Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are FALYNN STURMFUHRER, a member of the mercenary company Demons of Randgriz and a graduate from its elite TIER ONE Program. You are now part of the elite, but inexperienced WRAITH TEAM, consisting of you and your fellow classmates from training.

After a grueling year of training and quick battle to get rid of some troublesome pirates harassing Gallia's northern coast, you and Wraith Team have found yourselves transferred to the exotic land of San Salvacion, an entire ocean away from Gallia. You've been brought in to help the beleaguered country suppress the rebels that oppose its rule, as well as counter any possible Erusean aggression from the South.

Unfortunately, the action started much sooner than you thought it would when your base was ambushed literally almost the moment you set foot in it. While the attackers were repulsed, the attack has left you and your squad a bit shaken that presumably poorly armed and organized rebels could strike at the heart of San Salvacion's military power in the south so easily.

Unfortunately, it seems the situation is getting more and more complicated as more players in this conflict begin to reveal themselves, such as Emmerian special forces, Imperial weapon smugglers, unscrupulous rival mercs, and more...

>ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL

For possibly the thousandth time, you are busy fretting and regretting ever volunteering for this mission. Why the hell did you even agree to it? You sigh as you look out the window of the Skyranger, flying low and fast through the night as it takes you and the infiltration team across the Erusean border.

Accompanying you is Lucina, Morgan, and Edwin from Wraith Team, as well as Hudson and his Emmerian special forces team. They were all people you knew relatively well and trusted, but it just wasn't the same. This was going to be the first mission you were going to be acting totally indpendent from Charlotte and Lucas, which just made you feel anxious and isolated. You realize just now how much you relied on them to carry through a mission.

Well, it was just you, now. You can't help but wonder what Mom or Dad would do in this situation before you quickly shake the thought out of your head. You weren't supposed to care what they thought, remember? The entire reason you chose to be an Engineer was so you could distance yourselves from them!

Ugh ,you really, REALLY needed to find a way to occupy yourself. It felt like this flight was taking FOREVER.

>Awwww, don't get so caught up about it. I just like messing with you guys from time to time.

Well, you COULD just sit in your seat and replay all those various scenarios that involved Lucas getting hurt in some fashion, but you decide against it in the end since you needed to have a clear head for the mission.

Instead, you slide over to where Edwin was sitting. Edwin was a pretty big meanie, especially to Mary-Kate and a Sparky, and sometimes Charlotte. Not liking Charlotte alone would be enough to earn your eternal ire but he seemed to be pretty good friends with Lucas somehow, so you feelings about him was an odd, ambivalent one.

However, he was polite enough when it came to interacting with you. You figure it was because he at least respected other people with intellect. You guess having encyclopedic knowledge of literally every kind of working machine imaginable was sort of commendable in his eyes, but it honestly wasn't that special. You only knew what you knew, after all.

Edwin himself is busy reading that map he had showed all of you. The one detailing an old copper mine that was supposed to run directly under the Erusean base you were supposed to recon.

"Yes?" Edwin says without even turning his head. How did he even know you were looking?

"Hmmmm, are you sure the mines are going to structurally sound?" You ask him, looking at the map. "That map looks incredibly old."

"Thirty two years, to be exact." Edwin says..

"Uh huh, I figured." You nod. "You do realize those mines could all be collapsed, flooded, or worse, already occupied? That's a LOT of time to account for..."

"There's literally no more historical mention of these mines in any other document or text." Edwin says "That suggests the Eruseans had completely forgotten about them. It also helps that the tunnels are relatively small and narrow since they were dug by hand, so they're not idea for storage or any other application a military base would need."

"Hmmmmm, I hope you're right."

"I usually am." Edwin says with a smug grin.

UGH. Now your ambivalence was starting to creep into mild annoyance. What the hell did Lucas see in him?

"Okay, so if you're so smart, what are the odds of survival on this mission?" You ask.

"Are you sure you want to know?" Edwin narows his eyes.

"Yeah, sure." You shrug.

"Sixty two percent, with a five percent margin of error."

Apart from that, nothing is known about her. I was never able to find out what kind of a person she really was. But whenever they talked about her, they always had a slight smile on their faces. That, perhaps, may be my answer."
>>
>>27576834
Maybe. Depends on the kind of smile. Based on the film coverage thus far, she's going to be talked about. Some will praise her. Others will say it was a stupid risk. I'm pretty sure other airmen will like her a bit more, knowing what she did to save that dude.

"O-oh, I guess that's not as bad as I thought..." You manage to choke those few words out, trying to stop yourself from saying what was REALLY on your mind.

OhgodohgodohgodohgodI'mgonnadie!!!!!

"Oh yes, normally it's around 50% casualty rate." Edwin shrugs.

You slide away and whimper and start to REALLY regret volunteering for this mission.

"Okay, kids, get ready to drop!" You hear Hudson yell and he stands up and hooks his chute.

You all follow his lead, each one of you hooking up your chutes and checking the gear of the soldier in front of you. Then, it's just another waiting game as you wait for that damn light to switch from green to red.

Finally, the light switches and Hudson starts pushing his team out one by one. Once you reach the door, you look down and take a deep breath. Hopefully things won't end up like the last time you paradropped in.

You close your eyes and jump.

Fortunately, unlike last time, you actually manage to land where you're supposed to AND stick the landing, albeit somewhat awkwardly, considering all the extra gear you're carrying. The rest of the team seems to land without any serious issues, either.

"Okay, we've only got a few hours of darkness to cover us, so we need to get into that mine pronto." Hudson hisses as you all rendezvous at the edge of the clearing you landed in. "Edwin, where's the nearest entrance?"

"There's one right in the jungle here." Edwin says. "Follow me."

You all quietly follow Edwin until he stops in his tracks.

"Right here." He whispers.

You pull out a flashlight and shine it to where he's pointing. Sure enough, there seems to be some kind of thick stone slab in the middle of the jungle floor, no doubt to cap the entrance to prevent people from stumbling into it.

"We got to move it." Hudson says. "Falynn, you have any ideas?"

You try pushing down on the pry bar, but neither the bar or the stone cap would move. You try again, pushing down harder, but still it refuses to budge.

This... this makes no sense! You had it all planned out! Just a simple application of lever and...

Oh god, everybody was looking at you now, looking at you and thinking you were a big failure. Oh god, if you only you could just curl up into a little ball and just DIE.

This time... this time it works. Whether it was because you put more strength to it or it was because your previous attempts loosened it up, you finally manage to shift the stone cap. The rest of the team grabs the edge and flips the cap over and off the entrance with a loud but muffled WHUMP and it falls onto the jungle dirt.

And now you're staring down a very deep, very DARK hole. Your regret immediately intensifies.

"Huh, okay, we're going to need to make sure that tunnel is structurally intact." Mason says, peering down.

"And not booby trapped, either." Woods spits.

"Falynn, are you okay with going up front?" Hudson asks, turning to you. "If not, I can ask Lucina or Chequita to take point."

"Yeah, I'll do it." You nod as you carefully slide your way into the hole. It's tight and cramped. So tight that you can't even aim your assault rifle effectively, so you stow it away, relying only on your wrench and handgun for protection.

You carefully creep down the tunnel, flashlight shining as you try to spot anything out of the ordinary.

Fortunately, nothing seems to be too out of the ordinary. There's no indication of any traps, and the tunnel itself looks structurally sound, at least in this area. It was only when you started getting deeper in that problems, if there were any, would become more evident.

Sliding your way through the tunnels seems to take an entire eternity. However, you come to crossroads and stop in your tracks.

"Edwin, does this crossroad show up on your map?" You ask.

"Yes." You hear a rustling of paper. "The path up ahead will take us straight inside the base. The left one will have us come right outside, and the right one actually goes deeper into the mine."

"Well, we've got a problem, then." You frown. "The path up ahead is flooded, the path to the left is collapsed, and the right one seems clear."

"Can you do anything about it?" Hudson asks.

"Ugh...." You sigh as you move to the flooded tunnel. It didn't look too bad, it was probably only waist high at most, but you can't tell what it would be like further down the tunnel. You take a look at the water, and see that it's relatively clean and clear. This could mean either one of two things. Either this flooding was very recent, or the tunnel was intersecting with some sort of underground river, which was creating a current that cycled out the water to keep it from going stagnant. Not exactly ideal to be jumping in to...

Well, there was only one way to find out if the tunnel was safe to cross or not...

"I'm going to scout out the flooded tunnel. Maybe we'll be lucky and it'll just be waist deep the whole way." You say. "Lucina, take this."

You pull out a rope and toss one end to Lucina. You hook the other to your harness. Safety first, after all.

"If I tug at the line three or more times that's the signal to pull, okay?"

"Got it." Lucina nods.

You take a deep breath and step into the flooded tunnel. A chill goes up your spine when you realize the water down here was FREAKING COLD. Trying to keep your teeth from chattering, you press on into the tunnel...

You decide it's no good. Not only is there no guarantee you'd be able to make it to the other side, assuming there was one, but the water was freezing and you were already starting to feel numb. You quickly wade your way back to the crossroads.

"N-no go." You stutter as your teeth are still chattering from the freezing water. "We going t-to have to try a-another tunnel."

Looking at the caved in tunnel, you know that there's no way to clear it by hand. You'd have to use explosives on it, which had a whole set of risks associated with it as well.

You take a deep deep breath. The flooded tunnel was no good, and neither was the caved in one. Not if you didn't want to risk caving in the whole damn mine on yourselves. And you were too far in to turn back now.

That only left one alternative.

"I-I guess we take the third tunnel..." You mumble.

Surprisingly enough, the third tunnel was surprisingly more spacious, as if it had been widened out and constructed differently from the mine. Soon enough, you end up in a massive, underground chamber, a really big one.

"That's strange..." Edwin frowns. "There's a chamber here, but the map says it should still only be a tunnel."

Well, that wasn't good.

Suddenly, there hear a screeching, ear piercing scream that echoes throughout the chamber. Everybody immediately draws their weapons to try and trace the source of it, but the sound echoes around the chamber. You see something flitting about in the darkness. Swinging your flashlight around, you can only catch a brief glimpse of something extremely pale, with a faint blue glow shoot past your vision before it's gone again.

"Edwin, where's the exit?" Hudson asks, gripping his SMG tightly.

"That one." Edwin points to a tunnel to the right.

"Okay everybody, let's move slowly and carefully-"

And then suddenly you feel something drop right on top of you, scratching and biting at your armor.

You shriek and surprise as you instinctively grab your wrench and smack at whatever is attacking you. Wherever you hit, it's effective, and it causes the thing to fall off. You quickly back off and shine your flashlight on it and gasp in horror.

It was an emaciated, yet powerful looking person, dressed in rags. Well, it MOSTLY looked like a person. What unnerved you was that its eyes and veins were glowing blue like ragnite ore. Was... was this thing even human?

Well, the others didn't care as the first thing they did was blast it, muzzle flashes and gunfire echoing throughout the chamber as they did so. Thankfully, it seemed whatever that thing was could still be killed by bullets... you just needed a lot of them.

"What... what the fuck is that thing?!" Woods croaks.

"Hmmm...." Edwin kneels down and presses his fingers into one of the thing's wounds. His fingers then come out covered in blood that was glowing blue. "It seems to be something ragnite related."

"Shit, this is worse than I thought." Hudson breathed. "I guess the rumors were true."

"So this thing is...?" Lucina blinks.

"One of the failures." Hudson scowls. "I guess rather than waste the bullets he just dumped them all into the mine to die."

"Ummm, I don't want to spoil the mood," Chequita says, pointing behind you, "But I don't think it was the only one..."

You turn and see three more of the things, or more accurately, their blue eyes glowing in the darkness, all staring at you.

"W-what do they want with me?" You gulp.

"Ragnite!" Edwin whispers. "You're carrying extra ragnaids, and I think that's what's attracting them!"

You REALLY didn't want to be wasting your ragnaids. Those things were absolutely precious, especially if one of your teammates got hurt. What would you do then?

Then you get an idea. You quickly grab one of the many, MANY rolls of duct tape you carry on you and tape a frag grenade to one of your ragnaids. You'll sadly have to sacrifice one for the greater good.

"F-frag out!" You cry.

Your impromptu ragnaid bomb sails over the heads the three pairs of eyes, and much to your relief, they all begin to track your little booby trap.

What instantly kills that relief, however, is that many MANY more bright blue eyes open up in the darkness.

"Go go go! Let's get the hell out of here!" Hudson says, pushing you towards the exit. "We'll cover you, Falynn! They're after you, so we'll hold them off!"

Nodding absentmindedly, you sprint up the tunnel. Judging from the upward angle, it's definitely the exit Edwin pointed out, but, just like the other entrance, you see that it's blocked off by a thick stone cap. Now you realize why they went through so much trouble to seal these mines...

"Falynn! Is it clear up there?!" You hear Lucina yell.

This wasn't good. You all had you backs to the wall. You needed to do something...

Unfortunately, you didn't have time to waste on being fancy or clever here. You reach into your pack and grab a shaped charge, which should be powerful enough to punch through the cap. You press the charge against the cap with some duct tape, set the fuse, and dash back down the tunnel to take cover.

"FIRE IN THE HOLE!" You scream.

The shaped charge explodes outwards, shattering the cap and giving you a way out. You dash out first with the rest of the team following close behind. You look back and see that the damn things are still following you out!

You fumble a bit, but manage to complete the custom charge, and in the nick of time, too. You doubt the others could hold off the oncoming horde of creatures piling out of the tunnel.

"Fire in the hole!" You yell as you pull the arming pin and toss the bomb into the mount of the tunnel. The resulting explosion causes the ground to rumble and the tunnel collapses like house of cards, crushing most of the hapless creatures and trapping the rest.

"Oh my god!" Morgan sighs as she slumps against a tree. "I am never, EVER going into a mine or cave AGAIN."

"I'll second that." Mason nods.

"I didn't see what was so bad about it." Lucina frowns.

"Quiet!" Hudson hisses. "You hear that?"

You all go silent, and sure enough, you can hear the sound of heavy boot stomps approaching. Instinctively, all of you dash into the jungle to hide.

And just then, you see a quartet of four heavily armed and armored soldiers. Imperials, not Eruseans, approach the mine entrance.

"What the fuck happened here?" One of the soldiers looks at what is left of the tunnel entrance.

"Huh, looks like the tunnel collapsed." Another soldier shrugs.

"Could've sworn I heard an explosion." The third one says insistently.

"Jenkins, you think EVERYTHING sounds like an explosion."

"Should we call this in?" The first one asks.

"Eeeeeehhhhh." The soldier obviously in charge frowns. "Well, the tunnel's still secure. I don't see any point worrying the General over it."

"Just go on ahead. You're better off without me." You mumble. "I'm just going to screw everything up again."

"What?" Lucina blinks.

"I've done nothing but screw everything up for everyone." You sniff. "I made myself look stupid trying to lift that stone cap. I led you all into those monsters in the mine.I nearly screwed up the mission just now."

"Hey! Lucina! Falynn! What's going on?!" Hudson calls out.

"Umm, just go on ahead! Falynn twisted her ankle, but it's nothing a touch of ragnaid won't fix!" Lucina calls back.

"Well, hurry it up! We're moving out!"

"Falynn, listen to me." Lucina frowns. "You've done the best anybody in your position would have done. You're our squad engineer, Falynn. We wouldn't have gotten this far without you."

"B-but what about the mine?" You sniff.

"We would've gone in anyways, and we would've been trapped in that chamber because we didn't have the explosives to breach that tunnel." Lucina says.

"But-"

And that's when Lucina slaps you in the face. Well, more like a punch. Slapping was not exactly something her parents taught her to do. You relel back in shock as stars explode across your vision.

"Y-you hit me!" You whimper.

"And I'll do it again if you're going to act like a spoiled child." Lucina frowns. "Would you ever act like this around Charlotte or Lucas? What would they think if they saw you like this now?"

You stay silent, rubbing your hurt cheek as you contemplate how to answer that question.

"Look, Falynn," Lucina continues, "I may not be Lucas or your sister, but I'm your friend, too. You can't be afraid to ask for help, all right?"

You nod silently.

"Good. Now come on." She helps you back up to your feet. "This mission still isn't over and I have a feeling we're going to need our engineer to pull us through, okay?"

"Okay." You mumble, not quite convinced. But, it wasn't as if Lucina was going to let you sit here by yourself anyways, so you might as well go along.

You and Lucina rendezvous with the rest of the team, who have taken position on top of a rather large hill overlooking the base. You almost fail to notice a pair of dead Erusean sentries. Almost.

Meanwhile, both Hudson and Morgan were scoping out the base with a set of binoculars and a sniper scope respectively You take out a set of binoculars and look over the base as well. What you see is... pretty daunting.

The base was less of a base and more of a massive parking lot for countless tanks, planes, and assorted vehicles, all Imperial in origin.

"Holy crap, this isn't just some weapons smuggling ring." Mason gasps. "It's a full fucking blown invasion force!"

"Looks like it." Hudson nods grimly.

"Twenty bucks says that this isn't even the only base like this." Woods grumbles. "Gotta be a whole chain of em along the border."

"And now we know why the Eruseans have been so aggressive as of late." Hudson sighs. "The Imps are backing them up with serious hardware."

"But what would they have to gain?" Morgan asks. "They're an entire ocean away."

"If I had to guess, ragnite mining." Edwin says. "If I recall correctly, Erusea has quite a number of offshore ragnite deposits, but doesn't have the capability of reaching them. It's so simple. The Imperials come in and build mining platforms, and in return they give the Eruseans war surplus."

"Pretty damn devious." Mason nods.

"So what do we do about this?" Lucina asks.

(cont)
>>
>>27580715
"We report this, of course." Hudson takes out a camera and takes several pictures. "Unfortunately, we need harder proof than this. Taking a picture of a parking lot won't prove anything. We're actually going to have to grab intel from the base."

Hudson glances at his team, and then at yours.

"We're going to split into two teams. One's going to be the infiltration team, the other is going to provide overwatch."

We might as run away from those screaming until air assets arrive. But still, when it was introduced the T-64 was pretty much the most advanced tank of its time, it's easily sufficient to wreck our shit.
>>

T-80s are much scarier. Those will kill anything on the ground. Anything. T-72s are beaten by NATO tanks. T-80s, not so much.
>>
>>27580723
Despite your better judgement, you decide to join up with the infiltration team, which would consist of Hudson's team, Lucina, and you. Morgan and Edwin would stay behind on the hill to provide covering fire and intel.

Since time was of the essence, you couldn't afford to wait until night time to come again. You were going in now. Fortunately, the perimeter is loose and only patrolled by Erusean soldiers, who weren't nearly as disciplined or as trained as Imps, and they are easily dispatched or avoided. However, the problem comes when you get inside the base proper.

"Okay." Hudson whispers as he peeks around a parked tank. "We're going to hit the command center, grab whatever we can, and then bug out. We'll need a distraction in order to draw their attention away. Falynn, you think you can handle that?"

"Y-yeah." You nod, not entirely certain you were telling the truth.

"Good. I'll leave it to you discretion. Now, I'd rather I get every man I can to assault that command center, but I can spare someone to accompany you if necessary."

"I can do it alone." You say. Well, at the very least, if you screwed up, only you would have to pay the price.

"Okay." Hudson nods. "I'm sure you can create something big enough to let us know when to go in."

"Of course." You nod.

You already had your eyes on a rather large ragnite fuel storage tank at one end of the base. Ragnite fuel always made for good distractions, especially when provided with a proper ignition source.

As Hudson's team moves off to get into position, you prepare to move out to get to that fuel tank. All you have to do is get through several rows of tanks undetected.

You manage to navigate the first rows easily enough. There's not a lot of guards out, and the few that are are easily called out by Morgan so you have plenty of advance warning.

However, as you round a parked tank, you stumble straight into a guard. Actually, it's freaking Jenkins from last time. It looked like he was just trying to find a hiding place to no doubt relax away from the eyes of his commanding officers. You both sort of eye each other awkwardly for several brief seconds.

"Oh, okay then." Jenkins shrugs. "You don't mind if I take a nap here, do I?"

"Actually, I'm probably going to have to report you. Maybe you should uh, try taking a nap over there." You point to the other side of the base.

"Oh, alright. Thanks, miss!" Jenkins gives you the most obliviously happy smile before running off.

This was getting to be a very weird day.

Remembering you had a job to do, you quickly get to work. You wire a sizeable charge to the fuel tank and set a timer on it to give you enough time to get clear. You take cover behind a rather huge, double barreled tank and cover your ears.

The resulting explosion shakes the entire base as a huge plume of blue fire flares up in the sky, showering countless buildings, vehicles, and people with flaming fuel. Confident it was enough of a distraction for the infiltration team, you turn to make you retreat but you smash into what feels like a brick wall and you're sent falling back. You look up to see what you ran into, and your stomach drops.

Standing above you is what has to be one of the biggest and most intimidating Imperial men you had ever seen in your life.

"Well well well. You've been a very naughty girl" Man gives a sadistic grin and cracks his knuckles. "And naughty girls should be punished."

This is an artist's depiction of Kravchenko at this moment

I like where this is going.

Will there be rape basements too? I like those.

Rape Factory
>>
Morgan is on overwatch, right? I hope she'll help us by blowing his head off.
>>
>>27582365
>Morgan
>Hitting things

Maybe her near miss will distract him.

But he'll probably be too busy raping to notice.

Is it possible Kravchenko actually has tea parties with little girls?

It is certainly possible.
>>
I don't like where this is going!
>>
>>27583025
Nobody does. Except Kravchenko.
>>
>>27581287
Ah well. Bye Fal, at least you did your job this time.
>>
>>27581351
Hey buddy, that's MY shtick.
>>
This is pretty unlikely, but do you think Jenkins will help us because of his personal belief?
>>
>>27583690
>implying Jenkins wouldn't just get killed quickly and horribly if he goes against Kravchenko.
>>
>>27583778
Maybe, but it could be a distraction just long enough for us to get the hell out of there.
>>
>>27581436
>>27583778
Is Jenkins a virgin?
>>
>>27583874
Assuming he's just a rookie idealist who wanted to help people by being a soldier, my thoughts say, yes.
>>
>>27583894

And the Fal will go back to basecamp, a wreck after witnessing an enemy soldier sacrificing his own life to save her.
>>
>>27584009
Maybe it doesn't end that way, but it seems the most likely possibility. I assume Jenkins would stay to receive punishment rather than desert and come along with us.
>>
>>27584009

Gonna need lucas to come see her again. Since she can't open up to char about this, me thinks.

>>27584056

he'll be dead.
>>
>>27583690
Jenkins' belief seems to be 'I believe I need a nap'.

>nice lady tried told me to take a nap away from here so i don't get caught
>Woken up by explosions
>Nice lady is being accosted by big dangerous man
>Must save nice lady

Shit. His thought processes if this scenario holds true are like those of a dog.
>>
>>27584131
He's kind of...dense. The kind of guy who's like Johnny from the MGS series. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

>>27584162
You, I like his train of thought. Can we please keep him?
>>
>>27584189

He'll need to get schooled first.
>>
>>27584189
If we both get out of this shit alive then yes, we can.
>>
>>27584162
> "Well the reason why I attacked my superior officer was because he was preventing a maintenance lady from fixing the tanks, which were really needed because there was a huge explosion in the base, meaning we were being attacked. Kravchenko on the other hand, decided that it was more important to have his frustrations relieved rather than having the tanks serviceable."
