Repost from /co/
And in a sign of the apocalypse, Pennywise the Dancing Clown is now real and stalking the streets of Northampton:

>A man dressed as a clown bearing a striking resemblance to the notorious film monster Pennywise is spooking residents by posing late at night around a town and waving at passers-by.

>The figure has been spotted in full clown attire around Northampton - and one woman claimed he offered to paint her windowsills after knocking on her front door, despite having no equipment on him.

>There is no explanation for the appearances by the clown

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2421823/Northampton-spooked-man-dressed-terrifying-clown-character-Stephen-Kings-It.

So, are you prepared for clown-pocalypse?

If one clown doing nothing is all it takes, those are shitty towns.

During Hurricane Katrina, some other performers and I started a clown gang to defend our street from looters and protect our selves/supplies.

Clowns in combat boots and kevlar with guns: THAT should freak people out.

I still have a rubber chicken filled with lead shot to make a sap.

Why is there this idea that looters just ransack inhabited houses during major disasters? Or is everybody in new orleans living in a fucking electronics store?

>>27268785

What'd be funny is if there's a drop in crime because all the people who'd be out and about causing trouble but are fearing the cloown so staying in.

Having said that though the trip fag at >>27268860 kinda has a point, in london I got off a coach at straford station (near where the olympics was held) after a week end spent in caravan by the seaside drinking something weaksauce and blue by the crateload, had to pee bad.

Go to the nearest public toilet, huge black guy a half dozen steps in front of me as I'm getting to the outer door of the toilets, he goes in, suddenly just as I'm just about to go through, HE COMES BACK OUT, looking white as a sheet and just walks away from the toilet as fast as nonchalantly possible, I think "huh, weird", step through into the toilets, FUCKING CLOWN AT THE URINAL, not just a clown but a clown who is standing at the urinal with his dick out, not pissing or anything but holding himself like he is, and he's LEERING at me, eyeing me up and down.

I pause, weigh up my options, decide "fuck this shit", stand at the urinal immediately next to him (there was a row of three, he was in the one furthest from the door) and PISS LIKE A BOSS, while this fucking clown is eyeing my junk up, then I hear someone come in and the clown's head whips around like a fucking hawk that's just seen a mouse which I take as my cue to zip up super fast (no shaking, so faint dribbling) and stride out past this poor fat guy who is just frozen in terror.

SCARIEST. MOMENT. OF MY LIFE. But that's how London handles clowns, don't make eye contact (EVER, with ANYONE), and if they kill you at least take a piss first, you know?

Because they were trying to get jewelry, guns, food, whatever. For the most part, communities supported eachother and made it through ok, but there were some people who made it look like Somalia. It really was a mixture of the best and worst or humans durring a societal collapse, but I got no problem saying that there were two men that tried to rape a girl who got strung up from a balcony.

I also won't deny that we didn't ransack for food, medicine and ammo from abandoned buildings. We never entered any place that had people in it, and we only too what we needed.

Honestly, I kinda miss it sometimes. It was kinda like Gangs of Newyork meets the Jokerz gang from batman beyond. We ruled our little chunk, and other gangs learned to stay away.

I spent six years with one, and she was the reason I spent two months riding the rails looking for a place to die and performing for booze money with any vaudeville or burlesque show that would have me.

I see myself in this picture, and reminds me love is too much of a lie. I was a Tramp in love with this pretty little white face with the red button nose. She was my everything; I showed her the world and showed let her find the wonderful person inside herself, while she gave my life meaning and kept me safe from myself.

Years of devotion, and she needs a new thrill, and she wrecks my life to do it. Six years of love and sacrifice and several thousands dollars of wasted wedding deposit later, all because she wants to be miserable, and make me the same way.

Then she named the kid that isn't mine, after my grandfather, to spite me.

Here’s a drink of whiskey to you, Squeeks. I gave you my heart and you ran away with it. Wobbles will always be your drunken fuckup.

The show must go on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nHUSVX6kPo

But enough of this dark place. Time for a happier story: Gropey loses his elephant.
>>
>>27270635
I'll dump my extensive collection of actually good clownporn in /s/ sometime.
>>
"Gropey loses his elephant".

A while back, after breaking up with my then fiance of six years, I decided it would be a good idea to put my face on, pack an old leather suitcase full of my sideshow props and booze, and hop the rails and wander the south. I got several stories from the different shows I crashed, was invited to and started, and this is one of them.

Anyways, three days in, and im half way through texas on a west bound freight train in an empty cargo car with two art school students from Savannah GA. They actually turned out to not be pretentious douchesacks, and wanted to use their summer of amature train jumping for their creative writing class, as asked if they could follow me for a bit.

We got on pretty well, and the girl (we'll call her Rally) played the uke pretty well, and the boy (we'll call Ramble) was an excellent juggler and a quick study of some basic hand magic and clown gags I taught him. We decided that we'd call ourselves the Rabble Rouser's Circus, and took it upon our selves to paint such on our train car, and fill it with hay and balloons. If anyone between Texas and New Mexico have seen us street performing or has pics, I would appreciate them, btw.

Anyways, enough background, this is the story of the end of the week-long adventure and life of the RRC.
>>
>>27270710
For almost a straight week, we went undisturbed in our claimed train car, though as a precaution, we always had our kit ready to bug out so other than the dozens of balloons, balloon animals and posters we decorated the car with, we'd never accidentally leave shit behind.

Anyways, we're all drunk asleep after some great street performances, when we are rudely woken up by a Yardy (train yard security), who is absolutely dumb-founded by our private carnival we have set up.

He's obviously new, because he's utterly confused to why what looks like a circus train car (we stenciled the RRC name on in white real nicely) filled with hay and circus folk is doing on a steel and mail train.

With a belly full of whiskey, and a mouth full of bullshit, I responded knee-jerk with what will be remembered by all four present as something you'll never hear again:

"Oh shit! Oh fuck! Where is the elephant!?!?"
>>

Ramble and Rally are both Literature/Creative writing majors, but both are real into theater (obviously) and caught on real quick. Ramble starts talking on his cellphone like he's trying to contact the rest of the circus, and Rally start bawling her eyes out that "Her sweet little Mugumbo is lost an scared".

By this point we got all our stuff and the Yardie is 100% under the impression that our car got missconnected at the last yard, and that there is an asian elephant that we we're staying in the car with running around the depot.

Its pretty hard not to believe the guy in clown makeup.

So, the Yardie is on his radio, absolutely scared shitless that there is an elephant running loose, and we just keep egging it on, not wanting to get arrested. We start going on that we need to split up and find "Gumby" before she or someone else gets hurt. The Yardie agrees, GIVES US HIS SPARE YARD GATE KEYS, and we all go off, calling for Mugumbo and whistling.

We all meet up at a a fleamarket, and have our final show, with a simple plywood sign that we painted "In loving memory of Mugumbo the elephant" before parting ways. I lost contact with them, and hope both Ramble and Rally safe journeys, and to always keep an eye on their elephant.

>"Oh shit! Oh fuck! Where is the elephant!?!?"

The young lady is pulling out an eight inch long steel nail I hammered through my sinus cavity. This trick is one of the most traditional sideshow stunts, and known as the blockhead.

>>
>>27271825
Oh, well, uh, they're not really stories, just snippets of memories.

I remember celebrating Christmas mass in Nha Trang. It was so packed with people they held two services: one inside the cathedral and one outside. The one outside was 'crashed' by government agents who blared disco music in an attempt to drown out the priest. Also, when we went up for communion you could hear people whispering "westerners! westerners!"

I know now not to call dead people 'corpses' because they were once a human being with lives, emotions, and family until recently. My fire chief told me that after a blue code.

I once put my hand on a whip scorpion in a cave. Neither of us was very amused. Also, a cool way to detect wolf spiders lurking in the grass: shine your light across it. Any spiders looking your direction will reflect the light. They look like emeralds.

Well, it was a decade ago. I'm sure things have changed since then, but yeah they hated catholics. They only let two priests be ordained each year; they thought the church wanted to take over from the inside. Communists, mang.

I only worked as a volunteer firefighter for around a year. It was very rewarding, but very stressful at times. Life tips: wear seatbelts, for the love of god wear your seatbelt -- if you roll your car and you're not wearing your seatbelt, you will die no questions asked; if someone is being electrocuted, don't grab them and pull them, kick them away from the wire; rednecks are good people, they're just fat and misunderstood

*High pressure squirt flowers with mace(Made one, still has some development issues)

*trying to figure out how to make a spring drive strong enough to make some steel chatter teeth that could bite through shoes (that one never happened (gave up)

Money isn't the issue ever. Doing what you think is right always has priority. Been homeless, done odd jobs to keep clothes on my back and food in my belly, sometimes going without. Rescued a couple animals while homeless from people on the street abusing them beating them, stopped a random guy from slitting his wrists with a glass shard by tying his arms behind his back with my belt, helping people does not require anything other than a willingness to try, life sucks a lot of the time, but not helping people because you think you can't do anything is just making excuses for yourself. I'm not saying go jump in a burning building, that is for firemen, but if shit goes down and you're there either get out of the way or help. The phone's for you, it's your humanity calling..

Fuck yeah!

If I might expand some notes as both a clown, and an asshole who gets in fights:

*When someone gets if your face, if you pull out a balloon animal and make it without breaking eye contact before giving it to them, they will stand there dumb founded. I have tested the phenomenon several times, and it always works.

Me: Say that to my face
subject: _______ What are you going to do about it.
>Balloon is pulled from pocket and made into a simple dog
>Balloon is handed to subject
>Subject stares confused and intranced by balloon dog
>Kick him in the nuts/ headbutt his nose into his face.

Follow this up by screaming into their face "WHY ARN'T YOU LAUGHING?" or "DO YOU WANNA HEAR THE PUNCHLINE!?!" and there is no one in the fucking bar who will fuck with you.

*When you are dressed as a clown, if you act like you're through with someone's BS, they will 9/10 be intimidated. The clown is not joking anymore mother fucker. When you give a command in a stern voice, and in a threatening manner, dead-face serious, followed by honking the subjects nose.... They listen.

*You can get out of a lot of shit, because no one wants to admit to the cops that they got shit-kicked by a clown. Ever.

>either get out of the way or help

I... Can I just vent about something for a moment?
I'll spoiler it so nobody has to read my /adv/-tier faggotry.

I was involved in a car crash recently. Some dumbass had run a red light and the bus I was on T-boned them.

My thought process immediately afterwards was something like this:
>pick myself up, dust myself off
>Am I, or anyone around me, in immediate harm? No.
>Who's in charge? Okay, the bus driver and some girl already have things under control. At least two people are on their cell phones with the police.
>Everything cool? Good, now sit down, shut up, wait for the Emergency Response guys to get here, and let them do their damn job.

Everybody talks about waiting for the moment where they can to stand up and be the hero. That all it takes is being in the right place at the right time. I found myself thrust into something approximating that, and I did nothing. NOTHING. I calmly rationalized that there was nothing I could contribute to the situation, and I sat back down.

I mean, nobody was seriously hurt, even the guys in the car managed to get out and walk away, but still. I didn't even TRY.
>>
>>27274019
Except you did try. You saw no one injured, nothing you could do to help, so you did the best thing you could do, and keep out of the way. If someone had been hurt, things would have been different - because you actively checked to see if you could help.
>>
>>27274019
so whats the problem exactly? It sounds like you were going to help if needed, if everything was under control and you couldn't help at all staying out of the way is the best thing you could've done. Im glad you're alright anon.
>>
>>27274019
Everything was already being taken care of it sounds like man, you stayed calm, didn't cause the situation to escalate, and made sure that things were being taken care of. If anything you did a good job even though you don't think you did anything.
>>
>>27274019
You looked and saw that nobody was hurt and everything was under control. Better than me, I saw a car wipe out and probably would have kept driving if another guy in the car hadn't been like "pull over there" and got out to help.
>>

>>

No son, Cuban Pete made bombs in toxins. He discovered the bomb cap, iirc. Forever imortalized in the Space villan 2000 game, if you emag and win, you get a Cuban Pete hat and a bomb.
>>
>>27274678
Well, its a very personal thing based on both character archetype, personality and your face without makeup. It reflects how you interact with the world, people and situations, and thus your clowning habits.

For most clowns, your face is subtlety tweaked and improved until it it perfect, and then is yours for life. Most professionals have an egg registered in England with the clowning archives, which copyrights the face to the clown (painted on an empty, clean egg as per tradition).

Changing a your face is a big deal.

Since I was 6, I have been an Auguste tramp. About two years ago, as I was train hopping and trying to die, I changed to a white face. Its a complicated thing.

Do clowns generally play with or against their actual physical characteristics/personality?

Would it be odd for a cheerful clown to wear a mopey face, and vice versa?
>>
>>27274678
Pete definitely was fast, because when you heard his name you had around three minutes until the station got blown to oblivion. And he finished the bombs long before that, and was usually just fucking around with people. And he definitely was smart. And if one thing is for sure, he was the most robust son of a bitch I've ever seen.

With. Clowns by natural definition are an expression of absurdity focusing on an amplified human personality trait, a character.

Pagliacci Syndrome is actually a real issue, and is caused by forcibly changing your mind set 180 degrees. It can, and will kill you after a while. You play on your real personality to make it seem absurd and cope. To pretend to be anything else is lieing to yourself, and the road to self destruction.

While its not officially a psychiatric condition, its a reference to the opera, as >>27275418 points out.

Paglioccio is being cheated on by Colombia with Harlequin. Everyone knows, and even he does, but he hides his broken heart behind his makeup, before snapping one day and stabbing her on stage.

BTW, found this on the archives: BASIC CLOWN THEORY.

Whats up you're ass? We're doing in-depth research on clownpunk by going to the source, a punk clown.

We're researching for a traditional game.

/tg/
>>
>>27276229
....WHY?!
>>
>>27276229
Get drunk, get homeless, paint yourself like a clown and ride the rails. Perform at any place that'll take you and have people staple money to your chest. Pretty sure it's easy to be like Gropey if you really wanna. Surviving being like Gropey, on the other hand....

I know several people like him. They don't wear clown makeup. I don't envy them one damned bit.

I will say that I like the fellow, just in the same way that I like those people. The clown makeup and performance certainly adds a lot to it. It almost makes it fun and mysterious.

But you only perform for a short time. It's the time OFF the stage, when you aren't performing, that you get to live with the life you've chosen.

And no one should envy that kind of life. Good fucking fuck no.
>>
>>27276262
He makes good money, but he's also from a performing family, so he has connections.

That alone puts him on a level that anyone else wanting to be him couldn't reach.

I got a feeling he's one of those guys who can command a room and talk to anyone, but can't "turn it off". Hes always in "showanship mode" and it probably grates of people after a while and exhausts him.

I respect gropey, but he has my pitty.
>>
So....He hates himself? It explains all the dangerous violent hobbies like boar hunting and steel sword fighting.
>>
>>27276302
Like I said, I know people like him.

There's a certain class of people that have an almost pathological need to perform, to live a certain seedy kind of performance-centered life that's fun to watch or read about, but miserable to actually experience.

He seems like a great guy. And a lot of people like that are! I won't even say it's best that he get out of the life, because he sure as fuck never will and would probably wilt away and die if he tried. A lot of people there don't just do it because it's all they know, they do it because it's all they will ever want to do.

That sort of person is semi-glamorous but also pitiable; the sad clown we all look down on but also sort of admire and respect.

Personally I'm very happy that I've only ever had to live on the edge of groups of people like that, and I'm more than satisfied with my own comparatively mundane life.
>>
>>27275540
Wow. This is what he wrote his thesis on? He's smarter than I gave him credit for.
>>
>>27270654

>>
>>27275168

Anything used in discworld that isn't EXPLICITLY magical is has a real-world counterpart, and generally the more detail PTerry goes into the realer it is.

There's a note at the start of Feet of Clay that the anti-fire system of Ankh-Morpork (close off the downstream rivergates, flood the city) PTerry came up with as a joke he later found out had really been used by Boston, MA and a few other cities.

For all the people wanting excitement or adventure in their lives: No you don't.

You really don't, it is not exciting or fun it is terrifying. It is a difficult life full of so many insurmountable odds. You only hear about the people who didn't instantly go under. You have to actively make bad choices and (only just) live with the consequences. For all the fantastic glory and honour these stories make you think about, the deepest and darkest parts of that life haven't been mentioned or you only casually brush over.

More accessibly, you read all these wonderful stories about heroes, but the stories don't tell you about that mundane time when the hero had a shit. The stories don't truly stress to you how uncomfortable the hero's thighs chafe when he's all kitted out. And the stories can't make you feel the excruciating fear of "my fingers are slipping from this ledge, I AM going to die", not truly understanding and feeling that fear. What is that thing that is your breaking point that you cannot do? You HAVE to do it.

Don't wish for adventure, you'll regret it immensely.

>But if people find out its your bday, you'll be beaten and robbed.

>>

Sorry, Its NOT your birthday.

Karmic justice. If you wander the streets with a button/safetypin and a dollar or two hanging off of it, total strangers will come up and give you a dollar. If someone outs that its not really your birthday, then you're fair game.

Kinda weird, but the "party and death" culture is big on birthdays.

Mr. Clown, you art a modern urban legend. Maybe you are not big right now, maybe you will never be. Your stories, however, have touched a few of us, as is obvious. Good luck on your journeys and I can somewhat commiserate with you for I, too, am an adventurer. The journey is gruelling and ardorous, yes, but the end result is completely worth it. Thank you for being my inspiration for this day and to everyone else for making yet another epic 4chan thread!! For my dying soul, this has been a most humble and happy moment for me. It's always eventually with this crowd, I tell you. I know you, I think, but we are on different paths. Admit it, doing good for others obviates the need to hurt yourself, right?
