Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You've spent the past two days on Xile, the kingdom of Aeolus. The floating island is surrounded by the massive skysever spell, and you're stuck until you can find some form of protection for yourself and your allies.

In the short time you've been there, you were assaulted by a shadowy abomination that could vaporize water, attacked by the largest dragon you've ever seen, and spent the night sprinting away from terrible creatures lingering in a living black fog. At the end of it all, your party was exhuasted, and you spent a day in recovery.

You avoided an immediate confrontation, but Lucifer and his handful of angels are still somewhere on the island.

After weathering through the night and allowing your party to recover to a safe strength, you journeyed toward Aeolus's palace. The gargantuan castle was silent, and, suspicious of traps, you stuck to the main hallways, relying on Sir Flint's ancestry to open magical doors for you.

In the throne room, you met an intimidating construct holding the Staff of Winds, the reason you journeyed to Xile in the first place. It took Flint as a knight of Aeolus's Order, and communicated that it would relinquish the staff, but only after being defeated. It claimed Flint could use any means nessecary to do so, but after hearing Adavan's negative prediction on the outcome of a battle, you decided to back down and search for a way to counter the staff before attacking the construct.

He theorized that the Moonsong, and ancient weapon created by Erebus, might be able to do just that. You've been collecting the shards of that sword along your journey, and, from a diary you viewed earlier, concluded that the shards were used by the Black Hand to catalyze the terrible magic that still lingers in Xile. Auriel balked at the prospect of repairing the Moonsong, but eventually gave in on the condition that, after using it to supress the Staff of Winds, you would destroy it. You agreed to do so, but privately decided that you'd cross the bridge when you got there.

You then found Aeolus's legendary treasure room in the bottom of the palace, completely unguarded. The party split up to investigate the golden horde.

You briefly spoke with Abigail, but she had an unfortunate reaction to the succubus reagents you've been keeping on your person.

Your satchel snags on a shelf and unclips from your waist. It plops to the ground.

It's rather funny, actually. It's been through battles against angels, struggles against robots, your time in Archon, and even through the skysever itself, and it's never ever come off.

You start to pick it up -

"Oh, I've got it." Abigail bends down and picks up your satchel, holding at her waste. She glances up at you and smiles. "I'm glad we got to talk, Shadow. Um..." She sighs, but it's a happy, content sort of sound. "I feel like there's all this...stuff..." She waves a hand around her head. "No one knows about. I feel like I can't talk about it. Sometimes...it really pushes down on me. Like it's too much. I just want life to be simple."

<...I know what you mean.>

Abigail steps closer to you, still smiling. "I know you do. You know exactly what I mean, more than anyone. I'm glad...that we have that." She glances down. "Maybe, when we get back home, when Sir Flint is better, we could take some...well, some time, and..."

She trails off. She's looking at the satchel.

<Abby?>

"Summoning reagents?" She pokes one of the smaller side pockets holding a bottle. "You could just ask me, you know..." She smiles. "Wonder what you wanted."

<Uh, Abby, actually - >

"Let's see, Therm Root. That's usually fire related."

<Why don't you just - >

"And lilac. Thorns from a rose. A frog's - " She stops.

Her eyes widen.

Her face blushes so red it's nearly purple.

"...oh."

<Uh...I can explain.>

"I - I...d-didn't realize you...even l-liked women that way. I g-guess...from the visions...I-I should, but..." She holds the satchel away from herself, out toward you, her eyes averted.

You take the satchel. You try to cobble an explanation together in your head, but the words won't come. You decide to try and change the subject. <Um...about what you were saying before, after this...>

Abigail's voice breaks into a high-pitched squeek. "I'm g-gonna find Sir Flint!" She scampers off through the piles of treasure.

Well. That could have gone better.

She's not going to bring up the succcubus stuff with Flint. Just do the impressions of meeting Xella, her being able to see the parasite when nobody else could, saying she might be able to fix it, her saying to kill Auriel, and then us trying to banish her and she morphs into Dave.

And yes the greentext sounds like a good plan.

Just throwing this out there, specifically woke up in the middle of the night for this. As an idea.

Legion! Dave! Do you remember your men? The Black Hand? Things happened after your unfortunate banishment. The Second betrayed your troops, he bound them to suffer forever with a fragment of a powerful sword. Your sword, the Moonsong.
I will allow no such horrors happen to people any longer.
The fighting has to be put to an end, and the Chaos restrained. Are you still someone I can trust?

Auriel will of course object to us summoning Dave, but she can't really stop us. Of course we don't tell this, but instead assure her that he should remember us. She'll likely think we're refering to the unsummon critfail / Michael episodes, but we know better.
>>
>>27170922
Good thing we're following at a distance then.

Besides, Flint's a bro. I think, at the least, his concern for Abby would override revenge against us. I don't think he even sees her as an adult yet, himself.

So after someone mentioned that Moonsong being broken might be related to David being stuck in the Nether I looked up when we first unlocked the Summoning tree for something I remembered:

>A thought strikes you. You withdraw the shard of the sword from the purse...

>...it's warm in your hand from the power. You walk toward the circle.

>...the sword's humming increases. You frown, and step over the circle.

>A part of the circle flashes. The rest vanishes.

>A dark sphere appears in the air over the stone platform.

>Something's coming.

>There's a flash of purple light...

>...the dark sphere vanishes...but something is left behind. A small, dark mote. Darkness, floating, moving on its own...darkness that isn't a part of you.

Our Moonsong shard resonated with the summoning circle or portal to the nether that Abby's dad made and that's what unlocked our Summoning tree. Considering David seems to be very involved with the Demons, this seems to be strong evidence that the broken sword is very much related to David being in the Nether. With the shards scattered about in key locations and being re-used by the Black Hand and Erebus' being the one to originally break the thing, it's very possible that this all has to do with Erebus' original plan. This could mean that depending on what happens when we go to collect that shard here on Xile, we may need to prepare for Yandere David round 2.

>Summoning Dave

Are you completely retarded or just mostly? Legion no longer cares about his men, he's just completely yandere. Anything that Shadow says he will interpret as Erebus testing him, and then he'll murder everyone to get his approval.
>>
>>27171024
Hurh.

Well, he isn't the most reliable of sources, and we've heard from Auriel that he broke it fighting hyperion.

Might just be Dave's madness toward Erebus.
>>
>>27170946

This might be a good thing to do when we have the other Elementals (or maybe just Geb and Hecate awake).

Summoning Dave, even with the power of friendship, is liable to be a death sentence.
>>
>>27171080
Speaking of unreliable information,
We should probably ask Yi Fang if he knows anything about Kullia Nesteral, or the supposed Archon Group that got Kan-Abar to summon demons that Obis mentioned.
>>
>>27171080
Considering no one even knew Erebus had a plan to kill everyone I'm inclined to believe the guy directly involved with it then something from a person who only heard about it.

Oh, and, uh, before we get him the staff, if we can.
>>
A thought: Let's take the Staff of Winds and stick it together with the Moonsong.

It will either be hilariously OP or destroy them both!
>>
>>27171121
I'm not inclined to believe anything Dave says, and the "end it all" thing is Temerity's interpretation of "order", which it admits isn't actual memory.

No-One reachable has firsthand information on what Erebus's true motives were, especially not ourselves.

>>27171168
Are people just suggesting stupid things because they are bored?
>>
You quickly consume the succubus reagents. You don't need them; they're just taking up space. Then you quickly move to follow Abigail - but concerned with her reaction if you just pop up next to her again, you hang back.

She finds Flint examining several suits of armor. They're made of adamantium, like his own, though he seems fascinated by the design. He peers at a crest etched into the breastplates, considering it with a finger on his chin. His thoughts are obviously quite distant.

"Sir Flint!" Abigail skips up to him and puts her hands on her knees, breathless. "Sir Flint. I...I have a question. About something. About Shadow!"

"Is everything ok?"

"Yes, it's just...I wondered - I wanted to know - um..."

Flint folds his arms. "...well?"

"DidShadoweversummonasuccubus?!!"

Flint blinks a bit, then lets his arms drop. "Oh, sure. That was while ago, while we were following you and Adavan through Tarun Gakth."

Abigail's face drains of color.

"He had trouble convincing me, at first, and Auriel really didn't like it much, but it worked out in the end. Well...a bit rough at the end, actually, but we got through it. Why do you ask?"

"I'M GOING TO FIND THE HIGHEST!" Abigail sprints off in a new direction.

Flint stands there, completely bewildered. "...what was that about?"

You have the sinking feeling that she took that completely the wrong way.

You run after Abigail. This is really getting out of hand. You don't want her to get the wrong impression.

Well, she already has the wrong impression. You need to stop it from getting worse.

But Auriel isn't far - she's admiring a large painting. It's a scene of Xile, a landscape, but what's remarkable is that it's almost seven feet tall and twice as wide. The painter must have worked for some time to create it.

"Highest!!"

"Child? What on earth is it?" Abigail runs up to Auriel and clutches at her, spluttering about yourself, Flint, and succubi. Auriel accepts the awkward embrace, glance up at you as you step forward. "Shadow, what is going on?"

"He summoned...Flint and Shadow actually summoned one of those demon...whores!" Abigail shouts.

"...ah."

<Please explain, Auriel. It was for Flint's benefit.>

Auriel opens her mouth - and then her expression falls flat. "Explain why you summoned a succubus."

<Yes.>

>con't
>>
Auriel heaves a sigh. "I was against it, but we believed it would give us information on Flint's parasite. We didn't know that much about it at the time, and any advantage seemed worth the price." She looks at Abigail. "Shadow, well, I wouldn't know. But you didn't think Donovan would do it for no reason, did you?"

"Well...I guess not."

Auriel's eyes glint like cursed sapphires. "But Shadow was another story. He seemed to half-enjoy having her around. Tried to convince her into being more human. I suppose it's lonely, being a Shadow. Who knows what they did together when they went on those long patrols in the dark..."

Abigail's face twists, horrified, and she runs off deeper into the room. Auriel laughs, calling after her. "I was only joking, child! Child!" She lets her hands drop and chuckles. "Oh well. It'll come out in the wash."

<...why...why, Auriel?>

"It's about time you had that fat head of yours deflated a bit," she says. When she sees the betrayed look on your face, she rolls her eyes and waves a vague hand at you. "I'll go explain, alright? Go make yourself useful and see to it that the thief doesn't do anything stupid." She waltzes after Abigail, the annoying smile still coating her face.

You sigh, and leave her to it.

You find Vonnegut in front of a pile of gold coins. He's digging through them, though...

He stops, picks out a ruby, and sticks in one of his coat's many hidden pockets. You notice it's already stuffed with more colorful stones. Apparently he has a good eye for valuables. Makes sense.

He turns, and glances over a small shelf filled with rings and tiaras. You can feel magic in one of the rings. A large crown with a red velvet top catches his eye. He picks it up, twirls it in his fingers, then removes his hat, holding it in his hand. He places the crown on his head and glances in a mirror half-buried in the gold, examining his new look.

What do you do?

You decide to just watch. Anyone concerned about the theft of this treasure isn't around to care any longer.

He frowns, then replaces the crown on the shelf and his hat on his head, dismissing the new look.

The ring grabs his attention. He peers at it intently, doing his own version of a Focus, you suppose. Apparently finding nothing amiss, he reaches forward.

Vonnegut shakes his hand free of your grip. You let him go. "If you insist. But I'm taking as much of the mundane as I want."

You center yourself in the room and use Deep Focus.

Immediately, you feel the Wind. It's everywhere. Hovering. Waiting. Itching to cut and slice and destroy anything that dares violate its sacred territory. It surrounds the island in a protective shield.

The island itself coated in darkness. It forms a thick, inky layer, surrounding buildings, roiling over the soil. You can feel the souls inside of it. Searching. Hunting for weaknesses. Hungering for living things to consume.

The weight of the magic obscures your focus; it's tough to sense anything through it. But you suspect it also obscures your own position from being telegraphed too obviously.

Below the island, the darkness grows thick. It's hard to pinpoint anything, but if the spell has a core, it's probably there.

But something else demands your attention. At the very core of the dark underbelly is a ball of wind, fierce, angry, and terrible. If you condensed all the pain and hatred and torture you felt from the skysever to a single point, it would be this thing, twisting, burning against the dark.

What is it?

You decide Adavan might be able to provide some insight.

You walk over and find Adavan sitting in a plush chair. It's upholstered in teal-dyed velvet, and inlaid with gold - a chair fit for the highest nobles. But he's slumped low, his face held in both hands, features deep in thought.

<Adavan.>

He glances up. "Shadow."

<Something on your mind?>

Adavan sighs, nods. "Hecate. I'm...happy to help Sir Flint. I believe...he will return the favor. And..." Adavan tilts his head to and fro, as if deciding something. "...we aren't friends...but we aren't just acquaintances, either. We built something while we were in Archon, sparring, talking. He's a good man. He has my respect."

>>
<I see. But...?>

"We're sidetracked up here," Adavan admits. "I help Flint because this helps you, and you'll help me unseal the goddess. That must be my next goal. Whether or not you accompany me, I've got to make some kind of progress. I've recovered almost completely...that's no longer an excuse. I've spent too much time running about this new world."

<I see. It is a priority, Adavan. I believe Sir Flint will aid us in that quest.>

"...is it?" he asks. "Kelvere is decimated. Arland is on the brink of total war. Whether he likes it or not, Flint will be needed there, both to cure himself and to lead his people. I've gathered that he fears his past, his family. He sees himself as a failure. But he can no longer keep running from his past. Are you going to leave him to it and run off with me?"

<What you say is true,> you admit. <I still have business with Sir Flint. If you feel you have to strike out on your own, that's your business, but the demons must be dealt with. It is no good to revive Hecate if it costs so much innocent life.>

"You see, that's the thing," Adavan says. "A glorious return it would be if Hecate rose to the defense of humanity. Defying ancient prejudice. The Spirit Goddess rising to corral and subdue creations of the nether run amok. If we are end that war - which I believe never truly ended, it was only put aside - then we must establish a new reputation directly in the hearts of our old enemies." Adavan sighs. "Consider that, at least."

<But do you have any leads? Flint believes his family stewards the Wind key.>

"...true. But you'll be able to secure that anyway. I may consult with the prince, Obis. I suspect his family would know about the Fire key, if anyone."

<I see.>

"If you are Erebus..." Adavan looks at you. "Your true power will be needed. Hecate alone..." He frowns more deeply. Worriedly. "Something has changed. Magic is stronger than it was during the Elementomachy, as hard as that seems to believe."

<What do you mean?>

Adavan shrugs. "...I'm not really sure. In my time, the Elementals had a monopoly on great feats. I had thought this world would be a shattered ruin, even after 700 years. But it's stronger. They haven't recovered the lost technologies, but the sheer power...greats like Fang, the other Councilors, Sandalphon and his angels...and from what I hear, the Black Lady and her generals - they are highly unusual. Sandalphon, in particular, seems stronger than I remember. Maybe that's just 700 years experience...but..." Adavan looks at you. "There are more mages in general, too. At least three times in number. Chaos is growing. It is effecting the human race. If you are Order...what does that mean?"

<...I don't know. I will keep what you've said in mind.>

Adavan nods, then leans down again, thinking.

You find Ila at her assigned task - watching Vonnegut. She's taken a hidden position on a high walkway overlooking the mounds of treasure his grubby hands are shifting about.

<Ila.>

"Shadow." Unlike most, she doesn't seem surprised by your sudden appearance.

<How are things?>

"...I'm fine. Your concern is appreciated."

You follow her gaze. She isn't watching Vonnegut, but looking across the room at Auriel and Abigail. The former angel is patting the girl on the back, and you're a bit too far to hear, but she seems to be having a good laugh. Abigail looks sheepish.

"...you granted her some of your powers," Ila states.

You will lead us into a darkness that is pure, and whole. I believe this. I believed this because you freed us; you placed yourself between us and harm time and again. You helped build a new home for us. We will not become a second Black Hand, like the angels feared. We will be better than they. When you find Flint, he's drifted a bit from the armor. He's holding a sword of greenish-steel adamantium in his hands. A teal cape is attached to the neck of his armored half-plate, teal, with a bright green symbol on the back. The symbol appears to be wild wind inside of a branched triangle. He's also wearing teal bracers.

It's enchanted - the sword and cape both.

You feel a tinge of fear. He's picked up something with magic!

But nothing seems to be happening - nothing dangerous, anyway.

Flint dances forward. His blade flies downward, impossibly fast. He stops himself, but the sword flies from his hands, clattering to the stone. He grunts, picks it up, and tries again. He slows slightly, and this time he's able to maintain his grip in the follow-through.

<Flint, don't you think that's dangerous?>

Flint turns. "Shadow! Look at this! Haha!" He lifts the cape with a hand an lets it drift back down. "I'm a Knight of the Order, now! Damn, I..." He stops, and his expression fades from a grin to a small smile. "I almost...can't wait to go home."

<Are these things that important?>

Flint nods. "These...legendary treasures. The bracers and sword work together to speed attacks, though..." He rubs his neck. "I'll need to work on that. The cape...uh, well, I don't know what that does, but it feels like magic."

<Auriel did say not to touch anything.>

"I figured if anyone could get away with it, it would be me," Flint says. "Seems to be ok."

<I guess so. Just be careful.>

"I will." Flint frowns. "I'll have to get used to this speed. It's really tough to keep a good grip when my arms move that fast."

Hey, SM. Is it possible to de-power shards during meditation? I ask because waiting around for them to break to use Humanity is pretty inefficient.

Take Silence for instance. It's been sitting at Empowered since before the Archonium arc and will likely stay that way for even longer since our preferred battle tactic is berzerker rage over subtle illusion and Compress and Shadowmeld offer enough of a stealth bonus to not really need to activate the shard very often.

You call out to your friends, gathering them together. Auriel sticks to Abigail's back, ushering her forward. Abigail works very hard not to look directly at you when she thinks you're looking her way.

The awkwardness makes you feel uncomfortable. But you're stuck on a deadly floating island in the center of a magical storm. Business takes precedent.

<We need information,> you say. <Specifically...about dynamos.>

Auriel nods. "That would be something. There has to be a library, somewhere Aeolus could reach. I say we go back up and explore the other way, past the throne room."

<What about deeper into the palace?>

"I have a feeling that'll lead us below," Auriel says. "Probably better not to go down there until it's daytime."

<Agreed.>

You follow Auriel's suggestion, returning to the main hallway on the first floor. You walk in the opposite direction, and Flint opens another huge pair of doors.

Before you stretches a huge room. The roof arches high above, meeting in a stone dome latticed by wooden crossbeams.

It's barren.

Huge shelves line the room, clustered up against a long, wide path shaped for a dragon, but the few books are scattered and torn and ripped, aged by time. The rest of the room is empty. It's the skeleton of a library.

<...what?>

Adavan steps forward, shaking his head. "I was afraid of this. It makes sense, after seeing the treasure untouched. The Order was fighting a battle that was going out of control. They focused on destroying the most valuable thing in the palace so the Hand couldn't touch it."

<...since we're here, might as well see what we can find.>

You explore for some time, but it's a fruitless search. You wander around a bit, eventually moving back to the entrance. You find that Flint hasn't gone far. He's slumped against a shelf.

<Flint? What's wrong?>

Flint sighs. He looks up at you. "...I think the wonder is wearing off, is all. I mean...what kind of a terrible place is this? The Order sacrificed their souls to spite their enemies. They ruined their own library. Aeolus himself put their only hope in the hands of a deranged construct. He couldn't have predicted this, but still...it just feels so wrong. Why did it happen this way?"

<...I suppose war is like that.>

"And this place." He dejectedly lifts a scrap of paper off the floor. "The treasure room was something...but this room, it's - "

He stops. He grabs the shred of paper with both hands and brings it to his face. His eyes dart across the page.

<What?>

"...this is about dynamos!" The group gathers quickly at his shout. "Shadow, I can't read this, but look at the pictures!"

You take the page from him.

The words are faded and the ink muddled with age, but you can read some of it.

<It says...'- housing is the key. Made using crystallized mana mixed with adamantium and a specific alloy of pa - Energy supplied from a mana pool, or an elemental itself. When dipped in a mana pool, the housing - dwarves miniaturized the sky engine in their attempt to copy the technology, giving birth to the dynamo. Aeolus was not happy when their airships - ignoring the benefits of dynamos for the sake of pride is impossible. The housing research facility in the city is - our airships are lighter, faster, capable of outmaneuvering -'...that's all I can read.>

>con't
>>
The text is ripped away after that. The picture shows a translucent sphere with energy trapped within it. Lines are drawn to show it spinning in a clockwise direction. The spherical housing itself has several arrows pointing to it, but the lines lead off the end of the page.

"Well, the dwarves did perfect the dynamos," Auriel says. "That matches the histories. The dwarves stole technology from Xile. Then they perfected it. That's the dynamo. And it's one of the major tipping points that cased the great war."

<What's the sky engine?>

"It's what keeps Xile afloat," she says. "A device created by both Aeolus and his top mages. Should be down below. I doubt it's working, though."

"How is the island floating, then?" Abigail asks.

"It's 700 years old, it's cracked by huge canyons, and it's still sitting up here..." Auriel shrugs. "Hell if I know."

"Still, this is big!" Flint gets back to his feet, re-energized by the discovery. "Maybe we can find more information in the city? It said something about a research facility, right?"

"One thing at a time, Sir Flint," Vonnegut says. "We still haven't found a way off this rock."

"I, for one, am very interested in these housings," Ila says.

"As am I," Auriel agrees. "Haven needs a strategic edge. This could be that edge."

Vonnegut heaves a sigh. "You people are incorrigible."

"Either way, we should wait until dawn," Adavan says. "I'm not going out in the dark in this place."

Abigail yawns. "Could use a good sleep."

Rest for the night. I'd still like to give Flint's cape a once-over, but I guess we'll figure out what it does one way or another. Probably via d20 saving throw.
Check out the city in the morning. If there are people here who don't want to kill us on sight, it would be wonderful.

Skysever confirmed for keeping Xile in the air.
>>
<The city is our next destination.> You glance at Vonnegut. <Besides, if that's where they docked the airships, that's probably where we'll find a way back.>

Vonnegut nods. "Fair enough."

Auriel mentions more than a few elegantly stuffed cushions and couches she saw back in the treasure room. The party decides to spend the night there, as there's only one way in, and it's proven to be relatively safe. There is more than enough for everyone to have their own 'bed', and they use tapestries as blankets.

You analyze Flint's cape...

It lashes out at you! Wind magic sheers at its edge, sharp as a fine razor.

You react quickly, drawing out of range. It settles back down around him. He groans, rolls over, and begins drooling into his pillow. Auriel stirs at the other end of their shared couch, but she doesn't wake.

"Hmm..." Adavan eyes the cape. "Seems to be something meant to provide an automatic defense of one's blind spots. I doubt it likes Shadow very much."

<I can see that.>

You settle in to meditate.

Unfortunately, it doesn't go well. You just aren't able to push any more power into Isolation.

The party wakes, groggy, but somewhat more recovered.

It's less about being afraid of eating it than it is about that people seem to mainly want to eat it to have enough XP to buy Pocket and loot the entire treasury.

We can do that just as well with XP from any other source, and we'd be able to keep this ring in doing so as well.

That said, maybe this ring is just here for us to eat to give us 1 XP so we could do that right now if we wanted, but still.

I liked my suggestion for Xile to fall onto Haven when the Skysever gets destroyed/disabled.

Would be hilarious. Having the new age of light/shadow friendship crushed by the sins of the past.
>>

Getting pocket actually secures a number of other objectives as well.

All the info on dynamos can be safely gathered, and any magic items we don't eat can safely be transported.

Of course, we get to keep the sword shards safe, and when Auriel calls for us to destroy them, we can bluff and pocket them while pretending to eat them.

A lot of setting and setup to get through. I can't have shit hitting the fan all the time.

Well, I could, but it would get exhausting.

Pretty clear consensus for not eating the ring. (votes after 5 mins don't count, as usual, just didn't cut it off)

<...better let sleeping dragons lie,> you say.

You exit the palace, and return to the forest, setting out in the direction of the city. A quick breakfast of saved rabbit meat gets them moving. Auriel spots a few berry bushes, and they have a nice little feast, saving quite a few for later.

It's midday when you reach the city. You stand before it on a small hill, observing the outside edge.

Rising towers form thin, winding alleys. Tiny stone bridges and tunnels soar over gaps, criss-crossing open air in nets like a spiderweb. Some of the structure seems impossible, supported by unknown means. Other parts are show the remains of battle, roofs shredded, rubble strewn in the street, walls pockmarked with holes.

"So," Auriel says. "Where do we start?"

>look for the research center
>scout the city out with Deep Focus

I'm going to end the thread here, I'm getting very tired.

Thanks for the thread, SM.

I'm okay with what happened today, though I kind of feel the events of this thread would have been much more appreciated if there wasn't such a large gap in time between the last one. If it happened, say, the day after all the crazy shit, people would have probably sung a different tune. But hey, you can't just abandon real life responsibilities or the story's continuity to make things move at the right pace for these kinds of things.

They're worth too much for us to just up and eat them, especially after the effort we've gone through to get them.
And I'm not sure if we could convince her about using the sword.

It would be amusing to get to some point in the future where we are all trapped and the "only thing that can save us" is the unmaking power of the sword, assumed gone.
Then we grin like a smug bastard and pull it out of nothing.

Erasure does the same thing Moonsong does, and we don't have to worry about David-related bullshit or it falling in the wrong hands with that.

Yeah, 10 exp, but who gives a shit. If it really came down to us needing to erase something from existence to win, it'd probably be some end-game shit anyway.
>>
>>27175088
Shit. Maybe a little...
T/W/R is a hard series for me. Got twelve hours of class on T and R, and three labs on W.
There is not sleep to be had here.
>>
Panicky Abby was my favorite part. Character development is good!

Honestly, I just like flustering women. It's great fun.
>>
>>27175097
Falling into the wrong hands wouldn't be a problem with pocket, and with it being something we've assembled over the course of the whole story, it would be narritively cheap to have simply assembling it screw us over.
>>
>>27175158
>Honestly, I just like flustering women. It's great fun.
It pretty much defines my relationship with all my female friends.
>>
>>27175179
You're forgetting the shit ton of exp we'd get from eating it. A bunch of new powers sounds like a better deal to me then just a single power we already have that we can't even use often because we're hiding it from everyone.
>>
Really I don't see any problem with returning the Moonsong to it's former glory. Sure, Auriel doesn't exactly like it thanks to being on the receiving end many years ago, but the same can be said about the staff of winds and how Adavan doesn't exactly have fond memories of it. We just need to keep the moonsong on us at all times which would limit it getting into the wrong hands.
>>
>>27175222
Then what's the fucking point of keeping it? We don't need or want a weapon because we already are one and we already have the power the sword has ourselves. If we kept the sword it would best be used by someone else; not hidden away by us.

We either convince Auriel to at least not immediately destroy the damn thing or just fucking eat it, since a significant power boost is much more reliable than a sword we may never actually use.
>>
>>27175222
>keep moonsong in our Pocket
>point blank stab people in the face with the Erasure sword while grappling
>>
Let's see
We could accidentally skysever with moonsong.
We could accidentally anyone with moonsong.
Anyone could accidentally or intentionally anything with moonsong.
We could eat it for experience.
We could give it to someone and trust them to not go insane/corrupt/stab us/stab someone.
We're still uncertain why we threw dave/david(I can't remember the name) into the nether. Maybe he went insane due to moonsongs influence?

Anyway, if all things go well we'll end up with staff of the winds and moonsong, each one strong enough to remove a nation from existence. Not to mention being capable of catalysing magics on the level of that shadow monstrosity and skysever.

Food for thought. pls I'm hungry
>>
>>27175222
I'm on the fence about giving it to Failagail now. She might lose it, or roll more 1's and erase herself or something.
>>
>>27175270
Because it's a free Erasure attack every time we swing it?

Shit, we should make a dozen of them so we can go Shiva and erase fucking everything.
>>
>>27175294
We don't go using Erasure all the time because it's fucking dangerous.

Seriously, do you honestly want to roll a 1d100 to swing that thing and hope nothing fucks up because of /tg/ dice?
>>
>>27175198
So long as we aren't right next to auriel, the only reason we wouldn't be using it is if we wanted to eat someone.

Assembling moonsong is practically an "I win" for most situations.
Probably not against things like Sandalphon or the Lady, but it would go a long ways toward closing the gap.

That and, to reiterate, eating something that has been a goal from the beginning seems like just wasted effort.

>>27175270
Our equivelent of it in our power costs EXP.

>>27175283
>Don't get fear it will make our allies run away
But seriously though, unless we are flailing it around like a moron, we aren't going to accidentally anything.

And Dave's insanity was a symptom of his desire for attention from Erebus.
>>
>>27175283
By
>We could accidentally skysever with moonsong.
I meant that we could remove staff from the existence, and skysever with it, making xile fall on haven, killing everyone, plunging the world into chaos due to free flying and unleashing shadow monstrosity.
>>
>>27175326
I'd rather give it to Abby or Ila.
Not sure which, though. Abby scares me because she's bad at rolling, and Ila still gives me creepy obsession vibes even though those fears are probably groundless

We could servant Auriel and give it to her. That would amuse me greatly.
Plus she gets her wings back.
>>
>>27175341
And how sure can you be of dave/davids insanity being caused by his need for attention.
So far moonsong seems pretty fucking evil.
And remember- TG dice.
>>
>>27175270
Think of it as a secret super weapon to be used when it is needed. We aren't always going to have the exp amount required to use erasure so having something that can do it at will would be a great boon.

It's always nice to have an few aces up your sleeves.
>>
>>27175341
>the only reason we wouldn't be using it is if we wanted to eat someone.
Tell me, when do we NOT want to eat someone? Specifically, if an opponent was magically powerful enough to consider using Moonsong/Erasure on would /tg/ really pass up on trying to eat the fucker for more power?
>>
>>27175365
Good thing Shadow Master isn't a shit.
>>
>>27175408
True enough. He did mention that this kind of thing wouldn't fuck us over, not instantly anyway.
>>
>>27175393
When we really can't eat them, or if eating them would be too much trouble.

Also, breaking barriers is another thing it would be damn useful for.

My point is, it's a plot artifact with one really strong central power and countless derivative powers (black hand's experiments for one).

Hell, maybe the sword would let us consume -through- it, we saw a shard of it used to steal souls in the recording.
>>
>>27175358
Well if we "had" to give it to someone I would say Ila as I think she would put it to better use than Abby would. That being said we would most likely keep it until we thought it was necessary to use it and either A) use it ourselves or entrust it to one of them (Still leaning toward Ila as she is more...competent with weapons I feel)
>>
>>27175444
Abby has eight years of sword training. Ila uses punching daggers. I'm not even sure Ila actually knows swordsmanship at all.

What could possibly go wrong.
>>
>>27175471
Abby has eight years of what "might" be considered sword training, but my thinking is that Ila is already pretty stealthy without us making her a servant and once that happens she will be even better at it.

Stealth+Erasure sword= instant kill.
>>
Does /tg/ appreciate drawfaggotry of all kinds, or should I not bother if I'm mediocre?
>>
>>27175565
Odds are I've seen worse.
Much worse.
>>
>>27175565
Have you seen what this series has come up with drawing wise? Go and draw to your hearts content!
>>
>>27175489
I've never seen anything that shows her as incompetent in sword skills. Two reapers dying from a super dragon and a banshee messing up a control panel don't really make her out to be terrible, either. Especially when that Banshee fucked up a lot of Angels and she did real well with her reapers before entering the airship.

Saying those sword skills are pretend are like saying she aged 11 pretend years. If you don't want to give Abby the sword, that's fine, but don't justify it with dice superstition.
>>
>bigass enemy way off
>rousing speech on honor, duty, sacrifice
>meanwhile, we place moonsong on a ballista
>THWUNK
>instant kill
>>
You know, maybe we could actually assemble the sword, test it on some random monster on Xile, then pass judgement on it.

We know of only two powers of it, an erasure like skill that may or may not be as powerful, and a soul-stealing power that may or may not combo with our consuming.

Given that the Black Hand was able to make things from the pieces of the blade, it's entirely possible that we would be able to draw even more powers from the whole blade.
Like, as a wild guess, cheaper or even free antimagic.
>>
>>27175594
While I'm not necessarily going to disagree with your overall point, the comparison to her aging is poor.
Eleven years is eleven years.
Eight years spent teaching yourself swordsmanship through a proxy created by your own mind does not guarantee that you've actually learned anything useful about swordsmanship.
>>
>>27175640
Than I guess she didn't learn anything useful about summoning and using her spirit magic either.

Oh wait.
>>
>>27175640
She did fight with a sword against a banshee and came out on top.
I'd say that you're blinded by your prejudice.
I'm not the person you've been arguing with, if that makes any difference.
>>
>>27175667
I am the guy he is arguing with and that's not a proper point since she was still inside the Archonium.
>>
>>27175640
>>27175667
Furthermore, I'd like to add that SM himself said that archonium was used as a power-up so that she could be useful. Her sword skills and magic skills are real.
Arguing otherwise is pointless.
>>27175689
Being inside an archonium or not does not matter, as I've written up above.
>>
>>27175717
What I'm saying is that his argument is that the sword skills only existed in the Archonium, you can't really refute that point by bringing up her using them inside the Archonium, as it doesn't actually address the argument.

Regardless, she's shown to retain all her physical changes and her other abilities, so it should be obvious that she retained physical abilities as well.
>>
>>27175471
I'm pretty sure Ila would know how to use more than one kind of weapon knowing what she was in the past and has been using this in conjunction with her stealth abilities. Most of the time it's probably easier to use the punching daggers in her line of work, but shit happens and it would be silly for her not to know how to use a sword.
>>
>>27175762
I would agree if not for the fact that she wasn't fighting with a construct of archonium, but herself, in demon form.

But yes, I think we can all agree that she knows her shit.
>>
>>27175811
Oh right. She was fighting the one thing she couldn't just reality-warp, so she beat her on skill alone. Good point.

I should play devil's advocate for myself more often.
>>
>>27175811
Yeah. Mostly I was just arguing because it's 3 AM and I'm lonely.
But I did and do believe Ila to be more skilled. I do, however, concede the Archonium traing =/= real training bit.
>>
>>27175799
A sword is not really a stealth weapon. I'll concede that it is indeed possible that she at least knows the basics but until I have confirmation of her exact skill level Abby is still the better choice to me. Ila isn't carrying a sword with her at all, that should be enough confirmation of how familiar she is with wielding one.
>>
>>27175931
Actually this is probably one the the things we should ask SM at the start of the next thread just to get it out of the way, but I do see your point.
>>
>>27175980
To be honest, if Auriel is capable/willing to wield it I'd rather give it to her. She's probably the person we could trust most with a weapon like that considering her opinion of it and she's one of, if not the most, skilled swordsman in the setting.
>>
>>27176014
I can agree with that.
>>
I might get a bunch of flak for this, but Moonsong really should be a katana. It is not a sword that you should swing around all the time, but rather a last resort. A reserve weapon used for a surprise Iai strike better suits it.
>>
>>27176014
If we could convince her to touch the damned thing.
>>
>>27176097
Dude what the fuck what's the point fuck you.
>>
>>27176150
Well, I suppose that only counts if you don't want to accidentally erase something or go around destroying . A single, fast precision strike suits it more if you want to use it in a Just way.
>>
>>27176184
What I meant is that you're a goddamn weeaboo.
>>
>>27176097
This is bait.

Although, with a name like Moonsong, I can totally see where you're coming from. It screams weeaboo.
>>
>>27176210
At least I actually know how a katana is supposed to be used rather than all the weaboos who believe it's something you flail around like an idiot. I was just throwing out an idea to make conversation. Admittedly, I knew people would get upset over it and I was kind of maybe baiting, but I was more seeing if someone would actually look past the KATANA part and try to debate my reasoning.
>>
>>27176239
Indeed, this was bait. So is this. Why'd you do this man, go on the internet and try to upset people by saying stupid/annoying things.
>>
>>27176278
Because I'm bored, mostly. I honestly am looking for a legit conversation on swords and their uses here too, the baiting is just sort of a side goal.
>>
>>27176300
You're in the wrong place then.
>>
>>27176370
I was trying to think of how best to wield Moonsong in a way that wouldn't accidentally fuck up and minimize risks. Iaijutsu is what I came up with and I thought it relevant to thread because of this. However, I knew I couldn't bring that up without being angrily called a weeaboo. Since I can't really be considered innocent of baiting when I knew my post would upset someone, I decided to just embrace it and just be as upfront about everything as possible.
>>
>>27176512
Well piss I can't stay upset if you're so nice.
What about a thrusting weapon, like a rapier, I suppose using it in such a way'd make sense.
Maybe fashion it into a spear, because it'd be silly and why not.
>>
>>27176551
A thrusting weapon could work really well as well. Though I mostly went with Iai because then you don't have to worry about erasing something you didn't want to while parrying. Maybe a shield and rapier combo?
>>
>>27176572
Or just forge it into a dagger and give it to Ila.
>>
>>27176572
Thought erasure occured on contact with blade.
Shield's kinda pointless considering things we fight tend to kill regular humans in one hit.
>>27176617
And I think that the form is already locked in, can't change it.
iirc it's sort of a double edged sword
>>
>>27176617
Much more optimal for assassination but then it loses battle efficiency in a straightforward fight.

>>27176624
Yeah, the shield would have to be a really powerfully enchanted thing itself. If it is a double-edged sword I'd think it a leaf-blade. The name Moonsong just screams leaf-blade to me.
>>
>>27175444
>Well if we "had" to give it to someone I would say Ila as I think she would put it to better use than Abby would.

Auriel is a master swordswoman. She would be TERRIFYING with it in her hands - if only she were convinced it were safe to use
