Welcome ladies and gentlemen to another edition of Succubus Lord Quest! Last time on Succubus Lord Quest, we finally went to Old TO at long last! Upon getting there, we bore witness to a Pride Demon beating a Succubus protester nearly to death. But after saving her and helping her back to life, she claimed herself to being an Okarian Battle Mage going by the name Wilhelmina Gottschalk. After the meeting, Brooklyn was invited over to her humble home in Old TO where they had some small talk about Succubi and Okarians before deciding to drink the night away, and the vote ended with Brooklyn deciding to go home for the night before tomorrow.

We now continue where we left off!

Also the second post was an ugly post with lots of eyesore text, which is now all compiled here!

A Succubus babe, a stogie, and a cup of tea. That’s all you ever really wanted in life. But even after single-handedly saving Earth - Again - you were ready for nothing more than just to sit back and enjoy the finer things in life. A long period of relaxation with no more friggin demons.

But no, all of that was ruined the very moment a plasma beam ripped through your home. Books burned, tea vaporized, and burning wood from his tropical living location filled the air.

Brooklyn headed over to one of the nearby fleeing civilians of the area, which is usually odd as many of them simply stop and stare at awe in him for a few moments.

“Hey. Mind if you can get go get some help?” Brooklyn asked in his deep, masculine voice. “I got a little probl-”

“HELP! HELP! FORT HOPE IS UNDER ATTACK! A DEMON LORD KNOWN AS LORD LANGY HAS TAKEN OVER FORT HOPE! THEY’VE TAKEN ALL OF OUR WOMEN AND MUTATED THE F.H.P.D.! WE NEED HEL-” the man is then cut off, a solid hole burned through his chest by a demon tossing a fireball at him nearby.

The demon stands on top of a house, snarling down at you with its hellish red eyes and brown skin with spikes. Having none of this shit, you take out your trusty gold plated pistol and aim it right at his head.

“It’s 2’o’glock, time to die.” you say to the alien as you pull the trigger several times, the first shot landing directly between his eyes before the second and third blow his head outright up.
>>
[2/2]

With a heavy sigh, you begin to head towards what is the epicenter of the invasion point. “Great. What’s the problem with all these Demons attacking Earth anyways? How many alien races need to have their asses kicked?”

Standing in front of the old medieval castle that has seemingly materialized out of thin air downtown, the cold stone walls seem to go for miles high, but the gate still being open as demons poured out downtown earlier. The clouds above you are dark with lightning crackling above, eeire red light seeming to come out of the windows on all sides. No doubt the demon Lord known as Langy being inside of the damn place. Attacking this place would be suicide for single man. But you’re no mere man. You’re Brooklyn Browning, hyper masculine alien asskicker extrdorinarie!

“I guess one more.” you say slamming a fresh clip into your gold pistol.

“Quick! To the main gate! Brooklyn Browning is attacking!” you can hear an ape like demon roar as nearly a half dozen other royal guard demons come out wielding shotguns, the main head of them wielding what appears to be a minigun. Most of them are currently taking up defensive positions in what appears to be a garden with various pillars and statues to that ugly freak known as Lord Langy.

time for some landscaping, dodge bullets in between the statues and shoot the minigun wielders first.

"time for some landscaping."
>>
“Time for some landscaping.” you say as you quickly take aim with your pistol at the minigunner, firing off an entire clip in the span of only a few scant seconds.

The minigunner’s commands seem to only quickly become gurgles of blood as he goes about trying to get whatever air it can into his windpipe.

The rest of the demonically mutated guards are not faring any better either. Taking over one demonically sure doesn’t make them a looker, it also makes them real stupid too. You come out behind a pillar, grabbing hold of a shotgun from demonically possessed human, now looking at your massive 2 meter tall frame in what you figure as horror.

“It’s time for you demons to get the boot.” you say as you slam your boot into the demons chest, shattering its ribs as he goes flying away. With an expertly timed shotgun blast, you also reduce his head to paste pretty much instantly. The rest of the shotgunner aliens are no match for your “Kick-them-in-the-face-until-they-die” fighting style!

“Brooklyn! Over here!” a scantily clad woman dressed up in rags and tied up says sitting on top of a fountain.

You recognize this woman. Her name is Oksana, a Librarian from Queen’s. Being the badass that you are, you naturally untie her.

“Brooklyn! I overhead those demon thugs talking about a trap they’re setting for you down in the basement of the castle! The same place they’ve taken all the women! Please don’t go! It’s too dangerous!” Oksana says pleading with you.

“They are no match for the browning high power." you say to yourself full of assurance.

“Well... I can’t stop you Brooklyn... Oh! They did drop this on the way here! Maybe it’ll be useful!” Oksana says pulling out a red keycard.

“Not what I was after, but it’ll do.” you say as you pick up the keycard from Oksasa, heading over to the main castle itself. It isn’t that hard finding an elevator with keycard access going down. While the computer itself appears to be half wooden now, it appears the spell is starting to transform what is left of the lower floors into medieval crap now too.

The elevator itself appears to be rather large in of itself, with a glass panel behind you containing a rocket launcher, the message of “IN CASE OF DEMONIC INVASION, BREAK GLASS.”

Upon the elevator door opening before you have a chance to break it. The scene in front of you being that of a large cult dressed in odd robes and praying before an altar. The young girl tied up on top of it being Erika, one of your millions of adoring fangirls.

“BROOKLYN BROWNING! HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT OUR LORDS EMPOWERMENT RITUAL!” the woman says removing her cloak, showing that she now has snakes for hair, scaly skin, and a forked tongue. “HE WILL MAKE A BETTER SACRIFICE FOR OUR LORD! KILL HIM!”

She has to be the cult leader, the vocal ones are always the cult leaders.

By sheer reflex, you break the glass and reach for the Rocket Launcher.

“Empower this.” you say as you use your rocket launcher to literally blow the snake woman to bits, sending blood all over the cultists and expensive cultist themed cloths with Lord Langy’s symbol.

“Damn, I guess the carpet did match the drapes.” you say to yourself while moving the cigar around.

“Without wasting a beat, you quickly charge into the room headlong towards the cultists. You quickly jump up onto the first cultist, jamming your mighty foot down onto the ugly bastards face before taking out your minigun, mowing down the rest of the mooks as you crash through them all. One of them however does actually manage to stab you in your shoulderblades!

...Only for the knife to literally bounce off your steel hard pecs. However the very fact that this demonic bastard landed a hit on you is far more damaging to your ego than any bullet wound could be!

“I ain’t got time to bleed.” you say kicking the cultist before grabbing your bottle of whiskey.

“Need a light?” you ask before using the tiny cinders of your cigar as a way to blow fire at the cultist, burning him alive, screaming while running blindly in pain.

[2/2]

Once they’re all dead, you go over to free Erika.

“Oh thank you so much Brooklyn! I knew a manly badass like you would come to save me!” Erika swoons while giving you a hug, before she regains her composure. “Brooklyn! Lord Langy is above us! Just take that elevator next to the armory and you’ll be up at his Stadium! He wants to make an event out of killing you!”

“That demonic bastard will pay for vaporizing my home.” you say as you head over to the armory. The instant digi-struct armory has a sign over it.

NOTE: DUE TO INCREASED VOLUME, ONLY ONE SUPERGUN WILL BE ISSUED TO EACH ALIEN ASSKICKER.

“Let’s shine a light on this demonic invasion problem.” you say as you order the Buster Spark cannon.

It takes a few seconds to digistruct, but once it does it appears to be more like a bazooka with a giant white crystal in front of it, a symbol labelled “THIS END TOWARDS ENEMY”. Various knobs and meters are also across the gun, displaying all sorts of power related information.

After which you take the elevator up to see Lord Langy, what catches you off guard is that Lord Langy really did go all out in preparation for this. Scores amongst scores of demons can be seen seated in the rows of the seats in the stands of all shapes and sizes, all surrounding a massive open field that appears to be a hockey stadium with two giant nets on each side. A large scoreboard is on the other end, the BROOKLYN score being “Dead” and the LANGY score being KING. In front of the scoreboard, hoards of scantly clad woman in rags and chains can be seen, many of them you know such as the twin CEO’s of Nitrorin Corporation, Leona who is the (rather hot) daughter of the Mayor, and lastly the Mayor of Earth, Janine.

Langy himself appears to be far more imposing, long having mutated into a creature nearly three stories tall and dressed in extremely imposing armor. His razor sharp teeth glisten in the flames surrounding the arena for light while his armor makes him appear to be more like a robot than a demon. In his left hand he carries his own weapon, a large fire stone rock inserted into his right hand.

“FOOL! YOU’VE ONLY COME THIS FAR TO DIE!” Langy says to you as he begins advancing towards you.

“BROOKLYN!” a shrill voice yells next to you.

“HUH!? WA!?” you say nearly jumping out of the bed you’re in. When looking around, you can see both Ada in her street urchin clothing and Welhelmina dressed up in her leather armor but this time with a sword by her side.

“It sounded like you were having an interesting dream.” Wilhelmina says in her deadpan voice.

“You could call those strings of stupid one liners a dream?” Ada asks Wilhelmina.

“Curious, what were you dreaming about Brooklyn.” Wilhelmina asks.

Your eyes glance down towards your body. Gone are the rock hard manly abs you had, now only replaced with giant pillow tits. The other look to your side, you can see an old world RPG supplement datapad for the game you were running for the guys back at home. “X-COM: ATOMIC ACTION MOVIE EDITION”

“Many, many things... Of things lost, things that had been, thing gained and things that might be..." you say with a small tear falling from your eye.

“Concerned question, are you alright Brooklyn.” Wilhelmina asks kneeling down next to your bed. “I was worried if the drink I gave you last night was too potent.”

“I-I’m fine Wilhelmina, no cause for concern.” you say wiping your eyes.

“Well here’s your wake up call Brooklyn, we’re about to head out of the Laminian section of town. We’re about to set off soon, so hurry up and get changed before the pickpocketers wake up en masse.” Ada says.

“Yea I’m aware. I’d like to meet this Arum person you mentioned about, plus it's foolish to head into a city full of factions blind. I’m hoping she’ll be able to help out on that front.” you say going behind the changing curtain of your wagon.

[1/3]

Upon getting ready for the day’s adventure, you quickly put on your leather armor before heading out with Wilhelmina and Ada. The trip is seems to be rather harmless at first. Sure the markets are just starting to get crowded, and you can indeed see more than one Succubus being told how to advertise for their stall for the day.

What does surprise you however is that Ada leads you into an alleyway of the marketplace, pulling open a manhole cover.

“...You’re kidding.” you say as you watch Ada open the manhole.

“I’m not. Now suck it up.” Ada says as she begins to climb down it.

“I always thought that the Laminian derogatory slang of ‘sewer rat’ was just an insult.” Wilhelmina says heading down into the sewer.

“I only wish. The sewer remains popular for us because since we’re naturally small we often make good use of them.” Ada replies. “But the very fact our home base is in a sewer...”

“Why isn’t the manhole guarded?” you ask going down.

“It was. You just didn’t see them.” Ada replies to you. “Alright from now on keep your hands on any of your valuables. I hope you brought a pouch full of metal pieces like I told you.”

“I’m used to Laminian territory.” Wilhelmina replies.

...Fuck. You must not’ve caught that warning last night when you were too tired to think...
>>
[2/3]

As Ada navigates you through the sewers, you do find it somewhat hard to stifle the stench of this area, but at least you find it easy to see with your light orb. The materials of the sewers themselves appear to be mostly old world brick in many places, but in some areas where battle damage is evident, stonework can be seen in areas, rather shoddy in comparison as it leaks... well you’d rather not know what. Ada herself appears to be freezing the ground ahead of her, at least preventing your clothing from touching sewer water proper.

“Oh yes, if you can, both of you change into about the same age that I am.” Ada replies.

“Why?” you ask.

“Because if you appear to be adults in the town then you’ll stick out like a sore thumb; the only thing that’s going to happen to you then is that you’ll be mugged until your clothes are gone.” Ada explains as she ducks under a broken pipe.

“Point taken.” both you and Wilhelmina say as you revert to Ada’s physical age.

Upon taking another turn, you can only see what appears to be a small lake of sewer water, the platform you’re now standing on appearing to be a constructed wooden dock. As you round the corner, you can see several Laminians standing by what appears to be a rather small wooden door, one that most adults or even taller kids would need to bend down in order to fit.

One of the Laminian’s squint as she stares at Ada for a few seconds, before her face seems to light up. “Well lokat what came down the kill today!”

“Hello Hecta. Two guests, both Succubi, let us pass.” Ada says to them rather bluntly.
>>
[3/3]

“Oi! What’s wit dat highty tighty accent ye be usin’?” Another Laminian with a crossbow across her back says, this time sounding irish.

“What’s wit cho? Usin’ dat fake as ‘ell british accent.” Another Laminian says materializing next you, scaring the utter crap out of you. This girl has what appears to be a machete hanging off her hip, dark skin with dreadlocked hair.

You can tell that Ada is not amused by the questions of these Laminians. Hell you’re not even sure of their relationship to Ada.

[1/3]

You decide to let Ada handle her ‘friends’ for the time being, instead focusing on making a small spur-of-the-moment spell to put your coin pouch inside of your own shadow, replacing your own coin pouch with a soligram copy.

“Look, since I last left the gang I decided I wanted to try a new life for myself, and I’ve succeeded in doing so. The two Succubi here, both Okarians, are acquaintances of mine. I have to speak to Arum, as I wish to discuss some urgent manners in private.” Ada claims.

“To brag right?” the Irish Laminian asks.

“Are we clear to go in?” Ada asks in a more irritated tone.

“Geez don’t get your knickers in a twist. Yes go, go on in.” The Irish Laminian says.

“THANK you.” Ada says as she walks past the Laminian group with you in tow.

Upon pushing upon the door, the main thing you’d expect to see is another sewer like lair, but what really catches you off guard is that everything within the area is a lot... cleaner than you thought. The roads appear to be normal, clean roads while the lamps up on top of the streets appears to be well-lit with light orbs, a Laminian even flying up recharging the light orbs from the lampposts. The buildings themselves appear to be excellent quality as well, made from actual wood and painted in same bright colours as the local shops. The horrid smell that seemed to plague the sewers seems totally absent here. A sight that would’ve never seen otherwise, which is droves upon droves of teenage girls roaming the streets, each of them casually chatting, giggling, fighting, doing all the things normal people do with nary an adult in sight.
>>
[2/3]

“I’ve never seen so many young looking girls in one area...” you say looking in awe. “Plus this area’s so well made. I thought it’d be different from living in a sewer but... wow.”

“Nor have I.” Wilhelmina states, but you can probably tell she’s in a state of awe as well.

“This area used to be an old world transportation hub, old even in the days of the Old World. Queen Lamia herself made it into a backup HQ for the Laminians. While it was razed once before, the Laminians managed to reconstruct it. As for seeing all of the Laminians... you get used it.” Ada says as she enters a place called “Lion’s Head Inn - Underground” with a picture of a cartoon lion on the sign of it, the door being smaller than a normal door of course.

Inside of the Lion’s Head Inn you of course see quite a few Laminians. Waitresses abound, but some of them talking about more mundane things like how they want to make their street cleaning job easier by knowing Earth Control, but what does catch you off guard is seeing a few full grown men at a table, all of them having beers while giving tips to what appears as a busty Succubus waitress.

“...How?” you ask Ada as you look at the scene.

“Laminians get husbands too. Often times they prefer to live here, especially if the past is shady. People who fight against the Pride demons also tend to take refuge here.” Ada says as she walks up a set of stairs. “Also they keep one non-Laminian waitress in the hotel staff at all times for diversity and... well the same reason men want busty waitresses.”

As you and Wilhelmina soak up the sights, Ada stops in front of the door guard. “I’m here to see Arum.”

“Table in the back.” the young asian girl wearing a kimono says opening the door, showing what appears to be a more private room with several stalls.
>>
[3/3]

As you enter the room and head towards the table, you can see it being surrounded by nearly three other Laminian guards, one of them carrying an old world rifle. However sitting at the table appears to be a rather mundane middle aged man, but sitting next to him appears to be a brown skin girl just a tad younger than Ada. She appears to be wearing some leather armor on her top, but her midriff is completely exposed otherwise. She has soft brown hair and soft brown eyes, but even though she looks young, you can tell from her gaze as she has quite a bit of experience.

“Hello Arum Aum, I have at last returned!” Ada says in a cheery sounding voice.

“Ada. Another year I was going to sent out a scout.” the brown girl replies looking at Ada before looking at both you and Wilhelmina. “Brooklyn, Wilhelmina. I heard a few things about you both. Please have a seat.”

Making your Aura show a different emotion is difficult, while Arum may be able to do it she might not be doing it at the moment, I doubt that the guy who isn't a succubus can do it, and I doubt that the Laminians acting as guards can do it either.

And even if Arum can do it we just have to remember this is either what she's feeling or entirely possibly what she wants us to think she's feeling.
>>

While the male is unlikely to have such an ability, Masking your aura is significantly easier than altering it.
Might I direct your honor to when we found Ada, she was consuming the emotions at the game, then her aura disappeared...

Note; It may have been Aether Sight I might have been referencing there... but I do think it was Aura Sight...

You give a small curtsy towards Arum. "It's lovely to make your acquaintance Arum. But you shouldn't believe everything you hear, unless it's positive, then it's definitely true. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you keep tabs on Fort Hope.”

“Unless you want me to go back on the word of Ms. Waller here, then I believe the information I got about you is rather correct.” Arum says making a small gesture to Ada.

“Indeed! While Brooklyn may be an inexperienced Succubus, she certainly does have some talent. She was instrumental in helping me not only take over Fort Hope, but to consolidate control over it.” Ada replies after.

“Uh... Should I get going?” the middle aged man asks Arum.

“Might be for the best.” she says patting him on the hand, a bit of a pained smile on her as she leans into him, meeting up with him to give him a small peck on the lips.

“Aw...” Wilhelmina says in her monotone voice, which ironically sounds more sarcastic if anything.

“A boyfriend!? My Arum! I didn’t know you had one!” Ada says moving into the spot where the man left.

“Yea... Been also trying for a kid as well.” Arum says, her arua being a a Vermillion color as she sips her tea.

“EH!? A ‘child’!?” pretty much all of you gasp at once.

“What? Is it unusual that when a man and a woman love each other enough they attempt to make children?” Arum asks, looking somewhat confused from your responses. “Anyways what called you all here? I highly doubt it was just to hear Ada gloat.”

“I had a business proposition, but since Brooklyn is rather new at all this, I figure this would be a good time for him to ask some questions.” Ada replies.

What we want: A metatropi device (preferably a ring) that can allow a Laminan to shapeshift into an adult. Needs to be reliable to the maximum extent possible, does not have to be fast, usable in combat, or have a broad range of capabilities. Just aging and bust adjustment
What we can offer: Money, Question Fate ritual.

“Well since I'm rather new to town I would like to know more about the important people within the town. It simply seems prudent.” you say sitting yourself down. “The leaders of major factions and those they trust or who manage things for them, any who manage to stay independent. And more on the current state of Succubi in Old T.O., especially in regards to the Miyian and Okarian conflict."

Arum simply sighs. “Every time I hear about that turf war it makes my head hurt.”

“Question, is it true it basically started with Miyians protesting the loss of knowledge, then a Miyian killing an Okarian Lord.” Wilhelmina asks.

“Yes that part is true. I even launched an independent investigation and stole the weapon that was used to kill Dukina, the Okarian Lord that was slain. The Sloth demon contact I had said that it was certainly Miyian work and didn’t match the working of other typical Sloth demons weapons.” Arum states.

“So it was caused by them. Wonderful.” Wilhelmina replies in her flat tone.

“Is that sarcasm? I like to think I can tell Okarian tones apart but I want to be sure.” Arum quickly replies to Wilhelmina, her aura a Dark Blue (suspicious).

“Concern, no, it was not meant to be that way. Regret, apologies.” Wilhelmina replies.

“None taken. I know you Fighter Guild types usually only go into the turf war for money if you do go into it.” Arum replies.

“Can you tell me about the leaders of the Okarians and the Miyians.”

“Easy. Leader of the Okarians is Wendy Subota, daughter of the late Okarian Queen Oksana. She’s powerful and I think she doesn’t have a vested interest in the war, as I’ve never seen her take an active hand in it. Then again most of the information we have about her is sketchy at best.” Arum replies.

“Why’s that?” you ask.

“She never leaves the library.” Wilhelmina replies.
>>
[2/4]

Arum gestures to Wilhelmina. “Your Okarian bodyguard probably knows more personal details than I do. I’ve only been in the Library once, and that was when I was escorted by Mary.”

“Mary?” you ask.

“Mary Subota, second eldest daughter of Late Queen Oksana and also a Laminian. She has a home down here but she spends most of her time in her library residence. She may genetically be a Laminian, but in nearly every other aspect she’s an Okarian through and through.” Arum replies.

“She even speaks like us.” Wilhelmina replies.

“So if she’s Queen then why doesn’t she order the Okarians to stop?” you ask.

“The Okarians... See they were somewhat unique. Back in the days of vanilla, there were Succubi that learned magic and prized it above all else yes, so when the chance to become a new sub-class of Succubus that focused in magic came, they jumped at it. But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Late Queen Oksana wasn’t the Queen many of the Okarian’s wanted. They wanted more of a traditional mage, and instead they go someone they regarded as an idiot sorcerer focused on current pop culture that just got lucky with the power lottery.” Arum replies.

“Wait, so Okarians didn’t respect their own Queen?” you ask.
>>
[3/4]

“All of them respected her power, no questions about that. Many of them mainly questioned other things. Such as her youth and inexperience, the usefulness of new technology towards magic when Okarians had been using things for thousands of years, the fact that she was more a Sorcerer in terms of magic than a Wizardly Scholar of magic. Certainly there were many Okarians who were loyal to the late Queen, but many only really paid her lip service and used her simply for resources. The Okarian Library was built to be a focus point of those resources, and Queen Oksana knew that by controlling it Okarians would at least respect her.” Arum says. “Still it was basically akin to a cat lady trying to herd wild cats. It wasn’t like the Aide leadership which seemed to a bastion of unity or the rigid, yet very well respected Belkarian hierarchy.”

...Wow. You kinda feel sorry for Oksana for putting up with all that.

“Question. How does this factor into Wendy not ordering the Okarians to stand down.” Wilhelmina replies.

“Mary told me she did, multiple times. They don’t listen. Wendy is held in higher standard than late Queen Oksana was, but the damage of nearly 500 years to a sub-clan in it’s infancy was done. There is a far less taboo of Okarians ignoring orders from their Queen compared to the other ones.” Arum says.

“So since you’re the Laminian Queen, does that m-”

“Oooohhhh no. I’m not Queen. Mary or Chika are the main targets for the Laminian Queen.” Arum says cutting you off. “I just handle the... bureaucratic accounts. This is mainly acceptable for Laminians as Queen Lamia had her first husband run the Laminian race for a few decades.”
>>
[4/5]

“Shocked question. A mortal was actually in charge of the Laminians.” Wilhelmina replies.

“Yea, Laminians tended to be easygoing, many of them thought it was cute. Lamia’s husband did become a Laminian himself after a some time though.” Arum replies. “It also nearly drove late Queen Janine nearly insane.”

“What about the Miyians?” you ask. “Why doesn’t the Queen order them to stop?”

“Because she’s pushing for Miyian rights right now, and she’s currently using the old Okarian’s before the Science Lord Wars as a scapegoat. Miyians are worried that they won’t have the materials they need to do their experiments, and they’re worried that the Okarians will take whatever is left for stuff like artifacts and the like.” Arum states. “Unofficially, I do support their stance. I think the Okarians had be cutting into their resources for some time, but I condemn the way they’re going about doing it.”

“...Question, does that mean you’re with the Okarians.” Wilhelmina asks.

“Why do all the Okarians immediately ask that?” Ada asks.

“Preservation perception. They think it the end result will have one clan dying out over the other.” Arum replies. “No, the Laminian force, apart from Mary, is neutral in this affair.”

“...But didn’t you say Mary has a shot at Queen of the Laminians?” you ask.

“A title she doesn’t want as she considers herself an Okarian. Clan Identity Disorder.” Arum replies. “The Miyian’s treat her as such. Believe me we get enough heat from them on claims we ‘shelter’ her time to time.”

“Ah.” you reply.

“But as for why she doesn’t order them to stop... I think there would be an issue there. Late Queen Miyu was actually well-respected by the Miyians, but at the same time many Miyians were headstrong and Late Queen Miyu mainly left her clan politics to the Gemelli or Aide branches.” Arum explains.
>>
[5/5]

“Question, no Ayarian outsourcing? Wasn’t politics their speciality.” Wilhelmina asks.

“Ayarians and Miyians had friction, something about not coughing up resources. I personally think the Miyians were spoiled brats back in the old world, but that’s a topic for another time.” Arum says before she gets back on track. “Now this set a trend for Miyian leadership, in that the head generally stayed out of widespread affairs unless it was a matter of critical importance to the race. If it was of importance, they definitely all put down their tools and listened. But in matters more general or things the Miyian race didn’t agree with? It’s akin to steering a rampaging Bull when on top of it with your bare hands. Not the easiest thing to do in the world.”

“Basically the Dean of the Miyian University, Grendel Beck, would have great difficulty stopping the Miyians who have a vested interest in the clan war.” Ada replies. “...Beck is still the Dean right?”

“Yup.” Arum says as she grabs a mug of beer and begins to drink it.

I'm sorry but don't you think Ada could have procured such a device over the last thirty years if that's the route that she wanted to go? I think we need to get Janine to lift the specifics of exactly what Ada wants for herself if we don't want to accidentally offend her.

>>27031671
Because she hasn't had the resources and or it never occurred to her.
>>
>>27031532
I agree. It will make a marvelous gift.
>>27031671
I don't see how this would possibly offend her. Everything she has ever said clearly indicates she HATES her shape-shifting.
>>
>>27031694
I very much doubt it never occurred to her, Ada's one smart (if something's singularly focused) cookie. As for resources, I'm pretty sure she could have amassed a serious enough fortune over her time at Fort Hope to have outright bought one years ago. So either this thing is insanely complex to make (and a solidogram camo unit with tactile psycho-feedback doesn't really sound that bad aside from the energy consumption bit) or there are other factors causing a compatibility issue. I mean sure we can ask, I just don't think we should mention that fate ritual off the bat since in all likelihood we're going to come up blank.
>>
>>27031798
OP has outright said this is possible when asked.

>>
>>27031815

>>
>>27031840
Probably never occurred to her. A player literally invented it, so meta wise its pretty mean to steal their solution to an NPC's problem without giving them the IC credit for coming up with the idea.
>>
>>27031840
>Then I'm surprised that Ada didn't buy one last night.
Ada wasn't too high in the power structure before, so she probably didn't have access to the funds necessary for the device
>>
>>27031840
For additional clarity, the skill we are using is Metaptropi, which can be found on Miyu's sheet. Apparently Sandact mentioned that for more limited shapeshifting such as this someone with Metaptropi at good could create the device, though someone with the skill at Great! certainly can.

"I can see why it makes your head hurt, it looks like an utter clusterfuck. I already want to throttle everyone involved...” you mutter to yourself.

“Same.” Wilhelmina replies.

“That clan war was my breadbasket growing up.” Ada states.

“That and the kissing booth scam you guys had set up at the schools.” Arum replies.

“YOU SAID YOU’D NEVER TELL!” Ada barks back, aura showing anger.

“Hard to keep a personal when the rest of your gang was bragging about it.” Arum replies back without a hint of distress in her voice.

“What's Beck like?” you ask.

“Odd. For one she wears exclusively male clothing, though I think she does that to mock the ‘official’ Pride and Greed Demon colleges. Like the stereotypical Miyian, she’s rather headstrong. Like the stereotypical Miyian leader, she often guides her clan with a very gentle hand, really only offering encouragement or sentences. Officially she doesn’t support the clan war, unofficially I think she’s lying so hard that she suit is bursting at the seams with shit.” Arum replies as she sips her drink. “Her close girlfriend was killed in the early days of the gang war before she became a Queen, so I know she has a vested interest in it. She doesn’t really stop any Miyian from building devices for the gang war using the university’s equipment or resources. I will say that some Miyians at the college are thankfully educated in proper morality to see the whole war is stupid, but at the same time help the other Miyians for fear of their own lives against the Okarians.”
>>
[2/3]

“What about the other Clans? What part do they play in this headache?" you ask.

“Ayarians prefer to remain distanced from this war, as do the Belkarians. There have been reports of the Gemelli heads giving the Miyians some support for some reason. Aides have been shown giving open support for the Okarians, mainly due to the good history the town clans had. However they’re strictly non-violent, so the Miyian’s don’t attack them blatantly.” Arum states.

“If the Miyians did, the Aide’s would have them wiped out in a month.” Wilhelmina replies.

“The Aides are that strong?” you ask.

Wilhelmina shakes her head. “Aides are favored by the Pride Demons, moreso than others. Hence not only do Aides lack any sort of reproduction restriction law, but Pride Demons actively encourage their promotion for how easy they are to ‘tame’.”

“Yea, the clan imbalance is really off. If you add up all the other clans you still wouldn’t hit the number of Aides that currently exist. They’re a Pride Demon favorite.” Arum replies.

“...Reproduction Restriction Law?” you ask.
>>
[3/4]

“Yes, Pride Demon’s legally restrain how much a Succubus is allowed to reproduce. Legally when a Succubus wants to have a child, she has to ask permission from the Pride Demon HQ.” Ada states. “If you’re a Miyian or a Laminian, the answer will be no.”

“Like any of the Succubi pay attention to those stupid laws. My friend had a child ad didn’t say anything to the Pride Demons.” Wilhelmina says.

“Yea it isn’t an issue. Most Succubi wait until their late-40’s or 50’s before trying for a child. I mean I was like... 97 before I had my first child.” Arum replies. “The thing is some Succubi wish to have a child without wanting to worry about the legality issues of raising them. So Aide’s have the option of going to a Pride Demon camp, breaking themselves, then they’re allowed to have as many children as they want. This practice over the years led to a very lopsided Aide ratio.”

“Uh... Interesting...” (“Speaking of which, do you know where I can find a Miyian Superscience shapeshifter ring for Ada?”) you say while using a secret message.

“First, you’re an Okarian. Chances are most Miyians loyal to the university will shoot you on sight. Secondly, we’ve already had an issue of Ada and her groupies using Metaptropi medications before.” Arum says looking at Ada with a cold stare. “Am I right?”

“Oh piss off Arum!” Ada says standing up, her aura burning a brilliant color of hate. “Don’t tell me you were never had any sort of issues with your body!”

The two guards outside eye Ada while reaching for their weapons, but stop when Arum raises her hands, her own aura a light blue (calm).
>>
[4/4]

“I’m not going to lie. I did, any Laminian does at some point in their life. I even tried those medications, but they’re not worth it. The forced changes it caughts to your body puts you at risk for permanently blocking your aether routes within your body, not only that but it feels as if your skin is going to explode off. Or you can get the painkiller version of it which all the problems I just listed but with the added benefits of having nearly no inhibitions whatsoever. I’ve seen more than one Laminian become broken the warped by some twisted Miyian or Okarian with M.A.D.S.” Arum states.

“So whadime supposed ta do!? Be constantly treated as some runt in social work for ta rest of my stpoid lyfe!?” Ada says, her accent completely changing into a jersey one.

“Yes. It’s called acceptance. Using things to your advantage. Blackmailing a doctor into making a note that says you’re a legal adult. Hell I used to have the same problem as you did, but now I have a loving boyfriend with whom I have a healthy relationship mentally, emotionally, and sexually.” Arum tells her. “You’re so fixated on this idea of ‘becoming’ an adult Ada. You keep trying to do things merely to prove that, but to us you’re already an adult. The only one you’re trying to convince that you’re not a child is yourself. Deal with it.”

Ada seems to grit her teeth at Arum, before she then storms out of the area, sleeve up to her eye.

“That was harsh.” Wilhelmina says.

“I’m harsh because I care and she can take it. She’s still at the Denial section of the five stages. Ada, like others, thinks that only she is suffering her own unique problems with this, but I’ve seen the same shit for nearly hundreds of years without fail, so I know exactly what she’s going through, and I think she needs to grow up.” Arum replies. "Besides, I didn't even get to critiquing her performance at Fort Hope."

>>
>>27032932
I suppose we should ask more about Ada and her past. Not trying to pry or anything, but right now we've only had a very narrow window into who she is, well, her projection of who she wants herself to be. We need to know more if we want to be able to keep working with her without stepping on her toes or if we actually do want to help her deal with her issues. Let's be honest, she's incredibly sensitive to anything she perceives as patronizing, so it probably would be better to work with her than to simply surprise her with and instant solution to all her insecurities.

Personally, that's about all I really want to do here, but I'm not one of the politically minded anons.

As for Ada, she's been seriously embarrassed, treated as something like an adult child in front of us and had a bit of a breakdown. Give her some to get herself back together and remember to make some time to talk with her privately this evening.

Oh, one last 1am question for Arum (if it hasn't been answered): are Lamian chi-systems (personal aether fields, whatever we're calling them) notably inflexible? That pain comment makes me think that adult form shapeshifting isn't a directly physical problem.

Thanks Sand and good night.

"Well since that little plan was shot down, as the resident lamian expert in the room how would you suggest we allow Ada to rule Fort hope herself without using intermediaries when the whole ‘oh wait your not getting any older’ issue kicks in?" you ask Arum.

“Using intermediaries is the best plan and Ada knowns that. However for her this is a personal matter of sort to want to rule your town without having to expose herself. I understand that completely, hell I’m doing such a thing right now as the Laminian head. But honestly the best thing to do? Wait until normal, then go to a doctor you paid off and claim it is a grow disorder.” Arum says. “Even if the doctor is straight, chances are he’ll pull it off.”

“...Wouldn’t the Pride Demons check for Laminians?” you ask.

“They do for towns with a large strategic worth. But given how isolationist Fort Hope was and your complete lack of demonic population? I think it’s a safe bet Articus won’t know. He rarely cares about his mortal followers.” Arum replies.

“What did she also do wrong in Fort Hope?” you ask, looking around for Ada.
>>
[2/2]

“Honestly? She took too goddamn long. Ada’s a perfectionist through and through, but sometimes she lets the perfect chance to strike pass right by her. She could’ve had Fort Hope under her control in literally half the amount of time it took.” Arum states. “For example, why not just kill Langy and hang his body for show in front of the town the very second she was in line? This would *certainly* send a message across. For anyone else who’d want to challenge the throne... Hell I’d l’ve one alive on purpose before doing the same thing that happened to Langy. Or just give them a massive beating with heavy blackmail, do it to a random person so no one catches on. Instead, she took her time, nearly got caught, and sent an over-paranoid mortal Lord over the edge.”

You try to think of some points to counter it, but Arum does seem to make a strong case.

“Now I’m not shitting over her accomplishments. I am actually happy she took over Fort Hope. Both emotionally and for the deals I wanted to discuss with her. She proved herself capable of doing the feat which I knew she could do for years, but the main bit is you still got to remember the basics of operations like this or else the whole thing falls apart. Attempting to organize the noble politics after you became a Lord would indeed take longer, but there would be less clean up.” Arum explains.

(Any now I go off to school for an 2 hours)

"I disagree that the heavy handed approach would have been the superior one. What you have in Fort Hope right now is a culture that thrives on mercs by necessity. When you have that many mercs in one place complacency is frankly the only thing between the nobles in power and the hired help. Arum nods her head as she listens to you, putting down her drink after your explaination. “Unexpected things happen in every plan. Late Queen Lamia coined the phrase ‘expect the unexpected’, which actually has become and important cornerstone in Laminian structures at all levels, meaning our methodologies are extremely flexible. Again I have no problems with what Ada did, but the issue was the time to do so. According to her reports, she managed to get a little more than half the court. Such a number is excessive. She assume that every single one would be *directly* aiming for her, and didn’t realize that most nobles will be after each other just as much as her. Now I will give you that the mercenary bit is a wildcard, hence why it was essential to get those people into your pockets as quickly as possible. Mercenaries they may be, they still decide on what jobs to take or not.”

You look a bit sour at Arum’s expression, unable to think of a counterpoint.

“But hey, you may be right. I only know what Ada told me in her letters about Fort Hope. I’m only looking at things in general terms, but it might’ve been a specific case and I may be completely wrong. Believe me one of the things about this job is knowing when to admit you’re wrong.” Arum replies when sipping a drink.

“Ugh... Politics were so much more simple in X-COM Atomic...” You mutter to yourself as you sip your drink.

“Wait... X-COM Atomic?” Arum asks you, stopping just as she’s about to drink.
>>
[3/3]

“Uh...” you remain frozen in fear for a second, unsure of how to respond.”

“As in X-COM Atomic Action Movie Edition? I LOVE that game!” Arum replies, almost appearing to gush. “The way it’s just over-the-top cheesy and encourages it all the while is excellent! I still remember my first game with, I was some sort of he-man like character, I killed a mook by kicking him into a steam pipe then made my one-liner ‘Looks like you need to let off some steam.’ Of course then there was Ada’s mom who made this Space Marine that was all like... “You are huge! That must mean you have huge guts! Rip and tear!’”

Arum chuckles to herself a bit afterwards while sipping on her drink.

>I’m not going to lie. I did, any Laminian does at some point in their life. I even tried those medications, but they’re not worth it. The forced changes it caughts to your body puts you at risk for permanently blocking your aether routes within your body, not only that but it feels as if your skin is going to explode off.
how anyone else didn't see something like this coming boggles my mind. the Lamian problem is inherent to them being succubi and a basic level polymorphic device or spell wasn't going to help, or that downside never really was a downside. to get a Metaptropi device that works would probably take more skill then you're likely to find now a days.

But yeah we need to figure out a way to meet the various "queen" and get them on our sides, even if they don't have that much control on their clan we'll have an easier time convincing the factions that don't want to fight to side with us then we can move in to broker peace between what's left. Now we just need an excuse to start all this shit without talking about the queen or sounding self-righteous meddling into other people buisness.

"I ran a game for some friends back in Fort Hope, you wouldn't believe the one-liners they come up with." you say entertaining Arum, both of you having a small fit of laughter.

“...I am so confused right now...” Wilhelmina replies.

“It’s only a game we’re talking about Wilhelmina, nothing more.” Arum says with a smile as she calms down from her bit of laughter.

“But back to Ada. In this case I was actually referring to how her delay caused a series of events that allowed me to assemble a fairly respectable, though small, gang of spirits and enlightened mortals to help her out. While this is admittedly pure serendipity, it does give the two of us much more flexibility when it comes to things like bandit issues or that damned forest of ghosts." you tell her.

“That’s really just random events though. Granted getting that band of adventurers you had probably wouldn’t have happened, or at least infinitely harder to accomplish. What I consider most important is that it lead to a clue about that Necromancer.” Arum states. “That.... That was big. If your friends didn’t stamp that out then you would’ve had a serious problem on your hands. Langy’s rampage probably caused far less damage than what those monsters would’ve, so I guess blind luck is indeed good in some circumstances.”

“I’m just wondering why you’re treating the girl so hard.” you ask while sipping a drink.

“I’m not. I’m just providing criticism based on her performance, and believe me: she doesn’t take criticism well.” Arum tells you. “This is partly because she holds her mother in a high regard, and feels like if she hears anything negative she’ll just drift out of her shadow.”
>>
>>27043922

Simple. Game Night.... At least for Arum 'the Administrative Leader' of the Lamians...

either way, It would probably be best done in private, just us, the Defacto Clan Leader and the Clans Queen...
It is doubtful we could get them to visit the shrine without raising any suspicion, so it will have to be via the ritual...

[2/3]

“Did Ada and her mother have a rough relationship or...” you ask.

“Oh no! They got along splendidly! She was honored that her mother was a Viper, and indeed that earned her a bit of prestige amongst the Laminian gangs here. Ada was a problem child when she was younger.” Arum replies. “That accent you hear from her is actually the original accent she and her mother had.”

“Question. Aren’t all Laminians.” Wilhelmina asks.

“No, nearly all kids do in some fashion. Anyways when Ada’s mother died it really shook her up. At that point Ada decided that she would stop ‘wasting her life’, trained for a few years, did some risky jobs to pay off her apartment here, before she decided to go take over a town for herself.” Arum stated.

“I’m sure she died an honorable death.” Wilhelmina says

“Actually she choked to death on a pretzel.” Arum says.

“...Are you shitting me? A Laminian Viper, basically a super spy, killed herself by choking to death on a pretzel!?” you ask.

“Yea... Not... one of our better moments...” Arum states. “Ada doesn’t really like talking about it, for obvious reasons.”

“...Next topic. Is using Miyian Superscience to transform yourselves that harmful?” you ask.
>>
[3/3]

“Miyian Superscience, Life Control, whatever the case may be it rarely ends well. You see the condition of us being youthful isn’t just physical for us, but metaphysical too. I only know the basic theory behind it, but Laminian aether flows solidify a lot more rapidly than other Succubi clans. This in turn causes us to cease our physical growth cycle a lot sooner than other Succubi. The aether passages for us is akin to the blood circulatory system, digestive tract, and gives us the ability to use supernatural powers, same for any Succubi. Since ours is more rigid, it reacts violently when forced into a physical adult body, in where the phyiscal body grows but not the aether channels. Like now for example, you feel a bit cramped in that current body don’t you?” Arum asks you.

“A little yea.” you reply.

“That’s because your aether flows are compressed. For you it isn’t problematic, as your Aether flows are very malleable. But for us Laminians... while it can shrink, it cannot adjust to expansion to an adult body. It’s akin to forcing an adult to wear the same clothes as a kid wears. Very, very painful to wear. Not only that, but when the effect wears off, the aether flows may not align properly, causing all sorts of really nasty health problems, including death in rare cases.” Arum states.

“Death!?” you gasp, actually amazed it can come to that.

“Rare, but it happens. I admit we do keep some on stock at all times, just in case we ever need to turn one of our agents into an adult, but I accept that physical infiltration may not be one of our strong points. We are on good terms with the Ayarians, so if we need a court infiltrated socially we contact them. Laminians have always been best at scouting and breaking into things, so that’s what we focus on doing best.” Arum says with a drink.

“Can you tell me anything about the Pride Demons in this city?” you ask.

“I can tell you what they ate for breakfast. Some information is more expensive than others.” Arum tells you.

“I just mean a general overview of things.” you reply.

“That’s easy enough. The main noble family in charge of Old TO is the Rucka’s.” Arum replies.

“Woah woah what? As in one of the big eight royal Pride Demon families?” you ask.

“Yes, they’re fairly massive families. The Rucka’s always disliked attacking Earth, claiming there was little economic benefit, but were outvoted by the more militaristic royal families. They were even more sour when Celestia took a decent chunk of Europe away and even more enraged when Russia found their tech vault. As such they settled on just occupying the towns which were close to the main portals themselves. They specialize normally in trade, and may whatever higher power you believe in help you if you get in their way.” Arum states.

“So they’re ruthless?” you ask.

“They’re cunning and regarded as being the bank of the Pride Demons. While all Pride Demon houses have trading involved, it’s the speciality of House Rucka. Articus hired them to manage the trade in Old TO and Aden portal towns, so they basically run those areas.” Arum states. “Heists are a great way get rich here, but incredibly difficult as House Rucka takes money very seriously.” Arum states.

That doesn't really follow; it's possible to have set things up into a new equilibrium with a one-time injection of energy. (Think of it as the difference between generating a forcefield and building a wall.)

Thinking back to your father, you decide to ask Arum the other obvious questions.

“What can you tell me about Celestia in this city?” you ask.

“That they definitely have illegal colleges and churches here. You know, the typical adventurer cranking machine where they fool some poor smucks into thinking they are ‘the chosen ones’ before they ship them out to die some horribly violent death somewhere.” Arum says sipping her drink.

“Do you know the locations of them?” you ask.

Arum stops in mid-wipe of her mouth. “...Don’t tell me you’re going to pissing off Celestia.”

“It’s a family matter, I’ll leave it at that.” you reply to Arum.

Arum takes a small sigh. “Celestia church constantly moves around, but the mortal university downtown is an obvious front of Celestia. The Pride Demons however can’t prove Celestia runs it, and until they do they did make an agreement for the mortal population to run the university as they see fit. They often get ‘VIP’ students, either training them or housing them for a short duration.”

“Got it. Thank you Arum.” you tell her.

“I’d... really advise being careful there though. Celestia does have a ‘kill on sight’ policy against demons.” Arum warns you.

This is your Father. One of the brighter people you know of. You highly, HIGHLY doubt that he’d willingly go along with Celestia’s order of his own free will.

“Anything else you can tell me of them?” you ask.
>>
[2/2]

“Church locations and the like. I’d like to give them out for free but given how they move around like cockroaches and strike back with terrorist acts I need to be selective with that information.” Arum states.

“Fair enough. Can you tell me about Queen Oksana’s third child?” you ask.

“What? Luna? She’s like a wildchild version of her mother. All of the power and none of the sense. She has natural talents for both Light and Space. The latter bit of those powers making her extremely random with her whimsy personality. Contacting for anything is a pain in the ass, as she can anywhere she wants and if she sets up a blocking ward then finding her is also going to be a massive pain too.” Arum states. “She does occasionally come to Old TO time to time, but often she plays along with Adventurer groups as a Sorcerer for hire and seeing how long they take to notice.”

“...She goes along with Adventurers.” Wilhelmina asks.

“I’ve given up trying to predict her actions a long time ago.” Arum replies shaking her head.

“Ah, there you are Ada.” you say as you walk up behind her.

“‘Ell naw. If anything I was gonna see if I could turn Fort Hope inta some sorta place where Laminian’s could relax at least. Real estate in Old TO is a bitch and seeing as Fort Hope was so remote... Well I thought I otta try it out at least.” Ada says swirling her drink around.

"Interesting. I know a few people who were involved who have rather more ambitious designs than that, but one thing at a time. First, lets get you back home before you pass out and leave us poor Okerains all alone. My exploding purse trick is probably only going to work once after all." you tell Ada.

“It already has.” Wilhelmina says pointing to your now absent coin purse.

“HA! Score one for decoys!” you say happily.

“Check ya shadow.” Ada suggests.

Looking back around, you can see your eyes meeting up with a Laminian whose arm is currently up to her elbows in your shadow.

“Time to go!” she says quickly running off with your coin purse.

“BRING THAT BACK HERE YOU BITCH!” you say quickly running out of the door after her.

“Wait for me.” Wilhelmina says as she chases after you.

You attempt to navigate through the town to catch the Laminian, but even into the sewers itself.
She tries to cloak, but your aura sight manages to peg her easily. She is however nimble as all hell, and while her power isn’t at the level to nullifying your darkness tentacles, she does manage to retard and slow them down.

You’re almost afraid of losing her while you get to the streets, due to all of the moves she tries to pull off avoiding you. Pushing people aside in the market while you dash through the crowded storefront. Eventually, you notice her ducking into a nearby alleyway, wherein upon going in there after her, you notice that she’s no longer there but your money pouch along with several others.

“Score!” you say as you run down to grab your money pouch.
>>
[2/2]

“Looks like the they stole from other people in the market too...” Wilhelmina says witnessing the small stack of money pouches, not sounding out of breath despite the small marathon.

“Indeed, they got... quite a haul...” you say sorting through the money pags, somewhat out of breath yourself.

“Found you.” another voice says behind you.

Looking behind, you can see a short woman with light brown hair, a fairly cutish face, and glasses with pure red eyes t-

Red eyes....

Oh fuck.

“You Laminian’s think that stealing money from people in the marketplace is a fun game, don’t you?” the woman asks walking towards you, her cloak opening up to show three pairs of well-toned arms that all begin to crack their knuckles. “I think it’s time that someone taught you a lesson in why you shouldn’t do that.”

That... That is an Ashuran Wrath Demon. An Ashuran Wrath Demon seeing your young girl self in front of a large pile of money, some of which is probably hers, and probably thinks you stole it.

“...So even catching her was a trap...” you say sighing as you turn back into your adult form.

“Oh, so you’re not a Laminian.” the Wrath demon replies.

“Yes, both my bodyguard and I are Okarians.” you say.

“Terror, please don’t make me fight her.” Wilhelmina says to you.

“You won’t. See my dear, these money pouches belong to quite a few other people in this area, myself included.” you tell the Wrath Demon.

“How do I know you’re not in on them for a cut?” the Wrath demon asks.

“Well because I-”

“You’re not getting out. It’s time for you to learn your lesson...” the Wrath Demon says cracking her fingers.

Well... At least your death will be quick.

******

“And that is the form of the social contract that Hobbes addressed.” The Wrath demon says putting down her book.

“Hm... I never heard that interpretation of it before...” you say thinking to yourself.

“I never knew Wrath demons had scholars.” Wilhelmina replies.

“It’s... not popular amongst our kind.” the Wrath demon replies, a hint of regret and anger in her voice.

"I'm actually a scholar myself. Though I'm more of a historian and scholar of Aetheric theory and beings than a philosopher. And I found your insights thought provoking regardless of your race or origin.

Though the historical problem with the social contract is that on a large scale is that there are many who would not wish to live under the terms of the tacit contract and the government will use force against those who seek to opt out of the contract. And within those who lived under the contract there were many who sought ways to use the protections of the contract while hiding the fact that they did not uphold their end of the bargain.

Look at taxation, while it can be said that in exchange for said taxation, upholding your side of the contract, you receive governmental services and supported infrastructure, but one can not opt out of said contract and any attempts to do so were considered illegal and punished, such as not paying your taxes. In addition the acceptance of the contract by your ancestors means while you were expected to follow the terms of the contract you were not given a chance to make an informed decision whether to be a part of it or not. The pervasive nature of the government infrastructure also made it quite difficult, if not impossible, to use some aspect of the commons to your benefit.

Would you like to continue this conversation over a cup of tea? I take quite a bit of pride in my tea."

Gah, forgot a word and the end of a sentence. “What drew you to the path of the Scholar?” you ask.

“Because I think there are more solutions to life than just punching things in the face repeatedly. True enlightenment comes from only both Body and Mind. Most Wrath demons know this, but train the body exclusively and leave the mind to some other time, which is usually never.” the Wrath demon explains. “I like to seek wisdom and knowledge, deriving entertainment from it moreso than punching people in the face.”

“You speak like Okarians do. Question, is that on purpose?” Wilhelmina asks.

“Sort of. I practice the Clear Mind state of combat. Uncommon, but not exactly rare for my kind. You’ll notice that I still use inflections in my voice.” The Wrath demon replies.

“Does that mean you’re not prone to extreme emotional outbursts?” Wilhelmina asks.

“They’re a bit over exaggerated.” The Wrath demon says making a ‘eh’ sign with one of her hands.

“The true story of the Two-Armed Asura had him split a moon in two during a duel with his hated rival.” Wilhelmina states.

“Yea well he had it coming consider he stole his daughter.” The Wrath Demon replies.

“The. Entire. Moon.” Wilhelmina states again.

The Wrath demon sighs. “Even those who practice the Raging Heart style, it doesn’t mean they’re mindless berserkers. Yes we are known for our... rather strong outbursts, but it’s no different compared to the things all other demons need to put up with. I prefer to be more calm, so I practice the tempered heart style.”

“Hm... Interesting... I'm actually a scholar myself. Though I'm more of a historian and scholar of Aetheric theory and beings than a philosopher. And I found your insights thought provoking regardless of your race or origin.” you reply to the Wrath Demon.

“I thank you for you compliments. Is there anything in particular I as incorrect about?” she asks.

You were kinda afraid to point such a thing out actually, for fear of a knuckle sandwich.

“The historical problem with the social contract is that on a large scale is that there are many who would not wish to live under the terms of the tacit contract and the government will use force against those who seek to opt out of the contract. And within those who lived under the contract there were many who sought ways to use the protections of the contract while hiding the fact that they did not uphold their end of the bargain.” you explain. “Look at taxation, while it can be said that in exchange for said taxation, upholding your side of the contract, you receive governmental services and supported infrastructure, but one can not opt out of said contract and any attempts to do so were considered illegal and punished, such as not paying your taxes. In addition the acceptance of the contract by your ancestors means while you were expected to follow the terms of the contract you were not given a chance to make an informed decision whether to be a part of it or not. The pervasive nature of the government infrastructure also made it quite difficult, if not impossible, to use some aspect of the commons to your benefit.”

The Wrath demon is about to open her mouth, before on hand begins tapping on the upper part of her lip while another pair of arms cross themselves. “Yes... I can see that but I think the book tried to refute that as well at some point... I’m still very new at this whole scholar thing myself.”
>>
[3/4]

“Would you like to continue this conversation over a cup of tea? I take quite a bit of pride in my tea." you ask inviting her.

“Of course, I’d be delighted to have some tea over an exchange of ideas.” The Wrath Demon says offering one of her hands. “My name is Nalika Tamboli.”

“Brooklyn Browning.” you reply with a smile.

“Wilhelmina Gottschalk.” Wilhelmina replies, still in her child form as you being to head back.

******

“Come on into the trailer. Pardon if it’s a bit cold. We’ve yet to find suitable permanent residence here.” you say opening the door to the royal trailer.

“The cold doesn’t really bother me that much.” Nalika says sitting down at the table.

“So you said you’re new at being a Scholar? How new are you?” you ask.

“In Vindloon years I am six, but in terms of Earth years that would make me 18.” Nalika replies. “I finished the ‘school’ like most other Wrath demons, which is just basically a public dojo with most of the spirituality ripped out of it. After I graduated and performed the coming of age test at 15, I did what most other Ashuran’s did and went on some mercenary work to explore the world. While I did enjoy the exploration and the money, I was... unfulfilled in a way. It wasn’t until I sat in on a lecture in basic metaphysical laws of the universe that I actually felt I learned something more in one sitting than I ever had in my 18 years of life. So I simply decided that I wanted to become a Scholar.”
>>
[4/4]

“Question, just like that.” Wilhelmina asks.

“Just like that. Dad wasn’t too happy about my choice though.” Nalika replies. “...You also know that you no longer need to stay in that form right?”

“I think it makes me look cute.” Wilhelmina replies.

“...Do you Succubi always change form when it suits your whim?” Nalika asks.

“Pretty much.” Wilhelmina replies.

"You do have to admit, she looks absolutely adorable.

If you're able to change your form to match your whims you tend to do it. Hasn't everyone wondered what they'd look like if they were taller, or had longer hair or a more curvy figure?

How long have you been in Old T.O.? Do you like it here so far?"

“You do have to admit, she looks absolutely adorable.” you say as you begin to warm up a fire. “If you're able to change your form to match your whims you tend to do it. Hasn't everyone wondered what they'd look like if they were taller, or had longer hair or a more curvy figure?”

“I’m mostly comfortable with my body and long hair only serves to have it yanked in battle.” Nalika says before pausing for a second, looking down at herself and cupping her breasts which appear to be easily covered with her hands through her silk top. “...Though in all honesty I do wish I was a bit taller for the tactical side of things and possibly having slightly bigger breasts.”

“Just like what every Laminian wants.” Wilhelmina replies. You know for certain that this was a joke at them.

“How long have you been in Old TO?” you ask pouring the kettle up with some water via water control.

“For Earth, roughly two years. Most of my experience originally was fighting Celestia forces in Europe or Fey incursions within Hawaii. Currently I’m employed as a bouncer for a club downtown, but I’m looking for a new job. I really dislike how for nearly every club they treat having a Wrath Demon bouncer as a status symbol.” Nalika replies.

“Do you like it here so far?" you ask as you begin to boil the water.

“Very much so. Quite peaceful compared to what I’m normally used to. You don’t need to worry about getting into a random fight when walking down the roads, compared to back home or in warzones. Lately I’ve even tried to solve my conflicts via non-physical mediums as well.” Nalika replies. "I really dislike it when I get random challenges from nowhere, or the stereotype my race has being feared so much. Makes it hard to have a decent conversation."

"I'm glad we met each-other down there. I think I'll have to thank the thieves down there.

By the way, your idea of a social compact isn't incorrect, it's just that there is a difference between a compact between people, and the compact of the government.

A government is a power structure, and while it can act as a proxy organization, the concentration of power there makes it more likely that any compact they administer is converted into a person-to-government compact. While this can have a variety of reasons for the change: corruption, ease of administering their duties, a lack of understand of the role the government plays; it will usually result from a decaying culture."

Why is a girl playing let alone the DM
>>
>>27052449
we have a pretty much unlimited budget as long as we can reasonably explain it, say one is a bodyguard with magically connections and the other is an assistant

Fort Hope hasn't had a royal mage since the late lord Langy came into power, so no one knows how they should do things, we've essentially got a blank checque with a note to be cautious
>>
>>27052494
I didn't mean just money, can we afford to take the risk of hiring demons that are basically unknowns that know we're a demon when we need to play human
>>
>>27052490
"Finally, people need to have an open enough mind to see the world as it is, not as they assume or want it to be. They also need a group of peers who will show them when they have grown to assume incorrect things, or grow over-attached to ideas, habits, or beliefs. They also need to see why such a change will benefit them.

In short, raising an ethical person is far more challenging then raising a moral one."
>>
>>27052571
she seems smart enough to be savvy around those issues, and on the fringes of the demon hierarchy so rank or class/clan won't cause drama, hell if anything, it may add plausibility to us, having a demon around to cover for things instead of 'lowly' mortals
>>
>>27052622
now I know she's scholar, but Wrath Demon is going to throw some things into doubt do to their rep and the fact that they don't magic just like the belakans
>>
>>27052598
"Oh, and I almost forgot. This also explains 'good' and 'evil'. Those who have not experienced or do no understand or care for the compact have no reason to uphold it, and seeing others as either in their position, or fearing a lack of a compact, they will endlessly attempt to defend themselves, both consciously and unconsciously."

“I can see it being hard trying to live out a normal life when you’re constantly challenged to fights all the time.” you say to her as you try to transform into a Wrath demon yourself. It’s a bit tricky, and the new arms certainly do feel jarring, but you manage to pull it off at least.

“Yes, it becomes very grating after a while. Many Ashurans develop Irritable Heart syndrome quite early in their lives and often never get over it. I’m aiming not to develop such a thing.” Nalika replies to you.

You’re actually still quite amazed that you can grow extra arms, but the tricky part comes with actually trying to move them. “...Huh? Why aren’t they working?” you ask as you try to use the extra arms.

“Question, never shapeshifted with extra arms before. That takes a lot of practice.” Wilhelmina asks you.

“It takes years for us to get used to it. You won’t be able to do in a single afternoon.” Nalika replies.

“Hm... More difficult than I thought.” you say putting the arms away. “Fair warning Mina, a Belkarian, may be around. She might be interested in sparring, and as many good qualities as she has she isn't the most philosophical sort.”

“Noted. I’ll most likely politely refuse. I don’t feel like fighting today.” Nalika says.

“I thought Ashuran’s enjoyed fighting.” Wilhelmina asks.

Nalika gives a small sigh. “Fine. I admit that for when Ashurans fight our body does release more endorphins than usual amongst other species. That and combined with the aspect that we actually gather aether when fighting even in normal spars leads to us fighting quite a bit yes.”

“So does fighting feel good to you? I’m not judging you, I’m just curious.” you ask checking the tea water.
>>
[2/3]

Nalika sighs, trying to think of a term while lost in thought. “It’s mainly a big rush, that’s what I can best describe it as. Personally I’m still trying to figure out what psychological reason we have to consider such a thing, which is difficult as most Ashuran’s don’t actually question such a thing. There have been some interesting work done by the Sloth demons with theories of pack aggression and such, in addition to some other ‘theories’ that we get sexual excitement from it.”

“Freud you were wrong in so many ways...” you mutter to yourself.

“One of the things I’d like to discover is why we often feel this way when we fight or physically exert ourselves. From a perspective that is from within our own species.” Nalika says.

“Question. Is such material really so rare for your kind.” Wilhelmina asks.

“There are publications as I said, even within my own species, but they’re quite rare. Many of it ties into spirituality and harmony of our souls. The Sloth demons proved there was some sort of chemical connection. I’m mainly trying to look for the conditions of when we feel excited, what the triggers are, and why such a thing happens.” Nalika says.
>>
[3/3]

“That’s a very lofty and honorable goal Nalika.” you say complimenting her.

“Thank you. I figured it’d be an honorable goal, but I’d have no idea where to start. I’d apply for the Miyian University downtown, but they’re within their own little clique and everything that comes out of their mouths seems completely alien to me, the human run college has Celestia running it so I’d be rejected on principle, and the Okarian library downtown is locked to Okarians only.” Nalika says.

“Yea. They’re really strict about the library.” Wilhelmina replies.

“So basically I have no idea where to go or what to do. I bought some math, science, philosophy, and metaphysics books in the market. But I can’t tell if it’s my English not being developed enough to understand the material or if it’s something way way over my head.” Nalika replies. "Another thing I fear is if I am actually understanding and learning the material or I'm just displaying data without actually understanding what it means."
