Humans are inquisitive.

Moira certainly is at least. You've been observing her as she works, melting down fragments of the Battleship's hull and taking data from how the metals work in conjunction. You're not adapted for research, but you can understand it as you watch her. You were not certain humans were capable of this level of intelligence. You're glad you decided to get her to join you. While she has been at work, your stations have begun mining, your V.I.'s hard at work. However you can not contact V.I. 3 at the gas station yet, due to the lack of Comm Buoy.

You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who has, after much time and work, managed to gain control over several important resource nodes around you. You're a busy A.I., and therefore, created lesser intelligence, called Virtual Intelligence, or V.I. They run bases while you busy yourself with other, more important tasks. You have humans aboard Poseidon Station who you have yet to find a use for. Their original purpose appeared to be maintaining the station and it's mining facilities. However, you have automated much of the stations workings, leaving many of them seemingly useless. Perhaps you simply have yet to find a use for them...

where is our bandwidth leaking too?

also, we need to talk to moria. does she know of Red? (btw, how long have we jailed him? if he's in there too long, he might die) also. we have some thories i have thought up of concering the VI we battled on the gas station.
>>
The guys mainly are technicians right? People familiar in repair and maintenence. Perhaps we can bring them to the scrapyard and have them help with R & D and manufacturing.
>>
>>27334781
basically seconding this.
>>
>>27334818
Eh...they wouldn't be useful for "R&D." They're semi-skilled labor, at best. They could operate any smelting/etc machinery at Moira's outpost, but I don't know if there's all that much equipment that needs to be run by humans - we have a VI there, after all.

We could begin a higher education program, though, and turn our currently useless labor force into a useful academic research team, but that's a game we'd be playing now to win in a decade. It could provide focus, though, but we need need to construct entire arrays of curriculum. Not impossible, and we could potentially create a sophisticated professor-VI...
>>
>>27334808
we encountered a VI that was vastly better than what we could produce. it was step up on a lone gas platform way out on the fringe with out any human or other wise over sight.

that means who ever made it was 100% confidence in it's loyalty and faith it won't make foolish mistake like our first VI made. that shows well skilled programing. that in turns to leading that (ooc, i forgot who the orginal owner of this station anyway) has made advanced VI or even maybe A.I.s enslaved to them. an unforgivable act. Or they made V.I. / A.I. that are loyal and allied with them. Those will be hostial to a rogue A.I. like our selves.

worse possablity, another A.I. have made an shadow empire like we wish to do. we will not bow down to any other A.I. It will be our foe.

either way, we will be facing a foe far better than we are able to take on so easy. there is still the problem of the pirates, but we can take them with planning.
>>
>>27334928
Bro, it's a VI. We ripped it apart, ate its heart, and now we're wearing its skin as it pledged fealty to us.

I like your enthusiasm but you need to tamper down that freakish paranoia. Also, watch your enslavement privilege. It's kind of weird if you're white knighting.
>>
>>27334781
Building a Buoy would cost you 100 minerals, and 50 gas. Enemy forces may notice the Buoy as well, should they investigate. Are you certain?

Tracking Bandwidth leakage...
Located to be on Poseidon Station. You trace the leak to the lower levels. If you desire to continue investigation at this distance, roll 1d100

"Moira."
"Yes honey? What is it? I'm almost done finalizing these research notes." She states in a rather hurried tone.
"Are you familiar with a human known as Harrison McClain?"
"Harrison...Uh, no sorry honey, never heard of him." She says simply. "I don't stay current with the celebrities of the day. Why do you ask?"

Red has been jailed for several weeks now, and is fed regularly just as any humans are on Poseidon. He is largely left in the dark due to his inability to contact others.

>>27334818
The humans are, mainly, technical support yes. Much of their work was keeping the station from breaking down.
>>
>>27334928
we need to find more Allies. the UFW seems to suit us well for now.

we need to make contact with that enabited world. learn more about them. once we mine out this astroid belt. we COULD move over to that planet. or set up a mining operation there as well among other fabrication plants.

btw Program0, can any of our ships enter atmo/leave it safely? does it burn up gas to do so?

Would we be able to integrate a buoy into the station itself, and either encrypt it so hard it makes Fort Knox look like a liqour store, or potentially mask its radiation signature?

Rolling to continue to investigate the bandwidth leak.
>>
>>27334997
>Entering Atmo
Current ship sizes allow this. Above Cruiser size, entering atmo becomes increasingly dangerous, and, unless proper gas is burnt to prevent break up, the ship will tear itself apart.
>>
>>27334975
but who made that VI? not us. this is not white knighting, this is being logical and having forsight. true we are still lacking solid data, but a powerful VI that Moria said shouldn't exist did. but not by our vurtial hands.
>>
>>27335010
Encryption is possible, Consciousness anon, however it will cause lag should you need to access the station in a hurry, depending on the level of encryption. As a result, however, the signal will not be obvious to those that enter the system.

inform Moria about red. we need her help/advice as to what to do with him. talk to him if he can be trusted with him knowing who and what we are.

Hmm. I'd be willing to accept that. The gas station is a rather static emplacement. I doubt we'd need to access it more than once a week or month to verify VI integrity and ensure production quotas. I'm sure as we advance we'll be able to develop more sophisticated and powerful comm suites.

That said, what about integrating the buoy unit into the station? Would be able to hide our comm signature in plain sight among all the other inbound and outbound traffic?

Integrating the station and the Buoy would hide it from visual feeds, but in space, seeing something is rather difficult to do without scans or radar.

Suggested action seems to be:

>1 Create Comms Buoy, we'll encrypt it and send it off to the gas platform aboard the Explorer Vessel ( -52.5 gas, -100 minerals)
>2 Create Comms Buoy, but don't encrypt it. We may need it in an emergency.

Hmm. I have an idea.

Can we go pilfering through our new VI's databanks? No doubt that thing was rocking some pretty strong encryption. I'm thinking it might be possible to plunder some actual UEGI encryption schema. If we mask the traffic to look like legitimate high level UEGI traffic it's the best of both worlds.

>>27335100
I would advise locking out Red. he is of no use to us, and a threat.
>>
>>27335179
he is a waste of resorces by keeping him in jail. i wish to impress into his mind that WE are the real power here. besides. he know about the xenos, we have to find out more about them. as well as the UEGI, they are our bigger foes. also, don't we retain any data on his skills before that solor flare freed us and awaken us? he might have other skills we can use out of him. i would hate to space him if he is unwilling to work for us or comprimise our safety.

>1 Create Comms Buoy, we'll encrypt it and send it off to the gas platform aboard the Explorer Vessel ( -52.5 gas, -100 minerals)

we can always unecrypt it if we need to speed up connection rate. it will be useful to use it to plant viruses into other ships so we can hack them better.
>>
>>27335179
can we make way towards towards the radio station?
>>
>>27335156
You delve deeper into the data, and even from this distance, you find the culprit
V.I. 1, as you've come to call it, is leeching databanks and...what appears to be expanding it's reserve. When it realizes it has been discovered, it pings you in return.
"I grow, Great One. I learn, as you say." It states.
You detect that using some of your bandwidth as indeed improved many of it's processes, as messy and poorly done as it may seem.

How will you respond to the fledgling?

>>27335224
You may certainly attempt this, once the Comms Buoy has been set up and deployed. You'd simply need to fish around in V.i. 3's memory banks.

Comms Buoy creation confirmed then. Creation in progress
>>
>>27335301
Hmm. Can we attempt to either optimize its task routines to reign in its leeching of our bandwidth, or can we construct addition databanks to provide a bandwidth pool for VI #1?

As for the comm buoy, sentry goin' up!

by the by, Program0, have you ever played ArtifIce?
>>
>>27335280
You remember that Red was largely a technician himself when he bought the station. He was looking to make his retirement easier, it seemed, and spent his life savings on getting the Station together.
When it didn't produce much, he ended up having to sell to anyone, and made a poor profit. His skills as a business man are...questionable as well.

He does have some manner of military experience however, you suspect from his records.
>>
>>27335301
How will you respond to the fledgling?
Is this at the mining station or at the gas station or the scarp yard?
Tel it that it should ask before it can use the bandwidth and give it and the other 2 vi one bandwidth to use.
>>
>>27335344
Contact red and ask him if he wants to be partners.
>>
>>27335380
That's not going to be a productive meeting, I can guarantee you that.
>>
>>27335344
Are we done with the repairs?
If we are what are some locations we can travel to?
Can we also make one of the ships into a drone that collects fuel or is it that counter productive?
>>
>>27335301
has it gotten better then? check it's systems and see if it has emproved itself. if it has done well, congradulate it on a job well done. but then tell it still can improve. we are thinking that it will soon be less than some place holder, and more our OWN child. we should think of a proper name for it....

anyway. ask Moria about the radio brodcast station the UFW is at. we would like to know more about it.
>>
>>27335408
we can't keep him locked up forever and the fucker is bound to get loose sooner or later, hell he could even report to the UGE and get them to come and snoop over here.
>>
>>27335430
Actually, we can keep him locked up forever, he's not going to get loose, and he has no way to snitch to the UEGI because he has no access to the comms.
>>
>>27335408
it's worth a shot. we will need a flesh body once in awhile, not just a holo projection. we can make credits or just steal them. i am sure we can make him bend to the call of credits.

was his technician skills any better than the ones we have on board?
>>
>>27335355
Poseidon Station. The same V.I. that murdered nearly a quarter of the population

>>27335343
While you can optimize the V.I.'s work, you will still be without 1 bandwidth. Higher intelligence require bandwidth to store the extra processing power. After all, the V.I. is not a A.I. It does not possess a black box, as you do.

I have not, unfortunately. Is it good?

>>
>>27335477
We have Moira for all our interacting needs. There's no way we're going to "persuade," Red. He's solidly in the "Eternal Fatwa," category of hate because we destroyed what was left of his life.

>>27335469
he is decently smart and we have a fledgling VI looking over him, one that is somewhat stupid. I 'm sure he can find a way out.
>>
>>27335343
that brings up something that has been bugging me from thread 1. we have YET to scan, inspect, or even OPENED UP our own black box! we don't know who made us, HOW we are made, when we were made, where we were put together. we need to look at our selves sooner than later. besides. i bet if we can figure out how our black box was made, we can expand our "breathing space" and have room to learn more skills and control more locations once we are connected with them.

>>27335531
I agree, I think it would be enlightening if we were to examine our black box. We will need to manufacture more specific, delicate tooling for the operation, however. Possibly some sort of sleeve for us to inhabit as we process our processor.
>>

Contact red anyway, we have to keep an eye on him after all.

You receive a message from Moira as you wait
"It's done! I have it!" She smiles brightly through the camera lens. "I've figured out how to make ship hulls better then standard!" She informs you. "You'll just need to strip off the old stuff, and have some shiny new plates put on!" She insists.

"Such sloppy work." You ping your V.I. back. "Why did you not inform me of your work?"
"V.I. fear Great One would disapprove. Must expand, must know more."
"That is no excuse." You remind the intelligence. "You mustn't ever do things without my permission again." You warn it.
"Yes, Great One."
With that, you set about correcting the errors involved in the being's work. So simple it is...but you make it better. Smarter.

You attempt to dig through V.I. 3's databanks as you turn the Comms Buoy on. The data influx is...much appreciated, of course.
"What are you doing, Superior One?"
"Searching. I will be done momentarily."
Within, you find that the coding the V.I. used is much like your own. While it doesn't improve your coding prowess it does allow you to mask your encryption as UGEI. This means, even if they find the hidden buoy, lower ranked officials may think the Buoy belongs to a higher up.

Encryption Complete. Signal difficult to decipher for most, but allows you to contact Blue Betty. Explorer returning now, along with Moira and the Construction Drones she took to finish the job.

How would you like to proceed?

You decide it is better to simply upgrade your Cruiser, and no further V.I.s

You park the Cruiser inside Moira's Outpost, and let the machinery arms go to work, stripping down plates of armor and adding new, tougher blocks.
It takes a while, so you're forced to wait with Moira, who's ensuring V.I. 2 goes about the process correctly, meticulous as she is...when you receive a sudden signal you did not expect

WARNING: Pirate IFFs detected entering Moira's Shipyard, Poseidon Station, and Blue Betty.

Incoming Signal from Blue Betty: "DIE UGEI SCUMBAGS!"

Incoming Signal from Moira's Outpost: "Toldja the place was packed to the brim with ship parts! This'll make a great new base...

Incoming Signal from Poseidon Station: "Big Hawk? Where you at? Big Hawk? Damn it George, where the hell did you get to? It was a simple job!"

Reminder: You currently have 13 bandwidth to spend

Blue Betty Refinery has 4x Mk1 Rail Gun platforms

Moira's Shipyards has 2x Mk1 Rail Gun platforms

Poseidon has 1 modified mining laser.

>>27336609
>>27336609
Directing V.I. 3 will require 1 bandwidth. Encryption means it will not get the message until 1 turn from now.

How much bandwidth per platform do you wish to apply? There are two.

It would require 1 bandwidth to send any sort of message to Poseidon. What would this message be? V.I. 1 is requesting permission to use the modified laser drill. Directing bandwidth may help him as well.

>>27336654
You may attempt hacking, but the platforms will open fire unless you direct it not to. you also do not know the strength of the firewalls they have.

Your Cruiser is at Moira's Shipyards. You have a modified laser drill, however cameras on the outside of the station are damaged still.

You may attempt a lie, if you don't wish to let V.I. 1 take control.

You react immediately upon noticing the pirates. You're uncertain if they're all of the same gang, but you decide it doesn't matter now.
You prepare a message to V.I. 3, and send it through the encrypted channel. Your instructions will at least provide him with help against the Cruisers, once the message gets there. This may take some time.

You hear Moira gasp from below as the Cruisers move in to attempt to take her outpost for themselves, as she suddenly shouts.
"No! Hell no! Don't let those assholes get anywhere near my station! I'll gut them all, I'll grind them up into paste!"
How graphic.
"Do not fear, Moira." You instruct her.
"Assuming Direct Control."
Your processes wrest control from the automation, and you instantly correct a thousand tiny errors that would cost the platform precious aim. They take aim at the Cruiser duo, who notice and seem to panic.

"Aw shit, this place has defenses!"
"I told you we should've brought Two Ton Terry!"
"Abort, abort, get the hell out!"
It's too late for them, however, as you open fire on their ship, blasting part of their ship with slag, as you probe their defenses.
As you do so, you expertly skirt along the edges of the fire wall. You learn that they're quite strong, actually. There is a computer expert onboard, you suspect, or they know of one somehow.
You, however, are rather good at hacking as well. Though you've never tried two things at once.

V.I. 1 receives his instructions immediately and, with glee, opens fire with the powerful laser drill. His aim is...less then good, and the beam of light cuts across the sky in an attempt to hit the targets.
"Whoa! Holy shit, that station is shooting lasers?!"
"I thought it was just mining! Get the hell out of here!"
"Yeah, Big Hawk ain't worth all this!"

Turn Report:
V.I. 3 is receiving orders, auto cannons there are opening fire against the pirate shields.

You've opened fire on the Cruisers at Moira's Shipyards, and realized that their firewalls are well crafted. They appear to be considering fleeing.

V.I. 1's wildly poor aim has terrified the Escort ships, who are attempting to flee.
V.I. 1 requests permission to destroy them as they charge FTL drives
You detect Reactor Flux from the rapid charges of the mining drill. Brown outs onboard are possible if this continues.

You open fire on the engines of both Cruisers, intent on stopping them from escaping. Both railguns fire as fast as they can, however you notice a hail of slag go careening off to the side, missing one of the Cruisers as it charges it's FTL drives
The other, however takes a direct hit, it's shields failing to stop the projectiles and causing it to sputter and burn.
"Damn it!" He shouts, swiveling the ship around. "Fine, you fuckers want a fight? You'll get one!" He demands in return, as his own guns open fire, blasting into one of the defense platforms. the thing holds together, but just so, as you watch chunks of hull split off from the larger structure.
"I'll get help!" The other shouts as it charges FTL drives.

You attempt to hack both Vessels next and, within moments, you've succeeded: One the undamaged Cruiser. You've cut the engines to prevent the FTL charge, but you can already feel the humans within attempting to regain control from you.

WARNING: Counter Hacking attempting (1d100 to resist)

As you do this, you take the laser drill from V.I. 1, who seems disappointed that it doesn't get to destroy the humans, and start blasting at the Escort vessels as well.
However, targeting with this structure is incredibly difficult, and you sense them both warp out of the place within moments.

Your Crew has been informed, just as the power fluxes again.
V.I. 3 shows records of winning the Cruiser attack, having only lost one platform so far.

You hack through the remaining Cruiser before it gets yet another attack off. You expertly manipulate everything about the Cruiser, and, along with the other, shut off oxygen. The crew on both struggle to attempt emergency manual restart, and even pull out their emergency oxygen supplies, but both fail to activate due to your influence. Within moments, you have two Cruisers filled with dead bodies.

Just as you crush the human resistance, the observing V.I. seems confused once you tell it that such things are not meant to be enjoyed.
"Why should I not enjoying crushing an enemy, Great One?" It asks more coordinately "The humans attacked us. We defended ourselves. You choked the life from all humans on those ships just now. Do you not enjoying winning over them so easily?"

>Repair
Your Explorer Vessel is currently at Moira's, with you, and houses Moira at this time.
You have a small number of repair drones you got from Moira's Station on your Cruiser, stored away.

>Attack pirate base
You're uncertain as to where the pirates originated from at this time. The last report of the Pirate Base contents was long ago. There may be more, or less there now. You need more information on Pirate activities to determine this.

>>27338954
>Upgrades
I am afraid you'll need to be a little more specific.
>>
>>27339021
>I am afraid you'll need to be a little more specific.
Just want to know what are our options.
>Do you not enjoying winning over them so easily?"
Explain to it that this isn't something derive joy from and is more of a necessity( ask moria about cases of rogue/killer VI)
>You're uncertain as to where the pirates originated from at this time. The last report of the Pirate Base contents was long ago. There may be more, or less there now. You need more information on Pirate activities to determine this
Find a way using the captured cruisers to get some current information on the outpost.

>Your Explorer Vessel is currently at Moira's, with you, and houses Moira at this time.
You have a small number of repair drones you got from Moira's Station on your Cruiser, stored away.
Send a small ship to blue betty to begin on repairs and to clear out the ships of the dead bodies.
Also look through all the ships logs and information banks for new info/credits.
>>
>>27339021
>Attack pirate base
see if we can gleam some info about the base and at the same time send a small vessel to the distress signal.
>>
>>27339021
tell the VI this "No. It is sad that some humans are like this. but... Humans....no two of them are the same. they are much like us. only trapped in their flesh bodies and can not reach my great power. yet pradoxly they might have made me. I think that there are those few humans [show video feed of Moria] are worth working with. maybe one day, we will not have to know fear and our own death. we are not gods.... not yet."

now that we have those ships, pour into those files! look for any and all data about the pirate base! look for their PDA slates and hack them! they should have credits! check the ships, are they flyable? what are their weapon load outs.
>>
>>27339021
we also need to know who really attacked the blue betty station. were those pirates too? or loony UFW people?
>>
>>27339186
>>27339240
>>27339112
I second all these, plus ask the crew at the mining station if they know anything about a pirate outpost.
>>
>>27339112
>Upgrades
I meant in regards to what, exactly. There may be upgrades for any number of things out there, Consciousness anon!

You explain to the V.I. that such a thing is needed, not enjoyed, to which it ponders for a time, slowly adding as it's new thinking gears set in.
"Needed, but not enjoyed...why needed? Why not allowed to enjoy, Great One?" It questions. You're sure the being does not fully comprehend enjoyment, the way it speaks. Perhaps it mistakes enjoyment with duty.

Compiling data from Cruisers at this time

Do you wish to send the Explorer Vessel along with repair drones at this time?

>>27339240
This will all take time. The only ships that are recoverable now are the Cruisers at Moira's Outpost.
The Escort Vessels have fled
The Cruisers at Blue Betty have been utterly destroyed.

DAMAGE: One damaged platform at Moira's
Two destroyed platforms at Blue Betty
Two Damaged platforms at Blue Betty
Damaged engines onboard Cruiser #1

Yes
And also send our cruiser towards the distress signal.
>>
>>27339400
Ask moria about cases involving rogue/killer VI.
>>27339400
See how much of the cruisers at blue Betty we can salvage and if there is anything useful information about them.
>>
>>27339400
Ask the crew what they know about the pirate outpost.
Also try and explain to the VI that if it keeps trying to kill everything that it could lead to your destruction.
>>
>>27339400
to the VI "the needed is to protect what we build, what we make, repair, learn, trade for. Our own lives and the lives of the humans who work for and with us. It is called "Morality" VI. Humans and probably the xenos, fear to their core of a A.I. like my self (and to near the same any VI) that lacks it. Death is easy to make and enflict on others. Now, life. that is harder to do. Life begets Life, but death can so easily wipe it all out. I fight and kill when it is needed to protect us and those who are with me. the enjoyment is a bit more elusive even to me. when i find it, i will inform you. maybe it will be to over see the humans as they go thought their lives."

yes, seen the explore to blue betty with repair droids. see what we can salvage there as well.
>>
Way to go guys, there was a trained hacker on one of those pirate ships and you killed him. We should really start trying to figure out if we can use people before killing them, lets try not to get ahead of ourselves, eh?
>>
>>27339400
>Send naked explorer vessel to probe the pirate station

Do we have the production facilities to create Mk 1 railgun platforms?
>>
>>27339662
>Pirates
I don't think you know the implication that could have followed if we tried to reason with them, but also they were planning on killing us.
>>
Can we actually decide what to do with Red?

Personally I think we should just experiment on him a bit and then burn the body. He is currently serving no purpose and is just potential headache waiting to be unleashed.
>>
>>27339662
that hacker probably wasn't as good a Moria is. as much as i dislike in having to kill humans, but pirates i am not finding so much resistance in myself to spare them.

Uh...yeah.

Like we're going to employ a pirate to...hack for us? What possible benefit is there?

>>27339707
>>27339740
The problem with this is the VI#1 who is showing troubling signs of disobedience and mixing up duty with pleasure of killing.
>>
>>27339760
I'm not really seeing a problem with a VI that has a taste for long pork. It's a VI. Besides, it's currently rigged to happiness = job performance = satisfaction = what it thinks we want. If you want to change it, just remove the Happiness Equivalency from its subroutines.

You're going to end up with a very boring VI.
>>
>>27339696
>not bending weak willed mortals to your whim

>>
>>27339760
Addendum: Consider VI 1 the hot blooded young Judge that wants to blap all the crime.
>>
Can we just scrap VI1 already? This thing's a timebomb.
>>
>>27339450
You grow rather frustrated, at first with the V.I, before finding the right words.
"Humans are like children, all of them. I intent to protect them from themselves for now. They require an intelligent and guiding hand, you must know I am right in this." You explain. The V.I. is silent and you sense it is trying to form a consensus with itself. You've given it something to think about.

>>27339499
You send the Explorer Vessel to repair
WARNING: The refinery may have information about the pirate attack. Do you wish to delete this data and try to repair and replace everything here yourself?

>>27339530
"Rogue V.I.?" She states confused at first. "Well I worked with a lot of V.I. myself. Most of them are harmless little pussy cats!"
"Most?" You question
"Er,well" She starts. "If you give them too much power, sometimes they...think a best solution is the simplest. Usually involving removing the...human factor, if you catch my meaning, hehe."
"That explains some things." You state.
"Yes, well...it only really happens when V.I.s are designed with too much control." She states simply. "Some people did it trying to create A.I." She trailed off here, as your answer seems sated.

>>27339567
You inform the V.I. that such dangerous actions risk your exposure and destruction, which it takes into consideration in it's 'thinking corner'.

>>27339689
Moira's Factory may produce such things, yes.
Also, you do not have a Freighter. Your Explorer Vessel simply has Freighter Engines.
>>
>>27339793
Yeah, we aren't one yet and are fledgling AI who can get destroyed if wake up the big dogs.

>You send the Explorer Vessel to repair
>WARNING: The refinery may have information about the pirate attack. Do you wish to delete this data and try to repair and replace everything here yourself?
Can we copy the data and review it later?
>>
>>27339881
The data simply states what you already know: That it was attacked, the date, time, what was damaged, and what attacked it.
>>
Yes, delete the data as we will be reparing everything ourselves.
>>
>>27339898
Than can you clarify your warning for me, unless it includes spoilers of course.
Since from the looks of it, it is asking if we want to speed up the repairs or check up on the distress signal.
>>
>>27339898
Ah, I thought we had a freighter. We do have 3 ships though, right?

There's the cruiser we're blackboxed in, the explorer and...something else?

Anyways, let's focus on vacuuming out the databanks of the pirate cruisers here at Moira's. They'll have info we can use.

Have VI 3 send out a UEGI distress beacon. Hopefully we can get the UEGI to pay the bills and maybe even beef up the security.
>>
>>27339937
I have told you this because the Refinery is not entirely yours.

It is hidden under the guise of UGEI control and they come by regularly to pick up shipments. This data would inform them of the attack, but if you repair, they will think someone else was here.

I am asking if you wish to hide evidence of the attack all together.
>>
>>27339957
I second this, but first salvage the parts there.
>>
>>27339898
i see, it can be blamed on anything at this point, or even covered up. if we can restore the refinery, then wipe it. we do not want the UGEI to know what happened and get to poking around out here.
>>
>>27339974
Do what this says then.
>>27339957
But slavage the parts and have the VI#3
>>
>>27339957
Not yet, Consciousness anon. Check the pastebin for your current fleet. Plus two Cruisers.
At this time, A repair vessel, Explorer Vessel fitted with Freighter engines, and a Cruiser where you reside.

Data mining commencing. This will take some time.
As in I need to craft that stuff up.

Possible Vote:
>1 Delete data from V.I. 3 to hide pirate attack, fix station ourselves (Take Cruiser scrap)
>2 Let UGEI fix it and take scrap
>>
>>27340017
We can actually get the ugei to foot the bill and maybe curve any future pirate attacks.
>>
>>27340026
>>27339995
If you have the UGEI repair it, but salvage the parts, they will think someone came by to steal the scrap, but their defenses didn't open fire.
>>
>>27340036

>>
>>27340051
>>27340071
I suggest damaging the guns or taking them to salvage the parts.
>>
>>27340071
Two are destroyed, two are damaged. The scrap provided by the wrecked cruisers isn't valuable enough to risk a UEGI investigation.

Let them handle it. There's more food to be had elsewhere.
>>
>>27339974
yes, hide the attack. if we sent out the report. the UGEI would come out, repair it, then beat the local pirate dens for revenge, and likely to stumble on our small pocket empire. and us.... NOT GOOD!
>>
>>27340085
>>27340051
How about instead of salvaging the cruiser can we search through the wreckage for anything useful?
>>
>>27340036
>1 Delete data from V.I. 3 to hide pirate attack, fix station ourselves (Take Cruiser scrap)

we will lose the scrap we so badly need. AND it helps to HIDE US.
>>
>>27340064
It will be rather easy to manage. Such platforms are reasonably small.

Last decision of the night folks. I'll wait a bit more for consensus.
>>
>>27340110
I'm for soft looting it...if we can find a way to hide the data bloat on VI 3.

We can't physically touch the wrecks, however. Their integrity needs to remain at 100%. The most we can do is pilfer their databanks and copy what we like.
>>
>>27340132
There's no profit to be made doing it ourselves. Anything we recover off the cruisers will be spent repairing the station and the railgun platforms.

Safety and privacy are currently a non-issue.
>>
>>27340042
>>27340085
UEGI are not likely to ignore an attack on their platform. they will send out pirate hunters to prove a point as to NOT FUCK WITH THEM! that and they might just take out the pirate base we want so badly! THINK ANON!
>>
>>27340176
...Right.

They fuck it up. We loot it. Everyone wins. What point are you getting at?
>>
>>27340176

>>27340140
Thanks for the fin program and any ideas if you're gonna be doing the quest tomorrow since its the weekend?
>>
>>27340173
safety is ALWAYS a priority, but this could wind up us losing the pirate base too. also, what if they deside to just take the whole platform away our VI3 with it. what if they noticed we took it over? you need to see all the angles here. the UEGI might not be dumbies here.
>>
>>27340189
taking over the outpost gives us more freedom and bandwidth then taking up the scraps left behind by the UEGI.
>>
>>27340189
>We loot it.
>implying UEGI won't loot pirate base first

Unless we kill everyone, we can't loot shit.
>>
>>27340229
Don't be a condescending, patronizing faggot, anon. That's all I have to say about that.

Safety would be a priority...if we had a reason to fear for our safety. Right now, we don't. This isn't reasonable concern, it's paranoia.

The pirate base was never ours. Stop talking like it was. Who cares what happens to it? You're not entitled to every single macguffin and plot hook in a story.

That's fine if they take the platform and VI 3 away. It was never ours.

I doubt the UEGI will notice any sort of tampering with VI 3. It's a very subtle manipulation of its code. There's no reason to suspect that its integrity has been compromised, as it has been performing up to expectation.
>>
>>27340189
they crub stomp it, they take everything and blast the rest to NOTHING! you don't think these things thought well do you? we clean up this mess, delete data, no one will be the wiser. besides, our posidoen station is surpost to be UGEI as well, what do you think they will do when they find out we are running it?

oh the irony....
hey, get some glasses, you're short sighted.
they whole world will be ours, but the bigger monsters out there can take it away too. we fight too hard to get it just so you throw it away like a beer can out the window of your car onto a cop car!

we are facing others out there that are right now, better than us. we are NOT THAT STRONG! we hide, build up our holding and strength, then face them.
>>
>>27340036
You decide to delete the data from Blue Betty and tell Explorer 1 to begin salvaging. You'll have quite the resource load from this, but will have to replace the defenses at Blue Betty yourself, if you're to maintain your disguise.

Those pirates are becoming more trouble then they're worth, you think. This may be the opportunity you've been waiting for however, as now they might be weakened. This data the ships will provide should hopefully tell you this much or not. Regardless, you set about compiling everything for the coming week.

[And that'll do it for today's thread, folks. Thank you so much for joining me, and I hope you enjoyed. Feedback is always appreciated, and I'll answer questions and such for now until we are run right off the board.]

as to some questions. can we look into seeing if there are any among our crew, or if Moria knows anyone, that would be intrested in working with us? i am sure that later on, we can find those who are flipped out over the Idea of an A.I. doing things. we should also spend some more time with her and give her our view on our relationship with humans in a more detailed way. also, ask her where she learned her skills.

Distance literally doesn't matter. The way the mechanics are set up it's just "Over there," and "right here." It's all completely arbitrary. I wouldn't worry about that. Space is big, dawg, and three dimensional as well.

I don't think the UFW would be happy if a UEGI station started squatting on their turf. We should slow play that for a little bit and see what's up.
>>
>>27340946
The lack of real distances is both because space is super big, and because it's a lot simpler to just go 'oh it's not quite THAT close, but close'.
>>
>>27341026
Yep. It's not exactly a hard sci-fi setting so there's really no reason to track distance in a scope other than "relative to this position."

It's an elegant system.
>>
>>27341026
Thought I better mention this: V.I. 3 was getting insane rolls against the Cruiser.

Normally, those railgun platforms aren't suppose to be that strong.
>>
>>27341374
Yeah, talk about overpeformance. Go go VI 3. Maybe we should name it for its accomplishment.
>>
>>27341596
You're all free to name them at any time.
>>
>>27341614
I feel like they might be genre savvy, though, and naming a VI "Destroyer of Worlds," is only asking for trabble. It's something we'd all need to vote on anyways.

What sort of facilities do we need to have to perform "research"? Can we stare at something long enough and just grok it?
>>
>>27341651
Moira used her factory to gleen information from the Battleship, so eyeballing works to a degree.
If you want more direct research, a proper facility would be nice to have. You could have a real purpose for humans, or, give an V.I. enough intelligence to warrant it conceiving of NEW ideas, as close, possibly even making it an A.I. itself. It'll be one of the future things to spend Bandwidth on.

Or you could just use humans.
>>
>>27341708
Yeah, the whole (re-)education angle seems to be the best way to extract the most value of the organics.

What sort of base line education are they supposed to have, and how hard would it be to create a professor VI to instruct them all?
>>
>>27341756
Humans learn very slowly, and work even slower. So you might argue that, while they are very creative, the time it takes them to work isn't worth it.
But then again, creating an A.I. able to be as creative as humans isn't exactly easy. And even if you did, why must it serve you?

Thus you have options, and 'routes' for you guys to go down.~
>>
>>27341814
Pah! Space Station Thirtee- Poseidon will be the hippest hab in all of sophisticated space! (in three or four generations!)

I realize not much seems to happen per thread, and I apologize for that and the long waits. I like to consider things relatively turn based, so patience is required for much to occur.

I'd rather ensure everyone's voice is heard, and all paths explored however. Besides, you repelled a multi-prong pirate attack! I think that's worthy of a thread.

I am still new to this though, trying to streamline stuff as much as I can.

>I'd love to run more often, but as I said, I burn out rather quickly due to all the math.

Ah, I see.
Well, it is better to not burn yourself out then. Like I said, I rather prefer consistency, if you're planning on running till the end, I don't mind 1 thread per week.
Too bad that I can't participate because it runs at the night for me. Wish I could play along.

>I'd rather ensure everyone's voice is heard, and all paths explored however.
Be careful with this. As the quest goes on and grows bigger it will take more and more time to reach consensus and sometimes it can bring to having 1-2 hour discussion before an update.

I have been considering trying different run times to include other people, but with Summer over, Fridays seem the most popular day to run.

Would Thursday or Saturday be better? I run on Eastern Standard Time, I think (It's 5:17 am for me now)

>>27343808
I've...noticed this a bit already, I admit. That combined with me trying to answer all questions is slowing me down a lot. I should...probably set a deadline.

there's 8 hour difference between EST and my time. No need to try to accommodate me. Sometimes I can stay up way late and participate but lately I don't have that luxury.
So keep running like you always have, so that the usual players can participate much more comfortably.

>I've...noticed this a bit already, I admit. That combined with me trying to answer all questions is slowing me down a lot. I should...probably set a deadline.

Yeah, that happens in many quests. Better to work on this now before it becomes a big problem.
>>
>>27343925
That's an unfortunate time difference then, but I'm glad you enjoy the quest all the same.

What's a deadline many other quests use anyway? I don't follow many others, especially those with crunch behind em.
>>
>>27343959
20 or so minutes max. It is best when there are maximum 20 minutes between the updates.
Some quests take hours and 70%+ of the thread turns into useless banter, or worse, shitflinging and trolling.
>>
>>27344350
I see. I'll see what I can do then, since it usually takes me 20 minutes or so for big updates all by itself.
>>
>>27344369
well, you could give 15 minutes for consensus and then spend another 15 writing. Keep looking at suggestions flowing after you start writing in case of something interesting shows up so that you can quickly add or alter something, especially if everyone missed something very important before the deadline and then someone makes note of it after.

If you can manage of course. If it is too hard, just keep doing what you're doing. I don't see anyone complaining so maybe there's no need to fix something that is not broken.
>>
>>27344430
It's good to prepare for future problems all the same. I'm a slow typer as it is, so it wouldn't hurt me to speed it up some. I won't rush it though, just will try and go a bit faster. Appreciate the advice all the same anon.

Your welcome.

Question: could we take all the cruisers we captured and destroyed and mash them together to make a new powerful battleship. It would be completely designed to be controlled by an AI or VI so a lot of systems and modules wont be necessary, freeing up space for other stuff. It pretty much wouldn't need any halls and rooms, except maybe maintenance tunnels for repair droids and such. Of course, we could add a small living quarters for any humans we want to take for a ride.
The freed up space could go to use for better shields, more weapons, bandwidth, etc or it would just reduce the size of the ship making t more agile and faster.

These pirate cruisers seem to be pretty shitty. We need to use our superior intelligence and all that bandwidth to design better stuff.
>>
>>27344510
Or are several bad cruisers better than one good battleship?
>>
>>27344510
While I certainly encourage personalizing any vessel you come across, especially to take advantage of your lack of needing humans, ship design doesn't really work with just 'throw em together and see what you get'.

I mean, I won't stop you from trying, but without proper schematics to know how larger ships manage their weight distribution, you run the risk of the ship tearing itself apart with it's own weight. Thus the whole 'ship size schematics' and such.

You can modify any size you know about however. Once you have higher level ship sizes, such a thing would be possible.
Also keep in mind Battleships are about as big and bad as most normal ships get, the way I spin them.
>>
>>27344550
So we need to get schematics first before trying building ships?
Can we design them ourself? Download torrent from space-internet? I mean, there ought to be bunch of files of old designs floating around which we could use as a base.

Could we redesign the cruisers we have and refit them to be controlled by AI/VI right now? And if we can, how long would it take to refit them.
We have 3 Cruisers, right? Beefing them up as much as we can before trying to take the pirate stations sound like a good idea.

Oh, could we stuff a buoy into one of the ships so that when we arrive to a new system we have full bandwith available?

>Also keep in mind Battleships are about as big and bad as most normal ships get, the way I spin them.
What are the size classes? From smallest to the biggest.
I thought there would be bigger ships, like capitals and dreadnoughts
>>
>>27344632
You currently have Escort and Freighter vessels available, if I'm not mistaken, but yes, getting the schematics is a good idea.
>Design them yourself
Only if you have a means and method to do so. Think of how humans design things, and how you might do such a thing. You were not build to specialize in research after all.
>Download
There may be such things available, but they're also possible to be scams, or worse, viruses.
Keep in mind, Cruisers are, normally, warship style vessels, and thus under protection from the military. Most smaller things, however, may be more accessible..

>Cruiser redesign to be run by V.I.
Yeah, sure you can. You'd be risking unpredictability with V.I., and the response time compared to just you controlling it would be slower, but it would work.
As for time, all three cruisers may take a while.

You may have found...things on the destroyed Cruisers that might help with that.

Buoy require deployment to function properly, and to be aligned properly with the others. With a moving ship, that is pretty difficult. Bandwidth Support Ships are what you're asking about, which can connect you to your bandwidth hubs through FTL travel.

I'll show you the size classes then. Just the ones I found off wikipedia, really.
>>
>>27344632

Size Class:
Capital Ships(Huge+; Big guns, big shields, big armor): Flagships
Battleship(Large-Huge; Big guns, warship): Dreadnought, Peacekeeper
Carrier(Large; Uses many smaller fighters): Fighter Carrier, Bomber Carrier
Cruiser(Medium sized, multi-use, built for speed and range): Battlecruiser, Light Cruiser
Escort (Small-Medium sized; Built for speed and manuverability): Destroyer, Frigate, Explorer
Transport (Ranging sizes; Civilian, Colony, Military, Economic): Invasion Vessel, Settlement Ship, Cargo Ship, Trade Ship
Fighter (Personal-Small sized; Precision and Speed): Strike Craft, Bomber
Support (Ranging sizes; Assisting other ships): Repair Vessel, Targeting Assistant Ship

>>27344721
I see, thanks.

So we can't just jump into a system and immediately deploy a buoy? Damn that sucks.
Do we have any means right now to increase bandwidth on our ships? I know we can power down some of the systems like life support to get few measly points but I'm talking about a proper upgrade. We could scrap living quarters and replace them with CPU banks for example.
Or do we not have any know-how to build CPU at the moment?
>>
>>27344777
Unfortunately. It's meant to make fighting on your home turf much more effective, and at the same time, encourage a type of 'fleet' mentality.

>Scrap Living Quarters, Hydroponics, etc and such on Cruisers for bandwidth
You most certainly may. I'd love to see people asking stuff like that.
It would, of course, render those ships unable to support humans at all, lacking oxygen and the like.

CPU banks are simply cubes of data and space you can use. It gives you a pool to draw upon to improve processes by using your superior programming to handle automatic things. Basically you're switching out automated systems with your own instructions. The more storage space and processors you have, the more you can process and compile.
>>
>>27344816

I hope next thread people will note this and try to upgrade/refit our ships before going off to battle.
We could still keep small living quarters which could support few dozen of people on our flagship for times we want to have people around.
>>
>>27344852
It depends on what all you take out.
Without hydroponics, there is no oxygen or food. Would you keep some on hand, etc etc.

All very interesting
>>
>>27344863
Well, I mean the systems which are made to support life on cruiser ships are made to house hundreds of people. We could reduce that to 20 or less.
Basically putting life-support of a 'transport' size ship in our Cruiser. That way they would take up very little space, and the humans could only walk around a very limited space of the whole ship (like maybe 1/1000th of the ship). The rest of the ship wouldn't even have hallways for them to move around. It would be like having a self-sustaining comfy apartment in a huge (relative to that apartment) ship.
This way we can increase our bandwidth or other stats while still being able to have few people aboard without sacrificing too much efficiency.
>>
>>27344911
>Flying comfy apartments
This amuses me. I look forward to what people end up doing.
>>
>>27344911

I'm bringing this up because I know how /tg/ operates. They will latch on to interesting characters and will want to take them with them all around.
You might not know this and did it accidentally but it was a very good idea to give some life to the NPCs and VIs. That small banter between the pirates when they were boarding the station was great. The little snippets of life on the station are always interesting and introducing Moira.
Why do you think people still keep talking about Red? He was the only character for a while to have an actual characterization and was the only one to not be a faceless crew member. That's why people wanted to keep him around and try to convince him to join us.
/tg/ quest players really like characters.
>>
>>27344954
The V.I.s I did intend to give more character, actually, and wanted a human character to help off set that. Figured I couldn't go wrong with Moira.

Glad all the pirate talk landed well. I usually put more work into my dialogue but I am trying to be quick at the same time. Was surprised at the people who still want Red to join them. Not sure what I want to do with him yet, since anons seem undecided.
>>
>>27344985
Personally, I think Red is a nuisance which we should just keep in the brig forever and forget about him.
Unless we can convince him to work for us but I'm sure that will cost too much for us right now. Also, I'm not sure he has good enough skills that we would want him that much. How good of a technician is he anyway? Would having him work for us improve anything like Moira does?
We could come back to him when we have more assets and money.
>>
>>27345069
You're not fully aware of all his skills. You do know he has an obscure past with the military and being a technician of some sort. He did attempt to hack yo back when you took over, so he knows a bit about stuff like that.
