>Hopefully this one will last longer and sorry for yesterday the thing i had to take care of took longer then expected.

After being fooled by the phantom thief your group returned back to the dorm seeing that there is nothing you could do at this point you can only wait until a lead reveals itself.

You decided to take the time to improve your situation by again talking with others and establishing new contacts. First and foremost you talk to the one important being that will be an assist to you off and on the battlefield.

Your sword.

You know that’s crazy but considering it’s a talking sword and you’re in a world full of crazy shit you might as well tried to meld into it and what not better way than a weapon after all your reserve corp.

Highest Roll 18

You two got along great as you talk about a great variety of things such as comparing knives and swords, dirty jokes that will make a Tesenturian Regular blush, and few stories about each other though the sword doesn’t remember much. The things you do learn about this sword that happened to refer to itself in as a male to your surprise and that he is also six thousand years old making you the wielder of the oldest weapon in Tesenturain Reserve Corp history.
>>
You have mix feelings about that.

However you’ve taken upon yourself to carrying him as ‘extra’ training weight as you jog around campus and doing your regular training routine since it is good to talk to someone that is not staring at you like some strange animal when you do this.

Also he seems to take a liking to old Tesenturian Reserve Corp cadences and sings along with you as well much to nearby listeners’ dismay.

After which you’ve decided to try another hand at learning to read.

Highest Roll: 15

During your jogging you’ve began very familiar on the various routes, entrances, and exits in the campus

Highest Roll 13

Even after having some success in learning some basic words or signs looking at the random books in the library reading more than a few simple sentences are still beyond you.

Highest Roll Bonus 13+3 = 16

You’ve begun to slowly understand more words and symbols to the point you’ve even understanding paragraphs and as you’ve began to go beyond that you look up and smile as a guest of yours shows up just on time.

Highest Roll 18

Highest Roll Bonus: 16+1= 17

“Good afternoon Teach.” You said greeting a girl with a care-free attitude. “Ready for our lesson?”

Tabitha nodded and prepared several smaller and lighter books for you to start with. Ever since she saved your skin with Kirche you’ve met up with her again while playing and feeding with Slypheed. After mostly one-sided conversations you mentioned that you had some difficulty with reading the language here something in which Kirche happily volunteered and for obvious reasons you’ve declined. Surprisingly, Tabitha stepped up and decided to help you as thanks for feeding the blue dragon.
>>
>>26985673

With that your knowledge of the writing and language had improved considerably compared if you had done it alone but it was hampered by how little Tabatha talked and only said something to correct you.

After your writing lessons and a quick meal from Siesta and Marteau you went back to search for the scene of the crime for your missing shells.

Highest Roll: 10

Unfortunately you only found one during your three day search which concerns you seeing that it might still be of worth and you don’t like leaving material lying around in this foreign world but you find yourself out of luck.

As you turn around to give the courtyard another sweep you suddenly faced with a bouquet of flowers, a kneeling blond holding said flowers, and a blond girl crossing her arms with a frown while sighing.

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>26985682
"Is that Guiche? Still trying to apologize to your lady friend?" commence meddling.
>>
>>26985682
Sorry, I wasn't clear he's actually point the flowers at you
>>
>>26985848
Ooooooooh
In that case
"Guiche I'm flattered! I know we've had our differences but I didn't imagine you felt this way, but I am sorry I just don't swing that way."
>>
"Considering you're offering me flowers I'm guessing you're not here for a grudge, but please tell me you're not hitting on me, because that's seriously what it looks like."
>>
Actually, I think we should just go to him, accept the flowers and say:
"No homo, right?"
>>
>>26985848
Sorry, be right back going to eat
>>
We shouldn't pick a fight with him any more.
We've already asserted dominance, besides this kid here could be our ticket to making contacts from the other students.

If I remember correctly, her girlfriend makes perfume.
Perfume means high alcohol percentage, which means potential molotovs and potential fuel for possible engines of war and makeshift fuel for primitive combustion engines.
>>
>>26986528
Disregard the engines of war, I meant to delete that.
Just makeshift fuel for primitive engines.
>>
I'm not suggesting using perfume as a fuel or anything, but you need a still to make perfume, which means it could be used to make booze if we could persuade her to part with it or to rent it.
>>
>>26986763
we could probably ask Marteu if he can spare some potatoes. VODKA HOOOOOO
>>
"You know, where I come from, offering flowers to a man generally is a symbol of affection or love."
"This puts me in quite an akward situation here, because I'm not exactly sure what to make of this."
>>
>>26985673

"Considering you're offering me flowers I'm guessing you're not here for a grudge.” You said giving the kneeling man a flat stare trying to think of other things besides the obvious. “but please tell me you're not hitting on me, because that's seriously what it looks like."

He looks up his expression looking shock and appalled before doing another elaborate pose.

“What?, No!, I Guiche am a lover of beautiful women to fall to the other side will be a tragedy to the fairer sex.”

“Humph” The blond girl frowns before turning her head away from the side in disgust before sarcastically adding. “Indeed a big tragedy.”

“Mon-Mon.” He turns to look at the girl pleadingly. “Your still angry?”

“Of course I am!” She replied giving a glare. “I just came with you since you practically begged me so you can apologize to him.”

“Mon-Mon…” He pouts as he began to circle lines in the dirt in obvious depression as the girl known as ‘Mon-Mon’ sighs before looking at you.

“Listen, I know what he did was stupid and deserved the beating despite losing to a commoner but he seems too reflected on this and wants to apologize.”

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>26987885

"I must say Guiche I am surprised. A part of me expected this to turn into a grude that would only end in blood. I thought most nobles were like Louise who couldn't bow their head even if you broke their neck. I accept your apology.
>>
>>26987885
Well I'm not one to hold grudges and their was no harm done so I can forgive him this once
>>
>>26987885
"You know, it's tradition that guys get a drink after a fight as a sign of peace."
"...and it so happens that I have a full skin of wine right here, enough for the three of us, so are we gonna go find some mugs or what?"

"I must say Guiche I am surprised. A part of me expected this to turn into a grudge that would only end in blood.” “ You said honestly surprised at the noble’s humility. “I thought most nobles were like Miss Valliere who couldn't bow their head even if you broke their neck. I accept your apology.”

He stands up and does an elaborate pose while flicking his hair. “Well I’m glad and of course don’t compare us to the ze-“

Your stare silences him

“That girl.” He finishes off. “A noble must know to recognize his weaknesses and improve on them.”

“What he’s trying to say he has been getting nightmares of you mounting him and using that knife of yours to slit his throat.” Mon-Mon translate through the flowery language. “So he’s apologizing as a way to face his fears.”

“Mon-Mon!” Guiche cried his face flushed in embarrassment and slight fear of what you were thinking.

“Well that’s what you told me.” She explains to the poor blond. “Better to say it now then later.”
Well that will explain a lot but at least he showed up and apologized so that’s has to be worth something at the very least it seems he won’t pull this stunt again.

You gave a minor shrug. Well I'm not one to hold grudges and their was no harm done so I can forgive him this once.”

Guiche sighed in relief and Mon-Mon gave a look that said ‘I told you so.’

"Hey Guiche have you seen any of these brass tubes laying about? I lost three of them the night of the robbery, and I've only found one so far." You explained to them in which Guiche eyes light up.

“The night of the robbery? You mean the rumors are true!” He said a bit excited with even the blond girl looking shocked.

“What rumors.” You said a little off-put about being the center to those.

“In the night of the robbery when the Crumbling Dirt came to the main tower rumors said you fought her off.” Mon-Mon explained not fully believing it while Guiche looked like half believed it.

“Well let’s find the tubes first before we continue.” You offer a small headache coming on but first things first.

They nod and begin the search.

“Now can you tell us what happened?

“I can tell you the details I know.” You responded looking at the two. “I don’t know what happened after my involvement so for more information on that you better ask the staff.”

They nod understanding and you take a swig of your wineskin.

"It’s probably what you can imagine, in the middle of the night, an Earth mage came with a large siege engine in form of a golem, busted open a room and got something. Hearing the noise, I came in; spot her before she spotted me, wounded the thief, and dodge the bombardment of golem arms. Then the thief ran and we started a search party but the trail was already several hours late and buried. I don't know what was stolen and I didn't get a clear view of the thief. That is all I know." You explained calmly to them as you took another swig.

They just look at you their eyes widen.

You offer them your wineskin.

“Want some?” You asked a bit confused thinking that after them searching for your casing their eyeing your drink and briefly thinking of the age to drink in this world.

Then you shrug this wine isn’t that strong anyway so they might be alright…probably.

“How did you wound the crumbling dirt?” The girl called Mon-Mon said surprised. “Beating Guiche is one thing but fighting and wounding the phantom thief!”

“Did you use the same trick on me?” Guiche asked as he eyed your rifle, knife, and stab. “Got in close and stabbed him then what was those casing?”

>What do you say or do?
>>

I used my rifle, it's a technology from my land the casings are containers of power, the rifle releases that power towards where I point it.
>>
>>26993561
"If I got in close don't you think that I would have gotten a clear view of the thief? I didn't use the same trick on her that I used on you.

You are partially right though, I did hit her with what was in the casing. Think of it a like a bow, though the casing holds the power instead of me pulling a string and the projectiles are small pieces of lead that go faster than sound."
>>
>>26993561
"Alright you two first off please don't talk about this with anyone else. It's not that it's a secret or nothing I'd just rather not talk about it. The country where I come from, Tesenturia lacks one thing in particular from Tristain. Mages. We have none. So any any and all advancements that have been made have been without magic, through hard labor and intense study." *Holds up an empty cartridge.* This contains a substance made from a combination of elements, that when struck explode. The force of which sends a small piece of lead towards an enemy. Think of something like an arrowhead, just the head. Flying faster than you can blink. If you've heard of something called a musket it's similar to that."

>>
>>26993561

“First of all, if I got in close don't you think that I would have gotten a clear view of the thief?” You pointed out to the blond as his head droops a bit while Mon-Mon looks at you curious.

“So that doesn’t answer my question how did you do it?” She asks while folding her arms not buying the story. “Again, Guiche I can imagine but I heard Forquet was a triangle mage no matter what tricks you had a commoner shouldn’t be able to bridge such a gap.”

You sighed taking another swig of wineskin, maybe next time you should ask Marteau for a stronger brew next time as you stare at both of them considering that you haven’t really told Half-pint about this and Colbert figured this out.

You decided to explain.

"Alright you two first off please don't talk about this with anyone else. It's not that it's a secret or nothing I'd just rather not talk about it. The country where I come from, Tesenturia lacks one thing in particular from Tristain. Mages. We have none. So any and all advancements that have been made have been without magic, through hard labor and intense study."

Not to mention looting, lots and lots of looting.

One of the main reasons the Reserve Corp was invented was because at the beginning there was only enough guns for the regular army and the rest had to improvise which ended up stealing from the regular or just the supply depots the enemy tries to establish when they build up for an advance.

Afterwards, it just became tradition and what’s not broken don’t fix it.

Before your thoughts drift more into your country’s history you look back at the two and they just stare at you.

Hard.

“A country with no mages?” Mon-Mon says looking shocked before disregarding you entirely. “Humph, Now I know your lying beside I never heard of Tesenturia before in my life.”
>>
>>26994959

“Maybe it’s a country in the far east where the elves live.” Guiche tries to support your claim with some half-baked theory. “We don’t know anything in the Elven territories so maybe a country like that does exist.”

He looks at you with a confused look. “However without mages, I find that hard to believe.”

You sighed thinking you might as well move on as you hold up the metal cartridge to them.

“This is the culmination of my country’s work this contains a substance made from a combination of elements, that when struck explode. The force of which sends a small piece of lead towards an enemy. Think of something like an arrowhead, just the head. Flying faster than you can blink. If you've heard of something called a musket it's similar to that."

“This sounds like something from Professor Colbert class.” Mon-Mon mutters clearly not buying it as with the rest of your story but Guiche only scrunches up his brow in thought something you thought impossible considering he prefers his poses.

“A musket.” He repeated. “I remember my father and brothers discussing about such a rumor that the princess was creating a new corp using such a weapon.”

>What do you say and do?
>>
>>26994992
"Really? Do you recall anything else about this corp?

It sounds like something I'd be interested in."
>>
>>26994992
"Well be warned. If muskets have arrived then you had best work on your reactions, cause it may take a mage years to learn their craft, but any peasant with a week of training can learn to use and service a gun. But do tell me more about this musket corps."

>>26994992

because not warning them about the impending social changes is a better idea.
>>
>>26995287
We'll also need charcoal.

Making gunpowder isn't quite that easy, it's not like we can make good quantities of good powder in our back yard, there's a number of manufacturing steps, milling it is difficult and requires specialized equipment, you have to get a good press of some sort, getting the grain sizes right and consistent is difficult. We'll have to work with them for that, and some earth mages and water mages will make it a lot easier as the water mages can remove moisture for us and the earth mages make pressing and milling it easier.

“Can you tell me more about this corp?” You asked curious considering that this may be the only ‘normal’ thing you have come across since coming here.

Seeing kids that can float and swing spells?

Shatters your notions of reality.

Seeing men and women shooting balls of lead at each other?

Just another Monday.

“Well they are all quiet about it and not to mention it may not even get off the ground if it’s even true?” He sighs actually disappointed that such a corp wouldn’t exist. “From what I heard it will be an all-women unit.”

Ah, so that’s why.

“Guiche…” Mon-Mon muttered causing the blond to straighten his posture in fear.

>>
>>26996386
"Guiche, if you can get a musket of your own, I can offer some training with it, in return, I might just feel confident you are able to help in the investigation for the thief, as far as I know she is around here. Same goes for you Miss.

“Hey Gramont.”

“Call me Guiche.”

“Okay, Guiche.” You corrected. “If you can get your hands on a musket, I’ll teach you how they work.”

Though to be honest other than having the business end of one being pointed at your direction by your superior officer but your reserve corp, you’ll figure it out.

“Well I don’t think I can…” He mutters. “Muskets aren’t mass produced in Tristain and even if we did that all women unit will probably have monopoly of them.”

He later strikes another elaborate pose and declares. “Besides with my skills and talents I wouldn’t need to use such a weapon.”

You gave him a flat stare and then a shrug as you turn to head back to the girl’s dorm while leaving Guiche a passing comment.

"Don't worry about me creeping into your room at night and slitting your throat. If I do you'll never know." You said while walking off as you took a swig of your wineskin.

“Hey Derflinger” You muttered to the sword strapped across your back.

“Yeah.”

“Is Guiche wetting himself?”

“Sure is.”

You both laugh the rest of the day.

The next day you and the half-pint were asked to meet with the head master in his office. Once arriving you see Colbert, Kirche, and Tabitha already waiting. In addition you see an old bearded man in the center and a bookish green haired woman in the corner sorting out documents.

"Sir I would assume you wished for an account of the incident involving Fouquet and the theft of an item from the school sir!"

His eyes widen in surprised before giving a small muffled sound which you assume is laughter before motioning you be at ease. “Oh, don’t worry about it. Professor Colbert has told me all about it and a bit about you yourself so please relax.”

You do so a bit wearily again not liking about being talked about in this foreign land but considering it is Colbert who informed him of your existence it may not be a bad thing.

“Quite a stiff individual…” He rubbed his beard in contemplation. “Well let’s get down to business, I have heard of all of you being involved in fending off the Thief the other day.”

Kirche and Half-Pint nodded while Tabitha acted indifferent as she turned a page on a book she was reading.

“However as you also know that thief has stolen something from the treasury and it is a dangerous artifact.” He says in tone now stern. “Now I have heard reports from local villagers that they have seen a suspicious crudely made cabin in the forest.”

He sighs as he looks up at you and Half-Pint. “While I may be hesitant on asking you, Miss Valliere but I will need to borrow your familiar to see if the reports are true.”

"I'm not going to obey orders from a person who doesn't think I'm worthy of eating from the same table."

We shouldn't instantly agree, especially not for free.
If we agree, we are just a mindless pawn to be used at his leisure.

We need to put a price on our service, preferably some money and room next to Louise.
Also, we need to ask if they've got a picture of what the artifact looks like.
>>
>>27008864
"Can you clarify more about this ...cabin? What makes it so suspicious? Also, how far is this village, a day's ride out or a week? What other leads are there for us to pursue? This seem iffy a best so I prefer not to put all my hopes on just this lead".
>>
>>27008864
If Louise jumps at the chance to prove herself, smack her at the back of her head and tell her to think it through.
>>
>>27009584
The problem is that it may be a bit early to try haggling. You need to show what you can do before haggling. People won't bet on an unknown commodity. We can ask for something better when we finish the mission, as a reward.
>>
>>27008864
"What can you tell me about the artifact?

Do you have any more information on the cabin? Its size, distance from here? Are there any other leads?

Not to be rude, but what am I getting out of heading into a likely ambush?

A suspicious, crudely made cabin, if they didn't want to be found wouldn't they have made a less suspicious cabin, or used Earth magic to create a dwelling underground?"
>>
>>27008864
"If I am to go, I request Louise come with. I am her familiar after all."

I thought we were trying to bring her self confidence up? She should come with us. Keep her a distance, but still. Show her what her familiar can do and give her something to be prideful about.

I like this one
Also, if Louise starts saying that we should be glad to serve or something, just tell her that "It's my life, not yours."
>>
>>27009914
Yeah, I want to help Louise and the others, but we're not gonna take undeserved shit from anyone.
>>
>>27009851
We're going against a mage who almost killed us in and we're going to a battlefield of her choosing and you want to bring her along so she can feel important?

We're going to be in enough trouble as it is without having to babysit her.
>>
>>27009873
>>27009910
Mine is reverse, asking more information (who to bring, where or how far, more about village and cabin, when are we leaving, how are we getting there and what contingencies are we implementing, etc) then deciding whether to accept or not. Especially since we have not ask what we are being compensated for putting out lives on the line for a "dangerous artifact" for all we know is more dangerous than a golem throwing arms weighing in tons.
>>
Lets definitely ask for more info. Then ask Louise permission to go.
>>
>>27010135
This sounds very cunning, I like it.
Give them the image of what civilians like to see soldiers as and when all the beans are spilled, drop the quise and reveal that you are aware of just how little glory actually amounts to.
>>
Wait a minute
Considering this is a famous criminal, wouldn't there be a bounty on her head?
>>
>>27009873
....So is there a consensus?

I see a something of one but what order do you want?
>>
>>27010890
More Questions (who what where why when +bounty) then decide yes or no.
>>
>>27010890
I'll agree with >>27010964
We should ask more questions about the task and then agree
>>
>>27011538
But while I agree to asking about what we are getting into trying to bargain for better treatment right off the bat to people who and feeding and sheltering us for free doesn't seem like the best of ideas. Also how much c4 do you think we would need to disable the golem? I'm thinking something like saving private ryan, a piece of plastic explosive on a fuse, in a sock covered in grease, lard, or sap, then tossed at the foe.
>>
>>27012352
Sure they shelter and feed us, but a student of their's practically kidnapped you from your "family" who needs you. It's not like we spawn with a fake history....right?

And its probably better to shoot the caster, because how hard is it to reform a DIRT golem? And doesn't using sticky explosives require preparation, timing and getting very close, and a host of other difficult variables?
>>
>>27012758
Because it was done with malicious intent. At least we're not getting whipped and beaten. I'm all for asking for better treatment, just not demanding it like we are entitled to it.

That is assuming the mage is dumb enough to put themselves in the open when they know we can hurt them from range. And preparing the explosive ahead of time is the point. The timing is a non issue with a long enough fues, as well as the fact that it's a target larger than a barn.

That's not worth marching into an ambush laid out by a mage who almost killed us once.

If they think they can command you to do such hazardous work for no pay, they should think again.
Especially considering this is probably a ploy to figure out our true capabilities, seeing that we've pretty damn successfully kept them fearing the unknown so far.

Only way he'd do it for free is if Tabitha and Kirche call in that favour for saving your life.

“Before I accept, I will need all information available on hand.” You stated in which in which the old headmaster nodded in consent as his assistant gave you a small folder worth of documents. Unfortunately there isn’t enough information to barely call it a lead in which that the cabin is in the middle of a small clearing in the forest. The cabin itself was discovered from a few travelling villagers and was reported and handled by the Osmond assistant, Ms. Longueville. Also judging by the accounts it doesn’t seem too far from the campus itself perhaps a few hours at most by horse.
This is too convenient either that this so called phantom thief is a complete amateur or is baiting us into a trap.

‘It’s most likely a trap but…” You idly thought before looking at the Headmaster remembering the object stolen. “Also what is this ‘dangerous object’?”

The headmaster leans back on his chair and gives a deep sigh as if recalling a memory from long ago. “Well it is an item of personnel nostalgia for him but the staff of destruction is capable of destroying a dragon in one blow.”

The people presence here were surprised at the claim while you were wondering why a weapon is even at a school of all places.

You pinch the bridge of your nose thinking on several ways this could go wrong but considering this is your only lead you barely have any choice if you wish to even pursue this thief.

“Is this a solo mission or will there are others?” You asked in which Osmond smiles back and nods in understanding.

“Ah, don’t worry, we are gathering the teachers and asking for volunteers as we speak so they can assist you.”

Well that’s a relief.

“Um Headmaster Osmond, all of them refused.” Miss. Longuville said causing Osmond to stand up in shock.

“What happened?”
>>
>>27027384

“Is seems all of them are frightened by the Phantom Thief or had some other plans or responsibilities that they need to attend to.” She replied while adjusting her glasses.

“I’m sorry.” The Headmaster sighed as he turned to you. “It seems that our instructors aren’t as noble as they seem despite their status, if you don’t want…”

“I’ll do it.” The Half-Pint voice suddenly cuts the headmaster off as she raises her wand up. “I, Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere will take my familiar and captured Forquet!.”

Everyone looks at her like she just grew a second head.

‘Great, just great.’ You sighed as you pinch the bridge of your nose before looking up to the headmaster. "Well she's going to be doing this. There's no way to talk her out of it. You'd have better luck teaching a rock how to fly.”

You hear Kirche stifled a laugh and Half-pint blushes in embarrassment and then realized they can levitate and kind of fly and stuff. For Half-Pint and her explosions she could have very well blown herself up trying to do so.

Also she may not like this.

“However I will ask for proper compensation for this as I am risking my neck going into what is obviously a life threatening situation. Meaning an equal share of whatever bounty is on the thief's head, as well as some better sleeping arrangements. Hay and a bedroll are better than dirt but I'm not a dog, and refuse to be treated as such.” You stated flatly causing the half-pint to stare at you.

“Yuri!” She snarls before you stare at her ensuring her silence.

“I’m grateful for you and the help’s generosity
however I will not be willing to risk my life that is not for my home without being compensated.” You said flatly and added. “I’m not a noble I don’t fight for glory or honor.”

She stares angrily and you meet that stare head on letting it go through you.

Until you feel a soft sensation wrapped around your arm.

“How interesting.” Kirche said sensually. “To strike out on your own, bounty hunting, how exciting count me in.”

“What!”
>>
“What!”

“I won’t be outdone by a Valliere.” She says sticking her tongue at the half-pint.

You take this moment of bickering to dislodge yourself from the buxom red-head to face the Headmaster and asked “Dead or Alive?”

He looks taken aback by it for a moment before shaking his head. “Alive, the thief will have a proper trial and sentencing.”

He also takes a moment to rub his beard before adding. “While you can happily take your share of the bounty but I cannot put you in the boys dorm since you are not a student but if you do return it I’ll try to find something.”

*Salute and exit the room.*

Now then time to hunt down some extra supplies. Burlap, charcoal, and it would probably be prudent to prepare a couple of 1/4 brick charges on a 5-8 second fuse to help deal with the golem.

Burlap to wrap our gun, as well as some strips to mold the c4 around (to throw it like a sling) and charcoal for a bit of face paint.

All of these should be easy to procure from the kitchens. Burlap from old potato and vegetable sacks, and charcoal from the kitchen ovens.

While we're on this mission I will insist on listening to me and doing what I say if you want it to succeed.

We set out in an hour, move out."

Time to go full Operator. Face paint, prepare weapons and explosives for usage, find enough burlap and the like to prepare camouflage for the Kirche's Salamader and Tabitha's Dragon. It's almost like we're home again.

“Good enough, I’ll hold you to that Headmaster.” You nod before you look at Tabitha and asked. “Tabitha, I rarely see you and Kirche outside of each other's presence. Does this mean you'll be coming as well?”

She nodded her eyes never leaving her book. Well good enough for you.

“Everyone who is coming with get sturdy clothing that you don't mind dragging through the mud and dirt, preferably brown or dark green. All of you have very noticeable hair, wear hoods. While we're on this mission I will insist on listening to me and doing what I say if you want it to succeed. We set out in an hour, move out." You explained and ordered before leaving to get your things together.

You begin to check your demo-kit to prepare your C4 in which you prepare the portions and the wiring to make 10, 1 pound blocks of c4. While finding and preparing burlap for your rifle on such short notice proved to be a hassle you did however find some charcoal dust in the kitchen and wrapped your face with it.

When the time came for you to meet up, you see all of them still wearing their uniforms though they are wearing cloaked hoods. However you see Miss Longueville riding driver on a cart confusion written on her face.

However Half-pint voiced her thoughts voice.

“What happened to your face?”

"Same thing that'll happen to the rest of you. Charcoal dust.

Oh, forgot to add.

After we get the girl's camo squared away I have a few questions for Longueville so sit by her. This whole situation reeks of an inside source of information.

Ask her who knew about the Staff of Destruction. Who would know where it was kept. Where she got the information about the cabin. Ask why she's coming with.

See if she's favoring a certain arm over another.

"Same thing that'll happen to the rest of you.” You said with a smile as you grabbed some extra you stored and slapped it across the half-pint’s face.

“What is this?” She shrieked as she attempted to wipe it off but you stopped her. “What are you doing, I need to take this off.”

“It’s charcoal dust.” You explained. "It's a technique we use back home. Helps you blend in with the world around you.”

“How does that even work?”

“If you haven't noticed dirt, trees, and nature in general isn't the color of flesh. Sunlight also reflects off of skin, especially when wet or sweaty. Humans are good at recognizing faces, even from distances.” You continued to explain. “I for one would rather not get spotted if the Thief still shows up.’

She stays silent pouting before nodding as you finished caking her face and any piece of exposed skin before moving on to Tabitha, Kirche (who you forced to apply it on herself in certain area), and Miss Longueville. Once applying everyone with the charcoal dust you load yourselves onto the cart and begin to move.

During the trip you began to notice Kirche staring at you as she inches closer to you. Tabitha staring at her closed book, Half-Pint glaring angrily at you, and Miss Longueville peeking at you with the corner of her eye.

Sit close to her while talking to her, to her left if possible. I'm suspicious as hell, a pencil pusher coming along with us, she knew everything that was needed to be known to get the Staff of Destruction, even where it was kept, she is in a perfect position to pass on false information and lead pursuers into a trap with it. Every paranoid bone in my body is itching. Why in the hell would a secretary come along?

"So, Miss Longueville, I don't think we've been formally introduced, I'm Yuri Ivanov. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? I like to be prepared, it's kept me alive so far.

About this Staff of Destruction, do you know anything more about it?

Do you know who outside of yourself and the Headmaster knew about it and where it was kept?

Could you tell me more about the people who told you about the cabin? Travelling villagers was it?

Are you a Mage or a commoner like me?

Why exactly did you decide to come with us? All the teachers had some excuse, why did you come along? It does seem a bit odd that a secretary would come along on a such a dangerous mission."

If at any point she seems worried, scared, edgy, suspicious, or off balance, throw a friendly arm around her and clap her reassuringly and firmly on the right shoulder while saying "Don't worry too much, this is the sort of thing I do for a living. You'll be fine." See if she winces.

You look at the green haired secretary briefly making eye-contact before she quickly broke away finding that strange or rather why did she come when all the other teachers backed off. Feeling a bit suspicious you’ve decided to move Kirche out of the way and sit at the passenger next to her.

"So, Miss Longueville, I don't think we've been formally introduced, I'm Yuri Ivanov.” You smiled at her which she returns in kind and you both exchange pleasantries. “Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? I like to be prepared; it's kept me alive so far.”

She shakes her head. “I don’t mind but I don’t think I’ll be of much help.”

“Then do you about this Staff of Destruction, do you know anything more about it?” You asked in which she shakes her head. “Or anyone outside you or the headmaster could have known where he kept it.”

“Sorry, I never heard about it before now.” She frowns as she shakes her head “Also the Headmaster kept it in the treasury so maybe the Thief took it thinking it was valuable?”
“Could you tell me more about the people who told you about the cabin? Travelling villagers was it?”

“Ah, yes.” She said looking down slightly flustered while whispering. “I-I used to work at a bar and some old friends there they give me rumors and information that passes by that was something a friend told me.”

“I see…” You said flatly. “Wait. Aren’t you a mage?”

She nods. “Yeah but things happened…I rather not talk about it.”

You nodded in consent as you changed the question. “Then why exactly did you decide to come with us? All the teachers had some excuse, why did you come along? It does seem a bit odd that a secretary would come along on a dangerous mission."

“It wasn’t that I had a choice.” She replied her eyes tearing up. “The Headmaster told me to guide you to the clearing since the staff didn’t even want to that.”

You sighed as you patted her on the back. “Sorry about that…”

We'll walk the rest of the way."

She gives you a smile as you hopped to the back of the cart and see a fuming half-pint.

“Alright, let it rip.” You deadpan waiting for the half-pint to vent.

“You, why did you ask for a bounty aren’t you a soldier not some sellsword.” She said still glaring. “If it’s about the hay, I get that but what of honor and pride don’t you have that as a soldier?”

"Honor? Pride? Louise I respect that as a noble you have traditions and an image to uphold. Hell I knew men who fought and proclaimed their honor and pride daily. Their honor and pride lead them straight into the heart of battle, but not out. My becoming a soldier wasn't for honor or pride. It was out of necessity. A need to eat, a need for money, and a need to survive. And oddly enough you had the highest chances of survival being a soldier rather than being a civilian.
Besides I can't keep on asking you to pay for everything that I may need, and if you haven't noticed I don't exactly have the skill set required to make my way in this world.

"I am a soldier, a soldier of Tesenturia. I am not a soldier of Tristain.

I fought, bled, and killed since I was younger than you are now for the freedom and security of my homeland. I have seen muddy fields stained red with blood and covered in the bodies of the dead and dying. And those who died first were those who sought honorable battles. I wake up with nightmares of the things I've seen and done, and some part of me misses it, because nothing makes you feel more alive than not dying. There is no honor or glory in war.

But I never said that I did not take pride in what I did. I never fought for honor or glory, but I am proud that I fought for freedom no matter how much hell I went through. I am proud that I was part of liberating and stabilizing my country.

But why would I fight on principle for Tristain? This is not my homeland. You still have kings and queens who rule over others. You nobles consider yourselves better than commoners due to an accident of birth. Nobles can do what they wish and commoners can do nothing to stop them. The day I came here markings were put upon my hand and a girl told me that she owned me and decided to treat me like a dog.

So yes, if I am to risk my life for Tristain, to possibly kill for Tristain, then I expect compensation."

It started out with just a chuckle but soon you couldn’t help but burst in laughter much to the surprise, confusion, and a bit disturbed by how you reacted. Once you calm yourself down you look at the Half-pint with a small smile.

"Honor? Pride? Half-Pint, I respect that as a noble you have traditions and an image to uphold.” You said seeing her side of the story before slapping your knee. “Hell I knew men who fought and proclaimed their honor and pride daily. Their honor and pride lead them straight into the heart of battle!”

The faces of several people go through your mind, those sons of bitches who will rush into battle not out of fear but with valor and courage to raise their gun high and charge the frontlines leading the way their figure almost radiating light and hope.

“But not out.” You stop smiling as you remember them being cut down with gunfire their bodies being trampled by our own feet, you even remember on one occasion you’ve seen your superior use one of the corpses as a shield to get close enough to stab the enemy with her bayonet.

You later recall her saying that was his ‘punishment’ for disobeying orders and being a ‘hero’. It was also a rare moment you’ve seen Maya actually shaken up by the aftermath that you and a medic friend who were not much better off had to escort each other away from the front for a couple of days before being tossed back into the grinder.
>>
That was one of the darker moments in your military career.

“My becoming a soldier wasn't for honor or pride. It was out of necessity. A need to eat, a need for money, and a need to survive. And oddly enough you had the highest chances of survival being a soldier rather than being a civilian.”

While you are now proud of your Corp and to some extent your service overall you didn’t have much of a choice considering that at fifteen you must take some military training and service as per Tesenturain law. So you placed your bets into a Corp that you think will keep you alive which ended up being the Reserve Infantry Corp.
You’re proud of being a soldier of Tesenturia since it helped you grow.

You love your Corp and the family that came with it in which always had your back.

You love your country since you know no other and cannot imagine growing up anywhere else without changing something makes you who you are.

However the baser needs sometimes takes precedence before anything else especially when you are under fire expecting to die at any moment and that is a sad truth.

You gave a shrug.

“Besides I can't keep on asking you to pay for everything that I may need, and if you haven't noticed I don't exactly have the skill set required to make my way in this world.”

Your job as a combat engineer was to make things go boom, stop things from going boom, building and fixing shit. You vaguely remember that you had a reason for picking this occupation as a soldier for a dream that does not include warfare.

It’s something that is not important now.

It’s not important in a country, in a world that is not your own.

It is not important in which you have to rely on a little pink haired girl generosity to survive.

Also….
>>
“It was also about sending a message to the headmaster that I'm not a lapdog who barks on command.” You smirked while you are a soldier, even more so a NCO who just a little over a week ago your crazy ass best friend had the chance to order you due to having a higher rank then you. At least it was orders to help better the situation, to help your country, to support your Corp, to help keep your friends alive. You won’t be ordered around by some old man, some pretentious blond, or some pink haired half-pint without reason or benefit.

At least until you can get home.

Highest Roll: 16+4=20

Everyone was silent by your explanation even Half-pint who was fuming before only gave you a blank look not knowing what to think.

Only Derflinger had something for the rest of the trip.

“You are a very interesting guy aren’t you.”

I'll start writing soon but do you guys have any suggestions on how you want to see the story go.

I won't promise to add it but it might give me some ideas or at least insight on where to go from the first book
>>
>>27062469
There's a few approaches:
- Finding back to our homeworld
- Changing the world that we are currently in
- Settling down
- Marriage and PTSD
- Going out in a blaze of glory with superor Russian weaponry and Gandalfr powers to make us a legend

It depends on what everyone agrees on.
I would like to slowly transform the setting, but that might be too hard for you to write.
Imo it would be best for us to have small-scale production capabilities and playing some kind of Batman-like familiar. I want us to become known throughout the land as the one-man army.
>>
>>27062469
Well the question is where do you want it to go? It's your quest, if you want to just stick to the original with small differences based on character that's your choice, I would hope to have the plot go in a difference direction. Based on out actions, so that we are not just grinding the plot rails where our actions don't have any massive impact that deviates from the already established plot. I mean I think that certain events SHOULD happen, like those that our presence has nothing to do with, such as the Albion war, however as the QM it's up to you. (ill write more later but I gotta start my commute)
>>
>>27062469.
I'd want to see what happens if Yuri tries to use magic wand or magic in general.
I don't really know if there's a test for it or something if you have the capacity to learn magic.

What I'd like to see is that we eventually become an emperor like the world has never seen, bringing unprecedented prosperity to it's citizens.
>>
>>27062921
The problem is that becoming an emperor and whatnot doesn't exactly fit in with the setting.
>>
>>27063224
True, it's not like Yuri has any motivation to start a campaign world domination.

After leaving the Miss Longueville and the cart behind you begin to trudge through the forest for the next couple of hours to reach your destination. Once you and the others reached the clearing in which the earthen shed lay just ahead. Your group is at the edge hiding behind various trees and bushes looking at the shed to check for movement.

"Alright quick rundown how this is going to go. We are going to walk the remainder of the distance to the target building. We don't want to alert the enemy to our presence if they are there, but be careful. Keep your hood up and your weapon out, but don't attack without my say so.” You look at each of them as they nod while pulling out their wands or staff in Tabitha’s case as they pull their hoods on. “I’ll be taking the lead. I will be using hand signals so that we can remain quiet. If I raise my hand it means stop. If I see a figure or probable I will point to my eyes first, then to the direction, as well as the elevation and the number.”

They nod in understanding as you add. "Remember our primary objectives are survival of party, gaining information and recovering the staff of destruction. Dealing with the Thief will come later understood?”

They nod once again and you proceed to get low on the ground and crawl your way to the cabin itself. You lean against the wall lifting your head to peek at a nearby window;

No one is there.

The coast appears to be clear.

You informed the others to stay there except for Tabitha as you pointed her out to come closer in which she does so silently and swiftly as you had done. You draw your revolver and motion her to wait near the door to check for traps as you check the window to see if anyone is inside. Nodding she goes around to near the entrance as you go and tilt your head to the window and confirming no one was there and in closer examination you see no visible traps. You meet up with Tabitha in front of the shed door and confirming that there are no traps near the door either.

You frown considering that this might be a dead end or a trap but this was your only lead. However you swept the exterior for traps and it’s clean regardless of your suspicions.

Alright so I'm currently working on some more Tesenturian lore and was thinking about the flag, and decided that I should ask you guys about what the nationals colors of the flag should be. My own thoughts at the moment are a three stripe of (top to bottom) ice blue, white, then a tank or dark mustard color, with a manticore in the center. With the motto Mortem ex omni parte, or death on all sides.

You motion here to stay behind you as you slowly nudge the door slowly opening it with revolver in hand. Once opened you find it abandoned just as you’ve seen in the window.
“Nothing is here…” You muttered eyeing to the dust on the table to the iron stove that looks like it hasn’t been used in weeks. “Damn it.”

“Let’s check….” Muttered Tabitha as she took the lead as she began to poke around the small cabin.

You’ve began your search for anything that could lead to the Thief but as you expected nothing is coming up it looks like it has been abandoned for weeks. You search the stove, the table, and the cupboard but nothing. Just when you were about to call it in and get Kirche and Louise.

“Found it…”

You turn hearing the small girl’s whisper and see her holding the a box that was slightly bigger than her.

“Is that…” You stared at the box remembering that the Thief was carrying one of similar size.

During your time in a combat engineer and during that time you’ve developed certain sets of reflexes when you dealt with the various explosives you defused or armed during your military career.

One particular set in which you dealt with short fused or timed explosives in which you used now as you grabbed the blue haired girl and carried her out the door.

“Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit”

This is ‘Get the fuck out, it’s going to blow!’ reflex.

Highest roll 19

Luckily you managed to get out just as the shack collapsed under the both of you.

The former trying to fend it off with a slew of flames from her wand while the latter is being dragged away by said former.

Your blood is pumping, your reflexes active, and your mind is suddenly drifting back to a place far, far, away.

You don’t remember when you dropped that fresh recruit from tripping on that explosive as you see a another pair being chased by an enemy tank, your confused as to why it hasn’t tore them apart but it needs to go down before he takes your men out.

You take a block of C4 out of your pack and priming it as you charge the tank full speed. It notices you and as you got close swings its massive gun from its turret.

Highest Roll: 20

Highest Roll: 16
However you didn’t lose speed as you bobbed and weave curious as it has not fired yet only swinging its massive gun around. However you did a diving slide under its placing it the explosive where the left track will be.

Not taking a break you stop your slide only to tilt over enough to stand and in turn to keep running while not missing a beat using your‘Get the fuck out, it’s going to blow!’ reflex as you press the detonator.

Highest Roll 19

Even as you ran away from it you could feel the heat on your back, the flash from the corner of your eyes, and the sound deafening your ears and the others around you as you see a flock of birds flying out of the woods in fear.

Feeling you got enough distance you turn to see your handiwork.

“Target eliminated.” You mutter to yourself the tank is destroyed completely destroyed except for a piece of what might have been a turret.

“Yuri, Yuri!” You hear a private call your name wide-eyed and confused, she seems a little small to be a soldier did they change the law for children to enlist now? “You just ran into that Golem and blew it up!”

Send Louise out there to cast a spell, any spell. Meanwhile stand on guard and be ready for anything.
>>

"Ms Longueville are you injured?" You said cautiously approaching the fist looking around trying to see if the Thief is anywhere nearby.

“No, I think I’m okay….” She says forcing a smile though you can tell it is a bit uncomfortable. “I hesitated leaving you alone so I decided to try and catch up with you but I bumped into Forquet and well this happened.”

If her hands were opened she would had probably gestured towards the fist that is currently grabbing her.

“And well trapped me but before Forquet could do anything else there was a loud explosion and fled.” She explained as she tried to struggle out of the tight grip. “Can you help me?”

"Your story doesn't hold water."
"We weren't exactly moving at marching speed, you could have easily catched us."

"Furthermore, why didn't you scream for help when bumped with Foquet?"
"By your story, she trapped you before I killed the Golem, which means you had ample time to scream for help as you and I quote, "Bumped on her"."
"Not to mention, why didn't she go for the kill? When I engaged her, she had showed no mercy."
"Furthermore, you're a secretary not a fighter and you had an important job of transporting any wounded squadmembers, you had NO reason to abandon that task."
"And don't try to give me the bullshit that she ambushed you, if she had ambushed you, you'd be dead or knocked out."
"The only reason you'd scream AFTER the detonation, would be that it was YOU who got scared of the explosion during your meeting with Foquet or that you were drawing us here on purpose while Foquet escapes."

"Search her for a wand, I'm guessing we've found our inside source."
"This matter will need to be investigated more thoroughly."

You only stare at her as she struggles from the stony fist grip as the gears in your mind slowly turn and the stopped.

Something is not right and you cocked your pistol and pointed it at her.

“Wha-What are you doing!” She cried out staring at the cold piece of steel in your hand.

“Your story doesn’t hold water.”

“Yuri, what are you talking about?” Half-Pint says alarmed as he pull on your arm. “Put it down.”

"We weren't exactly moving at marching speed, you could have easily caught us." You said your arm not moving. "Not to mention if you were coming at us, we would have seen and heard you as we put emphasis on stealth."

“I got lost!” She replies struggling even harder clearly panicking. “By the time I decided to follow you I had no idea where you went!”

“Yuri!”

"By your story, she trapped you before I killed the Golem, which means you had ample time to scream for help as you and I quote, "Bumped on her"." You ignored the pink haired as you focused on the secretary. "Not to mention, why didn't she go for the kill? When I engaged her, she had showed no mercy."

“I-I do-don’t know.”

“YU-RI!” You feel a small pressure on your back and you briefly look to see Half-pint pointing your wand at your back. “Put. It. Down.”

It's because OP doesn't have any schedule whatsoever.
He just writes whenever he gets the time.
I wonder what will happen if he loses interest. That's bound to happen with a project such as this.
>>
>>27085568
"Tabitha, search for the caster.
And you, open your hands and keep them above your head.
Louise, be ready to throw an explosion."
>>
>>27085622
To be honest, that may happen but I'll do my best to at least give it an ending
>>
>>27085568
"No. I will not put it down until I am one-hundred percent sure. Think about it. How many people could have know that the staff was placed within the academy, let alone what room, and where in said room. The thief took less than a few seconds to find and remove the box after entering. That means that either there is a mole on the inside, or the academy had been infiltrated by the thief."
>>
>>27085665
You do know she's trapped inside a giant stone fist right?
>>
>>27085568
"I know this was an inside job."
"Thief normally wouldn't break in to steal a single object, and the fact that she was able to go in and out so fast confirms it."
"Considering you having same level of information access as the headmaster and the inconsistency of your story, I think we're going to have to disarm you and put you in binds till we can make a full background check on you and map out your recent activities around the time of the crime."

"After all, if you're innocent, it will be easy to see if you ACTUALLY are who you are telling us."
"All it will cost you is a few hours of unpleasant riding with your hands bound, surely you wouldn't object to that to clear your name?"

"Hell, for all we know, YOU could be Foquet considering nobody else was supposed to be here."
"Which brings me to the following question."
"Will wounds healed by water magic still leave scars?"
>>
>>27086206
I thought her hands were free.
>>
>>27086225
I just had a random thought of our character telling Louise to use Expelliarmus.
>>
>>27086281
Sorry, should have been more specific. Her torso and upper thighs are apprently restrained
>>
>>27086225
I'll second this.
>>
>>27086225
Seconded
>>
>>27086367
So more dialogue and keep the revolver on her
>>
>>27086545
yup.
>>
See if we can get her to panic with alibi and background checks.
>>
>>27087041
And interrogation skills. Slavic interrogation skills.
>>
>>27087068
Oh the things we will do to with with a sewing needle.

"Ah, and here you provide another anomaly for us my dear Longueville."
"You seem to be utterly terrified of this lump of metal I'm carrying here."
"Yet a secretary really has no business knowing what this thing here does."
"Why are you so afraid of a piece of metal, which for all you know might just remove your restraints?"

"Only one person was capable of reckognizing this tool I carry here and he was a former secret service agent."
"The only one person who would know what these kind of tools do, outside of the mister secret agent would be the only one I actually used these on after my arrival."
"You see, I've been rather careful about not revealing what kind of tricks I can do, so it's not exactly public knowledge."
"So why would a secretary have the same level of intel as a secret service agent on my tools?"

"No, I don't think I'll let you walk away free from this one."
"There are too many things wrong with what you say to allow you to walk free."
"We're going to detain you and take you back for further questioning so we can see what other interesting stories you have to tell us."
>>
>>27087784
We totally should have been a Commissar
>>
>Calling her out before having tangible evidence

I know you probably think we're some expert detective, but there's a girl with a wand to our back that begs to differ.
>>
>>27088068
Remind her of the explosives that using magic on us could invariably set off.
>>
>>27088121
Then we'll have to come up with some hilarious reason why we suddenly pointed a gun at a prone woman trapped under a fist.

watch as it's revealed that the lore is changed and she's not the thief at all
>>

Sorry, I had to do stuff and I was looking at the avaiable dialouge and your hoping to make her crack?

Give me a roll to see how effective it is

You said your eyes not tearing away at the green haired secretary. “Also Kid, remember what I said about pointing your wand at my pack filled with explosives.”

Her face paled as she quickly withdrew remembering what happened a few days prior having the wand off your back you continue with your reasoning.

"Considering you having same level of information access as the headmaster and the inconsistency of your story, I think we're going to have to disarm you and put you in binds till we can make a full background check on you and map out your recent activities around the time of the crime."

“What inconsistency?” She replied obviously a little annoyed being questioned in her position. “I already told you what happened.”

You only smiled as you leaned forward your mouth next to her ear and whispered.

Highest 18

“True, but you never questioned that my revolver was a weapon since I never used it once and only people who have seen these weapons or experienced in person should know the danger of my equipment.” The words causing her eyes to go wide and she begins to shake. “Now tell me does it still hurt, Forquet.”

"Stand down and you will not get hurt, but know this I have killed female combatants before and will not hesitate to do so again. Louise disarm her, Zerbst bind her hands and search her for concealed weaponry."
