Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You are on Xile, the ancient kingdom of Aeolus surrounded by the core of the world-spanning Skysever spell.

You have defeated Lucifer and recovered the staff of winds.

It was a fake. Abigail lost her left hand for a fake staff.

You've learned more since discovering the true nature of the staff. A woman named Melody - apparently a powerful shadow mage - intentionally beat Fang to the staff. She took it and replaced it with her fake, taunting the archmage that if he wanted the staff, he'd have to take it from her.

You attempted to access the control tower above the center of the island, but an enclave of dangerous natives lies between you and your destination. As only Flint was with you at the time, you decided to leave it undistrubed.

In a stroke of good fortune, you found an airship that appears to contain a functional wind dynamo - the Cirrus. The Black Hand laid a trap on the inside of the entrance ship long ago, stopping it from leaving port. While Auriel attempted to dismantle it, however, the dark prescence lingering at the center of the island circumvented its home to approach you. Unwilling to push your luck, you decided to retreat to the treasure room, leaving the project for the daytime, when the darkness is weaker.

Before you slipped through your portal, the shadow nearly reached you. Briefly, you felt its aura resonate with shards of the Moonsong within your pouch, making you suspect that it may, in fact, be the final piece of the sword that you are seeking.

You spend the night in meditation. When you awaken, it is several hours after sunrise. Your companions are eating a meal of more rabbit and berries. Not much for variety on Xile, but at least there's plenty to go around.

You decide to explore Melody's small haven once more. You make your way through the underbelly of the island, quietly avoiding the strange aberrations of shadow that call the tunnels their home. They pay you no attention. You can't sense the dark prescence...the shard-creature.

At the end of the dark passages is Melody's silent room, undisturbed. You decide to investigate the ladder at the end of her hall. You ascend it swiftly, hand over tentacle over arm, flowing up over the bars more than climbing.

A small trap door lies at its top. It takes a bit of effort, but you shove it open, flipping a boulder that had been moved over it to the side.

You're in a ruined building. And you recognize it immediately - the crumbling structure where Abigail was cornered by the wind mages, not long after her arrival. And the boulder blocking the trap door wasn't a boulder at all, but a chunk of the roof - and why you didn't notice the door in the first place.

Though it's morning, the light seems dim. You glance up into the sky.

Through the handful of days you've been on Xile, the skies have been sunny, blue, and clear, only dotted by clouds at times. Now, they're now darkened by a heavy, overcast grey. A deep rumble of thunder rolls through the barrier, heralding an oncoming storm.

What do you do now?

>return to the treasure room, plot your escape
>seek the dark prescence; you have to complete the sword
>explore the other end of the steel catwalk under the island, past the Cirrus's loading area
>explore the city docks

>>
>>27403413
The antiwaifu guys started it around the time we had Xella in the party. Almost immediately, the namefag Scruffy was the main target of the knob chewing accusations, and a picture of Scruffy from Futurama chewing on a doorknob was produced. This makes me suspect that it was Snapple trolling because he went into BFQ around the time it started and talked about how much fun he found messing with Scruffy. Also, he draws things for quests sometimes, so the picture fits too. He also loves to try to force memes and shit, and it looks like he's gone and succeeded with doorknob chewing becoming a thing. At least in Shadow Quest.

Now I feel dirty for knowing this useless shit.

>>
>>27403515
>I thought he said it was just magic stuff happening in the giant rock.
What does that have to do with getting a prosthetic from robots?

I'm convinced you just have a corruption fetish at this point. "You can fix her hand but she'll turn eeeeeeevil" isn't a delicious consequence, it's bullshit. Having to deal with the fucking plague that is 002 in order to acquire Steward's help for a prosthetic sounds much more likely and reasonable.
>>
>>27403571
Which, even then, wouldn't slow you down much if they are using shit that can tunnel through solid bedrock I would guess.
>>
Can I get some elaboration on the mechanics of Teleportation?
Is our anchor permanently attached to Xile, or can we move it later?
>>
You think on your next destination, then decide that you want to know where that steel-adamantium catwalk leads. It seemed to be headed in the direction of the city, if you've got your orientation between the tunnels and the topside of the island right.

Again, the creatures and monsters in the foggy dark ignore you. You slip around corners and tiptoe past forgotten wood doors. You sense nothing of interest as you pass the networks of rooms and hallways, anyway. They've probably long since erased any magic down here that they could reach.

The swirling core of wind at the center of the tunnels defies your reasoning, but then, the core of the skysever was probably too much for them.

You reach the giant adamantium doors that lead to the catwalk, and ink your way under them, slowly feeding yourself through. After a minute, you're on the other side. Dark clouds swirl in the barrier that waits below the long walk.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgnR3n4xous

Immediately, you sense the dark presence, still lingering near the airship. It is somewhat lessened in intensity, but strong nonetheless.

It begins moving toward you.

This time, it waited for you to return to something it realized you were interested in. It is somewhat intelligent, then.

Thunder rumbles in the sky below you. Strong gusts sweep the steel catwalk. A storm is brewing...

What do you do?

>no more games - confront the creature
>open a portal to the treasure room, gain the support of your allies before the battle
>attempt to STEALTH past the creature
>retreat back through the door
>some other strategy
>>
>>27403590

>Silence - Normal

You slip up a large latticed steel beam and hide in the shadows above the walkway.

Silence answers your call. You don't so much as draw the shadows about you as you vanish into the shadows.

The other darkness draws near. It is humanoid in shape; power rolls of its skin. It isn't good at concealing itself, that's for sure.

It walks beneath you, but doesn't seem to notice you. It's gaze turns left, right, forward. It examines the door closely.

It turns around and begins to walk away. It's just under you, with its back to you.

You have the initiative.

What do you do?

You leap down from the crossbeam. Silence's power shields you on the way down. It shatters when you make contact, but it was enough to guarantee you your first hit.

The monster didn't even start to turn. You poured all your limbs into one giant arm, coming on on its head with a fist-shaped hammer. The creature is blown to the deck, slamming into the ground face-first so hard it dents the adamantium catwalk.

It starts to rise - which provides you with the perfect opportunity to grab it by the neck. It's heavy - but not by your standards. You hoist it into the air, spin, and strike it full-body against a nearby adamantium support beam. And then you snap it back the other way, smashing it again, and then again, as if you're you're beating a dustrag clean.

You hear cracks and crunches as you attack, but only distantly. Yours is a simple world. There is an enemy, and there is something to hit him against. Black and white.

The monster is still struggling violently - it gets a claw around and grips your arm - and then you let it go. The claw slips free, and it flies up into the air, slapping against the rocky underside of the island. It begins to fall.

It doesn't reach the ground before the skysever attacks it. Teal-grey winds rip into its flesh. You hear screams - from two sources. Faces in the monster's flesh ripple and churn against the biting air. It seems as though they're creating some sort of defensive barrier to negate the wind's damage.

But today, apparently, isn't a normal day. Something's different about the wind - darker. More vicious. It continues its assault, and it tosses the creature up again. The rippling faces slow, and then stop altogether. Chunks of flesh that get ripped off, stay ripped off.

>con't
>>
>>27404840
>Hydra - Your body endlessly regrows by drawing upon the shadows. While in dark areas, damage from slashes and cutting attacks will automatically heal next turn. You must survive the attack; damage great enough to kill you outright will still do so. You can still be bashed, stunned, thrown, etc; does not help against other types of attacks.
>>
>>27404823
>light tree
Why do people still believe this exists?

We also already got the Magic Power from Summon Tree too. I'd like to buy the stuff from the summon tree we need to finish off the other trees though.
>>
The creature lands on the deck, missing an arm and with half its torso chew off. It gets to its feet just as you reach it. Despite the damage it's taken, it manages to begin a counterattack, exchanging blows with you. You claw it; it rakes you back. You slice deeper into its wound, and it digs at the offending arm, hacking off part of your shadow.

Some sort of magic glows in its palm. It raises a hand, no doubt intending to use the spell - but your fist reaches it first. You slam into it so head its head comes clean off, flying into the abyss, where it is rapidly chewed up by the churning wind. The body is sent tumbling back from the force. The catwalk clanks and shudders as it takes the weight of the blast.

The body, headless, gets to its feet. And though it has no mouth, it screams anyway - though the screams are not quite as strong as they were.

Something grabs your attention - justting out from the center of the creature, where its wounds are deepest, is a thin black object.

The shards of the sword in your pouch waver and resonate.

>you've taken 7 damage (74/81)

The creature is starting up that spell again. Its remaining hand glows black - darker than that, even, sucking in the light around it in a void-like vortex. It raises the hand like a knife.

What do you do?

You ready your magic and fire a nightblaze at the creature, targeting its hands directly. The churning darkness roils toward it like an arrow shrouded in mist. The mist itself discolors the air as it passes, as if sucking the light right out of it.

The creature raises its hand - but the nightblaze is about to make contact. You blink behind it with exact timing, prepared to consume your weakened foe as soon as its spell is dealt with.

The nightblaze strikes directly into its hand, just after your arrival...!

The arrow of darkness shatters to pieces. The creature's glowing hand is intact and unchanged.

You're too committed now. You lunge forward. The creature swings its arm down at your new position. Black streaks on its hand flare up like dark lanterns.

The hand comes down. A black beam of concentrated death slices through the air in a half-circle.

You barely get your body out of the way.

The beam hurtles past you, whistling through the air. It slices through the catwalk like butter. A steel beam groans as it's hacked away. It falls - and vanishes into the skysever. The walk creaks ominously, but there is still plenty of support left.

You slam the creature into the ground, you hands on the sword hilt buried in its chest. It shrieks at you. Its hand is still glowing bright.

You drive claws into the creature's midsection, prying the hilt free from its flesh.

The hand slices down.

About a forth of your body is annihilated in the half-circle blast of darkness. The black beam continues up into the island, passing through the rock and the steel, gouging a canyon in the rock that widens and lengthens as it goes. Dust and rubble pours onto your shoulders.

>you've taken 14 damage (60/81)

But you have the advantage, and the leverage. You drive spikes of shadow into the monster, pinning it to the walkway, and you heave.

The hilt comes free.

EEEEEEYYYYYAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

A thousand voices cry out in terrible pain. You see ghosts, souls, rise up from the monster, vanish into the air. A torrent of darkness steams out of its flesh. And it shrinks, and shrivels, and a moment later, it's gone.

A gust blows across the catwalk. The power of the hilt thrums in your hands. The shards below resonate more fiercely than you've ever felt, practically shaking your satchel with the aura alone. You open the pouch.

The shards fly up, forming themselves into the blade above the hilt. The violet crystal hovers above the hilt, then screws itself into a gap on the pommel. Black power radiates out from the sword in a wave, sweeping up the dust around you.

A voice speaks to you, sharp, hard. <Has the time of reunion come at last?>

You're stunned. You speak with your own voice. <...who are you?>

The sword hums deeply. <I am Blade, entrusted to your servant, now returned to the master. Is my power to be used for the Directive once again?>

<...what do you know of the Directive?>

<I know only that it is our purpose,> the sword says. <Long have I labored under the chaos rats, my pieces pitted against others of their kind in pointless endeavors. I am glad to meet with ourselves once again.>

>con't
>>
<What can you tell me about David? Why were your pieces separated?>

<David? Under his control...hmm. I remember little; the breaking damaged me. I remember that you took my broken form and cast him into the nether. There was no time to repair me before the last stage of your plan. I was given to the Black Hand for safekeeping while you were away...some parts were stored secretly, as you requested, but others sought to use me for their own ends. And hence, I was scattered.>

<What plan? What was I going to do?>

<Destroy the elemental lords,> the sword says. <I assume we were successful.>

<...I think we were.> You quickly put the pieces together. The Moonsong isn't just a sword you made - it's literally a part of you, one of your shards. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to remember too many specifics.

<I see,> the sword says. <Good work.>

<What is the true path, exactly?> you ask, trying to get a straight answer. <What was our mission?>

The sword seems contemplative. <...the destruction of chaos, and the restoration of order,> it says eventually. <I do not plan. I only serve to cut. Let us merge, and walk the true path once more.>

Merge. Perhaps, then, you can take the shard into yourself like the others, now that it's repaired?

Well...almost. You can sense a dissonance in the weapon. The pieces are locked together, but they aren't bonded tight. That would probably happen if you took it into yourself.

What do you do?

>merge with the Moonsong

You grip the sword.

<The directive...is changing,> you say firmly.

Humanity answers your call. White flames emerge from your hand and lick up the hilt of the sword, and then onto the blade, wrapping it in a blinding fire.

<You've crossed a certain line,> Temerity says. You feel his voice deep within you. <Until we return to the mission, I refuse your command. Or perhaps you'll sick your little candle onto me and destroy me for challenging you? Hmph.>

Temerity's presence fades.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApgASf6d7Do

The sword begins to change. Humanity seeps into the cracks between the pieces of the blade. White lines seal the cracks, flashing as bright mortar for bricks of darkness.

The sword begins to change.

The hilt grows, lengthens. Lengthens. And the blade flattens, condenses. It folds up into a ball, which then morphs into a square. When the process is finished, in your hands is a what appears to be a tremendous hammer. It flares with darkness...and Humanity.

For a moment, you think what a weapon it could make for an ally - but you cannot remove your hand from the handle. It slides into you, past your ability to stop, as if locked into some socket that sits inside your body. And then it's gone.

>Hammer - Normal
>you gain 40 experience

>Artifact - You may enchant any single object into a magical artifact of legendary power. This power can only be used three times. (10 EXP)

Thinking quickly, you sprint down toward the airship. You've got to save the Cirrus - it might be your only way off this rock.

By the time you reach the wide loading area, the walkway has titled so much that the skeletons left behind from the battle are sliding off and into the abyss. You grab a thick adamantium pylon, then stretch yourself up, up. You dig into the stone and pull, hard.

The walkway stops groaning - but the titling continues. You head a ugly crack echo from the rock above you, as if the land itself is coming apart.

You glance up, and realize that the land itself IS coming apart. The creature's strike with the sword sliced off the corner of the island the walkway hangs off of, and it's starting to split off!

You forge a portal to the treasure room. <Everyone! I beat that creature, but the walkway is damaged! We have to save the airship!>

You party barrels through the teleport gateway in an instant. Auriel glances up at your stretched body as she sprints toward the airship. "What are you doing?"

<Keeping the walkway from snapping in half!>

"What about the trap in the entrance?!"

<It's still there!>

"Then...shit." Auriel faces the entrance of the airship with a grim look on her face. No one has any immediate suggestions.

The hunk of island coming apart from the mainland shifts above you. Rock and dirt is pouring down everywhere. The thunder of the storm rumbles up from below, as if it's laughing at you.

What do you do?

>keep on keeping on
>abandon your position, sprint into the airship and take the hit

Wait a minute i just had an idea. While we can't blink with people we can do it with objects...

WE TAKE THE SHIP FOR A RIDE BOYS!
Yes it's stupid as fuck
>>
>>27407510
Well if the island part holding the catwalk is falling off, presumably we do not want to fall off with it.
>>
>>27407523
I don't think we have enough mana for that.
>>
>>27407510
Yeah. That storm is a problem and since we were pretty much know that the ship is going to take a beating from the Sky Sever without Moonsong's help I doubt we'll be able to just fly through it without burning up our new Hammer shard or artifacting the ship.
>>
>>27407523
If there was a place we knew was safe within blink range, I'd total vote for it. But I like the anchor-blink idea a lot.
>>
>>27407448
I kinda want to pick up Spirit Lash, just to see the last two options on that end of the Spirit Tree. But we're never going to use it.
Sleep Gas wouldn't be a terrible spell to have for infiltration, though this far into the game I'm not sure how much use we'd get out of it.
Monstrous Vigor sounds kinda meh for it price, but it would come in handy against the upcoming Demon Lord of Not-Nurgle. Hydra has been on the back of my mind for a while, I'd like to work towards it. We are an amorphous beat-stick, after all.
If I'd been here from thread 1, I totally would have pushed for Magic Shadow. The low mana we began with discouraged it, though.
>>
>>27407571
Not to mention that our experience with the fight against the Kelverians in Jacob's Field kicked the ever living shit out of us so hard that it caused us to make Shadow more tanky from that point on.

I play Animal Crossing while people are debating.

I think I can squeeze in one last post here. So what's the plan?

10 minute vote for teh lulz

Vote 1:

Vote 2:

The fishing in Animal Crossing is so simple, but so addictive. It's probably because the cold hard bells resulting from those efforts fuels my escapades as First Citizen of the Great Nation-State of Caedonia.

But that's only if we keep the portal anchor there at all time.

How will we bypass the Sky Sever to get back to Xile to study it's engine and get our left behind loot?

It was really addicting in Breath of Fire 4

If the airship stays intact in our flight from the island, presumably we'd be using it to get back to Xile.

We also don't exactly know how the portal anchors work; we haven't been able to test whether the anchor works off of RAW or RAI. If we set anchor inside the ship and the ship leaves, will the anchor stay at the point we placed it in the ship, or will it anchor to the spatial coordinates in Xile where the Airship USED to be?

If the latter, we still have an anchor in Xile. If the former, we could leave the portals open until we get off the island and use it to return to Xile immediately after we land safely back on Venia proper.
>>
>>27409369
The anchor is going to be in the middle of the air here, I would think. Not attached to the ship.

Actually, could you tell us, SM? Is the anchor going to be attached to the ship itself, or the space in the air where we use it?

A real shame we never found a mana pool on Xile.

We /could/ make one and then just Teleport away somewhere else and bring our allies through the portal.

Thing is, the airship is likely to take damage from the Sky Sever just like the last Xilean one we had did. That's why we needed to still get the Moonsong. We'll need to artifact it or do something else to really rely on it to get us to Xile and back.
>>
>>27409493
>anchors are attached to points in space, not any particular object
Fantastic. Then we can get back to Xile. We'll just have to be sure to IMMEDIATELY Blink to a wall of some ground or something so as to not get instafucked by the sky sever.
>>
Just a thought here

Flint has been with us for a long time and has never wavered. Didn't one of his enchanted items get destroyed? I vaguely remember. Maybe his chest plate?

We should enchant something for him.
>>
So, Blade was the Moonsong.

What call Hammer? I think something about judgement / justice / balance would be appropriate.

I also really want to see what this thing can do.
>>
>>27409548
Yeah, his plate got wrecked a while ago.

But we found him a new adamantium one in a shipwreck and gave the others to the higher ranking people at Haven.
>>
>>27409551
Hammer is appropriate, no?

We should talk to him.
>>
>>27409548
We only get 3 uses out of artifact so I say we be careful with what we use it on. Airship I kind of like because it has a lot more uses and versatility than just a weapon or piece of armor.

I'd rather pick something that can be used by more than one person or isn't just a tool of war.

We could enchant a codpeice for Joey
>>
If whatever comes after Mind Crush only costs 10, we can unlock Void Walker. Which means Blink recharges 5 times faster.

But then there's also the path to Hydra.

And Eclipse is mighty temptin'

And there's also Artifacts. Legendary Adamantium Claw "The Night Hook" for Abby.

And we did promise Ila a Servanting and a Shadow Manapool in Haven...

TOO MANY OPTIONS!
>>
>>27409585
I never actually considered being able to enchant an entire airship. How big can we go? Can we enchant a castle we build at Haven?

Hmmmm
>>
We should enchant the moon and use it to block out the sun so we don't have to get that true darkness ability or whatever.

>TOO MANY OPTIONS!

That's been the story since the very beginning.

I want to save for the mana pool/servanting and artifacting the airship but that's 32 exp. I know I'll only get to see one of those happen any time soon. I'm going for the airship since it will probably keep us from getting it destroyed like all the others.
>>
>>27409671
We could enchant some rainbows and bring eternal, colorful order to the entire planet
>>
>>27409685
>I'm going for the airship since it will probably keep us from getting it destroyed like all the others.
We don't know how long it takes to make something into an Artifact, though. Being instantaneous seems a little too good to be true.
>>
>>27409640
Servanting Ila is priority, promise is a promise.
>>
>>27409716
Well, then I'd like an estimate on how long it'll take because I'd rather not fly this thing through a Sky-Sever storm without some kind of upgrade to keep it from blowing up like every other ship we stepped foot on.
>>
>>27409723
Well, that only costs 7. And we can use the pool in Tarun Gakth or whatever orcland is called.

Then that's still a nice chunk for wherever else we want to dump our tasty tasty XP.
>>
>>27409591
I fucking like it.
>>
>>27409747
Well, this one doesn't have the 2nd strongest angel, a dynamo-powered deathbot, and the reincarnation of Erebus fighting on top of it.

So there's that.
>>
>>27409771
It was still the Sky-Sever that did it in and Vonnegut and others pointed out that this thing's size will make it even easier to tear it apart. Plus, the Sky-Sever is a lot stronger right now due to the storm.
>>
>>27409677
I miss Ren and Stimpy
