This is a quest taking place in the Teen Titans animated universe, as well as (loosely) the larger DCAU.

Are you new? You can get caught up at http://pastebin.com/cEFrBd9d

We'd love for you to join us!

Updates resume shortly.

Ok so guys, listen.

We have a lot on our plate today. Terra is going to show up, and Jinx and Raven are probably going to brain surgery on us.

So we probably have a limited amount of time before our attention is forced on those things.

I really, really think we have stuff to talk about with Starfire. I mean Cyborg is doing fine, but with Starfire she said we'd talk later, and I think we should before shit hits the fan again.

Agreed. She's probably in her room resting, so let's check that out first.
>>
A running leap is given, sending you out into the night.

Robin is ahead; his racing footsteps can be heard throwing sand aside as he sprints for his target.

Woods are rising as you draw near. Stifling darkness waits within them; a midnight's shadow away from civilization. The faintest glimmers, barely noticeable but certainly present, flicker all around.

A biting cold numbs your fingers. Airborne sand scratches your throat. A sudden entry to the thicket marks cuts and irritation upon you, and yet you carry on.

The sounds are your directors. Your leader and his prey, heard but unseen. A frantic yelling only hastens your movement.

Now you're here. A steel corridor hidden among the trees. This is where you need to be; you know it. This is where the things in the night make their home.

One is ahead.

It turns to face you.

(...)

You open your eyes.

Wait, what? How'd you get back to your bedroom?

Damn! You missed the party. Raven might be upset, but hey, you still had fun playing some video games with Robin. You guys got way too into it; eventually, the two of you just fell asleep in the game room.

You must've gotten up at night and gone back to your bed. You were probably too sleepy to remember doing it. Oh well; it was a nice night, party or no.

It's a beautiful morning at the peaceful beach resort! You feel well-rested and energetic!

T: See if there's a kitchen in this place.
U: Head down to the shore.
V: Go straight for the city! You want to see the sights.

Anything as long as it isn't more goddamn vidya.
We missed the party and talking with Star or Cy because we wanted to play racing with Robin. I mean, we even had the option to tell Robin that his vidya was gay and leave.
>>
>>27866560

Oh so you knew that we would chase suspicious figure into the night and wake up in our bed with memory lapses?
>>
>>27866560
Even if Star isn't up and around, she'll probably want to do stuff other than vidya. Just talk about happy stuff and be all comfy
>>
>>27866584
Am I the only one thinking that next time, if only to make sure we're covered for missing the party, we should grab the rest of the team?
>>
>>27866595
I would love that so hard. Shame she can't go on the beach since all the sand would get in her terrible wounds.
Hanging in the beach house would be cool too, though. Maybe we can finally have some tropical drinks? There has to be a bar around the place...
>>
>>27866584
No, but it was obvious that it'd be a damn waste of time, considering that if we wanted to bond with Robin we'd be sparring instead. Video games with Robin is just pointless. No skills gained and minimal fun had.
>>
>>27866621

I kind of have conflicting feelings about it.

I mean I kind of feel like whoever is messing with us does not just want to kill us outright. Like we're there for a reason, or we need to completely let our guard down first. I feel like involving the whole team might hurt everybody somehow, like they'll be like "fuck it, it isn't working just kill them" or something.
>>
>>27866710

I think we're kind of jumpy when we're offered character interaction stuff. Like we couldn't have done anything else with Robin that day.

You want to know if there's a kitchen in this place; you're starving!

Some quick searching leads you to your destination. A room with a floor of tiles (a nice change, you must admit) and several counters scattered about.

Over one counter, you see a hulking, hunched-over form, covered by a white apron, and topped by a puffy hat.

It's Cyborg. He's cooking.

"Yo!" He calls out, turning to you, but keeping you from spotting whatever it is that's behind him. "You're just in time!"

"I am?" Asks Beast Boy, surprising everyone in the room as he drops from the ceiling in the form of an insect and reverts to a human being on the way down.

"You too." Cyborg's shock wears off, and he pulls a large, white plate from behind his back.

"Introducing the bacon waffle!" He says, proudly displaying his creation. The seem to be strips of bacon, battered and fried.

A: That sounds like the tastiest thing you've ever heard of.
B: That sounds like the grossest thing you've ever heard of.
C: It looks good, but you'll politely refuse.

NOW he's speaking your language.

"Dude, come on!" Says Beast Boy, going to the fridge to get a different meal.

"Suit yourself." Cyborg replies, throwing off the apron. "I'm hittin' the the beach!"

He exits with enthusiastic strides, leaving you and Beast Boy alone together. Your green companion is currently pouring milk into a bowl of cereal.

You munch away at Cyborg's creation. It's delicious.

"I don't know if I can do this, dude."

What? Oh, of course; Terra's probably going to be here soon. Beast Boy's probably getting nervous doubts.

He gives a snappy sigh.

"What if, ya know, she doesn't return the feelings?"

D: Tell him that she will. You're sure of it.
E: Tell him to just stay confident and go for it. Otherwise, he'll never know.
F: Tell him not to get his hopes up.

He strides past you with a beaming grin. His hand firmly pats you on the shoulder.

"Thanks!" He says.

You feel as though you have grown closer to Beast Boy, as both a companion, and a friend.

You're full and full of energy! There's a set of swimming trunks in your room, a whole city out there to explore, and several of your friends in the beach house to visit!

What do you do?

You scope out the beach house, looking for other residents.

Down the hall from your bedroom, you notice an open door, and the foot of a white bed inside of it. This must be where Starfire rests.

"Hello, friend." Says a harmonious voice from within the room. Starfire must have noticed you.

"Please, come in. Did you wish to speak with me?"

You see her now, under the covers. Only her head is visible, but she's clearly in a better mood than usual. The smile has widened considerably.

Well, that certainly makes sense. It isn't like there's very much for her to do.

"But, please." She begins, politely. "What is it you wish to speak about? I anxiously await our conversation!"

Starfire blinks several times, and grins with high spirits. She must be greatly enjoying your company.

She's the one who's been cooped up in here; you want to know if she has anything to talk about.

"There are many things." She says. "But your Earth medicine is notably strong, and I may not remain awake for much longer."

That's fine with you.

"Very well." Starfire begins. "I first must ask you: Have you enjoyed your time with us?"

That wasn't the question you expected.

"Many terrible things have happened, and I fear our team may never reclaim the simple and joyful days of the past. Things were not always like this; there were happier times, and though you have shared in a number of recent successes, your sacrifices have been great. I hope that you do not regret meeting us."

N: You could never regret meeting the Titans. You love being on this team!

I know what you mean, but I think my joy at being able to have friends like the Titans is the most important thing to say. Its the truth.

I mean we've obviously had trouble, and we wish we could've done things better, but we've apologized to star, and we're trying to do good by the Titans.

The fact that it is hard goes without saying. The fact that it doesn't subtract from the fact that we love this team needs to be said.
>>
>>27868617
You're right anon! I feel better now.
>>
>>27868367
Is she kidding? You love being on this team!

"Truly?" She questions, closing her eyes and lighting up with a contented grin. "That is good. I am happy you are here."

The room is quiet, but not awkward. You feel as though you have become closer to Starfire.

She looks sleepy. The two of you exchange a goodbye, and you leave her to her rest.

It's a bright, beautiful morning at the paradise resort! Sunbeams are streaming through slots in the walls.

Q: It's time to hit the beach!
R: See what's going on in Coast City!
S: Look around the building for other Titans.

You aren't going out just yet. First, you'll take the time to explore a little more.

Okay, this place isn't that big. You've managed to get a pretty good idea of how to find your way around.

You've noticed several doors near your own, and you're fairly confident of whose rooms they conceal.

Now your options are a little more robust!

However, to your disappointment, no one else seems to be here. Not that you can blame them; it's irregularly warm and sunny outside.

You have become more familiar with the layout of the beach house, and will now be able to select whose room you'd like to visit.

When they're inside, that is.

You slip on your swimming trunks and head out to the beach.

Robin and Cyborg are playing volleyball, and ask you to join them.

A green dolphin bursts out of the ocean, performing several impressive flips.

It's a nice day. The nicest, perhaps.

ELSEWHERE...

"I'm telling him today." Says Raven, arms folded.

"Yeah, fine." Jinx replies, pacing through the Titan's room. "But, you know... We could do a little more than that."

Raven raises an eyebrow. Whatever Jinx has in mind, it won't be easy; both of the magical practitioners know this.

"He couldn't have just wiped it all out. Not like he can do to a normal brain. I bet..." Jinx points at Raven to make the point. "...I bet it's just another barrier. If we break it down, we could..."

"No." Raven interrupts. "It's too dangerous and you know it. We'd need a direct mental conduit to even think about repairing that kind of..."

Jinx grins. Raven understands.

"You don't really think..." Raven starts.

"Yeah. I do." Jinx finishes with a wide, almost evil smile.

"You know what he'd see. Everything. All of it."

"So would you. That's the idea."

"Ugh."

Probably not. You should watch selected episodes, because a lot of them are just fighting filler.

>Never watched the show, is it something that i should also pick up?

I don't know how it would hold up if you strip away the nostalgia. It's a solid kid's show and the characters have a great team dynamic, but I wouldn't start watching it in my adult years for the first time. Then again, if you have some free time why the fuck not?
>>
>>27869893
It's really good, I didn't like the last episode though. People say it's a tribute to some classic anime, but it's not a satisfying ending for a western audience.

Jinx and Raven approach you just as the game with your companions ends.

They're fully dressed, and Raven has her hood turned up. A shadow obscures her face, and it doesn't seem like she's out here to have fun in the sun.

"We have something to tell you." Jinx says, putting a hand on her hip. Behind her, Robin and Cyborg exchange brief, solemn glances.

Alright then. This situation is a bit strange to you, but you'll hear what she has to say.

"We had some complications during the whole 'cold weather' ceremony. You let a few things slip your mind."

Raven stays quiet while Jinx speaks, but the pink-haired Titans throws an arm around her with enthusiasm.

"Luckily for you, I know a little bird who can get them back. Isn't that right, Raven?"

Jinx seems elated. You're just confused.

Raven sighs.

"Ugh."

It depends. Sometimes heavy use of descriptors is called for, but other times it is not. It depends upon the pace and flow of the work.

I hardly use them in this story, but then again, this is written as a rough draft (if even that) for the sake of time. I sometimes turn up the descriptions and indirect narrative when drama is happening, though.

See: A certain paragraph just before the big Raven or Jinx decision on the beach a while back. I fluffed that up a bit, and I think it enhanced the dramatic tension.

It's not like I saved them anywhere, and I've typed way too much on this to get interested enough to break it down in detail right now.

That said, to be brief, it closes out Beast Boy's personal arc through the show, as well as the largest running theme of each season.

Every season of Teen Titans is about giving up what you desire most in the world to fulfill your bigger, more important responsibilities. That's a running idea they've carried beautifully, and they continue to expand upon it there.

Robin hurts his team to save their life. Terra betrays her best friend to control her destructive powers (though she's much more complex than that). Cyborg prepares to leave the Titans behind to lead Titans East (though this is again more complex, and a sort of false play at the theme). Raven has begun to think of her role in the end of the world as a responsibility that she can't escape from, and destroys everything to bring it about (again this is more complex, and acts as a sort of dark side to the theme).

In Things Change, Beast Boy gets a call from his team, telling him that they need help. He turns away from Terra, leaves her behind, and goes out to help them. She's all he wants right then; he's desperate for her; but he leaves her behind and goes into the light, finishing his development line as a character, and not only cementing the general theme, but also solidifying a certain message that the show had been conveying all along.

Which I'd get into if I cared to right now, but I still haven't touched on the writing, the subtle visual efforts, the fulfilled sub-themes, and other things that made Things Change (in my opinion) so brilliant as a final entry.

Maybe I'll get into it some other time.
>>

I just can't resist continuing this. God, Teen Titans does some BRILLIANT things with its visual design.

Look at that image of Terra. Notice how her chin is pointed, her eyes are slanted, and her nose is highly underplayed? Notice how it makes her features snake-like? Those are the features commonly associated with temptation and betrayal, and they add to the growing feeling of unease and apprehension the audience gets towards Terra as her episodes progress.

Well the first guess I'm having is that Jinx and Raven are going to use Raven's mirror as a conduit into our mind. But I'm really not confident about that idea.

I think it'll have to be some kind of three-way mindmeld.

In any case, neither of them probably know the finer details of the crash where we killed Raven, so hopefully everybody will lose their shits over that.

I might reread that part just to hype myself up.

>mfw jinx nerfs Donn to Dr. Manhattan proportions and then manipulates time and space to save gotham
>>
>>27872004
Except it's not just a single date, it's our entire memory of a person. A person we saved from death, fought alongside, and had at least a strong friendship with. Think about it:

The incident with Brother Blood? Gone.

Choosing to save her life instead of Raven's? Gone.

All the interaction on the island? Gone.

And yes, even the date matters.
>>
>>27872070
>They already walked around in our minds, this isn't anything new for us.

But they haven't.
>>
>>27872101
Well what could go wrong if they do?
What are they gonna do? Sue us?
>>
>>27872070

They've never walked around in our memories. Only briefly while we were conscious to teach us powers.

>>27872028

Overlooking what? Jinx clearly wants us to remember her, Raven is not so sure. We know mind melds can go really badly, so if she wants to do that it's a bad idea.
>>
>>27872098
and the joker stuff, don't forget that
>>
Let's not forget that if they really can restore our memories, we might also remember what happened when we kept blacking out. I say it's worth it.
>>
>>27872098

>The incident with Brother Blood? Gone.

That was so long ago I can't remember it. That said, we do know about all those instances, just not Jinx's part. It's been what, a few months in the timeline? A short conversation could bring Donn up to speed. Hardly the bond you're making out here...
>>
>>27872117

What are you even saying?

The things you are saying don't make any sense.

If we have our mental restraints removed, we lose.

And it is a factual fact that they have not invaded the privacy of our mind at any point.
>>
>>27872075
Time-Space fuckery would probably entail repercussions that we could not even begin to fathom.

Than again, this is the DC universe. Massive world changing events and death reverse themselves all the time, so go for it.
>>
>>27872149
EXACTLY

HOLY SHIT i thought i was the only one thinking it, THANK YOU!
>>
>>27872098

Oh man.

No wonder we told Starfire that things have been great so far.
>>
>>27872188

So time together with Jinx is good?

Or am i getting mixed signals here?
>>
>>27872149

This is a better point. Depending how bullshit this threat is, we might have to risk it.
>>
>>27872140
Dammit, I thought I missed something. Thank you.
>>27872164
> Hardly the bond you're making out here
It's exactly the bond I'm describing. Jinx and Raven have been our two most-interacted with Titans, for both training and otherwise. It's completely worth showing them our perspective if it means getting back memories of one of them.

I honestly think this guy is just getting a reaction out of us here, that or he REALLY hates Jinx.
>>
>>27872231
No remembering the dark shit has left us rather blissful.
>>
>>27872231

No what I meant is that because a lot of the painful memories we have are obscured, our adventure with the titans are actually a lot more fun than it would seem to him. It was kind of a joke.

Why do I even try communicate to you people on 4chan. Maybe party anon has the right idea.
>>
>>27872283
So wait, The dark times where we freaked out over Jinx was our best moments, cause we care for her?

Im not getting you.
>>
>>27872280
Well, as long as it's just the one guy. I got worried that a signifigant number of voters were against us.
>>
>>27872304

We can't die.

There's no reason to think a coma is possible.

The memory thing is a gamble, yeah.

Did you really think we could die? Are you new?
>>
>>27872304

That should read "memory of a very brief friendship".
>>
Somebody please make a new Teen Titans Quest general thread. We're nearing the end, big stuff is coming up tomorrow, and I have more to say.
>>
>>27872345

Are we about to be trimmed?
>>
>>27872329
Fuck no, A lot of people seem to agree to let them into our head and snoop in our memories, i trust them better than Mcfuckup Main character going through his own head.
>>
Reposting for grammar fix.

>>27872254

Going into our memories so they can see what's causing blackouts is a good point.

Risking death, coma, loss of more memories for a very brief friendship is not a good point.

Time together is good.
All those bad things that happened to her? We don't remember them anymore I believe.
So instead of horrible, we remember our missions being only bad.
At least that's what I believe.
>>
>>27872338

Are you new? I'm not talking about Donn. The very first thing Raven told us about mind melding is you risk even death.
>>
>>27872352
Very, very soon, Page 9 of 10 and falling.
>>
>>27872375
I figure he get the point sooner or later...
>>
>>27872384

She meant of the other person.

She means that we could've killed BB.
>>
>>27872369
Friendships don't have to be long to be worth saving. And this one is definitely fucking worth it.
>>
>>27872409

>"Unless..." She begins. "It would still be risky, but I could support your mind-shifting ability, and you could enter his head alongside me. We could go in together, and try to bring Beast Boy back."

>It sounds like a perfectly reasonable plan, but Raven continues. "This is dangerous. You can refuse if you'd like. You may fall into a coma yourself. You may die. If you do make it out, you may not ever be the same."

There is a risk is on the mind melder. Remember when BB's memories starting physically kicking the everliving shit out of us?

So its a plan then? We're letting them into our minds and try to fix things?

Well, Be prepared for mind melding guys, we weren't successful before, but maybe things will be different. OR NOT.

Seriously, we could fuck up bigger things than forgetting Jinx, so be PREPARED.

That'd be a kick in the nuts. Without our crowning moment of awesome we'd regress back to self pity mode.

You'd be fine.

Really uncomfortable for a long time, though.

I kinda meant anyone besides us.

Thanks for responding though. That would suck.

We only got one teammate killed, twice.

I think we're hardcore at scarring our friends more.
>>

Not taking the shirts off was just so bad.

You can tell how first world most of 4chan is when nobody knows the causes of hypothermia and how to treat it.
>>
>>27872004
It doesn't seem like that big of a deal, everything from before we were titans seems like it'd be being a hobo.

Either that or we remember things that aren't in our current memory.

Either is fine.
>>
>>27873541
>We remember our name
>Its really fucking Lame
>We stick with Donn Mortem instead.
