Continuation of thread 69
>bow-chicka-bow-wow

---
---

Vonnegut's departure proves to be the end of public events. Most of the mages head back to work; those that aren't assigned to tasks, or have some time off, linger in the fortress, or their wooden cabins lining the inside of the wall.

Auriel decides that the trap left by the Black Hand is too volatile to be retooled as a defense measure. She and Tyrael focus on taking it apart; with his help, it's much easier going. After ensuring that the entrance is safe, teams are dispatched to scour the depths of the craft and insure nothing unsavory stowed away.

Abigail, Flint, and Ila accompany you back to the mana pool. A few angels are working with Cain and Hamil, testing the integrity of the pool's containment unit. It seems to be working fine; the Shadow mages can draw extra mana quickly, but the presence of the pool isn't hampering the angels' abilities.

<Ila,> you say, <I believe I promised you something earlier.>

She nods. "Yes."

You take Ila's hand, and then dip in arm into the pool. After doing it twice, the power transfer is swift and simple. But it's a little different. With Abigail, and Adavan, the darkness coated the soul that was already there in a protective layer; Ila's soul already shares your dark coloring. It adds to her power directly, growing it larger.

Ila takes a long breath as wings unfold from her back. She flexes them once, then hides them. Darkness wavers out from her skin.

She thrusts a hand forward. The smoke gathers in front of her in an instant, forming a round shield of mana. She relaxes, and it dissipates. She clenches a fist. "...strong."

She glances up at Flint, Cain, and Hamil, then looks at Abigail for a moment. Abby stands with her arms folded, casually hiding where her hand was severed, and looks back.

Ila turns to you. "Thank you, Shadow. I won't disappoint you."

<I know.>

What do you do?

Y'know.
It just occurred to me how absurdly strong of a character Abigail has. I mean, given what she's been through at such a young age, with parental betrayal and recent injuries, she's not melodramatically angsty outwardly at all.
I mean, holy shit.

I am NOT advocating fighting them now, but I wonder how we stack against the demon lords. Like, 1v1, 2v1, 3v1, 4v1 etc.

Yeah. FUCK NO. Das what I think.

I'd like to sort Temerity-A-Shit out before having to deal directly with the demon lords, or Kan-Abar.
>>
<I'm going to Jacob's Field,> you say.

"I should come with you," Ila says. "I could - "

<If there is a demon lord on the other side of this passage,> you say, <I will -not- be able to protect you. I am strong...but I'm not all-powerful.> You can't help but glance at Abigail. <I learned that the hard way.>

"...I see." Ila steps back. "Stay safe. Stay silent."

"Good luck, Shadow," Abigail says. "I'll be waiting."

Flint nods to you. "I've been wanting to spar with that bag of bones. Good luck."

<Thank you.> You step into the mana pool and press your senses forward.

You feel lines...deep lines. Tunnels of power. And along those tunnels, points like stars in the darkness - places you've touched, where you've left a mark.

You find the one you're searching for.

When you open your eyes, you're standing in the Spirit mana pool under the keep in the Old Forest. The round, stacked-stoned room is nostalgic. You were so ignorant back then...so...young.

A sharp presence of spirit lingers in Adavan's chamber; the room you know doubles as the entrance to Hecate's tomb. The power of the mana pool muffles your senses, however. You can't get a good reading on it.

What do you do?

Shadow confirmed for trying to talk at dwarven robots with various degrees of success for an entire thread again.

Also you misspelled Pestilence on the tree itself, just fyi.

Pestilence might be one of the most worthwhile XP skills so far, even in spite of its high cost, mostly because it seems like an incredibly useful way to nerf Legion into the ground.

You climb out of the mana pool and sidle up to the door.

The air is still. The pool keeps you from sensing anything specific beyond the door. Someone is definitely there, though.

You poke a tendril underneath the crack between the wood and the cobblestone, moving your "gaze" to the edge of that limb. You sweep back and forward...but you don't see anything.

As far as being able to take one on...remember that Auriel was fully powered up as Angel #5, and bombarded the demon with an airship's cannons, and she still couldn't take it down alone. Though, it wasn't until the demon lord cast its anti-magic spell that she was really taken out of the fight.

>umbra
>a conical shadow excluding all light from a given source

>penumbra
>a space of partial illumination (as in an eclipse) between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light

See which is more symbolic?

I still like Nemesis I wouldn't have kept mentioning it if I didn't, though I'm not sure what would drive us to name it this in-character without the greek mythological connection.

With demon lords in play, you can't take any risks. You Compress yourself to the size of a small mouse and creep under the door. Shrouded in shadows, your aura safely bundled tight, you're confident that not even Yi Fang could pinpoint your exact location.

You enter the room, and find it empty. Strange. You glance around, taking in the monotonous walls of cobblestone, the three alcoves in the back of the room. The center one belonged to Adavan, you remember; the other two held the skeletons he was using the first time you encountered him. They rest there now, carefully placed back in their positions, hands folded over their chests.

You glance up.

Adavan is suspended from the ceiling by ropes of spirit magic. A spell hovers in his hands, ready to fire. You stare at him, uncertain as to what he was thinking.

After a long moment, he relaxes. The cords of magic lower him to the ground, and the spell in his arms fades. He paces briefly, then sits down against a wall and leans his head between his knees.

You decide that it's safe enough to decompress.

<Adavan.>

The lich leaps to his feat, Spirit energy surging to his fingertips - and then he hesitates. "...Shadow?"

<The one and only.>

Adavan squints at your position. "...your namesake is no lie. If you hadn't spoken, I wouldn't have...but then, I could have sworn I felt something." Adavan sighs and sits down. "I don't know if you can sense it, but I've been down here for over a day, now. I've been feeling out the surface for some time. The Kanians are trying to gain entrance to the crypt. Luckily, I was able to take the keys out from the front of the mausoleum and seal it up again. Hecate's own magic won't be easily breached." He looks at you curiously. "Actually, how did you get in?"

<Teleported in through the mana pool.>

You fill Adavan in on the particulars.

"A Great Carrier..." Adavan rubs his chin. "We always wanted to try and capture one of those. They were used to haul other airships, small ones, or those that needed repair. Could be useful. We've got an airship that isn't working, too. It should be plenty big enough to house everyone in Haven as well. Hell, even with that, it'll still feel empty."

<I suppose so.>

He falls silent for a while. You glance at the alcoves. <...who were those skeletons? If you don't mind me asking.>

"...two of me men," Adavan says. "Good friends. They came down here with me of their own insistence." He shifts on the stone a bit. "You see...as I told you before, I never was a commander of the undead." He points to his skull. "My specialty is up here. Mind magic. Lichdom was my only way to preserve myself for the goddess, but those in our faction that might have taught me the particulars were scattered. So...we had to piece things together the old-fashioned way, using the little bits we'd picked up here and there." He looks to his old allies, taking in the dusty bones. "They volunteered to go first with our hack-job spell. I didn't like it, but they said I was too valuable to be the guinea pig. I knew they were right. If one of us survived, it had to be me. I was the strongest. Most like to succeed...when the time did come."

<...what happened?>

>>
"We had only a few weeks water and food," Adavan says. "We waited until it was almost gone to try. So, the pressure was on, let me tell you." His voice grows quiet. "Harlad died on our first attempt. Usip and I...we failed again. He died too. And then I was alone, trying to figure out where we went wrong. Wondering if it was all a pointless effort, anyway. If they died for nothing." He sighs. "...and then I put myself in a coma. And when Abigail's magic stimulated Hecate, for lack of a better term, I woke up, but the aftershock of my efforts started turning the townspeople into mindless undead. It took weeks to get it under control. And then you showed up." He sighs, and shakes his head. "By the elements. You think you know everything, Shadow...and then you realize you're just a fool after all."

<...I'm sorry, Adavan. I pushed too hard, back on Xile.>

"...I should have spoken louder," he says. "Sometimes, the only way to learn a lesson is the hard way." He sets his legs straight. "But enough of the past. We have plenty on our plates as it is." He crooks a finger. "You can't underestimate the advantages of a mobile base. That was Xile's whole strategy, really. By the way, where did Vonnegut end up?"

<He took his share returned home. I suppose he'll be wanting a favor at some point, but - >

Adavan leaps to his feet. "What?! He knows Haven's location! As soon as he pops up on the radar, every angel in Venia will be asking after Lucifer!!"

<I assumed he'd be making himself scarce.>

"They control half the continent! It's not a risk we can take! I thought he would shelter in Archon!" Adavan paces back and forward. "Shit. Shit. Alright. Chasing him...no, he'll be long gone. We cloak Haven as best we can, and we get everyone on board the Cirrus. We stay mobile, check in on Haven later. If it's safe, we can set down again, but not until we're absolutely sure."

Yeah, it should be easy enough to catch up to Vonnegut in Maven Lake, seeing as we can travel faster than he can.

Should probably prepare to get out of Dodge Haven in case he managed to flee the coop either way.

He has to carry around a giant hunk of treasure, so odds are good he has to arrange for transportation either way, and that's going to take time.

Shit. Everything we know about Adavan comes from Auriels hear-say, and Adavan himself. Who knows everything about steering other people. I understand it all.

This is why he still considered Flint only an acquaintance.

The only other character from us he's connected with is Abigail and Fang. Maybe guilt from how he thinks he may need to use her to power up Hectate?

SHADOW MASTER!

ARE YOU ENJOYING YOURSELF?!

DOES THIS NOT ENTERTAIN YOU?!

DO YOU ENJOY WHAT YOU'VE WROUGHT?!
>>
<Come on, I can take us back!> You grab Adavan and drag him into the portal room. You pause. <Wait. What about your phylactery?>

"It's a rock embedded three feet in the damn wall," he says. "No one will find it in a hundred thousand years. Let's go!"

You grab Adavan and teleport through the portal.

Abigail and Flint are still there, watching the mages around the pool adjust the machinery. They reel back in surprise as you fly in with Adavan.

"Shadow? Adavan!" Abigail flies up to the lich and grips him in a hug. "You're ok. You're ok! I was so worried! I'm sorry, I should have - "

"Abby, it's appreciated, but we don't have time right now!"

"What?"

"Vonnegut!" Adavan shouts. "He knows our location! We've got to get everyone on the carrier and out of here before we have a battalion knocking on the walls!"

Flint starts laughing.

"What on earth is so funny?!" Adavan shouts.

"Oh, come on," a voice calls. You all turn. Auriel strides up the corridor, leans up against the wall, and plants a hand on her hip. "I know you're the enemy and all, Adavan, but you didn't think I was that stupid, did you?"

Auriel is certainly not stupid. So she had a plan? <...what's going on?>

"Hamil let me in on a little something before the thief sliced off his part of the treasure," Auriel says. "He's established a contact spell with Blackwater's office in Maven Lake. You know, the Vidar Blackwater. Arch-enemy of Damian Vonnegut?"

Adavan slouches in relief. "He's being intercepted."

"Of course. I figured once we had our mind-mage back, we could tinker around with him and send him on his way with a convenient story." She glances at you. "Didn't you know? Flint didn't even try to stop Vonnegut leaving. After all that self-righteous knight-talk." She grabs Flint's cheek and tugs it. "He is just so cute sometimes."

Flint peels himself away from her hand. "It isn't knight-talk," he mumbles. "He was in violation of the law. He ought to be hanged. And I don't think Blackwater is much better, either."

<Well, why didn't anyone tell me?> you ask.

"Flint was supposed to tell you," Auriel says.

"Uh," Flint mumbles, "I forgot."

<You forgot.>

"...yep."

You sigh. <Well...and then, there's that. And here I am, ready to hunt Vonnegut down and defend Haven from Sandalphon...because you forgot.>

Flint coughs awkwardly. "Uh...sorry, Shadow."

You have to chuckle. <I suppose I can find it in my heart to forgive you.>

---------
---------

You and the party reach Maven Lake in short order. With the promise of getting immediate and pointed revenge on Vonnegut, Vidar Blackwater is all too happy to personally escort you to where they're holding him.

Vonnegut's expression is not happy. He's gagged, and a huge set of mana-absorbing stone bracers hold his hands far apart. There isn't much he can do. He sits in the corner of his cell, staring at you.

"You know what?" Vidar says. The old man scratches his beard. "I say we go one further. Ah...Adavan, was it?"

"Yes."

"If you can tinker with minds, why not set this one straight? Make him an honest man. It would do a lot of people a lot of good."

"...doing more than necessary...has certain ethical implications," Adavan says slowly.

"Ten thousand slaves or so would thank you from the bottom of their hearts," the man shoots back. "If it were me, I'd kill him right here and now."

"We need him to have a story," Auriel says. "Lucifer found a way to Xile, and he and his went there. They sent Vonnegut home, task completed, pay in hand. For all Sandalphon knows, they're still in the skysever."

Blackwater folds his arms. "Hmph."

Vonnegut might think back and suddenly realize "Wait, no, that couldn't happen!" and start getting suspicious and try to track it down. Lucifer was SENT to the great forest. He was SENT to Xile.

That sixth line is an assumption.
>>

<...maybe he deserves to die,> you say. <But...>

"But," Flint says. "He's just too useful alive, is that it?" You glance at your friend. The knight's face shows no pity or sympathy. He stares at Vonnegut. "He should be hanged, and brought back alive to be drawn and quartered. But." He relaxes somewhat. "...after a proper trial. After he's had his day."

Auriel rests a hand on Flint's shoulder. "...when this is over..."

Flint shakes his head. "It'll never be over. We need him alive to protect Haven. The life that killed and buried so many will be put to good use, at least. Adavan, do your best."

Adavan looks at Flint for a long time. Something passes over his face. And then he nods. "He'll have my best. I guarantee it."

It takes time - Vonnegut's men that had been preparing his transportation also need similar stories. But in short order, they're positioned at Vonnegut's lakeside home, some in the ship at the small dock, others in the house. With so much preparation time, Adavan is able to wake them from a slumber all at once, and in short order, it's business as usual for Vonnegut and his men.

----
----

The party meets again in the huge, hollowed-out tree that looms over the lake - and this time, Obis and Freja join you. Flint smiles for the first time in hours, embracing his friend. Freja smiles and nods to you, sticking close to Obis. After an exchange of greetings, you sit down to discuss more important details - namely, the greater alliance that Auriel has been planning.

For the last weeks, Blackwater has been working on the town elders in Felnoir, and he's convinced a vast majority that aligning themselves with Archon is the way forward to gain stability, increase economic autonomy, and, most importantly for the locals, give the finger to the empire. Having Archon's possible immediate protection with the Frontier just to the north is also seen as a major selling point. Obis and Freja have been working overtime to help smooth things over.

>con't
>>
>>27511676
He was there to dig. There is no reason for him to go with Lucifer. Furthermore, having a story of Lucy's whereabouts is going to postpone a search longer than no story at all.

yup and he was gonna investigate the area anyway.
>>
>>27511651
>>27511657
No, it isn't an alright decision. We're cheating ourselves out of a power gain that we genuinely need to face the coming threats.

With the way it is, if we wanna deal with Vonnie again, for good, we'll have a fight on our hands.

And Sandelephon is paranoid to a degree of severe pettiness/brash action.

The [presumed]delay is useless; the [guaranteed]exp is not.

Just caught up reading/transcribing.
You almost voted to off Vonnegut. I understand that he's a "bad" guy, but he's also been quite helpful to us overall. Blackwater has also been in contact with the two camps in the forest - the elves and werewolves, as well as Janus Miller, Haven's main supplier aside from Felnoir. They are willing to form an alliance as well, effectively uniting what had been previously very isolationist sects through the entire great forest. The leader of the elves, Valeria Kavanere, even spoke of possibly constructing a direct trading route between the lake and The Forest Den, though she privately let Blackwater know that the werewolves might take a bit of convincing.

It seems that Janus Miller, in particular, has been earning a profit by shuttling food and supplies to the Duke's guerrilla force. With winter setting in, they've retreated and made camp in the southeast of Kelvere. For now, the Kanian forces have been silent, and patient, weathering the repeated attacks without moving. As they hold the position of strength, they seem to be intent on ensuring Kelvere's complete subjugation before restarting their campaign in spring.

The orc clans in the east of the forest have been even more silent than usual. While not particularly unusual, Blackwater mentions that having expert fighters with strong natural magic resistance on your side would be a very strong advantage. Further, the alliance itself is predicated on a positive relationship with Fang and Archon. Blackwater looks to you to settle that account.

You exchange a pointed glance with Abigail. You didn't exactly leave Archon on a grand note, and returning without a staff and only word of a mysterious 'Melody' might not be exactly what the Archmage was hoping for. The news that the Staff of Winds on Xile was a fake puts a damper on everyone's rising spirits.

What do you say, if anything, and what are your plans?

Sort out Flint first, so to archon for intel, we can also engage in diplomacy while we are there... Once Flint's issue has been dealt with, we can then have him reclaim his country, then we take Orbis to reclaim his country...
Then we get the keys to free Hecate and see about freeing Geb...

Then we can move onto investigations/adventures within the Black Lady's country...
Grab Wrath, while in the area, either befriend or deal with the Black Lady...
Then have fun in Atlantis, possibly get them in on our alliance...
Then we will have the rest of the continent on our side so we can end the war with the angels either though negotiation or more probably, the excessive application of violence...

Also, remember those little skimmer ships Archon has... Wouldn't it be convenient if we had access to some kind of large transport vessel...

I don't particularly care that the guy is using it, but the argument over samefag/not-samefag is detracting from the quest. A Tripcode cuts that off. Not using one at al would achieve a similar result, except the guy could still use the name to be disruptive.
The last few posts with it weren't even all that bad, so ignore the name on it and take it for what it is: another anonymous quest-follower who wants to participate. He just has an aside-goal of disliking me and wanting me to go away.

As the meeting breaks up and your friends disperse, you catch Adavan for a moment. <I had a question for you.>

"Hmm? What about?"

<Well, I was curious,> you say. <I learned that liches needed a...sacrifice. But you said you were alone."

Adavan chuckles. There isn't any mirth in the laugh. "I used three spiders and a rat. It didn't help the stability of the spell." He rubs his forehead. "That, and the life-force I was able to capture as my men died. A patchwork lichdom." He glances at you. "That's why I was severely weakened when I came out of it, and why it took so much to wake me up. Honestly, if you hadn't stopped Flint back then, he very well might have killed me."

<I see.>

"Why do you ask?"

<Curiosity, mostly.>

"Oh, just come out with it," Adavan says. "Hell, I might not believe me, either. Not a mage capable of mind magic. You'd be foolish to do so." He squints at you. "Those are exactly the kind of things you should be focused on. I don't take people at face value. Neither should you." He leans back. "Though, I think I can make a personal exception for Flint. He's a terrible liar."

<I apologize, Adavan.>

"Don't worry about it."

----

You find Abigail out on one of the many open decks protruding from the tree. She looks out over the lake, taking in the setting sun. You step up next to her, letting the moment sit without hurry.

"I guess we should go soon, huh."

<I guess.>

"...Shadow," Abigail says, "I've been thinking."

<I know there's got to be a lot on your mind,> you say. <I'm wondering how we're going to deal with the councilors, and Fang. I'm not sure what we have to offer that could convince him to join us.>

"...I know something."

<What?>

"Me," Abigail says simply.

"When we were on Xile - sometimes, I helped. I survived. But...I felt like I was a burden." She waves a hand at you, stopping you from speaking. "Look, I know you're going to say that's not true. Maybe it's not. But that's how I -felt-. I've got a lot of magic, but it keeps slipping through my fingers. Back in the Archonium - back then..." She swallows, grips the railing of the deck with both hands. "...I was the only...thing, I guess, with magic. It was easy to do what I had to do - no competition. I could just overpower whatever got in my way. But out here, power isn't enough. I don't know what I'm doing. I feel like I'm on the end of an airship deck cannon and I'm just mashing the controls as fast as I can. I need to learn control.

"You're getting stronger every day," Abigail says. "I can feel it. I know you so well...and the way I sense you changes all the time. You're getting...heavier. Weighty. You're turning into something that can stand up to angels, to demon lords. If - no. When I stand at your side to face those challenges, I've got to be able to carry my own weight. I've got to be a force that can make a difference. Strong enough that you don't have to check and make sure I'm alright every five seconds. Strong enough to do what you need me to do, and what I need to do for myself." She faces you squarely. "If I have to, I'll take responsibility for the destruction of the Archonium - as a councilor of Archon. I'll make it a political decision - the right move for the country as a whole. A step forward the new kind of place that my uncle claimed he wanted. I believe he wants it, Shadow. I do. I think he's worth a second try."

Huzzzah! she has both hands again!!!
>>

gasp in wonder at her hand, ask her how she regrew it.

<Abby, I don't want you to be doing whatever your uncle wants and chasing after more power. I've never wanted that. But I can at least see the logic in what you're saying. Can we at least try other options first? If it comes down to that, then that's what we'll have to do.>
>>
>>27512550
>Eternaly typing

>Bullet Point
*I don't like it, but you're right.
*Do what you can to bring out the human part of your uncle, I'm sure it's still in there.
>Short
<You were not a burden. Your presence helped us succeed, and where I failed was my failure - not yours. But You're correct. Your presence in Archon would be more significant, and better for your training as well.>

>TL;DR
<You were not a burden, Abigail. You made a decisive difference numerous times on Xile, and without you I'm not sure we'd have gotten as far as we did.
That said... perhaps you are correct. Fang will not change his ways, alone and surrounded by the reign of terror he constructed. Your presence in Archon in a political capacity would help change the way the city has conducted its administration, slowly but surely.
And there is no better place for you to train as a summoner than in the city of Archon.>
>>
>>27512550
Let her go.
>>
>>27512696
>tldr longer than the rest of the post.
Looks like we aren't going to get anything better, though, so I guess we going with this.

You smut writing faggot.
>>
>>27512550
This is Abby's decision. I'm willing to put my faith in her, hesitant I may be. Hell, we can leave wispbro with her to watch her back.
>>
>>27512719
He was saying that part was the tl;dr version.

Writing the last post for tonight.

Simulated deep breath, "Oh I now he wants it, but fair warning I may still have some lingering trust issues surrounding your uncle. Abby, I don't think of you've been a burden, but you're right that in so many ways you're still new to your magic, still learning the finer points of control." Hop over and sit lightly on the railing, place hand on hers "I know you're right, about this, and I'm glad you aren't asking me what to do because this once I think I'd be selfish and ask you to stay." Just be silent with her for a bit and see where this goes.
>>
>>27512722
She's going to need more than a scout.
>>
>>27512550
<I can't let you do this just as a bargaining chip; I don't think I could stand it if I did. But I also don't want you to just do this out of a feeling of obligation. As long as this is really something you want -- for yourself first, even if if's also for others -- I know you'll do just fine.>

<...and if you really think he's worth a second try, I think it's going to be a long road, and you're going to have to be the one to convince him. I'm not entirely sure HE thinks he's worth a second try anymore.>

<First of all, you weren't a burden,> you say. <The mistakes that were made were mine.

<I've never wanted you under your uncle's control. Hunting for power - that's what put him in the situation he's in today.

<But at the same time,> you continue, <I can't deny your logic. And if there's some humanity left in there...you're the one who can pull it out him.> You walk up to her and take her good hand...and her bad one. <I don't want to use you as a bargaining chip, Abby. I want to be selfish. I want you to stay with me. But if you're sure this is something you have to do - not just for him, but for yourself - then it's not my place to stop you.>

Abigail's fingers intertwine with yours. She looks down at the floor of the deck. "I...yeah. It is. But more than that...I like Sir Flint. And Adavan, of course, and...Auriel's been more than kind. Ila...we get along. But I just..." She looks back up at you. "I feel like I don't quite fit in Haven. Like it's a group that started somewhere else, and I wasn't there for the whole thing. You know me, so I'm accepted...but I'm not one of them. Archon, though...

"My father left because he didn't want the life Yi fang intended for me, but he doesn't want that life for me, either. If I'm ever going to...put what happened in that -thing- behind me, I have to take it and put it behind me. I have to trust people. I have to give my uncle the benefit of the doubt, especially because I don't think anyone's given that to him for a long time. He's...the only family I have. Archon is my real home. The people that live there are my people. I think...I know I can be a leader for them, and take them to a better place."

>con't

<You've given this a lot of thought.>

"I learn from the best."

<What do you mean?>

"When I was lost, you came for me," she says. "You always came for me. What kind of person would I be if I didn't do the same for my own people?"

For a long time, you can't find the words. You try to push them out of your mouth, but they stumble awkwardly. <I didn't - I never realized you...considered it, much that way. I...>

Abigail pulls down on your hands and kisses your cheek. "You're cute when you don't know what to say." She lets you go, skips back a step, and grins. "Anyway, we better get going."

You're still floundering in surprise when Auriel and Flint walk up to the deck's entrance. "Shadow, Abigail. Came to see you off."

You find yourself exchanging pleasantries with your friends, reminders of what to do and say, and goodbyes. You're on the verge of telling them about Abigail's decision, but her thoughts stop you. <It'll be better if they hear it after,> she says. <Sir Flint won't like it. But this is for the best, for a lot of people.>

You give her a quite nod.

And then, you're tucking her in under you as your spread your wings. You're suddenly extremely conscious of how you're holding her. She settles back against you. "I always feel safe with you, Shadow."

<...I'm glad.>

She spreads her arms, not caring that her sleeve is dragged down, revealing where her left arm ends. "Let's fly!"

You flap up high, rising above the deck, and then the tree. Your aura gathers behind you, compressing into a disc...

To Be Continued

Probably Thursday night, around 10pm EST.

Meta very briefly, I have to get sleep tonight.
>>
>>27513088
Why in the world are we flying when we can just manaport?
>>
>>27513100
Because showing up in a mana pool manned by a bunch of people who would assume we're attackers or something isn't very smart.
>>
>>27513100

It's not as romantic.
>>
>>27513100
Abby enjoys flying, unlike flint.

Yes.

Ahh. For the first time since ever I'm going to possibly miss Shadow Quest.

Anyway, thanks for the thread SM. How'd that car accident turn out? Everything work out?
>>
>>27513126
Perhaps we should find a more isolated manapool in Archon that we can use for this type of thing.

I believe there were some underground somewhere that we picked up on the deep focus, yea?
>>
>>27513146
I thought that was in Ring City.
>>
>>27513126
Will there be a way to subjugate Temerity and the other shards?
Also are the shards like Breeze, Hammer and Ardor leaning more towards Order or Chaos or are they just perfectly balanced?
>>
>>27513157
Yeah. I'm curious about this myself. As far as I can see these shards are of both.
>>
>>27513157
Should we reforge Temerity? Can it even withstand the conversion? I feel like we're carrying the makings of the final boss and I don't like it.
>>
Back in the Archonium, you made an offer to have Humanity wear Isolation's shattered shard as a hat.

Was that a "Fix it with Humanity to make a new shard" option, or was it some kind of weird hybrid deal?
>>
>>27513208
It's going to pop out of us and fuse with Legion.
>>
>>27513208
Temerity and Humanity combine into one super shard obviously. They become Balance.
>>
>>27513139

Miraculously, despite being hundreds of miles away from home trying to pick a family member up from school, things worked out about as well as I could hope. The person I hit (I ran a red light in a moment of inattention) was very nice, the body shop worker was a total awesome old guy who ferried me the last ten minutes to my sister's school, and my uncle had the next day off so he could bring us back.

I was using my grandmother's car, but she's very well-off financially. As soon as I was home in one piece, she was already joking about how I was going to have to help her shop for a new one. She didn't even want me to pay the deductible, but I managed to convince her to at least let me cover half of it.

Also, Geico was not a faggot and made putting in a claim pretty easy.

>>27513236
It's nice to know everything went well, then.

See you next time, SM.
>>
>>27513208
if we cant, we'll break him down and kill him. he really cant be left alive. and he's gotta be dealt with soon
>>
>>27513236
So we can't "fix" Temerity and the other shards through meditation? Also can someone screencap the Mr. Shadow with a a birthday hat I think it looks bretty good.
>>
>>27513229
i like you
>>
>>27513286
L-lewd. Next thing you'll be telling me is you want to hold hands.
>>
>>27513276
He'll just reform in a manapool somewhere and go on a CONSUME spree. With no moral qualms -at all- he will rapidly gain fuckloads of power. Also, he might catch a few shards that we don't manage to get.

"Killing" him is a terrible idea. Either we reforge him with Humanity, or we contain him as best we can.
>>
>>27513276
He's kind of trying to fuck us over from the inside-out. This is something we need to deal with but I don't think destroying is the option. Fortunately, if we don't fuck up consuming and reforging Wrath. He'll be stuck at 3 against 5. Otherwise it'll be 4 on 4. Need to see if we can reforge Isolation and Silence too. Though Temerity will fight us.
>>
>>27513304
just reform at a mana pool? wtf are you even talking about. erebus scattered compartmentalized chunks of his own power across the world to reform at a late date, therefore broken and annihilated shards can miraculously reform at mana pools? get the fuck out.
>>
>>27513343
That's the fluff, man. We've been told his final act was to place mana pools at key points along the ley lines so he would reform there.
>>
>>27513236
>>they think I'll answer these questions
It was more a question to the board in general. I wouldn't ask you to spoil it for us.
>>
>>27513208
>Should we reforge Temerity? Can it even withstand the conversion? I feel like we're carrying the makings of the final boss and I don't like it.
>>27513220
>It's going to pop out of us and fuse with Legion.

(if we fall below reactor safety protocols, i'm guessing temerity breaks loose and takes all aligned shards with him)

What we REALLY need to do is have a sit-down shut-up and listen talk with Temerity.
Meditate on it, and tell him the ollowing, straight up.

"As a being of order, you are way too set in your ways to even CONSIDER alternatives. You have a lifetime of war and unending hate for chaos to even consider the possibility that balance is possible."
"Yet I know better. Judgement controls our actions, because I see the energies of Order manifesting in the souls of humans, the flow of our power polluting the very flow of the raw mana of this world to remake Erebus."
"You whine and mewl about the corruption being a bad thing, but you have failed to realize it cuts both ways. "
"If I can be affected, then the reverse is true. Period. You? You're a coward, too afraid to see if its possible, to risk changing your plans or tactics in light of new information. "
"I agree that the rising problem of magic, chaos getting out of hand, feeing upon itself in a loop isn't a good thing. What I don't agree with are your intractable methods. "

"You need to adapt to the situation at hand. Not I . YOU. You want to take the war to chaos? Fine.'
"You can start by helping me come up with a plan to attack, control, possibly destroy its source. Not these piddly mages and creatures, golems and elementals you take offense to. "

"I will not corrupt you, temerity. You are a link to my past, my true nature. But you are also a reminder that there are better ways than a one track mind. And I will show you its possible, if you stop acting like an attack dog and start acting like a general."

"You want to strike against chaos? This is your chance to have input."
