As you approach each group of people generally lingering around the area, they set on edge. For some reason, none of them are willing to indulge any information to you, even if they may have had some.
After almost an hour, you're pretty sure you've asked everyone in the area, but no-one will even talk to you properly, let alone give you a straight answer.

The entire thing seems pretty hopeless. Just as you're about to give up hope, one of the nearby guards makes his way over to you.
"Lass, I don't know how helpful I can be, but... We were supposed to be expecting you to arrive with Socks' team. But they never showed. They've got their own personal camp in some buildings up to the north west of here, though. You might want to try hitting that up. They could be out that way."

Well, it's better than nothing. You give him your honest thanks. Doggy, however, simply growls at him. He scarpers away as you plan your next move.
The buildings aren't that far outside the dirt moat...

-half-eaten Ukranian chocolate bar
-half-eaten standard chocolate bar
-bottled water
-gravity artifact

Petyr's webbing
-A grenade

Weapons
-Short, light "rifle", loaded magazine
-Western multi-purpose bayonet.
-Soldier's handgun, loaded, 2 magazines.

Hmm... we ought not to sell the nade, since it might come in handy in a pinch (Read: we break some poor rookie bandit's jaw while shoving it down his throat, pin pulled, the only thing keeping him alive being the pressure of his mouth on the spoon).
Maybe we could pop the nade in our backpack and sell the web gear? Also, how many rubles do we have?

>>
>>27822261
No point rushing into something new unprepared. You head back to the bar now that you've fulfilled the barkeep's suggestion of Arena fighting and acquiring "money".

Entering the bar, you notice significantly less people lingering about. Maybe they just went to bed already? Whatever, you head to the bar, where the keep greets you with a grin.
"So, you're back here alive, eh? Suppose you managed to get yourself some money then, and your first thought was to come give it to me? Heh."

"I did!" you squeak in delight, pulling the clasp-full of ruble notes from your pocket and plomping it onto the bar.
"What can I get for this?"

His eyes widen a fraction before he composes himself, "quite a lot, girly. Quite a lot. What is it you're after and I'll see what I can do..."

Do you have any better clothes?" you ask him, "These jeans are getting really holey already. I think I need something sturdier."

"Hmm, well. Nothing in your size, I'm afraid, but..."
After a few moments of rummaging, he returns to line a couple sets of clothing across the bar before you.
"With your cash, you can afford any of these with a little to spare. Some are more than others, obviously."

[ ]First, there's a simple water-proof jacket. It comes with some fingerless gloves and a thick woolen shirt.

[ ]Second, a leather anorak with something hard sewn into the inside lining. Comes with a set of spare clothes.

[ ]Third, a set of camoflaged cargo pants and a really heavy vest that looks like a better version of your webbing.

[ ]And finally, a full suit for... something. Full-body, brown overalls, some kneepads, fingerless gloves, boots and a breathing mask.

Needless to say, all these clothes are near twice your size.

Or,
[ ]Don't buy, continue shopping.
>>

I'd say the jacket. We're gonna need to loot some body armor off of someone.

As you examine the different sets available, you absentmindedly ask: "What's in those buildings to the north west? Just outside the moat."

"North west? Hmm. Not much. I know there are a couple loner gangs like to set up bed spaces there. Some folk don't trust us here, think civilization is impossible in the Zone. They only come here while fully armed, and even then only to trade before bugging back out to the wilderness. Why d'you ask?"

"Oh, no reason. I was just curious, since it doesn't look abandoned."
>>
>>27822775
good good, because if it was a trap, we would have to come back and be not at all happy with the mister guard
>>
>>27822692
We can't use that. Unless he can fix it for us, there's no sense in buying.
>>
>>27822692
After some thought, you decide to take the heavier webbing vest.
"Hey, I can't really wear both of these at the same time... Do you want to have my old vest?"

"Sure thing, that'll knock the price down a little for you, too."

You nod, take off your vest and hand it to him (after emptying the pockets). He then takes a wad of cash from your clip, and begins packing the other clothes away, leaving you with your new set. You grab the cargo pants and scurry into a dark corner behind the bar where no-one can see you and strip your jeans off to try the pants on. They're... a big long, and very baggy. But you find a way to roll the legs up and stuff them into your socks so that you can move around mostly unhindered. You use your pink leather belt to re-secure the pants about your waist.

Trying on the vest, you find it significantly heavier than Petyr's webbing, but it's got just as many pockets, and better yet- it's a smaller size. You pull on all the straps until it's as tight as it can go and it fits you snugly.

You also start to wonder if maybe you should acquire some sort of shirt in the near future. Your pseudo-shirt of tightly-wrapped bandages isn't exactly... concealing.

After this sale, you don't have near as much money as you did.

Moving back to the bar, you ask the keep for some food. Chocolate's good and all, but you could use a change of pace.

"Well, we've got some canned food about here. It's good and cheap, but cans are heavy. Not sure if you'd like that. There are the rations, too. Good source of everythin' the body needs, but it'll cost you. Most of what you've got left."

"It's ok," you reply, "I'm stronger than I look! Cans please!"

"Welp, it's your money, girly," he sighs as he hands you a variety of canned food. He takes another half of your remaining notes, then hands the money clasp back to you.

You get the strange feeling that he may have been less than honest in the amount he was taking...

You wrap the cans in your jeans and place them at the bottom of your backpack. The artifact takes the weight nicely, and you barely notice a change.

With what little money you have left, you assume you're done buying, pocket the remainder and head for the door.

Outside, you look about, trying to get your bearings. You've never really been good with directio- ah! You remember you have Socks' compass! Taking it from your pocket, you turn about the spot until you work out which direction is northwest. This thing could be useful! You hang it by the string about your neck in an easily accessible fashion, then head for the compound exit closest to your direction of travel.
>>
>>27823267
lets go find that Ice man, he promised us chocolate
>>
>>27823267
You leave the compound, pass a wooden plank bridge over the moat, and head in the direction of the buildings on the horizon. Doggy lingers for a moment on the bridge, but after you beckon him, he moves to your side. You depart for your new destination. It shouldn't take too long to get there.

------------------------
"See? What did I tell you? Combat efficiency."
"Uh huh... she's also already getting a name for herself. I'm not even sure we'd be safe with her after that show..."
------------------------

You finally reach the buildings. The district looks much the same size as the compound you just left, almost a town in its own right. The buildings look mostly intact, too, only missing most of their windows, some door fallen from their hinges.

But more imminently, you can't see any signs of life. There are no signs of any living thing having passed through this area in at least a week.
Then again, maybe the folk who are here are simply good at concealing their presence.

You

No answer.
You can hear the wind whistling through the open cabin of a nearby abandoned truck.
Something definitely feels off about this place.
There aren't even any insects making noise.

"Anyone? Is anyone here? Hellooooo...?"
There's a scuffle of movement. You try to turn to face it, but something dark is pulled down over your head. A hand grips your wrist, pulling it up behind your back. You can't move. There's a funny smell near your face. You can feel yourself losing conciseness.

"Package secured. Zhenya squad, fall back to point Boris Three-Seven and await extract."

You hear more people moving about you. You feel yourself being lifted bodily into the air and tossed over someone's shoulder.

As the world begins to return, you hear noise you're unfamiliar with. A rapid whop-whop-whop of something beating the air. There's a terrible wind tearing at your clothes, as you're still being jostled about on someone's shoulder. You can hear a few men shouting over the noise as it grows closer and closer, the wind gaining even more power.

The sound is directly above you now, and bodies are moving past you. You can hear boots on metal. You're manhandled through a narrow space and thrust into a seat. You're strapped in tightly, and the whopping increases until you can feel the plate metal under your feet begin to lift, as though you were in an elevator.

A hand grasps the top of your head and pulls the sack from your face. "Welcome to Operation Tension, my dear Package. We've risked a lot to get our hands on you, you know. I really hope you prove to be as useful as the General thinks."
You take a moment to look around the cramped compartment you've found yourself in. every available seat is filled with a well armed man in dark camouflage. They're clearly professional, and they're all staring at you.
The man standing in front of you is the only one not wearing a full helmet, but even he still has a breathing mask dangling about his neck.

The floor tips suddenly, and you realize you're inside some form of aircraft as you see the landscape being to zoom past in a porthole across from you.

"Pilot, radio it in. We've got the package and we're en route back now. Tell them to prep the interrogation chamber for our imminent arriva-"
His words are cut short by a gigantic crash of thunder outside. The horizon, barely visible through the view-ports, takes on a distinctly orange glow.
"Oh you have got to be fucking with me. PREPARE FOR EMISSION, EVERYONE BUCKLE IN. PILOT, GET US THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
>>
>>27823752
Every man quickly begins securing themselves even tighter into their seats, stowing things under their seats, making sure all their pockets are closed securely. The man stood in front of you is clearly in a panic- there are no free seats, he can't belt himself in.

You could offer him yours...

You can't see any good openings, nor a point in risking an encounter in such confined quarters against so many armed men. You take a seat on the man's lap and await the wall of fire rapidly approaching you. Everyone else is bracing as hard as they can, as if to resist the impact with sheer willpower. That's silly. They should just learn to go with the flow, like you. You allow every muscle in your body to relax. The wall of fire hits the craft. You feel the shock pass through the metal walls. The aircraft is swept up in an ungodly wind, tossed like a plaything through the skies along the crest of the wave. The men are screaming, you can feel their terror. It pleases you. One of the windows near you cracks, smashing inwards to allow a torrent of fire to spew into the passenger space, engulfing the men sat across from you.

It's a beautiful sight.

The man to your left leans forward and pukes onto the deck as the ride continues to spin out of control. You're aware of your altitude decreasing rapidly. The floor should be coming up any time soon...

There's a squeal from the pilot's chair, and then a
CRASH
There it is...
The impact tosses you across the compartment, into the bodies on the far side. You hear a number of cracks, presumably someone's bones breaking somewhere.

The wave of fire and death passes, leaving the wreck in silence where it fell.
The world seems sideways. You can hear someone moaning in pain, and a few angry mutterings; the majority of those on board are deathly silent.

You right yourself from your up-side-down resting place and begin crawling along the bodies of those still strapped into their seats. Only one cries out as you pass him, your knee pressing into his chest. You ignore him and continue towards the pilot's cabin. Both pilots are missing, and there's a large hole in the front windshield. You pop open a hatch in the roof and clamber outside, slithering down to the ground.

You have no idea where you are. You're in a large, open field. To one side, some distance away, is a thick wood. To the other is a huge ruined city block.

The survivors in the wreck behind you are starting to move about, breaking free of their restraints and checking on their comrades. There aren't many of them left mobile, but they still outnumber and outgun you.

You should

You can't give them time to recover. They might come after you again. You make your way to the back of the helicopter, and begin to pry open the rear hatchway. There are six men moving about in various states of health an armament. They're too far apart to take out in one sweep, too. There's no way you could take them all out with just your bayonet.
Good thing you have more than one weapon.

"Ah, girl! Help us!" the soldier nearest to you has noticed you. Damn, that'll make this bit more painful. For them.

You pull your handgun from your belt, flick the safety off and fire in one smooth motion, blowing the soldier's brains out the back of his head.

Why are we killing them again? They seemed like fun. I hope we will find doggy soon...
>>
>>27825291
Because people have to learn that if you want something, you have to ask nicely, not kidnap people. Also, they might have nice stuff, and we want it.
>>
>>27825291
Because bloodthirsty players are perfectly fine with us getting lost out here, wherever that is.
>>
>>27825291
The Zone is a harsh mistress. Fuck up the slightest and it will take you. And even if you don't fuck up, she'll still take you when she thinks the time is right. I mean who would had thunk there was was going to be a blowout right then?

I kinda counted on it. I don't know the exact explanation yet, but it seems clear that proximity to Loli leads to an extremely high chance of getting fucked over by fate.

I don't get how this is a reason for killing those dudes. Could you please explain, why the Zone being harsh means we should kill the entire group that was with us and go alone?

We are the Zone
>>
>>27825420
Because instead of asking nicely, they stole us away and were talking about interrogating us.
>>
>>27825420
Because the first thing they did was knock us out and throw us on a helicopter, they could have asked us nicely and we wouldn't be cutting bitches right now
>>
>>27825420
Well we shouldn't kill them because of the Zone. We should kill them because kidnappers pig disgusting.

Well, I personally prefer just leaving, but you know.

They saw us for the murder-machine we are and quite clearly wanted us to work for them but thought us too dangerous to go with them unbound. I would have gone with them and helped them for shits and giggles. And then maybe later killed them all at their base and not just a small group of them in a helicopter in the middle of no-where.

The Zone is....Young so to speak. Just came into the world and there are men all over her, stealing and killing. So she made the anomalies, to kill those not wary enough. But this only made the remaining humans stronger, better. But then came one like herself, a little girl. And The Zone gave this little girl her blessing and so she became an avatar of death. Her mission to cleanse the zone.

>>27825420
The Zone's a bitch and only bad things happen. When a stalker enters The Zone they do not think it will be easy and that nothing terrible will happen to them. Bandits shoot you in the back when you're about to pick up a sweet stash that barman told you about. Dogs and boars swarm and eat you because you went too far into the forest. Stalkers stab you in the back and let you bleed for some 5.56 ammo.
What I mean is that shit happens and it's mostly for the worse.
If you wrong someone in any way expect death in return. Such is life in The Zone
>>
>>27825192
Slow. You move your aim to the next man and fire.
Slow. Adjust again, squeeze again.
Slow. They've barely reacted beyond their initial jump for weapons.
Slow. They're so slow it's painful to watch.
The last man, furthest from you, has managed to bring his handgun to bear on you.
Slow. You blow his fingers off. Then put a follow-up round through his face.

Well, that's dealt with those who can stand...
Now you make your way through the compartment, checking the pulse of every one of the soldiers. Luckily, only two need a further bullet to send them to their eternal slumber.

With that bit out of the way, you rifle through a few pockets looking for anything useful. Most of it's junk- the weapons are larger than you'd like, the ammunition is a different size to yours,- but you do manage to replace the pistol magazine you just used up, as well as taking an extra grenade and another two things that look kind of like grenades. Your vest pockets are now full, though.
The soldier without the helmet has a nice looking cap, so you decide to take that for yourself.

Finishing up, you head back outside, preparing to...

-ObEy-

you're struck in the side of the head. You bat away and clutch your head in pain, but there's nothing actually there

-oBeY-

There's a voice nearby, ordering you to

-oBeY tHe M0n0l1tH-

No, it's inside your head!

-c0mE, Si5tEr, Ob3y tHe M0n0l1tH-

The pressure, it hurts. Your mind is being crushed.

"Get...out...of my... HEAD!" The pressure is too much, you fall to your knees. Your vision is fading. You know you can't close your eyes, you won't be the same person when you open them.

"All hail the Monolith." You can hear people approaching. "Praise be unto the Monolith." They surround you, lift you into the air. You can barely struggle through the pain.

"Blessed are those who serve the Monolith." You just can't... keep your eyes... open...

Blood. Death. Darkness. Blood. Screaming. Fear. Joy. Blood. It's so exciting! Death. Terror. Blood.
------------------------

You open your eyes. You're in a dingy room with concrete walls. You're pretty sure you're underground. At least, there are no windows.

The room is filled with figures, most sat leaning against the walls, one or two stumbling about. They're all wearing black armored suits with metal supports and full face breathing masks.

The man lying next to you rolls over. "Where... am I...?" he asks no-one in particular.

You don't answer. Because you don't know either...
