You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to be RATHER unpleasant.

After your first day on the job, you are finally free for the night. The first order of business was to head down to the kitchen and get something to eat. While waiting for your food, you met Nicolette, a captain of the Royal Guard. Though not the most proper girl, she seems to be friendly.

>Guard Rank: LIZARD
>Congratulations, you are a pitiful lizard! One step above an Ant, at least you're considered a vertebrate now!
>Don't assume that she likes you now though, because she doesn't.
>And you're still not seen as an actual person.
>>
You had planned on working out after you finished your business for the night, and it would be helpful to have a sparring partner. And even better, she uses a weapon that you haven't come up against in a while!

"Hey, Nicolette," you begin. "Would you mind joining me for a round of sparring later? I meant to head to the library after I get done eating, but after that I'll be free."
"Sounds like fun, but my nights are booked. Maybe some other time, though," she replies. "You think that broadening your literary horizons will get you on Marianne's good side? How bold of you!"
"What? No, it's not like that-" you stammer, as Nicolette bursts out into laughter.
"Just messing with you, man."

As you continue talking, the middle-aged maid approaches the table that the two of you are sitting at with a large plate, placing it in front of you.

"Sorry for the wait, but here you go! It's the head chef's speialty, spaghetti!" she says with a wide grin.

You're a bit disappointed that it's not DELICIOUS TURKEY LEGS, but food is food and this looks especially tasty.

I think it is now the time for fondling.

Incidentally, while I like the quests because Archy is competent and rolls with (and for) the punches, I feel like Tsun Princess is kind of overdone. How come there's never a smart, quiet prince who's mistrustful of us because he thinks we're working as a spy for his father?
>>
I meant to get this thread started a few hours ago, but real life conspires against me as always.

This will be a short one, since I have a pretty hard timelimit of 11PM. Might be able to go over by twenty mniutes or so depending on how far the quest progresses, but I need to be up at 5AM tomorrow no matter what.

As tempted as you are to CONSUME the delicious-smelling food that sits before you, but your curiosity overrides your hunger.

"Hey Nicolette."
"Hm?" she replies just as she sticks her fork back into her food.
"You said that you were busy tonight? I'm not trying to be nosy, but..."
"Heh, you're disappointed in missing the chance to spend more time with a maiden as fair as me?" she says while smiling slyly. "Or maybe your getting itchy for a fight after having to put up with Marianne all day?"
"It's nothing like that."
"Heh, just messing with you. I have errands, family stuff, personal stuff, that kind of thing. Nothing too major, but it is time-consuming." she says as she resumes eating.

You take that as your cue to start in on your dinner, and it is every bit as delicious as it looks. Fortunately, there isn't anyone else around to criticize your poor manners.

Halfway through your plate of spaghetti, something comes to mind. After gulping down some water to clear your throat, you turn to Nicolette, who has just finished eating.

"Hey, Does the Princess have any friends or rivals or anything like that?" you ask. As awful as she seems to be, you've known people far worse than her who somehow managed to have tons of close friends.
"Friends? Marianne?" Nicolette stares at you in disbelief. "Yeah, she doesn't get along very well with people her own age. Or any age."
"That's a shame, though I guess it's not too hard to believe."
"The closest thing you'd get to one is me, and that's only a forced association. I can't fucking stand her, if you hadn't already noticed," she says, clearly annoyed. "Oh yeah. There's that one princess from Marconetti, I forget her name. They get on alright, I guess. Haven't seen her in a while though."

Letting out a sigh, Nicolette stands up and stretches.

"Well, off to go do stuff," she says as she cracks her neck.

That looks painful...

"Nice meeting you, Reinhold!"

With that, she waves goodbye and leaves you to your meal.

It doesn't last long.

So we've got a friend. Check. We know she respects her father -the King, and the Legendary Lord Vincent?. Her bad attitude may have something to do with her isolation or the absence of her mother. Its a good thing that we can read.

There must something about the first ten years of this king's reign. It is also the period that we can pinpoint when she died or disappeared and what the political situation was. Better to learn through research than the hard way.

Then we train like we usually do. Training will help us clear our mind and think up a new training regime that fits our new role.

Your food done, you thank the kitchen staff and maids and head off to your next destination, the library.

Well, one of them.

It takes a while but Arnaud's tour really did help, and you make it there without getting lost. You make a mental note to thank him the next time you see him.

And here it is. The Library. You've never seen so many books in one place before, and it's kind of overwhelming. Especially since you just realized that you have no idea where the castle plans that you wanted are supposed to be.

"Good evening, sir. How may I be of assistance?" you hear a voice coming from ahead of you.
"Wha-" you blurt out as you jump back and prepare to draw your sword.

Then you see who you assume to be the owner of said voice seemingly materialize out of the shadows.

What the HELL. You didn't sense anyone else in this place until he spoke, and you are QUITE sure of your perceptive ability.

"Ah, I am sorry if I startled you. Sir Gregory is always telling me that I shouldn't surprise people like that, but it's not like I mean to do so..." he says with a bow.

>how do you respond?

The castle plans for one, I'd like to know all the various ins and outs of this place, knowing where threats can come from would be a great comfort to me. Also, some books for personal reading, happy ones with adventure and heroes, that sort of thing."

Say this >>27131337

Regaining your composure, you resume a relaxed posture and face the butler.

"It's alright. I was pretty sure there was no one there before you appeared though, how did you do that?" you ask.
"How did I..." the butler seems a bit puzzled. "...ah. Just like Sir Gregory..." he says with a sigh. "I apologize if I caused you to get the wrong idea, but all I did was approach you when I noticed that you had entered the room. I was taught that the help should be unnoticed until they are needed, and I took that lesson to heart."

So that was... natural? Learned? What?

You really wish that you knew how he did that, but he doesn't seem to want to tell... you decide to let it slide and get back to matters.

"I'm Reinhold, Princess Marianne's new bodyguard," you say while giving a slight bow. "And you are?"
"Ah, so YOU'RE her new... I see! Such a lovely girl, I was worried when the previous bodyguard quit so suddenly," he says with a concered expression. "As for me, I am Gerhard. I have several responsibilities here at the castle, but I suppose you could say that I am currently the Royal Librarian."

Saber wasn't normal, though. She had dragon blood, part of the benefit of that included a stupid amount of curcuits IIRC, and a magical sword, along with a magic sheath from another dimension. ...and then you realize what you just said. Maybe Nicolette's casual mocking of Princess Marianne kind of rubbed off on you? You make a mental note to be more careful about that in the future.

"Er, forget about that last thing," you say while laughing nervously.
"So that's all? A simple request, I shall get right on it."

With that, Gerhard turns around a bookshelf, and... disappears. You can no longer feel his presence, and you don't hear any footsteps either, it's extremely unsettling.

>>27133213
There are two kinds of claymores. The basket hilted kind like you have pictured, and the two handed longsword. There is some debate over the proper usage of the term, but it even got into the Encyclopedia Britannica as both sorts.
>>
Dragon Slayer

Just do it. When was the last time tg got to play with giant swords...never.

Besides, it will intiminate anyone.

I'll take your word for it then.

>Curved blades are better for dueling. That reminds me. We should turn our room into a small armory. How are we with the throwing dagger or the short-sword. Dual wielding for the win. I say nay for the giant swords
>>
>>27133287
There are a lot of different swords with basket hilts. The Scots don't have a fucking monopoly on them.

It is not a broadsword, a claymore, a schiavona, a mortuary sword, or a walloon sword.

It's a basket hilted sabre, that is obviously a fucking saber, not a claymore.

You REALLY want to ask Gerhard how the hell he does that disappearing thing, but it's getting late.

"Thanks for your help," you say to him with a nod.
"Any time, Master Reinhold," he replies as he gives yet another bow.

With that, you head to your room, books and map in tow. They're heavy but not overly so, and you have little trouble carrying everything back to your room.

Though you did have to figure out how to turn your doorknob with your foot. That wasn't fun.

Dropping everything onto your desk, you let out a long sigh. It's been a long day, and you're getting tired... you took longer in the kitchen and library than you anticipated, but you have a little bit of time before you head to bed.

>you have enough time to do one thing

i think we barely had enough money to build even the simplest kind of sword, so we probably just have a generic, boring longsword

staying fit is not an option, it has to be done.
BUT.. did we get a small bath room with our bed room? we should get a quick bath before we go to sleep so we don't smell too funky later after the work out?
>>
>>27133357
I did hear from a well reputed trip fag who posted it that scots don't typically make them, and it was just a modern imaginment/reproduction

the tripfatg was some medieval weapon-fag who frequent's /k/ more often then not. 3 letters in caps.

>>27133409
dude, the dragonslayer is likely a plot unlock to get THAT monster. stick to a basic sword and MASTER that, then move onto other weapons.
>>
>>27133469
We'll burn that bridge when we come to it. We're a master of the Dragonslayer.
>>
>>27133409
Dragonslayer is pointlessly unwieldy, to the point where a normal man probably could barely lift it. It's a monstrous slab of metal with no real finesse or skill, whose only purpose is brutalizing as many things as possible. I approve. However, there will probably be some political intrigue just after we get settled in and war gets declared while the princess is away from home with only her specifically sanctioned guard, which will consist of us and a couple faceless mooks, so it'll be a while before we can probably get it.
>>
It's getting late, and you're not really in the mood for reading just now so you decide to work out before you go to bed. Need to stay fit, after all.

Strength exercises, some sword forms, the usual. Sparring with Nicolette would have been nice, but this is better than nothing.

After an hour, you finally give in to the urge to sleep, and pass out the second you hit the bed.

That's it for me, I need to head to Gamestop now because I am an idiot who plans things extremely poorly.

Go ahead and ask questions or plan your actions or whatever. I'll see them in the archive later if I'm not able to reply tonight.

Next thread is Wednesday, I'll do my best to keep the 5-6ish time that I would LIKE to do these threads.

Thanks for playing, you guys are great!

The entire first half of >>27133498 is pointing out the negatives of the Dragonslayer. He probably just missed the 'I approve', or assumed it was a typo.

>Dragonslayer
It was already stated that Reinhold used a more agile, lower-armored method of fighting back in thread one. Dragging around a hundred plus pounds of metal is stupid as hell anyway regardless of the presence of magic.
>>
Seriously, cant we just enjoy it? Why people be so anal about it. A commoner orpham winning a tournament and becoming the princess guard is as likely as wielding a giant swordor using magic.
>>
Never read this before but it looks interesting, is there archived threads I could get a link to?
>>
>>27134005

Not really. Assuming one could lower the carrying weight for the user enough it could be useful. Try taking a shot in plated armor from 100+ Pounds of pure steel.

Be really damn useless in hallways though so I wouldn't recommend doing this.

Back from Gamestop, my prize in tow. I'll probably regret losing sleep for the midnight pickup of a game that I won't even be able to play until Wednesday, but fuck making sense.

>>27133616
That certainly is an idea.

As for Reinhold's sword, it's your typical broadsword. It's better crafted than one would expect from someone of his background, and he's rather fond of it.

As to where it came from, that is for the plot.

His fighting style is more finesse-based, going all Gutsmode isn't really his thing.

And now I get some sleep.
