So I've be re-reading the story, and I have a question.

In the beginning when we had options, it was always something like:

>E: Go visit Jinx. You want to talk to her about the things she said to you.
>F: Go see Raven in the medical wing. You saved her life, and you've been wondering if she's okay.
>G: Go see Robin. You still have a payment to discuss, which is not to mention several other serious matters.

Where there would be the thing we would do, followed by a sentence indicating the intention that would kind of answers the question "Why would we do that?"

Lately, if we got a similar array of options it just looks like:

>V: Search for Jinx.
>W: Go to Robin's office.

So that things are just really ambiguous. What's with the change?

Raven herself sweeps in with a hushed glide and closes the door in her wake. Jinx is left outside to lean patiently against a wall in the hallway. It seems that seclusion is critical for the success of this activity.

A hood is lowered, and you are observed. Some seconds pass this way.

"Sit next to me." Raven mutters, taking a spot on the edge of her rickety bed.

You do as instructed.

"Look." Her hands fold in her lap. She gazes down at them. "We're going to make a direct connection. I'm going to fix you."

Raven doesn't seem entirely excited to be doing this.

A: What, exactly, will the two of you be doing?

So because it seems in our near future we plan on doing some sensual mind healing with at least two-thirds of the females we've maimed on this team, I think its important that we all analyze and agree on how this shit works.

Here were our choices right before we went to revive Beast Boy from his coma, the first time we ever used mindmeld.

We picked E, the incorrect answer, which then caused Raven to go

And then we continued to pick options that rejected Beast Boy's dialog, and were essentially "Panic and try to escape" options.

In almost every one of these dream sequences, Humble gives us options that are essentially.

>A. Let what would naturally happen next in the scene happen.
>B. Back out and do not let the scene play out as it would naturally happen.

The key to having a successful, non-brain damaging mindmeld is to always pick A.
But how do you tell how a memory is supposed to play out? It seems that Humble always gives us context in the description.

During BB's mindmeld, we were told

>From the back seat, you see two people in the front. You love these people. You love the man driving, but even more than that, if it's even possible, you love the woman in the seat next to him.

This is obviously Beast Boy in a car with his parents. If we had just picked the A choices, letting the scene play out as it should, we would have picked the dialog choices. But we freaked out, and chose the B option instead.

This was admittedly, very difficult. But after this mindmeld, we can be sure that we will always be in the perspective of the person we are mindmelding with. Our options were either "A: Find a way to create more sparks." or "B: Have fun!". Because Humble described both the sparks and the happiness equally in the update, it is difficult to tell which choice is the A choice. But Humble ended the description with the fact that she could not possibly be more ENTERTAINED, which was a dead givaway that investigating the sparks would be the most inappropriate option compared to having fun. Considering that we have improved mindmeld since then, mindmelds with Starfire or Jinx later on should be easier to decipher, AS LONG AS WE ALL KNOW HOW IT WORKS.

Now I will admit, this is basically a working theory based off of what we have experienced so far. To the best of our knowledge, this is how we mindmeld with other people.

Also, I'll go ahead and mention that during the sequence where we were mindmelding ourself, allowing ourself to die was the A option, and using our powers to escape was the B option.


TL;DR: We are always in the perspective of the person we are mindmelding, never pick the option that rejects the scene or is inappropriate for the scene's description.

That update I just lost was not only huge, but probably my favorite thing I've yet written for this story. It was a really beautiful and ornate way to describe what is about to take place, and it's gone forever. I'm trying to rewrite it, but the vague memories of my words are prohibiting me from making new, equally good material. What's more, I cannot remember the old material to recreate it.

This next update might take a good long time. I'm having immense difficulties right now that only time can work out of me.

So Raven's existence was originally intended to be a portal for Trigon to take over the mortal realm.

Raven was raised by the witches of azarath, who she considers to be her real parental figures. She learned to control her emotions, along with her powers, from there, I think. Eventually she wanted to revolt against her fate, trying to do good and to be a hero, instead of being the key to the End of the World.

So she joined the titans. Her greatest fear was that her fate was inescapable, no matter how much good she does. When the day of prophecy came, she accepted her fate as her father had ordained for her, but she left her final hope in the Titans, giving them some of her power.

In the end, when Robin saved helpless child Raven from hell, and they took one final stand against Trigon, she saw that they could hurt him, and that her father was not invincible and that her fate was not set in stone.

Any nuances of Raven's character you guys can think of other than that?
