You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

You don’t have much time for introspection right now, though. You’re busy fighting for your unlife against an unholy cross between a maggot, a praying mantis, and an octopus, and you’re not winning.

Fortunately you’re not taking the brunt of the fighting. That role goes to the self-confident (arrogant), courageous (foolhardy), athletic (violent thug)... okay, you should probably stop mentally insulting the woman who’s doing most of the actual combat here, but she really can be insufferable. Gloria is an angel, or at least that’s what she claims, a warrior of the Heavenly Host. Precisely why she’s down here on Earth is slightly fuzzy, and she doesn’t like to talk about it. Why she’s down here in this sewer tunnel, fighting a ten-foot-long worm with way too many limbs that’s occasionally spitting poisonous sludge at her, is a bit simpler: she wants to kill demons. The voice in the back of your head is fairly dismissive of the Corrupter’s claims to actual demonhood, but you haven’t felt any particular need to enlighten her on that front.

Gloria does a pointlessly elaborate somersault of the kind you see in action movies, her white coat billowing dramatically and her long, blonde hair flowing around behind her head. A sucker-covered tentacle whips out and grabs her ankle, slamming her into the floor. Quite a bit of her long, flowing hair is now in her face, obscuring her vision, but she’s still fighting well enough. Her white-handled longsword whips up, fire blazing along the blade, and slices the tentacle in two.

One of the demon’s blade-like upper claws shoots out to impale Gloria in the shoulder, and you decide that you need to act fast. You raise one of the large plastic bottles that Gloria gave you, filled up with holy water, and toss it straight at the demon.

((Cont.))
>>
>>27759497
Your aim is true, and there is a bizarre, hissing scream as the bottle breaks open on the demon’s flank and splashes the blessed water down its side. Its bizarre, three-mandibled head twists to point in your direction, and there’s a buzzing sound that your brain only barely translates into words.

“Interlopers! Fools! How dare you come into my sanctum wielding such weapons against me! I shall crush you both and feast on your broken bodies! Surrender and you shall be spared, fight and you will perish in agony!”

Two of the tentacles are now raised and pointing in your direction, and you can see their strange tips now, bulbous yellow orbs with a curiously faceted surface. Are they eyes? You think they must be - there are no other eyes on the creature’s body, and now that you look at them, the orbs look like enormous, compound insectile eyes.

What do you want to do?

[]Keep throwing. You’ll run out of bottles of holy water pretty quickly, but maybe you’ll distract it.
[]Move in to support Gloria more closely. She’s looking really bloodied now. And it would probably look kind of bad if she died.
[]Move in and go for the eyes with your dagger. Maybe they’re a weak spot? You’ve played a lot of video games, eyes are a good weak spot to go for.
[]The Man in the White Suit apparently has a plan to finish this. His plan last time didn’t go too badly, all things considered. And he does have a lot of raw power. You’re not entirely sure how Gloria will react, though.

You dive in, your short blade out, and jab at one of the tentacles. It twists easily out of the way, and wraps around your wrist, catching your arm and pulling hard. There's a burning feeling around your wrist and a pain in your shoulder like your arm's being torn apart.

Suddenly, the pain stops and the tentacle slumps and releases. Gloria's sword has darted across and sliced it off, freeing your hand and your weapon. You pull back and look for another eye to attack, but they've risen up out of your reach, and you see that they're all looking at Gloria. She had to turn away from the Corrupter to free you, and she's left herself open.

The massive head and its three wicked-looking hooked mouth-parts hammer down into Gloria's chest. They seize her around the waist and lift her up into the air, and with a shuddering twist of its body the Corrupter throws Gloria across the room. She slams into a brick wall, and slumps to the ground. A trio of deep gouges, each ringed with black slime, have been carved into her torso.

Gloria doesn't seem to be getting up. What's your next move?

[]Fall back. Run for the exit, where the others are waiting. Leave Gloria to her fate.

“All right,” you think. “It’s your show now.”

“It always was, partner,” replies the voice in the back of your head, and you sense the ghost of a smile.

Your legs stiffen a little. You feel your back straighten and your posture change, and you can feel power, enormous amounts of power and energy, flooding into your arms and legs, driving your muscles and bone without any regard for the laws of physics. Your body takes a step forward, and you hear the bricks of the floor crack under the impact of your foot.

The buzzing voice speaks again, faster this time. “That is close enough. Stay back, or you will taste my poisons too! Drop your weapon! You will both perish unless you surrender to me!”

The only response from your mouth is a short burst of harsh, mocking laughter as your legs walk to the edge of the pool, and you feel your hand sheathing your dagger again.

“You think you’re a threat to me, you stupid little worm? You haven’t the slightest understanding of who you’re really dealing with. ‘Corrupter’. You make me laugh. I’ve seen true corruption and you can’t even hold a candle to it. Your poisons can’t touch me, your slime can’t pollute me, you have no way at all to corrupt or harm what I am. I am so because I command myself to be so, and you cannot even comprehend of a power that could match those commands. I have crushed in my hand the lies of the soldiers of the falling stars; I have spoken to a place that was not, and commanded it ‘Be’, and once more it was. I am a force beyond your imagining, vermin. I am power, I am control, I am domination. When I stand, you kneel. When I speak, you listen. When I say ‘Live’, you live. And when I say ‘Die’, you DIE.”

There is a horrible, terrible resonance. The final word of the Man’s speech echoes in a way that is not an echo. It fills the room with itself, until the air is heavy and dark with power and magic.

((Cont.))
>>
>>27760376
The Corrupter seems to rise jerkily for a second, all its limbs and tentacles lifting up before it as if to shield its body from the terrible power of that word, and then it crumples up on itself. There is a soft splash as its enormous body drops back into the pool, a noise that seems almost insignificant next to the fading echoes of the word of command.

Your lips curl into an expression that is almost, but not completely, unlike anything that could be called a human smile. Your body strides forward once more, stepping into the thick sludge and pushing through it with no more resistance than pure water. There’s a sizzling sound, but your body keeps walking.

You see your right hand raise the thick glass jar you had prepared to hold the demon’s heart; your other hand simply plunges straight into the creature’s body, its soft body parting like cloth as your hand seizes something solid and meaty and rips it out. Black fluid drips over your hand and onto the cuff of your shirt, leaving red lines on your skin and rapidly-growing holes in your shirt.

The lumpy, misshapen organ drops into the glass jar, and your eyes refocus to stare at the remaining black fluid staining your hand and wrist.

“Cease,” your voice says, and your hand and wrist are bare and clean.

“Cleanse,” it says, and the pool is suddenly flowing with clear, sparkling water. You can see your trainers and trouser legs are torn and damaged.

There is now a fierce red stain across the back of your hand and large holes in your cuff; your eyes stare at them for a moment, and you hear yourself say “That’s nothing. Acceptable collateral damage, as they say.” With another quick movement, one of the bottles of holy water is emptied into the jar, producing a hissing cloud of steam as it washes over the corrupted heart, and the jar lid is sealed. “That’ll do, kid. That’ll do.”

((Cont.))
>>
>>27760386
Your body sags as the borrowed power washes out of it. Pain floods into your senses, a burning sensation in your feet and ankles and across your left hand. Your mouth is damp, and there’s a slightly salty, metallic taste on your tongue. The Corrupter’s heart is yours, though.

What do you want to do now?
>>

You put the thick glass jar carefully into your backpack, and go to check on Gloria. She's covered in way too much blood, and she has a worrying number of holes in her. Her head hit the brick wall hard enough to crack the brick. She's still breathing, though, and she's got a strong pulse. You gingerly take her sword by the pommel and slip it into your belt, then lift Gloria up and sling her across your shoulders.

Your battered legs are aching steadily by the time you look to the end of the tunnel and see the ladder you originally came down. Your arms aren't doing much better, and you occasionally have to stop and spit small amounts of blood out of your mouth. You're still standing, though. You haven't had any enormous holes ripped into you like Gloria has, you've got the heart, and with a bit of time to rest and recover you'll probably be fine. Assuming you actually get any time to rest, of course.

When you reach the ladder, you face the problem of how to haul the unconscious Gloria up a vertical ladder. Fortunately, when you tap on the ladder a few times, there's an answering cry from above. With Esther supporting Gloria's body and you lifting her legs, the two of you are able to slowly haul hr up to the surface and lay her down on the tarmac.

Esther bustles over Gloria, inspecting her injuries and making disgruntled noises, then finally turns to you. "What happened down there? Do you have the heart? What is the next step of your plan?"

"I'll have Isabella try to round up some of the poison spirit's minions that have been released from control tomorrow.
"As for Ajani and Gloria, probably rest and healing."
>>
>>27761038
"I have the heart, and will deal with it appropriately. In the meantime, Gloria needs some medical attention, or at least a thorough once-over with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol. And after that, we still need to make a sweep of the sewers- we didn't find any of our missing persons down there. Still, I think a little celebration is in order. How's Ajani?"
>>
>>27761101
>Then, it's time we go for the Ice King.
In all honesty, I think the Winter King can wait for a while. Ajani and Gloria are down, meaning that our two front-line fighters are out of commission for a long while.
>>
>>27760990
Something like that.

"Zach, I've good news and bad news. Bad news is that I cannot think of a way to cure your curse. Good news, I have another plan,"

"What do you do with a wild dog, Zack? 2 things. You can shoot it out back, or...welcome to obedience school. I know both you and it are used to being top dog, but if you don't want to kill anyone else...you need to step down as alpha and fetch my slippers,"

"It has to be me, no one else in the school has the gumption. Even in Ajani's group, he's too dedicated to the abstract idea if heroism instead of the reality. Gloria, maybe, but I doubt you'd like playing fetch with the stick up her ass. Me, I am control. I thrive on it, and it is my power. So, there it is. Silver bullet, or sit?"
>>
>>27761101
We might want to wait a little before going for the Ice King.

Esther knows that we negotiated with Isabella, and that we somehow got her away from the poison spirit. I don't think we told her that Isabella is a minion; only that she's no longer under the poison spirit's control.

>>27761228
Esther probably knows more than what we've told her- that's kind of her thing. But we certainly haven't *admitted* to anything more than freeing Isabella from the corrupter's control, and we probably shouldn't. Some things you don't mention in polite company.

A lot of pieces are falling into place, mythology (or religion) isn't really my cup of tea, but I think we're at minimum looking at a Pantheon (term used loosely) founder that wasn't killed or driven off by its children/underlings. Also, it claimed to be the primal force of creation (potentially the sole creator of reality) and to not only have created itself but to also sustain its existence through sheer force of will.

"To answer your questions, the Corrupter is dead, I have the heart, and I'm going to dispose of it. Also, Gloria probably needs medical attention. What are we planning to do about the Winter King, with our two heavy hitters down for a while?"

Esther eyes you speculatively. "You are apparently something of a 'heavy hitter' yourself. How do you intend to dispose of the heart?"

You frown at her, just a little. "Carefully."

Esther inclines her head, a small smile playing across her lips. "Very well. Ajani is being seen to by a doctor of my family's acquaintance, who is... aware of the value of discretion. I suspect we can arrange for Gloria to be treated similarly, although the cost is mounting."

James is pacing awkwardly, and stops to butt in.

"What about the long-term care?" he asks, fidgeting somewhat. "Wouldn't it cut down on costs if one of us looked after him while he was recovering, instead of having to have a doctor do it? He doesn't need much medical care once his arm's patched up, just someone to bring him water and mop his brow, right?"

Esther sighs and shakes her head. "Outpatient care involves substantially more than mopping brows, James. You read entirely too many of the wrong sorts of books. Still, I suppose I cannot in good faith stop you from staying by his bedside, so long as you obey the orders of the nurses."

James' face lights up, and he moves off, kneeling down to check on Gloria. "Hey, Chris, what happened to her sword?", he calls out.

"I've got that too, needed an easy way to carry it," you reply, grasping the sword fully by its hilt and pulling it from your belt. Ow. Okay, that definitely hurts. You toss the sword over to James, who manages to catch it awkwardly but without cutting himself, and shake your hand. Small wisps of smoke drift away and dissipate. You don't think anyone else saw them. Esther and James are both checking on Gloria now, and Louie is sitting down and catching his breath.

What do you want to do now?

Well, there's a vampire's thrall wandering around in the sewers that should probably be found and blamed on the corrupter. Will we probably won't find Mrs. White, we might. >>
>>27762493
>Promethea
Same here.

My money is on Enki or maybe Marduk, though. Enki seems to actually get conflated with El latter on in the mythology, so that seems to fit with the resemblences we've already noted, and Marduk's big thing is killing Tiamat, a primordial being of chaos- the sort of thing a being of control like the Man would be all over. Largely, though, I get the sense the Man is much older even than either Thoth or Hermes, let alone Thoth-Hermes as a unit.
>>
>>27762559
To a degree, its possible he is all and/or many of these gods and is several civilisations all trying to describe the same entity. It kind of follows as well; powerful though most of the early centuries till possibly being usurped by Christ as the central figure (as christ is markedly differant from god of the old testament and the more pantheistic gods of the earlier millenia)
>>
>>27762605
You know, I think it depends how MHQ-Guy/Gal is running things. For all we know there were plenty of small gods competing for worship and power, or the gods have power independent from their worship and attract followers as a byproduct of action. Could go either way I think.

"Okay, we still need to find those missing people. Esther, will you be okay to leave Gloria up here and come help me search the tunnels?"

Esther looks at James and Louie, sighs, and gets to her feet. "I suppose they can hardly do further harm to her. Permit me to make a brief call, and then I will join you in your search."

Esther does, indeed, make a very brief phone call - she dials a number, speaks a couple of words in a language you don't recognise, and hangs up. Drawing her long, cylindrical whip from her belt, she heads down into the sewers and the two of you begin to scour the tunnels for signs of life.

After about half an hour, you finally find something - a guy in his mid-20s sitting in the middle of one of the tunnels, looking very confused. He seems to be in a daze - he's not alarmed by the fact that he's suddenly found himself in a sewer tunnel, or the fact that, when you question him, he doesn't recall how he got there or what he's been doing for the past few days. A driver's license in his wallet identifies him as Quinn Williamson, one of the two missing men. Esther questions him carefully, but he doesn't seem to remember anything since he went to bed on Saturday night, nearly a full day before he went missing.

Somewhat exasperated, Esther leads him back to the entrance you used before, instructs him to stay there, and carries on combing the sewers for almost an hour. Apart from the bodies of the Corrupter and its minions, however, there's little else to find, and none of the thugs have any ID or personal effects on them. (Esther does, however, stop to strip all the magazines from their weapons and slip them into her pockets. Bullets, she explains, are sometimes a lot harder to get hold of than guns.)

>>27762951
Once you return to the surface, Esther calls one of her contacts in the police and explains that she's encountered one of the missing people wandering in the street, and has someone come by to pick him up. Gloria has already been whisked away to wherever Esther's 'discreet' doctor is.

James and Louie head home, already more than ready to get some rest, and Esther is about to follow them when she stops and turns back to you.

“You have done us a not inconsiderable service here, Chris,” she says slowly. “Assisting us in locating and removing a demonic threat, locating a missing person, bringing Gloria out again safely. I am curious. What recompense are you seeking?”

You shrug as nonchalantly as you can, trying not to think about the glass jar in your backpack.

"I'm not that mercenary, Esther. I mean, I'd be lying if I said I did it purely out of charity - I have personal reasons to want the Corrupter dealt with - but I'm not out for money or anything like that. Having the Corrupter dealt with is its own reward."

Esther raises an eyebrow and regards you silently for a moment. You shrug again.

"Well, okay, a little goodwill never goes amiss. But seriously, just because I don't like Gloria doesn't mean I would just leave her to something like that."

Esther nods. "Nevertheless, it was a deed well done. We shall converse more in future. I need to check in on Ajani and Gloria. I doubt either of them will be available for school tomorrow, so our planning meetings may be on hiatus for a short while. You know how to contact me if something comes up."

Esther presses a button on her smartphone and walks to the kerb. Within a minute, a sleek black car has pulled up. She gives you a brief wave, then disappears inside and is driven away.

You have the heart. However, it's now very dark and very late. That second search of the sewers took a long time, and you didn't start until 9pm. It's now coming up on midnight.

[]No time like the present. Call Jill, arrange to meet her, and go deliver the heart to the King straight away.
[]It's not exactly the best idea to be wandering around forests in the middle of the night with breakable containers. And your mother is going to start asking awkward questions if you come in late again. Head home and get some rest. You can do the delivery tomorrow.

Keeping the jar around is just asking to complicate a simple task, and leaving it with Avril isn't a good idea if we suspect she's the one behind Mrs. White's disappearance- something I'm not sold on, but certainly a concerning possibility. Might as well get this over with. You ring Jill, already walking towards the forest as you wait for her to pick up.

She sounds slightly groggy when she answers. "Chris? Wh.. what time is it?"

"A bit after midnight, I guess. Sorry, did I wake you?"

"Not much, I guess. What is it?"

"I've got the Corrupter's heart. We can get one of your geases sorted out right away. I'll come meet you - where are you now? In the forest?"

"Uh, not right now. I figured with my mother gone it'd be safe to sleep in my own bed again. As nice as those plant beds are, they just don't feel the same. I can meet you near the edge of the forest, though, it's not far to walk. Just give me fifteen minutes to get up and dressed."

You've still got a fair way to walk before reaching the eastern edge of town, so you're not waiting too long for Jill. She stares a little when she sees your battered and part-dissolved jeans, but doesn't comment as you hand her the heavy glass jar with the demonic heart suspended inside it. The holy water you poured into the jar seems to already be going slightly cloudy.

The two of you walk slowly and carefully into the forest, using your phones to light the way so that you don't trip over any roots or walk into any low-hanging branches. Smashing the glass jar here would probably have bad results.

As you get deeper into the forest you start to notice lights up ahead, shifting through the trees. When you get a bit closer, you can see a small glowing light bobbing up and down in midair without any obvious supports or source.

Jill peers at it. "Is this a real live will-o-the-wisp? Wow. It's so pretty."

The light - the wisp? - bobs up and down in what you presume is some sort of gesture of thanks.

"Can you lead us to Princess Avril, little wisp?", Jill asks, and the light doss the same bobbing motion. It darts away, then hovers about 30 paces away, waiting for you all to follow.

Is there anything you want to talk about on the walk?

Jill nods. "I can always just run away if I hear her coming back. She's not really the sneaky type."

"Okay, if you're sure you'll be safe. Oh, I think that's Avril up ahead."

Avril is lying on one of the vine beds - she’s grinning quite a lot, but she’s thankfully alone right now. She waves and jumps up when she sees the two of you approaching, and gives a brief nod to the wisp, which flies up above your heads to give the three of you some light to talk by.

“Hey sweethearts,” she says with a broad smile. “How’re you doing? Oooh, that looks like an interesting jar.”

“Yeah, we’ve got the heart of the Corrupter to give to your father.”

“Awesome. He’s still around, we had a bit of a delay earlier so he’s sorting out lots of court business.”

“A bit of a delay?”

“Oh, right, I nearly forgot! I have some awesome news, Jill! Guess who apparently came wandering into the forest this morning shouting and raving and waving a cast iron poker around?”

Jill stops dead in her tracks, and goes deathly pale.

“Okay, okay, I guess you don’t really need to guess,” Avril continues, apparently oblivious. “Your mum is basically the only person in town who’d do something like that. Anyway, you missed the trial a few hours ago, which is a pity because it was hilarious, she wouldn’t stop shouting over Dad until she eventually got magically silenced, but what with the iron and attacking the trees and trying to stick a whole bunch of people with the poker, she got sentenced to death. We’ll probably sort that bit out in the morning, but I’m sure Dad would hurry it up if you asked him nicely. And then you never have to worry about her again. Great news, huh?”

>>27765959
Miranda, as her tutor, was supposed to teach Avril that shit like this does not fly under human morality.
Obviously, Avril wasn't paying much attention to those classes.

I don't know if binding is really the solution here; though I admit it's the fastest. Avril's mind doesn't work like a human's, so I don't think she'll learn her lesson in this fashion.
>>
>>27765959

She's already bound, we just need to make use of her oath. That said, this was fairly predictable...

Well, personally I would have been fine with killing her and dumping the blame on something else, but now that Jill knows its probably too late for that. It isn't worth us getting geased over though and I can't think of anything else the Spring King would want from us. I suppose this is the end of the Triple. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.

>>27765959
This isn't really Avril's fault, though I guarantee she didn't help matters. But we've run afoul of fae law before, and this is pretty much par for the course from the whole lot. It's going to take some mighty wrangling to sort this out, I'm sure, and the heart won't even serve as a token of goodwill because it's a debt we're paying.

As for Avril, I'd hoped the experience of going Darkest Self might have left a more lasting impression, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised - scare 'em straight has never really worked. She definitely needs a lesson in human morality, but I don't like the idea of binding her in a way that limits her free will. Too many icky connotations, what with the rape and all.

And in regards to Jill's mother: based on our experience with Jill's infractions, I really doubt we can get Mrs. White out of the frying pan. I think the best we can go for is imprisonment or indentured servitude, rather than death, and I'm not too sure about the imprisonment. The fae like locking away pretty young things, not psychotic matrons. Geasing Mrs. White to serve the king in some capacity would serve pretty well, though. It isn't too mind-rapey, she doesn't die and can receive visits from Jill, and she'll have all the time in the world to adjust to the idea of fae hanging around.

>>
>>27766379
If you're suggesting we trade her freedom from that oath for Jill's mom, I have to say that's a really bad deal. The woman is a physical, psychological and legal threat to Jill for crying out loud. This isn't the worst solution, it just requires the most crisis management with reguardless to the fallout.
>>
Avril needs a spanking.
>>
>>27766431
Feck that. Why the fuck would we give up the sexy elf princess who we control forever and a day? I'm just saying it bares remembering. We need to see just how strong it is. I mean, this isn't standard stuff. She literally gave herself like a sweet meat. I want to see how much give that has allowed us.
>>
>>27766413
Well, we could use our Man in White power to strengthen her bond to us and use it to selectively destroy and restructure her memory to prevent her from every remembering or being reminded of the event or its direct/indirect consequences. We'd probably also have to limit her free will a bit more and probably find a way to start undermining her access to other avenues of support from her cart, but that would limit her utility and probably piss her dad off, making it much more difficult to lay our own roots in Spring and eventually co-Opt the the forest into our growing domain.

I suppose I could be convinced, but you're going to need a better argument than "C'mon guys! sub Avril gets me so hard!".
>>
>>27766508
Given our nature and dominance over oaths given to us, I assume our control is literally as strong and complete as we allow it to be. Why? Do you seriously think there are limits? By fae law I'm pretty sure we literally own her. By our magic and her oath, we have every mechanism of control available. She is ours because that is now a universal fact.

There's lots of arguements I could give. It's in character. It follows our nature. It's hot. Avril was never adverse to the idea in the beginning. It could help her better understand humans. It could make her stronger.

>If she's ours, why'd she fuck that fae dude?
It may be helpful to ponder human notions of ownership and property vs Fae notions of ownership and property. This is the other difficulty when dealing with Fae: even if you pay attention to their exact words, their interpretations may still be subtly different from yours. They look physically human, for the most part, which is why it's so important to remember just how different they are mentally.))

I'll be honest, this post-thread seems like both literal and metaphorical wanking. I'm much more interested/worried in how we're going to combat the Winter King than whatever the fuck Avril is doing.
>>
>>27766733
Because for fae sex isn't about procreation, so while it can be a show of dominance or affection, it generally isn't associated with romance/romantic love in and of itself. Basically, she's submissive to us, but dominant or simply affectionate with that giant bull headed tutor we walked in on her with.

>why'd she fuck that dude?!
Nastolgia.
>>
>>27766733
>Why'd she fuck that fae dude
Sex doesn't necessarily mean anything to fae. It's like shaking hands to them.

Out of curiosity, if we'd said, "please don't sleep with other men, tens of thousands (at least) of years of evolution have predisposed me to experience some pretty nasty negative emotional responses when you do that," would she have not done that?

I'm not too worried about the Winter King. We already have a group of people that have dealt with him numerous times and now, they have us, Zack, Avril, Jill and others.

We also have insider knowledge on him. The main problem will be tracking him down and if we're going to be checking around other places, its best to make sure our shit is in order. Case in point, this crap with Jill's Mom wouldn't have happened if we had someone on the look out for her besides Miranda.

So, just aim for the crown. We can't fight him for a while anyway, at least until Gloria and Ajarni are back, so why not deal with our problems and expand our powers.

>>27766823
Eh, I think its worth the risk still. If we're doing any of that mind shit though, we're experimenting on a pawn first though.

One thing I want sorted is why the Man lied to us about the nature of our powers. Also, they seem far more...dramatic then any of us realise. They bear expanding and improving upon. For fuck sake's, he can change reality and I be wanting power like that baaaaad.

>>

>he can change reality and I be wanting power like that baaaaad.
Prepare for disappointment because those are his powers, not ours, and he's very unlikely to let us have access to them.

I also don't give a shit if Avril sleeps around, so long as she sleeps around with other women.

There is a big evolutionary reason for men to experience negative emotions for their women sleeping with other men, that doesn't apply for all other pairings. See if you can figure it out.
>>

((Possibly. The Fae do tend to be of the (entirely sensible, in my book) view that jealousy is a problem for the person who's being jealous to fix, not a problem for someone else. But if you specifically asked her not to sleep with any other guys she'd probably give it a go.))

You do realize that the winter king is at minimum an order of power stronger than the Corruptor (probably 2 orders, but I digress), right? Also, I'm guessing he has more minions.

I'm not saying we're screwed, just that first we should probably power up our allies and bind that goddamn angel in servitude before she decides we're the biggest threat around to the church.
>>
I think I can generally agree that we need to reassert dominance over Avril, although not necessarily order her into monogamy. Seems like the kind of thing that builds resentment and honestly it's a tad petty.

I also think we're relying too much on the Man in White, we need to develop our own powers towards his level, not piggyback off of him when we need to do some heavy lifting. We also need to increase our combat effectiveness, learn to use a knife/sword/gun with some degree of competence. Why not aspire to be like Harry Dresden? There are some wizards about if I remember correctly, we should seek them out and bind one to give us lessons.

Point one, our dominance over Avril never lapse. Only our will to exploit it did and only to the extent that using it might further damage her and her usefulness to us. We still tie her up during fun times, we just haven't had too much time for fun in the last three or for days.

Point 2, I mostly agree we need to develop our own powers excepting situations in which by ourself we are screwed. That said, Dresden is a horrible model for our growth since we aren't a wizard and don't have wizardy powers.

She said her dad has been alive for thousands of years, and she's a pure-blood Fae.

>>
>>27767332
Different anon, but strictly speaking, something can have evolutionary reasons without being genetically-wired.

Simple example, having kids is pretty evolutionarily necessary, and a tribe who didn't do that would die out in a generation. But that doesn't mean it's hard-wired: evolution acts on culture as well as genes, so just as animals without instinct to breed would be selected against evolutionarily, so would people without a culture of having kids be selected against.

Genes don't control what we think, but evolution does apply to the thousands of years of culture humans today have.

I'd have enjoyed reading the rant, just out of academic interest.

The Fury and Angel are both really good combat trees, as are the Hunter and Werewolf skins. I think the vampire is pretty decent at combat but don't quote me on that.

Miranda specifically said that there are Mages around. She didn't want to call them in as experts because their prices are high and they're just as likely to take what they're asked to research than to abide by the contract and give us the research materials when they're done.

Guys, I just thought of another wrinkle with regard to Jill's mom. Avril, by virtue of being ours, is essentially our proxy in spring court matters. Sinse she obviously didn't step in and defend Jill's mom during the trial, she basically signaled our ascent to the proceedings. Us immediately demanding a retrial or reduction of Mrs. White's sentence will make us look weak since we can't control our proxy. The fae do not tolerate weakness, they exploit it.

We have to tread very carefully and make sure Avril explains all the dangers involved in whatever course of action we end up choosing.
>>
>>27767643
>>27767685
Do vampires need to feed off of the blood/lifeforce of a living person, or can we just tell Cass to make a thrall at a blood bank and get her Feed on there?
Not to mention, the pure selection of blood available is much greater at a blood bank than if she has to go hunting by herself.

Counterpoint: empathy is an innate and evolutionarily-wired trait, yet sociopaths exist. (See also: capacity for verbal speech, pleasure from orgasm, fertility, desire for heterosexual sex, etc.)

Guys, I've been thinking, and maybe we're going about this Mrs. White thing all wrong.
Let's put it into perspective: if Mrs. White had gone crazy-stupid (as she did here) and crashed onto the Buckingham Palace grounds and attacked the Queen with a knife, wouldn't we feel that the security was doing their job to shoot her dead? Wouldn't we feel that 'it was too bad, but she had it coming' if that happened?
Maybe we need to properly contextualize things for Jill, so that she understands that, all things considered, this is just an unfortunate (and crazy) course of action that her mother took, and was really nothing more than suicide by Fae.

Of course, we do need to tighten our hold on Avril and get her more human empathy; I'm not disputing that.
I just don't think that we should spend so much effort or resources on saving Mrs. White.

>>27768439
It's simply making a metaphor to make the execution of her mother's death easier for Jill to handle.

Of course the Spring King had this eventuality planned for; after all, he created Miranda and probably ensured that Jill was born so that he could have a powerful telekinetic as his daughter's bodyguard. He must have foreseen what Margaret would do, how she would react, and it inevitably came out that Jill was seeing Avril.

Everything involving the White family is probably already accounted for by the King. Margaret fulfilled her usefulness, and became a liability, so he acted to make sure that she is disposed of.
>>
>>27768339
I think it's less in action on Avril's part (well, no, ats not true but I'll get to that in a bit) and more the fact that she assaulted the Forest, Avril's dad, with cold iron. That's an automatic death sentence I believe.

Anywho, it's my belief that Avril spent the night before Mrs. White went al kamikaze setting of fireworks it Jill's head. In one of those special forest beds. Jill's mom picked up on that (again) and had a predictable response. So predictable apt hat I would be highly disappointed in Avril if she didn't anticipate it...

>>
>>27773594
What's more most sociopaths don't generally do anything wrong, tend to be insular and have trouble fitting into society.

The tv sociopath who is well liked and can pass undetected tends to only apply to a incredibly small percentage (of already a small percentage of people).

Furthermore, as a note of interest on studies of apes and other social mammals as well as humans, sociopathy has near exactly the same incidence rate between social and non-social animals, between 'civilised' and 'non-civilised' groups. As was explained to me, the theory is that sociopathy arises as a evolutionary back-up; whilst our current climate, and previous ones for several millennia, greatly encourages us to be social creature, should our situation change then a small percentage are readily available to take advantage of that.
>>
>>27769217

Half an hour later, you're both panting for breath, slumped against the ground. Avril leans back against you, grinding her hips again, but you're finally spent. "Mmm... more?" she begs. "I haven't had it that good in... ever, I guess. Can I see you after school? Or tonight? I need more of that. Promise me I can have more."

Oddly enough, the Chosen isn't actually that great at combat beyond the "spend 4 strings to have a final showdown with an NPC" move.
