Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are LUCAS WILLIAMS, a student in the Sturmfuhrer Academy and currently enrolled in its elite TIER ONE Program. You've already got your little squad together and ready, but you've run into a bit of a problem. This "teambuilding" exercise you're currently on is less "teambuilding" and more "oh god everybody is out to get you". More specifically, your teachers probably found it amusing to make everybody gang up on what was presumably the most powerful team. Yours.

Thankfully, you not only succeeded, but you soundly trounced the other teams thanks to a combination skill, guts and sheer dumb luck.

You also found out that your squad sniper, Morgan, is actually a girl posing as a boy, for reasons still unstated. However, you agreed to keep the whole thing a secret from the rest of the your squad.

And your Tier One training continues...

When Tarin and Ramirez said that training was going to ramp up heavily, they weren't kidding. Literally every day was spent on rigorous training, drilling, and exhaustive physical conditioning. In addition to the increasingly punishing obstacle courses and training regimens, you were constantly being dropped into the Wilderness for survival training, or sent to the shore up north to practice amphibious assaults.

It was here that you realized that your regular school days had come to an end. You no longer had the time to really just hang out with your friends. Class was six days a week, and you suspect they didn't have class on Sundays more because of some sort of labor law than any sort of sympathy. Either way, everybody was too bone tired to really do anything after each training session.

And suffice to say, not a lot of people could take it. Every week, you'd notice that there were fewer and fewer students in Tier One. Sometimes they didn't show up for class, other times they walked (or were kicked) off. If your instructors were affected by it, they didn't show it. Training just continued as always.

Miraculously though, Alpha Team managed to stay intact throughout it all, at least so far. Sure, there were some scares and close calls, like Morgan passing out during a mountain run and Charlotte spraining her wrist on the obstacle course. Mary-Kate, though, seemed to have the worst of it, as she was barely able to keep up with the rest of you. Sometimes you would think the instructors would swoop in and whisk her away, but she somehow powered through it.

Usually, training was pretty repetitive, but there were some things that you remembered pretty well during that grueling year.

You do remember the Annual Gallian Airshow, which was traditionally held at the Sturmfuhrer Academy. However, you can't help but grin a bit at the history of the event. About fifteen years ago, Gallia invited politicians, diplomats, and military officials from all nations to attend a military demonstration event.

Everything seemed to go well enough, with the Gallian army showing off its skills, but the real kicker didn't come until the end, when a flight of the then newly developed Condors swooped low overhead, giving the crowd quite a scare. The Condors then proceed to bomb a formation of "enemy" armor (which was mostly scrapped or captured Imperial vehicles) into oblivion.

Gallian High Command and the Emmerian and Federation delegates were suitably impressed. Mom always noted with amusement over the very pale and sickly looks the Imperial delegates had.

Suffice to say, that rumored third Imperial invasion never happened.

At this point, though, every nation had their own air force to some degree. However, the airshow was still held because it gave a chance for Gallia, and any participating nation, a chance to show off their latest hardware.

Aaaaaand this was where you came in. Because of the all of the foreign military personnel coming in for the event, security had to be ramped up. While espionage wasn't that big a concern, vandalism and street fighting were. So, the school administration briefly opened up temporary Military Police recruitment. Any student who joined up would get some extra credit, and Tarin and Ramirez agreed that they'd give volunteers a day off.

Oddly enough, only you, Mary-Kate, Sparky, and Charlotte signed up.

Either way, the airshow as in full swing. At this point, things should be relatively calm since everybody would be at the airshow, but there was still the chance there would be people wandering where they shouldn't, intentionally or not.

As much as you were tempted to head towards the airfield and maybe catch a glimpse of Lara showing off some of her flying, you remind yourself it's your duty as a temp-MP to make sure the school is safe.

Even with classes canceled due to the airshow, there are still quite a number of students milling around the campus, mostly those with other plans or not really interested in planes.

"Yeah, sure, I'll team up with Mary-Kate." You say. Honestly, you've been a bit worried about her for a while, considering she's clearly been struggling trying to stay in Tier One. If she had any worries about it, she was VERY good at hiding it.

"Whatever you say, Luke." Charlotte says, with a bit of a pout. What was that all about? "Sparky would probably be a cooler partner anyways!"

"Hell yeah!" Sparky grins. "Let's go find some guys to legally beat the crap out of!"

With that, Charlotte and Sparky break off, to perform whatever crazy prank or hijink Charlotte had in mind.

However, Mary-Kate doesn't seem to be her usual, peppy self, which is bit worrying.

You're a bit unnerved by her sudden shift in mood. It was as if everything she did revolved around getting closer to the Demons, which, while admirable, was extremely unhealthy in the way Mary-Kate was going about it.

So you start off patrolling the school commons. Nothing too serious, though. There are enough students around that nobody was really going to try anything, so you decide to try and strike up some conversation.

"You know, Mary, I've always sort of wondered." You finally speak up. "Why exactly ARE you so obsessed with the Demons?"

"Who wouldn't be?" Mary-Kate beams as she's obviously recalling a pleasant memory. "My dad used to talk about them all the time, how they basically went all over Europa kicking Imperial butt, and then they came all the way to HIS tavern to have a good time! I mean, it was the coolest thing ever to happen to our family, and... and I just want to be a part of it!

Huh, now Mary-Kate's hero obsession was starting to make sense. She was conditioned to love the Demons since she was born.

"So, Lucas, you're practically childhood friends with Charlotte and Falynn." Mary-Kate continues. "Do you, uh, have any tips on how to get closer to them?"

>>
>>26993987

But unfortunately only 1 starting Charisma. I hope enough people agree to raise C during level ups at least to 3 or 4. We already have two awesome potentials so the first few levels should be spent bolstering his stats.
>>
>>26994071
The problem with that is that this is a quest about fighting shit. I don't think we ever leveled up Charisma for anyone last VMQ.
>>
>>26994071
Of course. As we are, everyone needs to work on their skills.
>>
Terrible thought I just had.

What... What's the average lifespan of caucasian shepards?
>>
>>26994139
NOOOOOOOO
>>
>>26994109
Well we weren't playing as Lucas last thread. We were playing as a self-centered, battle-scared, hardass noble, and I wasn't about to suggest he level Cha. Lucas, on the other had, is a perfect fit to be more persuasive and I fully intend to vote for Cha when we first level.
>>
>>26994139
Have a worse thought.

Members of the Old People Club probably died of old age already.
>>
>>26994109

But it would be a real shame to not put the Nice Guy potential to use, and I know Merc has a lot of recruitable enemies cooked up. And if we choose to focus on being a charismatic leader that's one way we play Lucas differently from Jager, and that's what I want the most. Maybe Merc can chime in to prove my thoughts, but I think charisma will play a much larger roll in VMQ2.
>>
>>26994139

"Mary-Kate..." You sigh and stop to turn and face her. "Look, I don't really like doing this, but I have to be blunt with you. The thing keeping you from getting closer to the Twins is well... yourself. You're your own worst enemy here."

"...Huh?" Mary-Kate blinks.

"Look, I've noticed this over the course of training. You've basically been hounding the Twins ever since our team got formed. They're aren't their parents, so you shouldn't treat them like they are. And neither should you treat them as stepping stones to get closer to their parents, either."

Mary-Kate doesn't say anything. She just blinks in surprise.

Just as you feared, she was still clinging on to her beliefs. You didn't think it would be easy to snap her out of it, but you were hoping that talk would do the trick. However, you feel that you NEED to do this, it not for the Twins then for unit cohesion. You were very aware that Mary-Kate's behavior was grating on everyone in the squad, Falynn worst of all.

"Mary, I'm going to blunt about this. The team's opinion on you is not very good. You're too clingy to the people you want to hang out with, and you outright ignore everybody else. How do you think everybody will view you?"

Well, some of it seems to be getting through to Mary-Kate, so you continue,

"Try to see it from everyone else's perspective. Would you like to hang out with someone that pesters you all the time? You should really ease up and just get to know them better. Just don't look at Charlotte and Falynn as 'Jager and Sam Jrs. They're their own people. Did you know that Falynn HATES being compared to her parents? Mary-Kate is quiet for what seems like a long time. You're almost afraid that she's going to go into denial mode again until you see her smile sadly.

"You know, it does make some sense when you put it that way." She sighs as she leans back on a wall. "I just... really wanted to be someone special, you know? Not just plain old nobody Mary-Kate, who's going to live and die without anybody ever knowing she existed..."

"Just tone it down. We WANT to be your friend, we really do, except for maybe Edwin because he's kinda a jerk, but seriously. Treat people with respect and they'll do the same to you."

Fine.

So my brother had 4 girls lusting hard after him. They were the Asian, Blondy, Bitch, and Sweety.
He was absolutely clueless for the first couple of months, thought they were just good friends, is all. Needless to say, he was wrong.

Being his twin brother,(fraternal, sadly. I'm the ugly one.) each came to me asking for advice. Never one to pass up the opportunity for mischief, I set about getting them closer to him, while slowly cluing him in on whats happening. Before he realized it, they started being a lot more affectionate. He didn't know how to react.

I was laughing my head off at the proceedings, and the girls naturally formed rivalries. So I lightly imply to the girls that he was interested in them all. I made Bitch think she came up with the idea of sharing him. She was always a little slow, and I'm a psych major and preparing to to try for public office.

It took a couple months, but the rest of the girls eventually came to an agreement. It didn't work out as I had planned it. From what I hear, he was near enough raped. Sweety got them to stop, and that set the seeds for what I now needed to do.

I played on that. I made the other girls think she was trying to keep him to herself, she was "kicked out" of the harem. Bitch had never liked Blondy. A bit(lot) of alcohol and some subtle encouragement got them into a really nasty catfight. That was entertaining.

Asian didn't like this, and she and Bitch got into a heated discussion. The end result was both going their seperate ways. As for Blondy, I implied that my brother and I were gay for each other. She was deeply religious and didn't like this one bit.

And thus the harem was sundered, never to be brought forth again.

However, you don't get far until you see a bit of a commotion going on.

See, one of the biggest reasons security on the campus was ramped up was because thanks to Gallia's Universal Conscription policy, the Gallian armed forces had the largest ratio of female to male soldiers in Europa, and possibly the world. So, when foreign soldiers visited, well, the results were quite obvious.

Here, however, you see Falynn getting harassed by a pair of Emmerian pilots. They weren't doing anything too bad, but it was pretty obvious she wasn't enjoying their constant flirting. None of the have seen you yet, so you've got the advantage of surprise right now.

The two pilots look at each other, then at you, and it looks like they're about to talk back at you until the third pilot joins the fray.

"HEY, GUYS!" The third pilot laughs as he wraps his arms around the shoulders of his fellows, though it was less a sign of camaraderie and more headlocking the both of them to assert his dominance. "What's going on here? Not making a bad impression on these fine ladies here, are you?"

"N-nothing, sir." One of the pilots croaks. It seems that now being confronted by an alpha pilot, the lower ranking pilots have lost their steam.

"Hey, that's great. Now, you guys should probably head back to your barracks and STAY there. Got it?"

A quick squeeze of his arms proves to be adequate convincing and both pilots nod rapidly. The moment the third pilot lets go they both bolt off into the distance.

"I'm sorry, but who exactly are you?" You ask, still instinctively shielding Falynn.

"Aw crap, how rude of me!" The pilot gives you a casual salute. "Captain Isaac Dyson of the 3rd Emmerian Air Wing at your service!"

"You're here for the airshow I assume?" You ask

"Aw yeah, I was even in it for the opening act! Should've seen it, I was pulling some CRAZY maneuvers until they forced me to land for 'endangering the spectators' or something like that..."

"Uh huh." You nod. "You're not going to start any trouble or anything, right?"

"What, no, I already got someone in my sights!" Dyson grins. "But, sorry about that little miss, I'll make sure to give those two twerps a really good spanking!"

Dyson then reaches past you and ruffles Falynn's hair. She squeaks but otherwise doesn't do anything else. Dyson then chuckles and walks off, waving as he goes.

"Huh... interesting guy." You muse.

"Hey was actually pretty cool." Mary-Kate nods. "Almost makes me wish we could see him fly."

"What do you think, Falynn?" You ask, turning to face her.

"He's... not so bad for a loud, obnoxious Emmerian." Falynn concedes. "Anyways, thanks for helping me out there."

"No problem." You grin.

"Well, we're just doing our jobs, Falynn." Mary-Kate smiles." If someone else gives you trouble just give us a call, 'kay?"

"Ummm... okay." Falynn says, a bit bewildered that Mary-Kate is actually acting like a normal person to her. She looks at you and you just grin and shrug.

"A-anyways. I should be getting back to my dorm before more of those jerks start coming out." Falynn mumbles. She gives you a hug and scurries off."

"See? That wasn't so bad." You say to Mary-Kate.

"Yeah... it actually wasn't." She grins. "Come on, let's go find the others.

You manage to track Charlotte and Sparky down back at the airfield, where the rest of the MPs have congregated to keep an eye on the guests.

"So, what have you two been up to?" You ask as you approach.

"Ah, nothing much." Sparky shrugs, her eyes darting away suspiciously. "We totally didn't wire flash bombs all over the guest rooms or anything."

"Nope, not at all." Charlotte nods. "How about you two?"

"Nah, just scaring off some dumbass pilots who were bothering Falynn. No big deal." You shrug.

"Ugh, seriously, they're such assholes." Charlotte sighs. "You know one of them tried to cop a feel on me? Broke three of his fingers for the trouble."

"Uh huh..." You laugh nervously.

At this point, the crowd is starting to thin out as it disperses. Looking back at the airfield, you can see Lara and few of her fellow pilots appearing to be in some sort of heated discussion with some foreign pilots on the airstrip. However, you see some rather big packs of pilots moving off toward the campus, too.

Even if it is legal to use on people (it's actually legal to use for illumination and marking targets, just not in an anti-personnel role), I'd say not to, just because that shit is fucking horrifying. I'm a guy who cackles like a madman at videos of napalm, flamethrowers, and cluster bombs in action, and even I find WP disturbing. The idea of having to literally dig it out of a friend's skin with your knife, and the fact that it puts out toxic fumes, it just kinda makes my skin crawl. I'm not gonna try and claim any actual moral high ground on this, but it seems out of character for our eternal optimist to be willing to use something like that on people if he has any other choice.

While it may be out of character, there may be a situation down the road where we might be forced to use some of those...less than scrupulous weapons, and maybe have to come face to face with just how devastating such ordnance can be. The true test, in that situation, is being able get to past the fact that we had just subjected our fellow man to one of the worst possible ways to die, and maybe getting praise for doing so.

"Hey, Mary, Sparky, you go tail those pilots and make sure they don't start any trouble. Me and Charlotte are going to go check out what's going on at the airfield."

"Got it." Mary-Kate nods.

"Permission to use explosive force?" Sparky asks.

The image of Falynn getting chased by a pair of horny pilots immediately comes to mind.

"Authorized."

"Sweet!" Sparky grins, and she and Mary-Kate skip off.

"Heh, just like old times, huh?" Charlotte grins.

"I guess." You grin. "Come on, let's see what's up over at the airfield."

"Aw, Lara can handle herself." Charlotte laughs. "I taught her all of my dad's best move's, after all."

"You mean punch, punch some more, and keep punching until your opponent stops moving?" You sigh.

"Bingo!" Charlotte laughs.

You can't help but shake you head and laugh along with her. However, at this point, you finally reach the little commotion going on at the airfield.

You see an assortment of Emmerian, Federation, and even a couple of Imperial pilots congregating around Lara and her wingmates. From what you can tell, all of the foreign pilots were pretty young, so you assume they're visiting trainees, which wasn't good. They tended to be even more arrogant than actual pilots.

"You guys think you're all so high and mighty just because you got nicer planes, huh?" One of the foreign pilots scowls. "Showing us up like that just because you could?"

"You were going beyond your allotted flight time!" Lara shoots back. "We were trying to keep things on schedule!"

Well, the bright side was that with her wingmates, Lara's group was more more or less equal in size to the combined group of foreign trainees. Probably why nothing's started... yet.

"Oh yeah, we can take em." Charlotte says. "You take one and I'll take the other eight."

"Come on, be serious..."

By the time you get there, there's already a big brawl forming as Lara's wingmates rush in to defend her. That means the other pilots are too distracted to notice you approach.

You basically hit the group with a flying tackle. You shout no words, no battle cry, not even an anguished cry. You just silently wail on whatever person comes within arm's reach of you. By the time you come to your senses you realize both Lara and Charlotte are holding you back as you can see the foreign pilot trains fleeing, limping, or being carried off into the night. Lara's wingmates rush after them to make sure they don't come back, leaving you alone with your sister and your friend.

You also notice that you never even drew your club or your sidearm during that entire melee. Your knuckles are simply drenched in blood, some of it most likely yours, considering how badly your knuckles are aching.

"Holy CRAP, Luke, I didn't know you had that in you!" Charlotte whistles, extremely impressed. "We really should do this more often!"

Lara, on the other hand, regards you with a very scared expression.

"Luke, w-w-what just happened?" She whispers.

"I, I don't know what just happened!" You gasp, staring at your bloodied hands. "I saw you get pushed and I just went blank!"

"Either way, we've got to report this NOW." Charlotte says. "It's not going to take long for those guys to start whining up the chain. We need to get our side of the story in first."

"Y-yeah." You nod. "Lara, are you going to be all right?"

"I'm not leaving you!" Lara says, wrapping her arms tightly around yours. "W-who knows what trouble you're going to get into!"

With that, you head straight for the administration building. Thankfully, Ramirez is on duty, and the three of you tell him everything that happened on the airfield. However, you try to leave out the whole "going crazy with bloodlust" thing as much as possible, and instead try to cloak everything behind official and technical terms.

Ramirez for the most part nods in understanding and has the three of you put on standby. He then calls over the rest of the faculty, correctly guessing that a huge political shitstorm was brewing.

Sure enough, representatives from Emmeria, the Federation, and the Empire storm in demanding an explanation on why a bunch of their pilots have been hospitalized. Fortunately for you, you've got an entire squadron's worth of Gallian pilot trainees to vouch for you, and no matter how many times you're grilled and questioned by the representatives, you stick to your story and don't budge an inch. Considering that they were on foreign soil and that their pilots actually were at fault for instigating the incident, the representatives finally decided that the matter wasn't worth pursuing any farther and give up. By this point the sun is already coming up.

"So, am I in trouble?" You ask Ramirez as you sit in the interrogation cell with him. Your hands are cleaned and freshly bandaged, but they still sting a bit.

"With those foreign guys? Probably, but they can't much about it. With us? Hell no. You know, Uncle Jager was actually pretty damn impressed with what you did. Makes him wish he was 20 years younger again." Ramirez laughs. "Me? I'd have probably done the same thing."

You nod, but you're still wondering just what the hell happened. Maybe Ramirez would understand. Hell, out of anybody in this academy, he'd probably be the most qualified. But did you want to risk it?

"R-ramirez, I actually got something to admit..." You gulp. "I.... I don't actually know why I beat those guys up as bad as did. It's just... SOMETHING came over me and I just couldn't stop! It... it really scared me, sir."

To your surprise, Ramirez just nods, as if he wasn't even phased by the revelation.

"Yeah, I already know kid. I know all the signs." Ramirez sighs. "This... berserk mode or whatever you call it. It can either be a very great asset or a massive liability depending on how you use it. The most important thing, though, is we need to figure out what triggers it and figure out how to control it from there."

"Are you going to teach me?" You ask.

"What, me? No, I've just seen other guys who've had it." Ramirez shake is head. "But you're really lucky, because this year our resident OPFOR commander used to have the same problem you did. Anger management issues and all that."

He then pounds on the door three times, and a large, heavily scarred man steps inside, wearing an Emmerian officer's uniform.

"May I present to you former General Raul Menendez, once part of the Erusian Armed Forces before defecting to Emmeria and later moving here." Ramirez says.

"Good morning, Private Williams." Menendez says. Despite his scarred and ugly appearance, he had a very warm and fatherly voice. He sits down opposite you and gives you a very scrutinizing look.

"Hmmm, yes, it seems you were right, Ramirez." Menendez nods. "He definitely has it."

"Have what?" You ask nervously.

"A powerful urge to kill." Menedez leans forward. "You're a killer, Lucas."

"Wait, does that mean-" You blink.

"I can tell you more later, if you so wish." Menendez interrupts you. "But first, we must deal with your hidden bloodlust. If you leave it to fester, it WILL rear its nasty head again. Now tell me. What do you want to do with this mighty and terrible power?"

These... actually makes the game sound REALLY appealing. I think I'll actually risk spending the money. I know I heard something about "decisions" in the campaign? How does that work?
>>26999083
The real problem with a WWI FPS is that it would really be a MASSIVE departure from the "standard" that people are used to. I'm a big Red Orchestra fan, so I'd probably love the shit out of it, but most people these days aren't gonna want to have nothing but bolt actions, revolvers, a few early semi-autos, and shotguns. Sadly, from a business standpoint, it probably wouldn't sell well enough to justify a AAA budget.

>>

>>
>>26999122
>I know I heard something about "decisions" in the campaign? How does that work?

They don't work like Mass Effect, where a choice is neatly presented to you. There are also missions you can outright fail and the plot will take that into account. You have certain possible courses of action, and whatever you do will have consequences later on.
>>
>>26999089
>I want to get rid of it.

MURDERLUST is not something we want inside us, even if we can control it.

it happened because he didn't know about it, once he learns about it and gets it under control it won't happen.

And Idealism is good and all but this is not dipomacy, but Tier one, I doubt we can talk people to death.

That and getting rid of it may hinder his combat ability in a nasty way.

"I don't want it." You say, shaking your head. "It goes against everything my parents raised me to believe in. And... it scared Lara, so there can't be anything good about it."

"A wise choice." Menendez nods. "The bloodlust can be useful at times, but eventually it will become your undoing."

"However, you can never truly get rid of it." Mendez's hands ball into a fist before loosening up again. "But, if you adopt a certain mindset, you can ensure the bloodlust won't surface."

"What do I have to do?" You ask.

"Bloodlust can only be conquered through willpower. You must have an inner belief that you can use as a core to resist temptation. I understand that your father is a Belkan knight?"

"Yeah." You nod. "I want to be just like him."

"Good, that will make things easier." Menendez nods. "You'll have to live to the codes you set for yourself and never stray from them. Even faltering for a moment may doom you. Do you understand."

"Yes." You nod. "By the way, sir, what do you believe in, then?"

"Acceptance." Menendez replies. "That one is not in control of everything, and eventually, everything withers and dies."

"That... doesn't sound very happy." You frown.

"It doesn't, does it?" Menendez grins. "But it works."

He then slides a card to you.

"That's my office number. Every Sunday you are to meet me and we will work ensure you won't succumb to your inner bloodlust. Is that acceptable to you."

"Assuming I can stay awake, yeah."

"Good." Menendez stands up and shakes your hand. "It's a pleasure meeting you, Lucas. I hope to see you this Sunday."

With that, Menendez exits the room.

"Weird guy." You remark after you're sure he's out of earshot.

"Yeah, well, he knows what he's talking about." Ramirez sighs. "About ten years back, he lost his sister to a botched assassination attempt. Killed over fifty guys, half with his bare hands."

"Whoa." You gasp.

"Well, he's not really like that anymore. At some point he realized blind vengeance wouldn't get him anywhere and he tried to change himself. And... that's who he is today."

"Huh..." You casually turn the card over in your hands. "So, uh, class is going to start soon, right?"

"Well, you got the day off thanks to your MP duty. Go get some sleep."

With that, you exit the interrogation room and make your way back to your dorm. With all the excitement having died down, you now suddenly realized how impossibly tired you are. You flop down on your bed and go straight to sleep.

Thats exactly what I was hoping for.

Too many games, shooters especially, and recent CoD most of all, try to beat you over the skull with what little plot they have.

I mean having a thin plot isn't always a deal breaker, not every game has to be a metaphorical journey to emotion land, but jesus christ don't treat me like I'm an idiot. I don't need every plot point explained to me in bullet points, and if the plot in question is BAD then it goes from just insulting to truly disgusting.

>>
>>26999264
Heh I know right. At the time I started writing this post there were 25 votes against, at 5am in the morning. Are there even 25 people in the thread now? Doubt it.

It's actually a bit of a trick question because in order to get rid of it you have to first bring it under control. The in-character response is obviously to get rid of it, but it's not going to be an overnight process. I think what's going to happen is that down the line we are eventually going to wind up in a situation where the only way out is through a pool of blood, ours or theirs. And it's going to be there waiting just under the surface. THAT is when the real hard decisions get made.

>"However, you can never truly get rid of it." Mendez's hands ball into a fist before loosening up again. "But, if you adopt a certain mindset, you can ensure the bloodlust won't surface."
And there you have it.

We set out on this path resolving to stay a white knight despite knowing where it leads. I hope we can stay a white knife too.

>>
>>26999473
That... Is an excellent question.
>>
>>26999473
You'd either need a really high strength stat or get a really good roll on potential generation. Or go through a special story event like we just did here.
>>
>>26999487
Would that event involve getting ragnite-powered power armor?
>>
>>26999473
why wold you do that? unless you come up with some revolutionary design, its still a HMG that churns through ammo, ammo that is heavy and much larger than anything else, meaning you get less rounds with it

if anything, getting better strength stats should be used for carrying more armor or ammo, things you can use, not a fucking .50, just because its a fucking .50
>>
>>26999473

Probably, but we get 1 strength with every level so unless you want to start running and gunning asap we don't have to spend a point on it.
>>
>>26999473
yeah, thats not gonna happen, use that strength to carry ammo and not be retarded
>>
>>26999473
I'd advise against it. Fiddy boolits are big as fuck and we'd only be limiting ourselves in terms of ammo. True there are situations where having the fiddy would be handy, but those would be few and far between.
Ofcourse now I'm giving Merc Com ideas so yer.

My vote's for accuracy
>>
>>26999363
i'm gonna say strength so we can carry more ammo, we almost ran out in that skirmish, and in real combat, you want metric fucktonnes more than 2 belts
>>
>>26999515
We should also make sure every member of the squad is carrying at least one spare belt. The MG provides the base of fire off of which the entire squad works, so keeping it fed is important.
>>
>>26999529
or have a decent backup we can rely on when we run out of ammo because these retards pick a .50 in the future and waste all our rounds on some shrubbery
>>
>>26999548
Maybe we can carry a compact SMG or sawn-off shotgun.
>>
>>26999487
How big was Jaegers Var mkII compared to a 50cal? I was a little surprised we ended up with a simple 30cal instead of something like that since you described the Gunner class as being a Lancer with machine gun. Lancers are known for heavy armour and really heavy weapons, so far Gunner just seems like a shocktrooper without the speed.

>not a bigass fucking gun
Have you ever actually seen what a 30-06 does to things it hits? And this thing spits them out at around 10 rounds per second. It is a VERY big fucking gun.
>>
>>26999548
yeah, unlike Jager who can lift Vars mk2 with his dick, I got a feeling Lucas may require some strength in addition to accuracy if he wants to operate nicely as a gunner.

And I asked about the .50 cal just as an offhand thing, wasn't really thinking about inefficient it is ammowise
>>
>>26999560
you underestimate how heavy a squad automatic weapon is, the thing that our .30 is based off of, a 1919 most likely, is a 3 person crew served weapon

and we carrying it, its tripod/bipod and ammo all by ourselves WITH heavy armor
>>
>>26999560
Var. Mk2 was basically cut down to roughly assault rifle size, and it's a unique weapon.

Shocktroopers have only ever been traditionally armed with SMGs. Currently, they're armed with assault rifles and are the equivalent of riflemen. Shocks never really did handle HMGs, which is what Gunners do now.
>>
>>26999566
And Merc, sent you an email for name change for a sheet.

Oh my fucking God why am I so anal about this?
>>
>>26999567
Var Mk2 is a fucking broad sword attached to an assault rifle and grenade launcher, it's fucking huge
>>
>>26999587
.30 is almost the same as 7.62. It's a perfectly reasonable weapon to carry around. Besides, it's better than the NotBAR.
>>
>>26999600
>.30 is almost the same as 7.62
...

.........

for the love of god, to not try to compare calibres of ballistics through 2 different measurement systems, you make yourself look like a moron
>>
>>26999592
No I'm well aware. Though I seem to be vastly overestimating the size of the Var mkII. I mean, have you seen the original?

1919 with bipod and a box mag sounds reasonable, especially if we don't have to carry ALL of our own ammo. VC kind of handwaves that with engineers.
>>
>>26999600
We are carrying what amounts to a Browning M1919. So, extrapolating the stats from that:
It weighs 31 lbs. empty.
It'll eat a 100 round belt in 10 seconds.
And we run and gun with it.
>>26999641
I believe he was saying that .30-06 is ballistically comparable to 7.62x51 NATO, which it is.
>>
>>26999600
....Are you shitting me?

GPMGs are NOT light.
>>
>>26999654
I don't think he even knows what .30-06 is let alone the fact that 7.62 (in its many forms made by many countries) is .30cal
>>
>>26999655
Actually, a 1919 does only weigh 8 more pounds than an M60, and it's perfectly possible (although not fun or comfortable) to fire a 60 from the shoulder. Actually, we should probably try to get a 60 as an early R&D purchase. Cut the weight of our primary weapon a little to let us carry MOAR BOOLITS, and give us an actual stock so we can use it with some degree of accuracy on the go.
>>
>>26999674
one is designed to be fired from the shoulder, the other is not, and there is about 35 years of development between the two, something like a MG34/39 is more likely, it would be essentially what we have with a different rear receiver with a stock attached and a new trigger pack with a pistol grip
>>
>>26999689
>there is about 35 years of development between the two, something like a MG34/39 is more likely
It's currently 1956. Historically, the M60 entered service one year later, and while they are behind on aircraft, the VCverse has traditionally been slightly ahead on small arms (see: pretty much everyone having semi-automatic rifles as standard issue to even their lowliest of conscripts by 1935).
>>
>>26999674
>>26999689
Putting a stock on a 30cal would kind of defeat the purpose. If you want better run and gun firepower we WERE offered the choice of a magazine fed LMG.

A shoulder strap to make hip firing easier would be the only improvement I could see. Otherwise you would be trying to do things the 50cal and LMG do better.
>>
>>26999715
you do realise that putting a stock on a GPMG helps it immensely when using it from a rest or mount? otherwise why would the M249 or M240B have stocks?

you don't just slap a stock on there to run around running and gunning like you're holding a SMG
>>
>>26999715
Please look up the m27 iar. That's just a rifle with a larger magazine. The soldiers hated it. It couldn't hold nearly as many rounds as the m249, thus could not suppress the enemy as easily. And modern infantry combat is all about fire and maneuver. A M2 might be a better base of fire, but you can't maneuver with it.

Hmm, okay clearly going forward we need to get more details about the weapons we carry because "30cal" can refer to any number of things. If we are the "machinegun class" then our selection of weapons is going to be rather large because from what Merc says that covers everything bigger than an AR.

If we are supposed to be an anti-infantry Lancer then the first image that comes to mind is someone in heavy armour hip firing a large MG while slowly advancing. But it's clear that we are responsible for other things too like manning stationary HMG nests.
>>
>>26999772
Dear Frederick, thank you for your nice letter, but this is actually a weapon built by US Marines which was born to kill, whereas clearly you seem to have mistaken it for having been designed by some sort of wine sipping, communist dick suck. And although shitty plastic shells to hide internals probably appeal to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, this gun was meant to be wielded a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior which wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember his enemies and defile their civilizations. Not having a stock sucks a hairy asshole, Freddy. Stocks on M1919s are the mother-fucking answer.
>>
>>26999829
10/10
Nice referencing.
>>
>>26999674

Creating a GPMG first necessitates the creation of a smaller cartridge that has the same ballistic characteristics as the cartridge we're using presently. Can't have the chicken before the egg in this case.
