No one is sure how the Fall came. Its been to long and there are just so many stories with how it came tumbling down...too bad its all true.

Now however a groups are coming out. People are trying to rebuild despite the horrors or difficulty. Its a time of new beginning and its time when a certain group shall arise.

First to five votes is chosen.

Free heads up when I punch I don't pull back. Also I am a sucker for dropping hints and tips they can remain viable for quite some time.

Brought to you by former A.I. EDE.

You may vote for terrain(CHOOSE) and civ type also hero options will be given once choices are done(heroes give special bonuses as well as perspective). A hero can only do 1 action pure a turn. Also feel free to come up with fluff/ideas including factions/civ types it may even be used and you may get a bonus out of it too boot just make to include it in a vote or plan.

>Survivors get a bonus to salvaging and survival actions.

>Tribals get bonuses to scouting and Guerrilla warfare.

>Remnants start with a Tech specialty and gain a special unit because of this

>Government Civ is balanced but doesn't excel at anything till late game.

>Military civ is poor at Manufacture and Research early game but starts with a fortified base and lots of weaponry and trained personnel.

>Mutants get access to 1 free mutation(make one up) plus unnatural endurance thus can survive in areas that would kill normal humans. Unfortunately they suffer from a severe rep penalty(humies fucking HATE you, bandits don't like you and other mutants may see you as competition) and breeding issues.

>bandits have the special ability to auto upgrade their forces thanks to their life style(other factions have to spend resources AND a turn to do so bandits just do resources) however they are unable to make their own supply(must raid or something) and suffer a reputation penalty. *WARNING* white knight choices will be vetoed you are EVIL, but that doesn't mean you can't be smart/clever about it *WARNING*.

>robots cannot produce without resources as they do not breed. Suffer rep penalty but do not suffer the weaknesses of the flesh.

In 'light' of the fact, that the area is known to be poor in resource I would like to propose a faction that is not reliant on resources to a large or even small degree, and is highly efficient at turning even minute amounts resource for almost all their basic needs.

But imagine if you will, a chip the size of a pinhead that can project a solid holographic computer interface. A ring that can be fitted on ones finger that can project a holographic image of a laser rifle. Then imagine that holographic image synthesizing into a real deadly weapon. Or a small machine the size of a briefcase that can project a field of shields and solid energy into a tank, a plane, or even a building

This is Aduro Industries.

>Megacorp "Aduro Industries"
Aduro Industries and Umbra Corp, as one can expect of such named companies, shared a bitter rivalry that spans well before the fall. Always regraded as equals, even at their peak, their rivalry had great influence on the economic world. Where Umbra Corp specialized in biological research, often shady or ethically questionable at the time, Aduro Industries specialized in technological research and in particular, energy research. They were rather more public with their works, often doing many fancy PR stunts (when the president's daughter was afraid of the dark, Aduro industries invented a bed made of LIGHT for her to sleep on [sadly to say it was kinda "hard and lumpy", and she found she couldn't sleep when it was too bright]), another instance was inventing flowers that perpetually glow. Instead of streetlamps for parks, entire gardens of these flowers were grown. You wouldn't believe the shitstorm that happened when we invented "lightsabers" (not exactly, but they work the same and are close enough). Aduro Corp often proclaimed the glittering shining cities of light of the pre-fall world their creation (but to be truthful, the mega cities would've also been unsustainable Umbra Corp's without discoveries in the meidcal and biofield).

Their greatest achievement was to be the first "resource independant" company. Though this was a bending of truth, they were still a company whose assets were 90% energy based 'light material' over actual material assets. They labaled themelves "synthesizers" or "generators" over a manufacturer. Rather than purchasing resources for production, they generated energy from natural sources towards energy mass production. What little solid material they needed, which to other companies wouldn't sustain their factories for an hour, they valued on their ability to efficiently to only need tiny amounts of solid material in their technology. One company motto is "light makes right". The less heavy material used, the more energy, the better. They found out how to make 99.99% efficient engines (losing energy to waste heat in your reactions? You're not using an Aduro Industries engine!). Recyclying and maximizing eficieny from even the smallest resource is so embedded in the culture, wastefulness is a sin in the corporate cult (more on that later). Their ability to reverse the formula E=mc^2, and turn mass into energy even up to fall vehemently angered the scienfitic community.

The oldworld Government was interested in their energy research. Lasers tanks (tanks made of LASERS), microwave satellites, these were small fry . They competed directly against Umbra Corp for government contracts, often savagely (fucking Umbra Corp, stole one of OUR reactor techs to invent a monster that can turn meat and plants into something as powerful as nuclear energy). At it's peak, it planned to unveil a generator that "drew energy from outside the known universe". Itcould make any reaction end with have MORE energy than it started with. Sadly, before they could, the end of the world abruptly occured. Since the fall, much knowledge of that particular project was lost but ever since the numerous remants have been vying for even a shred of proof of its existence.

One such remnant, ours, would hail from branch which had completed the "Mentis Industria" project. More importantly, is "Mentis Industria". It is based on oldworld and recent experimentation into the wavelengths and energies of the human brain (originally designed on the idea the human brain can function as a passive batter["using it to wake coma patients? That's Umbra Corp talk!"]). In effect, they have discovered a way to artificially and technologically replicate the 'hivemind' that is more commonly found through biological mutation. This means that mutation is not a prerequisite for joining (however the same consent rules apply). Psionic users are therefore dependant upon both mutation and personal willpower, and as such numerous CEO's ellected throughout the industries post fall history have been traditionally powerful mutants (though there have been exceptions of highly psionically active humans). Although some humans still form part of their ranks, a vast majority are mutants whose bodies have learned to adapt to the, often toxic to humans, energy that pervades the facility.

Some concerns about Mentis Industria is that it seems to be influenced by the so called "otherworldy source" of energy. Rumor has it several other hiveminds . In particular, the terrifying late Memor or the Think Tank remnants of vault 101. Personally this is a load of baloney. Even if it were so, look how much good the otherworldly source did for them? The Memor achieved their goal of being the most reviled species in the world, their name is a word that has largely replaced "evil" (why do people joke about them being after 'peace and prosperity' again?), and the Think Tank remnants of V101 are smart motherfuckers. Surely the otherworldy source will lead us to glory.

>Possible traits
>"Light makes right" - Maximized resource profit. This is a company that is built on a foundation of using the least amount of material resource, in fact often having little material resources at all, in favor of generating or synthesizing from energy. Not bullets, but lasers. No metal plates, but shielding. However, though the issue or resource has been replaced by the issue of generation, and though there is fuel to be had anywhere there are limits and imrpovements to be done. We are not the oldworld powergiant we used to be, but we strive to back there get there.
>"We sell energy and energy accessories" - Nuclear, plasma, lasers, chemical fuels, explosives? You'll never find anyone with the better of that type of tech than us.
>"A hologram not" - The ability to use vast quantities of energy to solidify holographic images into functioning models via Bose–Einstein photon condensation.
>"Material synthesis" - A company that specializes in reversing the mass-light equation e=mc^2. In theory though we can replicate any material we find, but more exotic substances requires vast quantities of energy.
>>
>>27724216
>"Set blasters to BLAST" Energy Weapons/tech bonus and creations. The government didn't contract us to make lightbulbs (well actually they did that too but that's beyond the point. Did I mention we have lightbulbs that didn't need to plugged in or charged to anything?). We have the ability to research weapons that make the railguns, tesla coils, and gauss cannons of other factions look like toys. Nuclear energy? That's so 21st century. In addition, where Umbra corp made creations of flesh. WE created sentient beings of light, heat, radiation, and elemental energy.
>"Sheilds up". Bonus to shield technology. We INVENTED shields. Even our shields have SHIELDS. We have tech shields that absorb certain types of energy and use it to channel them. Around the time of the fall the issue of radiation affecting our employees (whether by vicinity to reactors or fallout) was solved by creating shields which absorb it naturally like a sponge to poweritself. Since the fall we were some of the few to enjoy a great deal of human population even amidt the most harshest enviornments. Not even the government had/has access to our shielding tech.
>"Children of the Sun." The Sun is worshipped almost as a diety in the corporate cult, along with several other gods of light. But to be truthful, it's use is far beyond religion. Here in the dessert, the Sun has been given the power to scorch men but ah, Aduro Industries technology can spongeup that glorious solar energy for untold power. In the day, we are strong.

"Aduro Industries, making your tommorow brighter yesterday."

sorry about the lengthy dump, in retrospect this would've been better pastebinned.

i vote for Robots

because why the fuck not
>>
>>27724093
Umbra Corp became so powerful thanks to their formidable ability to their many connections and general shadiness which isn't even including their sucking up ability to governments ect. They originally started as a company mass producing the usual variety of goods. Basic nothing special back then they were known as Ali Family Company. Until one day they invested heavily and doing ruthless and even outright vicious hostile Takeovers countless companies got gutted or absorbed. People considered the company mad at first it seemingly came out of nowhere and it was believed about to die they thought Umbra could not afford it or make to many enemies. What they didn't know is that Umbra had many shady and government contracts which fueled this sudden growth and protected them. They became giant in medical, life, home, protection and even weapons technology. Basically they were who you went to if you needed lives saved or taken.

Aduro industries locked apparently anons really hated Umbra Corp[/spoilers]

In any case please decide upon a tech special. You may only get one. You also need to agree upon a HQ.

Also designed upon a terrain type(choose) and homeground.

Below are homeground samples.

Urban: Start with a large, gutted building with doors and windows boarded up, no reliable food sources.

Rural: Start with a small farm, less hostiles nearby, few places to scavenge.

Desert: Start with scarce water, scarce food, lots of space to build, more military and scientific locations nearby.

Forest: Start with nearby game and plentiful wood, monsters lurk the forests.

Island: Start in relative safety, fish are plentiful but irradiated, few nearby locations

Military Base: Start with small armory, reinforced buildings, old intelligence archives, MRE and ammunition stockpile, and tiny nuclear generator, but no reliable food source and attractive raiding target.

Science Lab: Start with extensive underground complex, scientific material to speed research, and experimental surface solar farm, but dangerous things lurking in some deeper labs.

Vault: Start with extensive underground complex, lots of raw materials, a geothermal spike, and a hydroponics lab.

Prison: Start with small armory, reinforced buildings, ammunition stockpile, but no reliable food source and attractive raiding target.

Feel free to come up with more these are basically where your HQ may be located in or nearby.

>Vault: Start with extensive underground complex, lots of raw materials, a geothermal spike, and a hydroponics lab.
Vault would be best suited for a Megacorp remnant. Lots of potential resources. We'd have a natural source of geothermal energy, and hydroponics grown from generated light.

Also I don't want to live in the *excessive* fear of the ground rising up against us like last time. Not that I'm expecting peace and harmony down there. But that lab science bonus man. . .

Oooh, can we be like a scaled up Universe 25? It was supposed to be a little mouse utopia, the results were... interesting.

>"After day 600, the male mice just stopped defending their territory, listless mice congregated in the centres of the Universe. These gangs would burst into pointless and sporadic violence. Females stopped reproducing and even started attacking their own young. Mortality rose phenomenally. Roaming mice either attacked or attempted to mount others, irrespective of relation or gender, cannibalism and other acts of depravity consumed them. These were the feral ones. Then there were the ‘beautiful ones.’

>The ‘beautiful ones’ withdrew themselves ever so quietly, removing themselves from the sick society. Solitary pursuits began to define them; eating, drinking and grooming among others. No scars on their back or hairs out-of-place, these mice behaved like a separate race. They saw the world through their narrow scopes, as they tossed, turned and tried to cope."

>Location: Desert

One of the more daring Research-Vault experiments. Vault Praespero was meant to see what would happen when a population composed of mostly scientists was isolated for an extended period of time with assumed incompatible technologies.

The Hypothesis was that the residents would divide into opposing sects of mechanical augmenters, and psionic-users.

Instead, the population solved the integration problems in both technology and biology, and technology and psionics. They also temporarily turned their hands to political science after this quantum leap, and engineered a tech/psionic combination hivemind. Using their newly formed perfect democracy (this brand of hivemind allowing for individuality, but also sharing of memories/experiences through central hubs), they voted to keep the hivemind, but get back to the things they did best. The hivemind acts as an unsurpassed means of sharing scientific discovery among the community, and integrating new members does not have the normal psionic-sensitivity or mutation requirements.

This miraculous step is made much less surprising when one is told that a brilliant scientist, known widely to rival the brilliance of the esteemed Dr. Volk, had been inserted into the lab on accident. He had recently faked his death to fool the assassins Volk would send at him for a while, and the experiment designers mistook him for an average scientist.

Benefits:
Tech specializations- Psionics, Bio-Borg Technology
Research Facility- Research bonus, Nuclear Reactors
Vault- Geothermal Spike, Nuclear Reactors, Extra Raw Materials
Borg Tech- Borg units are very NOT resource intensive, and able to survive in harsh environments
Psionic Tech- Psionic technology was a closely guarded secret, having some of the only remaining Pre-Fall records on it is of immeasurable value

Your Tower was built overlooking a lake(now of lava) that concealed a Vault. From which you emerged. Sadly being so far away out in the middle of nowhere greatly limited the amount of personal that was able to make it time before everything was put under lockdown. Tower is made up of 55 stories high. Rather squat by Pre Rift Standards but it was built to endure and protect.

Equipped with Mass Production Nano beds.

Highly Advanced Labs Shield Tech.

Good Labs for everything.

Beyond excellent infrastructure that both the Vault and tower contained(rather advanced too). We had massive stores of supplies which should last us a while. Security wise tower is rather decently equipped with armor plating and our most advanced shielding and barrier methods. As well as excellent lockdown capabilities especially in the Vault.

>Some concerns about Mentis Industria is that it seems to be influenced by the so called "otherworldy source" of energy. Rumor has it several other hiveminds . In particular, the terrifying late Memor or the Think Tank remnants of vault 101.

Exactly, we could also find other paths to a hivemind, like a chip inserted into the brain/spine on our men to connect them to a technological hivemind, then it would also be easier to install firewalls, program in upgrades, create interfaces to our Technologies and be less subsceptible to psionic attacks, the 2 possible disadvantages with this is 1. We did a review of the Tower. Many of the flours were largely abandoned. Things got interesting once we went beyond the Vault door and into the Tower's bowls. There we found crates of raw materials and the nanite beds. Specially sealed waste and a unusual nuclear generator. Up the top we found that officiously there were 50 floors. In actuality there 55. The hidden 5 floors contained labs and a computer servers.

When we checked out the Vault we went passed the sealed areas...many of which turned out to be usually flooded with Lava and few others with water. We did however find hints that a part of the vault is connected to a cave system.

Dr. Picli started looking into the thermal shielding. We got armor plating that can resist trick is making it so that shields can do it as well. With that we saw Dr. Picli fishing in the Lava Lake with shield units...

Slow down there, we haven't finished thermal shield research and we kind of need that to go anywhere/do anything in the middle of our volcano. Also, we have a connection to a wholely unknown cave system at the base of our base. Let's lock that down temporarily at least, then scout it before we go about setting up any long-term resource collection devices.

This is an excellent idea pending we figure out if we have the capability or need the research

Also good, we could hide our base from prying eyes.

However, first we must establish the saftey and security of our facilities. This means protecting from heat, radiatoin, tunnel incursion (tunnels again? dammit) and such.
>>
>>27727609

True. let us go with that first, But I do Think we might have the Tech required for it atleast, If Dr. Picli was able to fish up lava with shield units we should be able to create a simple resource extraction system by funneling lava with barriers and then separating the different materials due to differing densities (just like how you extract oil/asphalt from crude oil.

Could we possibly set up production of these assorted materials from raw materials in the lava lakes? If we feed the raw materials to the nano-machine beds they should be able to produce various items from it.
>>
>>27727825

We don't have separate pop. timers for humans and mutants? That seems more reasonable.

Would it be possible to set up /materials/ extraction from the lava, once our technology is sufficiently advanced? I'm presuming our tech is very far from being able to do that.

Also, we need to work on developing advanced batteries quickly, so we don't have to bleed resources. We need to be able to recharge our shields, weapons, vehicles, etc.

I agree with this sentiment, We don't have the numbers to be truly agressive. No matter how technologically advanced we are.
As for the nanites, I didn't quite follow the whole nanite catastrophy, but we are quite good with barriers, couldn't we keep the nanites in a well shielded room with barriers that kill all nanites that go through them and keep all our nanite activity there? I'm talking Barriers walls, floor and ceiling. This is if we can make selective barriers like that. Probably barriers that work in a wavelength that deactivates/destroys nanites

Not enough to go lava dipping or even get close but enough so our guys wont drop dead of heat stroke at least.

Thermal shield plating has replaced our current shield units. Despite the difficulty they all gut upgraded.

Dr. Picli was seen in a lab tearing apart some shields and grabbed some supply crates set up a some shade and lawn chair straw hat and went fishing again. This time managed time around we saw Dr. Picli sent flying over the lake...

Shields upgraded. Can endure being nearby Lava unless you get close. In which case it can only endure limited amount of time. If you fall in though your fucked.

I think this is as Close as we should get to being able to be in lava for now. It's not like we'd be able to swin in it any way due to the density and the need to breathe with the fumes rising from the lava etc. Although we migth want to consider "snowshoes" for the future with the purpose of walking across lava... with airpurifiers and a bit better thermal resistance in the future we could probably walk across the lava with that thanks to the high density of lava.

Scouts explored the surrounding again. They claim to have sighted some strange groups of people and few packs of...something. They didn't know what and didn't get close enough to find out due to not being able to take afford casualties.

Dr. Picli when heard about used a torch, some helium gas, laser pointer and a barrier projector to produce a crude model of of slicing barriers. Only problem is calibration. As when used they tend to either vaporize or have no effect at all. Thus it is MADNESS. Seriously though Picli didn't even use a lab just some stuff laying around in the hallway...

When tinkering with a nuclear reactor you need strict methodologies. Seeing as we don't seem to have any real resistance to radioactivity I'd prefere to have someone that won't possibly remove the shielding to easier look at the inside and see how it looks while still on and radiates our entire base with it.
And if you transfere the rate Richard went through assistants to our population of 100 we just can't affort that kind of recklessness.

I wasn't aware Richard had a noticeable attrition rate in assistants. That aside, if you were worried about him not knowing what he was doing then we wouldn't have let him poor buckets of entropic virus and toss novakons into the Hellhole.

And while I doubt this guy is a Dr. Volk, I'm sure he won't fuck around in ways that'll get him killed.
>>
Rolled 10

Richard was crazy BEFORE getting locked down you know where. Then he had that to him and then that....sane is quite simply not in his vocabulary.

Teams when out scavenging near our base got hit by some packs of mutants. Bastards were tough our weapons didn't do much against them. Luckily we chased them off when we jury rigged some shields to explode. We suffered no casualties but failed to completely failed to find any resources...place has been picked pretty clean and there is the fact there it is scarce in the first place thanks to being a desert an all.

Cloaking shields started work didn't go well. Instead we had some explosions occur and some Dr. Picli running out with a sparkly shield afterwards. Sing abouting lasers are blue and shields are red.

Base Ovmar to the west typical paramilitary fuckers heavily trained and armed. Happy to offer their services as mercs. Considering they are the best around they can subsist of it despite lack of resources. Careful though they like their borgs.

Etozade Tribe they are nomads don't know how they survive out here but they do.

Know there are some survivor groups in the city.

Town Oakshire ruins houses some hardy survival types. Watch out though these hardcore fuckers even deal with zombies and ghouls readily.

There are some old bunkers and vaults laying around. Don't know whats in there though. They don't talk much unlike you guys. Must say caught us by surprise that you came out of your nice tower there.

There are also some research complexes scattered around. Problem is they got all manner of nasty things lurking around them never could get close.

That is what I know about. Those are human factions and the except for the mutant one.

As for water if we can get a steady supply of oxygen (from the air) and hydrogen (from. . .the volcano? Waste?) we have the energy potential to start synthesizng water via electrolysis.

That's it! We get the caravan to offer us hydrogen fuel, we manufacture water via electrolysis, and we sell that water and everyone gets a cut.

Exactly. ´But if Dr. Picli Thinks it's feasible I say we try it soon, Cause right now our low pop is our biggest problem. But it would be really difficult to do, maybe it would be easier with nanites integrated into it.

Yeah, that would be the easiest way. But we have to make sure to have a good vetting programme, or soon the tower will be overrun with people that doesn't neccessarily agree with our agenda that outnumbers us 500 to 100 or something.

There however their luck seemed to run out when some monsters found right when their shields ran out of juice...until a figure showed with no armor and sole rifle blew them apart and turned stated and said.

"Why howdy its good to know that I er Jack I think it was am able to welcome you to City Jalko. The point of exploring the tunnels would be to figure out what's down there that can penetrate our shields. The entrance, if you'll recall, is secured by shields.

It's that part that kinda puts us off.

But begars can't be choosers. And we at least have stealth shields to act as a buffer.

The whole getting by our shields was most likely due to them just ambushing them from another path or hiding in wait. But if we get reports of monsters getting past our barriers protecting the base then we will search. For now it's just a risk and sink of manpower we can't afford
And lets not get into nukes just yet, We don't even have a delivery system or are able to make warheads.

1s are taken no matter which action is chosen, though traditionally the action that the 1 occurred on or links to is the one that gets done.

They don't want Uranium because, as you've pointed out, they've no use for nukes (let alone they likely have reactors of their own). It's possible they have reactors that need radioactive material, but there's 2 of them so that'll be a one time exchange in all likelihood.

What information do we have? Are we going to tell them how to make our shields? NPCs have always known more about just about everything than we have.

Why do they want our high-tech shields? They have their own specialties that they prize more highly, so our shields are nifty trinkets for a little bit...then they're very expensive junk to be thrown to the nanites.

Try to listen instead of driving headlong after whatever you've determined is your goal all the time, and tricking other people into following you.

Our salvagers didn't return and we detected an warband heading towards the tower...who turned out to be Urgsha.

Dr. Picli meanwhile wanted to go with the mutants but they said no can follow them as they near the lava. Insisted that could and proved his point. As thanks for the meal they did something strange to his Dr. Picli's shield that allowed the Mad Scientists to skinny dip in the lava naked...and happily did so then decided to wonder off with the mutants.

I know about the nat 1 rule :p just joking around.

And for information we have newer knowledge of the surrounding areas, we can tell then about interesting groups and beings we encounter that they might find useful but are unlikely to encounter without the knowledge due to bein situated in the city, we could offer extra computing power if they really need it for a really big project, we could offer installing barriers etc for them, if they are better than us at that then sure, not then, The uranium is a fair point, but we still don't know untill we've asked them, they might need tons of it for some gizmo they have.

We could try strewing the way towards our tower with our uranium, but that'd bring ghouls here and might not even phase the Urgsha due to their paramilitary nature and being mutants.
>>
>>27734501
Those towers have an interest in knowing about their surroundings and getting realtime updates on them, for example knowing that urgsha is on the move right now and where he is is some valuable information. We can give realtime updates on the ghouls (seeing as we can actually see their base from our tower if I'm not mistaken and we can learn of things that approach the city from our direction before they do. All of that information is valuable and in need of constant updates.
>>
>>27734549

Dare I say it, but. . .we could simply push a reactor outside our door. Conceal it. And then turn every single one of our shields to MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE and detonate it.

>>
>>27734549

>>27734618
A single dead messenger is worth the risk of not pissing off someone who isn't exactly after us.
>>
>>27734580
That's a good backup plan. We should keep that in mind, if possible we could also collapse tunnels under them if they turn out to be actively hostile and we don't want to do something quite that destructive. And I'd REALLY prefere if we didn't irradiate our surroundings. We could try to flood the area where they are with lava instead if push comes to shove. Either by manipulation with barriers or lowering a reactor into the lava protected by TONS of thermal barriers and then detonating it there, causing a flooding of lava to erupt while most of the radiation is absorbed.

2. the other companies might not have been such pushovers and might have been able to defend themselves, or they might also have such a deal in Place as well.
3.we actually do have the means, overload a nuclear reactor encased in tons of thermal shields under the lava to cause an eruption from the explosion, this would cause a tidal wave of lava to sweep out, if the lava is close enough to the enemy and we positioned it correctly it should have the desired effect.
4. Indeed we do (as I said, I'm behind option 1 and 2 but for those that don't want to give in I want to state some obvious options)
