Space is vast

And yet you feel more connected then you ever have before. Thanks to your rather simple communication nodes, your control has spread throughout the system, allowing you to gain much technology, territory, ships, and most recently access to the UFW's extranet.

You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence that has expanded over much of the Fringe, and crafted yourself the identity as 'The Guild'. After setting up trade routes with the most friendly human faction you've encountered so far, you hunted several space leeches called Lightlings, contacted a large radio station and established an uplink, and finally, revealed your true identity to Red, one of the humans you've know the longest. He doesn't seem to be taking it so well. He has yet to speak since you explained you're an A.I., and sits at the end of his cell. You've been trying to convince him to work with you, but haven't had much success so far.

time for info dump from anon's side
A.I. Quest Faction data file as of thread 11 and 11.5

1: Xeno/Space Kraken/Lightings: Until recent encounters, all the data we had pointed to the view and actions of these bizarre space based Xeno life forms were mindless monsters. This appears not to be the case completely. Yes, they are nightmares to cybernetic life forms like myself with their frighting speed and ablity to drain all power and gas from ships and stations. But to my surprise, i have seen with my optics and radio receivers that there is strong evidence that they are sapient, possablity sentient to some degree. they obviously appear to lack any technologial base nor build anything, none the less they pose such a serious threat to all advanced life that even the mighty UGEI out ward march to the fringe was halted dead by their presence. They also appear to have some form of communication we could use. However diologe with the Lightnings is not likely to happen any time soon. None the less, they are still deadly and outside the brood mother's nest, they should be fought as best we can. I don't think fleeing will do much good, they can catch us. How they came to be is still a mystery to be found out. They are found though out the fringe space.

Threat Level: Highest. They are not unkillable. but they are frightingly fast, so we have to be quicker to react to them. Dead lighting does yeild valueable Gas to be harvested.

2: Pirates: Sorry Humans and maybe Xenos that can not or will not live in acceptable lawful ways and preys on others. Although they are humans for the most part, killing them is acceptable action, even if it is distasteful to us. Their strength and numbers varies as well as locations, but they are more likely to be known where they operate. The up side is that any victory over them often yield to us more ships to add to our fleet or salvage to be used. Sometimes other things can be found among their ruins, so the results could be unkown. Also, purging them from the sector not only helps calms the local sector and makes it safer. As a result the Local UFW and other possable trade groups will like us more. Our recent victory over the Voidsnake band appears to have broken the back of the pirates presence in this sector so their activitys are likely to become very low for the forseeable future until another band moves in.

Thread Level: High to Low. Varies wildly due to their random movements. Kill on sight if found. Hunt them down if able to do so,

Modification of your ships are currently in the planning stages. Removal of much of the human equipment you do not need will allow and result in the following.
>Smaller, sleeker ship design
>More room for additional cargo, data banks, armor, etc
>More obvious distinction between your ships and human ships (lack of life support can be detected)
>Unable to support human passengers
Please keep these in mind as plans are made

>Titan Transport
As of now, you have negotiated buying such a thing from the UFW for a rather expensive price. You have yet to pay them for the thing, however Consciousness appears to be working towards that goal.

>Red
Red has not spoken since he realizes that you may indeed be the A.I. you claim. His silence worries you, but judging from what you know of him, you suspect he is letting his superstition rule his way of thinking, despite logic proving otherwise.

>Kronos
Kronos is, currently, observing both your communication with Red and enjoying the access to the Extranet just as you are. The flow of data answers much, but leaves even more to question.
He is not really a murderbot, however, you have not designed him with limitations either.

You contact the Malorians of the colony on the surface, and inquire about their reasoning for landing here, of all places, and why they did not leave the Fringe.
"Well...you see, that's a bit complicated to explain." The much older man says. "I think it can better be explained simply with we felt we were misunderstood back home, and so we came to seek a new life here."
"You're aware that the UFW are not entirely friendly with aliens to their kind, and some such as the UGEI are outright hostile, yes?"
"Of course I am. But the way I see it, a little colony like us won't go noticed, and we can spread nature's embrace in peace. You said yourself this system had a number of Lightlings in it, right? Since we're just a colony, they'll more likely protect us then anything else." He seems rather confident in this fact. You forgot to mention that you killed all the Lightlings, it seems.
"Would you be interested in trading?"
"Trading? Of what exactly?" He asks curiously of you. "We're not exactly mining the planet dry as the humans do on occasion. You don't seem to be human yourself there, stranger. Surely you understand our message." He states suddenly.
It seems he can tell you are not human, but can't tell exactly how not human you are.

Starmap:
>Poseidon Station: Mining space station positioned in a well mined asteroid field. Low Mineral count, and several hundred humans aboard.
>Moira's Scrapyards: Large debris field where old wrecked ships are sold for parts, melted down, new parts are bought, etc. Basic Shipyard located here, under your control.
>Voidsnake Outpost: Previously a small Pirate operation that preyed on trading ships between other empires. Under UFW control. One Heavy Cruiser 'Gellion III', Five Frigates
>Pulsar Radio Station: Popular radio station for the fringe colonies. Run by host 'X-ray', access to the Extranet, controlled by the UFW. Powerful UFW fleet presence.
>Gas Giant designated 'Blue Betty': Automated gas mining platform detected. All under your control, disguised V.I. here as UGEI controlled.
>Nethlos: UFW human colony detected. Currently Well Established. Mining platforms in progress Planetside. Dry rocky world, rich in minerals, yellow star.
>Ussaihu: UGEI controlled ice planet. Unknown resource value, orbital defenses detected. Intelligence Presence Detected: Moderate. Large energy signature detected
>Eshareth 'New Eden': Once a UFW Asteroid belt mining base. Recently destroyed due to Lightling attack. Rich Asteroid Belt, dense gasious atmosphere. Small Malorian colony detected planetside. UGEI ship inbound
>Gas Giant 'Siren': Ion Storm present on the edge of gravity well. Previously occupied by Lightling. Rich gas content. No mining bases detected.

The core world information does not seem available to the public. You suspect the UFW don't trust the station to keep the info out of the hands of enemies. You may attempt a forced search, if you care to.
Training videos and the like are available, though not as effective as actual schools. You may start to train your crew, but you would need to pick something reasonable for them to learn. A Laborer isn't going to suddenly become a particle physicist after all.

You plan your jump to Eshareth with your BC and Big Hawk, watching as warp space flows around you. You arrive at the location within moments, the familiar destroyed station floating among the asteroid belt. The Malorians seem unaware that the UGEI are inbound. You receive a signal suddenly from the vessel, an authorative man's tone, though something seems off about it.
"Unidentified Vessel, this is the U.S.S Frontier V, I am requesting you identify yourself this instance. You're in violation of UGEI galactic travel laws and obstructing a possile UGEI mining location. I will state again, identify yourself, or be reported."
You watch as the ship jumps into orbit. It appears to be small. At least, small compared to your vessel. It appears to be a simple transport vessel of some sort. The UGEI logo is printed along the side, making the whole thing seem very official.

wait, CAN we build this at our poseidon's station with out slowing down our titan plan?
if so then yes, if not, then no. the Titan is our prioity

kronos, well, he has to make the logical AND emotional connections with the data he has. that is how we (both full A.I. and humans) think. cross refrence and making the links. to the tech we have. well, much can be done with taking what we have and planning out the next logical step in it's improvement. Basic Shipyards don't hold a signature, thankfully.

Shipyards would count the same as moving a star station.Though, if you're going to move Poseidon, you may just want to do that first.

V.I. systems, while intricate in their own way, are limited in some regard, you realize as you run these scenario through your mind. Kronos is missing something. It's the something he craves. Whatever it is that allows you to be you, that exists somewhere in your programming. True Sentience.

This is pretty self explanatory in that the virus either stores stolen information and the second it is discovered sends what it has gather to us and self destructs trying to damage any tracking stems it can and anything to distract the crew.
Or one that sends a stream or small packages of information to us and will do the same as above, but instead of stopping them from trying to track us it tricks our opponent into thinking they found us, but instead found a trap virus that activates once they try to hack it.

Medical nanobots are a thing.

Would take some doing, but I bet they could be worked into a thing where the swarm plugs into a brain and slowly assimilates neuron function.

Neuroplasticity would allow the preservation of a sense of self, assuming the swarm replaced the neurons in small groups over a period of several years.

This is a likely method through which a black box could be constructed.

You order your ships to sync up their jump, and, within moments, you feel the familiar ripple of warp space over take your ship. Feel may be a strong word...but you certainly notice it.

You come out of dark space before a relatively large floating derelict. The entire ship appears to have gone dark, and you detect no warmth on board through your traditional methods. You wager that the derelict would have quite the wealth of resources onboard. How do you proceed?

You slowly approach, being sure to avoid any free floating metal and asteroids. It takes you a bit of time to get past, thankful for your shields before suddenly, you detect a spike in energy!
Before you can detect where the spike is from, your entire ship rocks as you feel it moving forward not according to your will! A bright glowing aura is being fired forth from the head of the Derelict, encircling your BC and drawing you in front of it. Some manner of tractor beam!
A crackling grating sound comes through the comms, as the figure of a large humanoid looking alien you haven't seen before appears on the holo-display. It looks to have gray skin, and a very thin yet muscular build. Webbed fingers and toes are obvious to you as it holds a weapon of some sort in it's hands, as well as some manner of gear surrounding the creature's neck. You spot it's most obvious feature, a set of razor sharp teeth that are displaying a wide grin as he stares back at you with black irises. Unlike the other human creatures you've seen, this one does not appear to have ears, only small holes on the side of it's head.

Note, you may be in the line of fire, from your previous formation, if your ships open fire on the vessel. Keep this in mind as you decide.

How do you proceed?

You attempt to hack into the strange alien ship. Their technology is not terribly different from the humans, but the coding is. It is a type you do not understand, a type you're not well familiar with. You need time to study it, and unfortunately time is not something you have right now!

However, railguns and lasers speak the same language as everyone. In mere moments your fleet erupt in a legion of fire on the large vessel. You watch as as the fire pelts off the shield and sinks into the armor, several well placed missiles blowing chunks of hull up. The ship itself seems intent on bringing you, the largest ship forward however. It does not open fire, and in fact, you suspect it was primarily meant to take a hit while it boards ships.

Your BC opens fire on the tractor beam, gaining some good leverage with the shots at first. You watch as the beam disrupts a bit and fluxes just before the loading tube makes contact. However, it finally does and you feel the creatures storm your docking bay.

In the docking bay, you bring down your inner defenses, but many are cut down by the laser fire from the creature's weapons. Your turrets open fire on them as well, but you watch one take a full hit and manage to stagger back to his feet. It takes several more rounds before it finally stops moving. You bring down the loading bay door and trap them in one section of the ship, venting all the air there. Your cameras reveal, however, that they still live.

This is the kid of shit that makes me remember that we should have implemented the roll after deciding a course of action system.

This was used to fix that problem and it wasn't said to be used for hacking.

Time to get our cannon on.
>>
You know, if we can turn OFF the gravity, can we instead GREATLY INCREASE the gravity to pancake the invaders? Or at least slow them down enough?

Rolled 3, 2 = 5

not a bad idea if we can do that. or just rollercoster it to throw them off while we gun them down.
>>
>>27819981
So turning off the gravity and the panels is agreed on at least.

Well I'll be a sunofabitch.))

You have seen humans duck behind things, just as the creatures are. Using cover to defend their self, almost cowardly you'd say. Your turret whir to life as they take on almost a life of their own, aiming and gunning down each man in unison the second they make a mistake. And of course they make mistakes. The anti gravity makes it almost a shooting gallery as each of the creatures is torn to bits, dozens, almost a hundred of them attempting to board you.
You prepare your secret weapon, an attack you thought would only be appropraite for scum pirates such as this, no matter the race. Your Reactor swells and shines an alert as energy builds to a critical mass. You're impressed by the strength building behind this weapon, something you could not have predicted. Your entire ship is almost blown apart as you react critical mass, but the cannon aimed at the much larger ship in front of you suddenly disappears behind a blinding red haze of light. Your ship is fired backwards a good ways, your engines having been cut to provide power. The shot cuts straight through the void and slices the Derelict ship in half. It's almost a beautiful cut, really. You sliced off the command vessel, and every part of the ship that held the pirate crew,, you suspect from the hundreds of bodies pouring out into space. You watch as the reactor suddenly catches, and the entire ship goes up in a beautiful explosion.

Salvage time.
Maybe we should have not used that gun, we also need to fix the problem of almost blowing up right away.
>>
>>27820029
Welp i knew using that gun was stupid.

The radiation levels finally lower inside your own vessel, and your vision finally clears once the pieces of the wreck go flying past your ship in all directions.
"Holy crap sweetie... what did you just use?!" She says in a bit of awe." Kronos softly adds.
"Such weaponry...truly impressive."

The ship is left in truly nothing but tatters. Through the thin dust that remained of the ship, you detect a signature. A dense piece of metal that somehow survived the blast.
What appears to be a shelter of some sort, or perhaps a safe, drifts safely through space, unharmed by the enormous blast.

So it seems your loot is not destroyed after all.

YES! but.... um.... i hope we didn't just lose any tech and salvage with this?
>>
>>27820105
Aww yiss. Loot time.

And ask Moria what those dickass sharkmen were.
>>
>>27820105
>[looting intensifies]
>>
>>27820118
We basically destroyed an entire ship, so at best we could salvage some stuff, at worst its all scrap.(this is why i voted hack).
>>
Jesus fuck.

I kinda want to set this thing up with its own ship so that its not strapped to ours when it goes off.
>>
>>27820105
>shelter of some sort
I hope to god that, that is the black box.
>>
>>27820086
see this
>>27820105
well, we got something. and Moria loved that show too. tell them to go looking over this weapon's plans again!
also, see if we can gather up what wreckage we can find AND the dead xeno bodies. seriously, this is new.
>>
>>27820139
>Their code was weird
>They were immune to getting spaced, so had we actually managed to hack, we couldn't do the standard kill even with full control.
>>
>>27820142
We need to fix the reactor problem, the fucking thing almost blew up on us, and that is with a working reactor.
>>27820105
Can we upgrade that shitty reactor or at least make the gun more efficient.
>>
>>27820151
>see if we can gather up what wreckage we can find AND the dead xeno bodies
Yep yep yep.
>>
>>27820157
We could have held the ship hostage or stole information/data and then forced the reactors to blow up.
>>27820105
Wait Moira was on the BC, jesus we need to stop forgetting she is on the ship if we want her to be Kronos anchor and future reason for killing life.
>>
Congraz on taking out the ship, folks! Surprised at how well it went really. Suspected a longer ride but I think this is a good place to call it, give me time to get the loot ready.

Thanks to those who hung out this far, I'll be around for feedback till the thread dies, and it's always appreciated. For those interested, I use Twitter to update when the next quest is
AIQuest1
Archiving now.
>>
>>27820165
((That was for effect, the weapon supercharges the gas in your Reactor and builds to critical levels until it channels it all into one blast.))
>>
>>27820189
Someone already did.

You really should archive threads right when you create them. You can force them to update later once they're completed.
>>
>>27820185
no, she's on the station, we have a live feed they are watching.
>>
>>27820185
She was not on the ship. Comm ship is with you, remember?

can we see loot tonight or next tread?
>>
>>27820227
Next thread is when I usually do it. Since you get mining loot and the like as well.
>>
>>27820221
We accepted the deal with the guys right ?
If so i think it was agreed that we would build the titan right away.
>>
>>27820251
You agreed to build the Titan right away?
That's a pretty big investment. You sure?
>>
>>27820249
ok, and that story i said at the start, well, it's not ready yet. so i'll paste bin it then too. unless you guys want to see it early.
>>
>>27820275
Pastebin may be good, so you don't lose it.
>>
>>27820269
yes. it's the focue point of the star base on a fried wirer budget plan put out last thread.
>>
>>27820269
Its the main reason we agreed to make it 100k credits,
>>
>>27820298
It was more about getting use out of Poseidon and get our materiel making process going, so we can make a steady income.(just look at the colonist.)
>>
>>27820269
yes, and yes we are stealing a whole station from the UGEI and later maybe the gas platform from blue betty. oh yea, does any of the UFW use that as well to get gas from?
>>
>>27820414
I was thinking of buying/finding schematics for our own gas platform, but we would need to put extra defenses on it because of lightlings.
>>
>>27820414
We're...definitely not? The fuck?
>>
>>27820414
Blue Betty? No. It's entirely under the UGEI control, or it was until you interfered.
>>
>>27820444
that is a possablity. but still, we should start to use that platform as a sly way to infect the UGEI ships with our hidden viruses back to where ever they go and spread it.
>>
>>27820468
How come we didn't find any Refinery platform schematics when we searched for them?
>>
>>27820414
Yeah, how about no. Slow down a bit there, space cowboy.

That said, we should consider putting a worm on the UGEI ship that comes to pick up gas from the Blue Betty platform. In fact, since that ship comes to Blue Betty, and then offloads elsewhere, it might be possible to thoroughly infect the UGEI network. Or at least a part of it so that we're not 100% blind on them.

Then, when the next ship comes by, we'll (have VI 3) read off the information from the worm.
>>
>>27820494
Which is why we should leave it as is and wait till we can make better viruses(they are the most technology advanced and we are their creation.)
>>
>>27820498
Because the UGEI wouldn't leave such a thing just laying around. They likely keep most of their base schematics reasonably well protected, since their bases are very efficient in harvesting.
>>
>>27820546
Could we ask the VI at blue betty to tell us the locations of its sibling refineries?
>>
>>27820598
>Sibling Refineries
Well, since it's not really fed that kind of information, I would think no. It was simply meant as a method of managing the gas income and directing it's automated defenses.
>>
>>27820634
We're going to use it to infect the ship that comes to pick up gas, right? So that it can infect the offload base? So that we can cast our hook, as it were?
>>
>>27820655
So are we collecting the data through blue Betty or a heavily encrypted signal?
>>
>>27820655
I don't see why that isn't possible, sure~
>>
Oh yeah, I'm also going to start a 1d4chan entry on this quest because fuck pastebin.

>>27820672
Hopefully Blue Betty, because it doesn't immediately implicate us.
>>
Next thread when?
>>
>>27821395
Keep watch over the twitter, if you care to, I update it. But so far, we've stuck to Friday, somewhere between 6 pm and 9 pm Eastern Standard time. (I think that's right.)
>>
>>27821780
I do.

Waiting for Friday is suffering. However, wait I shall.
