What's good? I'm Ember, kick-artist and part-time grappler, and this is what's good:

Nothing much, unfortunately. I've just transferred into the continent wide megacity - you know, *The* City - in search of my big sister, Ashley, who I thought was long gone. I'm running off a scholarship to a pretty serious place called White Wing Academy. Like everywhere else in the city, it's just as combat-mad as the rest of the city... so I fit right in, or I would, were I not apparently set on making an idiot out of myself. First getting slapped by my knockout roommate for not laying off flirting with her, then nearly committing social suicide by breaking the submission rule... so things are pretty shit for me right now.

Meilang catches up as I slink out into the courtyard, away from the glares of the students gathering for classes. Not surprising, since I'm still wearing her jacket for modesty. For a few moments, she just walks beside me, but then she takes my hand and drags me off the beaten path. "Come here." Since I've beaten her into the ground already and I'm more than willing to do it again, there's no real reason not to let her... she pulls me behind the school buildings, where the foliage runs free, through the bushes, and... to a small, burbling stream. She sits down on the grass and motions for me to do the same.

Sure. Why not.

"So? What the hell was that?" she asks me.

>None of your business is what.

>"Bad day, blew my top, was stupid."
I sum it up for her. Meilang rubs at the bridge of her nose. "Man I was just fucking with you when you stormed down the hall. Sorry. ... still, you're gonna have to do something to make up for it. Even if Storm is saying for people to lay off..."
"I got that." I tell her drily. Thinking of it, I hand her back her jacket, which she takes, but she lays it out on the grass and flops back on it, tucking her hands behind her head.
"Look, babe. I suggest you start with an apology. That goes a long way. On the other hand, if you want to blow some people up to get over it, I have a fun idea in mind."

not sure who was there at the end of the last thread so I'll just put this down here again.

We (or me and someone else at least) figured that MC has more than a few problems. The ones I remember off the top of my head are survivors-guilt from living through that crash with her family, and that's going to be an old scar that just got ripped open because her sister is actually alive.

An inferiority-complex with her sister, inferiority complexes actually can look like superiority complexes until you start digging.

Self-loathing that is most likely at the center of the inferiority-complex (also fits with the survivors-guilt).

Loneliness, she's been without her family for a very long time.

Harsh self-standards she makes herself live up to because of wanting to point of needing to live up to her sister's legend.

And feeling of impotence, the only clean fight we've actually won is that first one we fought. All the other's we either lost or just don't count (the gang fight wasn't our fight).

Also our roommate... I think we agreed she was being far to vague so the slap, while understandable, was unwarranted

And some also complained that only a minority voted for the conditional release from that hold we had her in last thread and the majority wanted to let her go. I didn't look myself that was just what some people were complaining about.

"Alright, here's what's going on. White Wing has a rival school, Blue Wing, and yes, it's a stupid name." she cuts me off even before I open my mouth. "They have this real bad habit of trying to fuck around with us, and Storm's been going on for a while about giving a little back. School's only a short trip from here; it would be trivial to barge in and wreak havoc for a bit. Wanna?"

Now that's an idea I can get behind. Having said that, there is still that stuff to deal with on the home front.

>"I'm in, but I want to scout around first. And change."
"Sure." Meilang stands up and dusts herself off. "Meet me by the gates when you're ready, okay?"

... it takes me a bit to work up the courage to go back into my room to change. The door's been unlocked, but when I go in, the lounge and all has been completely cleaned of Jean's presence. There is, however, a post-it note on her door: "FRIDGE". I take a look out of curiosity; there's a still-in-its-packaging off-the-shelf small chocolate cake with another post-it note on it. This one reads "Sorry I slapped you and called you a siscon. Stop flirting at me. -Jean", which pretty much makes it clear. I do still need to ask her why I woke up with her sitting on me, but that can wait until later.

Freshly-changed, I get moving asking around about Blue Wing. A lot of the students are pretty hostile at first, but when they get an explanation as to why I'm asking, they get pretty helpful - looks like old bad blood trumps new bad blood, or maybe Storm's pull really is that much. Turns out Blue Wing's setup is much the same as White Wing's, although their school is more open plan, set amongst a botanical garden not far from here. They have prefects, too, but the one to beat is Yang Long, who keeps on organizing the raids on White Wing. Taking her down should make things more peaceful around here. Apparently she's a spearfighter, but her grasp on her chi is pretty good, too.

If we are gonna deal with spearfighter, it is maybe good idea to have some form of shield or metal gauntlet to block the spear attack.

Fighting against arming fighter require greater skills while fighting unarmed.
>>
>>26956769
You know, we should see if it's possible to somehow pimp out our gloves or something with some plates.
Maybe begin carrying light armor under some baggy clothes, or throw in some hidden weapons.
>>
>>26956825
We should get some forearm armour. Gauntlets are our treasure and I'd rather keep the light.
>>
Aww, she gave us chocolate. Sure she's not gonna be our lover but… maybe we can still befriend her.
>>
>>26956611
Could we try finding something to protect ourselves against a blade? if not, LETS GO.
>>
>About those gloves...
... believe it or not, finding some forearm guards to go with them is actually easy. The school does have an armory - mostly for training purposes, but nobody complains when I rip off a couple of armguards. They aren't fancy and they don't fit perfectly, but they'll do for this fight. In theory I could take any of the weapons in here, but I'd be completely shit with them - I've never liked fighting with a weapon that wasn't improvised in hand; doesn't feel natural.

>Leg guards too. Not a problem.

Freshly equipped, I make my way out to speak to Meilang. She's lounging at the gate, noisily chewing gum, although she does at least offer me some - which I turn down. Gum is icky. I honestly don't know where I picked up that feeling from, but I've never been able to stand it. Maybe someone stuck gum in my hair as a kid. Who knows. Meilang whistles briefly at the new hardware. "Not bad."
"Chick in charge is a spearfighter; might be a good idea. The crowbar's cute but I'd prefer to be able to just straight up block her."
"It's actually a naginata -"
"And fuck you too Kneesy." I pat her shoulder in passing. "Let's go."

It's not a long trip, really, only forty minutes or so. The route meanders along the river, oddly-scenic when you frame it against the ultra-urban background, and we eventually come to a small shrine-looking thing set on a bridge over the river, just beyond the school gates. There's nobody guarding the gates themselves, but the little building is probably a guardhouse; Meilang stops me at the edge, so we just lean around the corner like Scooby and Shaggy. "There's usually two or three guys inside, and it's a sheer wall so we can't just take a dip in the river. What do you want to do?"

Suggestion: She's the bookish kind so perhaps alongside the apology we should write a detailed battle report to give her an idea of how well her soup worked? The only problem is time and Blaze's own intelligence I guess.

Remember, we ended up doing what she wanted us to do anyways: Get into a fight and use a lot of Chi. We owe her our victory.
>>26956928
Yea, let's see if we can't get through to her. Living there at her sufferance and just avoiding each other seems a shitty way to let this end.

I skulk over the roof - the gatehouse is pretty far away from the actual courtyard, so it doesn't look like too many students are in range - and slide off. The back door is unlocked, so I sneak in that way. The gatehouse, inside, is pretty standard - table and a couple of chairs - but both of its occupants, tall, burly guys obviously picked for their muscle rather than their skill, are facing away from me, one at the door, ready to defend it from entry, and the other peering out the window. He staggers straight back into Meilang, who eagerly wraps her arms around his waist, braces her legs, and arches her back like a bow, bringing him over her in a perfectly-executed german suplex. >Challenge her openly.

I give Meilang the nod, and we both step out, barring off the path to the gatehouse. Yang Long and her posse stop, as if sizing us up, and I take the opportunity to give the challenge.
"Turns out you guys screwed around with White Wing once too often. This time we're bringing the party to you."
"Is that so?" Long shifts, resting her weapon over her back. So it wasn't a spear. It's a glaive. Faulty information-giving motherfuckers... "Take the other one. The fiery one is mine." I give her another nod, and Meilang starts tracking sideways, helping to keep the goons out of the fight. Just me and the boss.

I give ground when she makes her first swing, ducking back into the gatehouse proper - and with a completely improper remark on my lips. "This way, cutie, I want you close to me." I can hear Meilang let out a vocalized eye-roll but I push that out of my mind, dancing back even further as Long follows me with a sharp thrust. She doesn't seem especially daunted by being in close quarters, although her stance is obviously restricted by the close walls - she really doesn't have room to swing her blade in here. That said, she doesn't seem too fazed by the compliment/taunt/whatever that was, either.

"You gonna use those lovely long legs or are you gonna stay over there?" This one, I don't have to feel bad about being flirty with. Long smiles faintly and advances. Just one step.
Then the glaive comes crashing down overhead. Slight miscalculation: the gatehouse is *narrow* enough to restrict her, but she can still slash overhand and stab just fine. I flinch sideways from the blow - she cuts the table clean in half - but in the next instead she takes another step, scrapes the blade against the stone floor and kicks up a slurry of sparks that flash into my eyes, dazzling me.

Shit.

>Move back further, just in case.
>Advance deeper in.
>Hold ground and block her next strike.
>>
>>26958929
Get in there and fuck her up.
Unless her chi power is altering the size of her glaive, in which case we're screwed.
>>
>>26958929
>>Move back further, just in case.
>>
>>26958929
We need to get close enough to see if she's any good at using her hands, overhand and stab aren't exactly great when we're punching her.
Can we turn on Dragon's breath and try for a OHKO strike to the stomach from here?
>>
>>26958929
>>Advance deeper in.

You do NOT move away from a polearm like that half blind.
>>
>>26959052
I assume this is somewhat common knowledge, but can one "feel" someone activating a Chi power?
>>
>>26959078
I assume that'd require a power of some sorts. Maybe we should ask Jean once we're good with her again.
>>
>>26959078
Yeah. Maybe most people can't, but Ember can.
>>
>>26959168
Hrm.
Well no one is voting with me, so we're advancing for now.
>>
>>26959209
We must go deeper.

>Advance deeper in.

I push in immediately, desperately blinking away the spots dancing in my eyes. This one turns out to be a good move - she must have attacked again, because the haft of the glaive thuds into my shoulder. It hurts, but it's not dangerous... yet. With my vision clearing, I find us face to face. Long is even smiling a little. "Oho... it seems like Storm sent someone with talent this time."
"And I'm a good fighter, too." I return, smirking faintly. Her smile almost reaches her eyes. Then she twists the glaive, so that the blade lies flat, and jerks backwards, threatening to take it straight along my neck -

>Twist away, then kick.
>Move with her and grapple her.
>>
>>26959379
Move with her and grapple her.
>>
>>26959379

>>Move with her and grapple her.

seems safest and smartest
>>

>Move with her and grapple her.

Keep on with infighting style, we can't let her take advantage of her long glaive.
>>
>Move with her and grapple her.

I step into the space she retreats from, stopping her from giving me a new smile, quickly circle my arms around her head to control it and I'm just in the middle of moving to bring my knee up into her ribs when she suddenly twists the glaive across the back of my neck - like she's yoking me - and does almost the exact same thing. Her bare knee smacks into my thigh and stuffs my shot, and then a moment later she's stepping in even closer to bring the other up like a piston, straight at my gut -

>Sway with it to minimize damage.
>Lose the grapple and block with both hands.
>Bullrush her backwards.
>>
>>26959539
>>Bullrush her backwards.
Down girl
>>
>>26959539
>>Bullrush her backwards.
C'mon baby
>>
>>26959539

>Bullrush her backwards.

Slam against her into the wall!
>>
>Bullrush her backwards.
I shove her hard and step with her all the way, making her overbalance - she'd fall over, but I shove her back through the open door, and the glaive locks in the doorframe and stops her from falling.

Which is fine, because it means I can turn all that momentum into a flying knee instead.

The doorframe turns to splinters as the glaive tears through it - I duck, fortunately, so the same doesn't happen to me - and Long hits the ground hard; her weapon clatters away on the cobblestones.
"You look good down there."
"Don't get used to it." Long is back on her feet almost instantly, and she rolls her shoulder, setting the tattoo coiling... the sensation hits me about two seconds too late to do anything about it; the sense of her chi, proud and fiery, welling up in her body. At an unspoken command, her glaive flies back to her hand, and she spins it once, retaking her stance - just for a moment, I'd swear a silver dragon coiled around her body and the glaive itself, letting out a soundless roar. Just for a moment. "Now... let's get serious!"

ROUND THREE: COMPLETE

Aww. Next thread when?
>>
>>26959782
So today was shorter than usual. I actually started fading hard about two hours ago and this is officially the cut-off point. I was intending to go for another four or five hours but there's no way I'll churn out quality at this pace, so I'll do what I did for the first two threads and run an immediate followup tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.

If you need the reminder, follow me on twitter at @CMidnight1; and I will see you gentlemen tomorrow for Round Three Upper!

I really enjoyed it this time around, felt like we're going the right way and felt like you were actually listening to us.

Can't wait for more!

IT'S FUCKING ON NOW.

Thanks for running.
Waiting Warmly For It To Return!

Turns out trying to be all detached doesn't suit me.

Speaking of, even though I'm going to go die now, I may as well use the itty bitty post count for something decent - if the thread's still here in the morning, I'll answer questions people leave (maybe).
>>
>>26959935
I actually have a few. Do you roll for success behind the screen for our actions?

Do we have any sort of invisible stats and are we stuck in a specific fight style or can we change it?

Also please keep up the flirty talk during the fighting, its fun and lovely.
>>
>>26959935
Detachment hinders more than it helps. Good for you, QM.
>>
>>26959935
How do you decide whether we should win the fight or get our teeth kicked in?
>>
>>26959935
Better too detached than too involved in 9 out of 10 cases.

Guess Midnight is sprawled in his chair right now, empty soda can still in hand.

This seems to have been the tenth.
