They say war never changes. But it does, and often its for the worse. For millions of years, the planet Cybertron has endured a devastating civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons that has spilled across the galaxy, drowning it in blood.

Who were the good guys? Depends on who you ask.

Maybe both sides had their merits and their rightful causes once, but whatever those could have been were buried underneath a mountain of corpses.

But as far away as it seemed, there was a time before the war. That's where you came in...

********************************************************************************************

"Good Morning, Iacon!" your radio alarm boomed as the sun barely rose up from the horizon. "This is DJ Blaster coming at you from all wavelengths, serving up hit after hit! All you morning commuters better be getting your servos in gear if you wanna get to work on time! Another rally by the ever growing group known as Decepticons have taken up a protest march-"

You tune out the sound as you boot up from your recharge slab. Another day, another chapter in the most boring life on cybertron.

You get up off the slab and stretch your servos, the sunlight gleaming through the window of your cheap apartment. Well it's not that bad, you concede, at least you could afford windows.

After a quick breakfast of energon rations, you gear up for your job. You are a...

You are a loader grunt at a local spaceport. It's a tough job, but it pays well enough to get you by; again, you note the windows. Amazing what a little natural sunlight could do to brighten up this dump. Workplace safety on the other hand was another matter entirely, but hey, mortality rates are at an all time low this month; only 3 bots were crushed, burned and or otherwise rendered a gruesome death.

You take a look at yourself in front of the mirror as you check your specs. Your chassis was built heavy but expendable, able to sustain incredible weight, and your alt mode reflects this as a heavy load bearing vehicle.

With all systems green, you exit your apartment and walk down the dilapidated corridor of your complex. Your neighbors, blue-collared workers in some form or other, were slowly milling into the corridor, all set for another day of pointless drudgery much like yourself.

Once outside, you transform and head to work. It didn't take long for you to get caught up in a gridlock.

"Aw c'mon..." You grumble. Well, the radio did say there was that rally going on by the Decepticon movement. You check your GPS for alternative routes open to you, and you couldn't help but groan at your options. Both were equally long and time consuming, but at least you were assured you'd actually reach your destination by sometime today.

> Net slowing down, Alrighty then!
>>26956032

Shifting your gears, you eventually manage to break off from the highway via an exit ramp and go down back into the streets. It was still crowded, but at least the traffic was moving.

You came to a stop light, and as soon as you stopped, a lanky bot who was loitering by the sidewalk approached the row of vehicles, handing out data slates.

"We invite you to join the fight for liberty!" The bot said cheerily as he handed you a data slate.

> The time has come, brothers! No longer shall we sit by idly while the pigs of the senate thrive off the sweat of our backs! We invite you to join our fight for liberty and justice! Join the Decepticon Cause!

At the bottom was an insignia which was well famous now for belonging to the organization. You couldn't help but raise a mental eyebrow at that.

"I've noticed you work at the docks." The bot spoke up again after analyzing your alt mode. "This is your fight to! The Decepticons are of the working classYou should join us, brother, there's a meeting sometime later this week!"

"Uh, sure..." You say as a panel opened from your side and a telescopic arm took the slate. "Thanks."

"My pleasure, brother!" The lanky bot said, practically beaming. "You know, it's one thing to read, but we will be having a local chapter meeting in 2 days time, feel free to visit and hear for yourself!"

You say a quick thanks again as you analyze the slate, uploading the contents to your HUD. This stop was taking too long as traffic was being rerouted, so you might as well read as you go.

You were barely two paragraphs in when you heard a ruckus behind you.

"Get that stinking garbage away from me!" A voice boomed, followed by a frightened shriek. You look behind you just in time to see the data slates fall into a messy pile on the road as a hulking red bot punched out the lanky decepticon on his tailpipe just beside them. "You Decepticons are so preachy, but all you are are whiners and complainers! All you're doing is causing trouble for us folk who want to work what with your rallies and your protests! Just be settled with your lot in life!" The bot didn't look like no rich boy, but he definitely wasn't working class with his pristine paint job and sleek alt mode.

Something in you rustles at that. At the same time, the stoplight went to green. You know you can't be late again.

Screw it, you were going to be late regardless, you tell yourself mentally as you transform, turning around to look at the scene. As opposed to just running, the lanky bot was trying frantically to gather up the scattered slates, only for the red bot to kick it out of his hand, causing the smaller bot to stagger back.

"Hah! Look at you, right where you belong!" The red bot gloated.

"Hey, tough guy." You boom, walking up to them. "Leave him alone, I'm sure you got better things to do then bully the helpless."

"Or what?" The bot turned around with a look of disdain, which immediately turned to one of shock as he took in your size, a full couple of heads larger than he was. This shock however was in turn replaced by a self satisfied smirk. "Well, well, if it isn't average-joe-worker bot." he says. "Sticking your neck out for your kind."

Funny how this guy was still able to look down on you while being considerably shorter. "Who the hell do you think you are?"

"Who the-? Are you for real?" the bot says incredulously before laughing. Several other bots transformed from their alt modes and walked up beside him. You may have size, but now they had numbers. The lanky bot who was slowly trying to crawl away was suddenly seized by a pair of them. "Walk away, grunt, this doesn't concern you."

"What are you ding with him?" You ask as the lanky bot struggled helplessly against their grip. The other people around you slowly started to give you a wide berth.

"I said walk away."

For future rolls, I'm going to steal some ideas from other quest threads cough*pred quest*cough and rank them as easy(>5), medium (>10) and hard (>18), with some special rates in between depending on the scenario. 1's and 20's are crits as usual, with both cancelling each other out. Will take the best of first three, for now.

You crack your knuckles as you step up to them. The day you let a group of self-entitled thugs make you back down is the day you line up for self-termination. "No." you say casually as you offered him a challenging glare.

You got close enough that the red bot was forced to step back to look you in the eye. It was subtle, but he gulped nervously as he did so. "How dare you..." he snarled. He quickly looked over his shoulder at his posse. It seemed that every bot here had his doubts about going toe to toe with you. Your large servos could literally rip and tear their way through them should you decided to go for blood.

"Well?" you say expectantly. "I'm sure neither of us has all day."

"Go fuck yourself, grunt." he said defiantly.

You almost punched him for that, but before you could, you hear a siren blare and a couple of cops rolled up along beside you.

"You're obstructing traffic!" one of the cops said gruffly, eyeing the dataslates on the ground. "There a problem here?"

>>

"Just a simple misunderstanding, officer." you offer. "They were just leaving."

The red bot stepped up, but one of his companions laid a hand on his shoulder, stopping him. "Alright..." he said begrudgingly. "Sorry for the trouble, officer." he says, then turns to you. "See you around, grunt." The group released the lanky bot and transformed, speeding off.
"Punks." you mutter.

You felt a hand slap your shoulder. "Saw the whole thing. Nice job holding that temper in check, citizen." he said approvingly. "Thanks for saving me a lot of paperwork arresting you for assault so early in the morning."

"Just me? But didn't you see them harassing this guy?" You said, pointing to the lanky bot. "Why didn't you arrest him then?"

The cop had a sheepish look on his face. "Senator Validus' son is way above my paygrade to arrest for simple harassment."

Wow, you tell yourself. You just got singled out by a politician's son and it wasn't even noon.

The lanky bot was still picking up slates, and you were most definitely late.

Hopefully Primusr can add some type of reflective twist on the Decepticon/Autobot situation.
Was there ever a definitive winner of the Civil War or canon ending to the Transformer series in general? As far as I know, Megatron always gets revived, and the Autobots pull through on some bullshit like a time-traveling Prime or something.
>>
>>26956996
When the Ark crashed, I think the Decepticons "Wo." They controlled Cybertron. But yeah, then the Autobots kept winning and it kind of went back in forth for a long time.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the Decepticons won't be as retardedly evil in this quest.
>>
>>26956996
For G1, the Autobots eventually win -- this leads into Beast Wars, with a relative 'equality' between Maximals and Predacons, though many Preds act as if they're treated like second-class citizens and some (like Beast Megatron) have delusions of a Predacon Empire to rival the Decepticon Empire.
>>
>>26956996

Sorta. In the G1 timeline that leads into Beast Wars the Autobots win the war and the Decepticons basically are forced to assimilate into peaceful society and become the Predacons while the Autobots become the Maximals.

A few Deceticons like Ravage are even granted amnesty after the war and become Predacons.

Supposedly Optimus retired from being Prime and became an explorer of sorts. I think Megatron was killed though.

Simon Furman wrote a story that was never canonized where Optimus wandered Cybertron until passing through some dimensional rift into TF heaven and is greeted by Megatron who extends his hand to help Optimus up from his knees after falling from weakness.

Prime asks "Is this the end?" and Megatron responds, "It never ends." before the two walk off into eternity.

"Hey man, your function arrays alright?" You say as you bend down next to the lanky bot and help pick up his slates.

"Yes! Yes! Just fine!" he said in a panic, practically shaking in fear. "I- I've heard stories about other solicitors being shaken down or worse... I just never thought it'd happen to me..." He took a moment to calm himself before speaking again. "Thank you, friend. My name is Deadbolt."

"Seriously?" You couldn't help but ask, earning a chuckle from the bot.

"I was young, and now I can't seem to register a different name." he said sheepishly. "But enough about me, what's your name?"

Question; this is right when the Decepticons were first formed, right? For the sake of this Quest, did Megatron, or Megatronus, whichever he's going by at the moment, start it, or is he going to join up, and will things start getting more violent when he does?

Autobots and Decepticons still existed alongside the Maximals and Predacons, I think. Transformers canon is pretty fucked up anyways though with all the alternate dimensions and time travel going on, so if this goes to Beast Wars Era, we probably wouldn't have to change.

Right on the money with the timeline setting. The 'Cons are being rallied by not just Megatron but other charismatic bots as well who've had enough of the current situation on cybertron, and the worse they're doing are protest rallies and marches. I'd like to think that even at their worse in the later parts of the war that not every Decepticon was chaotic evil but still truly believed in the principles they started by. He scoffed as he took the dataslates you offered him and he stacked them up into a neat pile in his servo. "Are we not all the same under this shell of metal? Yet we're treated like second class citizens. There must be something more to life than this... "Decepticons." You say flatly. "Your group's been making waves these past few weeks."

"The movement has grown quite a lot since when I first started." He agreed. "It's just... amazing to part of something that's actually trying to make a difference."

"Level with me, what are you guys exactly? Straight from you, not what the news outlets are spouting."

Deadbolt smiles as if you've just offered him the key to Vector Sigma. You get the feeling that he just loves talking about the Decepticons. "The Decepticons started out as a labor movement, led by a simple energon miner, of all people." he began. "His name is Megatron, and he asked us to look around and see society for what it really was, to see the corruption that has grown fetid over the course of millions of years right in front of our optics. You can't say that you haven't noticed?"

"Corruption? Well yeah, the whole system is dirty."

"And you're not doing anything about it because?"

"I... Well..."

"It's alright, neither did I at first. But Megatron, he shared to us a vision, where each bot was just as good as the next, offered the same opportunities and granted the same freedoms." He said, and a small crowd started to gather. "Can you imagine how many scholars are languishing in the mines? Or how many artists are handed tools instead of brushes? I can enthrall you with grandiose words and lengthy speeches, but the bottom line is that we are fighting for the opportunities that the working class is so terribly denied! We are fighting against a pre-destiny that is not of our own choosing!"

He turned towards the growing crowd that gathered around him. "Is wanting freedom to live our lives the way we want to so wrong?"

(cont'd)
>>
>>26957612
The crowd started growing larger and larger; most of them were the people that had watched your little run-in with the senator's son and his lackeys. You can't help but shake your head at what you just started, barely five minutes in and Deadbolt's got everybody on the block, hook, line and sinker.

"Brothers and sisters, hear me out!" He said. "You are being deceived! By the system, by the senate, by the very drive that urges you to go on being settled with your lot in life!"

"The Decepticon cause is your cause! It is the will at back of your heads, struggling to claw it's way out into the sunlight!"

You couldn't help but smirk, who knew this timid little guy could ham it up. Forget that rally downtown, Deadbolt was starting his own over here on 31st street. What could possibly go wrong?

The move shocked him long enough that you slammed into him head on just as he was about to level his gun towards you. You hear the surprisingly satisfying whine of crumpling metal giving way into a sickening crunch as you tackle him into the building on the otherside of the road.

You transform, shaking the debris off of yourself as you looked at your handiwork. The other bot lay there, oil and transmission fluid pooling around him, his legs ending in stumps from where the impact had ripped them off. His gun was still gripped in his hand, otherwise lifeless.

"Oh Primus..." you say to yourself in horror, realizing what you had just done. Before you could say anything else, you hear Deadbolt scream behind you from the other side of the side walk.

Dive to the side.
See who's confronting us.
If it's more of Validus' son's friends, run.
If it's law enforcement, surrender and try to explain what's happened.

Dive to the side, and assess the situation. If it's law enforcement, we don't want to be MORE guilty... hopefully it's that Pax guy from the guards.

Isn't Orion Pax an archivist? He's just a glorified librarian.
>>
>>26958317
Maybe it's time travellers.
>>
>>26958331
Depends on the universe. Sometimes he's an Archivist, sometimes he's a guard, sometimes he's a labor bot. Only Primusr knows for sure here.
>>
Rolled 6

>>26958331
Depends. The version of Pax from IDW's timeline is a guardsman, so I guess we'll have to see which it is from the Questrunner.
>>
>>26958317
>>26958331
>>26958352

If we're keeping Optimus heroic, I'd imagine Pax is a kindly upper-class guy who means well but sometimes comes across as being a little ignorant/rude to the lower classes.
>>
>>26958432
Yeah; that's the good thing about Pax's representation in the IDW timeline. He's a guard who GETS that there's a class difference and tries to look beyond that and do the right thing at all times.

Maybe that energon you had this morning had something else cut into it, because you've never moved so nimbly in your entire life as you dodged to the side, taking cover behind the wall of the building that you had just crashed into. The barrage of gun fire just barely missing you by a few inches that you could feel the heat from the laser bolts just enough to warm you up.

"Idiot!" A voice said. "You could've hit Roadflare!"

"Don't think that'd do anything worse, Flamewar." Another voice replied. "I don't think his spark is still operational anymore."

You peek out of cover just in time to see two more bots armed with guns, Deadbolt kneeling between them with said guns pointed at his head.

"Hey big guy!" the one called Flamewar yelled. "I'd suggest you come on out so we can talk the terms of your defeat."

"Don't!" Deadbolt yelled, only to be swatted by the other bot.

"Quiet, you!" the bot yelled. "Listen up, you come out and the squirt gets off easy. Resist and well..."

Damn it, how did it end up like this. You're eyes drift towards the gun lying on the ground, but it's too much of a risk.

Time to take up arms for Deadbolt's sake.

Dive for the gun.
>>
>>26958467
Stall. "C'mon now guys, murder in cold blood in the middle of the streets. All these witnesses? You ain't going to do that. Let him go and we'll just forget all about this. Come pick up your friend. Get out of here before the police arrive. Even you can't avoid the heat on this one.
>>
Rolled 14

>>26958467
Surrender. Tell them to let Deadbolt go - if they kill a Decepticon preacher, they'll just start a massive riot that'd end with everyone dead.
>>
>>26958513
Then again anon, if he dies in front of all these people who were eating his shit up he will be made a martyr....
>>
Rolled 17

>>26958492
They aren't going to let either of you off easy. That's not their way. We're bigger and more resilient, we can likely survive a few shots. Deadbolt... he can't. Stall; the police are probably on the way.

"It was self-defense. There're tons of witnesses. Even you guys aren't going to be able to avoid some trouble on this one. And... won't you just be proving them right, if you do this?"

So to be perfectly clear you want us to come to a consensus and then roll afterwards?

I think to avoid confusion in the future it might be prudent to delcare which choice has won and then ask for rolls.

I.e. Choice A got the most votes. Roll for it.

Slag.

Slag, slag, slag!

How do you get from your morning commute to a shootout in broad daylight?

You try to push the question out of your head so you can think.

No way are they going to let Deadbolt just go after all of this. No matter whose son their friend is, there are too many witnesses, and they're not about to let one more scott-free, let alone the two of you.

Your eyes drift towards the gun once more. You've never killed anybody before, and the last thing on your mind when you left your apartment this morning was crushing another bot to death. But looks like more blood was bound to be spilled before this day was over.

You close your optics and psyche yourself up for what would come next.

(Cont'd)
>>
>inb4 we are the bot that causes the civil war because of this incident.

Fuck it
We're out
Leave Cybertron
Go into hiding on Junkion or Lithone
They'll never find us there
>>
>>26959053
Mad with guilt over causing an incident that triggered the great war, Overload flees Cybertron and takes on a life of a hermit trying to redeem himself by traveling and righting wrongs he feels he's caused.
>>
>>26958928

"Hey grunt, we haven't got all day!" Flamewar yelled. "The more you make me wait, the more my trigger finger gets itchy..."

You open your optics, mind made up as to what you would do next. Jumping out of cover, you reach for the gun and wrench it out of the dead bot's hand. You roll onto your back and raise the weapon, calibrating the targeting system haphazardly onto your HUD as you took aim. A split second as your finger was just about to pull the trigger, you feel a sharp pain in your shoulder as gun fire tore through your armor and into your shoulder joint, causing your arm to flail as you pulled the trigger.

The blast went wide and blew poor Deadbolt's head clean off of his shoulders. Just as you realized in horror exactly what you have done, gun fire slammed into you, blasting you like rainfall. You were tough, but your armor was designed for workplace hazards, not small arms fire.

The pain overcomes you, and you slump down to the ground as oil and transmission fluid ooze from your wounds.

You hear the muffled sounds of footsteps approach you.

"Hell, he's still alive... This bot is a beast."

"Heh, let's see how he takes a point blank shot to the face." the other voice replied. "His friend didn't seem to take that well."

"Wait... This is perfect... This is the fall guy the boss has been wanting."

"What? This grunt?"

"Yeah... Central, this is Flamewar, chaos incited, we got two tangos down and one friendly KIA, request extraction."

Just as you were about pass out, you get a glimpse of a winged insignia on Flamewar's knuckle plate.

Elite Guard.

Great thread OP, please archive it. Great writing, if a little slow. Enjoyed it a lot.

Nah man, this is good, it can't always go right for us, this is an interesting twist.

That was great OP. This is feeling nice and transformer-y. Can't wait to see what's going to happen to Overload.

No no, I was just really confused. Its all good, thats a cool saying.

Thanks for playing, this thread was an experiment and I'm glad it got over relatively well to warrant interest in continuation despite a few bumps here and there. This world will have grey all over the moral spectrum for both sides as well as traditional black and white.

With my schedule right now, I'm planning to run this on weekends, preferably Friday or Saturday, so just keep posted. Hopefully, my internet issues work out by then also. Will make a twitter account for alerts and post it on next thread, thanks for playing guys

So, on a scale of 1 to Ratings Week in G1, how much time travel with this quest have?
Also, are there female transformers or are you going with an all masculine cybertron?
