Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You've spent the past two days on Xile, the kingdom of Aeolus. The floating island is surrounded by the massive skysever spell. You just might be able to make it alone - if you're lucky - but until you can find some form of protection for your allies, attempting to traverse the barrier is suicidal. Immediate confrontation has been avoided, but Lucifer and his handful of angels are still somewhere on the island.

In the short time you've been there, you were assaulted by a shadowy abomination that could vaporize water, attacked by the largest dragon you've ever seen, and spent the night sprinting away from terrible creatures lingering in a living black fog. After weathering through the night and allowing your party to recover to a safe strength, you journeyed toward Aeolus's palace. The gargantuan castle was silent, but suspicious of traps, you stuck to the main hallways, relying on Sir Flint's ancestry to open magical doors for you.

In the throne room, you met an intimidating construct holding the Staff of Winds, the reason you journeyed to Xile in the first place. It took Flint as a knight of Aeolus's Order, and communicated that it would relinquish the staff, but only after being defeated in battle. It claimed Flint could use any means nessecary to do so, but after hearing Adavan's negative prediction on the outcome of a battle, you decided to back down and search for a way to counter the staff before attacking the construct.

Adavan theorized that the Moonsong, and ancient weapon created by Erebus, might be able to do just that. You've been collecting the shards of that sword along your journey, and, from a diary you viewed earlier, concluded that the shards were used by the Black Hand to catalyze the terrible magic that still lingers in Xile. Auriel balked at the prospect of repairing the Moonsong, but eventually gave in on the condition that, after using it to supress the Staff of Winds, you would destroy it.

You then found Aeolus's legendary treasure room in the bottom of the palace, completely unguarded. The party split up to investigate the golden horde. You briefly spoke with Abigail, but she had an unfortunate reaction to the succubus reagents you've been keeping on your person.

After spending the night, you found a scrap of paper in the palace library indicating that the key to creating new dynamos was their unique housing. It referenced a research center in the city located on the edge of the island. Anxious to investigate, and possibly find some form of functioning transport, you set out for the city.

You found the research center within the city, and a dynamo housing. It lay in the center of a room filled with torn and sundered skeletons. What appeared to be more shards of the moonsong rested within the globe.

You picked up the globe, and a terrible abomination left behind by the Black Hand immediately began to hone in on your position. At first, you planned to lure it back to the palace, so as to pit it against and weaken the construct guarding the Staff of Winds, but the plan proved too risky, and it engaged you in a brief and lethal battle. Just before it overwhelmed you, Temerity's power turned the tables. Abigail used her demonic abilities to destroy the dynamo house, releasing the shards, and destabilizing the magic keeping the creature whole.

Unfortunately, your earth dynamo was lost in the confusion of the battle, and Lucfier beat you to its location.

You see the dynamo ahead - already Lucifer's hands. He's eyeing it carefully, holding it in his palm. Crackling lightning shields his hand like a glove, protecting him from the pain of direct contact. He looks your way as you rush forward, and smiles. "I'm impressed you held onto this through the skysever. I know exactly how I'm going to use it."

You start to Blink -

But he warps away in a spike of light and lightning. You sense him briefly about a half-mile out, and then he's gone, too far for you to sense.

You slam a nearby tree in frustration, hacking off a branch. Auriel leans on it, heaving her breaths after the long sprint. "...sorry, Shadow. I slowed you down."

<...it's not your fault.> You shake off the anger. <What do you think he meant by that?>

"I have a feeling we'll find out at some point. Let Abigail down, I'll heal her." You do so, and Auriel sets to work.

A moment later, you feel two points of magic in the distance. One is earth, and one is wind. They're both huge.

"Or, we'll find out right now," Auriel mutters. She sighs. "This child has a penchant for getting herself hurt."

The rest of the party catches up with you. All heads are turned in the direction of the rising power. "That's back at the palace," Vonnegut says. "Is that the earth dynamo?"

"And the Staff of Wind," Ila says. "Lucifer beat you here?"

<He did.>
>>
Auriel guides an awakened Abigail back to her feet. Abigail glances at herself, as if checking that she's normal again. Her eyes briefly flick to you, then away. Auriel doesn't notice - she's also focused on the distant magic. "He probably thinks he can use the dynamo to counter the staff," Auriel says. "He must have found the construct in the palace while we were in the city."

<What do you think his chances are?>

"Too close for comfort. We need to get over there."

"It'll take us all day to walk back!" Vonnegut protests. "There's no way we can get there in time!"

"If Shadow sprints..." Auriel looks at you. "I doubt you could make it there in time carrying all of us."

You shake your head. <...no. Two at most.>

"Then I suppose you get to pick." She glances at Adavan, then sighs. "Put the skeleton against the tree, Donovan. I'll fix his little headache."

Who do you take with you back to the palace?

Or do you suggest another plan?

Auriel and Flint. Adavan is down and Abigail is messed up after her banshee invocation back there.

Abby because stronk.

Auriel because heal Abby when she tards up.
>>
>>27270121

Auriel - functional, but tired from healing; less available magic

Vonnegut - good

Adavan - woozy from being knocked around, but good

Abigail - ok, still recovering from a lack of control over banshee abilities

Flint - good

Ila - good

>>
>>27270168
I'd leave Auriel behind then unless Moonsong is available and she's capable of/willing to wield it.

Abby and Adavan are still my choice. Vonnegut can't be trusted and Flint and Ila just don't have the kind of power we need.
>>
>>27270168

Flint and Ila are in the best condition voting for them
>>
Can we buy some lightning resistance right now?
>>
If Adavan is in fighting shape shortly after Auriel attends to him, he's the best choice to bring along by a mile. He's a powerful spirit mage who is familiar with his abilities, and we've Servanted him on top of that. It's just a matter of whether he's good to go after Auriel rouses him. We know he's capable of mental attacks that proved effective against Lucifer in the past, at the very least.

Auriel, Flint and Abby are the second tier of choices. Abby is probably the most potentially powerful given who we're up against, but she's likely somewhat exhausted after what she had to do to save our asses from the Erasure construct, and flesh-and-blood people are probably substantially slower to recover than magical skeletons.

Auriel and Flint are similar, with Auriel being more skilled and Flint having more to prove, plus legitimacy that might be capable of turning the construct holding the Staff of Winds against Lucifer exclusively while we are fighting him as well.

I'd lean toward Auriel + Adavan for Elementomachy Rematch, but it's a coin flip for me between Auriel and Flint.
>>
>>27270221
They're also the lowest power, we need some right now.

Further note: most temporary afflictions (headache/dizziness/nausea) will resolve on the way to the palace

>>27270150

You quickly grab your pouch, open it, and put the remaining shards you just collected in close proximity with the larger pieces you've had on hand.

They hum with black power. It reminds you of Temerity...absolute in its darkness.

The blade is completed. You can read the full inscription etched into the blade. There was a second part hidden from you, but now that you have the last shards, you can see the entire thing, two separate lines:

-The Song of the Moon, the Void Twixt Stars-
-The Destruction of Chaos-

The hilt is missing. Despite your efforts, the shards are still separated; the cracks remain. You must need all the pieces in one place to fully complete it.

You return them to your satchel.
>>
>>27270221
They're the least likely to be able to stand up to Lucifer though. Flint because of parasite and Ila because she's all stealth and no power.

>You did convince her it was necessary, albeit while promising you'd destroy it afterward.
I kind of like the idea of trying to repair it with Humanity that was brought up in the previous thread, all the more so because its power seems similar to that of Temerity, and Humanity has already offered to reforge other fragments of Erebus, and this would be a good secondary test run, both for Humanity and to set Auriel's mind at ease in advance for the inevitable reveal that we were actually a part of Erebus.

Maybe offer to destroy it only after she sees what it becomes post-reforging. She's worried about what the old Moonsong was, and if we make it something different, maybe it gets easier to convince her to let us keep our new toy afterward.

>>27270421
>I wonder where the sword hilt would be?

From an earlier thread:
>"It broke when David died, before the annihilation event,"
You honestly think Dave would've let go of the sword his idol Erebus gave to him, even in death? Even if the blade had shattered into a billion pieces? You'd have to pry that hilt out of his cold, dead hands.

I'd put good money on him still clinging desperately to it in the Nether.
>>
I just realized that with just Abby and Adavan they can go all out with the Shadow servant thing. Not only does that mean using Shadow powers like crazy, but busting out the black wings may be a good psychological hit to Lucy to.

<Adavan, Abigail, I want you with me,> you say. <I want as much spirit power as possible. And if the other angels are with him, summons will come in handy.>

Adavan just nods at you. Abigail bites her lip. "...are you sure..." She hesitates. "Maybe Auriel ought to - "

<If I didn't think you could handle it, I wouldn't have asked you to come. You have my power, and your own. I trust you in battle.>

Abigail draws in a breath. Her face sets itself. "Alright. Let's do this."

You grab your two friends, hoist them into a relatively comfortable position, and set yourself on the ground.

"Well try to find shelter near the entrance to the city," Auriel says. "If things look bad, get out. That staff is too powerful to take chances with."

<Understood.> You sprint off through the forest, exploding between the trees at top speed. The wind whistles by you.

This is probably a good idea, but we have to keep in mind that the rest of the group isn't just going to be staying behind in the middle of the forest. They're going to be heading back to the palace as well.

I can imagine them catching up nearing the end of the battle, and having Auriel walk in on that completely unprepared has the potential to be a total shitshow.

Maybe just show the wings for psychological warfare just before engaging Lucifer, and then put them away again immediately. It's not like they're going to be using them to fly or anything.

>>27270626
Auriel said during the same conversation I quoted earlier that it broke during a confrontation with Hyperion.

>"He tried to take on Hyperion. He escaped, but his sword didn't - not in one piece, anyway. We never found the remains."

It's a little contradictory (it broke when dave died/it broke and dave escaped), but the latter is an even better reasoning for thinking Dave still has the hilt.

Adavan and Abby should be able to pin him with mind magic and the neutralizing power of a banshee shriek. This was because David probably WASN'T his true name. Part of Legion's Archonium-babble was talking about how Erebus named him.

>Dave was screaming about how Erebus broke his sword and threw him into the nether back in the Archonium.
Considering how he started seeing everything as being a test, I'd imagine he'd have viewed the sword breaking as Erebus abandoning him even if it was just because he was outclassed against Hyperion.

Or he was actually being truthful, and Erebus caused it to break for some reason while Dave was fighting Hyperion. Either way, I still like the theory.

But we had people arguing that it was somehow utterly irreplaceable and that breaking it would mean losing everything forever, claiming that us being able to study what's left of Xile's engine is meaningless, and trying to argue that there was no correlation between the shell and the monsters.

The sheer amount of stupidity last thread hurt my head, all because people couldn't conceive of their narrative being wrong.
Fuck, there were even people saying that things would have "gone fine" if we haden't rolled a 1, despite the 1 putting us in a save-or-die state (they usually don't) and a DOUBLE SAVE only bringing us back to "imminently fucked because Lucy now has what he needs"

You briefly think to recover in the lake, but you can't waste time. You surge forward to the palace.

>while in the shadow of the forest, you regenerated somewhat
>HP: 54/81
>Mana: 20/58

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9upQviK-k1A

While you're running, the two opposing elements continued to grow in power.

And then the earth magic stopped. To your senses, it rotated fiercely, a point of hard, unshakable Earth like you've rarely felt - but it grows no further.

The Wind continues to rise.

When you emerge from the trees, you have to stop and stare.

The islands holding the palace and its associated structures are gone. They've been swallowed by a cyclone of wind. The massive tornado rotates on the ground, kicking up a huge cloud of dust. It stretches up into the sky, where it meets with the barrier of the skysever, like a giant column supporting the sphere of wind that encompasses all Xile.

In the core of the mighty wall of wind, the earth dynamo still lingers. The protective field it creates is tiny bubble of salvation holding a few points of Light. It feels like a little candle about to be blown out by a hurricane.

"By the goddess," Adavan says. You can only hear him over the roar of the cyclone because he's so close. "I'd forgotten what that looked like."

"There's no way they'll survive!" Abigail shouts. "We've got to take cover!"

Something flies out of the winds, too fast for you to see - a point of Light. It slams into the forest next to you, tearing through the trees.

What do you do?

>forge through the winds into the palace
>leave your allies, then push through the winds alone
>hang back in the forest; Lucifer has surely gone too far
>investigate the Light that struck the forest
>some other strategy
>>
>>27271247
>investigate the Light that struck the forest
At least send a Focus at it. Abby has better senses so see if she knows.
>>
>>27271247

Have Adavan and Abby lay down nightflares to try to lessen the winds around you.
>>
Also, I'm thinking we can use Temerity to wield the Moonsong in some way. Temerity basically assumed direct control of Monstrosity, which was tied to the shards, and the shards were outright said to feel similar to Temerity.
>>
>>27271247
Is he expecting to "wear out" the staff?

Can that even be done?
>>
>>27271247
>investigate the Light that struck the forest
Looks like Lucy just got his ass handed to him.

Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub.
>>
>>27271247
>>investigate the Light that struck the forest
But before doing so, check whether the signature of the Earth Dynamo is still going strong within the palace. If this is Lucifer that got thrown clear, we need to be prepared for the cyclone to be coming our way to follow him.
>>
SM IS BAITING YOU FAGGOTS. THE LIGHT IS A TRAP.
>>
>>27271351
>>27271247
DO A DEEP FOCUS TO SEE IF THE LIGHT-POINT IS LUCIFER / EVEN STILL ALIVE / CHECK IT'S CONDITION.
>>
>>27271378
Seconding.
>>
You run over to investigate the point of light. <Hold on!>

It's struggle to move. The winds resist your steps, even though you're still a hundred yards from the base of the cyclone. However, you're strong enough to make it around the edge of the woods.

An angel lies at the end of a crater, impacted inches deep into the trunk of a tree. Its body is pulverized. A leg is jutting out the wrong way - the rest of the limbs are gone. It was shredded, and then ejected by the wind. Unfortunately, it died long before its body got this far. Consuming it wouldn't do you any good.

You feel another point of light in the distance, shooting out of the winds like a meteor. It plummets into the ground, just like this one, far in the distance.

<They're dropping like flies!> Adavan switches to telepathy to be more easily heard. <We should fall back!>

What do you do now?
>>
>>27271433
Can we use the Moonsong with Temerity in anyway? He did say it was our power and he managed to basically make the monster hit itself.

Dig under the ground and tunnel toward the cyclone in order to avoid the driving winds.

It keeps us safe from the tornado while still getting us closer so that we're in range to turn the tables in case Lucifer outlasts the staff.

>>
>>27271491
He's going to lose anyways, and the dynamo is probably going to break no matter what we do.

And i doubt our magic would even reach that far in.

Plus, if he does manage to somehow bullshit the storm away with it, we can jump in and steal the staff like planned.
>>
we really should have eaten that gem and gotten pocket. Now that entire treasury is at the very least scattered across Xile.
>>
>>27271508
If we're set on getting into the cyclone, this is a good idea.
I'd rather blow up the dynamo and let Lucifer get torn to pieces, though.
I couldn't give fewer shits about the Dynamo, to be honest. I'm reasonable sure that there are more, or instructions for making more, on the island.
>>
>>27271491
If he fails normally and gets chucked out with the dynamo (maybe broken) he will probably be critically injured.

But he's a top angel, he might survive with a sliver of life.

For us to eat him.

Xile has been nothing but near-death experiences, dumb mistakes, and lost loot. We'll probably not even get the Staff or Moonsong at this rate.

Why are you so adamant on trying to blow the dynamo?

Even if our magic could reach in there, it wouldn't do anything that isn't going to happen from him being overwhelmed by the winds.

And if we just throw a sphere of antimagic out, it could push back the winds too eneough for him to take control of the staff.

There's no way you'll make it through the winds - not with Abigail and Adavan, and in once piece.

But if you went under, where the winds don't reach...

<I'm going to dig under the ground. I want to get close enough to try and take out the dynamo and make sure he doesn't get the staff.>

<Anything we can do?> Adavan shouts back.

<Use my power. If the winds try to reach us, blast it back.>

<Got it!> Abigail says.

You burrow into the earth, forming several pairs of front arms into large scoops. You dig through it easily. You dig deep enough until the sound of the wind fades, and then forward. You keep Adavan and Abigail near the roof of your makeshift tunnel. The lower half you turn into a sort of makeshift conveyor of shovel-like arms, sealing yourself in as you go.

It isn't long before you run into an unforseen difficulty. <Shadow, it's really hard to breathe!> Abigail shouts. <How long are we going to be down here?!>

<Are you alright?>

<Maybe for a little while!> You hear her coughing.

<If you're going to do this, keep moving,> Adavan says.

You feel the orb of earth in the center of the massive winds beginning to slow. The wind jabs at it constantly, like a knife searching for the weak point in the armor. Once it fades...it's gonna be bad for whatever's inside.

What do you do?

You press closer to the palace.

The winds crack the earth above you. You feel the dead air brush your skin.

<Adavan, Abigail!>

You feel them grab for your magic.

They're both entirely inexperienced with using your power. They might as well be throwing feathers at the growing presence of wind. It begins to slice into you. They abandon their efforts with shadow and raise barriers of spirit to protect themselves. The wind grows stronger. Abigail is already taking the brunt of it - she can hardly draw a breath.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHQvSlwPf2U

And then the earth dynamo flickers, stops, and collapses.

The earth around you vaporizes.

You're flung into the cyclone. It's as if you're back in the skysever. Wind knifes at you from every direction, pulling, pushing, cutting, stabbing. Adavan is ripped from your grasp in a heartbeat. His soul spins into the air, and is gone.

You feel a brief flash of lightning out there, somewhere. Lucifer?

Abigail is being pulled away from you. You strain. You struggle.

A beam of green wind slices your arm in two. Abigail flies into the void.

Your vision flickers. You put your feet underneath yourself, slip, fall. You grab at the air and find something rough - the bark of a tree. You use it as leverage to climb to your feet.

Abigail. You've got to find her.

Spirit. You can sense it - you can sense her. You walk forward. It hurts to move. Your shadow is slowly knitting back together, but you haven't been hurt this badly in some time.

A quick glance into the sky tells you you're far from where you were - the opposite side of the island, on the other side of the palace. The cyclone is slowly dissipating. The silent calm is returning.

You pick up speed. It hurts, but you force yourself to move faster. You've got to reach her.

You find her out on the plain between the forest and the palace.

One of her hands is gone. The flesh is bloody and torn where it was ripped out of her arm. One of her legs is broken at the thigh. You can see the white of bone protruding from her skin.

You fall over her, exhausted.

What do you do?

>>27273107
Oh waah, it's not worse than when we got captured by angels.
>>
You Heal Abigail.

Her hand is gone - and you can't just make another one. But you can force the bleeding to stop. Her flesh wavers, then melts. The shredded end of her arm curls into a stump. It's crude, but it gets the job done.

Abigail's leg gives an ugly crack as it tries to realign itself. For a moment, you think you've botched it again - but then it cracks once more, and seemingly inserts itself back correctly. Some of the blood even retreats back into her veins.

She's lost a hand, but she's alive. However, the color is drained from her face, and her breathing is shallow, rapid, and uneven. She needs to see Auriel as soon as possible.

You pick her up. The air is silent. The palace appears untouched, as if nothing had happened, though the grasses and stands of trees leading up to the central cluster of islands have been torn away, revealing a brown plain.

You sense something.

You didn't feel it before. You were too intent on Abigail.

Wind. Powerful wind, concentrated into a fluted shape.

The staff.

It's in the direction of the lake.

What do you do?

We can't heal Abby at the lake right?
>>
>>27273125
My opinion, as someone taught by an ambulance medic, is that she will survive now that the veins near her hips are in all likeness mostly intact. We could've left the arm like it was, because as she's already in a shock it won't actually bleed too much.

It's nearly impossible to die from damage to forearms.

This is an interesting idea.

If we burn 4 XP into 16 mana, buy Earth's Gift with the other 4, and use Earth's Gift on Abby, she probably stays stable for as long as it takes to get the staff, and we have 10 mana leftover for a heal on ourself.

I know people absolutely hate the idea of burning XP for mana, but I'm pretty sure it's worth losing 4 XP to give us a shot at securing the staff before Lucifer or the construct comes to and looks for it.

Also, keep in mind that XP Burn is once per day. We need to budget our conversion for the fight now
>>
>>27273283
I wasn't taking that into account, no.

Maybe more efficient to just Great Heal again, then? Not sure.

Earth's Gift seemed like a good option because I figured "constant regeneration" would be more easily fluffed into keeping a person in shock stable than another brute-force heal, though.

not with the bonus mana cost to earth for being in Exile
>>
>>27273306
>Also, keep in mind that XP Burn is once per day. We need to budget our conversion for the fight now
Yeah, that's why I suggested burning all of the remaining 4 XP after buying Earth's Gift, but at this point it might just be more practical to burn more than 4 XP and leaving Earth's Gift unpurchased in order to have access to multiple Great Heals now that someone mentioned the increased mana cost on Xile.
>>
>>27273326
Does earths gift allow the subject to regenerate lost limbs? If so, do it.
>>
>>27273326
Earth's gift will cost us 12 mana. Leaving a necessary only 4 for us.

I'm for it. But I doubt others will be.
>>
>>27273326
Let's just keep these plans in mind for later and focus on the task at hand.
>>
>>27273356
A Great Heal costs just as much as Earth's Gift right now.
>>
>>27273326

How much will an earthforge cost?
>>
>>27273326
With the Xile mana cost increase, Great Heal is probably just more efficient than Earth's Gift if there's no fluff reason for Earth's Gift to be a superior method of healing for some reason or another.

Is health gained from gradual regeneration somehow "better" for you than health gained from a healing spell? Is this a HAL question?
>>
>>27273326
Any questions aside, I'd be in favor of burning up to 6 XP in order to have mana for 2x Great Heal; probably using one on Abby now to better stabilize her condition, and waiting until we reach the lake to see if there's danger before deciding whether to Great Heal ourself, or use a lesser heal and save mana for other spells.
>>
>>27273405
>>27273359

Earth's Gift won't regenerate a lost limb.

Great Heal is powerful and happens all at once. It's more for a burst of health in-battle, or to take care of the heavily wounded out of battle.

I would say Earth's Gift isn't meant as quite a powerful healing technique, but as a buff during a protracted battle. However, with Abigail now stable following a great heal, an Earth's Gift to stabilize her over time wouldn't be a bad idea. But you'd just as well give her another normal heal, too.

The differences between different healing spells aren't that important. One is slow and occurs over time; one is more instant. I'm not autistic enough to divide them into more niche purposes than that, I've got a fat enough skill tree as it is.
>>
>>27273453
I'll support this. Having Mana would be very useful.
>>
>>27273470
>Earth's Gift won't regenerate a lost limb.

Is this kind of magic possible in your universe, then?
>>
>>27273400

The cheapest possible earthforge would be 4 mana. Doing anything significant would cost you upwards of 8 mana.
>>
>>27273470
Fucking hell, not taking earths gift then. In support of whatever amount of mana people want to exp burn for heals though
>>
Fang is gonna be pissed.
>>
>>27273470
I say procede to the lake and once we get the staff we can heal or if something is stopping us from regaining mana we can always do the exp burn.
>>
>>27273486

It would metagame too much to answer that question.
>>
>>27273470
With this being the case, I feel like burning 6 mana might be a little much, but is probably still worthwhile.

This gives us 24 mana, which is probably good for 6-mana Heal on Abby, Great Heal for ourselves, and 6 mana leftover for a combination of smaller Heals or Nightflares.

I think what pisses me off the most about all the shit that Abby's been through so far is that it's all been basically our fault for throwing her into these dangerous situations. She's powerful, but inexperienced. We should be keeping a better eye on her. I kind of feel the need to apologize after this shit because there's no way she's feeling good about herself after all this.
>>
>>27273523
Burning 6 exp FOR mana, that is.

We should also try and Focus on our way to the lake in order to see if anything else is heading there, and/or if we can sense Adavan.

If either Lucifer or the Guardian is on its way, we would seriously need to hurry our asses up. ESPECIALLY the Guardian, since we know if it gets its hands back on the Staff it would insist on having us challenge it again for possession of the staff, which we really can't handle right now.

Lucifer would just blink away again like the bag of dicks he is, which would also be very bad.

It's unlikely he'll be able to do anything of note with the staff immediately after obtaining it, so we can just blink to him and blow him up once he gets there.

If the Staff is reactive in some way (if, for example, it hasn't been judged to have been won from the Construct), better to let the mook angel blow himself up on it first.

Maybe only Flint is capable of picking the thing up. Who knows.

You leap into the water. It immediately soothes your torn, shredded skin. You recover rapidly. You hold Abigail gingerly above the surface, keeping her level.

You bring forth your magic. A wave rises, grows, and foams up as it breaks along the top. The angel has just enough time to turn in surprise before he's hit with a massive wall of water. The lake floods into the forest, and the angel is washed away - along with another that you didn't notice, hiding in the treeline.

>HP: 34/81
>Mana: 14/58

The water recedes. You reach the opposite side of the lake without further incident. You can't sense the angels anymore - they might be incapacitated.

You stand before the Staff of Winds. It was loosened by the tide, but it was buried deep enough that it didn't budge from its position.

What do you do?

>take the staff
>leave the staff for now, focus on hunting down those angels
>heal Abigail first, then investigate the staff more closely

With your enemies temporarily out of the way, you pour more magic into Abigail.

Her shallow breathing slows somewhat, and a bit of color comes back to her face. However - if you remember what Auriel said correctly - you can't make more blood for her. At least, not without very refined magic that you don't know. She needs real rest, and lots of it.

You turn to the staff. Here it is, unguarded, embedded in the mud - but you can't be too careful. You bend all your senses forward.

It doesn't so much feel like Wind as much as it IS Wind itself. Crystallized wind. Air made solid.

It doesn't seem to be reacting any differently now that you're closer. You can't sense any magic around it, or any sort of connection to the lingering skysever. It feels distinctly different from that blood magic; it isn't tainted.

Leaves rustle behind you. You turn.

Lucifer comes out of the trees. You didn't sense him coming because his magic is like a weak flicker. He holds a hand to his stomach, somewhat staunching a flow of blood that streams from a gash there and down to his legs. His arms are shredded. You're surprised he can move them.

He stops and stares at you. You stare back.

What do you do?

Oh, as far as actual meta-discussion goes... on the topic of the Moonsong:

When Auriel brought it up after we viewed that picture diary, she said:

>"It broke when David died, before the annihilation event," she says. "He tried to take on Hyperion. He escaped, but his sword didn't - not in one piece, anyway. We never found the remains."
So which one was it? Did it break when he died, or did it break and then he managed to get away?

Or was Auriel not there in person when the Moonsong broke, and there could be some credence to Legion's crazed ranting that Erebus broke the sword himself and left David stranded in the Nether?

>>
>>27274691

Well, here's my take on the situation.

While I did state that Abigail has huge power reserves, I was very clear about her inexperience. You should notice that she alternates between being absurdly powerful and strangely incompetent. That's partly dice rolls, but inconsistency is a typical hallmark of inexperience. It's a planned factor in the way she operates.

You've consistently put her in mortal peril despite knowing that. Some anons have correctly touched on this point. However, you've repeatedly leaned on her potential to try to force your plans into success. The greatest example of this just happened. You went in for a sneaky sabotage mission and you brought your summoner and your mind-mage. While you couldn't have predicted the nature of what you were going to do, the correct choice would have been either to wait, or to leave them behind while you went on alone.

Pushing Abigail past what is safe while ignoring her inexperience and gunning for the advantage of raw power sounds exactly like what a certain Archmage did.

Regardless of the Abigail situation, if you throw yourself into winner-take-all situations, and the dice fail, then you're going to get hit with the bad end of that stick.

>The Ila waifuing jokes are honestly starting to get annoying. At first I just laughed at them but now they're more and more beginning to feel like passive-aggressive remarks to me.

I just wish ALL the waifuing people would shut their mouth, stop using that word or trolling with it, and just play.

Its very tempted to report anyone using the word repeatedly via proxy just to kick them out for 15 minutes so they stop shitting up the quest.
>>

Proxy waifuer.
>>

So passive-aggressive remarks, then. Got it.
>>

Yeah? Why didn't we just ask her to bring up an expendable summon?
>>
>>27274920

I want you to consider something.

The only reason any of them didn't die earlier is because of the servanting.

We have Good wind resistance and partial sharing.
Think of what would have happened to them without ANY wind resistance?

This is a good example of why SM is a better RPer than any of you, actually.

Shadow has been after Dynamos since day 1
Dangle earth robot dynamo carrot in front of players face
make them bend hell on earth for a chance of realizing their scientific curiosity
Lucifer was fighting explodey earth assassinrobot JUST an encounter or two ago(from his perspective)

Actually remembering and incorporating shit that happened over 2-3 threads ago, laughing when it flies over the head of all the anons.

Eh. More like

Take the tanks to the boss fight, and get the back of holding for hands-free looting

do you even delve into dungeons in search of loot treasure and xp?
>>
>>27275047
If anything this reminds me that we work better alone.
>>
>>27275047
Less always go alone and more always do the really dangerous part ourselves or not do something so ridiculously dangerous at all. It's not just Abby, no one but us was going to be able to handle that cyclone and come out okay.
>>
>>27275062
>the tanks
Who the fuck are our tanks? I'm still trying to figure this out.

Who the fuck actually has half decent defenses?
>>
>>27275084
we are the tank
>>
>>27275084
Geb, eventually. Tankiest, craziest mofo alive.

Also maybe Hectate.
>>
>>27275084

Us.

Flint and Auriel.

Flint has armor and enchanted defense, auriel's light magic is weakened but she still has lots of reserve.

Anyone that's a servant has a measure of our toughness, but only a true CHOSEN has ALL of our resists

Shit, we have a key to winning this fight in our hands the ENTIRE time.
We could have put flint's siphon-amulet on the staff-guardian to have an even match.
>>
>>27275084
We are and that's basically it. Abby sort with her Spirit shields and Servant but she's inexperienced and better off summoning from a distance. Adavan is also sort of tank tier due to undead and Servant.

We're still the only ones who can handle the seriously big stuff though.

>>
>>27275084
>Who the fuck actually has half decent defenses?

Ila is an agility and teleport tank-ninja. The angels used her as their chief pet assassin/police/murderhobo for years.

Our golem-creations are also tanks, as would be our summons if we ever invested in it.
>>
>>27275130
Dude no. Ila is not a tank. Agility is not defenses.

It does not matter how fast or agile she is, she will get wrecked hardstyle by anything that hits everything in an area.
>>
>>27275130
Ila is not a tank. She's based around stealth not direct fighting.

Fuck it literally says she's not good for a straight up fight in her bio:

>Ila isn't as powerful in a straight-up fight, but she rarely charges straight on. Her power lies in magical deception combined with her agility and speed.
>>
>>27275150
>>27275154

And yet she survived the cluster fuck of the ring city, all dem angels and AOE lightmagic burts and shit that -every single angel- has on demand, and came out on top.
If there's anything we've learned, its 'don't underestimate shadow'.
>>
>>27275150
>>27275154
>>27275170

Yeah, this is a situation when you need to look at what she's ACCOMPLISHED vs what the descritionblurb says.
Abby syndrome in reverse.

Also, she's admitted to wanting to be a servant. She's going to only get tougher from here.
>>
>>27275170
She didn't do it by being the tank, fuckhead. I guess that makes every single person who made it out of Ring City a good tank now.
>>
>>27275170
Agility + stealth will keep you alive.

Tankiness will keep you alive.

This does not mean they're the same thing. The question was NOT who is good at staying alive through any means. The question WAS who is tanky.

Ila is not tanky.
>>
>>27275170
A spear and a gun will both kill people by putting holes in them. That doesn't mean that a spear is a firearm.
>>
>>27275205

Vonnegut.

He's tough as balls, has good defenses, and really nice self-healing power via water magic.

You forgot about him
>>
>>27275221
>implying Vonnegut would agree to soak damage for the rest of the team
>>
>>27275221
I was discounting him because he's an unreliable shitstick who would run or hop sides easier than anyone else.

Yes, he's tanky, but he's unreliable as well.
>>
>>27275218
>A spear and a gun will both kill people by putting holes in them. That doesn't mean that a spear is a firearm.

I see what you're trying to get at, but that's a flawed analogy.
Both those weapons require being able to hit a target.

Which is a dicey proposition against a cloaking enemy that can teleport at best.

Evasion tanking is totally a thing
>>
>>27275251
You're either fucktarded or a ruseman. I'm done.
>>
Damnit., did I miss the whole thread again.
>>
>>27275251
In MMOs maybe but not in anything else.

A Tanks job is to be up front, keeping the attention of most of the enemies on them and soaking the damage only they can take so the rest can pick them off. That is not something that a person who uses STEALTH, CLOAKING, and TELEPORTING can do, as they invalidate all thatby making the enemies lose sight of you and target someone else. It's a dumb role for her to be in that doesn't play to her strengths at all.
>>
>>27275260
>>27275302

You're the ones thinking in MMO terms, though.

If you're going to claim something is tanky, HOW they are tanky is important.

There's Pure Toughness tanky
There's Damage Mitigation without being tough tanky
there's Not Being Hit tanky
there's regenerating tanks
there's canceling-other-people's-attacks tanky
There's Diversion tanky

The reason we're so tough is that we combine ALL of these things.

I would totally put ila on the frontlines as a confusion-causing, dissent-sowing pain in the ass that the enemies TRY to engage as a diversion for our heavy hitters.
Sometimes just being able to FLY is enough to lead ground forces on a merry goose chase that puts them out of position.

But we do that role 10x better since we can actually take a hit and are good at direct combat with our ridiculous strength, though. Ila is not a frontline fighter at all.
>>
>>27275370

God fucking damnit how many times do I have to say this. Taking Abby with us wasn't the fucking problem it was taking her with us on our dumb plan to get to Lucy that was. Pro tip: Auriel needs to breathe too.
>>
>>27275390
>Ila is not a frontline fighter at all.

You're only saying that because SM told us that was true.

Think outside the box, and her actual capabilities and feats.
She's a shadow mage. she uses OUR magic tree.
Ila is a Mini-me. She has the potential to be just as badass as we are.
>>
>>27275413
Oh yes. Because all her focus on staying back and backstabbing throughout the whole quest is totally not an indication of her preferred fighting style and abilities. This is like that time that one asshole claimed she was great at using a sword despite the fact she doesn't even have one.
>>
>>27275413
We're a fucking Elemental and a regenerating God of Order. She does not have the potential to be as badass as us at all.
>>
Wow I just got here and the autism from the players has reached epic levels. I really hope it can't get any higher. I mean if you look at past threads you notice that the players are fucktarded to the point where they can't even see obvious context clues. The problem with this quest is that its so popular.
>>
>>27275460
That brief moment where those few threads were quiet after that hiatus was fucking great.
>>
>>27275460

I think it suffers from the board format honestly.

Text windows are so short people don't really elaborate on *planning* or have informed discussions. just LOLvote 1, do x, no rhyme or reason unless someone goes out of their way to point it out.
I'm going to be totally unpopular by saying this, but this quest would be significantly better in forum format.
>>
>>27275443
Until she borrows our power, you mean.

even our regularly used powers are low-tier, which means she's gonna have access to them normally.
>>
>>27275477
You're right when people look at a wall of text on 4chan they're like "Who the fuck has time to read that? I'm a retarded faggot manchild who never once read a book and can't understand context please rape my face."
>>
>>27275488
She would still be good at the same type of things. By that argument, anyone we Servant could reach our level.

Ila is not a damn tank. She has her own skills and her own role and she does it really well. Why the fuck are you trying to change it?
>>
>>27275370
>leaving abigail on the back summoning is bad guyz!
>taking abigail with you is bad guyz!

Fuck off. SM said that she was Fang+ but then he uses the excuse "BUT S-SHE ISN'T AS EXPERIENCED GUYZZZZZ" as a scapegoat to have her get fucked over completely.

"Oh no, I got split up from Shadow! I better now use OUR TELEPATHY WHEN I GET AMBUSED BY WIND MAGES!"
>>
>>27275519
This. I came to the conclusion that servanting is a waste of time by Adavan and Abby getting fucked by the wind when they share our powers because "they aren't familiar with them yet". Fuck that shit, they are mages, do we need to babysit them? Like a training montage with <Now abby this is how you enter someones shadow in order to stab them from the back.>? Because fuck it if we need to do that after every Servanting.
>>
>>27275499
>You're right when people look at a wall of text on 4chan they're like "Who the fuck has time to read that? I'm a retarded faggot manchild who never once read a book and can't understand context please rape my face."

Yup. pretty much.

If that's the case then I thing SM should stop focusing so much in the rolls.
>>
>>27275786
Alright then smartass, let me spell this out for you. >>27275370 said that Abby getting ambushed by wind mages as the players mistake. If that's the case, then why didn't abby use her telepathic link to contact Shadow? As >>27275645 said, SM uses the "inexperienced" card as a scapegoat.
>>
>>27275830
Because Telepathy only works within shouting range. If she was within shouting range she would have responded when Flint yelled for her.
>>
>>27275684
>I came to the conclusion that servanting is a waste of time by Adavan and Abby getting fucked by the wind when they share our powers because "they aren't familiar with them yet".
I'm not sure you understand: they got fucked by the wind because that wind fucked EVERYBODY.

Lucifer is familiar with his powers (or he should be after hundreds of years), and as an angel (Hyperion's version of a Servant) he should theoretically be on par with any of our servants.

Didn't stop HIM from getting blown away.

If you didn't notice, the runner-up choice was just to GO RIGHT INTO THE FUCKING TORNADO (4 votes to the 6 of tunnel under.) We took some precautions and then got boned by bad rolls. Shit sucks.

>>27275759
Pretty sure it's closer to "people become immediately capable of these things", as opposed to giving them immediate mastery.
>>
>>27275842
Telepathy between servants and Shadow has a bigger range.
>>
>>27275862
No they don't. There's a skill under the Chosen tree that lets us do that but she isn't even chosen.
>>
>>27275852
>We took some precautions and then got boned by bad rolls. Shit sucks.

This. What I hate most is that the people were all like "I WAS'N HERE UNTIL AFTER THE VOTE BUT I KNEW THE CHOICE THAT WON WAS BAD, YOU GUYS ARE RETARDED FOR PICKING THE CHOICE THAT HAD CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE WE ROLLED A NAT 1". If you weren't here, tough luck. Deal with it.
>>
>>27275896
She was suffocating and we chose to press onwards.

That is not taking all the precautions. It was an okay plan but we should have pulled back after we saw that and it became obvious that Lucifer was losing.
>>
>>27275908
Suffocating had no effect on THE GIANT TORNADO PIERCING THROUGH THE GROUND! Tell me, did anyone seriously thought that could happen? Going underground was precisely to avoid the fucking tornado but that went to shit because LOL NAT 1 ENJOY YER TORNADO. Nothing could prepare us for that.
>>
>>27275957
I'm pretty sure SM only did that because the alternative would be her dying from lack of oxygen. We were obviously rolling for Abigail then. Of course I can't prove that though. Regardless, pushing onwards when someone is fucking suffocating is a blatantly terrible thing to do.

Anyway SM straight up said we should have either went alone or waited it out like Adavan and Abby said. The fuck up was in taking Adavan and Abby into something they weren't going to be able to handle.
>>
>>27275987
I would actually say that all of our problems come down to putting other people at risk when we shouldn't. We need to stop dragging people into our dangerous plans; either by going in alone or just plain not going through with them.
