---

Fifteen years ago, a war between the United Nations Earth and the Space Revolutionary Army, or UNE and SRA, respectively, resulted in the near extinction of the human race.

Several space colonies were knocked out of orbit, and had been sent on a collision course with the Earth. With the UNE unable to prevent the impending disaster, the casualties of which numbered in the billions, the Earth was thrust into a five year long nuclear winter. Now only one hundred million people remain on Earth, which has been turned into an unforgiving wasteland, where the only law is survival of the fittest.

You just so happen to be one of those survivors. You are... (cont'd.)
>>
>A Junk Dealer. You scavenge parts from the remnants of battles between Vultures, or from abandoned military facilities from the War, selling what you find for profit. You start with one Sand Buggy for transportation, one Handgun for security purposes, and one MS Field Repair Toolkit, stowed away in your Sand Buggy.
>>[Bonuses: Charisma Lvl.1 (+3 bonus to Diplomacy checks. You're a fairly smooth talker, and know how to get the best prices for your wares.) | Mechanic Lvl.1 (+4 bonus to Engineering checks. You know your way around mobile suits, and can make field repairs, provided you have the right tools and parts) | MS Pilot Lvl.1 (You know the basics of piloting a mobile suit, and do not suffer any penalties to MS combat on Earth. You not as skilled piloting a Mobile Suit in space or underwater, however, and suffer a -2 penalty to MS Combat in underwater and zero gravity environments.)]

>A Vulture. You're a leader of a group of mercenaries who travels across the land, salvaging equipment and parts, and taking odd jobs to help keep your food stores stocked, your water supply full, your MS compliment in tip top shape, and provide your hired help with a somewhat steady income. You start with one Handgun, a fully stocked and armed Land Battleship, a full crew, and a trio of Mobile Suit Pilots under your employ. Remember to pay your pilots, otherwise they may just pack up and leave, looking for work elsewhere.
>>[Bonuses: Charisma Lvl.2 (+4 to Diplomacy checks. You are the captain of a Vulture crew, and it shows. Only the most aggressive or thickheaded of people would think to challenge your authority.) | MS Pilot Lvl.1]

(cont'd.)
>>
>A Soldier. Even after the end of the 7th Space War, you still fight for [A faction of your choice(UNE or SRA)]. You are a cog in the machine that is war, and you follow your orders without question... most of the time, anyway. You start with a Handgun on your person, a Combat Knife, and a faction-specific Mobile Suit of your choice that is NOT a Gundam, belongs to an opposing faction, or has been manufactured after 0015 A.W.
>>[Bonuses: MS Pilot Lvl.2 (You are skilled at piloting mobile suits. You get a +2 bonus to MS Combat checks on Earth, and do not suffer penalties piloting in Space or Underwater.) | Combatant (You are skilled in armed and unarmed combat outside of a mobile suit. You get a +2 bonus to handling firearms and physical attack rolls.)]

You are David "Dave" West, a junk dealer, specializing in mobile suits and mobile suit parts and accessories. You've been at this job for quite a few years, and are familiar with all the tricks of the trade. You're a smooth-talking, fast acting sonnuvabitch, and have earned the ire of many of your customers, yet they still buy your wares, simply because you always offer the better deal. You are a loner, and always have been; you only look out for Numero Uno; yourself. As such, you are slow to trust others, and prefer to pick the option that benefits you the most.

Recently you've come across quite the find; a GX-9900 Gundam X, left untouched in an old UNE military base. Though, since you lacked the G-Controller necessary to pilot the Mobile Suit, you've had to make due with marking the location on a map and saving up some money to buy a G-Controller, which you now have. Unfortunately, as fate would have it, the Gundam you'd taken great care to hide away has been stolen!

Well... not so much stolen as it was found before you could do a thing about it, but you digress. Still, all is not lost; there's some... -mostly- intact Daughtresses, and what's left of what you think is a Daughtress Command to salvage; maybe you can still make a profit out of this venture, even if you weren't able to get what you were after.

>Result: 18

Surprisingly enough, you manage to scrounge up enough parts between all of the Mobile Suits to get a single, working one, though you have no weapons. Parts of the armor are melted, pitted, and torn in places, exposing the inner workings of the suit. The severity of the damage to the mobile suits, along with the fact the Gundam X has gone missing, left you very few guesses as to what could have reduced them all into such a state.

Sighing, you pull out your field repair kit, and set to work cobbling together a new suit from all this junk.

It takes most of the day, but you manage to throw together a decent-looking mobile suit from all the crap you managed to gather. You still couldn't find any weapons, and your armor's practically useless in its current state, but it moves surprisingly well for something you slapped together, and that's enough for you.

>Mobile Suit obtained! [Patchwork Daughtress]

Gently, you pick up your Sand Buggy, cradling it in one of your Daughtress' manipulators as you step outside in your new (in a manner of speaking...) Mobile Suit. Nighttime has fallen, so you have to be quick; bandits tend to roam during this time of day, and you don't want to be caught with your pants down.

>Great Success!

Thankfully, your trip back to town is decidedly bandit-free, though you do see something sticking out of the sand. Why the heck you didn't see it before, you have no idea, but you decide not to dwell on it as you come closer. When you finally reach the mystery object, it looks to be some huge-ass Heat Hawk. Not -quite- like the ones used by Jenices, but hot-damn, it's one hell of an axe. You could have sworn you've seen it somewhere before, though...

Your train of thought is derailed as your sensors pick up an energy signal, and before you can figure out where that signal was coming from, your answer comes in the form of a MASSIVE blast of energy off in the distance. Now, you aren't intimately familiar with the capabilities of the GX-9900, but any engineer worth his salt knew a Satellite Cannon blast when he saw one. If you were lucky, that might have been YOUR Gundam that fired that blast, but by the time you'd get there, if the pilot was smart, it'd be long gone. Still, it's worth investigating, at least, for the possibility of finding more junk to peddle. At least now you have a weapon to defend yourself with!

On the other hand, you don't want to risk running into any Vultures, especially since you've got your only other means of transportation sitting in your left hand, along with your field repair kit that's stowed in its trunk.

Yeah. The whole point of the Freeden is that they've got pretty much the last intact examples of the Gundam-class machines. Though hey, maybe we'll manage to take over the Freeden. Garrod got onboard easily enough. We can just sneak into the hangar and steal the GX back. And grab the Airmaster and Leopard on the way, tow them behind us. We will have all the Gundams. All of them.
>>
>>27204499
>Yeah. The whole point of the Freeden is that they've got pretty much the last intact examples of the Gundam-class machines.
Nope. There are others that keep getting dredged up. Like there was a second X, Leopard and Airmaster in Under the Moonlight, as well as a Belphagor. There was also a second Belphagor somewhere.
So it's possible for us to trip over another Gundam.
>>
>>27204540
I was using hyperbole. I know there are others in the manga. But they're rare enough that the Freeden crew never encounters anyone else with their model of suits. Unless you count G-Bits, I guess. Actually, you can probably convert bit mobile suits into piloted ones without too much hassle, we should give that a try if it ever comes up.
>>
Rolled 7

It takes you the rest of the night and then some, but by the time you reach the source of the energy reading, whatever caused it is long gone. Setting your buggy down, you take some time to observe the havoc wreaked by the Satellite Cannon blast. A large stretch of forest has been incinerated, mobile suits have been melted down into unrecognizable piles of slag, and you can see evidence that a land battleship's been in the area. Judging from the size, possibly an Alps-class cruiser. Whoever took your Gundam X has some friends, it seems... Not good.

You turn around, bending down to scoop your buggy up and eager to return to town. As you do so, you find yourself hearing whispers in your head, which only seem to get louder and louder. clutching your head, you attempt to drown out the voices, which seem intent on driving you crazy, knocking you unconscious, or both.

>Success!

Grinding your teeth in frustration, you've just about had enough of this shit.

"SHUT THE -HELL- UP!"

And surprisingly, the voices comply. Freaky.

Exhausted from the attempted mind rape, you decide that it would be best to just head back into town, which should take most of the day, find a place to store your MS, and get some MUCH needed sleep.

The rest of the trip goes without incident, and you set your MS down in the back lot behind your shop, tossing a large tarp over it. You take inventory and find you have some parts lying around to make some more repairs to the Daughtress, thus fixing the issue with the armor, and have miscellaneous crap lying around. Among the aforementioned crap is a few magazines for a Daughtress' machinegun, (but no machine gun) most of a Septem's manipulator, a Juracg's giant snowboard, a Daughseat III's arm, and a monoeye camera. You don't know what MS it came out of, but hey, parts are parts.

You sigh, satisfied after a successful hunt. Locking up your shop, you head upstairs, where you proceed to get ready for bed.

You go to sleep almost immediately; for about 8 to 10 hours, you might as well be dead to the world. You're only awoken by what you can only describe as this incessant buzzing at the back of your mind, It's dull, but noticeable. Like a slight itch. Once you're dressed and had a cup of coffee, (black, no sugar, of course.) you head downstairs, where you see two raven haired gentlemen standing outside of your shop. Curiously, that buzzing seems to be getting more annoying the closer you get to the front door. Thankfully, neither of them seemed to notice you yet; they seem to be preoccupied just... standing there, not moving.

Creepy.

You walk towards the front door, keys in hand, and with a dull CLUNK, unlock it.

That noise seemed to catch their attention, as they stare in your direction. One of them, the older one, you presume, is wearing a black jacket over a dress shirt that is neither fully buttoned or tucked in, while the one you assume to be the younger one is wearing a purple jacket, and his pants so high, they've probably got a death grip on his balls.

Creepy or not, they're two potential customers, so you put on your best smile and decide to work your magic.

"Hello? How can I help you two fine gentlemen?"

The older of the two smiles, and bows slightly.

"Hello," he says. "I am Shagia, and this is my younger brother, Olba."

"Pleased to meet you." replied Olba, smiling as well.

God, you hoped they would stop soon; it was -creepy- when they did that.

"Er... the pleasure's all mine, gentlemen. I assume you've come here in need of parts? Well look no further! Dave West's Mobile Suit Body and Parts Shop has whatever you could need in stock at the best prices for miles around!"

The two brothers go silent for a moment, glancing at each other. The buzzing in your skull returns, and you do your best to hide your discomfort.

"Yes, well..." begins Shagia, wearing that creepy little smile of his. "... while neither of us have any doubts in regards to the.... quality of your wares, they aren't why we are here."

"Oh?"

You raise an eyebrow. If they aren't here for parts, then why the heck were they even here?

"You see, Mister West..." said Olba, stepping forward. "My brother and I are in need of your services. we know what you are, and require your abilities to assist us in finding a certain girl..."

You say nothing as you are handed a photo of the girl in question. She can't be older than fifteen, and she hardly looks threatening.

"Her name is Tiffa Adill, and she is a powerful, and highly unstable Newtype." says Shagia, pulling out a picture of an Alps-class cruiser. "We believe that she is being held aboard this Land Battleship, though, for what purposes, we aren't certain. We want your help in finding her, and taking her into our custody."

You look at the photos you were given, and purse your lips in thought as you consider your options.

"Gentlemen, I can get you parts, repairs or ammunition- whatever you do with those re your own business- but I don't deal in human wares.

"And I'm not sure who or what you think I am- but I have no interest in any of it. I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

The two brothers look at you, then to each other, and go real quiet. The buzzing returns again, and it's going crazy at this point.

"While I do regret I won't be able to assist you, I may be able to refer you to some people. Perhaps they would be more willing to assist the both of you in your endeavors?"

They look to you, and it feels like an eternity before Shagia speaks up.

"Very well. It's a shame we could not convince you, but we understand."

Olba seems incensed at this, and raises his voice.

"But brother--"

"That's -enough-, Olba. We're done here." interjects Shagia, still smiling.

Olba relaxes, and nods. "Of course, brother. Shall we be off?"

"Yes, we shall."

And just like that, the both of them exited your shop, leaving you alone with your thoughts. Something about their story didn't add up... you don't know what, but something seemed... off about those two, and it wasn't just their sense of style.

You groan in frustration. Why'd you have to wake up to THIS? You needed to take your mind off of things. You head out back to where your mobile suit, thankfully still under its tarp, is sitting, along with the rest of your inventory too large to fit into your store's shelves.

You'd been toying with the idea of modifying that MS-sized snowboard for use on sand and the idea certainly IS tempting, since you now have a Mobile Suit to test it with, though you also have to find some new armor for your Daughtress...

What we would like for the Daughtress?

The first order of business is to get high mobility parts from Vulture suits.

You gather your materials, which took a few hours of sorting through your wares, and you found enough materials to at least get your Daughtress looking like new again. Modifying the snowboard would have to wait.

No- there's probably already too many beige/non-distinct mobile suits out there- a lot like how we found ours.

Camo doesn't help giant robots- you might as well be destinctive- that way friend or foe can properly identify you.

Furthermore- its easier to identify stolen stuff from us that way- its our distinctive colors- which gives validity to our claims.

A mono-eye sounds fine to me.
What we should probably do is go for maximum modularity - add hardpoints where we can attach various weapons and systems that can be easily replaced if the need arises. Make the unholy hybrid of the AGEs and the F90s.

You shake your head. Sell it? Why the hell would you do that? You built this thing IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF--

Yeah, okay, maybe not in a cave, but you certainly did cobble it together from nothing but scrap and junk. You can't just sell it, not after spending so much time on it already. Besides, you were thinking it'd look nice with a new paint job... something with dark blue and silver, or maybe white and blue, with yellow highlights... but first and foremost; modifications now; paintjob later.

How about a Welltall head? The mechanical designer for most of the After War mobile suits also worked on Xenogears. You can really see it when you look at some of the suits the Frosts send after the Freeden. Improved movement in hard terrain. We're planning on turning it into a sandboard that'd allow us to move across this goddamn desert more easily.
That, and I think we have a servoarm nearby - we could combine those two and have a sandboard/shield that's capable of turning around independently of our arms.

You decide to figure out a way to mount that mono-eye onto your Daughtress. It's high performance; better range than the Daughtress' for sure, but you can't exactly fit a square peg into a round hole... or in this case, a round monoeye into a square casing.

So, you decide to go diving for more parts to see if you can't rig something else up, and after a few hours of searching, you think you have something. By taking the casing of what you assume is a GX Bit's torso, specifically where its breast vulcans would be mounted, a blowtorch, and some creative thinking, you'll probably be able to convert the mono-eye camera into some sort of long range chest-mounted sensor, or "Search Eye", as you've decided to call it.

Fucking Garrod himself, the most competent protag this side of Tobia Arronax, refused to keep the mobile suit he aquires at the start of episode one, cause it just wasn't worth the risk.

"God DAMN it!"

Not only were you unable to mount the Mono-eye into the GX Bit's torso casing, but the wires you were using shorted out, the blowtorch wasn't cooperating, but when you went to remove the mono-eye, it landed lens-first, shattering it!

>Mono-eye status: In need of repairs

You weren't gonna cry, damn it. You were NOT gonna cry. No sir, not after HOURS of trial and error, and more error. You curse under your breath as you feel a single, solitary tear roll down your cheek, as if your own body was proverbially giving you the finger.

So much for that idea. Still, you weren't just going to shelve the idea; on paper it's a very solid upgrade. You just seemed to have a run of bad luck, that's all. You're distracted by a call from one of your contacts for Mobile Suit parts, who informs you that he's got a large shipment of Daughtress parts coming in. He reads you off a list, and asks if anything interests you.

You could do it; you've got enough money to spare for one of the things on the list, but probably nothing more than that. You'll also have to travel for a few days; this guy doesn't do deliveries.

Which of the items on the list will you get?

Since better sensor range was what you were trying to go for with your Search Eye setup, you optioned for the Daughtress Command head.

You spend about a half-hour discussing the transaction details, and you managed to whittle down the price by about 15%. Not too shabby, but not enough to let you think about purchasing something else; you'd just have to work with what you have for now. Speaking of which, there was still plenty of daylight left...

It takes you a few hours to make the modifications, but after you step onto the Mobile Suit-sized snowboard, or "Sledge" as it's officially called, your hard work has definitely paid off, and you have a working sandboard for your Daughtress! Sleep? PAH! Sleep is for the feeble-minded and the dead. You prepare for your trip by stocking a backpack full of ration bars, a thermos full of coffee, and a walkman with a few mix tapes.

It's not long before you're gliding across the desert sands with your Heat Hawk in hand, the stars above lighting your way as you travel to your destination.

Eventually, you reach town just as the sun is at its highest in the sky. You've been in this town several times before, so you know where to go for your new head. The guy who's selling it to you is nice, if a bit... loopy.

"Well if it eezn't my favoreet custoomer, Dave!" greets your associate, the aptly named "Crazy Sven".

"Morning, Sven. So where's that Daughtress Command head?"

"Head? Oh yes, that head. Is out back. Bring suit out back, if-ing you pleez." he replies, grinning.

You nod, bringing your baby around back, where you see Sven, who's giving your baby a critical eye.

"Dah, is good work for amateur like yourself. Modified Sledge is nice touch. Makes travel times easier, yes?"

You nod in agreement, and give Sven the money you promised him. The modifications should take a while, so you have some time to kill. You could visit the market, or check out the town square, where there seems to be some kind of auction going on. There's a stage, and some kid in a red and tan jacket is talking up something that's hidden under a tarp. It looks to be a Mobile Suit from what you can gather...

>You make a quick stop at one of the market stalls, and purchase an apple. Whoever grew it must have had a lot of time and money on their hands, because it was rare you saw an apple as nice-looking as this one these days.

You take a few bites out of it as you approach the town square, where a large crowd of people have gathered. At this point, the stage has been decorated a little, and a microphone and some speakers have been set up.

You take another bite out of the apple, and take a good look at the kid; he couldn't be more than fifteen, could he? What the hell could he be doing with a mobile suit?

You try to ask around, to see if anyone knew the kid, but his identity was as much of a mystery to them as it was to you. There's a tapping on the microphone to get everyone's attention before the kid speaks.

"Attention... Attention everyone!"

The kid smiles as he hold a corner of the tarp in one hand, and gives it a good tug, causing it to fall off of the mystery machine, and everyone's (including yours) jaw -drops-.
