Your name is Dirk Crocker and you just had some delicious General Tso’s chicken! Oh and you had a heart felt time with Rena and talked to her fiancée who had been fooled into thinking Rena actually loved him. The two of them just left to go back to the Diva and you’re standing outside of an incredibly shady Chinese restaurant thinking on what you should do next.

>11 Hours of shore leave left.
-Go drinking with Woolf and the gang!
-Chat with Desil, he did just kill one of his siblings in the last battle
-Ask Obright more about the weird unfrozen “Professor” he mentioned
-Put some gadgets into MID!
-Other Stuff

So what do you plan to do Dirk?
>>
>>27262834
> Chat with Desil, he did just kill one of his siblings in the last battle
Also, see if we can get some HDODS weapons for the Magnificent 7.
>>
Hunter took the news pretty well. We should eventually see if the guy wants any engineering or help done.
For all we know, he might get relocated to the Diva.

In the meantime, let's see Desil.
>>
>>27262980
>>27263257
You're usually a good judge of character like Scarlet is, but Hunter seemed like a good guy. Maybe a little naive and kind of dopey, but he obviously respected Rena's feels and decisions. It's gotta suck finding out the girl he was convinced love him wants nothing to do with him...Maybe some work on the Zeydra might cheer him up?

That will have to wait, Uncle Desil's state of mind is what you're worried about right now. You're pretty sure that Desil is off drinking with the other Magnificent 7 members. You text Alfred using your G-Phone and find out they're at the same bar as Woolf and the others.

After a few minutes of walking you arrive at the bar and find Desil and the others sitting in a booth, beers and greasy food split between the four of them. Desil look a bit better now that he's had a few beers and is currently laughing and chatting with the others.

What do you wish to do Dirk?
A) Leave him be, he's obviously having fun.
B) Walk up and ask to speak with Desil in private.
C) Other
>>

> A) Leave him be, he's obviously having fun.
See if the rest of the Woolf Pack is around. You could use a drink right about now.
>>
>>27263307
Leave him for now, give him a chance to just relax. We should still walk up and say hi to him and the gang, though. Just the polite thing to do. Also, it makes the option of whether or not to talk his choice, so that would be better for him, emotionally.
>>
>>27263670
Yeah, if he wants to talk with us, we're there for him.
>>
>>27263354
>>27263707

Desil seems to be having fun, bringing up depressing crap would probably ruin his buzz and end the fun for the whole group.

You decide to look around for the Woolf pack. You find them upstairs in a booth overlooking the dance floor. Everyone's drinking and eating and having fun, Arisa spots you and waves you over.

"Hey Dirk want to join us?" Arisa asks.

"Sure!" You take a seat next to her.

"So guys, I was thinking of getting the Magnificent 7 some HDODS rifles." you start, before being cut off by Max.

"I don't think they'll go for it. As nice as HDODS rifles are, they're not flawless. Regular DODS Rifles are very balanced in terms or range, fire power and accuracy. On top of that they can be used in more sensitive situations. A HDODS Rifle on the other hand will shot through whatever you're trying to hit and what is behind it. Not so useful when you're allies are nearby. Besides, for all the penetration and power a HDODS has a regular DODS Rifle can circumvent EM armor if you use them at point blank. Besides, the Magnificent 7 have beam sabers and bits with beam cannons and drills, I think they're covered in terms of firepower." Max says in a long, slightly slurred ramble.

"That was...pretty informative Max." You say with an eyebrow raised.

"Like I said before. I like cool stuff, so I make sure I know about cool stuff." He says before belching.

A waitress visits the table and everyone orders refills. You have the chance to buy drinks and order food. You don't have any money, but Woolf is paying for everything so it's no big deal.

What do you want to eat and what do you want to drink?
>>
>>27263781
Get a bear and whatever they're recommending. Hunter ate all our food back there.
>>
>>27263781
Grog. Dirk grew up around pirates. Pirates who love playing to stereotype. He's learned his appreciation of alcohol from them. Luckily, modern grog is actually closer to a boilermaker than the watered-down swill the pirates of old would drink.
>>
>>27263888
>>27264010
>Get a bear
You're not sure if anyone in the colonies sells bears or serves bear meat. Though it would be something you'd be interesting in trying...you'll have to try and get some bear meat when all this is over.

Instead you order a Grog and the medium chicken wings with garlic butter sauce. Apparently they're very good.

As you wait for your food and drink you chat with Woolf and the others. Arisa asks you an odd question. "What do you think is a good name for a kid? Rena said that
if she had a boy she'd probably name him Jerid, maybe Leo depending on how he looked.”

“What about Kio?” Asemu asks

“Isn't that a girl’s name?” Arisa questions, before looking at you. "What do you think are good names for a kid Dirk?"
>>
>>27264145
Bear. I swear that was supposed to be beer.
Anyway.

"What? Wait, why that question? Why would Rena even think about that?"
>>
>>27264211
Also, John.
>>
>>27264145
"Are we talking about children's names in general, or are we assuming it's my kid? Because you'd have to factor in the last name. I know my sister always had issues with how 'Scarlet Crocker' rolls off the tongue. Hey Woolf, remember how when she was a kid she said she was going to marry you some day so she could have the name Enneacle?

"Anyway, I've always been fond of the name Tobias. Or Aaron. Those are good names. Hell, use both, name the kid Tobias Aaron."
>>
>>27264343
> Woolf
You mean Asemu?
>>
>>27264379
Well, that's what I'd prefer, but I figure little girl saying she'd marry her friend's dad one day was more probable. I've seen that with my younger cousins. It's adorable, though vaguely creepy.
>>
>>27264211
"What? Wait, why that question? Why would Rena even think about that?" You ask, looking very, very concerned.

"Oh apparently her 'fiancee' Hunter was asking her all these really awkward questions about what she would name a child over the phone. Later I asked her the question legitimately and we had a laugh thinking up some horrible ones."Arisa says, sipping her beer.

"So what would you name a child if you liked him or her, and what would you name a child if you hated them?" Arisa asks with an amused smile.

"I don't know...John?" You say with a shrug

"What? That's pretty damn generic. I guess you would name a kid that if you didn't really give a crap about them. Is that really the best you can come up with?" Arisa lets out a disappointed sigh and you eventually give in.

"Well if it wasn't my kid I'd probably name them Tobias or Aaron, or Tobias Aaron. As for what I'd name my kid? I have no idea, my sister was always kind of pissed off at how 'Scarlet Crocker' sounds and she said she wanted to marry Woolf to have his last name..." You explain, grimacing at the last part.

"Jeez, that's pretty creepy." Asemu admits.

"Don't mention it to her or she'll kick you so hard in the balls you'll have three Adams apples." You warn.

Outside of how odd your sister was/is what else do you want to talk about?
>>
>>27264521
Talk about anything, just as long as nobody asks us about that awkward date with Rena and Hunter.
>>
>>27264521
"Eh, don't worry too much about groin kicking, she was like six when she said that. I doubt she even remembers. Besides, Arisa has the local monopoly on dick kicks. She's the one to worry about.

"So, where's Obright? Taking the chance to spend some time with Remi outside of work? Those two are so cute together."
>>
>>27264600
>>27264627
Combine the two. Whatever keeps them of our case.
>>
>>27264600
>>27264627
Anything to get your mind off that awful date with Rena and Hunter is a good thing. You talk to Asemu and Arisa, while Max bugs you to put in that escape pod he asked for and a lot of other 'cool' modifications'. You let him borrow your phone to call his Mom just so he'll shut up for a couple minutes. Max is a bit irritating when he's had a few drinks.

You look around and notice Obright isn't anywhere to be seen.

"Hey Woolf, where's Obright?"

"Oh he's hanging out with some girl, one of the engineers on the Diva. Remi Ruth I think her name is." Woolf says as your drink and wings arrive along with refills for everyone else.

You dig into your wings and enjoy your drink. Makes you feel good, nice and relaxed. Soon you forget all about the horrible date.

A) Have a few more drinks, what's the harm?
B) One's enough, you're a light weight remember?
>>
>>27265337
One's enough. Also, did we really just let someone else borrow our phone when we've been warned there's a spy on the team? Damn it, Max, it better not be you.
>>
>>27265337
> B) One's enough, you're a light weight remember?
Where're Akito and Yurika? They aren't here.

>>27265358
We could always check our calls. Maybe MID can track that stuff - the G-Phone is probably linked to him in some way.
>>
>>27265403
I was more worried about him planting a bug. Either way, we need to check our phone over after we're done here.
>>
>>27265439
Yeah, just in case.
>>
>>27265358
>>27265439
>>27265564

Decide one is enough. You don't want to wake up naked in an alley with "WOLF PACK" tattooed on your knuckles. After finishing your wings you get your phone back from Max and look it over. He didn't do anything too it, but he actually made several calls. 6 of them were to his Mom, apparently she didn't pick up the first five times and he left drunken ass messages for her. Six time she did pick up after Max called her mom phone. The seventh call was to...a sexy toy shop her on Solon? God damn it Max, you have a prank planned again? Well at least you know he has something stupid planned.

>>27265403
Looking around you realize that Akito and Yurika aren't anywhere to be seen.
"Woolf, where did Akito and Yurika head off too?" you ask.

"Not sure. They said they weren't interested in drinking. Maybe they're talking with their Dad or something? I don't think they left the ship." Woolf says with a shrug.

Well you've had some good food and a good drink. Now what do you wish to do? It's only been an hour, so you've still got 10 hours of time to burn. You could hunt down Obright and ask him about that "Professor" he talked about, or maybe you could see what Akito and Yurika are up too. Or maybe you could do something else.

What do you wish to do Dirk?
>>
>>27265640
Let's see what Akito and Yurika are up to. We haven't talked to Akito in ages.
>>
>>27265640
Hunt for that Professor guy. No need to interrupt Obright's date, if he heard about the guy I'm sure we can find some details.
>>
>>27265912
We could get Rena to join us in that hunt for the professor. We should fill her in on how the nanotech research is going on, as well as talk in private about that incident from a while ago.
>>
>>27265688
>>27265962
Akito, Yurika, and Rena are all back on the ship. You haven't hung out with Akito in ages, but this Professor guy seems pretty interesting. You'd ask Rena to come along...but you think giving her some alone time might be a better idea. Besides, you don't want to risk Hunter tagging along with you and leading to another awkward situation. This is a time for exploring, relaxation, and adventure, not "awkward times with Rena and co".

You think about hunting down Obright, but he's probably having a date. Well that just meets you'll have to go snooping around yourself!

After making a couple of calls and asking around, you manage to learn the location of the "Professor" and some information about him. Apparently his name is Uther and he was awakened from cryostasis a few years ago after his pod was recovered in some bunker complex in south america. When he was awakened he told everyone he was a famous inventor and war criminal, but not of the war crime trails from the Colony Nation War mentioned him and nothing was left to suggest that he invented anything despite his claims towards having invented the mobile suit.

Most people think he's suffering from brain damage after being frozen for so long, others think he's just trying to get attention. He lives in a rent controlled apartment a few blocks away from the bar you're currently in.

What do you wish to do Dirk? Do you wish to visit Professor Uther?
>>
>>27266721
Yes. Meet up with the old man.
>>
Alright, just saw the thread in passing but I have to ask: Why is Layton in a Mobile Suit?

I'm not sure I'm gonna care about the quest, but I can't leave that question unasked.
>>
>>27266721
Yeah, let's see this guy.
>>
>>27266956
Minovsky Particles.
>>
>>27266956
(To answer your question, I believe Layton is in a mobile suit to joke about the fact that the same people who develop the Professor Layton series (Level-5) also made a Gundam AGE Game for the PSP. I found this image floating around and decided to use it because I found it amusing)

Good attention grabber though, made me wtf away from important things just for an answer.

You decide to visit the "Professor" and find out if he's crazy or telling the truth. The walk to his apartment is a rather unusual one. The section of Solon where the apartment is in is old, very old. The sidewalks are cracked, the streets in disrepair, and the buildings seem to be in a slow state of deca. Very few people walk the streets, the ones that do are ether running through the section trying to get somewhere else or are walking around as if they don't know where to go.

The people that seem to live in this part of town all seem to be poor, miserable, or old. You don't like the place, not one bit. Being here leaves a bad feeling in the back of your head, one anyone would probably have. You don't need to be an X-Rounder to sense when something is...off.

After finding the old man's apartment and walking the creaky, wooden staircase up to his room you pause outside of his door and consider turning back before knocking on the door. There is a long period of silence before an old man comes to the door. Old is an understatement, he seems practically ancient. You look over the bald, gaunt, and wrinkled man and wonder how the hell he’s still alive.

“Did he send you?” The old man asks.

“Huh? Who?” You reply and the old man just shakes his head.

“Nevermind. What do you want?” The old man demands.
>>
>>27267340
"Sir, my name is Dirk Crocker. I heard that you're the man to speak to about old Federation tech and the Revolutionary war?"
>>
>>27267393
"Sir, my name is Dirk Crocker. I heard that you're the man to speak to about old Federation tech and the Revolutionary war?"

"Revolutionary War? I'm not that old son. That was 1000 years before my time and-" The man stops and sighs. "Do you mean the Colony Nation Wars?"

"Yes sir." You say with a nod.

"Yes I know about the Colony Nation Wars and I know about the so called 'Old' tech that was used in it. My question is why do you want to know?"
>>
> Uther
Arthur's father?
>>
>>27267603
"Well, everything, honestly. Why did it happen, what was going on at the time, everything."
>>
>>27267659
"Well, everything, honestly. Why did it happen, what was going on at the time, everything." You explain, causing the man to narrow his eyes.

"Alright. If you're looking for the truth why do you want to know about the tech?" The old man asks, looking over you with suspicion in his eyes.
>>
>>27267862
Flash MID at him.
"Because of this?"
>>
>>27267889
You raise your arm and pull back the sleeve, revealing in full MID, attached to your arm. MID's tiny mono eye fixates on the old man.

"Grandpa!" he chimes happily.

The old man sighs and nods his head. "I'll let you inside and tell you whatever you want regarding MID, 'old' tech, and the Colony Nation War. But after I'm finished with your questions you have to listen to a story...are you willing to do that?" The old man asks.

Well Dirk?
>>
>>27268031
"...grandpa? Yes, sure."
>>
>>27268067
"...grandpa? Yeah, sure." You agree and the old man lets you into his home. It's small. The living room and the bedroom as the same room, a tiny kitchen is a door away and so is the bathroom. Old paperback books are in piles all over the room, under the bed, on the bed, everywhere. You don't see any computers, or work stations, or anything remotely technological. Even the lights are old florescent bulbs.

The old man walks over to an arm chair and slides into it, offering you a seat on his bed which is only 4 feet away from him.

"What do you want to hear about first?" The old man asks. "Like I said before, I won't answer any questions about myself until you have your other answers."
>>
>>27268437
"Well... You could tell me a bit about MID, I guess. He seems to recognize you. Were you his previous owner?"
>>
>>27268666
"Well... You could tell me a bit about MID, I guess. He seems to recognize you. Were you his previous owner?" You ask.

"No, I'm not his owner. I'm his creator. At first MID was merely an experiment of mine started back when I was young. I wanted to design a system that could adapt and evolve, not over the course of generations, but over the course of minutes. When faced with opposition, danger, or change it would evolve to better face them. My first design was about the size of this room. As technology advanced and my research furthered it became smaller and more advanced. Instead of just being to evolve in terms or problem solving skills it began to change physically, it became mobile. I later recreated a smaller, downsized version in the form of MID." The old man explains, leaning back into his seat. "

MID was merely meant to be a pet of sorts. I'm not sure why I gave him the ability to evolve, but it's obvious that he's used it recently. Let me guess, your life was in danger?"

"Yeah I lost my arm..."

"MID probably used the data he collected 'subconsciously' on your physiology and used that to repair you, binding to your body like a cybernetic life support implant."

"What do you mean by subconsciously?" You ask, looking down at MID and then back at the old man.

"MID is made up of two entities. The evolutionary adaption system I designed and the friendly A.I. The system itself wouldn't be all that fun to have around, all it would do is change and adapt, and if it did develop a personality it would be cold, logical, and focused on survival. You can think of this as MID's base instincts if you wish. Then there is the A.I, MID himself. His feelings, memories, hopes, dreams, likes, dislikes, all of them make up his conscious mind. He controls the physical functions of his body, he has no concern over collecting data or being cautious of his surroundings. However the system does, and collects data without MID being aware of it."

(Cont)
>>
>>27268878
"From the looks of him he was probably damaged around the time you were hurt. MID was concerned with your safety and the System was concerned about it's own survival. Thus, MID latched onto you, probably using your bodies bio electrical field to act as an emergency power supply, all while stabilizing your vitals to prevent you from dying and thus causing MID to die as well." The old man speaks in an even tone and glances over MID as you do.

"What else do you wish to know?" The old man asks.
>>
>>27268926
"Wow. That's really impressive. I knew that pre-war tech was incredibly advanced, but this is just amazing. I guess we both owe you our lives. Thanks."

"Could you tell us about the war? If that's not a sore topic, that is. Why did it start? What happened? There's amazingly little data on the topic."
>>
>>27268977
"Wow. That's really impressive. I knew that pre-war tech was incredibly advanced, but this is just amazing. I guess we both owe you our lives. Thanks." You say with a smile, only for the old man to shake his head.

"I didn't build MID to save lives. His decision to save yours was all on his own. I didn't program MID to be kind, he learned to be kind." The old mans state drearily.

"OK then could you tell us about the war? If that's not a sore topic, that is. Why did it start? What happened? There's amazingly little data on the topic." The old man sighs and nods his head.

"The Colony Nation Wars started when the colonies grew discontent with the Earth Federations control over their lives. The Federation had grown increasingly concerned with it's economic prosperity that the Colonies Delivered, so to ensure that prosperity it slowly took control of the colonies and stripped the Spacenoids of their political freedom. Discreetly of course, if you were to make that claim directly they'd probably throw some legal nonsense at you saying that you were wrong. In the end however the people of the colonies felt trapped and controlled. Slowly this hate grew and grew. First there were small crimes, then protests, then acts of terrorism. Eventually the hatred of the colonies bloomed into full on rebellion and they developed armies in secret and took the war to the Federation." The old man scratches his grey, scraggly beard as he speaks.

"At first many thought the Federation would win, that a super power of the combined forces of Earth couldn't be trumped by rebels from Space. However Space was were the most valuable resources were, and no one was more accustom to space then the colonists. Their weapons and troops were built solely to control and take space, and soon they were starving the Federation of vital resources, causing economic and strategic chaos. However the Federation was able to break the tide with the development of mobile suit technology."

"Federation mobile suits destroyed colonist ships and took over entire colonies, destroying some when necessary. The Earth Federations superiority didn't last long as the Colonists developed mobile suits and then...things got worse." The old man frowns looking away from you and out one of the musty old windows.

"The colonies were originally joined in unity against the Earth Federation, but as soon as the Earth Federation and the colonist forces were at a standstill, differences in ideology and strategy split the colonists and soon the colonists were fighting themselves and Earth. Technology only grew more and more advanced, weapons grew stronger, mobile suits grew more powerful, and weapons of mass destruction were utilized and improved. The war raged for 50 years and ended shortly after the creation of the Gundam by the Asuno family. The Gundam gave the Federation a strength and spirit it didn't have before. It was a weapon so powerful, that it literally struck fear into the hearts of it's enemies, and courage into the hearts of it's allies. It was thanks to the Gundam that the Colonies were ravaged and weakened, breaking their spirits and sapping their desire for revenge. Allowing the colonies to unanimously agree to sign the Silver Chalice Treaty which eventually ended the war. There are more details to that, but those involve me and till have to come later. Now what else do you wish to know?" The old man asked.
>>
>>27268878
Okay, running a bit behind because I was on the train and didn't have a connection, but didn't MID say he was made by the Asunos, all the way back when we first got him? So is this man an Asuno, or did he just collaborate with them on projects that led to MID's creation? Either one would explain MID calling him "grandpa", really.
>>
>>27269361
What does ∀ mean?
>>
>>27269431
(MID was made by Uther with assistance from the Asunos. Since he only knows Uther as 'Grandpa' he stated that he was made by the Asunos. If Jake had asked him who his creator was, he probably would have said 'Grandpa' was. Instead he asked who made him, which MID assumed was 'build' and associated who physically put him together with the Asunos, while 'Grandpa' actually designed MID)
>>
>>27269361
"The Gundam Crusader is supposed to be the pinnacle of pre-war MS tech?"
"It doesn't look like it's so advanced the last time I saw it. Those Vagan suits seem to be more advanced than it is. Was it scrapped between wars or something?"
>>
>>27269361
"What do you know about the MADNUG AI? She was recovered along with the Gundam by my father, and has sort of become like a member of the family. But her memory's been wiped, she doesn't recall anything about Arthur or MID or the war. She doesn't really talk about it, but growing up I always got the sense that she's sad about that."
>>
>>27269516
Thanks for the clarification. So I guess that the Asuno family research that Flit turned into the AGE System is based on Uther's technology, then. I wonder how he feels about that.
>>
>>27269522
"The Crusader? Interesting name for it. Well I know the Gundam might not have looked like much, but it wasn't what the MS could do, it was what it could control."

"What do you mean?" You ask.

"The Gundam is equip with a system that allows it to find and identity Mobile Weapons. Then, the on board A.I known as MADNUG would forceably reprogram the mobile weapons routines and give the pilot direct control over them. Due to the over abundance of A.I weapons during the war, this meant the Gundam could enter the battlefield and take control of every A.I controlled system, allowing it to control entire armies at once. While it was lightly armed, it didn't need a lot of weapons when it could have mobile suits suicide run into the sides of ships, or have hi-jacked enemy mobile armors launch nukes into the side of the enemy space colony. The Gundam was the pinnacle of mobile suit technology, not for it's combat performance, but rather for it's A.I and control system. There wasn't another machine like it in the entire war, I can guarantee you that." The old man states.

"What do you know about the MADNUG AI? She was recovered along with the Gundam by my father, and has sort of become like a member of the family. But her memory's been wiped, she doesn't recall anything about Arthur or MID or the war. She doesn't really talk about it, but I always got the sense that she's sad about that." You ask and the old man shakes his head.

"I don't know why she doesn't have any memories. It's most likely the pilot whipped them for whatever reason. However I can tell you that the MADNUG I developed wouldn't feel sad about anything. I designed her to act as alongside the control system the Asuno's had developed. She is the most advanced A.I I had developed at that point. After a few sorties with the pilot she became nothing short of a monster, concerned only for the death of the enemy and the satisfaction of the designated pilot. She had no concern for human life."

(Cont)
>>
>>27269720
"I didn't design her that way of course. I let her develop like all my A.I's, the personality was merely shaped by the pilot of the Gundam. I'm happy to hear she's more human now. So what else do you wish to know?" The old man smiles, but gets up and walks into the kitchen for something, however he's still not very far away considering how small the apartment is.
>>
>>27269771
"You need any help?"

"How do the Vagans fit into all this? Where did they get their tech from?"
>>
>>27269720
Well that's ominous. I wonder why she's evolved differently, this time around. Maybe because we socialized her instead of just using her as a control interface? Jake did tend to treat Ma G like a person even when she was still all stiff and robotic. And we did always emphasize capturing enemies if possible, so that could have played a part by making her not optimize herself for killing. Interesting.

"How do the Vagans fit into all this? Where did they get their tech from?" You ask.

"I don't know, but maybe the story I have to tell you once we're done might give you some ideas." He comes back with a glass of water and a pile of pills.

"Uh, do you need any help?" You ask, looking over the man worryingly.

"No I'm fine. I'll be better when I can tell my story. But please what else do you wish to know?" The old man says as he begins to take the pills.
>>
>>27269771
"The Vagans have an AI of their own. Called SIN, ominously enough. Was that one active during the Colony Wars, or is it a new creation? Any knowledge you have on it would help. See, I've got this theory that the reason why the Federation struck first in the war was fear of it. Every encounter we've had with it implies a pretty malicious intelligence, and Ezelcant seems to have given it free reign of the Mars Sphere. How likely is a rogue AI arising, and how threatening would it be if it did?"
>>
>>27269902
"You said that MADNUG adapted to her pilot's style. Could you tell me a bit about the original pilot?"

>>27269837
Well, Rysis did mention that Arthur was a pretty nasty pilot. Considering what he probably faced at the time, the guy was probably shell-shocked for life and fought like a beast simply to survive. And who knows what kind of life the guy had before he became a pilot.

Speaking of Jake, now that he's hurt badly, I kinda worry what MaG will do. Her family was attacked and hurt.
>>
>>27269902
"You said that MADNUG's sociopathy was a response to her pilot. What kind of man was Sergeant Arthur? All I know about him is what we learned from a few personal effects my father found, MID's memories of playing with him, and some things Rysis Dutch said about him. She's still alive too, if you didn't know. She was unfrozen about twenty-five years ago, and after a brief period of wanting to kill my father for reminding her too much of Arthur, has settled into a weird pseudo-familial relationship with us. She keeps insisting she's my aunt. She doesn't say much about her life before the cryo-freeze, though. Just that she and Arthur were lovers at some point before the war, and maybe some point after it."
>>
>>27269955
"Hmmm, an interesting thought. Most A.I's have fail-safes built into them, in the case of them going rogue or developing too far, they will slowly break down. I called it "The Reverse Algernon Protocal" as it could inflict powerful intelligences with what equates to A.I retardation," The old man scratches his beard, seeming intrigued by the idea as he finishes off the last of the many, many pills.

"I do know of a SIN A.I. It was an A.I developed in an effort to counter the Crusader's SENTINEL system which controlled A.I's by manipulating the Reverse Algernon protocal. It's possible that the A.I was developed without them. However I don't recall it being used it battle. The war ended before it was deployed. After the war all the weapons produced by the colonies were dismantled for destruction, it's possible that SIN escaped destruction somehow as many of the weapons being disposed of were often shot into deep space. It's possible that these 'Vagans' discovered whatever unit SIN was installed. SIN had ample time to grow and develop in the emptiness of space, probably going insane due to lack of human contact. If the Earth Federation thought that the existence of SIN as a threat of an A.I uprising I could see them wishing to destroy it, but the destruction of entire colonies? I think they would have to have more motivations beyond wishing to get rid of SIN." The old man states.

"You said that MADNUG adapted to her pilot's style. Could you tell me a bit about the original pilot?"

"You'll learn when you hear my story. Besides that, what do you wish to know?" The old man asks, seeming tense at the mention of Arthur.

>>

No, Rysis was the Char of his series. Of his time, I mean. Besides, Char Aznable, even if he did exist in this timeline somehow, would be just a historical reference. UC 79 is supposed to be in the 2060s or thereabouts, right? Char would be ancient history to a man of the year 3000.

"Well, I'd love to hear your story, if that's okay with you." You say and the old man nods.

"Once I tell my story you won't be able to ask me anything else. You have to understand that. You need to ask all your questions hear and now or they won't get answered. Is there anything else you want to know?" The old an asks.

Well Dirk? Anything else you wish to ask the man?

"Okay then. Number one, do you know anything about the X-Rounders? Number two, do you have any blueprints you could spare? We desperately need an edge against the Vagans, and they won't stop until everyone in the Federation is dead and buried."
>>

I have a feeling we are missing something important.

How about the AI in the colony with the kidnappers?

And more information on cybernetics and X-Rounders?
>>
>>27270609
This. And there's also the question why didn't he share all his knowledge with the historians.
We know there's a lot of people who're curious about the Colony Wars.

And who is the man he thought sent us?
>>
>>27270153
"I suppose you're right about SIN not being on its own a big enough threat. It's just the only one I can think of that's close to legitimate cause, and the Federation's leadership has gotten pretty trigger-happy. I don't know, maybe there's something more to it. It's better than thinking my government is completely corrupt and attacked Vagan just for political expediency, at least.

"I guess I'm done with my questions. You've filled in a lot of gaps I had. Before you start on your story, is there anything I can do for you? After all, MID would be heartbroken if we found his grandfather only to abandon him. How about we exchange contact information? That way you can call if you ever need anything, and MID gets to know his grandpa is never too far away."

"That's...unusual. You're not set to explode if you reveal too much about your identity, are you? Okay, if this is my last chance to get information, and you're offering: Why was CDACE installed at Minsry colony, and why not give him the ability to exit without destroying the place? How common were cyborgs like Rysis Dutch back during the Colony Wars? Do you know what happened with the Gundam that it was found lodged inside a colony wall instead of properly decommissioned? Is there any evolutionary technology you can give me that would help with the AGE System? Speaking of which, are you resentful that the Asunos have basically claimed credit for your work, or do you feel that they've modified it enough in the past century and a half that it's a unique invention at this point? Why didn't you tell anyone else your historical knowledge? Who were you expecting to have sent me? Was it Travis Touchdown?"

"Okay then. Number one, do you know anything about the X-Rounders? Number two, do you have any blueprints you could spare? We desperately need an edge against the Vagans, and they won't stop until everyone in the Federation is dead and buried." You ask.

"X-Rounders were merely a theory back during the war. There was some experimentation and observation regarding the X-Region of the brain but no one paid it any attention, A.I weapons were the focus of the war. As for blueprints, I have none. I don't have anything I can give you except answers" The old man says sadly.

>>27270609
"What about the A.I on Minsry? The one with the Kidnappers?" You ask.

"Hmmmm. It sounds familiar. CD-something it was called. Just a standard Colony Defense Mobile Armor with a custom A.I. Probably escaped destruction because the colonists never had to use it and forgot where it's hanger was, or didn't want to bother with the costs of dismantling it. They're reliable and tough, capable of evacuating entire colonies given enough time." The old man comments. "They were built to defend and only to leave in the face of the colonies destruction. Think if it like a armed and armor life raft. If the outside and inside forces were overwhelmed it would move to support them and in the face of eminent defeat, save as many people as possible and blow a hole in the colony. They are pretty fast and capable of atmospheric flight and re-entry, a few of them were used by emigrants to land on Earth in secret."

>How common were cyborgs like Rysis Dutch back during the Colony Wars?" You ask.

"Fairly common, but mostly on the Colonists side. Cyborgs were expensive and if modified improperly, psychotic and temperamental. If done properly they could live for a long time, until their organic components deteriorated of course. If they had been combined with the nano-tech in development at the time they could survive even longer." The old man states, frowning at the mention of Rysis.

"Do you know what happened with the Gundam that it was found lodged inside a colony wall instead of properly decommissioned?" You ask.

"From what you've told me, most of the 'old war tech' that's survived fell into areas that were not technologically active. The inside of a colony wall, the mostly nature filled colony like Minsry. I don't know why the Gundam survived decommissioning, but it probably has to do with where they where put and who couldn't find them..." The old man says.

"Is there any evolutionary technology you can give me that would help with the AGE System? Speaking of which, are you resentful that the Asunos have basically claimed credit for your work, or do you feel that they've modified it enough in the past century and a half that it's a unique invention at this point?" You ask, giving a brief explanation of the AGE System since he's unfamiliar with it.

"Like I said before, I don't have anything to give you. Besides, MID is essentially the evolutionary technology, but the only way you'd get it is if you completely dismantled MID which would kill him."

"Why didn't you tell anyone else your historical knowledge? Who were you expecting to have sent me?" You ask, once again causing the old men to frown.

"You'll learn when I tell my story." He says once again.

"Oh alright. We'll trade contact information when I'm done with my story. Once that's finished you'll know exactly who I am and where I'll be...So, any last questions?" The old man says with a smile as he rummages in his coat pocket and pulls out a pipe.

"Zarth once housed many research centers during the colony nation wars. Some known, some unknown. There was so much there that it's not surprising that something escaped destruction."

""Also, that SIN AI I told you about? It apparently has the capability of creating some remotely controlled drones that can self-replicate. Do you think they are based on that evolutionary tech you invented?" You ask and the old man shrugs.

"It doesn't seem like it. Drones were used during the Colony Nation Wars, A.I's controlling smaller 'dumb' A.I's. I doubt it took a lot for SIN to design them, as for self-repair and self-replication that sounds more like A.I tech, not evolutionary tech."

"Now is there anything else you want to ask?"

“My name is…Uther. Uther King. Shortly before the colony nations war began, I was a young designer desperate for work. I was the top of my field in electrical and mechanical engineering, but I was…bored at the prospect of conventional weapon design.” Uther stated, as he sank deeper into his armchair, trying to get comfortable

“Growing up I was obsessed with a lot of the animation coming out of Japan, which featured giant robots and cyborgs. I studied engineering to try and bring my childhood entertainment to light, but my attempts to build a bipedal locomotive combat mech were hindered by the conventional weapons at the time.” Uther looks up and stares away from you, looking out the window into the rainy, dreary day outside. The rain cycle started up shortly after he began, talk about timing...

“They said ‘What was the point? Why build mechs when tanks and jets work just as well with a fraction of the cost?’. I became the laughing stock of the entire world and it awakened a sense of vulnerability and inferiority I hadn't felt since I was a child. For a while I made my living off of assisting others with their projects while trying my best to complete my research despite everyone. I feared that my research would inevitably fail and slowly moved into the field aeronautics and space technology, looking for something to keep me distracted…that am when I met her.”

(Cont)
>>
>>27271516
Uther smiles a bit and looks back at you to speak, the sadness radiating from him ceasing for a moment. “Her name was Igraine, and she was the sweetest, most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. I met her while I was on a job hunt. Both of us were trying to get the job at the same company, but we were both turned away and left quite broke. We decided to share expenses while staying in the colony. We ate, talked, and slept in the same hotel room for about a month while looking for proper jobs. I ended up getting her pregnant and confessing my love for her and she said she felt the same way and married me shortly after the child was born. For a while I forgot my dream of mechs, and for a little while I felt like I was worth something…”

The old man’s smile slowly withers from his face into a frown, and then into an outright glare. “Then the war started. At first it was small things, bickering between space settlements, peaceful demonstrations, and occasional acts of terrorism. However it grew and grew and grew to the point where the Colonies were threatening to invade Earth. The Earth Federation needed a weapon that could fight in space and take out ships with ease. I knew almost immediately that my mech designs could easily be modified for space combat and the Federation was so desperate I could get my funding in an instant. However I realized if I did my weapon would be used to kill thousands, maybe millions of people. I had a son and a wife to think about, their love for me allowed me to think and care about others even when they didn’t care about me, but when that all changed when my wife asked me for a divorce…”

(Cont)
>>
>>27271589
You can see a tinge of anger in the old man’s eyes as he speaks. “My wife confessed that she never truly loved me. When she became pregnant she was concerned about the child’s safety and married me out of pity after seeing how lonely I was. Now that the child was fairly grown she didn't see a point in keeping up the charade any longer. I had been living a lie! The one thing I thought made me important, made my life worth living turned out to be an act! I was filled with hatred and sadness that consumed my entire being. However I couldn't bring myself to strike Igraine. So instead of taking out my anger on my wife, I took my anger out on humanity.”

Uther’s anger once slowly fades into tears as he speaks and he stands up from his chair, disappearing into the kitchen for a moment. He comes back with a beer and sits back down, chugging the thing down in one gulp before continuing.

“I helped the Earth Federation design a mechanized weapon capable of fighting not only in space, but on the land and in the air. I poured everything I had into the project, which was mostly my hatred. That day I gave birth to my second son, the mobile suit. Where Arthur was born out of love and happiness, this son was born out of hatred and sorrow. He would go on to fight the Colony forces and obliterate all that stood in his path. However it wasn't enough for me. Perhaps I felt bad for the colonists, maybe I couldn't stand the smug over confidence of the Earth Federation soldiers, or maybe I just wanted to know it would kill more people. Regardless of the answer, I began to help develop weapons for the Colonies in secret and soon they had mobile suits of their own.” Uther shifts in his seat, trying to find a comfortable position, but it’s like he’s sitting on pins a needles while he talks.

(Cont)
>>
>>27271589
Yup, he's Arthur's dad. I have to say, Uther, you are terribly unimaginative. Then again, you married a woman named Igraine. Not much choice for you to name your kid but Arthur.
>>
>>27271637

“Every time the war would be gained in someone else’s favor, I would develop a weapon that pushed things back to the status quo. I quickly grew rich and powerful, and it became a well-known secret that I developed weapons for both sides. The Colonies and the Federation didn’t care, they just wanted to win. The feeling of weakness and inferiority that had once been held back by the love of my wife and son, were now held back by money and power. I began to develop ways to ensure the war would go on and I would live longer. Nano machines, cybernetic implants, and information control methods were produced and used. Every battle that was fought, every death that occurred, every weapon that was fired and every move that was made was recorded and stored for analysis. It was easy really, everyone bought weapons from me whether they knew it or not. Planting data transmitters in all of them was easy. Slowly I began to build a massive database of information to ensure my achievements would never be lost or forgotten…however I was a fool. As I perpetuated the war, I forgot about my first son, Arthur. He had tried to live his life in peace, but everything he loved was torn away from him by the war I so lovingly sought to perpetuate. He became a mobile suit pilot and by the time I realized what I had created it was too late, he had found me.” Uther looks down at the ground, avoiding eye contact with you as he speaks. Then he leaves for the kitchen and comes back with a 12 pack of beer.

(Cont)
>>
>>27271706
He sits in silence, ether too afraid to speak or too guilt ridden. Eventually he does continue, after a few more beers. “Arthur had become like me in more ways than one. He always felt like he didn’t belong, that he was weak and inferior. Despite all this best efforts to be kind and caring, he became the most hateful person of all. He became a mobile suit pilot and a monster, fighting to stop the war no matter the cost. He hated the war with every fiber of his being, and for good reason. First he lost his mother, then he lost his home and his friends, then he lost the love of his life and the love of his life ended up his mortal enemy. While I thought I was perpetuating the war, I was in reality bringing about its sharp and sudden end. When Arthur found out that I was behind everything, he came after me with a force I have yet to see again in my life. No matter what I threw at him, what I said, he just kept pushing, kept fighting, kept killing! By the time he got to me I was a trembling wreck and the colony I was in was a burnt husk, civilians and all."

(Cont)
>>
>>27271725
Uther’s eyes are wide and filled with horror, as if he was experiencing it all over again. “Arthur didn’t kill me though. He didn’t lay a finger on me. He stripped me of my wealth, my fame, and my ego. Arthur had me imprisoned and used the nano-machines to stop me from dying of old age or disease. He turned me back into the weak and scared child I had once been and insured I would be that way the rest of my life. Before I was placed into my cryogenic prison he told me that he had handed over the database I had ordered built to the Federation and was going to ensure it was locked away where no one but him would see and use it..."

“I slept for nearly 100 years. When I was awoken, no one knew who I was or what I had done. I tried to explain, but no one would listen. Everything I did was rendered ineffective by someone. It was like I was a puppet on a string, everything I made a move to show the world the truth, a string was pulled and it ended in failure…” Uther looks up at you and stares into your eyes intently.

“I’m a prisoner in my own body, kept alive but on the brink of madness. I've been rendered worse than dead, I've been forgotten. Forgotten except by one man. Arthur.” Uther begins to shake and you can see pain on his face as he grasps his chest. “I’m the greatest war criminal in history and my two greatest crimes are my sons, Arthur and the mobile suit. Both still plague this world, twist it, warp it, and in the end control it.” Uther falls out of his seat.

Try to give him any sort of first aid while calling the hospital and reporting an emergency.
There's still stuff you need to tell us, Uther!
>>
>>27271973
What's the odds that Arthur is also in that body, and just woke up?
>>
>>27271973
Good question. Apparently his nanomachines are consuming him from the inside at Arthur's command. Which makes me wonder why THIS attempt at revelation is the one that finally incites Arthur to kill him for it. Maybe he's just in horrible pain, not actually dying. Still, not sure what we can do against hijacked immunocytes. Could we manage to fight them off with our nanomachines? We'd have to drag Uther back to the Diva and inject him, and it probably wouldn't work, but we should still try it. At the very least we'll cause such chaos in his system that it burns him out and lets him die. That's...kind of a victory, right? Given the circumstances?
>>
>>27272082
Or he just poisoned himself now that he told us about Arthur. He probably expected someone to come for him.

Anyway, we should see if we can do anything to save Uther. He didn't explain how Arthur controls the world or how's he still alive.
Or how he changed his last name into Crocker.
>>
>>27272082
As you attempt to make a call to the Diva to get a car out here, hoping you can do something for Uther back at the ship, he grabs your hand and forces something into it. “Don’t allow anyone to reverse engineer my sins. Please try to see the truth, Stop Arthur. Look for a man by the name of Edol Inertia...he...knows...every...th-" Uther whole body goes limp and his head falls back, staring up at the ceiling.

You look into your hand to see what Uther gave you and discover it’s a photograph of him, a women, and little boy who looks a lot like your dad did when he was a boy...

Edol Inertia? But he's dead with his brain preserved inside SID. Though I suppose Uther wouldn't know about SID. Looks like the hunt for the EXA-DB is on. Yay us. God damn do we keep stumbling into intrigues. Remember when the most you had to worry about was the attack on Big Ring, Dirk? Now you've got...I think it's four conspiracies you have to deal with? Admiral Flit and the attempted murder of Emily Dyson, the Vagan spy on board the Diva, SIN and Ezelcant's plans for Eden and now a fucking Illuminatus. Fuck. We're going to need some major upgrades by Gen 3, that's all I can say. Because I don't know how else we're going to survive to the end.
>>
>>27272407
Well, I guess we'll have SID on our side in the coming battle, if the thing isn't already berserk. And there's Rysis, who is probably our best bet to calming or approaching Arthur.
>>
>>27272538
I'm starting to think we might not be safe anywhere in the Earth Sphere, if Arthur is that powerful. Anyone want to see if we can spin Bisidian off into a full-blown nation and head off to colonize another planet? We've got nanotech and a warp drive, we might be able to leave this whole thing behind.Seriously, let's go to Alpha Centauri. Or at the very least Jupiter. Just load everyone into CDACE, strap him to the back of the Treasure Star, and get the fuck out of here.
>>
>>27272652
I doubt that'd stop Arthur if we piss him off. He's a Crocker, after all. And an evil one. Though he might be a nice and friendly guy when we meet him aboard the Dagon, fixing some suit and humming some stupid catchy song.

Also, considering how Dirk's just stumbling around from one interplanetary intrigue into another, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as captain of Bisidian simply so he can hide for a while from all the shit that's after him.
