You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to be RATHER unpleasant.

After a tearful goodbye, you did your best to cheer the Princess up... though you're not quite sure how well that went.

And now, you're being subjected to the horror that is...

...BALLROOM DANCING.

>Guard Rank: RAT
>Congratulations, you are now a pathetic Rat!
>Snakes eat rats... but rats are ranked above them?
>Though she still isn't fond of you, the Princess dislikes you a bit less!
>You're still not considered a person, though.

"Ah, it's so wonderful to have you help out today..." Paulie says as she maintains a vicegrip on both of your hands.
"Um... 'help'...?" you reply, dreading what exactly she means by that.
"Of course! We have a big strong man such as yourself, so it'd be a shame not to put you to use!

As the Princess watches on with an amused smirk, Pauline drags you into the center of the room and gets to work positioning you as an artist might do with a wooden mannequin. After she's satisfied with your stance, she places one of your hands on her waist and takes the other in hers.

"Alright, Princess. It's important to grasp the form properly, so I'll show you how it's supposed to look with Mr. Reinhold here. Please try and memorize the positions," Pauline says.

She then proceeds to lead you in... some kind of dance, and you do your best to keep up and not crush her tiny old lady feet. After about ten minutes of this, she finally releases you from your torture.

"Alright, do you remember the forms?" Pauline asks as she approaches the Princess.
"Yes, it's the same dance that we've been going over for the past month or so," she replies.
"Good, so I don't need to go through it with you again..."

Pauline then pushes Marianne over to you, manually placing the two of you in the proper positions to begin.

"It's important that you get used to dancing with someone who's taller than you, so Mr. Reinhold, if you will..." Pauline says to you, winking.

Ignoring the sinking feeling in your stomach, your gaze turns to the Princess. Her face is like a stone mask, not betraying any emotion whatsoever. But her eyes... that is most definitely a glare of pure fury.

>how do you respond?

Don't make eye contact. She can't eat you if you don't make eye contact.

This is unrelated, but I think that when we get sarcastic or snarky, we should return to shorter and less dramatic dialogue. Like, the "woof" was funny. Partly because I think it's a bit more professional, partly because it makes the likelihood of fedora-neckbeard dialogue being used by us less likely.

And generally cut down on snark, unless the Princess is extremely offensive to us. The entire quest it's been made clear she doesn't like hearing it. So out of a polite courtesy, we should cut down.
>>
>>27526490
She got used it, plus it would be strange if out of the week she has known us we just became quit and polite.
>>
>>27526490
The snark is one of those things she doesn't like on it's own but I think she at least appreciates us showing some backbone. I'd definitely cut down a bit, but I think she'd just as likely get angry if we cut down. Both for the reason I mentioned above and because she's used to us being like that now.

"I'll try not to embarrass you," you say to the Princess while making EXTRA sure that your hands stay exactly where Pauline placed them.

She simply rolls her eyes at you as Pauline signals for you to begin. As you don't really know what you're doing, you simply follow the Princess's lead. Pauline stops you occasionally to move your legs into the right position, but it otherwise goes as smoothly as something like this possibly could.

After about thirty minutes of this, you're finally freed from your slow torture... but hey, you can kind of almost dance noW!

After saying your goodbyes to Pauline, the Princess wastes no time in getting as far from that room as possible. Before you know it, you end up at her next class...

...etiquette.

Maybe this sudden focus on formal matters and foreign politics has something to do with the upcoming trip to Marconetti?

Woah woah woah. Limiting interaction and personality? I didn't know the only way to talk to people and not be a drone was to look like this pic.

Like I said, some of the dialogue anons have suggested in the past have been overbearing. Not all, some. Some like:
>>27526148

And being used to something does not mean you like it. You can have a bit of backbone without being sarcastic.

>>27526627

Archelon, try not to take this the wrong way, but is this an actual option? IIRC, when we did this, our PC spaced out and thats it. With the other option, we actually get to learn as a player and see some character interaction.

Being sarcastic is a good way to show that you aren't just rolling over for someone while also not outright refusing them either. Instead of saying there are other ways point them out. I'm not going to just stop doing something that's already part of our character just because you don't like that a few anons can't keep their fedoras in check. Particularly when Archelon hasn't let that kind of thing slip into Reinhold's dialogue and character

Some of the best moments for me were when we didn't use dry sarcasm. When we had the second confrontation with Monique, said 'woof', and the way we responded when Marianne asked if our parents raised us right. Being serious and professional has also been part of our character, and we don't have to be sarcastic to every line uttered towards us anyway.

Umm, the "Woof" thing was sarcasm so I don't see why you're listing that. Furthermore we aren't sarcastic to everything. It's only a few opportune moments and usually one before breakfast. We are the vast majority of the time more professional than anything so I don't see why you need to petition for cutting down on the snark.
>>
>>27526806
>Archelon, try not to take this the wrong way, but is this an actual option? IIRC, when we did this, our PC spaced out and thats it. With the other option, we actually get to learn as a player and see some character interaction.

It was a joke if anything, but let's not argue over that. All I did was suggest we should rein it in a little, and I'm not the only one who thinks this either. I don't think we actually disagree in general so much as you took what I said as never using sarcasm ever or something.
>>
You do your best to pay attention, to the old butler's lecture. This time, he goes on about proper court manners. When to speak, when not to speak, where to stand... though it's as impossibly boring as always, you can at least kind of understand why knowing this kind of thing would be important.

After what seems like an eternity, the old man's lecture finally ends and the Princess gets up from her seat.

"That's all for today," she says as she heads out of the room. Shaking off the daze of boredom, you get up and hurry behind her.

Stopping in front of the door to her room, the Princess turns to you.

".........well," Marianne mumbles, trying to figure out what exactly to say, "concerning earlier today... thank you."
"Um, you're welcome," you reply, really surprised that she's not pissed at you.
"I do appreciate that you don't seem to be entirely insensitive," she says, looking away from you. "And you managed not to make a fool of me or yourself during those dancing lessons. Do try and keep it up."

>>27527279
I've always taken issue with the "Guard X" and "Stay silent" options. They've been picked far too often and it makes it feel like I have to wait for the end of the thread or some other moment to actually participate actively in the quest. I actually just read the quest in the archives for the first 12 or so threads just because I didn't see much of a point to post in a quest I'd barely be able to participate in.
>>
>>27527409
Well, the problem with "Guard X" is that it seems to be at best a scene skipper.

"Guard X" does not work in the castle. We just do nothing instead of listening in or talking. At least outside it can make sense, but we spend most of the time indoors the castle, full of royal guard.
>>
"Yes, Princess," you reply with a bow.
"Hmph. Well, I suppose that will be all for tonight. You'll be on your own tomorrow, so try not to get youself arrested or horribly injured while you're out celebrating not having to be around me. Good night," she replies.

Since your room is right down the hall, you make a quick stop to grab the two books that you finished reading earlier and go to return them to Gerhard. As you enter the library, you look around... there's no trace of anyone else.

"Uh, Gerhard? Are you around?" you ask, just in case he's hiding right behind you.

But even after a couple of minutes of waiting, you get no answer. Figuring that he must be at another of the castle's libraries, you turn around to go back into the hallway. and...

"Gaah!"

The second you turn around, Gerhard fades into sight. Looking a bit out of breath, he bows to you.

"I apologize if I made you wait, I was talking with Arnaud and didn't notice that you'd called for me," Gerhard says.
"Um, don't worry about it," you reply as you hand him the books.

Would that be so bad?
>>
>>27528123
Two things, ships shares, and land, being a landowner means you decide what businesses and homes are allowed there, and can collect rent based on the earnings thereof, Ships shares gives you a percentage of the profits a ship earns along its trade routes, though if the ship is sunk or lost for whatever reason you lose everything.
>>
>>27528151
Fuck it, your character interactions and sense of wordplay are pretty damn good. Only one or two QAs are better at it, and they've been at it for a while.
>>
>>27528088
That can work. I just felt that if all we did was act 100% altruistic, it can feel a bit unrealistic and out of character. Our PC should have selfish desires, even if they're small things or humble things like 'retirement planned out'.
>>
>>27528151
>Um, wow. Thanks.
It's not exactly that high praise, considering the competition. Getting beyond "one dimensional waifu" is enough to be ahead of the pack. If you want an actual compliment, you portray characters better than a lot of published authors too.
>>
>>27528179
I'm good with buying land, but i doubt we have enough gold for it.

Seems like she already interpreted our helping her mood as mostly being dutiful, so a gift wouldn't do much. Not that it would anyway.
>>
>>27528245
you actually can, nobles often sell off unused land when short on gold, it makes you a landowner/freeholder which basically means you don't owe fealty to anyone but the crown in a direct sense.
>>
>>27528232
I thought AC-Guy was pretty good myself. Unfortunately he's ded... ;_;
>>
>>27528232
SM's pretty good at characters too. Though I'd say it's less that he's better than Archelon at characters and more that his prose is more interesting.

>>27528284
I think it's to show that we weren't just out celebrating not being around her like she seems to think. It's more to say we don't find her to be a nuisance and to boost her self-esteem. Not sure what gift a princess would appreciate from us but I like the spirit of the idea.
>>
>>27528287
Also miracle happened and we actually have gone up in feudal society. Not taking advantage of that is just stupid.

That said this is anime medieval setting so probably soft feudalism.

>>27528275
Land is held by nobility. You can't own it except as part of a noble title, which would be inherited or granted by a noble. It's worth far more than money and would only be for sale if there's a nobleman whose finances are utterly fucked and he'll lose everything without that money. Even then, it would go for far more than we have, or stand to make any time soon. It's not really something to invest in, but rather it's something we can aspire to - after we earn a name, probably.

>>27528332
Honestly, I don't think she'd take it that well - a few well-placed (and heartfelt) words would be far better for that.
>>
>>27528334
Depends on the system anyway. Own land and the king will usually ennoble you in some eras/countries.

It seems we're part of that small class of non-wealthy Freemen, though.
>>
>>27528332
maybe get something from the baker she goes to and when we give it to her pretty much say we don't hate spending time with her. I am not great with dialog
>>
>>27528392
This. We've known her for less than a week so keep it simple.
>>
>>27528392
That was the reason why I suggested getting it. And it'd be a small surprise since she cant go out often.

>>27528382
I don't know. It's been established that "you can buy a house" with just 1 gold I think, but we make 10 gold. Plus we have 30 from the tournament.
>>
>>27528378
I think that's a bit -too- personal. Besides, we don't know what she looks like.

>>27528382
Eh, maybe we should bring this up with someone who knows her. Like the shopkeeps from before or Nicolette and Sylvie. She did enjoy the stuff she bought when she was out with us and it's obvious she's upset she can't go out there more.
>>
>>27528378
Nigger are you fucking for real right now?
>>
>>27528388
That was France before the revolution, by the way.

Also, "Franklin" was a kind of class in medieval britain. It means a "landowner of free but not noble origin".
>>
This is probably the most interesting slice of life quest I've ever read. I mean, other QMs have tried to pull off this kind of "day to day" thing, and it always just ends up dull. For some reason this seems really engaging.
>>
>>27528382
Not really accurate, lesser nobles wouldn't sell it, since they don't have much, but the higher up you go, the more land they have, and while that does bring more money, it also means they spend more on luxuries to keep up with other nobles of similar status.

This often lead to higher ranking nobles actually breaking close to even on their income vs their expenditure, so they'd sell off some of their rather large endowment of land in exchange for quick income rather than investing in the land themselves.

They also weren't too reluctant to sell it off because landowners could and did become minor nobility if they owned enough land and then they fell back under their purview because they owed fealty once again.

We don't really have that much gold in the scheme of things, but if we saved we could realistically start buying plots of land in just a few months.
>>
>>27528468
Yeah, it's pretty impressive that this is fun and enjoyable when the most important thing to happen is "a friend came over to visit".

"Um... is there anything you'd reccomend in term of books on finances? I just got paid, and I have no idea what to do with that much money," you say with a nervous laugh.
"Finances...?" Gerhard looks at you, a bit confused. "Do you mean something like funding trade expeditions or business ventures? I believe we have something about that..."
"Oh, and could I get another book on history? I'll be going to Marconetti soon, so I'd like to learn a bit beforehand."
"That will be an easy request," Gerhard says with a bow, then disappears into the maze of bookshelves to find the books that you asked for.

A few minutes later, he reappears next to you with two books.

"Here you are," Gerhard says as he hands the them to you. "'A brief history of the Kingdom of Marconetti,' I believe by the same author as the book on Granache's history, and 'beginning entrepreneurial tactics,' by Norbert Thibeaudet."
"Thanks," you say with a nod as you look the books over.
"I have a bit of business to attend to, so I suppose this is farewell," Gerhard says, bowing.

With that, he disappears once again, and you head out into the hallway.

"Archelon" sounds like a name a guy would pick. Although the lowercase obfuscates that, and googling it reveals that it's a turtle which is definitely more of a feminine thing to use as a user name... but also an extinct turtle which swings it back towards male. The writing style is also not celarly one way or the other.

In short, archelon is totally androgynous in character. So probably a guy since this is still 4chan. He probably just has a sister or possibly close cousin.

"Eh? Um... I guess figuring out your affinity would be next," she replies.

"It's just to figure out what element you are. You can still use any kind of magic, but spells of your own affinity take up less magic to do."
"Oh, so it's not a restriction thing?"
"Umm... spells of an opposing type to your own will take up a little more, but it's not like a massive drawback or anything."

"After dinner sounds good to me," you say.
"Um... okay!" Sylvie replies, smiling.

As if her sole goal was to spoil the mood, Nicolette stomps to the table and plops down into her seat.

"Uh, you okay?" you ask.
"Nicolette? Are you in trouble?" Sylvie joins in.

Nicolette then puts her head on the tble and covers it with her arms.

"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK," she moans.
"What, did you do something to get Sir Gregory mad at you?" you ask, seriously starting to become worried.
"He's not pissed at me, just the world... god damn it," Nicolette says as she lifts her head from the table.
"Um, what happened?" Sylvie asks.

Nicolette lets out a long sigh, and then turns to the two of you.

"Apparently, there was a bit of an issue as to who gets to come along on the trip to Marconetti. It was a tossup between him, Vincent, or Arnaud. Since the King's coming along, they figured that it wouldn't be safe for more than one of those three to leave the country at the same time." Nicolette explains.
"Yes, I can understand that," Sylvie replies.
"So anyways, they all drew straws..."
"...and Sir Gregory won?" you ask.
"Yeah. But he was the only one who -didn't- want to go. He tried to switch with Arnaud since he's like friends with Marconetti's king or something, but Thierri was like HAHAHA THEM'S THE BREAKS and so he's stuck going anyways."

"So, um... you feel bad for him?" you ask, not sure why Nicolette herself is so angry.
"You see, Reinhold, he decided that if -he- has to put up with their bullshit then -I- have to come along with him to share in his misery," she says, clutching her head in anguish.

"Umm..." Sylvie mumbles, "since my father isn't able to come, does that mean that I'll have to stay behind?" she asks.
"Nah. That's apparently the main reason that Vincent wanted to go, but they said that you'll be able to come anyways."
"Oh, okay!" Sylvie replies, a wide smile on her face.

"Gaah... I thought that this would be a chance to be able to wander around the castle for a while without having to worry about Marianne or anyone else bugging me..." Nicolette grumbles.
"You'll never make Knight with that attitude," Sylvie replies with a scolding tone.
"Whatever..." Nicolette grumbles, and then turns to Sylvie. "Oh yeah. I'm going to have to buy a stupid fucking dress for this thing, so YOU are going to be accompanying me in town tomorrow so I can get one."
"Eh? But don't you have to do captain stuff, or..."

>>
Next time somebody brings up art as an odd hobby for a royal guard, we should just reply "attention to details"

Speaking of which, unless otherwise prompted by our affinity, our focus for magic to learn should be detction, perception, speed, and protection ... in that order.

"Huh, what a coincidence," you say, scratching your head. "I have tomorrow off... too..."

You cut yourself off once you realize what you've potentially gotten yourself into, but it's too late. Both Nicolette and Sylvie are staring at you intently, and you know what they want...

"Reinhold. Mind saying that again?" Nicolette says, a wicked grin on her face.
"Um... I'm off tomorrow...?" you weakly reply.
"Ehehe... you know what this means, don't you...?"
"Um, I recall that I won that bet the other day, so I'm not obligated to carry your bags..." you reply, trying to evade her trap.

"There wasn't anything you wanted to do in town, Reinhold?" Sylvie asks, starry-eyed.
"I was thinking about looking for a place to buy a pocketwatch, but..." you reply.
"Hahaha, then it's decided!" Nicolette slaps the table and points at you. "The three of us will be hitting the town tomorrow!"

You look over at Sylvie, and think the word "Help" REALLY HARD while trying to conceptualize its script... but she only looks at you with a puzzled expression.

"Yay," you mumble, utterly defeated.
"Haha, I knew you'd come around!" Nicolette says, a wide grin on her face.
"...but if you expect me to carry your things, it'll cost you another sketch," you say. "Each."

Sylvie stares at you while blushing profusely, but Nicolette simply laughs.

"Yeah, yeah. Quit trying to deny it, you know you're looking forward to accompanying two pretty girls on the town," she says to you.
"N- Nicolette, cut that out!" Sylvie squeaks, unable to hit Nicolette because she's sitting on the opposite side of the table.

As you go on about your plans for tomorrow, Margot approaches your table with a food cart.

"Heading into town with these two ladies, Reinhold? You better be on your best behavior though, or Sir Vincent will get youuu..." Margot teases as she places a plate of food in front of each of you.

Today's dinner is something that you're not quite familiar with, stir-fried chicken and vegetables.

"The chef decided to try something a bit more exotic today," Margot says. "It's as delicious as anything else though, so eat up!"

With that, she heads back around the corner.

While the presentation of the food on your plate certainly is nice to look at, it is food all the same. You make quick work of CONSUMING it, appreciating how delicious it is for the small amount of time that you're able to do so. As you finish, you look over to Nicolette and Sylvie... they did't beat you today!

You take a few moments to appreciate this small victory, and then Sylvie turns to you.

"Umm... I have to pick something up before the magic lesson, but you can go on head to the same library that we were at last night and I'll meet you there," Sylvie says as she adjusts her glasses.

"Yeah, see you first thing tomorrow," Nicolette replies as she heads out into the hallway.

You then start your trek to the library, taking a longer path than usual to get there because you don't really feel like sitting in one place for however long it takes Sylvie to get done with her business.

As you enter the library, you look around to see if anyone else is around before taking a seat at the table.

"Hello again, Reinhold," Gerhard says from across the table. "You seem to becoming a regular fixture here at the library. Is Miss Sylvie giving you more magic lessons today?" he asks.
"Yeah, she said that she had to stop by somewhere beforehand, so I'm just kind of waiting for her here," you reply.
"I see. Assuming that you've managed to master Conceptualization already, the next step would be... ah. I understand now," he says, snapping his fingers.

"Uh, yeah. Go ahead," you say to sylvie.
"Okay. Ummm... that's right. Affinities," Sylvie mumbles, adjusting her glasses. "Umm, magical energy comes in several different types. There are a bunch of different basic elements, and researcher people separate them by 'Sun' and 'Moon' categories. Basically, the entire planet lets off a background amount of magical energy, and different places have different elemental types," she says, getting in the groove of explaining things.

"That's actually what most of the Old Kings decided the boundaries of their kingdoms would be, but never mind that... um... oh yeah!" she says, clapping her hands. "So normal non-magicusing people are born with the affinity of whatever element the land they were born in has, but strong magicusers have a larger presence so their kids tend to be the same type as they are. It usually skews on the side of the mother since she's the one who's carrying the baby, but that's basically how that works."

"So, um, the elements... on the Sun side, there's Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning and Light. On the Moon side, there's Water, Earth, and Darkness. There's also some subcategories like how Ice is pretty much a separate thing from Water, but that's that..." Sylvie says.

"I already explained how affinities work in regards to casting spells, so... that's pretty much it as far as that goes," she says, clapping her hands together. "Oh yeah. Umm... Light and Darkness are the rarest affinities to have, and people with them have a bonus on magical energy expenditure for the category that they're in. So Light users use less energy for Sun-type spells, and Darkness users use less for Moon-type ones."

"So, um..." Sylvie pulls out a scroll and shows it to you. "I guess I'll explain how these work now.

"Uh, mind if I ask a question?" you ask.
"Eh?" Sylvie squeaks, not having expected that, "Um, sure!"

You scratch your head, and try and remember what you wanted to ask...

"Can your affinity change?" you ask.
"Can it... no, not normally," Sylvie replies. "But people who make a contract with an elemental spirit end up getting their affinity changed to whatever that spirit's was. Aside from that, not that I know of."

"So, um, back to scrolls..." Sylvie says, fidgeting. "Even though you can't actually read Script, it's possible to copy it down like any other writing. It used to be that people in the Church would use it like calligraphy, but there was a mage a few hundred years ago who created a spell called 'Inscription' that copies it right onto a piece of paper," she explains.

"A spell's Script works no matter where it is, even if it's not directly conceptualized. That's why scrolls are so widely used, even someone who has no idea how to conceptualize can cast a spell if they have one!" Sylvie says excitedly. "But each one only works once, since they burn up once the spell is Invoked... to do that, you unfurl the scroll so all of its Script is visible, concentrate on it, and then say the spell name."

With her explanation finished, Sylvie hands you the scroll that she was just holding.

"What does this one do?" you ask, looking at the scroll while taking care not to open it.
"It's called 'spirit field,' it's how most people figure out what affinity they are," Sylvie says to you, and then grabs your arm. "Umm... let's head to the window, I don't want to accidentally start a fire."
"Uh, okay?" you say as she lulls you along.

"Okay, this is it... unfurl the scroll and say the spell name," she says, fidgeting with excitement.

Following her instructions, you unfurl the scroll, hold it away from anything that could possibly catch fire, and...

"Spirit Field."

Switch to negative lighting. Build lighting balls and toss them with realistic effects. Shock a dude strategically in order to short his nervous system out.

It's kind of why I like Light magic. Easier to do stuff like start fires and fan it with wind. Or tie someone down with wind for a instant and fire a lighting shot.

i concur, as is his past life darkness suits him, i don't know why he turned the way he is now.
But with realizing he can't escape his past, represented by the element, it would change the plot greatly. i hope.

As the scroll bursts into flame, you can feel something strange welling from within you. As you look over at Sylvie, your vision is clouded by... sand?

"Oh wow, Reinhold! You're a... no, wait. It's... black?"

As the effects of the spell ends, the ground is covered in black sand... picking it up, you realize that it's not what you're used to seeing on beaches, but rather it's the black iron sand that one would find in a blacksmith's shop.

"...wow," Sylvie says, as she picks up a handful. "It looks like your base is Earth, just like me... but I guess this means that your specific affinity is metal? That's really rare!"
"..it is? Is there something special about it?"
"Umm... well, it's a subtype of the Earth element. Spells of that type will cost less energy whe you cast then, but I think I read somewhere that some Earth spells will form as metal instead of stone," she says to you, adjusting her glasses.
"Huh, that sounds kind of weird," you say, not quite sure what that will entail since you don't actually know any spells.

"But still, that's great! I ought to tell my father, he'll be really impressed!" Sylvie exclaims as she takes your hand and jumps around a bit.

Light was not one element out of many. It was literally "THE ENTIRE FUCKING SUN CATEGORY" as a choice. The majority's choice should be reflected as another Sun Element if the roll fails.

Look, I'm not one to suck cock. As other people pointed out, the way this entire vote was handled was mishandled, especially with Light and Dark having random chances to cancel votes. Secondly, he stretched it out forever before even calling the results of the first poll, which judging from the numbers, was samefagged by metalguys, or the light guys were just slow on the ball. Note that the first poll still had the problem of the self-cancelling votes.

Finally, as a PR thing, he didn't seem to care that people were getting mad and upset over it. There were plenty of things done wrong.

>>27532443
>>27532438 here. Again, it's not really the results everyone is rustled about, it's the process and execution. If it was always going to be up for a roll archelon should have called for best/average of 3 or 5 before the selection process, and then based upon the results of those rolls posted what options were available to us.

The point being to have the randomness done BEFORE the choice, not after. If a choice was selectable, it should be attainable with nothing but a majority vote.

he said at the start if darkness or light was picked that a roll would be needed due to how rare they are and if it failed it would go to the number two pick

It was poorly designed, and relied on dice rolls even after a majority consensus was formed, only to ignore the prime-majority and then settle on the largest minority.

Option 1) You are, nominally, a person of normalish behavior who is being stand offish and cunty because you "won," and someone "lost," having the ability to empathize but choosing to ignore to.

2 reasons
1 some sad fucks on suptg actively down vote quest threads because they are that autistic and
2 not a lot of people actually up vote on suptg, only people who either archive it, come in late or reread threads go to suptg and up vote
>>
As always the QM has done a great job tonight, both in his quest posts and ignoring the faggotry begging for attention.

This thread has been the worst in the series though, due in no part to the QM, because of the swarm of counterproductive assholes who are more interested in bitching at people playing than playing themselves. Hopefully they'll stop being butthurt because the QM did the right thing and ignored them and stuck to the game's rules by tonights thread so we can have another rocking time.

So i just woke up, and why do people see a problem with the dice roll(when he said there was gonna be one) if people wanted metal and it was the second most voted element?
>>
>>27532773
there can be no logical answer to that, since it is a stupid thing to do. they are just doing, because reasons.
>>
>>27532773
Because
1.) We didn't know the DC on the dice roll, and the light stampede started after a nat 20 on a Light based roll.
2.) Light had the majority, which was discarded entirely because of a dice roll.
3.) Even if Light failed the roll, it should still have been a Light subelement, since Light was the majority leader
4.) Anyone who voted light ended up having no actual impact, which is worse than just losing the vote. It's winning and having it taken from you when you should have just picked something else.
>>
>>27532745
>he has got to retcon this entire experience to get a fresh start.

>>
>>27532783
Rules were not fine. It has been pointed out how the poll was flawed to begin with. They were slanted in a way to make one waste a vote. To begin with, there were too many possible choices, in my opinion, so that even if there wasn't dice based madness, a slim lead could have easily decided everything for a large group.

>Whatever wins will be his type, though a diceroll will be required if you pick Light or Darkness. If it fails, the second-highest vote will win.

I don't see the issue, if their the rarest their should be some difficulty to it. The nat 20 doesn't mean shit as the dumbass rolled when there wasn't a roll asked for.
>>
>>27532786
Iron sand to boot.
>>
>>27532782
>1.) We didn't know the DC on the dice roll, and the light stampede started after a nat 20 on a Light based roll.
He said it was rare so it was fare to assume that it would be high.
>2.) Light had the majority, which was discarded entirely because of a dice roll.
He siad that the Dice roll would decide if you had the extra rare element of light.
>3.) Even if Light failed the roll, it should still have been a Light subelement, since Light was the majority leader
There wasn't that many votes for any other element and people wanted to be extra special.
>4.) Anyone who voted light ended up having no actual impact, which is worse than just losing the vote. It's winning and having it taken from you when you should have just picked something else.
You guys did have an impact of getting chance to get it, if it wasn't for the bad luck you guys could have gotten the element
>>
>>27532804
The issue is that the majority vote can be (and was) ignored and wasted, which is not how a poll should be run. Nobody really wanted fire, wind, or lightning, but saying you get one of those things if the Light roll fails would still uphold the majority's vote for Sun Elements.

The problem is that, essentially, you had a safer bet telling your opposition to vote for a rare element and shooting for second-place with whatever you wanted.
>>
>>27532826
Are you sure people who voted for light wanted those elements anon?
>>
>>27532803
>how the poll was flawed to begin with

Sorry that every vote and poll on /tg/ is inherently flawed due to anonymity and same faging.

>>27532826
People would have bitch if we got fire, wind, lighting, or so on cause not as many wanted it as metal.
>>
>>27532821
>He said it was rare so it was fare to assume that it would be high.
But we didn't know how high, on what dice, how many dice, and so on. There were some who thought, clearly, that the roll had already been made.
>He siad that the Dice roll would decide if you had the extra rare element of light.
>There wasn't that many votes for any other element and people wanted to be extra special.
This isn't a point.
>You guys did have an impact of getting chance to get it, if it wasn't for the bad luck you guys could have gotten the element
There was zero impact. None. Simply rolling for rare to begin with and then voting on normal stuff means everyone's votes would have mattered, as a counterpoint.

>>27532841
>>27532846

If you wanted Light, that meant you wanted to be good with all of those elements. That's what that trait does. Rolling Light would have meant you were fire and wind and lightning and some other stuff.
>>
>>27532858
>If you wanted Light, that meant you wanted to be good with all of those elements. That's what that trait does. Rolling Light would have meant you were fire and wind and lightning and some other stuff.
No it didn't it meant that everything is cheaper and that light magic spells were super cheap.
>>
>>27532846
>Sorry that every vote and poll on /tg/ is inherently flawed due to anonymity and same faging.
But that has nothing to do with the poll not reflecting the majority, even with the anti-samefag measures. You were literally better off by shooting for second place and goading your opponents into trying for something rare, which happened. We don't need metagame bullshit in voting.
>>
>>27532870
>"I already explained how affinities work in regards to casting spells, so... that's pretty much it as far as that goes," she says, clapping her hands together. "Oh yeah. Umm... Light and Darkness are the rarest affinities to have, and people with them have a bonus on magical energy expenditure for the category that they're in. So Light users use less energy for Sun-type spells, and Darkness users use less for Moon-type ones."

Which is the same thing as being good at multiple elements. The rare elements were a chance to be a dilettante, instead of just having one thing. So instead of the majority just losing their vote, you roll a random element from that category
>>
>>27532826
No, i vote for light but didnt want any of those, i am sure many other people wouldnt want those too, just like me. A vote for a light was a vote for a light, not for another sun based affinity.

>Want the special super rare power
>Fail to get it
>Get what most people want out of the ordinary ones

This was the action taken, this was the better way to go about it.

if he randomly picked any of the other sun elements, he would be picking something almost nobody want and that would be ridiculous and there would a dozen people shitting the thread instead of two people too thick to understand the situation and actions taken.
if he called for another vote to see what people would want since the light didnt win, there would be too much voting and it would be utterly pointless since it was clear the metal would be the winning one among normal sub-elements.
>>
>>27532919
>two people
Excuse me, good sir, but I stayed mostly out of it because I was uninterested in magic to begin with. Moving on.

>if he randomly picked any of the other sun elements, he would be picking something almost nobody want
Light was all the other Sun Elements in one Element. If you voted Light, you wanted all of them. For failing the roll, you get a consolation prize of one of them. Not hard logic.
>>
>>27532932
>Light was all the other Sun Elements in one Element. If you voted Light, you wanted all of them. For failing the roll, you get a consolation prize of one of them. Not hard logic.
But if i dont get light, then i dont want any other of the light elements. its as simple as that. and i am sure this is the case for a lot of other people

again, if we had taken another vote excluding light and darkness, metal would clearly win, it was what most people wanted excluding super rare powers and it was chosen. simple.
>>
>>27532919
See >>27532893
Light is literally Sun Category, the Element. It makes no sense to skip to something completely different because the roll failed. You guys chose to grab for the entire Sun Category, gambled, and failed. The reasonable answer is that you just get one random element from that list.
>>
>>27532953
Light led the majority by a lot, so it's pretty clear that one Light element would have been picked had everyone been voting on individual light elements. I'm not sure where you get this whole "simple" thing from, but stop it, because your logic is not simple. It's convoluted.
>>
>>27532932
>For failing the roll, you get a consolation prize of one of them. Not hard logic.
Then it invalidates everyone vote who did not vote for the element decided. The logical thing to do would be have everyone vote on which Sun element there by ignoring the people who voted for Metal. Anyway he could have done it we still have people moaning and bitching.
>>27532964
They gambled and failed so they get second place which was metal.
>>
>>27532964
you guys argue this...

>majority wants light
>vote fail
>metal get picked (which is now what majority wants since we cant have light and darkness super powers)
>*cry* majority vote was disregarded. shitretardfag.

you see the hypocrisy in there?
>>
>>27532976
No, it does not invalidate the Light voters, because, again, Light is all the Sun Elements. There would have been a partial victory for those who voted Light, since they had at least a partial interest in those elements.
>>
>>27532981
again, ' Light is all the Sun Elements' does not mean people who voted for light would choose one of the sun elements when they cant have light.
>>
>>27532978
Hypocrisy isn't even the right word here. Do you know how to use that word?

Metal was not the majority. The Majority was Fire, Wind, Lighting, and whatever else was there. Otherwise known as Light, which is the all-of-the-above option. Since we could not do all of the above, we just get one of the above.
>>
>>27532992
I argue that the majority of them would, because that's what you're looking to get Light for. Furthermore, the majority is still being honored by selecting from one of the possible elements they tried for, because the majority can at least be partially satisfied.
>>
>>27532975
>>27533000
>>27533017

Light didnt led by that large a margin. If they had to choose something else, light people would choose one of the many other sub-types. their votes would be spread, some would probably choose metal. While metal votes would only increase. It is obvious metal would be the majority vote.
>>
>>27533022
Light pulled pretty damn far ahead in the initial 5 minutes, which is the only amount of time which suppressed samefagging attempts. Your reasoning is flawed, and I'm not sure on what grounds you're continuing to argue for the poor system.
>>
>>27533000
>Hypocrisy isn't even the right word here. Do you know how to use that word?
yes it is. you say 'majority vote was disregarded' but you want one of the sun element(other than light) be chosen when metal clearly has more votes than all of them, that would actually be 'disregarding majority of votes'.
>>
Metal was my second choice after Light. There is nothing wrong with how things turned out. Light was great because it covered multiple affinities, but if I could only have one it was definitely metal.
>>
>>27533038
That's a baseless and untenable assumption. Light had a clear majority in the early surge, and furthermore, people convinced each other to go for light during the first vote too. With all the evidence you have for your claim, I can have equal evidence to claim that the light voters would have regrouped and formed a majority on a single sun element, and furthermore, those who saw their majority would abandon the least popular elements from other places, like water and darkness.
>>
>>27533059
I voted for metal, but I would have been fine with any Sun Element. If another roll was called, I would have jumped ship.
>>
>>27533063
Same. I was just in metal for shirou faggotry, which was already starting to get old.
>>
>>27533060
>I can have equal evidence to claim that the light voters would have regrouped and formed a majority on a single sun element,

You have a lot of faith in /tg/.
>>
>>27533073
/tg/ goes for whatever they think will get them ahead. Light looks like it has a lot of numbers, so it would just take one guy making some stupid catchphrase (posting solaire or something) to get them to settle on something like lightning or that shit.
>>
>>27533060
>light voters would have regrouped and formed a majority on a single sun element
I dont care all this affinity business. It just means we spend some more/less mp.
But that could never happen. The votes would dispers over other sub elements, including metal. Even though there is no way to prove either of these claims, this is just how it would go 99%.(squeezing percentage out of my ass)
>>
>>27533101
I think what would happen is that many would change their votes. People thinking that metal was a losing proposition would leave metal, people knowing Darkness is going nowhere would pick what looks like a sure bet, and so on.
>>
>>27533111
>People thinking that metal was a losing proposition would leave metal
>option with second most votes
>first option is unattainable
>people start thinking "option with second most votes" starts thinking it is losing.
yeah, NO.
>>
>>27533129
I was ready to give up on metal. The only reason I stuck around was because I was sure the Light Roll was going to fail and my choice would win by default. If that rule wasn't in place, I would have changed.
>>
Man, so much anal devastation over aparently nothing. Early morning /tg/ is the worst /tg/.

Thanks for running, Arch.
