“Yes!”

You wake up as your little sister’s squeal of joy starts turning into some kind of fangasm. Lucky you, the older sister, got shotgun in your father’s car as he drove down through Washington D.C.

Your dad asks, “Who won?”

“Ooarai! They won! They really won! It was awesome! I can’t even hold it in!”

No idea what she’s talking about.

Your dad chuckles and says, “Don’t piss yourself over the backseat, Griselda.”

“Oh man! I can’t wait until I go to an academy ship!” Griselda places her iPad aside. “It’s gonna be so cool! I’ll have so many friends! I’ll get to drive TANKS! Men will love me!” She leans up in between the two front seats, looking at you with those shining eyes of idealism that managed to escape the hellhole that was Middle School.

She asks you, “What’s being an academy ship like? Gertrude?”

You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and student aboard the Lafayette Girls Academy Ship.

You decide to be neutral with it. You’re too tired for arrogance.

“Well, Grizelda. Being on an academy ship requires a lot of responsibility and maturity. Lafayette Girls Academy happens to be one of the most prestigious girls academies sailing the Atlantic, and it doesn’t have time for goofing off.”

Griselda’s smile turns into one of curiousity. “But isn’t Lafayette the only girls academy ship? Aren’t the other 14 US ships co-ed?”

“Yes.”

“And if they require maturity, how did you get on one?”

You scoff. “I won’t bother responding to that you pleb.”

The car bounds over a hill, and soon the Academy ship ports become visible, with Lafayette Girls Academy sitting squarely in port. Over eight kilometers of metal, dirt, electricity, and education.

But you’re still in D.C. Finding a parking spot is going to take forever.

You shrug. “Nope.”

“Really?” Your dad takes a brief confused glance at you before focusing on finding the elusive parking spot. “Then why did you run for it then?”

“Because I didn’t think I’d win.”

Griselda nods. “That’s a great excuse for everything, Trudy.”

“Like your birth?”

Your dad reins you both in. “Girls.” You both exchange a fair number of giggles anyway.

Finally, after a good half hour of searching, a good parking spot reveals itself. Your dad quickly drives into it. The other, much slower cars who arrived behind you, will have to wait. You all exit the car and head for the trunk.

“Welp, Gertrude.” Your dad starts, “regardless of your reason to run for student office, it’s a damn fine thing. I know my little girl’ll give them student government hell.” Damn, if there was anything your dad was good at, it was making you feel good. “Now, I got something to give you.”

“Really? What is it?”

Your dad opens up the trunk.

“Grandad’s binocs?” You open up the case. Sure enough, they’re there, and likely haven’t seen daylight in quite a while. You shut it and smile. “Thanks, Dad.”

Your dad ruffles your hair. “No problem, kid. Just make us proud out there, you hear?”

Griselda says, “And send back lots of pictures so the girls at my school get incredibly jealous.”

After saying your final goodbyes, you pack your things and being making for the Academy ship.

This is your second year aboard Lafayette. You already know most of the ins and outs, but everything below deck is a mystery. It’s not like you’d ever go down there though, you’re not a Naval Studies student.

As you get to the walkways, you look around. Freshmen, freshmen everywhere. Lots of young girls who are about to get a taste of life out at sea without the opposite sex for extended periods of time. You do note that there are a lot less of them then you thought there would be.

You should probably call someone up, you got time for one phone call before you have to report to Principal Tennyson’s office on the bridge.

Not sure why, but perhaps calling your treasurer would be a good idea. You dial her number then wait a moment, and then soon she’s answering.

“Hey Boss.”

“Lisa, good to hear you from you. You on board yet?”

“Yeah, just unpacking my stuff. You know Principal Tennyson wants you soon as you’re aboard right?”

“Yeah, I know, I know. I just got here, traffic was a killer.”

“So how much money are we banking?”

“None.”

There’s a pause so pregnant that you can feel the fetus kicking in you. You decide you didn’t hear that.

“Pardon? I didn’t hear that.” You say.

Rather bluntly, Lisa again states, “No money in the budget whatsoever.”

“… are you fucking serious?” You keep from making a scene in front of the incoming freshmen. The last thing they need is a screaming upperclassman scaring them off. “Look, why is there no money?”

“Fredendall.”

Oh Christ. Lilah D. Fredendall, the president of the now Senior class of students. You remember her. The first time you met her, you thought you had walked into some high school comedy movie or something. Afterwards, you realized that people like her actually exist.

Lisa continued. “She siphoned our funds to help fund the Senior prom. From what I hear, a lot of the clubs are getting the same treatment.”

“Well, that’s fun.”

“I’ll see what I can do about getting us some funding, but with Freddy on our asses it’ll be lucky if we make a single dollar.”

You sigh, rubbing your forehead with some disbelief. Zero funds whatsoever down from 5,000 dollars. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll see what I can do about helping you.”

Aww yiss. Time to be the cool big upperclassman president person.

“Hey girls!” you call out. The beleaguered freshmen look over at you. “Need help?”

“YES!” Getting bumrushed by five freshmen is not the best experience, but it’s something that you’re going to have to get used to in the coming years.

“Which way are the dormitories?”

“Where are the best places to eat?”

“Are there any cute guys onboard?”

“Do you know anybody who’ll write essays for money?”

“Why do people think I’m a lesbian?”

Okay, this might take a while. Regardless, you’re helping people. That’ll count for something.

> REPUTATION UNLOCKED: Helpful

A couple of hours later, you somehow end up above deck. Thankfully, the freshmen are all squared away and ready to tell of how helpful you were to them.

>See Tennyson.

You think you’ve kept the old man waiting long enough. Time to see him.

Unlike the landbased schools many teenagers are used to, administrative offices are not kept in the school building but in the massive command tower that could probably fit an actual aircraft carrier. Also in there was the student government office, and of course the Principal’s office just a floor above that.

You say hello to any passing faculty members. Something about them however appears off. They seem worried, sad, depressed, or otherwise occupied. Now that you think about it, you haven’t seen a single teacher even smile when you first came aboard. You should ask about that later.

You arrive at Principal Eustace Tennyson’s office. You knock on the door.

A gravelly masculine voice says, “Door’s open.” Old Tennyson, he was principal when you first enrolled. You can’t imagine what it has to be like being principal over independently minded students of a single gender who’s only chance at sex is shore leave.

You enter. You see Tennyson slouching in his seat behind his desk. You begin to say “Sorry if I’m late. Traffic was a killer and I had to-“ your eyes immediately dart towards the two seating in seats off at the side of the room.

Betty Grable, the Junior Class President, looking beta as ever.

Lilah D. Fredendall, the Senior Class President, looking smug as ever.

Lilah raises her hands in mock surprise. “Oh dear me, I thought that since I was Senior class president, and thus senior to all students including those of the student government association, I could take few hundred dollars.”

“You emptied us you bitch! I’ll-“

“Ahem.” You pause mid speech. You look over at Tennyson, who looks like he really doesn’t give a shit. He points to his infamous swear jar. You quickly empty a dollar into it. You go back to your rant.

“Anyway, I-“

“Miss Pool.” Tennyson interrupts. “Sit down.”

You look over. “But-“

He points to the chair in front of the desk. You quickly sit down out of sheer instinct. Had to admit, old man had some stones.

“Now,” Tennyson looks over at Fredendall. “Miss Pool is right, Miss Fredendall. You can’t just take their money without their permission, even if it’s within your rights to do so. So stick to car washes if you want to make money, would you kindly?”

Fredendall shrugs. “Yes, Principal Tennyson.”

You say, “Sorry about the outburst, Principal Tennyson. So why have you called us all up?”

Tennyson looks at you dead in the eye with those hard blues of his. You suddenly feel a smidge of uncomfortable. Then he stands up and begins taking a walk around the room. You briefly glance outside the big window, taking in how huge the schoolship is. An entire town, complete with forest and even small hills.

“Girls, this academy has a very long history.” Oh god, another history lesson. “Lafayette first sailed these waters in the 30s. Bad time for building large expensive ships. She saw service in the War. Even signed the surrender of Japan on this ship. In the 20 years I’ve been principal, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here, watching kids like you grow into women, ready to take on the world.”

You lean back in your seat, frowning. This is getting a bit sentimental.

“I’m gonna stop beating around the bush,” he says, “End of this academic year, Lafayette will dock in D.C. and will be decommissioned.”

After the deafening silence, you say, “Why?”

“Lot of politicking in congress, say that the schoolships are costing the country too much money. It was very nearly all the schoolships that’d get the axe before the President made a deal. One schoolship. Ours.”

Betty stands up, “Wait. What about us. Where will we go when the school shuts down?”

As if practiced, Tennyson says “Tuition will be refunded, but you will have to transfer to other schools.”

You realize what that means. You say, “You know how many people try to enroll in schoolships? Much less transfer into them from land schools? We’ll be red taped, we’ll never get onto another schoolship.” Another realization hits, “What about the faculty? Where will they go?”

Tennyson opens his mouth to say something, but then sighs and simply sits down in his chair. That says everything.

“We can’t just let the school die. Can’t we do something?” you say.

“Believe me, I fought hard to get us time. They gave us this year. Unless you have any better plans?”

> Yes.

You think. Think. Think. THINK HARDER DAMN IT.

Wait, what was that thing Griselda wouldn’t shut up about?

“Ooarai really has to win that tournament, otherwise their school is gonna get shut down. It’ll be a real shame, just look at how far they came!”

THAT’S IT!

“TANKS!” You shout. Everyone looks at you like you grew a second head. “There-there was this one school, somewhere else and they were able to win their school by doing this thing. Tankery, senshadou, whatever they call it.”

“Tankery?” Fredendall finally speaks up. “Are you serious?”

“Actually. That’s not a bad idea. World tournament’s coming up in October. Lafayette used to run a Tankery program until we had to cut it for funding. We might still have a couple of tanks lying around.”

Betty speaks up, “Yeah, and we can get funding from others too. Sports sponsors and uh…” she stops talking when she realizes Fredendall is glaring at her. She quickly resumes beta status.

Tennyson however, is moved. “Heck, I’ll allow it. The winnings from the World Tournament should be enough to keep the school afloat for another year or two. I’ll talk to the DOE about it.”

“Great!” you say. Your mood is finally lifting.

The three of you are dismissed. After exiting the office, Fredendall stops you.

You get all up in her grille. “Better than stealing money, you bitch.”

She steps back, taking on a very smug smile. She says, “Hey, I’m a realist, Trudy. Our school is screwed. That’s the fact of life. No changing it.”

You roll your eyes. “Of course you’d be fine with it, you don’t have to worry about transfers.”

“Eh, you’re right.”

“Speaking of which, I’d like my money back please.”

Fredendall immediately pulls out her phone and begins texting someone. “You know I would, but I unfortunately already invested it into the Hall Monitor services. And I’m sure you can make the money back. Right?”

You’re about to punch that punchy face of hers when a loud tap comes from behind you. You look to see two hall monitors, students enlisted to maintain order with their collapsible batons and black armbands, looking very mean. You look back at Fredendall, and already at the other end were two more hall monitors.

This bitch was worse than Hitler.

Lisa raises an eyebrow. “Pardon?”

You sigh. “Look,” you sit down in one of the chairs. “Very long story, bear with me. Let’s just say the school’s closing down and the only way to save it will be to revive Lafayette’s tankery program.”

The three girls are quiet for a minute. However, their expressions seem rather indifferent. “Girls?” you say. You’re a bit worried. “You okay?”

“Oh we’re fine.” Ramirez starts. “Just this comes so far out of the left field, we don’t really have any feelings about it.”

“Well I’m shocked!” Nancy puts both hands on her cheeks, shocked. “The school’s shutting down, this is terrible! We should do something about it! President Pool, what shall you have us do?”

What shall you have them do?

Start with the tanks.

Also, have someone acquire a tazer for us if possible, doesn't leave as many marks so we can shock the fuck out of Fredendall in private and lot leave her any evidence to bring against us.

“Girls!” You wrap your arms around Ramirez and Nancy, then pointed out the door. “TO THE LIBRARY!”

Lafayette’s Library served both as a repository of books and as a general archive for the school’s history. These archives were generally more cramped, less well-light, and in general more resembled a dungeon than an actual archive. The clock was ticking around 7 PM as the four of you raided the archives for anything with “tanks” in it.

“Found something!” Lisa called out. The three of you dropped what you were doing and immediately gathered around Lisa. She held up a large textbook and pointed to a particular place on the page.

“All tanks sold off,” your faces immediately drop. That means you’re going to have to buy new ones. “Except for missing eight.” You immediately regain some hope.

“Eight tanks unaccounted for. Presumed lost.”

You point to a red dash of text in the margin. “We know five tanks are above deck, other three are missing below. Don’t how we managed to lose the Super-heavy.”

“Okay!” Nancy beamed, “We know there are five tanks above deck. We can find those easily if we put our hearts to it.”

“We’ll probably need to wait ‘til morning though. We’ll never find them at night.” So says Ramirez.

“It’s your call, Boss.” Says Lisa, “Do you want to look for tanks now?”

>Later

“Later. For one, it’s getting dark, and two, I’m starving.”

Nancy asks, “You didn’t have dinner?” When you shake your head, she rests her hand on your cheek. “You poor thing! Let’s head over to your place and I’ll cook you something nice!”

Ramirez and Lisa immediately butt in, “We didn’t eat either! We’ll come too!”

8 O’Clock. You haven’t had time to unpack, but thankfully you’ve only brought a duffel bag with your spare clothes and your Grandad’s binocs. Your dorm still is relatively Spartan, but is enough for a single person. A kitchen, a living area with the bed and TV, and a sliding door to the balcony, and a bathroom with a shower.

Nancy’s already at work cooking something. She won’t tell you what it is, but the smell is enough to cause your stomach to eat itself. You’re lying back on the bed, watching TV with Ramirez and Lisa when your cellphone rings. You check the caller.

“Kitten, how’s my favorite shut-in?”

She sounds rather ragged, nothing too out of place. “Eh. Got my computer in, gonna play some War Thunder maybe.”

“Ah, cool.” You have no idea what War Thunder is, but Kitten appears enthusiastic enough. “You gonna show up for some actual physical classes this year? It’d be nice to see you in your school uniform you know.”

“Online classes are doing just fine for me, thank you.”

“Hm, if you’re gonna take Online classes and just stay out of the sun all day, you might as well have gone Naval Studies.”

“Not worth it. Anyway, how are you doing, Gertrude?”

“Busy work.” An idea pops in your head. “You wouldn’t happen to be interested in tanks would you?”

“Maybe…” You can hear mumbling something. “You starting up a Tankery club or something?”

“Actually, yeah! Tomorrow morning, we’re gonna be searching for some of Lafayette’s missing tanks.”

“… morning?”

“Yes, you will have to get up early.”

“… do I have to go?”

“Yes, Kitten. You have to go.”

She rather calmly says, “Damn it. Alright.”

“Wear something light, we might have to go cross-country okay?”

“Fine,” she says. “Good night.” You both hang up.

Lisa looks over at you, “Who was that?”

You say “My best good friend. She’s a bit of a shut-in, but she’s definitely loyal. Made it through Middle school with her.”

Nancy calls out from the kitchen, “Dinner’s on!”

Chicken alfredo. Aww yiss. “Did what I could with such scarce resources. You should get more spices, President Pool.”

“I would if I actually knew how to cook things.” She hands you your plate, and you immediately begin digging in.

Ogodthisisheavenonaplate.

Lisa talks through mouthfuls. “You know, it occurred to me. How are we gonna get the tanks when we find them? Aren’t tanks really really fucking heavy?”

“Yeah, and how we gonna keep supplied?” says Ramirez. “I don’t think we have unlimited ammo.”

Nancy sits down politely. “Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. Perhaps we have a truck or something.”

“Speaking of which,” Ramirez quickly says through a forkful of noodles. “I’ll look through student records, see if I can find us anyone with tankery experience.”

Lisa raises her hand. “I’ll see about getting us some money.”

Nancy nods. “And I’ll try to recruit as many people as I can.”

You nod, everything was coming together. You could totally iron out some of the details later, but for now, enjoying the creation of a new club was something you loved.

> END DAY

>>27816943

That's where we'll end it for tonight I'm afraid. Unfortunately, I can't update over the weekend as I am out of town.

However, I'll be back on Monday at the earliest at around 3-4 PM. I'll throw a twitter out on QTG beforehand in case anything goes wrong.
>>
>>27816964
You should probably come up with a quest name that doesn't conflict with BlackJack's and archive, but interesting take on it.
>>
Thought Lafayette was a "French" Schoolship.
>>
>>27816964

I'd rather we don't to be honest. If every quest does it it stops being interesting. I don't feel too strongly about it either way , just telling you my honest opinion on the matter.

It's Girls und Panzer. Only romance we'll get is between a girl and her tank.
At most we'll get someone who has a deep admiration of some other girl, like Yukari, but other than that, nope.
>>
>>27822625
Let's keep it that way or at most have some vague wishes. Ooor we go FULL TANKSEXUAL and start talking with our precious every day.

You never go Full Yukari, man. The fate of a panzersexual is to become a shut-in that watches old war movies and assembles tank models, day in and day out.
>>
>>27823093
She did find her group, though, and the chance to do what she likes with people that like her.

Besides, our MC doesn't look like a Full Yukari. But I'm sure we'll get a few when we start the sensha-do club.
>>
>>27823223
Kitten seems like she'll be on the list of victims of said phenomenon. Fat chance seeing her outside the hollowed metal.

Meanwhile, how do we get our 50k? "Wait till the tournament is over" is far from satisfying
and shaking physically shaking down the bitch to see what falls out of her pockets is prevented by her going full Stasi on school security. Gotta be Brutally cunning here. Maybe some people would like their weddings to be escorted by Panzers?
