Raggarrz twirled his sonar stalks, a traditional Gizmati sign of irritation, as he slithered across the small office. Raggarrz had joined the Union Planetary Registrat for a cushy and unchallenging position to coast in until his next rebudding. Alas, his supervisor had other plans for him, constantly saddling Raggarrz with trainees, ostensibly because of his previous position as a [senior morale/duty exemplar officer] for the marines of the 7th Battalion. However, Raggarrz had his own suspicions of his supervisor’s motivations, mostly regarding the fact that in another three cycles he would be eligible for another government pension.

As he moved toward his trainee of the month, Verrguush, Raggarrz wondered if this time his supervisor would succeed in its quest for his resignation. Despite his proximity, the girl continued to strobe just as brightly as she had when first calling his attention, when he was coiled twenty motiles away, his back turned and both photophones blaring at max. Raggarrz placed a manipulator on her back and blinked {Junior Verrguush, why’re you so panicked?}
>>
>>27263830
Verrguush flashed back angrily {Senior Instructor Registrator Raggarrz, these thrice blasted non-Unionist savages have multiple egregious errors on their system registration forms! [Look]! They have registered mining operations on several impossibly dense asteroids, and have absolutely no hab-satellites, and those are not even the worst.}

Raggarrz picked up the trembling data slate. As he read it his sonar stalks began to coil in surprise. Verrguush was correct, {No hab-satellites, not a single space port, and what’s this, a class 3 inhospitable planet listed as the primary population center?}

{You see, Senior Instructor Registrator?} Verrguush flashed petulantly, {I am not being detail oriented to the point of detriment this time, this is a serious misfile.}
>>
>>27263848
Raggarrz wirggled in agreement as he flicked back to see which species had the extreme misfortune of dealing the Registrat’s Corrections Department. {Ah. Junior Verrguush, please cancel your form rejection notice. This is a Human claim.}

{A Hyoo-what?}
{Human. They’re before your time. [Hell], they’re before mine. My sporefather saw one of the last Human ships before their Dominion closed its systems to us. Not like we saw them much before, they apparently [Echolochated] using photons if you can believe it. Communications gave everyone a migraine. Here, this is their homeworld. They call it Earth.}
>>
>>27263881
{Senior Instructor, are you pulling my [leg]? This so-called homeworld is a class 9 inhospitable planet. Almost a third of its mass is iron. The gravitational field would crush any species but the Korok’x. And… and the temperature fluctuations on the surface… why there is hardly any troposphere or stratosphere at all! The radiation alone…}

Raggarrz twinkled brightly with amusement, {Oh, if you think that’s shocking just wait until you echo the planetary interior dossier. A shattered mantle, first time we’ve ever seen multicellular life on a planet with a shattered mantle. Apparently got that way because of the naturally occurring nuclear fission in the planet’s center!}

Verrguush quit flashing, and began to glow with a dull shade of amazement. Raggarrz continued to twinkle softly as he grabbed the data slate and returned to his desk. {My poor luckless Junior, this file’s a pay grade or two above your rank. I’ll sign it off, better not to have such an irregularity on your performance history.}

Reading. Also I bet when the Gizmati and the Humans met the humans poked one in the eye to see if it withdrew it's stalk into it's head.
>>
>>27263939
>>27263925
That's the end of part one, here's the start of part two, still working on it.

X’curd sat, hunched over a tankard of mold brew, blearily staring at the vibrating telesionic screen. {And in other news a representative from the Union Planetary Registrat is issuing a statement about the rumors regarding the enigmatic Humans. We’ll patch you into the live feed} The TS screen went quiet for a second, before vibrating once more, revealing a hassled looking Gizmat standing before a sea of journalists. {No, the rumors regarding a Human invasion are completely false; otherwise you would be speaking to someone from the Protectorate Ministry. The Humans have merely registered a claim on the Galactis system, which barely falls into the 100 light year radius of informed colonization that surrounds the Union, as specified by the Non-Interaction Pact of 2437.}

A Klagracht reporter jerked up, its translator suit bringing its bio-luminescence to a less invisible wavelength {This one questions your claim of non-hostility. This one has seen reports of the void-ships warping into the system! The Human hull plates are made out of ultra-dense, combat grade materials! A steel-tungsten alloy? Even the Unutterable Rejection does not boast such defenses!}
>>
>>27264012
{… No, there does not appear to be any hostile intent. This is a perfectly normal, by known human standards, civilian colony.}

The telesonic cut back to the studio just in time to show a sea of flashing lights as journalists attempted to luminesce their question next. {My sincere apologies loyal viewers,} Flashed the hostess, {We’ll attempt to reestablish a feed with the Planetary Registrat once our technicians filter out all the light. In the meantime, let’s talk with some experts about the meaning of the new hu-}

Cr’tet, the barkeep, switched the channel to the local Vringorb game, arriving just in time to see the K’likt Lancers fall an additional 4 points behind the Korok’x Planetary Defense Team. The score now stood 36-2, with the Lancers enduring another beating. X’curd shook her head miserably, {First the Humans are back, and now the Lancers can’t even manage to lose respectably anymore?} flashed X’curd as she proffered her empty tankard.
>>
>>27263939
>when the Gizmati and the Humans met the humans poked one in the eye to see if it withdrew it's stalk into it's head.

Best HFY in a long time. 100% encompasses human nature without all the ubermensch ooohing and aaahing.
>>
>>27264330
I wrote a quick bit about an alien muttering about just how ODD humans are, in particular a Russian/Easter European geologist named Ivan he'd bunked with.
>>
>>27264256
Cr’tet flashed as he filled her tankard with more mold brew, {Well be fair, Bl’gresh is injured again, and she’s the only player on the team worth half a tankard of this swill.}

X’curd turned a dull shade of disgust, {Is there ever a day when she isn’t injured? I swear, the Lancers need some of the old military discipline. If I could give to them what I gave to my recruits back in the day you’d have a real Vringball team.}

{That, or they’d all be dead. Come on X’curd, even an old axe like you can’t possibly want to go back to the times before the breeding limits. I thought you females enjoyed not being disposable any more.}

{Oh being female may have chewed fragmar gonads, but it made us strong Cr’tet! As if a male like you would understand. You had to prove you were worthy of life, not given it like these soft-shelled new hatchings.}
So is everyone having a good time ITT?
>>
>>27264459
Yep, continue OP
>>
>>27264459
Cr’tet looked as though he was about to flash something about drinking too much mold brew, when he was interrupted by a blaring of light as a young Korok’x barged up next to X’curd. {Honorable Foreman X’curd! It is good to see you! My friends do not believe that you once faced the Humans in ship to ship combat! You must correct this misapprehension, for the honor of the entire 493rd Construction Brigade!}

X’curd turned her head down the bar to echo a circle of females flashing softly and clicking their mandibles nastily. {D’ken, why do you turn to an elder for this affront to our honor, when your claws are answer enough?}

D’ken waved her photo-frills in apprehension, {But Honorable Foreman, such would not dispel their primary claim that you never faced a Human in the sphere of battle! Words would still be flashed.}

X’curd turned to Cr’tet {You see? Soft-shelled.} X’curd turned back to her workmate, {In my cycle however hit the hardest decided what truth was the truest.} {It’s why most of the old [boxers] were coincidentally great historians} interjected Cr’tet. {Ignore the uppity male D’ken, he blinks faster than he thinks.}
>>
>>27264824
X’curd continued {Yes, D’ken as a matter of fact I did meet a human ship in combat. This was back in the day when the Korok’x weren’t weaklings who spend more time scraping their own mandibles rather than their foes’. We were performing a privateering action, because that’s how we used to greet species back in the day. Anyway, we hit struck a human merchant formation an-}

{The Humans used their terrible [iron flinging magnetic cannons] to sunder your force in twain, leaving you the only tragic survivor?} strobed D’ken.

{What? No, that’s moronic. They’re merchant ships. Human merchant ships. They almost never have weaponry. It’s why we thought it’d be a good idea to raid them. That and the fact that humans have some of the slowest void-ships in the galaxy. Anyway, our boarding lasers took so long to cut into the hull of the first void-ship we caught that the rest of the fleet was able to escape to the outer system and jump away.}
>>
>>27265046
{You see, Humans live on ultra-high gravity worlds, so high that for a while everyone thought that the simple caloric requirement of standing up made sapient life impossible. But humans did it, and it’s on these metal-rich worlds that the make the strongest hulls in the known galaxy. You heard about those steel-tungsten hulled void-ships on the telesonic? That’s a civilian grade hull for them. It’s why they don’t pack point defense lasers on their void-ships. It’s why their void-ships are so damn slow in system. Those massive hulls.}

{But you cut through the hull right? You fought the savage human warriors and they tore through your ranks with their freakish high gravity muscles?} D’ken flashed desperately.

X-curd rubbed her secondary forearms together in exasperation, {D’ken… are you ready to be vastly disappointed? Yes the boarding lasers did cut through their hull. After thirty planetary rotations. By the time we breached the Human void-ship we didn’t have enough reserve fuel to make the return trip to base. [Hell] we didn’t even have enough fuel to maneuver away from the human void-ship. So the humans ended up carrying us [piggyback] all the way back to Garrison Station V’raxes.}
>>
>>27265503
All three of D’ken’s photo-frills sagged, broadcasting disappointment. X’curd leaned back slightly, and sipped from her tankard. {The Human captain ended up charging the garrison some 50,000 credits. Towing and vehicle storage costs he called it.} X’curd, stood and glanced over to her deflated workmate. {My apologies D’ken} She twinkled, {I’m sure you had quite the story made up too.} X’crud clicked menacingly as she walked towards the circle of D’ken’s peers {Let’s see if our claws can make it true.}

Jyoshish sniffed in irritation. She was hoping to have some more time off camera to relax, but of course the scrubs in the Union correspondence department couldn’t managed to hold an orderly Q and A session if their lives depended on it. Jyoshish examined her panel of supposed experts. A Gazmati former special agent, who managed to get the only recording of a human battle-ship firing its weapaonry. An aging Korok’x rear admiral, who when she was merely a simple garrison commander, had to negotiate the return of one of her raiders from a Human merchant. And finally a Klagracht academic, who held the dubious distinction of being the only sentient in the Union to actually stand (or more accurately, float) inside a human void-ship.

Jyoshish kept her jaw shut as her tongue luminesced into a microfos in her mouth, {Syensuush, what, by Great Myulesh’s Mane, is this panel? Weren’t you able to get that one Frenian linguist who figured out how the Humans communicate through sound?}

{I’m sorry dearest,} responded Syensuush through a photophone hidden in her mane {Union Data Distributors managed to snag it. Be glad though, form what I hear that Klagracht is much more personable.}
>>
>>27265971
{… and I am commander Braggreen, pleased to make your acquaintances.} Jyoshish fluffed her mane, and began to flash, {Thank you former commander Braggreen, and the rest of our experts for being here today…} {Mlop} Syensuush blinked {Mlop, I think we should start with you, is it true that Humans require photoluminescence to echo?}

{Yes, Jyoshish,} Mlop replied in a painfully shrill photo-frequency {Being on a human ship is one of the least comfortable experiences I have ever had. Their lights create a constant deep thrum the fills the entire ship, and the lack of any sort of vibralamps makes navigation next to impossible. It’s an incredibly disorienting experience.}

{But there was at least some attempt to accommodate you correct?}

{Oh yes, the Humans ended up giving me my own cell to stay in, no lights on at all! They even presented me with a powerful cylindrical shaped vibralamp. For whatever reason the males of the ship were incredibly amused when the designated liaison presented me with it.}
>>

{Truly an inscrutable species. But perhaps not ill intentioned. Admir-}

{Oh no, not ill intentioned at all} interrupted Mlop. {But still not entirely safe to be around. They might not look too large, but they are a massively strong species. I once ventured onto their so called grav-deck, which recreates gravity with centripetal force. I was pinned to the floor, unable to move or even breathe! Never felt I would co-}

{Yes, Mlop, I would dread to contemplate a universe without you as well,} Jyoshish, flashed, unable to endure any more of Mlop’s shrill flashes, {But we must move on to Admiral Dl’fen. Admiral, you yourself communicated with Humans before, this time with the aid of a translator. What is your opinion of them?}

{Well Jyoshish, I’ll be frank, these humans are quite the unusual breed. I know a ransom demand when I echo one, but I have never echoed one delivered so amicably. The Humans were all smiles, which is disconcerting until you realize that baring your teeth is considered a friendly gesture among them.}

{How very odd indeed.}
>>
>>27266192
>They even presented me with a powerful cylindrical shaped vibralamp. For whatever reason the males of the ship were incredibly amused when the designated liaison presented me with it.}

>>
>>27266444
{It is quite so. They are very unlike us in more ways than the fact that their senses are all backwards. Honestly, I’m glad I only ever met one over a vibrascreen, they are an extremely hard-shelled group.}

{Ah indeed Admiral,} Jyoshsih replied {They are quite… hard-shelled. You have been silent for most of this discussion former commander Braggreen, what would you flash?}

{I flash that the humans are not the large, amicable, yet ultimately harmless titans that my colleagues suggest. They are the most alien creatures the Union has ever uncovered, and we are fools not to view them with more suspicion.}
>>
>>27266709
{Excuse me?}

{Unlike the esteemed Admiral, I have actually seen a Human war-ship. And I have seen it in action. These magnetic cannons they use are unlike anything we possess. They are abominations and until we purg-}

{Cut to commercial! Cut to commercial cut to commercial cuttocommercial!} Syensuush strobed desperately

{And that’s all the time we have for this panel today viewers. Galactic News Network will be right back after a word from our sponsors.} Jyoshish flashed urgently.
>>
>>27266720

That was nice. The racism/PURGETHEXENO part made me laugh. I'm curious how humans think of the Gizmati and want to see them interact with eachother.
>>
>>27263830
Raggarrz twirled his sonar stalks in irritation as he slithered across the small office.
>>
>>27266720
{What, by the Great Myulesh’s brooding pouch was that?!} Vyinsaash strobed furiously.

{My apologies boss,} Jyoshish flashed softly {I had no idea the guest line up had a crazy like Braggreen on it}

{Well then do some Myulesh damned research before signing on a bunch of guests, especially for something like the Humans! A largely unknown and completely alien species brings out all sorts of crazy. We’re not like UDD, we don’t just put things on air to stir people up and win ratings! We’re better than that damn it!}

{It’s my fault bossman,} Syensuush flashed miserably, {I completely failed to vet the guests, I was trying to have a line up ready before UDD did. I got caught up in the hunt.}
>>
>>27266979
{Well la-dee-fucking-da! I guess that cleans up the mess you two managed to make! Already the UDD and Stellar Broadcasting Systems have latched onto this “humans are a menace” narrative. We’ve got Brag-gangrenous-een on SBS with Zyomish Styesh and his cancerous little show “The Facts of the Day” spouting off all sorts of nonsense,} As he flashed Vyinsaash brought up SBS on his telesonic.

{-all of which clearly indicates that Humans are the great foe the Creator… created… for us to struggle and prove ourselves against. Otherwise why would their very words pain our [acute echo location sensors] and blind us?} Braggreen flashed smugly.

Zyomish sat behind his desk, mane gelled into esoteric shapes, photo-sensors leaning forward, as if the Gizmati was flashing great wisdom.
>>
>>27267117
Is Zyomish a parody of O'Reilly or Beck?
Limbaugh?
>>
>>27267117
Vyinsaash quickly changed the channel to UDD where a Frenian reporter spoke to a Korok’x, in a [man] on the street segment. {It’s true} flashed the Korok’x excitedly {the foreman of my construction brigade fought the humans once, back when she was a [training and disciplinary enforcement officer]. They used their mysterious control over sound to take over the crew’s minds and bring them in closer to board! And when the humans were inside the ship they tore apart the entire crew with their… ugh hands… and teeth! The foreman was the only survivor!}

Vyinsaash’s mane deflated, outrage spent. Syensuush and Jyoshish noticed that he looked much older now, his mane rangy and greying. Vyinsaash turned to face his two subordinates {We are the Galactic News Network. We have an oath as part of the Union media branch to report the truth and keep the peace. Braggreen is an agent of the Creator’s Will Party, been registered with them for years. The Humans are the issue they’ve been seeking for years. Big scary aliens that are almost impossible to communicate with? Massively divergent technology base? They’ll take over the Chancellorship in a heartbeat come the next election. And from there it’ll only get worse.}
>>
>>27267591
{But the GNN is supposed to be a neutral party, free from politics and all that?} Syensuush flashed.

{The GNN is meant to support the Union, and the Creator’s Will Party is completely and utterly inimical to the ideals of the Union. They oppose free thought, speech, and will. They feed on fear and shit out promises of safety. They never mention that it’ll be them you’re hiding from at the end of the day.}

{But what shall we do?} flashed Jyoshish.

{You, and your producer, lackluster as he is, will go on an investigatory expedition to find the Human Dominion, and bring a representative back. You will show the Union that Humans aren’t to be feared. You will fix your errors. Now go.}

Honestly, OP, this is the best kind of HFY. It's not that we're intrinsically better or more capable, we're just fucking weird to everyone else. So far, the only slight criticism I have is that your characters will sometimes use human phrases I don't really see them developing as part of their language, but it helps readability and for the most part you use the translation brackets to show that's not actually what they're saying. So far, it's pretty damn good.

Adventure awaits!

The ceiling vibralamp was extremely old, barely even operational at this point. It left the individuals scurrying along the hanger floor blurry and indistinct. Syensuush despised it. {Have you ever echoed a more [lesser pack rank] docking bay?} he blinked at Jyoshish. {How the Construction Safety Department has time to shut down my [hot tub] for violating waterproofing codes, but not this orbital [incomplete birth] is utterly beyond me.}

Jyoshish pulled back her lips, revealing fangs as she responded {Hold your tongue! The boss could only skim off 670 thousand credits to finance this entire expedition into deep unknown space! I’m not wasting a single credit meeting your ridiculous demands.}

Syensuush’s tongue gleamed in resignation {Fine fine, but think about it, a space port like this… we’re certain to be robbed for what little we have, these are desperate individuals!}

Jyoshish shook her head, mane flowing from side to side. {Vyinsaash said he knew a captain docked here, one who owes him a favor.}

{What, one of these space scum owes Vyinsaash a favor? Dearest one he has the most clear colored tongue in the entirety of the Union, he isn’t a male who would ever do a favor for these reprobates.}
>>
>>27268055
>slight criticism I have is that your characters will sometimes use human phrases I don't really see them developing as part of their language
Actually, I remember Isaac Asimov commented on this, and he basically said that making things (units of measure, time, and distance) alien just for the sake of being alien detracts from a story, especially a short story that's supposed to be limited in length and needs to cram as much plot as possible in as short a space.
I just wish I could find it again; it's in one of his short story collections.
>>
>>27268447
{If his tongue is so clear colored then why would he lie to us about one of them owing him a favor?} Jyoshish blinked back. Then more softly she added {Come now, this Captain Rerrgaat character should be here momentarily anyway.}

Immediately behind them a bio-luminescor blared brightly {Indeed faithful female! The great and glorious Captain Rerrgaat is at your service!}

Syensuuch and Jyoshish twirled to face a tremendously fat gizmati, his girth going so far as to dull the details of his presence even further. Except for the array of aluminum medals across his vest, which rang brightly to their echoes. Rerrgaat undulated in a show of exaggerated respect. {Why I would recognize this echo anywhere! You are the lovely Jyoshish Hasat of the GNN! Truly you are even more enticing in person than over the telesonic!}
>>
>>27268730
Rerrgaat twisted his sonar-stalks to face Syensuush, {And you are… someone. Well it matters not! Any friend of Vyinsaash is a friend of Rerrgaat! Come come my new friends, let us meet in more comfortable quarters} he gleamed jovially as he began pushing Jyoshish and Syensuush towards an abnormally large void-ship.

As they moved toward the void-ship Syensuush motioned toward the medals on Captain Rerrgaat’s [chest]. {Tell me captain} he flashed {how did you earn so many medals?}

{Why valor and bravery my lad! None more valorous or brave than captain Rerrgaat after all!} Twinkled the gizmat.

{Ah I see,} responded Syensuush, {so valorous and brave that the Korok’x awarded you the Spawn Mother’s [Cross], which can only be awarded to Korok’x?}
>>
>>27269205
Captain Rerrgaat twinkled mirthfully at Syensuush {Ah a sharp one you are! Yes, I saved a Korok’x brood queen from brigands many cycles ago, risking life and limb amidst daring maneuvers to come to her aid! She fell in love with me the moment she saw me, declared me an honorary Korok’x, most likely to consummate her affection, but I declined. I could never be loyal to one [woman], not when so many others demand me, such would be the height of selfishness! So she awarded me this medal so that I might remember her.}

They had reached the void-ship as Captain Rerrgaat flashed. It was an angular teardrop, a small cockpit in the front with a tremendous cargo bay making up the rear. The whole affair bristled with point defense lasers, and a rather suspicious looking secondary cockpit beneath and behind the primary. {This blares smuggling craft Jyoshish} blinked Syensuush {Are you certain that it this is Vyinsaash’s associate?}

{I… I am not sure Syensuush} responded Jyoshish as they walked into the cavernous cargo bay. Korok’x deckhands surrounded them, shifting large crates and boxes into and out of the bay. Jyoshish and Syensuush echoed around, photo-sensors twitching nervously. {Rerrgaat, what do you trade in?} Jyoshish flashed, before realizing that the corpulent gizmati was no longer behind them.
>>
I am likeing the capiton. Which is sort of like a cpatain but with extra sylables. Or maybe its extra colors due to context. Hard to tell realy.
>>
>>27269216
The Captain was coiled on a platform overlooking the cargo bay, echoing down imperiously at the two Sillyesh. {Raise the cargo bay door lads!} He strobed. {My apologies, new friends, for I have been a terrible host today.}

Jyoshish and Syensuush echoed around fearfully, they were now trapped inside. Captain Rerrgaat continued to strobe {Yes, yes, a mediocre, plebiscite host! Certainly not one befitting such honored guests! I am afraid I must do something to keep you telling the entire Union of my failure!}

Korok’x deckhands swarmed around the two journalists, clicking ominously. Syensuush strobed up to Captain Rerrgaat {Perhaps an offer of 600 thousand credits might resolve the issue!}

{Ah! If only! Truly if only, but such effrontery is beyond credits to repair! We must look into more drastic action!}
>>
>>27269564
The Korok’x deckhands were now mere [inches] away from the two Sillyesh, their manes pressed flat in fear. {Such is the necessities of life I suppose,} mused the captain. {So what will it be my friends, Klagrachtan Scotch or a cask of Korok’x Mold Mead!? I’m afraid that I seem to have consumed all of the Gizmati Wine, the traditional offering to new friends aboard a ship!}

{I… I suppose… The Klagrachtan Scotch sounds fine} flashed Jyoshish. {And you?} inquired Captain Rerrgaat of Syensuush. {I’ll have what she’s having} responded the bemused producer.

{Lovely! Lasses, it’s time to break out Klagrachtan Scotch for these fine [gentlefolk]! Give ‘em a proper greeting to The Sly Jiggle!}

The nearest deckhands lifted Jyoshish and Syensuush onto their shells, while others scuttled out to find casks of scotch and ale. Captain Rerrgaat slithered quickly down a pole to the floor, and began to strobe out a shanty of the seas:

Farewell an’ [adieu] to you fair Korok’x Lads,
Farewell an’ [adieu] to you Lads of K’zmat,
For we’ve received orders for to sail for old Br’Clesh,
An’ hope very shortly to see you again.

We’ll [rant] an’ we’ll blare, like true Korok’x sailors,
We’ll [rant] an’ we’ll strobe across the solar streams,
‘Till we strike soundings in the warp-way to old Br’Clesh,
From Ushamt to Yinstra is thirty-four lightyears.

We hove our void-ship to, with the solar wind at sou’west, gals,
We hove our void-ship to for to take soundings clear.
In fifty-five parsecs with a fine asteroidal bottom,
We filled our thrusters, up warp-way did steer.

Let every [woman] here drink up her full bumper,
Let every [woman] here drink up her full bowl,
And let us be jolly and drown melancholy,
Drink a health to each jovial an’ true-hearted [soul].

I think I will anon. Maybe I'll even tripfag it up so you guys can find me easily! I'll see what I can do

This very much makes me want to write my own stuff in this universe. Would you mind at all if I wrote some short thing? It wouldn't be canon, obviously, but this is just too interesting of a setup to not put something in.

Shit dude I made all this up on the fly. Feel totally free

Using the same image for OP again would also make it easier for you and your story to be recognized.

Definitely a plan.

Also, here, just thought of a direction we're going

The off key flashing was made all the more painful by Captain Rerrgaat’s own attempts to alter the lyrics, which mostly consisted to attempts to flip genders and species around to better suit his interests. The solar cycle wore on, with continued debauchery and light. And once Captain Rerrgaat slipped into an ale fueled slumber, the [singing] became much more in [tune]. However, Syensuush and Jyoshish were not present to appreciate it, having retreated back to their designated quarters quite some time ago, away from the cacophony of [lightsong].

Jyoshish awoke the next day with a splitting [sensory overload migraine]. She stumbled out of her berth and reached blearily for the vibra switch. The vibrations quickly forced her back under the insulation of her covers [mewling] in pain. Syensuush roused beneath her, and quickly slammed his forehead into her bunk. He strobed brightly in agony, further distressing Jyoshish.

[Senior executive assistant] Kw’mil entered into Syensuush and Jyoshish’s berth to find both Sillyesh cowering under their covers, softly luminescing in pain. {Come on out now, the pair of you. The Captain wants to see both of you in his quarters now.}

(This is my first time writing anything like this, but here goes.)

Jane Finette's computer bank let off a low whirr, and a slip of paper shook itself out of the slit near the base of the block. Jane swung her legs out from under her desk, and kicked hard off the floor. She floated over toward the bank, and tugged on the slip. It came loose with a slight resistance, and she scanned the data from the last deep-sonar pulse. A couple of iron-core asteroids, nothing unexpected, some minor planetoids farther out, and...not much else, really. She sighed, flipped over, and nudged herself back down. Sentry duty, always a dull task, was made even more maddening by her current status as whipping boy for the crew's chores. Really, it wasn't her fault that the tub of repair drones was floating in the middle of the hallway, and it was Frans who put it there in the first place even though she told him not to and...and there wasn't any point in complaining about it. Just more dull sentry duty, in a dull scoutship, in a dull sector.

Galuush could not have felt more panicked if he had tried. His deep-sonar, usually a reliable instrument, was returning readings of unimaginable and impossible objects. Every resonation that came up on the vibrascreen showed a ludicrously dense object maintaining orbit around this minor sun. He flashed for his superiors, and they slithered into the nav room with all possible haste. {What the [hell] is that!?} Senior Scout Captain Sshloor strobed, not alone in his worry. The sonar was picking up more detailed images of the object by the second, and their confusion only grew. What appeared to be a metallic giant had slowly formed into a cylindrical tube, and from there they could echo the minute variations of the outer layer. As the scoutship glided closer, the sonar picked up an [air lock] inset into the side. {Is...is that a ship?} Galuush flashed. {Can't be...} pulsed Crew Officer Mleeru, {nothing is that dense, and nothing would be that big...} Sshloor echoed the vibrascreen to zoom the [returned picture]. As the Gizmati crew stared frantically at the vibrascreen, the sonar picked up another variation in the otherwise seamless "hull". Galuush peered close, and [screamed], flashing colors of every hue and tone as he sped back to his dormitory. The other officers leaned to pick up what he had echoed.

The inside the variation was an oval, with two pits above a central column.

The two pits moved.

Jane was just getting ready to log off from sentry duty and get a nice hot meal when the klaxxons lit up the corridors. The sound and lights were mildly disorienting and she at first assumed it was a drill like the many before that they had done to keep up readiness. The sense of complacency vanished when the captain came on the radio.

'This is not a drill, saying again, this is not a drill. Unknown ship assumed to be hostile sighted and closing. All hands to stations. Again all hands to stations.'

Damn, thought Jane. It's usually boring as all hell then when I just want to get something nice and hot to eat we get this shit.
She sighed internally and grabbed the nearest rung to propel herself to her assigned area in the medbay to prepare for any possible injuries
>>
>>27273033
>I'm not op

Jane floated into the medbay just as they cut the klaxxons. "Well, that's one good thing going for the day", she muttered under her breath. She looked around and found Jonas the head doctor with his back turned. She could tell he was in a deep conversation because his hud was lit up and he was muttering into it.
Just as she was grabbing scrubs to change into, he turned around and stared at her with his usual icy distance.
'You're late', he said.
'Just getting off sentry duty, technically I haven't actually signed off but I figured it would be better to be here than out wandering the halls seeing as we have bigger things to deal with right now'
'I won't accept tardiness, and I certainly won't accept lip. Rest assured your insubordination will be noted on your file. Now go get changed and be ready'
'Yes sir' Jane said as she put up the privacy screen and hurriedly changed. She never did like the guy and now he was going to get her record smeared even more than it was already. This day was shit and getting shittier by the minute. She could sense it wasn't going to end anytime soon.

{The Captain can pluck his sonar-stalks, we’re not going anywhere} Flashed Syensuush irritably.
Kw’mil twinkled dryly {Believe it or not the Captain is in worse straits that the pair of you. Best see him before he gives up on being conscious again.}

The two Sillyesh trundled through The Sly Jiggle’s corridors, surrounded by the intensely grating echoes of Korok’x crewmembers being industrious, diligent, and generally not at all massively hungover. The Sillyesh could not help but envy the Korok’x robust physiology, both of their heads were still strumming from the previous night. This was somewhat ameliorated by the dampeners both of them now wore, softening the vibralamps and obscuring the pulsing flesh around their [sonar patches].

Kw’mil stopped in front of an ornate door, intricately carved with images of a stout Gizmati corsair doing battle across the stars. {Enter} flashed an orb above the door.

Syensuush and Jyoshish stepped into the room and were greeted with the unpleasant echo of an entirely nude Captain Rerrgaat. His vest of medals and tail skirt both lay on the floor, covered in an unpleasant slimy substance, the same substance that now filled the tub Captain Rerrgaat was floating in.

{Rerrgaat I am shocked at you! Are you attempting to seduce us into some [hot tub] hijinks with your glorious form?} teased Jyoshish.

Feel free man, I'm honestly pretty pumped to see other people use my setting

would be awesome if we could get someone to keep going with the encounter on the Gizmati side. I'm more of a human fiction writer

>continuing from Jane's view

Ugh, these scrubs did nothing for her figure as usual. The thought flitted in Jane's head as she came out from behind the privacy screen.
'Any idea of what's going on? Are we going to see anyone in the med bay anytime soon?'
Jonas inclined his head slightly in her direction.
'As far as I know we've gotten hold of whatever it was with our lines and we're dragging it in now. We'll be sending in a crew to investigate whatever it is. Doesn't look human, but then not much does anymore up here.'
Typical response from him, she thought.
'Thanks Doc. Was there anything you wanted me to do?'

>Go to the docking bay to provide first aid if needed
>Stay here, we might need extra hands
>I don't care what you do just stay out of my way. (your choice of what to do)

bumping
>>
>>27273557
Gonna do one more bump with some more story. If this is still up around noon est I'll continue from Jane's point of view

>continuing Jane
>go to docking bay to provide aid if needed

" I'm going to head to the air lock. Be a first responder,"Jane says as she picks up her emergency response kit. Before Jonas could respond she kicked off down the hall towards the airlocks. Knowing her luck somebody would have knocked themselves out getting to their post and she'd have to patch them up. It'd happened before and it never ceased to amaze her how clumsy some of the earthborn people were on their first tours in space. As she thought this she grabbed one handhold after another til she arrived at the locks.
There were a contingent of guards in armored personal suits waiting at the lock. Recognizing one from a patch job she called out
'Shiro, what's taking so long? I figured you would already be in whatever there is out there'

He turned and gave her a quick once up and down through his suit visor, 'You shouldn't be here without a pressure suit on, precautions and what not you know. Sarge is saying it might be a little bit. It's a design we've not seen before. We don't wanna damage whatever it is. We're gonna handle it with kid gloves so you got some time to get a proper suit on. We'll wait on you to go get changed just in case something happens.'

'Right, I'll get right on that Shiro. I owe ya one for watching out for me. Back in a flash' she said as she kicked back a bit in search of an empty suit. Finding one hanging in a utility closet nearby she kicked it on and let the suit's Jeeves system do most of the work. Checking the seals via the hud and visually she was good to go. She got back to a very different scene from what she left.
The whole crew was covered in what looked like fluorescent blinking snails. They were flailing about attempting to dislodge them without much success. Some of them were yelling at the oddly loud buzzing creatures. cont.
>>
>>27276609
>cont.
The yelling seemed to be having an effect on the snails, but not the desired one. It seemed as though the loudest person was covered in them head to toe. Jane just took in the scene trying to figure out what it was she should do

>Scream at the snails as loud as possible
>Begin picking the snails off the people and tossing them back through the airlock one by one
>other
