"Let me get this straight," the captain says, exasperated, "Uurlor orchestrated an escape on an airship. Half the prisoners are dead, the other half are missing. We've got a traitor among the guards. Was there any warning?"

"Well, in hindsight, things seemed to get out of control when the beardless dwarf showed up."

"A dwarf without a beard?"

"Yes, sir. He only had a mustache."

"What is his name?"

"Kaarl."

I think people voted for going to the Orc tribe last thread, but I stand by going to the elves' city/town on the ground that it is closer and most likely better hidden.
>>
Your motley crew consists of you, Uurlor, Borthos, the three dark elves, the goblin Gren, and two humans who aren't important enough to be named characters. You spend the night getting bandaged up and recovering from the eventful ride.

From the wreckage of the airship, you've got rations for about a week. You're making your way to Uurlor's nomadic tribe, and presumably, safety.

The next morning, you set out, down the mountain. You make it down the mountain and into the forest by the time you're ready to make camp.

Someone should probably keep watch. Which shift do you want?

You're nearing the end of your shift and begin imagining how much better this would be if you had a beer. Suddenly, you hear rustling in the distance. You get off your ass and crouch, gripping your makeshift spear.

You don't see much in the dark, but you hear growling.

Sounds like a wolf picked a fight with the wrong dwarf.

Roll for combat, general strategy will make DC easier.

You make out a dark blob leaping from the other dark blob. The leaping one is probably the wolf. You wait until the last second, thrusting the spear out. It makes a single yelp, before falling like dead weight on top of you.

You throw the body aside, and take a few moments to enjoy your kill. The woods are quiet again, but you hear faint whining in the distance.

Following the noise, after going maybe twenty yards, you find a litter of 3 wolf pups. Looks like you just killed their mother. She was probably gone hunting during the day, and had just come back, while you inadvertently set up camp close to their den.

>Take a wolf pup. They're cute now, but you could probably train them to be vicious.

Uurlor wakes easily, but Borthos appears to be a heavy sleeper. You wake them as quickly and quietly as you can, apprising them of the situation.

Uurlor scratches his head. "There's three of them, and 6 of us, and it's dark. I don't think we could catch them, this being their home turf, and whatnot."

They were only allies of convenience anyway. Probably best to let them go on their way.

>Allies lost: the dark elves.

You go to sleep surrounded by the comforting warmth of furry bodies.

You awake with a start to the sound of a hunting horn just as the sun is beginning to rise. Sounds like a search party is after you and are nearby.

You have unusual stamina for a dwarf. Despite your short legs, you're out in front with Borthos, blazing the trail for the others to follow.

You come upon a stream running in your general direction. Perfect. Maybe that'll throw the pursuers off your trail and buy you some time.

The day is spent in flight. After several hours, Gren is falling behind, but you, Uurlor, and Borthos have plenty of energy left.

>Leave him. He's holding the group back, and if he's caught, It will buy you more time.

Borthos lifts Gren onto his shoulders. One of the human looks indignant. "You can't be serious. He's dead weight!"

"We started this together, we'll end it together." You say with finality. Gren looks at you with relief, and Uurlor nods respectfully.

>Influence gained: Gren

You emerge from the forest after several more hours at a grueling pace. In front of you is a great expanse of hilly grassland. There won't be much cover from here on out, but you've been going quickly enough that you bought some time. The sun is setting.

>Make camp somewhere. Uurlor's tribe is still about a day away.

You're all tired, and could use some rest. You'll be out be on your way before dawn. You nibble on some jerky and give the wolf pups some as well before passing out.

After a few hours of sleep, you still feel stiff, but at least ready to move again. The party continues on across the fields.

Eventually, you see smoke in the distance and Uurlor smiles. Looks like you found his tribe.

You approach the camp and Uurlor tells everyone to let him do the talking. The other orcs look at your ragged crew suspiciously.

"Brothers, I've returned!" Uurlor says, but something's wrong. Nobody rushes to greet him.

"You are to speak with the chief." One says curtly, and you can't get any more words out of them.

>>
>>27332422

Once you reach the chief, Uurlor's smile turns into a growl. "Rork, where is my father?"

"Your father regrettably died about a year ago. As the next in line, I have taken his place."

Clearly there is bad blood between these two. "My father was tougher than an ox. I don't believe he would have just fallen over."

"Are you accusing me of murdering a tribesman? Of murdering my chief? Bold words for one who has been sitting on his arse for several years."

Uurlor is visibly shaking. "I challenge you for my rightful place."

Rork laughs. "You expect me to accept, when you'll throw your pet bull at me? I refuse."

"I don't need the minotaur as my second to defeat you. I choose the dwarf."

Wait, what?

Things whirl around you, as you and Uurlor are rushed into a large open area.

"What was I just volunteered for?" You ask, pretty sure you're not going to like the answer.

"I invoked my right to challenge a weak leader." Uurlor explains. "Any chief worth his salt must have those willing to die for him. You and I will fight Rork and his chosen second to the death."

"I don't suppose there's a way to back out of this?"

"I may have spoken rashly, but I have a plan. First, pick your weapon."

You are presented with three options:

Uurlor grabs the bastard sword and tests its weight. Rork and another orc step into the clearing across from you, and the rest of a tribe is forming a large circle around you four.

Uurlor speaks in a hushed tone. "Rork was never the strongest fighter, else he could have killed my father in an honorable duel. His time as chief has has also softened him." He's right. Rork appears to be sporting a larger than usual gut. "Stall Rork while I take the other."

Well, you don't have a better plan.

Rork laughs. "Not even going to fight me yourself, Uurlor? You don't deserve to be chief."

He swings the mace, but your head barely makes it past his waist. You duck it easily and swing horizontally at his feet. Rork leaps backward, though the blade grazes his calf.

He sneers. "You would barely be a challenge for my wife, let alone an orc chief."

You slash with the axe again. "So when I kill you, does she become mine?"

Your next move is either amazing or amazingly stupid. You roll out of range of Rork and hurl your axe at the other orc's back, and slip around Rork's leg as he swings for you again.

Your axe lodges itself in the other orc's spine, which gives Uurlor the moment he needs to decapitate him in a quick swoop. The crowd goes wild, and you see fear spread across Rork's face.

Uurlor takes the other sword in his off hand and begins to walk forward. "What's wrong, Rork, scared?"

The crowd of orcs get down on one knee, probably showing alliance to the new chief.

After the fanfare dies down, Uurlor is decorated as chief, and a feast is set to happen in celebration. You are given the seat of honor next to Uurlor, and the tribe seems impressed by your showing.

You wake up with a pleasant hangover. Borthos is snoring next to you, and... isn't this a pleasant surprise. Looks like you and Borthos got some orc booty. Too bad you can't remember it happening.

You carefully step over the pairs of legs, to go get some air.

You can't really go back to the city, even if you wanted to. Seems like this would be a pretty sweet gig. You tell Uurlor you'd like to stay with him and the tribe for a while.

You've been through a lot in the short time you've known him, and Uurlor makes it clear that you're welcome to stay with the tribe as long as you want.

Uurlor was talking to some of the others last night about things which happned since he was gone. Seems like Rork was a particularly lazy leader. Most of the orcs had been feeling pent up without purpose. Uurlor thinks he knows how to remedy that.

The tribe is going to slay a dragon.
