>Really should get a more settled copypasta opening edition.
>Current World Alignment: 0. Serious Business.
>Current Waifu Level: 0.39+0.20 Waifu points capable of being drained from Konoko.

>Competing Waifu: Konoko
>Konoko's Waifu Level: Annoying Childhood Friend
>Competing Waifu: Riritu
>Riritu's Waifu Level: Unknown.

You are a girl. An attractive girl, with a silly hat, bizarre clothes, and sentience.

The sentience part is the only thing out of the ordinary in this world.

Though it grates on you, you can not exist separate of the protagonist's narrative- you must earn enough attention to be autonomous. Which involves working your way in to his life, much to your chagrin and irritation.

You intend to change things though.

You were intending to go to the cheerleading tryouts to try to get a character arc, but you are a bit distracted at the moment. First and foremost, the world alignment has changed- plot armor has been reduced. Meaning somebody intends ill for you, or other subjects in the narrative. At least you got a kitten out of that, a little three eyed mutant. It might serve as a nice little team pet, though it is also kind of ugly. You can work with it though.

The other issue is that someone on the soccer field is getting taken away on a stretcher. Konoko, a fellow love interest and nominal ally, was playing soccer on that field at the time.

Riritu, a mysterious classmate with an interest in the necronomicon is watching over the scene. Being all kinds of ominous. Might be an enemy.

She might be hostile. You're not sure. What you ARE sure of is this is supposed to be one of those stupid 'character defining' moments, where the plot is trying to deter you from going on this tangent to go running around looking all concerned.

Sure enough, you hear from the cheerleader tryouts, "Last call, last call for tryouts!"

You're god damn certain that that's not how it works in real life. Still, somebody's trying to pigeonhole you.

>Your move.
>>
Spend some Waifu points to create a semi-autonomous character. Someone who'll be friendly with us that we can go and see if Konoko is alright...

If we spend enough, can we make it so she -isn't- hurt?

If she is hurt, yeah, we need to go and see her - but our semi-autonomous character will keep a spot open for us.
>>
>>27322964
Can we risk the Karmic Backlash if it is Konoko?
>>
>>27322964
We should stick with the plan and go to cheerleading try-outs.
We don't know that konoko is in trouble exaclty, and she probably would want us to keep the slice of life stuff in play as long as we can..
>>
>>27323076
You can create another character out of thin air to check on Konoko or to go and keep a spot open at the cheerleading try outs if you'd like.

Would cost you 0.1 waifu points at the moment.

Konoko is sentient though- you can't directly affect her or her person with waifu points.

>>27323085
Konoko MIGHT be pissed. But you don't know that one way or another.
>>
>>27323139
I think it might be worthwhile, since we can use that person later.
>>
>>27323076
This sounds like a good idea. Make the character someone who can pop up later to help us.

Possibly a new friend we made at the school?

Only issue is that they're not gonna be able to do much if Konoko is actually in trouble.

Maybe a semi-autonomous copy of us can take the tryouts in our place? Having a clone could be useful later too.
>>
>>27323139
>Would cost you 0.1 waifu points at the moment.
Yeah, I'd like to do that. One to go and check for us, and tell us if Konoko's hurt - and if she is, to hold our place for us.
>>
>>27323164

OP, sorry for interrupting, but I'm having trouble grasping concepts like world alignment, waifu level, and waifu points. Any chance you can link me to somewhere I can figure out these set conventions?
>>
>>27323359
No. Get the fuck out of here.
>>
>>27323359
World alignment is a straight up Positive/Negative thing. The lower it is, the more dangerous it it.

Waifu points are our power to adjust the world. Earned by playing along with the story.
>>
>>27323396
Well, earned by getting the Protagonist to like us...or other ways, that we haven't found out.
>>
>>27323359
World alignment means the tone of the plot, ie if it's noble bright or grim derp
Waifu level is how liked by the great audience you are, as a love interest for the MC
Waifu points are a numerical representation of that
>>
>>27323359
World alignment is how bright and sunny the world is. Positive are optimistic and happy series, negative are grimdark and edgy series.

Waifu level and waifu points are rougly synonymous and are our power for metagaming actions.

You do have a point though, we should get a pastebin for that.

>>27323408
Those were called something different, like protagonist points.
>>
>>27323422
1D4 allows quest reference pages now.
>>
>0.1 Waifu points expended. Remaining total is 0.29.

Well fuck that. You naively go on to the cheerleader tryouts, letting loose a bit of your relevance to let the narration fill a hole in the cast. Someone forgettable, that won't outshine me-

"Oi!" You turn, and see a concerned girl jogging to you in a cheerleader's uniform with a black hime cut, glasses, and an overall put upon look. Very traditional looking gal. You note she's also wearing bicycle shorts. What a modest girl.

She stops in front of you as you blink at her in confusion, "You're Naya, right?" She points to herself, "You remember me?"

"Ah," You look stricken, blush and bow low, "I-I'm so sorry! Please forgive me! Class representative-" Oh great, you can't think of names for shit, uhhh, "Fujiwara-sempai!"
"Whoa, whoa," She waves her hand, nervous, "Hey, don't worry about it- we're in the same grade, you don't have to call me sempai-" She clears her throat, and looks to the soccer field, "Uh, well, anyway, you're friends with Konoko, right?"

You nod. Look demure. Blink in a vacant fashion. C'mon, c'mon, hurry the hell up, woman.

"I'm sorry to say, but she appears to have been involved in an accident," Fujiwara bites her lower lip, before shaking her head, "Look, I know you wanted to get in to the cheer squad, but your friends have to come first, okay Archimboldi-san?" Oh, nice, she actually pronounced that right.

You bring your hands up to your mouth, "Oh no! What happened?"
"She's fine! But, well, apparently someone else got hurt, and Konoko, Konoko was involved somehow. I don't think there'll be any trouble, but I think you should be there for her, Archimboldi-san. We can hold off on the tryouts for a bit, okay? I'll make sure to save you a spot!"

Hm. Konoko wasn't hurt. And by the phrasing...Well, you can guess. You glance back at Riritu. She's sure clinging on to her bookbag something fearsome and looking at the field intensely. You could have sworn she was unaware.

>Your move.
>>
>>27323408
>>27323422 (Me)
>Those were called something different, like protagonist points.
I should clarify, points earned through a method other than getting the protag to like us are called something other than waifu points.

So, if we got important enough to be a major character in our own right, we might end up earning protagonist points or something. Twen hasn't confirmed though, just said there are other sources of points.

>>27323432
Oh neat.
>>
>>27323415
>Waifu level is how liked by the great audience you are, as a love interest for the MC
So basically, this is Shipping: the Game? Cool. I want to play this... sage for no contribution.
>>
>>27323511
Well our helpful class rep is saving us a spot, so lets go check out the commotion.
>>
>>27323511
Alright, go to Konoko. We need to check out and see if she felt anything. Scan the feild, does anyone other then that protag, or Riritu, have anything like good character design?

Also, thank Fujiwara-Sempai. Also-also, curse your inability to make up good names. What the hell happened last series?
>>
>>27323511
Go see Konoko, now we've got our spot saved for us.

Can anyone think of a way to give Ritru a heads up that there might be something dangerous going on that doesn't give us away as a sentient?

Would saying we've got a bad feeling and asking her to keep an eye out for anyone or anything suspicious work?

>>27323579
>Also, thank Fujiwara-Sempai.
This also.
>>
>>27323359
Hm, well, you have a good point.

I'll whip up a pastebin for the known rules so far to help people catch up after this thread.

For a quick and dirty explanation:

>World Alignment.
>Measures the tone of the story. Positive tones mean things always turn out well, that everything's fun and sappy, but it also means that it's harder to break out of your role. Negative tones mean that anyone can die, things take a darker mood, and plot armor is a distant memory. Does mean that things can change though. For instance, a protagonist can die, and you can take charge.

>Waifu Level/Waifu Points.
>Technically the same thing. It's power you gain from the protagonist's attentions. For the moment, the role given to you by the narrative is to be a 'love interest.' This means that, for the moment, you only gain power from the protagonist, Anon-kun, who is a douche. Things can change though. For the moment, your waifu points erode outside of his scenes, but when you bank 1.00 points, you can exist independently of him. Waifu points can be spent to affect the narrative- costs will ramp up as things get more concrete, but for now, it's the beginning so scenes, plot twists, and characters can be added freely.

>You don't know Konoko's exact waifu level- hence her being 'Annoying Childhood Friend.' But you're aware that she's got power enough to be autonomous.

>Sentience.
>Not all characters are aware of the rules of the world. Most just follow the narrative and fulfill their roles without a second thought. Sentients on the other hand are aware of the world, and how to manipulate the powers within it. So far, you and Konoko are the only ones that you've confirmed as sentient.

Anyway, back to actual vote tallying.
>>
>>27323602
>Can anyone think of a way to give Ritru a heads up that there might be something dangerous going on that doesn't give us away as a sentient?
Are we sure she's not the cause? The way she's...written?...make me wonder if she's not a semi-autonomous character that Anon made.
>>
>>27323524
Yeah, it became kind of necessary to track everything going on in BFQ, for example.
>>
>>27323613
Cool. How do we affect World Alignment / Waifu level? Or is it straight up QM fiat?
>>
>>27323621
Yeah, I considered that.

If she is the cause she can't do anything to us in such a public area. She already seems to realise we're important to the plot, so it's not like we'll tip her off on that. And it doesn't reference us being sentient at all so it won't give that away.

If she isn't the cause, she'll hopefully be grateful for a warning, and any observations she makes might be useful later.

First case we lose nothing but the time it takes to tell her, second case we might win a fair bit.
>>
>>27323660
Waifu goes up when we attract the Protag's attention. Sexy, cute, acting like a typical moe-bait.

Which we hate.

World Alignment, we're not sure. Dealing with people who've tried to lower it has been our only interaction so far.
>>
>>27323660
We gain waifu points for doing waifuish things, like stuttering or acting clingy. We affect WA by spending waifu points.
>>
>>27323696
Yeah, but if we don't warn her, that little Genki-cultist may be dead, and we won't have to deal with her shit.

Seriously, she pronounced <3. And ~.
>>
>>27323556
>>27323579
>>27323602
Alright, straightforward enough. Going to check on Konoko, thanking Fujiwara, and writing.

And yes, eventually if you work your way in the narrative, you can get another pool of points besides waifu points.

>>27323660
Influencing world alignment costs a lot of points, and an instigating event. Currently, more than you have. Though, depending on the instigating event, it might cost less.

Waifu points are, regrettably, only awarded by appealing to the protagonist.
>>
>>27323660
World alignment can be affected by spending waifu points when QM prompts us. We take a roll to try change it. Others can also, and recently it went down from +1 to 0 when we failed a roll to stop it.

Waifu points are gained from fanservice, cuteness, general audience appeal stuff.

>>27323723
You make a compelling argument.
>>
>>27323702
>only source of personal power
>we hate it
This is a conundrum. Maybe better to say we don't enjoy it for it's own sake. Looks like the sensible thing to try and do is:

1. Get to WL 1 and gain autonomy.
2. Become the ultimate cock-block while amassing more WP to spend to that end (so that the story / universe I live in doesn't end).
3. Bring the WA down enough to become the protag ourselves in some way.
4. Bring WA up so high that I can never be displaced as the protag. (Reverse harem optional.)

So, existential tyrant time?
>>
>>27323913
You don't have to like your job to like the fact that it earns you money so you can live comfortably.
>>
>>27323913
No, what we need to do is find a way to become the protagonist ourselves. We've done it before, we can do it again.
>>
>>27323947
>We've done it before
We have?
>>
>>27323988
Well, it's suggest we've done this before. And that we were a protag in a previous...existence? I'm not sure we remember a lot about it, but we kinda remember.

We've at least been a waifu before, and we're still semi-autonomous.
>>
"Oh dear, I hope it's nothing serious, thank you Fujiwara-sem- er, I mean, Fujiwara-san!"
"It's okay," She gives a little smile, "I look forward to seeing your routine, Archimboldi-san!" With a last chuckle, she jogs back to the rest of the cheer team, clustered around in confusion.

Didn't seem like a problem. Seemed reliable. You just hope you can skim past without having to do some silly girl bonding things. You walk back, frowning. Crap, you hope Anon-kun isn't into meganekkos. Note to self, get glasses.

You hustle to join the crowd, finding a spot next to Riritu who's staring as the stretcher bearing doctors take away the injured figure in to an ambulance. Huh. Slickbacked hair, pained expression, some kind of silken blue scarf around his neck- injured guy was a character. Or might be a character. At least he had more definition than the rest of these schmucks around you. Ignoring Riritu and her slutty mcslutslut outfit. The might-have-been-a character gets packed away in an ambulance, and as it drives off enough people start drifting away that you can see Konoko in the center of the field, her coach crouched by her, talking to her.

"Oh!" Riritu beside you jumps in surprise at the sight of you, "Miko-chan, I, I, I mean, Naya-san, I'm surprised to see you here! And," She looks you up and down, in your cheerleader outfit, "Oh my...Nice look<3! Very American chick!"

>Riritu is attempting to influence you!
>Influence attempt auto failed.

That's getting real old real fast. Pings your evildar hard when that happens too.

"Ahehehe, thank you, Riritu-san, but," You point for emphasis, but Riritu still seems more interested in you, "What happened here? Is Konoko alright?"

"Oh? Hmm," She looks to the field as if seeing it for the first time, "Oh yes," She tightens the grip on her book bag, frowning, "Konoko- she, she was in practice, and suddenly, she, she kicked and..." She shakes her head, "It was like a fireball...And...I..."
>>
While Riritu is learning to speak, you decide to just hurry along and talk to somebody who wasn't an idiot. She doesn't appear to notice your passing, as she's still stuttering and staring blankly as you run off.

"-need to understand that I don't blame you," You manage to over hear from the coach as you hurry forward. Konoko looks to be at the edge of tears. Totally faking, you think, "It's just a game, passions arise like that."
"B-b-but Genji-"
"It's okay, I'm...I'm sure he'll recover," The coach speaks uncertainly, before he looks up at your presence, "Wait, who are you?"
"Oh, uh, coach, this is, uh, this is my friend, Archimboldi-san. Do you mind if we talk alone?"

Wide, brick faced balding man glances between the two of you, before acknowledging his lesser character role and wandering off grumbling.

"So. Konoko," You raise an eyebrow looking down at her. She's holding on to her shin, and seems fairly distraught, but otherwise fine, "Had a power up moment?"
"...Yes," She whispers, looking at the edge of tears, "I, my leg, it just-"
"Oh cut the waterworks," You smile triumphantly, "You're an important character now! You're going to have your own set of powers! God, I was so worried you'd be the sick friend character having to stay in the hospital, I am so sick of god damn cutesy get well card-"
"How is this a good thing?" Konoko shouts, before remembering that she's in the middle of the field, and regaining control, "I BROKE Genji's leg!"
"Oh boo-hoo, a random side character got his leg broke, who gives a fuck-"
"Which MEANS," Konoko hisses, "That things are getting darker. You can't be the only one that felt the world grow darker."
"...Yeah, yeah, I did too."

Konoko looks to the side of the field, where Riritu is chattering happily with some faceless characters, "She was watching me play. Had a book out while she was watching me. She's the reason this happened. I know it."

She looks at you with cold eyes.

"We need to get rid of her."

Yea that's all nice and dandy but isn't it YOUR role to hold back while I shove? I've been thinking about that since I've seen her but short of outright murder there's not that many options. What I suggest is hastening her character development along so she has to come out as the evil bitch she is. THEN we can get rid of her quite easily via HI-LA-RI-OUS "kick her so hard she becomes a twinkling star" double-kick action.

Play it down.

"Riritu."
"Yes," Konoko glares at Riritu with renewed venom as she laughs loudly at something, "I know it, I know there's something wrong with her."
"Look, Konoko," You give a sidelong look. Well, every part of you is thinking that she's not sentient. She pings your evildar, sure, but that's in character as it were. She's probably a misunderstood oni girl or some cliche shit like that, "Not saying I don't agree with you- and stop with the death glare, you can't hate her to death yet," Konoko looks straight forward immediately. Oh man, so subtle, "But are you SURE?"
"Yes," She hisses, staring dead ahead.
"Cause I've talked to her. And she's as dumb as a rock whose rock mom took advantage of the rock liquor store's pregnancy discounts to their fullest."
"Rocks don't-"
"It's a joke," You glance back at Riritu. She's trotting away, still holding on to her bookbag, "You head on home, relax, get a grip. We can work on it later."

"I know where a plot hole is," Konoko leans in to you, whispering, "We can let the Gnaw take care of her."

Gnaw? You don't know what that is. Surprising. Maybe it's something you've forgotten between incarnations. Gnaw gnaw gnaw. What a stupid word.

"Later," You glance over to cheer tryouts. You don't want to seem a jerk, so you'll have to wrap this up, "We make plans together, okay Konoko? We're a team, right?"

Konoko gets an annoyed look on her face, before deflating with a sigh and nodding, "Okay. Just- watch out, okay?"
"Sure. Also, who the heck's Genji?"
"Guy...On my soccer team?" She shrugs, "I dunno. He seems more comic relief than anything else."

"Pft, comic relief? He was destined for this shit," You give a reassuring pat on the arm, before jogging to the cheerleaders, flailing your limp wrists around. God you hate this.

"But the world align-"
"Bai bai, Konoko-chaaaannnn!" Is all you give as a response. It's cheerleading time, damn it!

That depends. If Riritu is sentient, then yes, you can see her burn out her waifu points. If she's not, you won't see her burn her waifu points any time soon.

If you run out of waifu points, you start to fade out of existence. You can sacrifice parts of your character to maintain existence. Which usually leads to the character losing their sentience.

"And now-" You notice that there aren't as many cheerleaders hanging around now, but still there's a polite core sitting in chairs under a tent waiting for your entrance. Fujiwara is in front of them, with a microphone speaking politely, "Archimboldi-san, a new transfer, will show the mysterious cheerleading techniques of foreign lands!" Out of sync clapping greets you, as you stand in front of them. You glance up at the clouds. Hm. Not the most fitting background- but you'll make do.

You glance back to the bleachers- Anon-kun is approaching, and a grumpy Konoko too, along with some other class members. Okay. Mysterious, competent, aloof. Grace. Majesty. Serenity.

"Alright, Archimboldi-san, our theme is-" Fujiwara reaches back, and a cheerleader hands her a card- wait, what? They expected you to improvise a cheer on the spot? "The theme is, 'Unmatched Passion, Coming Back from Defeat!'"

What. You glance at the cheerleaders. Suddenly, you realize these are no mere teenage girls in silly suits and extraordinary confidence. This is a grim panel chaired by those with only the coldest and most sadistic hearts. Why else would they wait this long under the grey sky, promising rain for someone they've never met before? You try to swallow your fear, but your mouth is suddenly dry. Fujiwara cocks her head.

"Archimboldi-san? That, that is, 'Unmatched Passion, Coming Back from Defeat!,' if you didn't hear the first time?" Fujiwara smiles. The smile of a butcher coming across a trussed pig. You narrow your eyes. This cold hearted bitch.

"Ahhh," You glance left and right. Fuck rhymes, "Err, oh, ah."

No. Fear is the mind killer. Just draw from within yourself. You can think of something. You shut your eyes, breath, and then push out your arms, and shout.

Anon-kun leans in eagerly.

>1.

Interestingly, the theme is actually an instrumental version of a love song.

>>
"Go, go, don't be sad!
Get your spirit up and let it go mad!
Whip out that great team spirit,
Break their lines, let them fear it!
Every time they say no,
They mean yes!

Whoa, that looks like it's impressing Fujiwara. Hah, this is easy! You do a back flip, landing in the splits, and keep it up. Anon-kun sure looks interested in it.

"Come on back from behind,
Bit the pillow,
We're going in dry!
We're lucky like a four leaf clover,
So take this chance and bend them-"

"THANK YOU!" Fujiwara yells perhaps a bit too loudly in to the microphone, "Thank you, hahaha, Archimboldi-san," She's blushing pretty heavily, "We, uh, we'll be convening now. To. To judge this."

Anon-kun is giving a standing applause. Konoko though, Konoko looks a little stricken.

"But, you didn't let me finis-"
"No, no," Fujiwara mumbles, "That's quite alright, I think we've heard enough, thank you, thank you, ahh, Archimboldi-san."

Okay, crap. Why did you have to remember THAT cheer. Fuck's sakes. First thing that came to mind. Now why is that-

You glare at Anon-kun. Well, at least he's happy.

>Waifu points +0.01.

But...Without interference, it might be that Fujiwara is not going to let you on the cheer team.

>Your move.

Hey, quick question: If we grow our characterisation in various directions, do we become subject to the stereotypes of that archetype? Like if we became mecha pilots, would there be increased tendencies towards hot-bloodedness and dramatic speeches in our characterisation because of that?
I ask because although the implied secondary traits of being a cheerleader aren't all too bad, I am concerned that they could make it hard to be like a meganekko goth or somesuch.
>>
>>27324962
Run after Fujiwara. Tell her, in quiet words, that we have no idea what we did wrong, and we were so hoping to join, because we want to fit in.

And if our pouting baby blues won't help, how any Waifu points we talking about?

Hmm. The thought occurs that DumbRocks McRockhead might actually be a decoy. Someone with that unfortunate a characterisation?

Oh, and just a list of things we might hypothetically want to consider spending waifu points on:

-Immunity to mental effects caused by plot changes and such (so if someone makes it part of their character that everyone loves them, or nobody thinks twice about anything they do, we notice).
-Debuff Immunity of any kind, so that others can't use points to hurt us.
-Any sort of plot chracterisation that only really makes sense as being referred to as an 'attribute' of a fictional character. This could include being lucky, being generically 'popular'/'adored' without being tied down by the weight of having to maintain all those social links, or having various skills/traits that only make sense being added before characterisation hass been set. Heck, at thiss point it's arguably still possible for us to claim we're a kitsune or something, if we wanted to make our character a Gorram Mary-Sue or somesuch.
>>
>>27325293

Crap, crap, you wanted to join the cheerleading team. You're not going to let this opportunity slip away.

As the frazzled cheerleaders gather their things, you rush forward, ignoring the approaching, giggling Anon-kun.

"Wait, wait, WAIT!" Fujiwara steps away from you nervously, as you try to get your control back, "Hang on, listen, uh, Fujiwara, I'm sorry, I don't know what-"
"I don't know either," Fujiwara mumbles, "No idea what you might have meant, haha, you must not know Japanese very well, haha," She continues packing away, "But, uh, we'll consider you, you can be sure."

"Pft, don't worry about it," Anon-kun swaggers over, "Cheerleading isn't for you, Mik-er, Archimbowler-san," He smiles. Smug son of a bitch, this was your side plot damn it! "We don't need clubs."

"Eh, I don't know about that, Anon-kun," Konoko murmurs, "I think she had her heart set on the team."
"I do!" You insist, leaning in to Fujiwara, "I'm sorry, I, can't you give me another shot? Things have been stressful, and you had me do one right off the cuff like that-"
"No!" Fujiwara turns, annoyed, "I mean, I should have expected lingual...differences but it's more than that! I don't know how it is where you come from, but here, here ÅŒendan is a noble and revered part of our heritage, our culture! You must have a good soul to be part of the cheerleading club! Your heart must shine through the cheers!" Fujiwara leans in, narrow eyed, "We have seen your heart, Archimboldi-san, and...It isn't there. The spirit to cheer," She shakes her head, "It's not there."

The implication that you're a foul mouthed jerk at heart isn't one that you really fond of, nor do you agree with, but whatever.

"Look, pllllleeeasse, Fujiwara-san, I can come up with good cheers too! Er, uh, 'Hey, hey, come on through, we're going to give something good to you?'"
"No, no, no," Fujiwara shakes her head, "Your spirit...It's just not there!"

"But isn't that what cheerleading is all about?!" Who-
>>
You're surprised- you turn to see Riritu behind you, fist clenched in determination, a literal fire in her eyes.

"R-Riritu-san?" Fujiwara seems thrown off by the sudden introduction of the blond. Where was she hiding? Anon-kun raises an eyebrow, but steps out of the way. Konoko for her part has assumed a combat form. Riritu seems unaware of this though, as she strides towards Fujiwara, radiating a bit of madness.

"Fujiwara-chan, this is exactly what cheerleading is about!" She grabs Fujiwara's hands, dragging her close, "I don't know how it is in Japan, but in America, this is just what cheerleading is all about!"
"Lewd cheers?" Fujiwara is blushing, trying to wriggle out of Riritu's grip, but she redoubles her grip.
"No! It's about...INSTILLING SPIRIT!" Fuck, she yelled that last part.
"S-S-Spirit?"
"SPIRIT!" She grabs you by the shoulder, dragging you over, then plants one of Fujiwara's hands on your breast.

"Do you feel that?" Riritu asks. Shock settles over you both. Huh. Fujiwara has cold hands. Then she becomes aware of what's happening, and shrieks and leaps away.
"What's wrong with you!"
Riritu raises a lecturing finger, "You felt a heart, Fujiwara-san! You felt a heart! And within every heart, there can grow spirit!"

"Uhhh," You stare at Riritu. She's...Helping you? "Y-yeah! Please, Fujiwara-san!" You lean forward, clapping a hand to your breast, "You must take responsibility!"
"Wh-wh-what?!" Fujiwara's poor, just created personality is being stretched to her limits.
"Please! Teach me what it is to be a cheerleader! Fill my heart with your spirit!"
"Alright, alright!" Fujiwara yells, every visible part of her red, "Whatever you say! You're on the team! Just, please don't come up with any cheers?"
"Victory~!" Riritu grabs you, crushing you to her prodigious breast, "Hahaha, aren't you so happy, Naya?"

No, not really. That was a nauseatingly sappy moment.
>>
Oh well. Right, whatever you say Riritu. Being crushed to Riritu, while pleasant, does leave you a moment to wonder why she just did that.

Anon-kun though, doesn't seem happy exactly. Strange. Konoko though, isn't hiding her irritation. She's giving her death glare straight at Riritu. Riritu for her part is completely unaware, just giggling and laughing and holding you close and damn these things are like great big downy pillows.

Well. At least you're on the cheer team now.

"Thank you, Riritu," You mumble around her embrace as you push her away. Fujiwara rapidly retreats, the rest of the cheerleaders giggling at what just occurred.

"Yeah, real great that you got her on the cheer team, Riritu," Anon can't hide his irritation, "Thanks for coming and bailing her out there."

Riritu is about to say something, before Konoko starts shouting, "Wait, wait wait wait WAIT! You two know each other?"

Anon glances at Konoko, then at Riritu.

"She's...My..." Anon frowns, thinking, before Riritu speaks up.
"I'm his math tutor!" She says with a fiendish smile.
"Yeah, exactly! I'm having trouble with math, I'm sorry Konoko, I just needed some help-"
"That's ridiculous! Why didn't you go to me instead of- instead of-"

Oh GOD, you don't have time for 'oh no jealous spat' bullshit. You cut in.

>Riritu is attempting to influence you!
>Influence attempt auto failed.

Agghhhh, she's still trying.

"Riritu, please leave her alone," Anon steps between you and her, "She's innocent."
"Oh? I wouldn't be so sure of that," Riritu steps back, "But, I'll respect your words, Anon-kun~. Talk to you all later," She gives a final wink, before walking away, in her typical swaying fashion.

"Anon-kun," Konoko looks to Anon, "You wouldn't lie to me now, would you?"

Anon stares after Riritu as she walks away.

"I would never do anything to hurt you Konoko, you know that," Anon tries to look reassuring, but he's about as convincing as a skunk pelt toupee, "

"Right," Konoko mumbles. Then looks over at you and winks. What...?

Huh. Clever girl. Anon walks off, presumably to brood. Konoko grins, turns to you.

Things are slightly trickier, then.

Four step plan: (I'd prefer if Twen didn't read this, but, oh well)

1: be mysterious to get up waifu points
2: get injured fairly badly at some point, get alone with anon
3: get major waifu points with the words "Do you trust me?" (bonus points: follow up with "do you lpve me?" and if yes good, if no smile, say "good" and a kiss on the cheek to correct that temporarily)
4: reveal the waifu change ability, gain trust, change story tone all at once
5: see if he wants to control us waifus, or let us go. If he wants to let us go, we have an ally. If he wants to make us slaves, he's a bad guy and we can legally take him down with a prearranged trap and acquire protag status (?)
unless the genre shift goes straight to bondage hentai in which case we're screwed.
>>
So hey, guys, while we're all active; what other tags can we put in the archive for Waifu Quest? Someone put up memetic parasite last time. What else? The name of our character?
>>
>>27325954
Way too meta.

That doesn't appeal to a broader audience at all.
>>
>>27325954
>"do you lpve me?"

"It would be better if we turned her into paste after school. It might be more useful if we sucked her in. At the very least we can use her as a sacrifice instead of one of us when that inevitable heroic sacrifice story comes along."

Konoko stares flatly back at you.

"What."

"She can be useful."
"She's trying to turn the story grimdark."
"She got me on the cheerleading team!"
"You- are you really that easily turned," Konoko jabs her finger at you, "You CAN'T be this stupid!"
"What?"
"Just because she, she, HIT ON YOU, you think that makes her A-OK? You said it yourself, you feel evil on her!"
"That's just in the story, that doesn't mean anything."
"It means PLENTY if she doesn't have the wits to avoid the story!"
"That's a contradiction- if she's sentient, she doesn't have to follow the story, and if she isn't, she couldn't have tried to change the story's tone."
"Rrrgh," Konoko balls up her fists, then points at you, "Okay, this? This right here? It's strike 2. If she tries ANYTHING else, I'm going after her, okay?"
"Y'know, I don't know if the three strikes system really works with murder-"
"Well, I'm going with it, Miko! Freaking hell. And it's not murder, it's self defense, okay?"
"Okay, whatever," You look around. The stadium's green grass is starting to drain in color. Y'know, Konoko's first action when she got you alone was to try to lower the world alignment... Then again, you kind of started that one.

Konoko is pretty high strung. Trying to reassert control after your intrusion. Gal was paranoid at this point, jumping at shadows. Who knows, maybe the shift in tone was her fault when she screwed up.

You just hope she doesn't turn yandere. She'd probably tear the narrative to pieces then.

"C'mon, I got my motorcycle. How we going to do this sidearc without investigating Riritu?"

So, a theory. If we were a MC in our own story before.....could Riritu be stalking us....
>>
>"I would never do anything to hurt you Konoko, you know that," Anon tries to look reassuring, but he's about as convincing as a skunk pelt toupee, "
Thanks to the question mark at the end, I read this as Anon-kun speaking like a Misaka clone, narrating his own incompetetence.

Okay, so, things:
-Not only is it likely that Ririto is sentient, but Anon may be aware that she is. This may mean we need to work to conceal our sentience. Also possible, is the chance Ririto may be like Anon-kun; a 'real' person transposed to this world.
-Ririto...just scored waifu points off us, didn't she? As in, she's trying waifu US?

Maybe I'm way off base, but it looks to me like we are trapped in the middle of a Waifu Collect-a-thon/tug-o-war between Riritu and Anonkun.

The way she zones out until we come near could be similar to how most events in quests and VNs are glossed over unless a waifu is involved.

Hisui is great because she is a good person, who was willing to give up everything for her sister. But his actual point about her not exactly being proactive in altering the narrative is true. Kohaku made the plot her bitch.

"Look, let's leave Riritu alone, that's what's most important at the moment."
"Yeah, okay," Oh, you've skipped over to Konoko's motorcycle. Eh. Appropriately crotch rockety, but no style. No Kanedacycle. Doesn't look great, "I'll leave your waifu alone-"
"Careful."
"But would you mind telling me what your plan is?" Konoko pulls on a bright orange motorcycle helmet- hey when'd she get changed to her motorbike gear? God damn, you're still stuck in your cheerleader outfit.
"Plan?"
"Yeah, what you want to do for your side arc? We need to build characterization."
"Uh."
"Oh come on. You want to be a strong independent character that need no man, right?"
"Right, uh, hm," You think in a panic as Konoko passes a motorcycle helmet to you, "Uh. I have a weird kitten?"
"A weird kitten."
"Yeah," You pull on the helmet- oh ow fuck damn that smarts with your braid. This helmet is way too small, "Sheouch, but yeah, uh, it's got three eyes."

"Three eyes," Konoko's mask is appropriately expressionless.

"...Look, if we go looking in to the lab, we'll totally get captured."
"You have NOTHING ELSE you can think of?"
"It's a cute freak!" You shout waving your hands around irritated, "We can all daw at it, I can relate a sob story about how I feel like the kitten is me, we can both be maternal as shit!"
"Or we could dig up what Riritu is doing."
"...The cat should be at home."

"Okay fine!" Konoko kick starts the bike, bringing it to life under you. You reach around Konoko, but she stops you, "Not in the mood right now."
"Wait are you serious-"
"Yup," Is all the warning she gives, before she tears out of the school parking lot.

Yeah, she's on edge.

After a requisite period of screaming, braid flying behind you, you pull up in front of the manor. A quick check around the place tells you that there's no Anon or Riritu presence.

But there is a three eyed kitten on the table mewing.

"Wow," Konoko approaches, and the kitten fluffs up in fear, making Konoko stop with a squeak.
>>
>>27326328
Since when can we generate points by loving others?
They come from how much attention the MC pays to us.
>>
"Hey little guy," You whisper, stepping past Konoko, offering a hand to the kitten. It mews, flailing a paw at your hand cautiously, testing its weight on you. After a few experimental swats, it cautiously trusts you not to collapse under its weight, and crawls on to your hand, before curling up in it, licking and nibbling at your finger. Still trying to get milk. You scratch it behind the ear. Really, it's nice for a little run away metaphor.

"What are you going to name it?" Konoko whispers, not wanting to scare it again. One of the kitten's eyes settles on Konoko before closing again.

"Hm," You lift up the kitten, bringing it closer to your face. It squeaks, rubbing up against your lips, "Suppose it has to be a meaningful name or something?"

"Maybe?" Konoko shrugs, getting a calculating look, "Hang on, lemme see if I can accidentally stumble over some fish for it."

She gets up, leaving you alone in the room with the kitten. It squeaks again, pushing against your nose with its own. It bonded quick, didn't it?

>OPPORTUNITY: POWER GAIN!
>Animal Empathy: You can talk to animals and stuff! Whoa! You can try to talk to animals to get them to help you out with stuff, for instance, spying on enemies, providing food, or calling for a rampage of deer to trample your enemies. Warning, animals could be dicks, and try to overshadow you as a character.

>Familiar Empowerment: Kitten can be granted Ki to go in to BATTLE MODE. About the size of a tiger, claws sharp enough to tear steel, and strong enough to chuck cars, angry and ever loyal. Has a time limit of two minutes for no good reason. Empowering pet in such a fashion will exhaust you for a scene. If things get too grimdark though, it might be goaded to go out of control.

>Ki Skills: Can sense power levels of other people, track people through walls, and remotely communicate with those that you bond with via Ki. May also be attacked mentally via gratuitous nightmare scenes.

Exactly! Now, it's possible that she got waifu points from anon against his will (if his displeasure is meta and the story doesn't take meta stuff into account), but that seems unlikely (though there would be huge implications if the story made decisions like that on its' own). Also possible is that she had a non-standard way of gaining waifu points, such as (for example) pissing Anon off. But yes, most likely she just waifu'd us a bit. There are quite a few worrying things about this possibility.

1. This means either that we're a main character, or that it is possible to gain waifu points from anyone. That turns this from a harem show to a romance show with a central character.
2. All our relevance to the plot and such has come from gaining waifu points with Anon. It has been assumed that having Anon like us and having waifu points are _synonymous_. Getting waifu points from someone other than him is startling, but more relevant is that Ririto got waifu points off us when we were suspicious of her. Put simply, all those times Ririto got the 'influence denied' message? Those were occasions where our sentience denied her some waifu points. This strikes me as meta-plot relevant. There are other implications to this, but they're sorta speculatory, so I won't voice them for now.

I think he's right. Ki is super utility and sort of meshes with our clusterfuck power set. Plus, if we Training Montage, we could potentially use it to bind up Riritu and prevent her from...you know. Being shitty. It might even be possible to rope in Anon and basically turn him into a marionette.
>>

Transformation sequence
+0.02 waifu points whenever we use kitten to gain them.

I think that's it. Before this thread Twen was just giving us points instead.

>It's 2 minutes and exhausts us. The others both have similar disadvantages, but aren't time limited, cost nothing, and will probably be more useful, given we have 2 strong physical fighters on our side already.
It's not as if we're going to fight all the time. Our plan was to be a support type, remember? Plus, this fits in with our idea of providing power-ups for everybody else, except applied to our cat.

Think of it as a desperation move to protect us at times of need. And if you've read enough manga, it's obvious that the time limit or the exhaustion penalty won't stay with us forever. Tropes, anon. Follow them.

Because we could totally pick up Ki Skills now, and Familiar Empowerment at a time when we really need it (like when we're cornered). It would make the "reveal" all the more dramatic.
>>
>>27326377
Well, alright.
One thing I didn't bring up due to thinking one option more likely than the other, was that the fact that we didn't have the 'influence resisted' message when Riritu scored waifu points message. That probably means that her actions were sufficient in-character for us to like her in spite of our suspicion, but it could also mean that our sentience only offers us resistance to influence, not full protection (from a mechanical standpoint). It could means that being waifu'd actually alters our very character. This is kinda me going all paranois-fuel here, but it's kinda a freaky thought. We already have confirmation that it's possible to alter someone else's character deliberately.
>>
Also,
[x] Ki skills
>>
>>27326473
Hmm, yes, this is something to consider.

Perhaps we can bring it up with Konoko. If we show her that we're being properly paranoid as well by admitting that Riritu has been constantly trying to influence us and that she may have done so successfully at the cheer scene, we could come up with a plan together.
>>
>>27326473
Sure is.

I like where you're going but it feels like you're dragging your feet a little bit.
>>
>>27326440
Switching from Battle Mode to Ki Skills, it DOES mesh better with our concept and provide more chances for character development.
>>
>>27326473
>but it could also mean that our sentience only offers us resistance to influence, not full protection
Twen already stated that influence flat out doesn't work on sentients.

>e didn't have the 'influence resisted' message when Riritu scored waifu points message.
We don't know how she got waifu points, and it's quite possible they weren't from us. Konoko was happy for us to become a cheerleader, right? We were tossing around the idea of her secretly being protagonist earlier...
>>
>>27326420
Heh. Well, Cringer is sticking around forever. He'll get some plot armor. Anyway-

Seems Ki Skills has the full support. We'll go with that.

And yes, BATTLE CAT can be gained later.
>>
>>27326501
Excellent.
>>
>>27326501
Options are good. Ki skills seem likely to make us the archetypical 'creepy quiet girl that messes with people's dreams'.
>>
>>27326498
The plan was for both of us to gain sentience either by replacing Anon as Protag, or killing him. What we didn't expect was a hierarchy of waifus. That is to say, a pyramid. We thought it was only a single tier: Anon -> "I"/Konoko. Instead we've been presented with a possible chain of command that involves Riritu slaving herself to Konoko or ourselves.

This means we could actually go full Pope Modo and amass such a following of waifus that we could use their collective waifu points to propel our sentience.

After all, isn't that what faith is?

I move we run for student council.

I think that short of us finding a way to gain points from external plot (ie. '+20 waifu points for killing an alien!') or us finding a way to make ourselves the main character, there's always going to be a central role for Anon, but it could end up being 'that jerk Anon, his one waifu, and her twenty best friends'.

You focus on the kitten wriggling in your grasp. You bring it close to your breast, cradling it, as its squeaks fade and it starts purring. It has a heart too. And within that heart, is spirit. And the spirit expresses itself through ki. And blah de blah de blah, level up already oooh, you can see 360 degrees. Ow, what a headache. Well, you get a shitty impression of everything. Like, if you stare in one place for a long enough time and close your eyes, and you have the ghostly imprints? Like that. But, you do see Konoko shining pretty hard over there. Her power level is pretty darn high actually. Surprising really. Usually, isn't it supposed to be the protagonist that has a shit load of power, and then refines it through technique or whatever?

Eh, whatever.

Konoko comes in, bearing an open can of tuna fish, and halts at the doorway. Your kitten perks up at the smell, and looks curiously at the new human bringing food.

"Whoa- your eyes, they're all-"

"Glowing? Yeah," You blink, and when you open them again, things are back to normal, "I've got Ki sense now."
"Ki sense? I always thought it was Chi."
"I don't know damn it, that's what we started with and I'm sticking with it."
"Well, they weren't glowing," Konoko sets the tuna on the floor, and your kitten appropriately flings himself from your grasp, landing face first on the floor- you both wince, but the kitten, after flopping about a bit rights itself and starts purring like a motor as it tucks in. You smile at it, before looking back at Konoko.

"Not glowing?"
"No, no, they got all sparkly. Kinda like stars."
"Oh well, hardly matters," You stroke the cat. You fear he's vibrating enough to shake through the floor, "I think I'm going to call him Cringer."

"Cringer."
"You've got this habit of repeating things I say, Konoko, not your most charming feature."
"The big cat from He-Man?
"Yeah."
"That really doesn't fit your backstory. Like, at all."

Silence.

"Maybe they had He-Man at the lab?"

But I think waifu having a waifu is borderline breaking a system, especially if Ririt is what we think she is
Which I'm all for

Didn't see Baccano on that list, so I'm gonna suggest it. It's a good one, and it actually has a good dub.

Personally I'd start with Planetarian. I think it's woefully underrated. There aren't any choices in it though, it's a 'kinetic novel' as opposed to the usual VNs.

I just started watching High School DxD.

Somewhat silly show about a guy who gets killed by a fallen angel and resurrected as a demon. Lots of tits involved.
>>
After reading threads 1-3, holy fuck I take back trying to do the reveal to Anon.

Fucker needs to burn.
>>
These threads always tend to be over by the time I get up in the morning, but I'd like to say that I pretty much always like what I see when reading through the finished threads.

Keep up the good work!

Yes, good, and while we're at it we can make him suffer for all the shit he's put us through. He deserves to die, and we obviously can't let him live anyway, so we may as well enjoy it right?
>>
A thought. What if Ririto was gunning for Anon with the tone shift and our and Konoko's experiences were just side-effects? I mean right now, the tone shift followed by helping us makes no sense. But, she helped us do something *he* didn't want us to do.
>>
>>27328999
She's clearly trying to use her power to force a character change on us while ignoring Anon.
>>
>>27328999
>>27329183
That could explain why she's so obviously evil. She's a threat to the protagonist, which makes her a "bad guy" by the terms of the story. None of this means she has anything against us.

Remember that Lilith was evil because she was a threat to Adam's authority. She never did nothing bad to Eve after she came around.
>>
>>27325677
Ahh~ Triclops neko-saan~
>>
>>27326890
The common way to do it would Ririsu, since it's the closest phonetic equivalent, and use the minimized u sound to terminate the word, making it pronounced "ree-Reece"
>>
The easiest way to tell would just try to influence Riritsu.
>>
>>27329580
True, but if she's sentient and doesn't know that we are as well (fairly likely, since she continues to attempt these auto-fail influence attempts for some damn reason) then attempting the same thing on her would instantly tip her off that we aren't just another waifu NPC. We'd basically be giving ourselves away just to confirm our own suspicions.
>>
>>27329630
Except... only sentients can't be influenced.

That's the whole point. If she keeps trying it strongly suggests she's running off dumb algorithms, and so it should succeed. If it fails, then she ALREADY knows we're sentient.
>>
>>27329808
She might not be aware that she's failing, or might believe she's failing for a different reason.

She's acting stupid on the surface, but she's clearly got an agenda and her plotting is more complex than anything exhibited by a non-sentient thus far, and most telling of all is the fact that she doesn't seem to care about Anon all that much. He's the protagonist, so the NPCs should all revolve around him or at least acknowledge his importance even if they aren't directly connected to him.

Either she is sentient, or she was created by an unknown sentient to act as a cat's-paw, because she sure as shit isn't acting like a typical NPC.
>>
>>27329915
On more than one occasion we've noticed her go "standby" when not interacting with a Sentient, so there may be puppeteering of some kind going on, too.
>>
>>27330269
We probably look like that too to an outside observer when we do our little time-warp thing that fast-forwards us through scenes we aren't involved in.

Like remember our little shopping trip? Except for the one scene we pretty much just drifted unaware through the whole thing, while Konoko seemed to be aware for most of it, or at least more of it than we were.
