Perhaps you might be overthinking things, but you didn’t budge a single muscles for a few long, long minutes, gazing everywhere around you and only stopping the occupied soldiers marching out or taking down some tents as others help out with some crates and cargo, several artisans seem to have been dispatched from the mainland and just now, a few smithies have opened along the docks, ready to repair the varied equipment’s of the soldiers or, quite simply, sell some stuff.

Independent suppliers make a killing with a war so close to home; independent Inquisitors like you are fully expected to provide your own equipment in the field…

Good thing you’ve kept that bag of gems with you before your betrayal; while you gave only a single one to Athena you still have around 4 emeralds which is bound to give you some serious cash if you could find some tinker, or maybe haggle and barter the thing outright.

You massaged the back of your neck as you spoke, alternating your gaze from the closed, magical tent to the busy camp, your current position offer you a nice view of the makeshift docks which evolved into an proper construction; the biggest ships have finally been able to stay on the land instead of relying on the crew and smaller vessels to empty their cargoes as they kept themselves outside the bay; you also might be able to gain some very useful information about rumors and such, maybe trying to dig some dirt on Audo or, alternatively, ask people about Leila. You have no clue of her whereabouts but the docks is the central place of the camps, nobody can avoid walking there at one time or the other, thus it’s the perfect place to find her.

There’s also the newly erected smithies; finding a good bow and some arrows could definitely be beneficial given your talents with such weapons or, you could also buy some others weapons for someone else, if you remember right Ithel did say that Emeth runes are able to imbue mundane weapons, albeit at the price of shattering them entirely after the first strike… Hell, the girl could do with some armor, even if it’s very likely to shatter under the pressures of her attacks… boots and gauntlets are going to be very short-lived.

That still does not discredit the effectiveness of weapons for your bodyguard; an incredibly offensive first strike could end the threat entirely…

Then your concentration is broken by a squad of soldier walking the lonely path of your area, each of time looking quite disgruntled under they’re armors and shields, you made way and stepped closer to your new quarters, looking inside was entirely impossible but you find yourself struck by momentary longing as you think of the two women inside – Mylen and Emeth- awaiting there for your return…

Hopefully their making themselves cozy but maybe you could try shopping around for something to keep your succubus distracted? Or just spend the entire day with them? Your mental health could use it... Maybe buying some presents…

It would seem that precious minerals are in high demand… and the few shops attracted enough soldiers to transform this blossoming market into a few pockets of packets streets that would be at home in any kind of capitals; that amount of people definitely seemed odd at first glance, but the vast majority were in full battle gear and more or less ready to set out at a moment notice; you simply came at the perfect time in between the departure of a good chunk of soldiers and them waiting for the order to form up outside the camp, meaning that they are free to liquidate their pays if, of course, it wasn’t sent to some kind of family.

Given how much time you’ve bumped in some shoulder pads, quite many went with the options of keeping their gold.
Regardless, before shopping for item proper you haggled with a few peddlers and smithies and managed to carve out these deals.

The best form fitted platted armor are much too onerous for you, next best thing would be a combination of half plate and chainmail which will go for around 250 gold.

Chainmail will go for around 100 gold, and that's without mentioning boots and gauntlets.

Siggy doesn't use armor because he summon ice plates in combat, effectively negating the financial need for a proper armor plate.

The fact you killed Noscrim isn't going to be unrewarded however, it jsut that those weapons are pretty damn hard to make and come in limited supply, there's not a whole lot of mages that tend to fight with imbued weaponry given that it's an art in of itself to actually enchant the damn things temporarily.

You can’t exactly give the location of your quarters to everyone, although, as your eyes fall on the longbow, you can’t help but wanting to bring it along.

At first glance, the weapon looked entirely normal and very boring but, upon recommendation by your good host you quickly discovered the hidden gem. Bending it was took efforts and strength, yet the woods proved pliable and malleable enough to bend to a point where your arm was forced in an uncomfortable position, very unfit for firing an arrow but proof enough of the flexibility of the weapon, the wood of the bow itself was very solid and while it bent like a charm, swinging the thing was actually possible if the situation grew desperate.
You have no idea what kind of wood this thing was made from, but it is undoubtedly a glorious purchase that’d only need a few replacements for the rope after extended usage in the rain.

Most of all, holding it brought back a wave of nostalgia, all the time you spent with your mother and Mylen in the archery range came rushing back like a tidal wave, which quickly grew bitter as you remembered how much the girls of Zipangu liked to relax around just such a construction inside the castle but, such feelings quickly grew into fierce resolve and determination; no need for brooding, you’ve got a job to do.

It’s good to have a bow; some men aren’t complete without a sword…

Finding and buying the entire set of items proved surprisingly easy, it’s a good thing you came with a knapsack (shamelessly taken from Ithel bric-a-brac); now your big collection of books is safely hidden inside along with a large piece of wood fit for carving and necessary knife, your other hand is holding onto the lute, clutching the instrument on your chest to avoid damaging it as you try your best at skillfully dodging the armored clad soldiers, and as you finally find your way out, you take a badly needed break and sit on some crates, taking a good view of a part of the docks and distract yourself from the fact that you've liquidated your entire short lived fortune.

Soldiers are disembarking from a particularly large carrack and lining up into a solid, disciplined square; large shield held proudly at the right as they wait for the lieutenant who bark his marching order and follow by blowing his whistle, immediately the inevitable click and clacks of armors resonate all around as the crusaders disappears outside your field of view, prompting you to get it from your little break and step outside, the marine air of the salty water assail your nostril and you can’t help but grimace, the sounds and smell of the wave isn’t natural to you who grew up in the middle of a country of harsh winters with rivers and lakes as biggest ponds of water.

Well since you’re here…

The docks are definitely big, but it’s also the main part of the camp; nobody escape at least a detour around this place and there’s a lot of quiet places here and there in between the tents which give a better, more entertaining view than the sky.

However there’s two ladies waiting back in your tent and it would be most unbecoming of a gentleman to stretch the limits of their patience, as such you shoulder the sack and head back to your tent while keeping a look out, blonds aren’t in short supplies around these parts but someone with hair as long and smooth as Leila is actually enough of an oddity to stand out amidst similar fellows and to your chagrin, you don’t spot anyone of her build, let alone anyone sporting the dark nuns robes of a Purifier.

Given the complete and total isolations of sounds, you couldn’t exactly hear anything as you came in and of course, the runes camouflaged the entrance, making looking through or around the drape of the entrance a total impossibility.

You just happen upon a peculiar scene.

Mylen and Emeth were facing each-others, the sole table of the tent had been pulled around the bed where Mylen was sitting while Emeth was comfortably resting on the chair, the two of them holding hands while they’re elbows rested on the table and Mylen, the magnificent raven haired beauty that she ever is, was somehow down to her dark underwear, her leather wings kept flapping for some strange reason and the two women simply stared at you and you, of course, stared back.

While you’ve only had a glance of the docks and absolutely nothing on the main camp, Leila struck you as a bit of a loner (actually, probably a big one) and a place full of people moving heavy crates and complaining doesn’t sound like the best spot for relaxation, as far inner camp is concerned she’s likely to get interrupted by some angry and discipline starved would-be lieutenant asking her why a rookie is dozing off…

You can’t help but chuckle imagining some kind of hard ass instructor realizing he just bad mouthed a full-fledged agent. Some solitude outside the camp itself is likely, of course thinking she’d wander off completely out the safely patrolled area for some relaxation is a dubious idea, thus you narrow down your field of operations to the small clearings outside, not exactly populated by the soldiers or artisans but sometime used as a spot for friends or lovers, although this early in the morning, you don’t catch anyone, and every person you bump into on the main road have no idea of the whereabouts of a ‘’young long haired blond garbed in dark Purifier clothes’’

This look like it’ll be a long one…

More than once you were almost swept away by the vivid need of letting loose a few arrows in some innocent trees as you looked around the forests around the camp, the sound of activity was as feverish as ever and never let up once even as you tried looking a bit further on; regiments of soldiers were now sent deeper into the country, few by few soldiers were sent into the new set of temporary camps as new arrivals formed the temporary new guard of the main camp, the crusade was proceeding smoothly for now, you know very well that the monsters have retreated into a set of double forts built for the purpose of holding foreign invasions… the opening move had just barely ended and now the meat of this grinder will start in earnest.

Regardless, your efforts proved fruitless.

You happened upon a cave that showed itself empty, a large clearing devoid of trees and full of flowers was absent of cute blond and all around the few sentries you saw, nobody caught a glimpse of the girl and in the end you had to abandon and go back on the trail to your quarters, an increasingly large empty pit in your stomach started an inevitable chain of dread as you became more and more convince that the girl had outright abandoned you with the sword… Was she really that type of person…?

And then you came face to face with her, out of absolutely nowhere.

You are coming down the trail of the forest and she’s coming up, hand on her waist, latching onto the Holy sword as her lovely face look slightly upward, the nun outfit gave a slight vision of her legs and she replaced the cute hat atop her head as her eyes escaped yours.

‘’Fancy, seeing you there.’’

She speak with obvious awkwardness and you almost blurt out a frustrated ‘’where the hell have you been!?’’ but masterfully contain your irritation in favor of embracing the good feelings of simply seeing her instead.

‘’Well I’ve been looking for you actually?’’

And then she finally gaze at you and your words dies in your throat as you rock your mind for the next words…

It’s impossible to avoid seeing the weapon wrapped around your chest and the large quiver on your back, you’d prefer the thing to be placed at the level of your kidneys but it’s too big to stay there without the arrows falling out.

You beam with confidence but quickly move on, you’d love nothing more than fire some shots… but you’ve got something to do even on your leisure day.

The girl look downs right in the middle of your sentence, a small grimace appear on her lisps but she quickly settle down, letting go of the pommel of the sword she gaze back at you and you find yourself momentarily lost in the bright green of her eyes.

She adds an awaked ‘’eh he…’’ at the end that almost makes you laugh, you never she could be this adorably awkward.

A reasonable request, Mylen deserves an explanation as well but the question is… can they be trusted with the secret of your upcoming assassination? Leila want the truth and maybe, just maybe, Radiance could act as some form of lying detector, you could take the chance, or simply say nothing at all and allow her to go back to the Purifier and, inevitably, away from you.

You’ll have to think long and hard as you come back to your tent, mister Shieffer.

12th day of Prophecy, 11:01 am, inside the crusader camps of Zipangu, standing near your tent.

Leila request wasn’t an unreasonable one, especially given your histories; the girl was one of the few people who interacted with you during the worst of your amnesia where you were still grasping along trying to find in the world, however her ominous promise when the two of you crossed path left more than a simple impression, after all that woman swore to kill you if you were planning to betray the church…

The murder of the High Inquisitor falls squarely under that category even if it’d help the unity of the Faith during the crusade, but then come the fact that refusing her request will motivate her to return to the Purifiers and, in all likelihood, out of your grasp for the rest of the war itself; you’ve seen how that woman fight and you know she’d make a fantastic ally and, like Hieronymus Lex, she’s actually quite reasonable with monsters… and your homeland has entered alliance with Zipangu.

The Church tends to ask the nasty, nasty demand of loyalty over one country, but would that be the case with Leila?

As you walked with the girl, you weren’t able to pick up on any king of nervousness or dread, she faced forward with all the chivalry and inner strength of a proper soldier, or more accurately, someone coming to a resolution and finding peace in the imposed ultimatum which cause an unending race for your poor brain as you battled the two realities; either come clean or lose this girl as an ally for the rest of the war.

Despite the constant interruptions with the soldiers as you crossed path and stepped away from the column to disappear into the countryside, you came back to your tent much sooner than anticipated and you could only let out a long, long sigh while rubbing the back of your neck and examining the subtle magical barrier all around the reinforced, runed silk.

‘’So this is your new tent… I see, there’s no chance that anyone could overhear with this set up’’

Leila stepped forward but stopped as you stood your ground, your gaze meet momentarily and the Purifier somehow lost the courage to keep your eyes locked. Part of you wonder if she’s feeling guilty about putting you on the spot like that, but you don’t want to hear any apology on her part; her demand but not unreasonable.

Leila give a small bow to the succubus; the entire scene look surreal, to think that a Purifier would actually give some apology to a Succubus prisoner inside the crusader camp is either ironic or lunatic.

‘’I…I’m not sure. First I was thinking that you somehow grew disgruntled with the monsters but then your encounter with this… this woman really threw me off, as well as what I could hear from your discussions with Lex.’’

She stop, obviously not expecting to be put on the spot so suddenly, this girl was there during your interrogation with Lex, where you revealed your objective without giving a hint of the means to achieve it; no wonder that’d leave her perplexed, this ultimatum of her, this chance to explain yourself is nothing short of a miracle; it’d be much too easy for an agent of the church to come up with their own conclusions and follow them forthwith.

‘’A more concrete answer would be… Either you planned to infiltrate this base on the order of the monsters or you’re planning something of your own, if it’s in the best interest of both factions of this war, I can’t say. If only this woman knew how close you came to a cardiac arrest when you had to play the part of a jailer…Then you see Leila looking down, Mylen sentence wasn’t ignored and you make sure to press onward, taking in a few large breath and breaking the handholding with Emeth who whimper in protest but you walk away from her and instead go into the middle of the tents, the three girl stare now intensely upon you.

You finally announce, your back to them, you feel enough dread to send your heart pounding, thankfully the golem immediately to remedy the situation by sending constant emotions of serenity and calm through the link; it’s a godsend for certain.

You stop, looking at Leila whose brows have furrowed, changing her expression from disbelief to outright outrage, she let out a single breath of pure, raw rage while her sword arm tremble slightly, taking out the sword a little further but, she calm down fast, although her face is still colored in red.

‘’And causing unending bloodshed after the war. Even if the Church and Zipangu could end the war peacefully, he would cause the collapse of the peace without fail.’’

It’s not unusual to find the prospect of peace between the Church and Zipangu preposterous and downright impossible, in fact you sincerely doubt it could happen at all; but Lex is the best first step for such a reality, beside nobody knows about the Gwynhedd-Zipangu alliance, perhaps soon to be Commonwealth.

Leila mutters but you press onward, walking back and forth slightly before stopping and facing the women directly, going as far as putting your hands behind your back and projecting as much strength as you could.

There's a power struggle within the Demons, and Deruella appears to have gathered enough support to form a powerful splinter faction.’’

‘’Demons’’

Both girls spoke at once, the realization of your implications hitting them like a galley caught in a storm and Leila is the first one to jump from her seat.

You shake your head and put your index forward.

‘’I’ll be getting to that, but know that Ahriman staying alive will ensure that everything falls apart, and that no one will be able to win except Deruella and her Fallen Maidens. Forcing the golem army, perhaps even making it go berserk and run amok in the ranks of the crusaders, to name a simple, desperate plan. You can tell Leila doesn’t exactly like this at all, she’s grasping the sword with enough strength to turn her knuckles whites, but never once did the blade retreat to its scabbard.

You don’t have any doubt now, Radiance is listening.

Time to see if they’ll think you a lunatic or not, Mylen and Leila are all but suspending at your words and you can’t help but wonder if you’d have some talents as a storyteller.

You spoke with enough gravity and seriousness to make these words as serious and truthful as your speech up to you and you can tell it’s a very hard pill to swallow for both women who exchange stares and look at you with varying emotions, however your history up to know is more than enough to chase the idea of hidden insanity.

You simply stay silent, Mylen was always a bit of a sharp one when it concerned you; hitting the bull’s-eye only to let it go, like now as she stand up as well, deploying the delicious set of leathery wing at her hips to give some presence to her stature.

How… you find holding the stare of the succubus pretty hard right now, however the unvoiced question doesn’t escape your faithful bodyguard and she puff up even more, looking even more prideful.
