>Sorry it took me so long to bring this back but University is kicking my ass, I actually might also do some work while doing this so updates might be a bit long but I'll do what I can.

Anyway let's get this started shall we? Hopefully I'm not too rusty for this.

----

You have had a busy couple of weeks after receiving your patch of land from the Headmaster in which was located about a stone’s throw away from the girl’s dormitory began construction on a place to live. While the pile of hay and your sleeping kit were adequate enough but to have a place of your own will allow you to start on several projects that you were planning on starting.

Highest Roll: 20+1= 21

Construction went faster than expected as you gathered woods from the forest to construct the walls and roof of your cabin. Marteau, Siesta, and the various help hearing your ‘triumph’ over a triangle class mage gathered to help you out though in exchange you had to recount the tale to them.

What you haven’t expected was Guiche (after deciphering his flowery speech) volunteered to help you in your construction as you mentioned to him off handedly about making a basement for a workshop. He and his familiar which was a giant mole named Verdandi helped moved the dirt to create a large enough hole in the ground to create decent workshop. Once your order for stones came in you were able reinforce the foundation and adding in some support beams could easily hold your home and be able to endure any potential accident that may happen when you work.

Once the basement was completed all was left was to seal the stone basement with a wooden floor leaving a small opening for a concealed set of stairs and put the walls and roof together and reinforce it so it will last. After craving a couple of windows and an entrance you finally constructed a cabin in which will be your base of operations for the time being. Of course you have no real furniture for the time being except for a few gifts that your friends had given you as house warming gifts. You’ve gotten a small research table from Professor Colbert, a couple of small shelves from Tabitha and Kirche, an iron pot that could probably fit a person inside from Marteau, some seeds from Siesta to start a small garden, and the straw bedding that you used back in her room from Louise.

After all that’s said and done you managed to create a very solid dwelling for yourself after removing yourself from your pile of hay and sleeping kit in your new home you begin your day.

>Start working on the garden, if Guiche continues to help, tell him thanks, and say if he needs anything for all the help he is giving (why is he doing it anyway?).

>>

Ever the early riser you decided to implement to fully utilize the seeds Siesta gave you and decided to work on a small garden so you grab your engineering kit and headed outside.

Highest Roll: 12+1= 13

Overall it took you a little longer than expected then again you aren’t a farmer by trade so that’s to be expected still you knew how to dig holes so it wasn’t too bad. A couple of hours had passed and you’re pretty sure the seed placement was a bit sloppy but it was done. However, you gotten yourself dirty from all the planting and you’re pretty sure Half-Pint will be heading towards breakfast soon.

>>27747773

After that we should probably take stock of the tasks we want to do. A to-do list of sorts if Lousie has nothing for us to do.
>>
>>27748159
Nah, school is getting harder and if I tried to open up a quest, I probably wouldn't last an hour so I needed to find time,

Sorry, for the slow update. Trying to get back on the swing of things
>>
hey this quest is back nice to see you
>>
Considering the fact that you’re rather dirty and the fact you can imagine heading into the dining room and seeing Half-Pint flushed with humiliation before unleashing a wizard’s version of an artillery barrage within a roughly confined area is not something you want to experience in the morning. You decided that you’ll go to the next best place.

Marteau’s Kitchen.

After doing some minor washing up of your hands and face you casually walked to the kitchen and judging by the smell it’s in full work mode. The variety of smells that waters the mouth as it enters your nostrils making you feel relaxed through your walk there. Once you reach the door and before you have a chance to knock, it slammed wide open and while the force were not hard in itself but it did manage to hit you in the face causing you to cradle it.

“Got to go, got to go.” A slightly panicked voice muttered loud enough for you to hear while causing you to peak through your hands revealing it to be Siesta driving those blasted carts filled with food. “Yuri! I’m so sorry, I didn’t know someone was outside the door, I’m in a hurry.”

>What do you say or do
>>
>>27748715
"It's alright. It happens. What's got you in a rush anyway? Is it something that I might be able to help you with?"
>>
>>27748777
This
>>
>>27748777
This is what I would go with
>>
>>27748777
I agree this is good
>>
“It’s alright.” You muttered while raising one hand to calm her while the other is rubbing the bruise. “It happens. What’s gotten you in a rush anyway? Is it something that I might be able to help you with?”

She rapidly shakes her head before moving the food cart back and forth. “No, I can take care of this it’s just the regular breakfast rush and Marteau was trying out some new dishes so it took a bit longer than usual.”

She then takes a closer look at you. “Why are your clothes covered in dirt?”

“Oh, just making use of the seeds you’ve gave me and tried to make my own garden.” You shrug. “It was harder than I thought.”

“If you needed help in making a garden you should’ve asked me.” She pouted. “I may not look like it but I’m a farmer’s daughter.”

Before you said anything else Marteau’s called out telling the maid to get back to work.

“Ri-Right! I got to go!” She said while she began running with the rolling cart. “Talk to you later.”
You raise an eyebrow at her retreating form and silently hope she doesn’t hit anyone else with that cart.

>Anything you want to do or say?
>>
>>27749427
I'd say clean ourselves up a bit and then go meet the half-pint
>>
>>27749427
Probably offer to help with the kitchen, then grab breakfast when the rush is over.
>>
>>27749427
Find half-pint and tell her we are going to help out the kitchen if she doesnt have any urgent event that needs us, we are sorta repaying the kitchen for helping us with the house/presents.
>>
>>27749427
Clean up a bit before going into the kitchen for food. I bet there are leftovers of his experimenting on the new dishs.
>>
>>27749469
You already clean yourself up, it's just that your clothes are still stained with dirt.

So what is the consensus, find Louise first or meet with Marteau for breakfast.

>>

It wasn't a criticism. I was just stating the facts. I don't mind that this is a slower quest. It's nice to have something I can check in once in a while and know it will still be up. From the beginning you've said that you had a lot on your plate. I'm actually surprised you have kept up with the quest. It's not like BlackJack during the heyday of laziness. He kept up the appearance of a normal quest while only posting once an hour plus.
>>
>>27750624
Well you decide best to leave her alone for now and while you should meet up with Half-Pint, she’s probably eating right now.

No sense in her being the only one.

You carefully open the door not wanting a repeat with Siesta with some other maid but fortunately that doesn’t happen. You see Marteau in front of his stove his eyes focusing on the contents of his frying pan, the smells of eggs and pork filling the room.

“It’s the warrior.” He turns his head around before putting the contents of scrambled eggs and slices of fried ham. “I knew you’ll be coming so I prepared some food in advance with the leftovers.”

If your clothes weren’t covered with dirt, you could hug this man right now.

“Thank you.” You said settling with verbal thanks. “For the food, the cabin, the gift, everything.”

He responds with a heavy slap to your back and a large bellow of laughter. “Don’t worry you’ve paid of fare wages for the work and it’s my personnel pleasure to cook so don’t mind it at all.”

“And the large pot?”

“What man will I be if I did not bring a house warming gift?” He responds before adding. “Also it was an old one which I was going to throw out anyway and thought you might find use of it.”

“I…I see.” You nodded before grabbing a fork before digging in.

>Anything you want to do or say
>>
>>27751171
Eat your food. Then see if you can't get some food so the 'we' can have a snack later.

And by 'we' I mean Sylphid. Secretly, of course
>>
>>27751171
"So...Siesta and I were thinking of having a baby, do you know of any good carpenters for making a proper crib?" This is a joke.

"Thanks for the delicious food! How's things been going lately?" *just light talk, discuss about our little garden, the likes that even Musashi and Thorfinn would be proud of!*
>>

>>
>>27751497
Yes
>>
>>27751497
yup
>>
>>27751171
“How is your day been going for you.” You asked in-between bites of egg and ham.

“It’s been doing well.” She smiles as he washes his cooking utensils. “I’ve been brushing up on some new recipes for the event coming up.”

“Event?”

“That’s right there wasn’t a good time to tell you due to all the construction.” He said while stroking his beard. “The nobles are doing some fancy samcy contest and apparently some high ranking nobles are going to attend.”

“Contest?” You asked. “Like who can cast the most powerful spell or something.”

He shook his head in response. “They wouldn’t do something so low class or that’s what they would like to think. It’s basically a talent contest to show what their familars can do.”

Oh….

“Oh….” You said flatly both internally and outwardly already imagining what’s going to happen sooner or later. “And the high ranking nobles?”

“Not a clue.” He replied while shaking your head once again. “They’ll make some sort public announcement to the students later but for right now their keeping it a surprise but told me to sharpen my skills.”

He humphs in an offended manner.

“Like my skills aren’t already sharp.”

You raise your fork in agreement as your too busy swallowing the last bit of food. Once finishing the meal and washed your utensils you turn to look at the head cook.

“By the way, do you have by any chance any leftovers for me to take?” You asked the head chief who only smiles.

“You mean for that dragon.” He replied which you respond by the raise eyebrow. “It isn’t a secret, the maids and help often see you feed the dragon, making him do tricks.”

“He’s a she.”

“Right, right.” He said with a wave before handing you some bread. “A bit stale but it’s all I have for now should’ve asked after the breakfast rush.”

“Thanks Marteau.” You said with a nod before leaving the kitchen.

>What do you say or do now?
>>
>>27752438
I guess we should swing by Half-pint and see if anything is up. After that we can then drop by Sylphid and drop off the food...secretly
>>
>>27752438
Feed Sylphed first then catch up with Louise. We're probably going to be preforming in this so we might as well brainstorm with her. Probably going to come down to us playing the guitar. Either that or making some improvised explosives and blowing something up.
>>
>>27752438
So who do we go see first, Slyphid or Louise?
>>
>>27752725
If we visit Louise first the chance is that we'll get roped into whatever it is that she wants us to do. I'll stick with feeding Sylphid first, but quickly.
>>
>>27752725
I'll switch to Sylphid first then
>>
>>27752725

Deciding that you could meet with Louise later and Slyphid could be starving by now you decide to meet with the latter. It didn’t take you long to find the blue dragon as it lay about near the Girl’s dorm looking a bit mopey.

“Hey Slyphid, I brought some food.” You called out to the dragon that instinctively perks her head up and charges right at you.

Charging you quite fast.

A bit too fast…

Oh shit.

>I thought about it but I've gotten used to this format though for certain things I may put options up but for now, I'l stick to this until it seems important.

Highest Roll: 18

Having already experienced this before you stared down the dragon until at the last minute in which you drop to the ground through the opening between her legs and tail. Surprised by your sudden movement caused the poor dragon unable to control her momentum tripped, tumbled, and rolled in a rather spectacular fashion.

“Kyuuuu.” Slyphid moaned in pain a small bump already forming on her head as tears welled in her eyes.

You almost feel bad for the poor dragon.
Almost…

“Kyuuu…” She moaned again the tears spilling over as she looked at you.

Damn it, now you feel bad.

“There, there.” You said trying to soothe the crying dragon while rubbing the place where the bump is. “Didn’t I tell you that doing that every time I bring food is bad?”

“Kyuuu.” She responded by reluctantly nodding her head.

“And you will try not doing this again right?” You asked looking at her expectantly in which she nodded a bit more vigorously. “Then that settles it.”

You smile and handed her the bread you got from Marteau which could tell she looked disappointed. “Sorry, this is all I could get this morning.”

She responded by giving you a big lick to the face before nibbling on the bread.

After feeding the dragon you decided to clean yourself up leaving by doing the usual grabbing a bucket of cold water, wiping yourself down with a rag, and changing out of the civilian clothes to your usual uniform. Having gotten used to her schedule you walked to you remember that right now she has some class with Professor Kaita, a wind mage.

Just as you reach the classroom you see Tabitha slowly exiting from the room before closing the door and walking away at a brisk pace. Just as you were about to comment on you suddenly felt a strong vibration causing you to stumble a bit as a cloud of dust and smoke bursting the door Tabitha just closed wide open.

Not again….

You slowly walk forward to the entrance leaning your head forward to peek inside to see the damage and surprisingly none of the furniture appears broken the windows not shattered though everything is caked in a layer of dust especially at ground zero. Half-Pint being the center of it all looking more dust bunny then noble is covered in dust. The teacher somewhat dirtied with a wand out with a current of air surrounding him, his expression revealing nothing.

“It seems that your aptitude for the wind magic is sorely lacking Miss Valliere.” The instructor sighed. “However, this is within my calculations and if I had not set a buffer prior the damage will have been more severe thus you will not be punished please return to your seat.”

With nod she began walking to her seat the students all looking at her with a mixture of sneers, exhaustion, and relief.

Tsukaima Quest. My guilty pleasure.

Yes, it's actually quite good. Though the author's writing style is somewhere between this quest and proper English.

Guilty Pleasure? Why would this be a guilty pleasure? Hell I take pride in the face that I am helping make a quest better.

This is not exactly high-quality writing.
Compare it to Joker Quest, for example.

On the other hand, I do love the pub-like atmosphere in here. You join the thread, it's active for a few days and you can have a chat with the other lurkers while OP is posting an occasional update.
>>
>>27777016
I never said it was. But if you compare OP's writing from the beginning of the quest to now it has takes a couple good leaps forward in terms of the quality. It's no Lamia quest, stuffed to the guts full of story, plot, and character interactions, but at least OP hasnt made the characters cardboard cutout parodies of themselves. Like another quest I shall not mention. I've already bitched about one other quest in this thread and shall leave it to the one per thread.

But it shows in the writing that OP is actually trying to improve, and that alone is worth helping him along. Say nothing of the fact that I get a nerd boner of titanic proportions for anything Modern/Sci-fi meets Fantasy.
>>
>>27777062
>Say nothing of the fact that I get a nerd boner of titanic proportions for anything Modern/Sci-fi meets Fantasy.
I totally agree on that point.
Fuck, I want to drive my cheap car into a time vortex and come out one hundred or so years in the past.
And then I show those people my mobile phone, my tablet and the fact that plastic interior is considered cheap for cars.

It's funny how certain things would have stronger impact if you didn't go too far back.
During the Middle Ages, no one would be able to appreciate the insanity of a mobile phone... with the ability to do 7,000,000 calculations per second.
You would totally be considered a wizard, though.
Then again, I feel that I'm on my way to become one anyway.

I know, I have a long way to go and this is my first quest, so it's fine and i agree with what you said when my writing is not that great.

I didn't mean to sound sarcastic

>Sorry for the late post, had to meet with friends, eat, and I kind of took a power nap before finishing this off. Should be fine for the next few four though.

Knowing better than to stir a beehive or a barfight between two drunk soldiers which is essentially the same concept you decided to stand near the doorway trying not to gain attention to yourself as Kaita begins his lecture.
Or it should have been until the door open once more to reveal Professor Colbert.

In a ridiculous outfit that consisted with curls, tights, and strangely colored fabrics that looks gaudy as some sort of ugly painting and to top it off wearing a golden wig. The look on everyone faces ranges to surprised, disturbed, or barely restrained laughter.

You yourself don’t know whether to laugh, groan, or drink.

You’re really leaning towards the 1st and 3rd option though.

“How impressive.” Guiche said looking at Colbet’s outfit with such admiration that you can see a twinkly sparkle in his eye.

Scratch that, you just want to do the former but restrained yourself interested in what he has to say.

“Professor Colbert?” Kaita raised a brow.
“Ahhh! I’m sorry, please excuse the intrusion, Professor Kaita.”

“Class is in session.” Kaita tersely replied, staring at Colbert.

“Classes will be cancelled for the next few days!” He announced causing cheers to be erupted among the crowd. “For all of you that are aware the familiar talent contest that is coming up soon and that all of you are spending some time to prepare for it.”

It has already been announced? It must’ve been during the time you were building your cabin you were pretty busy during that time or nobody couldn’t find the right time to bring it up.

“However, the teaching has decided that due to a rather special guest is coming to this event that the next few days will be focused on polishing your routines.”
>>
>>27780159

“Who is the guest, isn’t it just some Tristinian noble?” Kirche asked in which Colbert proudly puffed up his chest in pride and in turn causing his wig to fall off causing laughter to erupt all around you included.

“Silence!” He ordered the students. “Only commoners laugh out loud! Nobles only covertly snicker with their heads down even if they find something funny! Otherwise, the royal court will question our school’s educational results!”

Everyone became silent.

“You mean?”

He nods. “Indeed, a member of the royal court or to be more precise the Princess of Tristain herself will be coming to observe the festivities and will even award the winner of the contest.”
With that the students erupted in a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and wonder as Colbert took the opportunity to step out after saying his little announcement but stops before looking at you. “If you have time please see the Headmaster and myself.”

With a smile, he straightened out his wig before prancing down the hall happily proclaiming the announcement to the students. It didn’t take long for the class to disperse probably to go their familiars to train their routine. Leaving only yourself and Half-pint who had somewhat wiped some of the dust off herself before staring at you with a serious glean to her eye.

“Yuri, we need to talk.”

>What do you say or do?
>>

Nod. "Of course. I can to talk anyways."
>>

>>
>>27780194

Also OP this is one of the times I would say it is alright to predict our actions. We've said before that we wanted to talk and telling us just to reconfirm it only slows down the plot. There are times when it is alright to predict the players actions and cut down the number of "What do" moments.
>>
You won’t be able to put her off with that look in her eyes so you took a seat at a nearby chair and decided to get straight to business. “So you want me to do something for this contest, right?”

She nods. “I would have mentioned this earlier but you were busy and it didn’t seem appropriate to bring up at that time.”

She also walks up and takes a seat in front of you. “However, I’m asking you to not only to join but I’m asking you to help me win.”

“That is quite a bold statement.” You said wistfully laying your chin on your open palm trying to make your expression as indifferent as possible. “All things considering.”

“A noble must be bold.” She stated as a matter of fact staring at you with expectation. “Will you do it or rather will you win?”

You pondered for a moment and considered doing something for the event before giving your reply. “I could but I don’t think my chances of winning very likely or even slim at best.”
“What why?” Her eyes widen as she scowled.

“Suppose that I do.” You sighed for various reasons but considerate to you benefactor. “I am a man of few talents and considering who I’m up against like Kirche’s fire lizard and Tabitha’s dragon anything I might do will come up rather mundane don’t you think?”

Sure, you could do something exotic like blow up the stage or maybe shoot a target with your rifle but due to your limited ammunition that will seem rather wasteful. You could try to make something or play your guitar but again with something exotic as a fucking dragon it will seem very plain.

Even if that dragon seems more like a very smart dog or pet then scaly mythological beast…

“That doesn’t matter!” She stands up from her seat looking at you excitedly. “We must win and impress the princess didn’t you stood up to Guiche and Forquet surely you could come up with something more amazing?”

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>27782477

"I'll see what I can do but unfortunately I cannot promise anything. Most of my talents revolve around the tools of war. And while my skill with a guitar is formidable it does kind of pale in comparison to some of the other familiars. And I doubt anyone would believe anything I tell them of my homeland. (Nor that it would go over well with nobles.)

And if I might ask is there a specific reason you wish to win so hard? I can understand outdoing Kirche due to the feud between the two of you.

All that aside i will see what I can do, however my fallback plan for everything will be my guitar playing. I will not waste my munitions on something not critical."

as a note for ideas I can think of some quick ones we could probably do given a weeks time. Involving some quick easy chemistry. Such as using ethanol or any sufficiently concentrated alcohol to make an impromptu fireball spell in a bottle. Or simply lighting our hand on fire. Or a simple rough batch of powder (if we put the ENTIRE week towards it)
Maybe a citrus battery or something.
>>
>>27782728

(Why does it keep cutting off the first part of the name?)

Actually some simple grade school science experiments might actually work. Either that or putting our engineering work towards I don't know building a trebuchet or some sort of structure. (Although I don't know if we could pull off something like that in a week or less with just one person. Maybe a small one.)

YES, I SUPPORT THIS

WHAT SORT OF THINGS DO WE KNOW?
MAYBE, SOME THING LIKE SALT CREATION.

>>
"I'll see what I can do but unfortunately I cannot promise anything.” You replied before sipping your wineskin. “Most of my talents revolve around fighting or blowing stuff up kind of like what happen to this classroom.”

You gestured with your hand to the classroom with a small grin causing the Half-Pint to turn red with frustration and you assume probably reaching for her wand.

“Relax, it was just a joke I’m sure you tried your best.” You said offering her the wineskin. Blowing up stuff is a job that more or less makes you parch. “And back to my skillset while my skill with a guitar is decent it does kind of pale in comparison to some of the other familiars as I said before.”

She politely declined the flask but then looks at your pack though slightly less bulkier then when you first landed here still containing your explosives and ammunition deciding it is too risky to leave them in the cabin. “How about what you did to that golem?”

“You really want me to use explosives something in which from what I heard and seen are kind of famous for?” You replied causing the girl to flinch. “Regardless I have a limited supply of those and I rather not use it for something so…vain.”

“Vain! The Princess of Tristain is coming to this and you call it vain!” She replies shocked by your answer.

“Your princess, not mine.” You curtly replied causing the girl to fume again and then a thought hit you. “Why do you want to win so badly? I mean we can make a decent show with just a simple act why go through the extra trouble to impress?”

You waited a few seconds for her fuming to stop as she took a deep breath to calm herself before she looks at you with a depressed expression.

“I….the princess….” She briefly speaks but paused trying to find the right words. “The Princess and I are childhood friends and we often played with each other…”
>>
>>27785913
She stops nibbling her bottom lip. “She is one of the few friends I have and…I don’t want her to see me fail. To not see Louise the Zero but as Louise the Noble which she is a winner and not a failure.”

Oh so that’s how it is.

Today is a funny day.
America didn't kill itself and Windows 8.1 came out.
Fuck, I love 8.1. It fixes almost all of the issues that 8.0 had.
Though what pisses me off is how customizing the start menu now works. It's easier with the mouse, but more tedious with touch when it comes to small-scale changes.

Anyway, bump.

As a though on gear for ourselves something we can use in place of a rifle would be a repeating crossbow. Through application of our own knowledge of materials and mechanics (since a crossbow works on basic physics.) we should be able to produce one, then we can prepare special bolts it need bee. (Things like a glass tube with a contact explosive on the front.)

Also we will need a helmet.

As far as the familiar exhibition goes we should just do what we do best. And deliver a nice blow of culture shock via guitar. We can start off with something simple like

The water is wide
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_mcImD5fJ4

Then move onto something more of home.
Like Katyusha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRTYkzy2BOM
or Korobeiniki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz51mRUGiEk

Then finish with something really upbeat and furious. like The Song of the Golden Dragon.

The mechanism for loading the crossbow would need some kind of mechanical advantage. The draw tension would be far do powerful on a crossbow of conventional strength. In order to be pump action it would have to be one weak ass cross bow.

However, the idea could work with a levering action to gain a mechanical advantage, like a crack barrel bb gun

Seeing her in such a state is distresses something that you’ve seen a couple of times before when you were first summoned and seeing her small frame shake you did what you thought what was natural.

You’ve ruffled her head messing up her obviously well maintained hair.

“Wha-What are you doing!” She said trying to swat you hand away but considering that in terms of physical strength your hand has more strength then her entire small body. “Get off.”

"If she is as good a friend as you make her out to be then she will not think any less of you so long as you try your best.” You laughed still ruffling her head. “And doing your best for your friends and comrades is everything that the Tesenturian Guard stands for.”

She stops struggling for a moment to look at you. “Then…”

“I'll figure something out.” You sighed taking your hand off of her head leaving only a tangled mess. “Not sure that we will win but don't worry. Besides fancy and ostentatious is not always the best. It's the little things that people remember with clarity.”

Well then again after spending your time at the academy your pretty sure nobles practically scream fancy and ostentatious but its better not to say that out loud.

“That’s the best I can get out of you then?”
“Pretty much.” You shrugged as you see the Half-Pint trying to gain what little pride she has to build back her noble persona though with her hair looking like a mess and dust coating her like fine paint it was hard to take her seriously.

“Very well.” She said puffing her chest out as she begins to walk out of the classroom and probably to get herself fixed up. “I shall take what I can get.”

“Also, messing with a lady’s especially a noble lady’s hair is a great offense.” She glares at you as she runs her hand through her hair. “One that will not easily be forgotten.”

She turns around opening the door but pauses still facing away from you she muttered. “…and thanks.”

Then leaves her steps echoing on the stone floor and slamming of the door indicating she had truly left.

Recalling that Colbert told you that the headmaster wanted to have a chat you decided to meet with Old Man Osmond. Once you reach his office you opened the door revealing the Old Man going over some paperwork but immediately set it aside. “Hello, young man I hope you had no problems in coming to see this old man.”

“Not at all sir.” You replied offering a salute to the headmaster in which he just chuckled as he began to stroke his beard.

“Ever the serious one.” He said as he motions with one hand to be at ease. “You need to relax a bit more…”

He sighs as he leans forward. “So I have heard you have finished your cabin, it seems quite nice.”

“I had help if it weren’t for Marteau, Guiche, and the help I would not have been able to finish as fast nor make it as strong.”

“I see, I see.” He nods continuing stroking his beard. “Help from others is always good, having friends and comrades are always good.”

“Um Sir, is there something I can help you?” You asked normally it will be nice to humor the old man with mindless banter but you have stuff to do.

“huh? Oh Yes I do!” Osmond replies as he begins to fish something out of his robe. “I had managed to go to my old savior’s grave and managed to recover that ‘dogtag’ you had mention before.”

He pulled out small rusted chain and tag and sets it on the table.

“However, I cannot read the wording either that over the years the wording had faded into the rust or the language is unreadable to me I had hope you can tell me his name.”

Yea, but military dog tags are built to be pretty much indestructible, It'll take several lifetimes for them to corrode to the point where they're irrecognizable.

That is unless you dump them into an oxidizer or something.

Dog tags aren't made of Iron, they don't rust. Anything that looks like rust on dog tag can be safely chipped off, because the Dog Tag itself will not rust, the chances are if there's rust on the dog tag it came from somewhere else.
This is a corroded Dog Tag from WW1 era, it's still in readable condition despite the fact that the letters were engraved instead of pressed, which means they don't stay readable as long.
>>
>>27805637
Even if dumped in Gastric acid, which is the worst the human corpse can throw at it, Dog Tag will not deteriorate to permanently unreadable condition.

You look at the piece of metal on the Old Head Master’s desk from where you were standing before getting closer and taking a seat to properly look at the dogtag.

Highest Roll: 14

You can make a few of the lettering but whatever is attached is making it hard to see.
However…

"Stainless steel won't rust in normal conditions and even if they're rusted somehow, the dog tags made after the first world war had letters pressed into the steel, rather than engraved, meaning that the letters persist until the entire thing is rusted to the core, which could take hundreds of years without the aid of chemicals." You mumbled and whether or not the Headmaster overheard you he didn’t show it. "Just gotta rub some alcohol to get the dirt off and it should be good as new."

You take your wineskin and poured it onto the dogtag and grabbing a nearby rag you begin to clean the dogtag.

Bonus=+4

Highest Roll; 14 + 4 = 18

The Dogtag looks good as new and you could clearly read the writing on it now.

“Name is Richard J. Jones.” You mumbled slowly read the identification. “Service Number: RA41253618, Blood Type: O-Positive, Religion: Catholic.”

Judging by the identification, the M72-LAW, and the timespan in which Osmond has roughly given you it confirmed our suspicions of Osmond’s Savior being an American soldier from the Vietnam War.

….But how did he get here? Osmond said he was mortally wounded when he saved his life did he get those wounds from fighting prior to being sent or fending off whatever creature this world has after being sent here?
>>
This raises more questions than answers.

And seeing as the man has been dead for over thirty years and was buried 6-feet under your probably sure that this is a dead-end for now.

“…Richard J. Jones.” You look up to see Osmond mutter these words repeatedly his gaze softens as he looks at the dogtag. “For all these years, I’ve always referred to him as my savior but to finally hear and say his name is a little strange.”

He wipes a stray tear off his eye with his finger before looking at you. “However, now he can have a proper grave with his name on it and I can finally greet him properly whenever I visit him, Thank you.”

You nod mentioning that it was no problem and just as you were about to get out of your seat to leave, Osmond motions you to stay put.

“I will like to give you something as thanks for helping this old man and his requests.” He said with a peaceful look in his eyes and gestures as he rummaged below his desk before pulling out a bag and laying it on his desk. “So with the utmost respect to his body, I have found something while searching for his identification that may interest you.”

“Do you want it? If not I’ll try to find something else as thanks but I felt it appropriate to give to you.”

“Thank you sir. I know I would want anybody who found me to do the same.” You smile at the old man as you pull out your own dogtags “Dying and not even leaving a name is a terrible thing.”

The Old Man looks at you curiously taking what you just said or rather how easy you said them but doesn’t comment instead you remember a tidbit about Jones which you should probably honor.

“I also suggest if you want to properly honor his grave you should engrave a cross somewhere on his tombstone.” You mentioned to the Headmaster and as he raises his brow questioning it. “It’s custom according to his traditions and what his Dogtags says.”

You leave out that it’s his faith but you don’t know much of the whole ‘Founder’ deal or how aggressive they could be to different faiths so you don’t bring it up. The Headmaster buys it and nods his head once again agreeing to have one engraved onto his tombstone and motioning you towards the rather bulky bag.
Wondering what he could have dug up you unwrap the gift.

Rolls: 8, 19, 20.

And are surprised to see an almost perfectly intact M3 Submachine gun while there are a few scratches here and there but no rust even after being buried with a corpse for more than thirty years. You look at a small stack of box magazine containing 30 rounds and estimate 210 rounds in total.

Jones probably didn’t even fire a single shot except for shooting that dragon with his M72-Law.

"M3 Submachine gun. American made. .45 caliber. ACP munitions, blowback action. Mr Osmand I must thank you. A gift like this matches the land of which I was gifted. Thank you sir."

*Salute again and exit*

"M3A1 Submachine gun. American made. .45 caliber. I will do my best to make sure the gun is used properly.”

You salute to the Old Man as he stares at you for a moment before smiling as he strokes his beard. “See that you do. Now off with you. Now that I’m down a secretary there is so much paperwork to do.”

You then turned around and proceeded to walk out the door leaving his office. Now that you’ve finish talking to the Headmaster it seems to be a little past noon so you head back to the cabin and put away your new submachine gun. After doing so you head towards Professor Colbert’s lab and after asking if he’s in, he opens the door.

Still wearing that ridiculous outfit.

“Oh, Yuri come in, come in.” He motions you in and offers you a seat as he sits across from you. “Now, do you recall mentioning about your runes being very unique?”

You nod.

That's actually pretty good for us as it was built to consume less ammunition and it's small enough to be used as a sidearm.

You lean back against your chair thinking back to all the fights you’ve had in this strange world until now which quite surprisingly consisted of only Guiche and Forquet. Both of them you think had felt something but again there was circumstances to both you could not quite pin down.

"Honestly sir. I have no idea. I may have, and I may not have. When I first fought with Guiche I didn't use any weapons.” You stated recalling that you did use a bayonet when you started out and became much faster but you but you were sneaking around so you couldn’t tell.

“And when I first responded to Fouquet’s intrusion my mind felt clear.” Despite your poor shots, how you work the bolt action on your rifle was faster than usual. “And when I fought her golem I was sort of in a haze, remembering sequences or maybe imagining them by the time I realize the Golem was nothing but rubble.”

You shake your head, trying to clear your mind.

“Maybe, I do feel some power or rather it feels more natural to me when I’m holding a weapon though I just thought it was just my training pulling me through.” You mumbled as you stare at the engraved markings on your hand. “However, that may not be the case is it? Is this what you came to talk about?”

He nodded as he grabbed your engraved hand and points at your familiar markings. “I did some research and considering both your skills in a fight, your summoning, and Miss Valliere’s …aptitude for the four magic elements.”

He pauses for a moment carefully thinking on how he should phrase these words.

“I think you could be the Gandalfr, a familiar who serves a Void User.”

"Errr... This might come as a shock to you, but regarding to my combat prowess, I didn't exactly do anything exceptional."
"Anybody in reserve guard could have been capable of doing what I've shown so far."

"It's not that I'm exceptionally good and magically powered supersoldier, it's just that you guys are living like 500 years in the past."
>>
>>27831809
I support this.
>>
>>27831214

“A what?” You said with a brow raised in confusion not entirely understanding what he’s talking about. Sure, you understand from some of the classes you listened to during Half-Pint’s classes that Void is a magic that has been dead ever since their savior the founder kicked the bucket. However, they don’t really mention his familiar though.

“Gandalfr is the familiar of the Founder who often protected him as he casts his magic. Apparently the Gandalfr had runes similar to yours, was a human, and had excellent combat prowess to skillfully use various weaponry.” Colbert explained before adding. “Also adding that Miss Valliere has…trouble with her practical lessons it could be she may have an unusual affinity.”

“Which could be the void…” You said filling in the gap to which Colbert nodded.

You guess it does make sense considering the situation but you can’t help but feel skeptical about the whole thing.

“This might come as a shock to you, but regarding to my combat prowess, I didn't exactly do anything exceptional." You said even though it was a little strange when you handled your rifle but overall you didn’t have any noticeable change. "Anybody in the Reserve Guard could have been capable of doing what I've shown so far."

“Well it’s just a theory; don’t think too hard about it.” He sighs obviously thinking he has hit a dead end in this theory of his. “If you feel anything strange let me know and don’t tell Miss Valliere about this, I rather not get her hopes up.”

You nod in agreement seeing that without any concrete proof this is just a baseless theory and something Half-Pint with her confidence issues does not need to hear.

>What do you say or do?

>Anything you want to ask Colbert?

>Also I’m consider of doing a timeskip soon, do you want to do it or finish the rest of the day?
>>
>>27833185
First we ask him about obtaining the materials for the gunpowder. I think rather than doing the grade level science for the show we should just stick with the guitar playing.

We are going to need sulfur and saltpeter. The charcoal we can get our self. As well as asking if he has a set of scales and or chemistry/distillation set.

"Should I try training with the sword I have to see if there's a noticeable difference, I don't actually have any sword training so it would be easy to tell if something is different if I'm suddenly adept with it?" You mentioned to the Professor who brings a hand to his chin contemplating the idea.

“That could work.” He finally said after a brief period of silence. “But I suggest we try that out until after the contest, I’m sure that you and I will be busy over the next few days.”

You really wonder about that considering your options at the moment but considering since he’s part of the teaching staff you’re sure he’ll be busy over the next few days.

You nod in consent as another thing bubbled in your mind which was on the backburner for a while.

“Do you have any saltpeter, sulfur, and any spare research equipment that I can borrow?”

“Sure, I can lend you some equipment but why do you need sulfur and…” He stopped his sentence and his eyes widen for a moment before narrowing. “You not planning on making black powder are you?”

>What do you say or do?

>You could try to convince him but you’ll need a roll.

"I'm not going to lie ... yes I do plan on making black powder, but only to sell to the kingdom."
>>
>>27836325

The distillation kit is for making a drink from my homeland. Which I will gladly share with you should I get it made correctly. But yes. I will not lie the materials are for the creation of black powder. My style of fighting revolves around black powder, and I would prefer to be able to fight under my own power rather than relying on limited ammunition that comes through at these random points in time. And I shall not be letting it or the method of creation go beyond my own use.
As a side note Mr. Osmand recovered another weapon, this one is a much more modern construction with more complex machinery. If you would like to see it you are more than welcome too.

Black powder is a really powerful invention. It serves as an equalizer, negating magic, armor, and status. Unless we were directly supplying the crown with the materials I would say no, and even then. Unless the country is under the pressing threat of war I say no to selling it. And besides. We would need to prefect our own mixture before we begin selling it,

>>
>>27836500

We should not say anything about selling. Mainly cause we would not (and could not, even if we wanted too) sell the stuff on the market. We know the potential this stuff can do after all.
>>
>>27836670
It would, but we don't want to destabilize the political scene with a large amount of black powder. We don't want to make a repeat of what happened in Tesenturia happen here. one faction gives good weapons to one side which gives them a major edge over the other sides.

The distillation kit is for making drinks from my homeland.” You said as grateful as you are for Marteau’s generosity for the wine, it can’t replace the taste of Tesenturian booze. “Which I will gladly share with you should I get it made correctly though I will warn you that it is strong stuff.”

“That is not what I asked you, Yuri.” He replied his eyes glaring at you, his expression giving away nothing. “Why are you trying to make black powder?”

“I was getting to that, Professor.” You replied. “Yes, I will not lie to you that I’m trying to make black powder. My style of fighting revolves around black powder or rather weaponry based or similar to it.”

“Didn’t you buy a sword and knife not too long ago?” He asked. “Wouldn’t be too hard to buy a bow either though the training process will be a bit of a problem but other than that.”

“This is true.” You agreed with the mage. “However, I would prefer to fight with what I know best or as close to it as possible and I rather not rely on the limited ammunition I currently to see me through until I get home.”

You shrug.

“Even if Headmaster Osmond gave me a new gun to play with it still won’t be enough.”

“He what!”

“Yeah, he recovered it from his savior’s grave and thought it best that I hold on to it.” You said with a shrug and you could see that Colbert would what nothing but to message the temples on his head. “It’s a bit different then my revolver that I had shown you or the rifle for that matter if you want I could show it to you some time.”

“Perhaps…sometime later.” He said finally giving his urge to rub the temples on his forehead.

“So will you do it?” You asked hoping for the answer you’re looking for.

Also it will take some time to get them so I’ll probably acquire and give you some after the contest.” He emphasized in which you nod considering it is more for experimental purposes and you don’t have the means to get a musket.

“And the distillation kit?”

“Yes, yes that too.” He replied and giving you a tired smile. “but I’ll get the first taste of the drinkable batch.”

You nod again in consent and shake hands with the man as a deal is stuck.

After thanking the Professor for the Distillation Kit you set out to work on working on making a symbol of your homeland that doesn’t involve explosions, firearms, and charred tanks.

Booze.

Or more specifically Vodka one of the drinks often drunk by Tesenturian soldiers when off duty and while looked down upon sometimes during fighting. While the wine provided by Marteau is good stuff but it can’t replace the taste of booze back home. You hope to replicate the alcohol with the distillation kit you borrowed from Colbert and asking for the ingredients and parts to make the still from the Head Chef in exchange to sample what you make later.

The creation of a small still and the actual creation of the drink seem to go off without a hitch so you left it in the corner of your basement under observation for the next few days. In the meantime promising Half-Pint to somehow impress this princess but after seeing Kirche and Tabitha’s practicing their performances in which the latter are using the some of the tricks you taught the dragon via treats ever since meeting her. You’ve ended up downing your wineskin and admitting the futility in this endeavor as you began practicing your musical skills with your guitar.

Highest Roll: 18

In which didn’t turn out that bad as you practiced various songs from back home and even a couple Half-Pint recommended what was ‘appropriate’ for royalty during the next few days. Though her suggestions for music were to repetitive or too fancy for your taste but you did play well enough to attract a small crowd of the help and even a few nobles as well.
>>
However, you did had to cut a couple practices short in favor of threatening to hit Guiche with your guitar if he did not shut up or swoon as you play.

Just before daybreak on the day of the contest you’ve checked on the brew and began to distill it which for you who is new to brewery took a while to distill and finish the drink.
When you took a sample of it.

Highest Roll: 20

You feel your chest burns, your throat contracts a bit, and you stumble a bit from the kick….it’s nasty but it reminds you of home. This swill reminds you of the very cheap stuff the bartenders used to off if soldiers didn’t have much cash or were just pricks that day.
Well considering this is your first time and your limited production capacity this is the best you could do for now. Once bottling the stuff you had about a small barrel’s worth of crude vodka.

Once finishing you’ve got about an hour or two before meeting Louise in some welcoming ceremony for the princess.

>What do you say or do?

Drop off a bottle with Marteau and Colbert with the warning "Strong and it needs work." Then make sure our uniform is in a shape that would make a drill instructor proud. Then lament the lack of our side cap and or helmet. Then we can go meet Louise.

True and that might work, however I think that they might already know about it. Should ask Louise about it.
>>
Remembering your promise to the two people that made this…swill for lack of a better word and had two bottles filled with the stuff. Once labeling a warning in sloppy Tristain writing ‘ВОДКА: Strong and it needs work. Drink at your own discretion’ and handed off to a nearby maid who happened to wander outside your cabin to deliver it to them.

After dealing with that errand you focus on cleaning your uniform and making it presentable for even the most watchful of drill sergeant’s eyes though lamenting your lack of your helmet. Regardless you’re all dressed up and after eating breakfast you meet up with Half-Pint and join the growing crowd of people who gathered to welcome and see this princess. Where you meet up with Guiche, Monmon, Tabitha, and Kirche whom leans a bit too close to you.

“My, my, the musician is here.” Her sultry voice whispered causing Monmon looking slightly disgusted, Guiche tied between jealously and admiration, Tabitha is indifferent as always. Half-Pint looking like she is not up for this today just pushes her aside and leans forward to see a horse driven carriage pulled up near the entrance. The doors open up to see a slightly older man linking arms with a young woman who you assume to be the princess as he escorts her down a long red carpet that extends through the entrance to the main castle.

You’re honestly more impressed by how they can make something this long and wonder where they kept this then the actual figure that it’s made for walking on it.

“That’s the Princess of Tristain? Heh...I’m better looking than that.” Kirche mumbled. “Oh my dear, who do you think is prettier?”

Before you consider how to properly the redhead properly without ending up in her bosom. You’ve noticed that Half-Pint is staring her eyes as wide as the fancy plates in the castle at the older man who was escorting the princess through the crowd her face slightly red.
>>
However, that played second to what caught your eye. A person nearby the carriage that the princess just left from who stood out among a group of armored knights and fancy wearing nobles. You assume that they were extra bodyguards that escorted the princess here and was the only female among them but that didn’t catch your eye.

Nor was it the outfit that was different from the others who stood guard.

It was a small contraption made of wood and steel which was strapped to her sides alongside her sword.

A weapon you know very well.

It was a pistol.

Yuri will be glad to see another person with guns and experience with war as a child.
>>
>>27882075

Oh come now, she can't be THAT bad...right?
>>

>>27882206
She will immediately incorporate our information to her unit and we will receive nothing from it.

Congratulations, you have just strenghtened the monarchy and you didn't even get a t-shirt from it.

I don't mind making friends with Agnes, but don't start giving the world more efficient means to kill each other without a reason.

But I want to give Tristain a taste of home.
We want to be comfortable, after all.
>>
>>27882694
You know, there are ways to teach her to improve the effectiveness of her muskets without giving what could be regarded as a military breakthrough in the middle ages.

For example the Napoleonic tap loading, which greatly increases the rate of fire of smoothbore muzzle loaders.

I have to agree with>>27882469
on this. With the exception that we can show her but not let her take it for study. She's a medieval soldier not a scholar.
Remember home was not exactly comfortable. Home was a country locked in a long and bloody war. That was just starting to get up on it's feet. There would be much more conflict in the days to come as dissident factions would attempt to overthrow the new democratic government.

>>27882794
Do we know about tap loading is the question. If we were to pass down any one thing to them it would be riffling I think. Or shaped bullets.

How would something like a copper jacket ? What about if you used a shaped bullet rather than a ball?
>>
>>27882845
We probably wouldn't to be honest unless our country were in close cooperation with the french during napoleonic era.

Taploading can also be highly dangerous in guns that use larger ammunition.

That's the thing. We've filled out the fluff to that Tesenturia sits in that little spit of land between the black and caspian seas. I'm no history buff but I don't think Napoleonic f=France ever went there.

>Bring back a piece of home.

>Yuri gives Agnes some Vodka
>"So, Agnes, how did your parents get murdered?
Mine were killed alongside our neighbors when the bombers came.
But we had enough artillery to pay them back. I became friends with people that became orphans during our counter attack.
You look like the "I saw the killer and want to chase him down" type."

It could be a glorious scene. Just casual drinking of booze, playing guitar and talking about murder and maybe playing strip poker. Just like home.
>>
>>27883121
Then the question is are Yuri's family still around. Judging from his interactions with his fellow soldiers as well as the general political climate of Tessenturia I would hazard a guess that they aren't.

Lol as much fun as that sounds I think that Agnes and the general society is a bit too prude for strip poker.
>>
>>27883221
That's why we have the vodka.
Just kidding, but honestly, we could just ask if she is part of the all-women musket regiment.

Hit the 300 mark.

>>27885107
Yup this thread is on it's way down. OP if you post make it in a new thread.
>>
>>27885128
I'm writing something now though. If I make a new thread, I don't know if I'll update a lot
>>
>>27885208
we'll just do as we always do and sparingly bump it till you do,
>>
>>27885274
I rather make just one more post and consider making a new thread again.
>>
>>27885400
well even if you post there probably won't be all that much time to reply before it falls off.
>>
>>27885469
....Fair enough, when I have time, I'll try to make a new thread with a new post
