Stumbling along the street, your hand reaches up tries in vain rub away the weariness from your eyes. Why are you so tired? It was mere minutes ago that you left your apartment. As your lids try once more to force themselves closed, your fight join the rebellion and you stumble. With a jarring pain, you knees slam into the pavement and you crumple to the floor. Rolling onto your side with the last once of your strength, you start at the hand attached to your arm. One would've thought that it must yours, as it is on the end of your arm. Even in your strangely fatigued state, however, you know that your hand never glowed like that. As your eyes finally crash shut, you see the glow begin to suffuse the rest of your body. Maybe it will have gone when you wake up...

As your eyes open once more, you see that the glowing light has indeed gone. You are sure of this. You are less sure if you are looking down at your body. Although the details are a little blurry, you are sure your skin wasn't so perfectly white and smooth. Nor were your muscles so defined and sculpted. In fact, even the ground seems further away. Quite apart form the drastic changes in your body, there seems to have been one in your attire as well. When you fell, you had been wearing your normal work clothes. Not a toga that shone with an almost divine light.

On the pavement, which seems to have a new vibrancy in you sight, there are several objects. You feel something strange, like a sixth sense tingling at the base of your neck. These are powerful artefacts, and you have to choose one. First there is a hourglass in which the sands stand still. Next there is a set of scales, perfectly balanced. Then there is a feather, which floats a few inches from the ground. Finally, there is a small flame that seems to burn independent of any source.

Choose:
>Hourglass (Soph)
>Scales (El)
>Feather (Aur)
>Flame (Jin)

With tentative fingers, you reach down from your new height and grasp the hourglass. It’s cool beneath your fingers, and the sand in it suddenly starts to flow. Curiously, it denies gravity and continues to flow in the same direction, no matter which way you turn it. Glancing down again, you are not altogether surprised to see that the other items have vanished. You are somewhat more surprised to see that you new body has changed again. Where before your skin was pale white, now it resembles polished black marble. Your toga is an inky black, rimmed with glinting gold. You bring one hand up to your face and clench the perfect fingers in front of your eyes. They feel strong and look indestructible, as does the rest of your body. You know that this should be strange to you, that you should start telling yourself that it’s a dream or a fantasy. Yet somehow, you equally know that this is real, perhaps more real than anything that has ever happened to you before.

You struggle to think back, to recall why you are here. Blurry images, sounds, names and recollections swim through your mind. Yet they seem distant and unimportant, like your new status has shoved them aside. A part of you yearns to test your new body, but you feel that knowing who you were – are – is important.

You remember some things. Bodies, a lot of bodies. Were you a killer? The thought doesn’t strike you with the horror you feel it should. Somehow, you know that you would only have killed those whose time had come. But no, now it becomes clear. You were an undertaker, laying out the bodies of man, woman and child ready for their loved ones to bid them farewell. And your name was Jonathan. Hard as you try, you remember no significant other, no wife or lover. And this city is called Detroit. You moved here some years ago, and started funeral directory. Where you lived before that is too blurry to recall, but some details slip through. Grass, trees and fields. Somewhere far from the city, not that that is much of a clue.

As a gust of wind blows hard across the street, you feel it blow across a part of your body you have no memory of. Looking over your shoulder, you see a huge wing of midnight feathers. A series of blinking eyes regard you. Although they seem to be connected to your body, the eyes ignore your attempts to open and shut them, let alone to see through them. The wings are a different story. Now that you know they’re there, you can feel their weight and heft, as well as the muscle just waiting to be used. A glance at you arms and chest displays rippling muscles that any Greek god would be proud to own. So many new gifts, so little time. As you look at the hour glass that still sits in your hand, you see that the grains are still hissing through it. There seems to be no chance of it being filled, nor of the sand stopping.

The street before you is empty, which at first seems surprising. Then you remember that it’s the end of the autumn and extremely cold. When you think about it, you realise that you can feel the biting wind and icy air, it just doesn’t seem to bother you. Looking to your left, you see a car with invitingly reflective windows. You stride over to it, enjoying the increased step this body has. You look at the reflection of yourself and like what you see. An enchantingly romantic looking figure, with chiselled muscles, huge wings and a face that seems set in a permanent expression of melancholy. Ringlets of black hair fall over the black brow and there is a carefree, rumpled look to the toga. All in all, you make this look good.

The prospect of trying out these new wings is too enticing to resist, and you flap them experimentally. A powerful rush of air blows the dust and trash up into the air around you in answer to the movement. Without further ado, you kick off into the sky and begin to beat your wings hard. With barely any effort, you shoot upwards like an arrow. The wind rushes by your face with a roar, but you can feel that your hair has stayed in the same position as before. Looking down, you see the sprawl of the city below you. A few blocks north, you know your home is still waiting for you. A few to the south, the funeral directory awaits. Above you, the sky stretches on forever and ever.

Grinning, you work your wings harder and faster. You soar straight up towards the mountains of white cloud that line the sky, relishing the feeling of weightlessness. And you dart upwards, punching through the lair of vapour. Beads of water cling to your muscles as you level out above the clouds. It occurs to you that the rushing winds in your ears are blocking out all sounds that might possibly be up here. It occurs to you only moments before you realise that you might not be alone up here. Flicking a glance behind your back, you notice the plane that’s speeding towards you.

The winds, which before seemed unable to even ruffle your hair, now seem to be pushing you one way then the next. The sound of the engines is finally noticeable over the winds and you can see the terrified look in the pilot’s eyes. If comes closer and closer, and you feel yourself locked up in fear. As you struggle to move, the pilot is frantically screaming into the microphone attached to his dashboard. His lips are red and there is spittle spraying from his mouth, as he calls for help or maybe for you to move. Strange, the little details that come to a person in such a situation.

Suddenly, you move. With an instinctual twitch, you let yourself drop down like a stone. Your head is now point at the ground, as you look up past your feet. The plane rushes past, missing by a few dozen metres. It seems as though it’s heading down though, which it wasn’t doing before. Now the nose seems to have angled straight for the ground, far below. As it plunges down through the cloud bank with reckless abandon, it becomes clear this is no controlled descent. For whatever reason, it is going into a nose dive straight for the floor. Then you feel something. You know, without a shadow of doubt, that someone in the plane has just died. It is as clear as the wings on your back. And it seems likely that the plane is falling because of it. Maybe the screaming, red lipped pilot had a heart attack? It’s not important. What’s important is the plane plummeting towards Detroit, quite possibly because of you.

It is easy, now that you seem to have regained control of your muscles, to fly down alongside the plane. Through the window you can see people panicking, though most are held in place by their safety belts. Some people are in free fall, almost floating inside the plane. The woman whose window you are looking through has her eyes shut, her hands clasped in prayer and is muttering into the air. Perhaps her prayers have been answered.

>How do you want to save the plane? Limited to strength and flight, for now.

Moving over to the wing, you reach out and grab it. Instead of passively holding pace with the plane, now you beat your wings to rise upwards. Instead of the whole plane coming to an abrupt halt, a chunk of the wing comes away in your hands. The rest of the plane is sent into a spin by the jerking effect of your grasping, so that now it looks more like it’s corkscrewing down and picking up even more speed. Undeterred, you zoom down to the nose of the plane. Placing both hands on the tip of the front, you once again beat your wings upwards. The tip of the plane crumples like a paper cup, pushing against you to flatten into the rest of the plane. You feel several more deaths, all from the plane. You also see that the plane is starting to come apart and sending debris spinning out into the air. Shards of metal, several metres long, slice out into space above the city, before resuming their journey downwards. The problem seems only to have gotten worse.

Is anyone here?
>>
>>27436451
Yo. Just waiting on OP to figure out a situation spectacular enough for this failure.
>>
Something tells you that you can fix this. That all you have to do is concentrate. You are hovering, keeping pace with the plane and starting into the window. Inside, people are shrieking even more, too busy staring and gesticulating at the crushed cabin to notice the angel at the window. You close your eyes to them and begin to concentrate on your other senses. Somehow, you can sense the deaths of the people inside. If you try hard, you can bring up an image of the person who died. But it’s the living you are worried about, so you try to concentrate on those who are still alive. A sense of power starts to build, faster and faster, deep inside your chest. You feel it rise and rise, before burning behind your eyes. With a sigh of relief, you open your eyes and release the power. A flash of light leaves passes across your vision and through the plastic glass of the window. As it washes over the humans inside, they become still. You sense some of them die, while others simply seem to stop moving. Then it becomes hard to see at all, as the lights inside the plane die simultaneously.

Everything you have tried has made things worse. You are used to death, but not to causing it. You know this should be a horrifying experience, and that you should be trying to claw your own eyes out for what you’ve just done. Instead, you feel intrigued by this ability to cause death. Perhaps you have more powers? As that thought arrives in your mind, you realise that this plane has completely distracted you from your new body. You feel almost blasé about flying already, and what you just did seems like nothing compared to what you can obviously do with your hands. Maybe a little trip outside the city is in order, to discover what you can do.

>The plane hasn't hit the ground, it will in seconds. You could try saving it again, though most of the people in the plane are dead.
>You could leave the city and try to find out more about your abilities.

With a final roar of effort, you slam your obsidian bulk into the side of the plane. Those inside are clearly beyond help, but perhaps you can save the countless lives that will be lost if the air craft crashes into the city. Considering your contribution so far, you have to at least try. As you push against the plane, you feel the metal bend slightly as it gives way. You will it to hold, desperately praying to whatever god might be out there that it doesn’t shatter and leave you flying through with a small piece of the plane in your hands. It seems like someone heard you, as the plane starts to yield to you and be pushed. You pick up speed quickly and you finally feel the flush of success. You look into the window of the plane and try to make out the details of those inside. The people that you can see are dead, thanks to the strange light that you created. Then you see something through the opposite window, something coming up fast. It almost looks like a ruined plane. Then it hits you, figuratively speaking. It’s your reflection in the side of a skyscraper. Then you hit it, literally speaking.

The plane impacts against the building with an ear drum shattering cacophony, followed shortly by a colossal explosion. Half the build is torn clean off, shattering like a sand castle hit by a rock. Flames billow out and white hot lumps of metal and glass shower down towards the ground. People below at least have time to scream before the debris hits them. Those inside the building had no such luxury. From the middle of the inferno, you shoot out like a cannon ball. The pain is unimaginable, and burning jet fuel clings your skin and hair. As you plummet downwards, you realise this isn’t the only tall building around. Your back smashes from the glass of another skyscraper, and you go through several floors before bouncing once and crashing to a halt. As you lie amongst shattered desks, smoking rubble and half a dozen bodies, you begin to wonder why exactly you were given these powers in the first place.

Flames still flicker on your chest, and probably would have done for some time. Except someone aimed a fire extinguisher at your prone form and doused you with white material. Under its smothering influence, the flames die out and you feel the heat around you begin to dissipate. For some time, you simply lie in the evidence of your failure and contemplate what would happen if you simply refuse to move any more. Eventually, you decide that sulking isn’t helping anyone. You briefly consider trying to join in with the rescue crews that are doubtless arriving, but decide against it. Instead, you sit up and brush some of the shattered concrete and mangled humans off your chest. You also try to see who it was that put out your fire.

You see a tall, terrified woman in a business suit. She still has the red fire extinguisher in her hands, but looks like she’s holding between her and you as some form of shield. As you rise to your feet, she lets out a scared squeak and starts to back away. You know what you must look like and are frankly impressed that she was brave enough to try and put the fire out in the first place. You stride past her to the side of the building and look out at your handiwork. It is eerily reminiscent of the twin towers, after the crashes. The top half of one of the skylines most prominent building has been removed and deposited on the streets below. Smoke is pouring of the top of the building and out into the air. It must be impossible to miss from anywhere in the city. You run a hand through your hair and find it impossible to miss the lump of dusty flesh that drops out. Nice going Jonathan old boy, you think yourself.

From behind you, someone clears their throat. “Excuse me, mister angel, but you seem to be bleeding light” says a voice. You turn around to see the woman, with a far less scared look, pointing at your leg. Looking down, you see that it’s true. Your leg has cracked, like an aged marble statue, and a sort of fog made of light was issuing from the flaw.

Huh, that’s not something you see every day, and I should thank her for the whole fire extinguisher thing, you think. Wait, no, that’s not very angelic. Let’s try and be a little biblical. I remember some of Shakespeare from school.

“Fear not mortal, I mean you no harm! You should probably evacuate the building. Errrh, I meanest to say, thou shouldeth evacuteth the building... eth” You try to strike a pose that might be associated with a great and powerful angel, rather than someone who just played lumberjack with a plane and a building. Instead of looking awed, she raises one eyebrow.

“How about no? You’re about as much of an angel as I am, and I once threatened to throw someone out of a window for drinking the last of the coffee. Angels are supposed to be perfect and heavenly, not covered in bits of people and chunks of the building they destroyed” Boldly stepping forward, she reaches out to touch the substance leaking from your leg.

In that order? Sounds good to me.

A bit over the top, maybe? Avoiding being like new Dante wouldn't hurt either.

With a jerk, you talk a rapid step back. For all you know, your ‘blood’ is radioactive and poisonous. You might be endangering her already and you don’t need to add any more people to today’s death toll. You wave your hands in front of yourself and hiss “No, no, bad idea. I’m not sure what that stuff does. It’s sort of my first day as an angel, and it hasn’t been a terribly smooth ride. And wait a second, how many angels have you seen anyway!? Fuck you with your ‘You’re not perfect’ crap!” As you angrily gesture with your hand, you accidentally punch through some sort of concrete support column. For a moment, you expect the ceiling to give way on top of you. It seems as though your luck might be changing, as nothing of the sort happens. Yet.

She steps back as well, with a grin. “Touchy are we? Yeah, I can believe it’s your first day. You’re as jumpy as an intern, and I’ve made interns wet themselves” Her grin fades away as she looks over your shoulder at the ruined building and then back to you. Her mouth now gapes open and one finger points at you. She manages to speak after a few shocked moments. “Was that you? Did you do that?”

We should leave and collect our thoughts. We don't owe her any explanation for our acts of mass manslaughter and have no reason to believe that we might benefit from a conversation with her. What kind of weirdo talks to people, anyways?
>>
>>27438509
"not really. i tried to prevent it from happening, but it couldnt be worse than this, so if anything i made it worse"
>>
>>27438509

>Respond. Specify.

I failed to prevent that, yeah.
>>
>>27438509
>>Respond. Specify.
not directly my fault, but i tried to stop it.

Was flying. Pilot saw me and had a heart attack. Tried to save the plane. Superman physics don't work. No matter what part you grab of the plane the weight just tears it apart.
>>
>>27438509
Kill her before she tells someone

As far as we know this damage could be permanent, lets try and cover it up with her soul or something
>>
>>27438544
>>27438554
>>27438557
>>27438588
So you want to tell her the truth, roughly?

>>27438593
Interesting approach.

>>27438539
One for leaving.
>>
>>27438636
yeah but not the whole truth, just say we were trying to stop a falling plane and weren't strong enough.
>>
>>27438636
Weve already killed alot of people, its not like shes gonna be lonely on the way up or down or side to side.

Infact we might wanna just find a church or some shit and wait for this to blow over
>>
>>27438636

Tell her you failed to prevent the disaster but not that you caused it. White lies are the best truths!
>>
>>27438661
Weren't strong enough doesn't tear a plane to pieces and shunt it into a building
>>
If anyone feels like it, you should help continue this quest since i'm about to leave for class and i doubt there is anyone left in the thread.

>>27438686
she doesn't have to know that.

Rolled 8

>>27438664

Rollin for killing her
>>
>>27438732
You don't get to just say that's what's happening, it's a vote. And killing a single human female wouldn't require a roll.
>>
>>27438732
Doubt we have to roll for that. Only thing rolling would accomplish would be how much of the building we take out along with her.
>>
>>27438509
Got wings, decided to fly, passing pilot had a heart attack, plane went into a nose dive, tried to stop it, just ended up crumpling the damn thing.

I did not see the building.
>>
“No, I tried to prevent it. Turns out being super strong doesn’t just make things that much easier. It was like tissue paper in water, it all just came apart. And then there was that explosion and now I’m here.” You trail off lamely, aware that her face is still full of horror. Maybe she doesn’t believe you, or maybe she’s gone into shock. Either way, she’s backing away slowly and is steadily getting whiter. You realise that she’s looking over your shoulder and turn quickly. But there’s nothing there, except the ruined building and tower of smoke. And rather more fire engines than before. Then you hear her squeal.

“It winked at me!” her shrill voice sounds. It takes you another few seconds to join the dots, but then you realise she’s talking about the disembodied eyes on your wings. In all the excitement and confusion, you’d forgotten all about them.

I'm getting tired and therefore slowing down and letting the quality slip. I'll do one more, then call it a night. Next thread time will come with the next post.

Considered picking up a twitter for setting times and such? Makes things much easier if you don't think you'll be able to keep a specific schedule down.

Not even sure what to say. Maybe something like "I don't even know what's up with those. I can't even see out of them."
>>
>>27438838
"Yeah, the wings are fucking creepy aren't they?"
"Well lady, I think I'm gonna leave the rescue effort to the guys that won't accidentally make the building collapse."
"Later."

“Oh yeah, I’d forgotten about those eyes. I can’t even see out of them, but they seem to see me. Anyway, it blinked not winked.” Looking out of the window again, you see that one or two of the rescue teams have pulled up outside of this building and were hurrying to inspect the damage so evident from where you entered. “Okay, I’m out of here. I don’t know what you should tell the people who ask you want you saw, but saying a huge black skinned agent with eye-wings will get you sent to an asylum. See you around”. You know it would be cooler to dive out of the window, only to swoop up when she rushes to see if you fell, but you don’t really want to be too evident to the police, fire department or anyone else watching. Instead you shoot up quickly. Only this time, you keep a weather eye out for planes.

Next thread will be in 7 days, starting at 6:00pm GMT. Thanks for a fun thread guys.

>>27439043
I gotta ask, how did you expect this to go? Because I'm pretty sure that this wasn't it.
>>
>>27439071
I was sort of hoping for Jin, as that was the one I picked. But Soph is interesting, though I was expecting a bit more preening. And then all those 1s...

Anyway, I'm out. Hope to see you next time.
