You tell your alien cat of a boss that you don't have an opinion, one way or another, about you having to spend considerably less time babysitting the most popular - and coincidentally the most annoying - idol in the world. You're not paid to care.

Still, if he wants you to pet him for a bit, you wouldn't say no. Maybe for a few seconds, and just on the head. ...Probably some ear-scratching, but nothing beyond that. You don't want to make this weird.

There's a moment of silence here, before Kyuubey turns away from you. "I appreciate the offer, Matsuda, but it won't be necessary. I already have Tomoe Mami to attend to that kind of need, if it ever comes up."

...Ah. Huh. All...alright, then. Y-you were just joking, anyway.

"There's no need to sound offended, Matsuda."

You're not offended! God damn mutant bastard cat!
>>
>>27737730

"If you say so." It's here he clears his throat. "Now, before you ask, no, this abrupt change of plans is not about your performance tonight - at least, as far as I've heard. 2020 Productions simply wishes to move their most important asset somewhere safer for the time being. I did volunteer you to at least accompany her to where they're shipping her off to, but..."

It's here that the alien feline lets out its equivalent of a sigh and a shrug. Betraying the faintest note of irritation and frustration in his voice. "They seem to have their own plans, so I didn't press the issue."

...Well. Sounds like idol production agencies are just as hard to deal with as their own idols, huh?

"Not as such. Just this particular one." Kyuubey lets out another sigh, his tail flicking from side to side. He looks up at you again, and you have the feeling that he's about to say something - but seems to decide against it at the last moment. As if he doesn't trust you enough, just yet.

"Nevermind that. No need to bore with you difficult business relationships, Matsuda." He shakes his head. "In any case, the security detail should be finished loading your victims - and their helpers - into the conveyance Karasawa requested. Following the rules and regulations set by the First Officio in handling Magical Girl prisoners, we will hold them seperate Silent Rooms and have them interrogated, before conducting a proper trial to decide whether we allow them to live and re-integrate them into our own ranks, or submit them to execution." He nods at you. "You will, of course, be required to preside over the trial as a judge."

You get to do that kind of thing?

"Well, of course. You are Warmaster, after all." Kyuubey blinks, here. "Before we get into that, though - is there anything else that happened during this assassination attempt? Something else you'd like to mention that came up?"

...Sounds like the mutant cat's trying to fish for something.

How do you respond?

[X] Their boss, Lucius, was responsible for threatening Mami, and is working for the Prophet. They called me Faust's Shieldmaiden. The 10th seemed aware of the attack ahead of time, and told the Tojo Group about it. Faust is able to disable our time stop. The gauntlets contain the soul of their original owner. And someone named Wendy, who I have been seeing in my dreams, might have been here, or I might have been hallucinating.

Come on, let's trust our feline friend a little.

We should ask Mami (or I guess Kyuubei if we need to) for files and info on Wendy. Jut blame it on bad dreams if they ask, since we know they're aware of the connection of Chiaki and her, which should let them not suspect she's around here.

We need to take precautions in case Wendy's bad news. Fair enough not to sick the Officio on her by outing her presence, but we can't just ignore her either because that leaves us clueless and helpless and entirely to blame if she DOES do anything. We need to know more about her (the NECO files are good, but there has to be more info about her methods and powers available to us in the Officio).
>>
>>27737970
>>27737984
>>27737990
Regardless; it's pointless to mention Wendy was there at the moment; considering no-one even saw her but us and the situation's dealt with, unless she starts stabbing people now then there's nothing to mention.
>>
>>27738011

Yes but we had a small internal agreement with Kyuubey not to hide things from each other.

We even told him of pinky and I see no reason not to stop. As of now, she helped Chiaki and no signs of any combative action against the 8th, yet so she appears to be ok, for now.

of course you do. That's his schtick.

He always knows more than we do. The trick is figuring out exactly what it is he knows that we don't that he isn't going to volunteer, what he suspects and is simply trying to get confimation of, and what he doesn't know and is trying to lure out of us.

There's a reason everybody hates dealing with Incubators.
>>
>>27738123
It isn't. There's an optimum amount of squishiness, however. A point at which the ice cream is JUST melted enough to be soft, without being a liquid.

That exact point is when you can eat ALL the Ice Cream.
>>
You take a long, deep drag from your cigarette, before telling your boss exactly what he wanted to hear. Namely, the bit about the Magical Girls that did their level best to try and reduce you into a greasy stain on the astroturf wasn't actually gunning for Ruri - they were gunning for you, under orders from the Prophet. Kirishima Ruri was simply collateral damage, a way to make an example of the Ninth Officio.

...No, you didn't tell him about Wendy. That would be crazy. You're not sure about her yet, anyway - and if she IS here, then you'd want to find her yourself, first.

"Yes, I gleaned that much from comms traffic, and what Karasawa briefed me on." Kyuubey muses, sounding more amused than anything else. "While I must say this could potentially be a complicating factor if anyone else requests for your personal protection, Matsuda, I cannot help but admire this...Prophet's dedication to getting your attention. It reminds me of a much simpler time, before the Officio System was fully established."

Well, you're glad he's finding this a riot. Was it really better back then?

"What?" The Incubator blinks at you, incredulous. "Oh, no. It was a disorganized, bloody mess. We never got anything done properly, and the Witch population was at an all-time high. A system needed to be formalized and established - if we'd allowed the status quo back then to persist, the Heat Death Incident we'd been working to delay would have occured in no less than two, three years." Another sigh, one that sounded remarkably bitter, even for someone like Kyuubey. "It's all thanks to the First that I managed to get the rest of my brothers to agree to my proposition."

He clears his throat, here. "In any case. As amusing as this Prophet is, allowing her to continue unopposed may present unforeseen complications in the long run. I'll be pushing up this matter a bit higher up the priority ladder - the sooner we can have this resolved, the better."

Are there any leads, yet? You remember assigning the other rank leaders duties about this.

"No concrete ones, excluding what information we may be able to obtain from your victims, Matsuda. I believe Rea Ashford may have a theory in the works, but you'll have to approach her personally for that. And speaking of your victims, do you have their Soul Gems, still?"

You nod, here. A bit of rifling in your inventory, and you place them on the bench, in front of the Incubator. Three Soul Gems, glowing brightly, but slowly darkening. After a moment, you also plunk down Ayumu's Soul Gem as well, and Kyuubey nods in approval.

"I'll go ahead and take these. Mami has expressed an interest in talking to them, herself - she knows of what they did to that civilian. Needless to say she has a few choice words about the matter." There's a disturbing crunching sound as the scarlet teardrop emblem on Kyuubey's back seems to swallow up each Soul Gem as they're dropped onto it. "I'll make sure she doesn't get too carried away, as I'm sure you want to do most of the interrogating yourself. At least, with these three. As for Kasuga's, I'll have her restored to her natural state as soon as possible."

Right. Well. You have to hand it to the mutant cat, he's certainly responsible.

...Also, Mami's doing the interrogation? Oh, man. You almost feel bad for Lucius and her crew.

Almost, anyway.

"She never said anything to the effect, but she did express the desire to talk to them before you do. Rest assured it'll be done in the safety of a Silent Room, in case they try anything." It's here that Kyuubey opens his mouth to yawn - another feline trait, one he seems to have no trouble emulating at all. "After Kirishima Ruri dismisses you tomorrow morning, I expect you to report back to the Headquarters as soon as you can for your debriefing."

I don't think we can put our relationship with Pinky in to one word. We're her ex girlfriend, killer, murder victim, favourite toy, friend, object of hatred, chosen golden weapon wielder, and god knows what else.

As well as the Neco profiles, I seem to recall that Wendy actually told her as much in one of her dreams.

You don't have to have emotions to do what's frowned upon. For the contract, if it works, it works.

Favouring one class of girls (those of hopes and dreams) can also lead to efficiency increases - any organisation in complete harmony also will be slack; one needs some competition and rivalry to get things done. Also hopes and dreams are good things for an incubator to rest their laurels on.
>>
>2013
>Not being part of a government wet team made to target magical girls

>>
>>27739147
There's a good question right there. If Faust "hatches", then would the incubators be able to harvest the energy of the birth of the god-witch? At that point, all bets are off.
>>
>>27739128
except it shouldnt have been. The only reason Gretchen was as powerful as she was is the time loop Homura had built up.

>>
>>27739140

>>27739150

I'm guessing that Kyuubey had the "complete harmony" thing in mind, which is why he had his fellow Incubators set up their own Officios and not condemning any rivalry between them that isn't bordering on outright hostility.

>>
>>27739178
Complete harmony is actually a good way to avoid despair, actually; if that harmony's matched together with victory.

People are in fact resilient things; they survive catastrophe effectively - people will adapt to loss of houses, loss of limbs, crippling injury, death of loved ones. They manage to get over it, for the most part.

What people don't get over, what causes despair, anger, upset; is repeated failure, failure that is rubbed in again and again in a dozen different ways. There are quite a few coping mechanisms for this, including blaming others for it, but overall it's a longer term repeated little defeats that really lead to falling into despair.

See: Sayaka and her cavalcade of failure, Homura nearly witching out in the last epsiode before Madoka steps in to save the day. See counterpoint: Mami going batshit crazy and shooting Kyouko in the soul gem before getting put down - note that she didn't in fact witch out herself.
>>
>>27739273
I suspect that Kyuubey is going for the combo-breaker.

Take out Mami and there's good odds that you'll witch out half his officio.
>>
>>27739239
I have no words, truly.

>>27739273
Repeated failure with no readily apparent chance of victory. People will shoot for the long odds when they think they have even the slightest chance of winning.

Hell, the only thing I can think of that tanks more defeats and keeps on trucking would be X-Com; speaking of which is bloody addictive.

...Yes, there is something. You remember something that Lucius had said, earlier, while you were beating the shit out of her and her goons. Something about remembering how many of them you killed. It sounds like a lead to you. Does he have any records of you getting on the wrong side of another Officio in the past? You remember Kharn telling you about what happened with you and the Third.

Kyuubey blinks at this. "Hm. That does sound like it deserves some looking into. Besides the incident that started it, there was also another that happened a few weeks after the Third transferred most of its contracts to me." He shakes his head. "You very nearly didn't survive that one."

What? Another incident? One you almost died in?

"I'll brief you about it some other time, Matsuda. Perhaps tomorrow. But I'll have someone look into your theory, see if it could lead to something." With that, he turns to leave again, but you stop him before he could take another step.

"Yes? Matsuda, we do have a timetable to adhere to, even now. Make it quick."

...You open your mouth to tell him about Wendy, but you close it after a moment. It's...no. You can't tell him, not now, not when you're not even sure if it was real or not. Maybe it was, and maybe, hilariously, you did sexually harass your dead ex in the middle of a field while you were half-delirious from blood loss. But you want to confirm it yourself, first.

Instead, you ask him if there's any chance that your procedure could make you see hallucinations, enough that they seem to be real. Even when they're not supposed to be.

She locked herself in her own room, admitting no one in. The first week, all we heard from her was her crying for Malal. Begging her to return. Begging for her forgiveness. And more than anything else, crying about how she'd betrayed the one oath that mattered."

The Incubator pauses, here. "The next week, she stopped crying. We heard her talking to someone, despite it being a fact that she was completely alone, and without any means of communicating with the outside world. She even stepped out of her room for the first time, and walked down the corridor, as if nothing had ever happened, talking to someone beside her, even if there was clearly no one there. Did you know who she was talking to, Matsuda?"

Malal? You venture here.

Kyuubey nods. "Valnikov Kharn was hallucinating that Malal was still alive, walking beside her. It was unnerving, to say the least. We tried to convince her that Malal was truly gone, that she was simply delusional - but she was utterly convinced of it that she almost killed Tomoe Mami herself in the process. But she didn't, because the Malal in her mind stopped her, and reminded her of who she was. Omegon deactivated her Soul Gem the moment Tomoe Mami was clear, and we had her drugged and unconscious for another week before she woke up and asked to be able to mourn her best friend's death properly. We took that as a sign that she was back."

[2/3]
>>
>>27739453

I'm really curious about how Malal died.
>>
>>27739481
Flashback eventually.
>>
>>27739453

The Incubator lets out a sigh. "What I'm trying to get at, here, Matsuda, is that there is evidence that the procedure could have made you see a hallucination, one that might have been real enough, that you'd be convinced. I am not saying this is the unimpeachable truth, but merely the conclusion that has the highest probability of being true." He looks at you. "Did you see something after all, then, Matsuda? Would you tell me who it is?"

. . .Someone from your past who's supposed to be dead. You're...not too sure who she was, but she should be dead.

"Well, that clears it up a bit, then." Kyuubey nods. "The dead do not come back to life, Matsuda. A hallucination, nothing more. Put it out of your mind." It's here that he finally leaves, loping out of sight with remarkable alien cat speed.

You let out a sigh yourself, before sitting back down on the bench. You take one last drag from your dying cigarette, before letting it fall down onto the floor to be ground out of its misery with your heel.

. . .Fuck everything about this mission. And idols.

The concert formally came to close about half an hour later after that. Thankfully, no further incident occured - even during the bit where you had to escort Ruri out of the fan-choked stadium. Surprisingly - or not so surprisingly - you yourself were surrounded more than a couple of times, with hordes of fans screaming to get your autograph, or even get a photograph of you. Sayaka, Enishi and even Deepthroat had to physically hold you back from shooting a particularly-grabby fan who tried to steal your glasses.

In any case, you're back at the Hotel now, in Ruri's own suite, with the building secured once more. Kyuubey even sent over two more Vindicare squads to provide overwatch from the nearby buildings, just in case something came up again, or if Tojo Group decided to get back at you. Yoshitaka Mine, the representative you knocked out earlier, was reported to have been carried out by his goons just after the concert.

"Wah, that was the best concert I've ever had in ages!" Ruri is still glowing with praise, even after having bent your ear in the limousine ride on the return trip. "Everyone's saying that they've never seen such an awesome plug for an anime that's not even out yet!" She does a spin in her rather revealing underwear, here - the idol in the middle of disrobing for her bath. "I hope Green Green-sama's happy, wherever she is! I'm making her masterpiece into something legendary!"

...Yeah. Yeah, probably. You're just lounging at the couch, now, resting your aching, tired everything. You'll...probably get a bath after your client does. You just want to be clean for some reason.

Probably all the fucking dried blood making your costume stick to you, eh? That, or you're slowly learning how to upkeep hygiene like a fucking human being again.

[4/5]
>>
>>27739588
Why would that make her hate him? That means there's no competition between the two. If nothing else threeways
>>
>>27739595
Tit men are inherently inferior. It's a natural hate.
>>
>>27739594

"You think so, Chiaki-chan?" Ruri beams at you. "Haha, well, I really hope that's the case! If having actual Magical Girls duke it out like that during the song that's going to be playing during signature fight scenes doesn't get her pumped up, nothing will!" She punches the air with a novice's clumsy enthusiasm a couple of times. "Yah! Hyaah! Fuck your face PUNCH!"

...She really gets a bang out of this Magical Girl stuff, huh?

"I told you!" Ruri grins. "I love Magical Girls!"

You shake your head. Idols will be idols. She should get ready for bed, in any case. You'll be staying up for guard duty again.

"...Aww, really?" It's here that Ruri pouts. "Can't you grant me this one favor and sleep beside me, Chiaki-chan? I mean, we won't see each other ever again after tomorrow, right?"

She's not going to give that up either?

"Please, Chiaki-chan!" Ruri falls dramatically in front of you, bowing in the way peasants throw themselves at the mercy of samurai. "Just this one time, please!"

How do you respond?

[]Fine. Sure. Whatever it takes for you to shut up.

The straight man is a stock character in a comedy performance, especially a double act, comedy sketch, or farce.

When his comedy partner behaves eccentrically, the straight man's response ranges from aplomb to outrage, or from patience to frustration. He will often also be found in sitcoms.

In the manzai comedy of Japan, the straight man is called tsukkomi.

Both sides are shit and both sides are acting like children but the ones coming across worse are the no's for cheating harder regardless of whether it is what you think is in character or not
>>
>>27740036
The vote was not to decide if we would fuck Ruri.
It was to decide if we would share her bed, while extremely tired, after being stabbed multiple times.
>>
I don't really care either way; nothing more will occur (I'll even jinx it!) that we need to be awake for, and while I personally voted No, if Chiaki managed to sleep in the same bed as Midori with nothing (really) lewd happening, it won't happen here either.
>>
>>27739995
Maybe Decu should institute Shadow Quest voting?
>>
>>27740036

Except it's not to fuck her. It was explicitly stated before that she doesn't want to fuck, she just wants to sleep in the same bed as Chiaki.
Not even groping or handholding, either.

The point remains though, that Chiaki's opinion on the matter is well established. We know that Chiaki values her professionalism, and generally doesn't approve of relationships with non-magical girls.

This doesn't seem like it should even be something up for vote.

No, the rules were put in place for all votes.
There's nothing from Decu that implies what you say.

>>
>>27740071
In character is what the votes decide

And notice the big stream of no's came midway in after yes had a decent lead which sort of implies that more people samefagged no first
>>
>>27740184
You mean the Shadow Quest antisamefag voting rules can be used without explicit instruction from the QM? Color me surprised.
>>
Sometimes I imagine Decu sat at his computer, a tear rolling down his cheek.
"I just want to run a quest thread and have fun, why do they always have to fight?"
>>
>>27740171
The shitstorm was because the vote was close and decu miscounted posts like

"Yeah, as I voted earlier, I agree that bringing Kyubey into timestop is a good idea (I have already voted and this is not an actual vote but I'm still voicing agreement again for that choice of action)"

as votes, and when someone checked the number of [x] votes it was noted that the vote of "don't take Kyubey into timestop" was actually the winner.

This is why the rules are "blah blah blah" is not a vote, and "[x] do blah blah blah" within 20 minutes does definitely count.

Decu can count votes after the 20 minutes if he wants to, but you only are guaranteed a vote if you vote before those 20 minutes.
>>
>>27740184
>There's nothing from Decu that implies what you say.
Except for the fact that I was the one who wrote up the rules that were proposed and subsequently used in several contentious votes, the rules for all voting changed after that, but on the issue of samefagging and anti-samefagging there was a separate system for Decu to use when he wanted to.

Now shut up, stop taking this so seriously and either calm down or go take a walk, because you're taking this too seriously
>>
>>27740005

What? Get tired after a long day and pass out? Give in to the whims of an Idol because it's easier to just say yes rather than tie her to the bed and listen to her bitch till the job is over? Isn't that perfectly in character for Chiaki?

We now have more security on this one girl than we have do on Mami FFS. Murderface needs sleep.

I trust decu either way.

You look down on the idol prostrating herself before you, begging for the privilege of sleeping beside you. You allow yourself to briefly consider it - it's not everyday that the most powerful idol in the world is actually begging you for a favor.

. . .

You grumble out your reply, and it's with abject shock that Ruri looks up, the motion of it quick enough that one of her stupidly-long twintails whiplashed up to very nearly smack you in the face.

"Eh?! B-but, Chiaki-chaan...!" The green-haired super idol wails in despair. "I just wanted to--!"

You're still sticking to what you said about this the last time, you tell her. Nothing is going to change your mind, and after what happened in the concert, nothing ever will.

...But just to shut her up about it already, you'll make a compromise. You'll sleep beside her, yes, but you'll be on the floor instead on the bed. There's probably a comforter somewhere in the suite you can unroll, or something.

"But that's not--" Ruri starts again, but you cut her off with a glare, one that tells her just how you've had enough of flighty idols and their horseshit. She falls silent momentarily, before pouting as she turns away. "...Okay. Fine. I don't like it much, but it'll do, I guess."

You nod at this, before jerking your head towards the suite's bathroom. She should start getting ready for bed.

"Y-yes, Chiaki-sama~!" Ruri obediently bounces up to her feet, her pout quickly replaced with her trademark cheeky grin - and you hear the door to the bathroom slam shut as she disappears into it. A moment later, and you hear the sound of the shower being turned on, along with Ruri singing the song she'd performed with Iori, earlier.

You let out a sigh here. Finally, some peace.

"Hey, Murderface!" Sayaka's voice calls from behind the door, followed by her barging in right through. From the looks of it, she's also ready for bed, freshly showered and slipped back into a nightgown. You don't see Blueberry Cheesecake Brownie on her, but you do see a combat knife strapped to her bare ankle. "How are you holding up? Do you need any more healing, or something?"

What? Is Sayaka actually concerned for you? Alright, who the fuck is the Callidus in front of you, and what did she do with your Equerry?

"Huh? But I'm not--" Sayaka blinks, before frowning. "...Wow. Really, Murderface? I just want to make sure you don't flatline the night before Mission End, in case I missed anything. Fuck me, right?"

...You're fine. You're just tired, you tell her. Tired of everything. You apologize after a few moments, and she grudgingly accepts it with a nod, before sitting beside you.

"You're going to get cleaned up, right? You've still got all that shit on you." She gestures to your bloody costume. You nod at this - you're just waitiing for the idol to finish bathing, and then you'll get your own shower.

"Ah, good. Thought you were gonna do the Girl A thing and sleep in it." Sayaka makes a face, before blinking. "Oh, before you fuck Ruri, get her to fill this out, first." She takes a manila envelope from somewhere behind her, and passes it to you. You blink before taking it. "It's a feedback response kind of thing. She has to grade you and stuff. Don't open it, she's the one supposed to."

Ah. ...And no, you're not going to fuck your client, for the last time. You're not Kharn.

Sure, she had her crazy, but she was also pretty simple to get along with." A moment. "There was Malal, her Equerry, too. She was..." the Eversor frowns, here. "Well, she was a bit uptight? But she was very good. If Malal was on the job, you'd bet your ass it was as good as done." She laughs, here. "I wish I could be half as good, you know? Being the new Equerry and all."

There are a lot of heat exchangers performing heat exchange in all the little incubator homes that will make heat go equal amongst everything and because of this if the magical girls with their magical negative efficiency that makes heat differentials greater heat will be equalized amongst everything within three years.

>>
>>27740809
There's no benefit in it now for either of them.

Malal had her own reasons for keeping the secret. I get the feeling that we owe her enough to keep silent.
>>
>>27740823
We should bring our full entourage, it can be a team-building exercise. Our equerry, our aide, and maybe our secretary.
>>
>>27740840
Yeah agreed, let's save it for some other time. Maybe another post-mission party or some appropriate bonding moment.
>>
>>27740823
With our Time Stop currently disabled, and since we want to test out either the chainaxes or the GDEagle which could end with the package we're supposed to secure damaged, I think it's more prudent if we have Sayaka come along to grab the target and escape with it while we make a mess of the facility and its defenders.
>>
>>27740809

Was Sayaka even friends with Madoka in this universe?
>>
>>27740840
Actually, going futher, it's really a dick move and somebody already brought that up.

'In any case, your further squirreling about the package reveals what looks like a small white envelope, unsealed. Inside is what looks to be a small wallet-sized picture of a girl with pink hair and crimson eyes, wearing a magical girl costume that was very, VERY familiar. It was obviously a self-taken photo, seeing as the girl was holding a smartphone up with one gloved hand - the other holding a sideways V sign with her fingers over her right eye. A forced smile on her lips.

You turn the photograph over, and you see something written at the bottom.

>No one must know my secret.

>Kaneda Madoka'
>>

>>
>>27740852
Actually, I'm thinking we send Sayaka with Midorin next mission, and see what Kyoko makes of Midori.

We trust her with our life, but when we vouched for her with Kyubey, that's all that was at stake. As Warmaster it'd be good to get a little outside perspective.
>>
>>27740874
>Was Sayaka even friends with Madoka in this universe?
Yes. Madoka was a biker delinquent in this timeline, and taught Sayaka how to break noses and fend for herself.
>>
>>27740874
Yeah, Madoka got her into metal and fightan.
>>
>>27740690
[X] heh, speaking of Malal you know she had pink hair? Found an old picture of her in that servo skull box I got, dressed up like one of those goth loli cosplayers and all

I think you are closer to her than you realize, what you haven't realized is that the equerry covers up for the warmasters shortcomings, Kharn's were that she was great at fucking, fighting and not much else that's why Malal did so much

I thought the secret was she dressed up in her proper costume which I expect was actually her costume now

We know the callidus suits aren't their contract costume, it is a thing Kyubey made with Malal and so because Malal became so know in her suit and as a hardass she never wanted anyone to know that she actually had the frilliest, pinkest, cutest outfit ever
>>
>>27740950

Pinky, Faust and Godoka should all be abstract concepts. The cost of this is that Madoka shouldn't have a physical presence at all in any universe.

When the cycle was broken this universe got a Madoka back.
>>
>>27741039
I think being a delinquent would be enough reason for her to hide having the frilliest, pinkest, cutest outfit ever. It just isn't this Madoka's style.

Was supposed to... but I'm guessing it's something like Godoka being unable to affect previous failed timelines, or universes where she's already dead.

Infact, I suspect she can't even really save the universe from her own witch. I suspect that what we got is actually a new stable time-loop resulting from the interaction of Madoka and Homura's wishes.

Homura delivers her shield to Madoka on Walpurgisnacht, and Godoka uses it to borrow the power of her incarnation in the next universe, which is enough to stop the witch in the current universe.

In the next universe, the cycle is repeated. again and again... until something breaks it.

Homura in each universe acts as Madoka's physical avatar... which is why she's granted the power of Godoka's bow.

You slap the envelope against your free hand a couple of times. You don't really remember Malal as well as you should. What does Sayaka remember of the last Equerry, anyway? Besides being uptight and shit.

"Huh. Oh, yeah, you don't, right?" Sayaka blinks at you. "Even though you three were pretty much inseperable half of the time. That kind of sucks, but...hmm." The blue-haired Eversor thinks for a moment here, her brow furrowing. Looking as if she's taking this very, very seriously.

"She's just...ah, well, I'll go right out and say it. She reminds me of a friend I had back then, years ago, back when I was still studying." She looks at you. "You know that kind of friend where even if everybody else seems like they're out to get you, that friend'll be there by your side, no matter what? The kind that won't stab you in the back, no matter how badly you fuck up?"

That sounds like some kind of friend.

"I had a friend like that once," Sayaka says, looking down on her hands clasped on her lap. "I won't bore you with my life story, Murderface, but Malal reminded me of her. ...Not that we were close and stuff, but it was like, she was that kind of friend for Kharn." She pauses here for a moment, looking at you. "I guess she was that person for you, too. I was...yeah, I was kind of jealous of you about that back then."

The Eversor looks back down, deep in thought. "She just paid a lot of attention to shit. Doesn't miss a single detail, whether it's organizing an Officio-wide celebration or a synchronized op involving ten squads. Rumor was it she wasn't really a Magical Girl under the Culexus suit, but a machine."

She shakes her head. "I don't know if I'll ever get to match up to that, Murderface. I fucking hope you picked the right choice."

>>
>>27741743
Man, why wasn't Kharn's emblem the Skull and Pantsu?
>>
>>27741796

You smirk at this, before shaking your own head. She shouldn't even think about that kind of stuff. You didn't pick her to be your Malal - you picked her to be your Sayaka. Someone who's not afraid to tell you what she thinks about things, especially about the potentially stupid shit you're about to do. Thinking about trying to live up to Malal, well - there's really no faster way to fuck herself up, really, and you're not ready to see Kyoko go through that kind of grief.

Besides, she's already catching up to Malal, if it's being a tightwad that's in question. She's probably halfway there already.

You get a punch in your arm for that, but also a rather embarrassed grin from the Eversor. "...Thanks, Murderface. I kind of needed that."

[+ 200 Sayaka Points! ]

You shake your head at this. You didn't get to thank her enough for healing you, so this evens it out, at least.

"Yeah, I guess." It's here that she yawns. "Right, I'll go and catch some sleep. Enishi and Squad Hiryu's taking up guard duty again, so we can probably take it easy for now. I'll make sure to wake you up in case anything happens, though."

Right.

...By the way, her friend. Did she have a name, or what?

"I didn't get her first name, she disappeared before I could even bring it up. Last name's Kaneda, though." It's here that Sayaka levers herself off the couch. "Why? You know anyone by that name?"

...No, you shake your head. Not particularly. It doesn't ring a bell.

"Figures." Sayaka lets out a sigh. "I don't know where she is. Maybe she's overseas, maybe she's dead. I wish I could at least thank her for everything she's done for me." She sniffs here, a bit, before laughing. "Christ, listen to me. I never thought I'd tell you about that, of all people. Still, it...feels nice to talk about it." The Eversor looks at you, before nodding. "Thanks, Murderface."

Don't mention it, you tell her. And your name's Chiaki.

[2/3]
>>
>>27741813
I know Malal must have her reasons, but god damn it.
>>
>>27741813

"Yeah, yeah. G'night." She leaves the room, closing the door behind her - just in time for Ruri to loudly proclaim that she's done, bursting out of the bathroom in an explosion of steam, towel cloth and blow-dried green hair long enough to touch the floor. You take your own towel - and the pajamas you'd used last night - and make for the bathroom without another word. Mulling everything you've learned, here.

...So Sayaka knew Malal before she became a Culexus? That's...well. The painful coincidence makes you cringe as you shower, meticulously scrubbing the dried blood and dirt off your body. If Sayaka finds out that she'd just spent her entire career serving beside her best friend and not knowing it, and also finding out that her best friend died without her being able to mourn her properly...even you can tell that'd wouldn't exactly be a good time. Malal - or Kaneda - must have known, and decided to keep quiet about it, instead.

You can't even fathom what kind of self-control that took, to resist the temptation, not to mention the guilt, of keeping your identity secret from everyone, including your best friend. It must have torn the Culexus apart.

You'll just have to make sure her secret's safe, then. Just like the photograph swore.

You finish your shower a handful of minutes later. You even used the hairdryer like Mami had taught you. You forgo setting your ponytail, letting your hair hang down your back for now, since you'll be sleeping how normal people sleep for the night.

Stepping out of the bathroom, you come upon the scene of Ruri straining to get your comforter ready. By that you mean, the idol trying her level best to pull the rolled-up futon out of the closet. You shake your head and help her do the rest.

[3/4]
>>
>>27741831
>I know Malal must have her reasons, but god damn it.
Telling her now would just fuck her shit up. All she'd be able to do is wonder why Malal didn't tell her, and there's no-one left to answer.

Not telling her now is a kindness, of a sort.

"Haah! Thank you, Chiaki-chan! That comforter was a monster!" Ruri lets ou an exhausted sigh, dropping back down on her bed. You shrug at this, fluffing up the pillow that came with the comforter with both hands, before settling into your temporary sleeping arrangements for the night. Taking off your glasses and placing them on the carpet beside your comforter, on top of the Warmaster Cap. The Desert Eagle, of course, is in its holster underneath your pillow, and the bangles clasped around both your wrists, still.

"You'll be okay like that, Chiaki-chan?" Ruri calls from the bed. "Isn't the floor kind of hard?"

It's fine, you tell her. In fact, you're used to sleeping while sitting down more. Lying down's a bit of a luxury for you. You'll manage, however.

"...Hee. That's kind of cool." You hear the idol murmur. Some rustling of bedclothes, and it's here that you see Ruri lean over the lip of her bed to peek at you. "Hey, Chiaki-chan?"

What? You squint at her, frowning. You were trying to get comfortable already, for fuck's sake. Does she need anything or what?

"Oh, no. No, nothing in particular." Ruri smiles, here. "Just, uh..." The superidol seems to hesitate, here. "Do you think having a relationship with a Magical Girl can really work out?"

...Does it look like you're the goddamn expert at that kind of shit? Really?

"Honestly? From what I keep reading about? Yes! I mean, Green Green's just about admitted that you're the one she based Murder Mayumi on, plus there's all the stories I keep hearing..."

Just because it's on print doesn't mean it's true, you remind her.

"Well, just humor me! Just think that you're my big sister or something like that. What do you think? Or should I just, you know, hypothetically, if I was in the one in the relationship - should I just cut it off and go for a rich, normal guy instead?"

If our life expectancy wasn't in the single digits I would say yes. But that isn't the case. Those of us who manage to stay alive as long as we have, aren't the same kind of "person" that would fit into a normal healthy relationship. Not playing the wounded bird that needs healing card here, normal people cannot handle the shit a MG drags in. If that MG was any kind of decent, she wouldn't want to put it on anyone either.
>>
>>27741902
[X] It's a terrible truth but the only people who should be around magical girls are other magical girls

We don't live like everyone else, we don't even get to retire like everyone else. Your life might be dangerous because of everyone wanting you but for us our lives are dangerous because everyone wants us dead.

If you aren't fighting some unknowable monster bent on killing innocent people you are fighting zealots or even just people who had the bad luck of drawing the same job as you but on the opposite side.

And this all comes back, to us a relationship is something that an enemy can exploit. So if you drag someone into this world then you are signing their death warrant, no matter how much you care, how much you vow to protect them it is eventually going to get them somehow

It hurts, but finding a nice rich guy and settling down comfortably beats the hell out of living a short life with a magical girl, no matter how much you love them and they you there is a cost for it, and it is too high for anyone who truly cares about another to pay

So yeah, probably a good idea finding a rich guy, you might even be able to buy yourself an island to live on or something

Big Sister? You don't even have a real sister, for fuck's sake. How can you even pretend to be one, when you don't know what it actually is to be one in the first place?

...

Well, there's Misaka, sure, but...

You grumble something underneath your breath, before you pull up the comforter's bedcovers up to your neck. Fine, you'll playing along. But first - who is it, anyway, that Ruri is so 'hypothetically' attached to? Maybe you know who it is.

"...Promise you won't tell anyone?" Comes the super idol's voice from the bed.

You snort at th is. Fine, if she's not comfortable sharing the name, then a brief description will do.

"A hero, Chiaki-chan." Ruri breathes this out into the airconditioned cold of the room. "She's...someone kind and strong and brave. She never thinks about herself or her safety - she just does the kind of thing you'd expect Superman to be doing, if he was actually real."

...What, like saving kids from burning orphanages and all that?

"Sort of." Ruri giggles here. "She just...does it. The rescuing thing, the saving thing. All the superhero stuff. And I don't think she's got an Officio like you, or all the other Magical Girls I've encountered. She always works alone, and she never takes any reward money or anything like that."

Sounds...well, remarkable. And a bit stupid, really.

"Is it, really?" The idol's tone of voice is pensive, here. Quiet. "Isn't she doing what Magical Girls are actually supposed to be doing, Chiaki-chan? Helping people, rescuing people? Protecting everyone's hopes and dreams?"

Only in anime and manga, you tell her. That shit doesn't fly in real life. It's never as simple at that.

"...And here I thought you'd actually think she was cool, too." Ruri sniffs, here. "You disappoint me, Chiaki-chan."

>>
>>27742786

Well, you're going to disappoint her further, then. Because if she's asking you if it could work out, a relationship like that, with her and that superhero wannabe? Your answer is simple - it's not. One way or another, one of them is going to get hurt, and the other left alive will have to live with it the rest of their life. Nothing is worth that kind of suffering - she should just look for that normal guy with the deep pockets. At the very least, she'd be able to get a personal island out of the bargain.

"...Hmph. I also thought Chiaki-chan was going to say something different. I guess that's also disappointing." The idol sighs. "I'll...I guess I'll think about it. I'm probably not going to change my mind, though!" It's here that she leans over to look at you again. "And not a word about this to the media, okay, Chiaki-chan?"

Right. Fine. Now can you sleep, at least?

"Of course! Goodnight, Chiaki-neechan~!"

She ducks back out of view, and you glare at the spot where she'd only been a few moments ago. Shaking your head, you close your eyes and try to get back to sleep.

You open your eyes a moment later, and it's here that you remember to toss the manila envelope over the bed.

"Eh? What's this?" Ruri asks, confused.

Feedback response, you tell her. Something about her having to grade your performance throughout the mission.

"Really...? Cool! I'll fill it up tomorrow and give it to you just before we leave, is that okay?"

Sure. That'll be fine, you guess.

"Perfect! Now shutting down, running Sleep Subroutine 2.0!"

....What?

"Hahaha! Just kidding! Goodnight again, Chiaki-neechan!"

...Fucking idols. Seriously.

You close your eyes just as the lights are turned off - and you immediately fall asleep, dreaming about fallen angels with green hair the color of the devil's blood.

...At least you're getting decent sleep for once.

Is the prospect of having Midori take Vindicare and Eversor training on the table?

Also, when are we going to see Misaka again? We need some Bolt Pistols!

Its this world`s Akemi Homura. This is also why Ruri was so interested in Chiaki and wanted her personally to be her bodyguard, because they look similiar and all.
>>
>>27742884
QB is listed as having an S-Rank Ethics. What are the other Incubators ranked at?
>>
>>27742901
This isn't the first time it's been hinted that she's a robot. I personally still think she is.
>>
>>27742884
God DAMN that arc. No more Idol missions, please.

Still was good all around. Are we taking our well-deserved break next or another flash back? My write up should be done by then!
>>
>>27742884

Is Wendy Ruri's Girlfriend?
hahaha!

Does the diary passwords only use letters or are there other keys?
>>
>>27742877
I'm not saying it IS Yuu. It just sounds like her Modus Operandi.
>>
>>27742914
I think they are a nice change of pace every now and then
This one wasn't as painful as the Iori campaign anyway

And now to speculate as to just who is this mysterious meguca going around righting wrongs and being a superhero so we can beat the golden weapons out of them
>>
>>27742884

thanks for running!

why did you decide to go with Protoculture this time?

Thread has been archived, see you all next time.
>>
>>27742884
Hooray! No more idols ever again.
>>
>>27742884
Are we ever going to get a Kharn as Kamen Pantsu flashback?
>>
>>27742921
Yuu is the only magical girl we've met so far without an Officio, which suggests that it may be the same Incubator. There can't be too many of them doing the rounds like that.
>>
>>27742939
>ever again.
We can hope.
>>
>>27742896

I'm guessing we are going to do some officio work for the next thread. Debriefing, picking out weapons for the next mission, asking our rank leaders about any leads, getting information from QB about what large groups of magical girls we pissed off, and most importantly, forming our party for the smash and grab.
>>
>>27742914
I like missions like this where /tg/ can't just murderhobo its way through the operation without a care for collateral damage.
>>
>>27742950
What was that Officio where we accidentally three of their Eversor squads again?
>>
>>27742953
Me too, but I also like having a character I can lewd to vent my frustrations, but we didn't have one this time around.
>>
>>27742884
What would have happened if we slept in the same bed as Ruri?
>>
>>27742966
That was the third.
>>
>>27742966
Third.

It no longer exists, having been assimilated into ours.
>>
>>27742939
Hahahahahahahah

And I'd be all for no flashback this time, it wasn't really a proper 'huge shit goes down' arc that needs a break afterwards, and I'd also love to get started on the next one quickly.

>Miku with boobs
>Depressed Kaguya virgin rankmaster
Like hell there weren't people to lewd. We could have slept with everyone on that list if we played our cards right.
>>
>>27742953

I think we should go to the 8th sometime after this next mission or after we kill the prophet. I don't think we will see much action. Mainly just rubbing elbows and introducing ourselves as the new Warmaster of the 9th.

Gotta see if they know anything about golden weapons.
>>
>>27743004
Except for the fact that

WE

ARE

NOT

KHARN.

Nor do we want to be.
>>
>>27742953
I kind of prefer them, it was just the nature of this that was all wrong. First off, guard duty is tedious in real life, and that reflects in a quest, especially when it's for more than, say escorting someone from A to B over a day. Secondly, missions are always better with interesting interactions and intriguing characters, but a lot of different things made most of the characters here not as appealing or interesting as other missions I'd say.
>>
>>27742973
>>27742984

Thanks. Lucius as an ex-Third Officio who was taken up under the Prophet out of spite doesn't seem far-fetched in my opinion.
>>

Ruri never got my lewd going, so maybe you're right.

Close! It's a flashback about a certain Culexus!

>>27742903

I can confirm that no, it's not Wendy.

And no, numbers and symbols are okay!

So I'm guessing that's a yes for Midori becoming a Badass Secretary then?
>>

Aw hell yeah, time for Omegon.

>"...And here I thought you'd actually think she was cool, too." Ruri sniffs, here. "You disappoint me, Chiaki-chan."
"Trust me when I say it's just not logistically practical to do the independent do-gooder thing"

Damn these people and not knowing about how much of a catch 22 being a magical girl really is.

You can't do that kind of shit without a steady supply of Grief Seeds, and to get them efficiently you really need the support of an officio.
>>
>>27743078
No. Bad anon. That one belongs to Sayaka.

Really? I'd say it's because /tg/ can't handle getting trolled or having their collective noses tweaked than anything else.
>>
>>27743032

Not to me. When that whole thing was brought to light imagine how it looked to the other girls of the third.

>Their Warmaster willingly let 3 squads and 100 of their comrades just die for the sake of some dark blood ritual for The Blessed Lady
>They want to vent their anger, confusion, and frustration
>They find that Kharn is one of the Blessed Ladys chosen shortly after integration
>The wound of betrayal from their Warmaster is still fresh, they don't want the same thing to happen again
>Leads to the event that QB said almost got us killed
>They decide to lay low, but never let go of that hatred The Blessed Lady
>We become the prime target since we are basically the Blessed Lady's arbiter(shield maiden) and took part in slaying droves of their friends.

I can totally believe that there is some segment of the third that was able to find out the whole truth, and decided that they want nothing more than to entirely screw up w/e grand scheme Pinky has in the works. And feeling entirely justified in doing so.
>>
>>27743128
I agree, I thought the characters were interesting but /tg/ gets REALLY MAD when they're not on top of things. But I guess I thought it was interesting BECAUSE we were partly at the whims of a capricious and kind of manipulative client.

There aren't many lewds I would brave Midori's jealousy for.
>>
>>27743157
I'm with the Purp on this. Some people let their autism and shadowruns get the better of them long after it became obvious Ruri was just fucking with us.
>>
>>27743128
They might have if it came from someone they A: weren't obligated t stay around, and B: was actually a MG. Plus, it's not like Ruri was the only one - Tomoko and Kyousuke were pretty boring, and the Yakuza were shitty antagonists that we couldn't even kneecap without considering the consequences since they don't regenerate.
>>
>>27743181
I liked them so fuck you and fuck your Nah. its cool, brah, Opinions, right?
>>
>>27743181
Actually, I liked both Tomoko and Kyousuke.

I'd be well inclined to work with Kyousuke's security firm again, actually. They're solid rank-and-file security and non magical support that seems to fly under the radar of other Officios.

Of course I may be biast because they're the first security detail I recall working with who didn't turn out to be working for the other team.
>>
Personaly I disliked Ruri at first but she kind of grew on me over time.
