New thread because the previous one is unsalvageable. Seriously, you guys. Tone it down.
>>
"No, they're my... -associates- from work," you say coldly. "The one with silver hair is Nicolette, the one with the glasses is Sylie, and..." you wave at Melanie to come on over, "...this is Melanie."
"...sorry for invading your privacy, man..." Nicolette replies, looking -very- guilty. "Sylvie decided to rush in when your friend here hugged you, and I was kind of curious myself. It was still kind of a really shitty thing to do though, so I apologize."
"Y... yeah, sorry..." Sylvie says, looking like she's about to cry.

Seeing the current unpleasant atmosphere, you take a long sigh.

"Ummm, nice to meet you all!" Citrine chirps. "I'm Citrine, and me and Reinhold here go waaay back. This guy was like a little brother to me... but then he ran off and joined the army, the jerk," she taps your arm playfully. "The boss was SO pissed off after you left, he used to get shitfaced every night and go on about how he was totally going to leave the place to you when he finally croaked..."

>how do you respond?

"What? No way, that old bastard? Kinda find that hard to believe."

"Wow, he really thought that much of me. It was hard to tell sometimes. Ah, well, lets not make this too bitter of a reunion! You look as if life is treating you well, how are you these days?"

>"Makes me feel a little bad for leaving, although I'd do it again. So how did you end up here?"

"Oh wow. Never suspected she had that in her. Still, I prefer this line of work."

To the girls: "Happy now? Ah well, I suppose you have right to know."

What's in the open can't bite us in the ass at most inopportune of times.

used to like these threads when you were starting out, most of it has turned into autism and stupidity unfortunately. i like what you're trying to do, but damn it is not worth reading through all this shit and having some sperg response be the one chosen (not that this one was, but it has happened multiple times in the past). keep on writing man, but fuck me if this quest is starting to let me down.

OP, was Reinhold molested by Spinelle as a kid? Funny as that may be OOC to some, that shit is extremely traumatizing for a kid.

Also, it sounds like we planned to go to the army, but kept it a secret and left on short notice?

Your reading comprehension needs work. She didn't say the guy was dead but that WHEN he died he wanted to leave the brothel to Rein.
>>
>>27636883
We did go to the army. Probably when we were 14 or 13, depending on our growth. Spent a few years there, then won the tourney.

"Seems like he did care a bit. I guess maybe I ought to visit some time, but I can't say I really want to."
>>
"...wait, what?" you stare at Citrine as if she's just lost her mind.
"Yeah, that was my reaction," Citrine replies, shrugging. "But he -was- really depressed after you left, so I guess he did care about you at least a little bit."
"I kind of find that hard to believe," you reply, rolling your eyes.
"Eh, I totally get how you feel. It's still great to see that you're doing this well, though. You could barely lift that thing when you got it," she points to your sword, "but here you are, winning national tourneys and shit!"
"Heh, it is kind of hard to believe," you reply.

"Uh, so what brings you all the way out here?" you ask.
"It sounds crazy..." Citrine says, grinning. "...but I am now an honest woman!"

Citrine shows you her hand, revealing a rather fancy wedding ring.

"A guy used to come in regularly and use me as a model for his paintings..." che says happily, "...and he ended up falling for my 'rustic charm' and actually ending up proposing to me! And now here I am, the wife of a fancy high-class artist!"

>what do you say?
>>
>>27636905
Hope that was a joke on your part, since it's obvious he didn't like it.

His step-father sounds a bit complicated. Felt feelings for Reinhold, but was a violent alcoholic. Both points don't negate either.

It was already established, that Sylvie has good potential for yandere.

Well, yeah, but fuck those guys. Besides, "one of the good ones", if she really feels like it might be an insult (and doesn't hate the others) then she'll just rationalise it as "me and my friends were the good ones."

She's a whore, a prostitute, in a dank and dim world of pastely grey tones, she probably has a pretty damn thick skin.

"That's a nice ring..." Melanie says, staring at it.
"Oh, wow. I'm glad you made it out of there," you say, giving a genuine smile.
"So am I!" Citrine replies, grinning widely. "Also..."
"Also?"
"I'm going to have a baby!"

You stare at Citrine in disbelief.

"Yup! Just found out the other day!" Citrine says, patting her stomach.
"...congratulations..." you reply, unsure how to react.
"I was thinking that if it's a boy, I'd name him after my favorite little guy..."
"Wha-"
"So he'd be Reinhold Lanzmann!"
"You're not serious, right?"

Upon hearing that last name, Melanie's eyes grow wide with surprise.

"Lanzmann... you wouldn't be married to Marius Lanzmann, would you?" she asks.
"Yup! He's kind of weird, but still a great guy!" Citrine replies happily.
"What, you know him?" Nicolette asks.
"He's famous... -very- famous," Melanie replies excitedly. "His paintings have been auctioned off for huge amounts of money."

Actually, that brings up a point.

A jealous painter might conceivably just shame us because of our drawing skills and make a funny caricature to be spread around.

No. Mostly his interactions with the girls - he shows absolutely no attraction for them, and doesn't act as though it's even potential, besides jokes which do more to rule it out than imply it's the case. At the same time, he's acted a bit attracted to both Takamaru and arguably Arnaud. Not to say that it's not just respect, especially in the latter case, but it looks like a bit more to me.

With that, Citrine waves goodbye to you and hurries off down the street.

"Um... I'm really sorry to invade your privacy like that..." Sylvie says to you guiltily.

"Oh yeah, you did mention that," Nicolette replies. "Well, we might as well get going..."

You then wander around until you reach a more familiar area of the city. From there, you quickly find your destination, Wilhelm Bakery. You hold the door open for the girls and then enter behind them, and see an unfamiliar face behind the counter.

"Oh, Mrs. Wilhelm isn't in today?" you ask the gruff-looking man who is sitting behind the counter.
"You know my wife, young man?" he asks you, stroking his beard. "She's resting upstairs since she just gave birth the other day."

That's not a huge surprise, considering that she was VERY pregnant when you saw her.

"Are they doing alright?" you ask.
"Yeah, the baby's waking us up in the middle of the night, just like the midwife said," Mr. Wilhelm replies, sighing. "But that's the price you pay for having kids, I guess... so, were you just checking in on the missus, or would you like to buy something?"

It's not a grudge. It's a paradigm shifting event.

Reinhold isn't mad, he's just disappointed he can't get a minute of privacy when he asks for it. Shouldn't a Guard Captain and ...whatever it is Sylvie's position is (not to mention both of them being royalty) be held to a higher standard of conduct?
>>

>>27638853
They're teenage women man, what do you expect?
>>

Then again, Reinhold has been pretty controlled during this encounter, no need to make him passive aggressive over it now.

We did just finish having Nicol spilling her beans somewhat unwillingly and they apologized so we should just call it even.
>>
>>27638821

At what cost?

If it's something like undermining command by example in a pitched battle, then it might be worth damaging one's relationships to stay alive.

But we're nowhere near such desperate straits. No one got hurt, our history is the only thing that got exposed, and hell, we've done the exact same thing to them by asking about Nicolette's background.
>>
>>27638865
Not being shitty, basically? As a captain of the guard you'd think Nicolette would have a modicum of patience and respect, and Sylvie should know better than to fuck with someone's private life after knowing Nicolette and Marianne.

Sylvie and Nicolette are incapable of not-talking, and it's not like they're compelled to inform Reinhold of anything. Running thirty feet to intercept a hug is on a way different level.

I'm not suggesting we freeze or lock them out. I'm just disappointed they can't keep it in their pants. Why not simply ask AFTER we were done talking? Interrupting was hardly necessary. "Heh, I almost forgot about that," you say, and then turn to the girls. "Hey, do any of you want anything?"
"Eh? You're actually asking us?" Nicolette asks.
"Yeah, why not," you reply.
"...you're not mad at us?" Sylvie asks.
"Nah, let's just let that go," you sigh. "So, do you want anything, or not?"
"I could go for some donuts..." Nicolette says.
"Um, that sounds nice," Melanie joins in.
"So that's donuts for three of us... what about you, Sylvie?"
"...donuts..." she mumbles.

With that out of the way, you turn to Mr. Wilhelm.

"I guess I'll have a dozen..." and then you remember how much Nicolette and Sylvie eat, "...let's make that -two- dozen donuts, and, um... do you know what Marie likes? I'd like to get a box of stuff for her too."
"Oh, so you're Marie's friend!" Mr. Wilhelm says with a warm smile. "She always gets the same thing so I guess I'll go get her usual stuff..."

Mr. Wilhelm then runs to the back to get a couple of boxes, and then proceeds to gather the donuts you asked for and several different kinds of cakes for "Marie."

"Alright, here you go!" Mr. Wilhelm says, placing the boxes on the counter.
"Um-" Sylvie runs to the counter, "I'll be paying for this order!"
"Eh?" you turn to her, "You don't have to do that..."
"No, this is the absolute least I can do to make up for invading your privacy!" she says adamantly as she pulls out her coin purse.
"Uh, if you insist..."

Sylvie then pays for the order and you pick up the boxes.

"Oh yeah, Mr. Wilhelm?" you say.
"What is it, son?" Mr. Wilhelm replies.
"Did you wife have a boy or a girl?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot to say!" he laughs. "I got a son! Lorentz Wilhelm the second! Don't forget to tell Marie, I'm sure she'll be excited to hear!"
"Will do!" you say, smiling. "Congrats on becoming a father!"

I think that'd be a little hamfisted. I don't see Reinhold as being cruel - I'm sure he's picked up at least one serious deviancy/related from the abuse/trauma/etc, but I don't think it'd be cruelty.

I guess we haven't had a real opportunity for it to show itself, so it's not impossible by any stretch, but I don't think he's the one to twist the knife just to twist it.

tl;dr: Rubbing it in hasn't been our style. Let them wallow in their own guilt. Leaf on the wind.

It's not so much that Reinhold wants to know since, as you said, they did it because they wanted to do it and fuck other people, but by asking the question and expecting an answer, Nicolette and Sylvie are forced to think about why they did it - even if that why is "because I wanted to."

It's largely rhetorical.

Since it's getting late, you leave the bakery and head straight for where the carriage dropped you off. As you walk, Nicolette turns to you.

"So... 'Marie?'" Nicolette smiles slyly at you. "What's all that about?"
"She told me to call her that when we're outside the castle," you reply.
"Huh, I didn't know that you two'd already reached the point where you're using pet names..." Nicolette says, nudging your arm. "Isn't that a surprise, Sylvie?"
"Eh!? I- I'm sure that it's completely innocent!" Sylvie stammers.
"Yes, that's the name that the Princess uses when she's out in town," Melanie says, adjusting her glasses.
"Dammit, Melanie..." Nicolette lets out a long sigh. "...you totally ruined my fun..."
"Um, sorry...?" Melanie replies.

You make it to the carriage without incident. Melanie gets in first and takes in the boxes and bags, and then the others enter afterwards.

Before you head into the carriage, you grab one of the donut boxes and open it up.

"Hey, would you like one?" you ask the driver.
"Eh?" he looks at you, completely taken off-guard. "Um... sure. Thanks, man," he says as he takes a donut out of the box and immediately starts eating it. "I can see why you're so popular."

You nod to the driver and then get into the carriage, taking the open seat next to Sylvie.

"Alright, donut time!" Nicolette says as she grabs one donut for herself and hands another to Melanie.
"Thank you, Mr. Reinhold," Melanie says as she starts eating.
"Um... you said that you were going to give those cakes to the Princess?" Sylvie asks.

Although I wouldn't ascribe that much meaning to it.

for one, incessant trolling by "anti-waifufags" have made people cautious of making ANY romantic advances, hence MC's apparent asexuality.

Plus, we don't have to roleplay an american teenage series where everyone fucks with everyone at least once after week's acquaintance.

>>
>>27639582
Man, you guys need to figure out what passive-aggressive is before you start bandying about. Also, simply calling something "certain behavior," (passive-aggressiveness, cuntyness, etc) isn't an argument or a defense - it's just a straw man.

If you want to involve being "passive-aggressive," you need to form an actual argument around it. You can't just shout it out and expect it to mean something.

Anyways, to address the point: I disagree, I don't think it's passive-aggressive. It's not about being mad, or getting back, or making them feel bad - he's had two of the two people that he likes blatantly and flagrantly disregard his desires.

Not cool, bro. He just wants to hang with himself and internalize the day and eat in peace.
>>
>>27639598
Good, that can be brought in too. His characterisation in regards to romance and sex aren't set in stone yet.

Most of our time is taken up by a woman who many consider, understandably so, unwaifuable too. We're still new here and it's not like we haven't had too many chances, and we did well when we have. I figured as much, but it's a bit disconcerting to see what the vocal minority plans for the MC without hearing any opposition, so I wanted to speak my mind.

"Uh..." you turn to Melanie. "What do you think?"
"Hm!?" Melanie quickly finishes eating a donut. "Um, I think it would be best to wait? She would probably be angry if you interrupted her time with her father..."
"Alright, waiting it is," you reply.

The ride back to the castle is uneventful, aside from Nicolette and Sylie pretty much devouring an entire box of donuts on their own before either you or Melanie could start on your second. Just as you finish them all off, the carriage arrives at the castle.

"Today was enjoyable for the most part, thanks for inviting me," Melanie says to Nicolette as she exits the carriage.
"Heh, it was nothing!" Nicolette replies, a wide grin on her face. "I guess I'll have to drag you out again sometime soon..."
"As long as I'm off, sure!"

With that, Melanie hurries into the castle and the carriage moves on to its next stop- Nicolette's house.

Nicolette gazes lazily out of the window as the carriage moves along, and it seems that Sylvie has fallen asleep... you push her off of you when she starts to use your shoulder as a headrest, but the tilt of the road is such that gravity seems to be conspiring against you. Giving up after the fifth time, you instead decide to admire the scenery as Nicolette's house comes into view.

And... wow. It's LARGE. Nowhere near as large as the castle, of course, but it's certainly big enough to be considered a mansion.

A very nice-looking mansion.

The carriage comes to a sudden stop, which wakes Sylvie up. After the usual profuse blushing and fretting over percieved improprieties, you all exit the carriage and approach the front door of Nicolette's mansion.

Or, and this isnt what im advocating, he could just be a little resentful inside and is just trying to ignore it, which would also be pretty normal. Either way, it's something he could just take out on his training if he needs to.

You decide to keep quiet and instead admire the impressive construction of the mansion. Well-groomed shrubbery... a pond with colorful fish swimming around in it... llamas grazing in the distance... and is that a fountain?

"Alright, let's get this over with," Nicolette says as she adjusts the dress bag draped over her shoulder and walks up to the door.

KNOCK KNOCK

"It's Nicolette! I brought some guests, so let me inside already!" Nicolette shouts.
"Okay, be right down!" you hear a muffled female voice from inside say.

After a few seconds, you hear gears in the door shift and the door slowly opens...

...revealing a young lady with the same silver-colored hair as Nicolette.

"Oh, Nico! You've finally come hoooome!!!" she says as she practically tackles Nicolette, sending her dressbag flying. Fortunately, Sylvie seems to have been expecting such a thing to happen, quickly snatching it out of the air.

"Dammit, you don't have to do that every single time..." Nicolette says as she wrestles free of the other girl's grip. "Anyways, I brought Sylvie over, and this here is Reinhold," she says, pointing to you.
"Hi, Sylvie! You're as cute as ever!" the girl says, rustling Sylvie's hair.
"Um, thanks..." Sylvie replies, blushing slightly.
"And what do we have here? You certainly are a handsome one," the girl says as she checks you out.
"Reinhold, meet my mother," Nicolette says with a long sigh.

...wait, this girl is her MOTHER!? She barely looks older than Nicolette!

I don't know if I'll be running tomorrow since I have a test on Wednesday, but we'll see.

>>
>>27640017

That's not a good idea at all. You never know where her murderhobo husbando pops up, for once.

And it would be disrespectful to Nicolette who's really got it all herself.

Although this longevity thing is starting to creep me out. Are we surrounded by vampires, polymorphed dragons or is medical and/or cosmetic magic just so popular among the nobility?
>>
>>27640031

Cheers for the quest, OP, and best of luck with the test! Get some proper sleep and preparation like.
>>
>>27640054
Could you be paranoid about something that could maybe make sense?

Or at least put your tin foil hat back on.
>>
>>27640017
You don't. You just don't.

>>27640015
I didn't say to call her that.

And it matches up. Nicolette doesn't want to reveal her magical origin, the Royal family is known for their connection to Water, her father was said to be an adventurer and met his wife while doing that, which matches Raoul spending most of his time adventuring, Nicolette went out of her way to not name any names when talking about her family and wants to be recognized on her own merits rather then nepotism which really fits her father being the King's brother. She is childhood friends with Sylvie and Marianne, both of whom are also related to the royal family. Considering what we've heard of Raoul and that Nicolette's personality was said to be a lot like her father's it all fits together pretty well.

It might be something else, but signs are pointing towards this.
>>
You an cool bro OP
>>
>>27640017
You just come clean and say it.
>>
>>27640080
Or, maybe, like us, she wants to keep that all private?

ps, the mother is the adventurer, the father is the noble.

Guys. Guys. Guys.
Nicolette's MOM is the adventurous murderhobo. Her dad is the royalty.
>>
>>27639965
"Mother? I though you two might've been twins. It's nice to meet you, your estate seems really lovely."
>>
>>27640098

>>27640089
You. I like your style.
>>
>>27640102
...but he's not.
>>
>>27640090
>>27640098

Dad implied to be the king's older brother then spend all his time adventuring. Nicol and the princess are cousins, Sylvie a 2nd cousin to them, at least that's what I gleaned.

Or is Sir Gregory. Im calling it. "Somehow they got married". The disbelief Sir Gregory would marry her is astronomical, plus nicolette's relationship with him just screams hidden daughter father. "Shit I have to go to this damn ball? FUUUUUUU....hey nicolette since I have to go you're coming too." "Oh god why dad!" "BECAUSE"
>>
>>27640112
But he's not the dad, because dad is a distant relative of Thierri and Raoul. We know this because Archelon said so.

Darling mother was the murderhobo that bumped (:B) into Noble Dad and then sprouted at least one kid.

I assume Mom is enjoying a retirement/whatever while dad does noble things or whatever. It hasn't been mentioned if he's in Granache or the castle or abroad.
>>
>>27639965
That's your mother?
I could have sworn she was no more than a couple of years older than you Nicolette
>>
>>27640127

Well regardless, she's not available for grabs.

You need to be telling that to the other anons.

Not like she'd take any shit from Reinhold anyways, being an unironically successful adventurer. She'd probably turn him into long pork in a second.

>>27640153

While it's just not the same coming from someone looking so young, I'll take it!

I don't really recall that either. But if he did say that it's important to note if Arch himself or some other NPC said that to fill us in, or if Nicol said that to that so we don't make the connection to her real dad, but either way we'll find out next time.

It was mentioned that Nicolette's personality was a lot like her father's.

I don't think that really fits with Gregory.

>>27640179
I really don't remember that being said, and if it wasn't mentioned then Raoul is a pretty solid bet for a variety of reasons.

>"shut up shut up SHUT UP"

Nicolette wants to become a Knight and the only people she has this kind of aversion to is the Princess and Sir Gregory, her dad IS Sir Gregory.

This too, along with other references in other threads points to this.

>"dammit shut up sylvie- ANYWAYS, that's that. My mother wants me to stay at home and live up the noble life, my father wants me to follow in his footsteps, but I want to do my own thing and there we go."

>"shut up shut up SHUT UP"

Thats all I could find on the matter, from thread #23

hints that she's following in her mothers footsteps and has her dads personality, but thats it.
>>
>>27640340
Sounds to me more like she is following in her fathers footsteps if it is Sir Gregory and she takes after her father in some respects but not all of them
>>
>>27640340
we are SO anime now. i think around 75% or so. absurdly youthful mother has been found!
