Returning to the world of monsters? Good to see you again.

Previously: Our young hero, Cerulean awoke from her surgery, bearing high functioning biology procured from a seal monster colloquially known as "Seel." Roused with her first rite of passage as a ranger done and over with, she greets her hometown friends, Aqua and Marine, whom have received Staryu and Squirtle, respectively.

An esper child from Saffron Quarter met our young heroine with a foul temper, while a gray child of the same origin greeted her warmly, though with an uncharacteristic physique.

During their time training at the Cerulean gym with Leader Misty, Cerulean had begun to give her friends a bit of the cold shoulder to keep them from pestering her about what Sergeant Azure had said. She didn't want them to know that Lorelei of the Elite Four was her mother.

As time and basic training dragged on, Cerulean found herself regretting ever claiming that she intended to be the very best. Everyone she fought seemed to have an unavoidable advantage.
After some lazy wisdom from a senior student and reconciling with her friend Marine, Cerulean found a new bit of confidence.

Her story now continues.

Quick question, if Voltorb are made by people dose to be used as mini generators that means the Electrode are just simply upgraded version?
>>
>>27940241
Silly question:
How many point does it take to upgrade a 0 level skill? Is it considered unlocked? I assume 1 point.

>Requires rank equivalent skill points to upgrade and 1 skill point to unlock.

Volt orbs switch polarities when overcharged.
They are known to explode at the next and slightest bit of contact due to their unstable energy.
Few can harness it safely.

How about we spend our skill point to upgrade icy wind? Right now our team seem more competent than us and icy wind seems like a good support move that can slow down foes.

Also, ice in general is a pretty good offensive type against grass pokemons which we are weak to.

Time for mixed gym training comes again, a day that you've slowly grown to dread.
Most of what's practiced are basic drilling, running, weapons practice, and of course what you loathe the most:
Close quarters and Technique Sparring.
With your gym's specialization into aquatic and amphibious combat these training grounds bereft of ample water sources make things rather difficult for you.
Marine and Aqua though? It seems they've begun to find their own niche.

Marine's worked up her stamina for the runs, and tangles relentlessly with the Pewter and Fuschia recruits. Two quarters renowned, more to the latter, for their close quarters combat. Honestly, it's made you a bit jealous, but you're also happy for your friend with the seldom events that she wins her sprawls.

Aqua's taken to the more conventional route, Increasing his stamina, improving his cross-squad combat technique, and even taking part in some of the espers exercises much to your surprise. It seems that his one implant has at least begun to awaken some potential.
Though it's apparent that its far from their satisfaction as he tends to come back to the Cerulean Gym with a foul mood at their pestering and his inability. At the very least you find some solace in that one of your friends is facing the same walls.

This day though? This day is unusual. You notice that Bruise has finally made it to lineup with the rest of the pewters. You'd been curious of where he'd gone...

Sergeant Azure stands at the front," Today recruits. We will be going about our usual routines. Ten laps around the yard, proceed into calisthenics guided by your leaders. You will then fall in and line up for time trial at the obstacle course. Then you will all proceed into regulated sparring, we'll be starting with ability oriented today. Begin at the whistle!" The sergeant salutes, and in the distance a whistle is blown, signaling the start of yet another grueling day away from the waters of your gym.
>>
You put your feet to the dirt and start running at a steady jog. Other recruits tend to fall in with their friends during this time.

This was for stat value. Crits are 20 Crit fails are 1.
Crit fails supercede other values. just as crits do. When a crit and a fail are rolled within the counting range the first one takes priority while the latter may alter the outcome.

You resolve to stick with your gym-mates. Aqua and Marine have already started running with Risa, Misa, and Oliver. Bryan being the only one still in line.
You jog up to the guy and grab him by the hand, giving him a tug,"Hey Bryan, come on, we're starting." You urge him.
His gaze slowly transfixes upon you and he smiles," Oh, right. Thanks Ceru."

He follows your lead, taking a paced and measured start. "Don't let me keep you Ceru." He gives you a kind smile, and you nod, starting on ahead. He'll be fine, he always is. He actually doesn't notice just how tired he is until he's finished. At the very least he counts his own laps.

You catch up to Aqua and Marine whom both run with Risa and Misa dutifully, the two senior recruits leading them in the pacing, its a long run after all.
"One and two, One and two. Keep up you guppies! We're not gonna fall behind to these land lubbers!" Calls the one with the horn upon her head. That's Lisa.
"Sis.. You don't need to be like that ya know?" Puffs the other sister, Misa, who looks back upon you pitifully,"We've got one that needs to catch up, and Bryan's being to start slow as usual."
"You know we can't cut them a break! Aqua, Marine! Double-time, pick it up!" Lisa commands as she picks up as well.

"Lisa, you're not in charge here. Slow down before you kill your pace, this isn't a race." Oliver comes in on the argument, his eerie voice and translucent skin giving him a presence as moisture already beads upon his brow.
"This is about endurance and you're being an idiot trying to show off. Someone here that you like or something?"

"Shut up!" Lisa swings at Oliver, only for him to turn his cheek and let the blow glide off his skin.

A whistle is blown, and Lisa instantly goes meek," Save it for the sparring dirts Ceruleans!" Your leader calls.

Other running cadets snicker as they run past, the four pewters to be specific.
You pant out a short," Hi Bruise." And wave at the pewters as they pass, he's the only one not laughing, In fact, he's leading their run.

He only spares you a glance, though you think you see him smile a bit at you. He did, right?

Your group slows down to a steady jog after that little facsimile of a scuffle, and Bryan soon catches up to the group at around the fourth lap, oblivious to the mood that was set,"You know, I kinda like doing the run." he smiles.

You're already winded, pushing it for breath, and not even halfway done. At this rate you'll be walking this damn track, again.

Between gasps for air, you actually manage to convince yourself to agree through the building heat within your own body, and the sweat spilling from your brow and soaking through your training shirt.
"Yeah, this is... This is fun... I'm having fun too.."

Aqua looks over at you, only slightly less winded than you are," Seriously Cerulean? You serious? I'm about to pass out and you look worse than I do!"
You loll your tongue out of your mouth a bit, letting some of the heat escape," It is. It's fun. I just.. Wish it were... a bit.. cooler?" You nod to yourself," Yeah, yeah. Cooler."

Marine chuckles, the least perturbed out of you three as the seniors aren't a fair comparison," Ceru, didn't you.. Uhh.. Have the ability to cool things down? That'd be cool! Really cool. If you did that."

The thought dawns upon you, and you just about slap your forehead if your horn wasn't there. You feel like an idiot for forgetting as you keep on putting one foot in front of the other.

Focusing upon your horn, you feel for that familiar chilling power that dwells within. In the next moments, you slowly unleash it to chill the air, giving you no mere marginal degree of relief. Though you see your gym-mates start to speed up to keep the cold at their back.
"By Arceus, Ceru, that's frosty!" Marine calls back laughing, her little red tail visibly shivering.

"There's a good motivator if there ever was one!" *Risa(mistyped as Lisa earlier) laughs. with her fins pulling into her body. "Everyone keep away from Cerulean, the one that's icy!"

The rest of your squad bears on ahead, leaving you at the rear of a small arc with the rest of them at your front maintaining pace and distance. While they're staying out of the epicenter of your chilling power, you instantly begin to feel more at ease. Your sweat stops, and your vigor increases.
You gain the confidence to keep up the rest of the run.

You notice that the Bandaged Celadon girl wasn't with the rest of the flowers.
The Fuschias and Veridians were about tied for the best times, with the pewters not far behind.
Your gym came in before the Celadons who arrived in dead last. Beats being them, right?

_________________________________

The rest of the laps had been made a bit fun by other units shivering as they ran past. You made it the rest of the way without incident, though Leader Misty did pull you away to ask about what was going on over there. At first, you thought you might be in trouble, though she commended you instead for thinking of a way to make the whole ordeal easier on you. She also congratulated you for making the entire run without stopping, giving you a bit of pride in yourself.

With your body rejuvenated by your own barrier of cold, you don't feel nearly as tired as you usually do after the run. It's a good thing.

There's a break period , and you're free to intermingle.
The Pewters for the most part seem winded save for Bruise and another child with spiked stones upon his body.
Bruise stands there strong, arms crossed and breathing slowly as if he'd only done a few jumping jacks. The veins upon his neck protrude with a certain might to them.
The other boy in his condition stands at attention with sharp rocks protruding from his arms and a few spines from his back while still holding a certain slim look. While bruise led the run, this one seems to be the de-facto leader of the other pewters.

To the Celadons, they all bear some sort of plant biology stemming from their bodies. A couple have a blue-tint to their skin as the sick girl had. likely they bear the same parts.
One of them has a strange head of hair that seems almost thick and ropy. You've seen her fight before, those strange vines extend and move as though they have a mind of their own. They've left horrid welts on some of the other Recruits.
Another has yellow-ish skin with slightly puffy lips. Always sipping and slurping. This one's never been in the ability spars...

You look to your gym as their setting up, and seeing the Celadons has your heart turning over again with what you'd seen just after your surgery. That poor celadon girl..

You turn to Marine and Aqua as the two sit down, letting themselves recover a bit," Hey you two, I'm gonna go see the Celadons, I'll catch you guys later."
Aqua raises an blue eyebrow," What? You're gonna see the flowers?"
Marine kind of smiles and gives you a short wave," Alright Ceru, I might be over there in a sec." Her eyes shift to the side a bit,"I get the feeling that we're going to get yelled at by Risa soon.."

exactly. if we are shit in one situation and we come across that situation we become a serious liability. better to be able to deal with more possibilities.

plus we already have many ice abilities that will probably grow quite a bit. it seems like a waste to use our second type on something we already have.

it would be like someone with a psyduck graft taking esper as its second type even though it has esper abilities already. a waste of the second type because the gain isn't as much as it would be with other types.
>>
>>27942675
that is really only aplicable up to a certain point. as i seriously doubt a charizard can spew flames at 20,000 degrees/ that is more than three times as hot as the surface of the sun and would atomize everything with a several mile radius.

We don't have to be number fucking one though.

Minmaxing is not necessary.

Think of it as operating as a unit. As it stands, we only have a couple obvious weaknesses, and allies who can cover for us.
>>
>>27942744
i know i was hear when he said that. but it is beyond impractical for a charizard to be able to COMPLETELY ATOMIZE everything that is within 50 miles of it.

or for a machop to be able to punch at the speed of light. that would literally destroy the planet.

same goes for ditto being able to withdraw into its hole at the speed of light.

there are many many other things like this. i believe it was stated best in a recent tyranid vs pokemon thread. take everything in the pokedex as it stands, written by a bunch of tenyearolds
>>
>>27942768
Especially the ones with the Indian elephants.
>>27942782
Its not really min maxing. there are lots of water Pokemon out there with second elements other than ice, it wouldn't be like we were doing something odd.
>>
>>27942814
I put it down to anime physics and stop caring. I mean we are playing a quest where they stick monster parts on ten year olds, who cares about reality?

>>27942782
if we take ice we will be good agianst nothing.

right now we are good agianst fire and rock, weak to grass. if we take ice we will lose our resistance to fire.

the only thing that ice resists against is ice. ice is the glass cannon type.
>>
>>27942851
i did that with the show, but i can't do that if i am actually participating in the quest. it influences my decisions. like there is no way our puny little water shot will do anything against a fucking onix made of solid stone

>>
>>27942749
And if we do what you're saying we're wasting Seel.

Obtaining good PokeParts is difficult and installing them without anything going wrong is also troublesome. We want to make full use of each one we implant. Getting some good Water ones, Seel/Dugong and Shellder/Cloyster is pretty strong and well within the realm of reason.

>>27942826
Not as many as you seem to think, and not all that many anywhere in our area. There are a fair number of Water/Ground, but all of them are in different regions and will be hard to find.

>>27942853
And we'll have offensive advantage against Fire, Ground, Rock, Dragon, Flying, and Grass, our Ice Moves will not be as powerful if we don't take the Ice type to go along with Water.

Also, defensively we'll still be fine. Assuming we manage to get a Shellder, which is in the region we live in, we'll be defended by Thick Fat and Shellder/Cloyster's shell which is harder than diamond and pretty much can't be opened unless we want it to be opened.
>>
>>27942901
you do not know how things will react. ice is naturaly very very weak to fire. it may be that we just become normal to fire instead of resistant to it

The others begin to look at each other, the yellow girl the first to speak," Oh, you're talking about Chartreuse? She's not out today due to recovery."
A boy with bluish skin nods," Yeah, she'll be back out once she's out of recovery. She decided to try again, no problems this time."

The Girl with the tangled mess of vines for hair nods in agreement, a certain gloomy way about her," Yeah, she's really determined, we're actually really proud of her. Name's Angie by the way." She looks at the girl with yellow skin," This is Amanda, and the Oddish girl is Bridgette, and the boy's name is Leif."
This time, Angie steps forward and offers you her hand, with a slight bit of hesitation, you look her back in the eyes and take it, slowly shaking her hand," N-nice to meet you all."

The girl smiles, seeming to giggle at a joke that no one's told," So, Cerulean, will you be training with us for the next round?"

We normally would lose our resistance to fire, but the Thick Fat ability possessed by Seels and Dewgongs means that we still take half damage from Fire type attacks, regardless of a lack of resistance in other areas.

And takes half damage from fire, even if we go Ice we'll still have good resistance towards that due to Thick Fat, which might get even better when we evolve Seel to Dugong. And we can still do serious damage to any Fire Monsters with Water attacks.

We're going to be part of a team, we can aim for being really good at murdering things and rely on our comrades to do what we can't.

Technically the only stronger Ice move becoming a Dewgong would get us is the strongest Ice Move of all, Sheer Cold, capable of killing any opponent it hits, which it hardly ever does, due to being so inaccurate.

On the plus side, we'd also get the natural ability to learn Signal Beam, which is Super-Effective against those pesky Psychics.

And Water means we take less damage from Fire.

Even if we take Ice we aren't going to be weak to Fire, and we can still probably wipe the floor with a lot of Fire types due to hitting them with Water attacks.

Sure we're a bit more glass cannony if we take Ice, but we'll pack a lot more of a punch than if we try to take a different one. There aren't all that many Water/X types other than Ice available to us in this region, especially if we don't want to go stepping on other people's toes and having the same abilities they do which is kind of silly when we're making squads/teams.

"Ah, yes. Ah.. I'd like that a lot." You consider something for a moment, feeling thoughtful.
"Mind if a friend joins us?"
Angie is taken aback a moment, yet a strange interest gleams within her eyes beneath the shade of her long, tied back vines,"Oh?

You look back to the other Ceruleans, and you see Risa berating Aqua and Marine for something, from what you can hear, it's likely for sitting down after the run. You give a point as Marine hops up and runs away, over in your direction.
"That one," You point with a knowing smile, and you break into a chuckle as you see Aqua take her lead.

The two slow down their jog as they come within proximity," Hey guys!" Marine cheers," So, how's it going?"
"What was that about?" Bridgette raises an eyebrow, followed by a quick sip of her own saliva, cringing Marine.
"Ah, that.. that.." She stares.
Aqua pats Marine's face with the back of his hand," That was one of our senior recruits yelling at us for sitting. We're tired, might be nice to cramp up a bit."

The oddish boy, Leif circles around and puts an arm over Aqua's shoulder," Nah, you don't really mean that. We've had to administer ointments for bad cramps. Best just to not get one."
Aqua scratches his head," I know, I know. But we stretch enough..."

As the boys carry on, Amanda gives you an odd smile, or at least it might just seem a bit odd with her blue lips," Hey, you want help stretching? I could help you stretch. They should be blowing the whistle soon so you should get ready."

"Sure, I'd like that. Amanda, right?"
"Right!"

And thus restricting our future Monster parts to Raichu, Electabuzz, Seel, not Dugong, we can't evolve our Seel after that, and any pure Water types.

Stop obsessing over resistances, we're not meant to be a giant wall of beef that blocks attacks at the expense of everything else.

In all seriousness we're already on the road towards Water/Ice, and stopping that is a waste of perfectly good Seel parts, there are good options for Water/Ice in our region, we'll be able to deal solid damage towards most Monsters and operate extremely well in our chosen environment.

They're absurdly rare and strong.

Getting Dragon parts is not something we can even think of planning for. It's not a practical idea by any stretch of the imagination.

And by the time we have any likelihood of running into a Dragon and not getting turned into chunky salsa we'll almost certainly have two types by then.

If we though some stroke of absurd luck run into Dratini and either capture it alive or get the parts in good condition by freezing it our best move will be to take it back home and have them implant it into someone else.

We should get as many water parts as we can handle without going nuts, Why do you think we would just stick with seal bits?
>>
Before you lies the obstacle course, waiting in line with the others to challenge it, you begin to think about your past experiences with this menace.

You've tripped and gotten stuck in the field of holes as you attempted to hop-scotch between them.
You've gotten caught in the ropes, tangled so badly one time they actually had to cut you out.
The water part though? It's actually refreshing, though it's right before a rock-wall climb. One that you've actually fallen from before, only to have Leader Sabrina catch you, and make you do the wall over.

No. Today is the day that you're going to get a good time. The day that you show everyone else that Cerulean can do this and not be a clumsy bundle of white fur!

You watch the saffrons go, several of them leap and bound with an almost unearthly grace. None of their rangers touched by modification save for Goldenroid, or "Grumpy" as you would call him. He's the last to go, and from the start, he teleports to the first obstacle.
A whistle gets blown," Foul, Goldenrod! Back to start!" Sergeant Azure calls out, waving his hand for the recruit to get back to the beginning.
Goldenrod lowers his gaze, yet shouts back," Why do I have to run this stupid course?! I can teleport you know! It's just-"

The shrill scream of the whistle cuts off the kid's defiance," I said back to start! You run this just like everyone else! We're not here to watch you teleport, save it for your gym.
"But-" He begins to protest, though he stops suddenly, his voice caught within his chest as Leader Sabrina appears next to Sergeant Azure.
Her gaze falls upon him with a sheer kind of oppressiveness that seems to spill forth as though a wave. Her lips curl, parting with almost a sneer," Do it again recruit." Her tone harsh and flat.

Grumpy's head lowers, as he shivers in his position," Y-yes mo- I mean, ma'am. Yes ma'am." He walks to the start, and proceeds normally.
>>
>>27944350
Because everyone thinks that you're referring to this quest. People have been using "Gen1" as an excuse, and they think you're doing the same thing - trying to drop misinformation.

see>>27943652
>>
Seems grumpy has his own problems. You've never paid much attention to his runs before, though iy seems that his run is actually worse than yours.. You feel kind of bad for him, really.

Your turn comes up, and you whip up another little zone of cold to increase your vigor. With that refreshing air flowing around you, and your run damn near flawless from what it usually is, you you cheering from those in waiting.
From the Celadons and Ceruleans.
"Go Ceru! You can do it!"
You smile to yourself, yes. Yes. You can do it. You take after your mother after all. You can do this!

You drive through, keeping the cold air around you, and driving it colder and colder until you can see the rapid formation of frost as you run through the thigh-high trench.

The Rock wall's not even a problem this time, despite the thin sheet frost forming over your body. Your cold touch doesn't melt the ice layered inbetween and the slight compact gives you a firm grip. Yes!

You clear the rest of the obstacles, including the low net crawl in what would be a record time for you. Leader Misty waiting at your finish to congratulate you on the mark improvement.

Marine comes in, just beating your time, though you hug and congratulate her regardless. Aqua comes in, possibly standing to shave off a couple dozen seconds to get your time, though he seems happy regardless and cheers for you and Aqua's time.

Then it happens.

We're supposed to be a team player. Covering each other's weaknesses and working together.

There's a pretty large variety of types among the other student rangers, but aside from us I don't think any of them have Ice, some may be able to use some Ice attacks, but they aren't actual Ice types. Someone who between Ice and Water can do major damage to a lot of Monsters as well as freeze them for transport back to base in a preserved condition will be extremely helpful for the rangers as a whole.

Bruise steps forward , cracking his knuckles and flexing his absurdly muscular body.
"You ready?" Azure seems to ask, with a modicum of courtesy.
"Just a moment." Bruise tightens the bandages upon his fists, and then slides up his training pants.
He removes two strings of weights, tossing them to the ground, they fall firmly into the dirt.

The boy takes position upon his fists and in a forward leaning stance, some chuckles behind him at his bit of a performance,"On your mark, Sir!"

The whistle is blown, and Bruise takes off like an Arcues-damed zubat out of hell, skipping through the holes without dropping a beat, as though he had wings upon his feet. One might even mistake him for one of the espers.

He clears the staggered tree obstacles, plowing through some of them with the pure force that is his body, and when he makes it to the waist high water, you'd swear that he were about to generate a tidal wave with how he plows through without resistance, the water crashing into the other side as he grips the rock wall with brute force to contradict the slipperiness of being wet.

He clears the course in record time, with Leader Brock standing at the other end, the man with his rugged and rocky body congratulating him on a job well done, the man who's eyes never open.

He completely blew away any hope for anyone else getting such a time, everyone except the Veridians, Saffrons, and Fuschias clamor about him, congratulating him on the job well done.

Yet, even among the cheering and congrats, Bruise seems to have his eye upon Leader Sabrina, whom pretends not to notice him as she speaks to the other Saffrons about something.

Is it just you or does it seem that they have some kind of superiority complex?

Rolled 1, 3 = 4

With cobditioning over, you all proceed to 1v1 sparring. Less important for missions as some speak, though important to learn exactly what one is capable of alone.

The pairings are random, save for when there are students that are capable of mutilating another student, such as Bridgette. She explained that her primary method of attack is to use acid. Not something suitable for this.

As a cerulean, your field is a notable circle with opposite lines drawn and a pool of water in the middle. Possible murky with dirt kicked into it, yet they often manage to start it clear.

Your pairing is...

1 Vs: Saffron
2 Vs. Veridian
3 Vs. Celadon
4 Vs. Fuschia
5 Vs Pewter

Maybe, maybe not. They don't have any strengths against us, we don't have any strengths against them, but it's our battlefield.

We start by heading into the water to take advantage of Amphibious Combat, because it seems pretty unlikely that they'll come into the water. We get some serious Icy Wind going in order to slow them down and speed us up, hit them with Water Gun if we feel like it, and then Horn Attack them.

I figured that first we'd use water gun to wet the field, then icy wind to freeze it over.

We should instinctively know how to fight in slippery areas, the esper not so much.
>>
>>27944970
There's sand in the area, right? We could mimic Oliver's strategy from last time and attempt to blind them.

Not that, that would work on a psychic who's relying entirely on his powers to see, but if we're facing off against a trainee (and an unaugmented one at that), it might still hinder him.
>>
>>27944996
That's also good, especially if we hit the Esper with the Water Gun as well and then Icy Wind them to freeze the fuck out of them and the ground at the same time.

Maybe start with Icy Wind to slow them down a bit though if they're really mobile and we need to slow them down to hit them first.

Rolled 7 + 4

As you wait upon your quaint field, a girl appears upon the other side of the are unexpectedly.
Leader Sabrina, and Leader Misty stand upon either side to ref your match.

You swallow, feeling a lump form deep in your throat. This means you get to fight an Esper. No, this means that you're going to get BEAT by an esper. You grimace, as the orange-haired girl before you simply smiles.
"My name is Alexis, an unmodified Apprentice Ranger of Saffron."
You nod, staring at the pool of water that rests between the two of you now , the rest of the field bears a sparse few rocks, no larger than hand-sized. Likely they're for pewters and Saffrons to use. The field is exposed except for the pool of water 10 meters in diameter as opposed to the 50 meter diameter of the field. Round, a circle. No corners to hide in.

Misty calls out to the two of you, giving the grounds of the spar.
"This spar will end upon 3 full strikes to the opponent! Blocked strikes will not count. No strikes to the eyes, nose, or other vitals of your opponent. We are all comrades here. We are here to make each other stronger. If one of you yields, the other is to cease. If you are knocked out of the ring, you will be reset at the previous score counting for the hit received. If you understand, you are free to begin!" Your Leader brings down a flag, as Leader Sabrina's eyes flick, locking on you for a moment, before turning to Alexis," You are to abide by the stated grounds of the spar. Respect your opponent, and give pride to the Saffron. Begin."

You and Alexis Mirror each other with a "Yes Ma'am!"

Alright.

Anyway, as a psychic, Alexis may not be hindered all that much if she can't move, so focusing on physically inhibiting her by freezing the ground may not work all that well. That's a good tactic, however, I think we may need to change its target.

How about we use Water Gun on her, then freeze her body? Get her shivering and break her concentration.

You can direct and focus it, yes. Though it still can't freeze anything solid. It's just a very biting wind.
>>
>>27945335
So the ground freezing plan is a no go, but we can still use Water Gun and Icy Wind on her to mess her up.
>>
>>27945315
A lot of the Saffrons dealt with the obstacle course by jumping around using psychic stuff to add to their physical prowess, slowing her down is still a good idea.

>>27945325
We're heavier if we're wet, harder to lift up, and we can swim downwards to help counteract the lifting instead of it just lifting us and there being nothing we can do.

It's not like us not being in the pool would stop her from lifting us.

It's a 10 meter diameter pool and deep enough to dive, a good bit of room for us to move around in and avoid being targeted.

Also, you're assuming that she's a powerful enough telekinetic to throw us around.

You dash forward, aiming nearly headfirst at the pool of water at the center, your eyes holding your opponent just within your vision, you see a few rocks levitate around her as she begins, seeing what you're up to.

"Silly, and predictable," she quips as she launches one of the stones at you, heading right for your stomach. You instinctively unleash the power of your water gun, hitting home upon the midair stone, and sending water cascading everywhere as it grinds to a halt, sending the spray all over the field as you trudge on, undeterred as you bear down upon the pool still, concentrating upon the power of ice as you rapidly drop your own ambient temperature to whip up an especially chilly air.

Yet right before you unleash your power, a stone digs into your side, driving in deep and forcing you off course from the pool.

"1st Strike Saffron!" You hear called out from your own leader, as you feel pain branch out from your chest. That may have actually broken a rib.. or bruised them? Yes, they can't be broken, not that easily.

The Esper picks up a few more rocks, the slight echoes of her power radiating out from her mind and her subtle gestures.
"Well, is that all, Cerulean? I will allow you to yield if you wish. Or continue once you stand up again. We saffrons would be shamed to strike a downed comrade." Her voice is laced with the beginnings of condescension as she looks down upon you. Yet at the very least, she's offering you a moment of respite.

>Initiative granted.

You're not too far from the pool, and she's taken to standing upon one of the larger rocks, almost as though to get a step up upon you.
The field's been covered in a light mist of water from your water gun, and residual icy wind.

Feint a dash towards the pool, let her think we're going towards there. Once she buys the feint shift directions to charging towards her for either a tackle or close range Water Gun.

There's mist in the air and we hit a large area with water due to stopping the rock with our Water Gun, which means she ought to be at least a bit wet.

As we're doing this whip up an Icy Wind and aim it in front of us and towards her so we'll be running into a freezing area thus speeding us up and making it easier to dodge. If we can shoot the water gun at the same time try to hit her with a water gun, aim for where she's standing, if she jumps aim for her center of mass.

There's wisdom in that.

The sooner we come to terms with failure and despair, the better.
>>
You slowly get up, feeling the dirt move beneath your fingers, obviously wet with your chilling water. You smile at that, an idea crossing into your mind. Oliver had taught you to fight with your environment, and misty had reinforced that.

Standing again, Alexis looks upon you, her eyes seeming to radiate her unnatural power," Well then, ready to begin again?"

With resolve in your heart once again, you grit your teeth through the aching pain of your ribs and give a swift nod, starting up with a dash for the pool in the center.
It is instantly that you see rocks fly out in that path just as you change direction, charging at her full speed with a growing blanket of chilling air whipped up around you as you open up your mouth once more to unleash the pressure of your water gun, the force actually knocking the esper off her stone, sending her sprawling backwards, only to be caught by a force and flip back into standing as she throws up more stones at your charge.
Someone in the distance you hear," One Point, Cerulean!" As you drive your cold body through the misty air and into the Esper with a full tackle.

You feel yourself hit a barrier as she holds her hands up, her face contorted into a scowl,"A tackle? How artless." She hisses out under her breath.
You feel a smile pull upon the corners of your mouth as you push against the barrier before the Esper, conjuring your cold air forward to force a shiver out of the girl. You can see her breath as the barrier grows shaky, you feel you're about to push through when she unleashes out a blast of force to send you back as you cross your arms to shield yourself from the blow.

No call? That's good.

The girl is wet and freezing from your assault, and indeed she is mad, perhaps even livid.

You're both at 1 point. 2 left for either. Or a forfeit.

You're at about a 5 meter distance after the girl's blowback. Good range for watergun, though you've only got 3 shots left.

Also, we're in a nice cold area, this is really good for us, we're faster, she's slower and miserable.

With little ground to cover and a good hit on your side, you barrel in, feeling envigorated by the cold air as you plow through it, going at Alexis head on as you can almost hear her teeth chattering, her cold and frosty breath upon the air.

You see the mist part as the stones are launched at you haphazardly with the power of her wavering mind backing them. With a dart to the left, you drop into a muddy slide as her rocks find nothing but empty air and muddy dirt.

Witnessing a break in her shield you blast her with another shot of your water gun(2 left) within close proximity, sending her backward again as she barely manages to block the chilling force of the spray as you whip up another icy buffet of wind to wash over her form.
"Point, Cerulean!" You hear called, followed by the frustrated yell of your opponent as she tries to shake off the wonderfully cold water you've soaked her in.

You dig your hands into the ground to stop your slide and push off with your legs into another full body tackle as the girl drops her shield again at the end of the spray to launch more stones at you.
One weakly takes you in the same bruised side, forcing you to cringe a bit, as another glances over your thigh.

You hear something from the yard, yet everything seems to blur as you finally make a full tackle upon your opponent with her body open. Suddenly you feel a strange disorientation as your perspective changes suddenly.
Sprawled out over your opponent, you notice that you've been ported a few feet from the pool.

"Did... did I win?" You mumble out loud, looking to Leader Sabrina and Leader Misty through the haze that's settled upon the field.

"I'm telling you that those rocks were glancing blows! It didn't stop her, and she made the last strike!" Misty yells, her voiced raised as she stares at Sabrina, not backing down.

"Get off of me!" You're pushed off of the esper, Alexis, the two of you laying among the dirt to await the final decision. That is, until Alexis stands.
>>
>>27946646
To extend our reach to the star's above!
>>
"I'm telling you that those strikes count." Leader Sabrina states with her usual coldness," Had Alexis been using full power, she'd be breaking bones. We have to count them for the spar."

"And Cerulean didn't use her horn on Alexis, it's the same deal." Misty retorts, even going so far as to wag a finger at Sabrina's unblinking face.

"No, it is not, Clearly Saffron won here due to better last minute improvisation." A dry and flat statement.

"That is also not true Leader Sabrina, Cerulean made excellent use of her power and environment to create an opening."

"You try my patience, Misty." Leader Sabrina nearly hisses out that word.

Alexis seems to be rolling her eyes, getting tired of this mess. Looking to you, she actually kind of smirks,"Not bad, you're Cerulean, right?" You nod meekly, a giddy smile over your face," If you stop being so smug, I might just say that you're the winner and leave it at that. Not often one of us Espers actually gets taken down. You might just be a good training partner yet."

>[] "You weren't bad yourself.. Honestly, I was scared to try..."

"Geeze, you're really a scaredy-meowth aren't you? What's up with that? I get beat by such a loser.." She rolls her eyes at you, frowning if only to hide her own lips curling into a smile from your infectious cuteness.
She throws a hand out to help you up, that you promptly take, only to feel how freezing she is through your flesh as she pulls you up.

You feel a tingle of amusement on the inside as you realize that she's trying her hardest not to shiver.

You shake off the cold water, squeezing your eyes closed in the effort," Hey what are yo-"

Her words are lost as you throw you arms around the cold esper's shivering body. "I've gotta warm you up. It's my fault you're so cold after all."

"What, no, get! Get..." She seems to calm down suddenly," You're kinda warm..."

"I know!"

The arguing adults cease, as their stares fall onto the two of you. Maybe they decided to stop caring? Either way, you're happy that everyone's calmed down.

"It was a fun fight, and you seem like a nice person. Wanna be friends?"

You don't receive an answer, instead you notice that Alexis hangs limply in your arms. Upon further inspection, she's also drooling a little bit and breathing pleasantly.
With a slight panic as you hold her weight up, you look around seeking help from the other recruits watching,"Hey, um. Hey. Help! I don't know what to do, she just fell asleep! Um, What do I do? Anyone? Please..."
_____________________________________
>>
Other recruits talked about that little event for days, it was certainly one of the highlights of your first three months of ranger training.

You made more than a few friends that day, and while some of the recruits between the quarters still remained somewhat seperated, you broke down a few of the barriers, and more followed with others intermingling. Even Alexis began to run with you and the other Ceruleans some days. Other days, uit'd be Bruise, never both at once though.

You were right about Alexis being a nice girl, from the day that she fell asleep in your arms, she claimed that you just kind of reminded her of something, and that did the trick right there along with the warmth and the cold.
Bryan's seemed a bit perplexed when he comes back from his supplementary esper training, claiming that hey haven't been laughing as much because of rotten girl that makes them stop. But he figures that it works out, giving him more time to practice.

Aqua and Marine were amazed that you actually pulled out a victory over an esper, as were the others and especially Leader Misty, whom congratulated you again.

Is there an actual technique for that? Are there any mechanical differences between that and our impromptu move?

Also, it seems like creating mist would make it slightly easier for us to see in-coming projectiles (obviously, the farther, the better). Is there any chance that, that may give a bonus of sorts, when it comes to dodging? Or when a plan incorporates dodging?

Right now, I think getting a variety of techniques is best. The more versatility we have in what we're able to do, the better. Having straight up more powerful abilities is great, though, since that sort of path can open up other opportunities as well.
>>
>>27947145
Wrong.

Seel evolves at 34.
Seel learns Ice Beam at 47 if you stop it from evolving.
Dewgong learns Ice Beam at 55 if you let it evolve before you learn Ice Beam as Seel.
Dewgong learns Sheer Cold at 34.

All pokemon learn moves sooner if you stop them from evolving. It's like a condolence prize for staying weaker longer.

>/tg/ is bad at pokemon.
>>
>>27947179
I kinda hope we never learn Sheer Cold, because we probably wont figure it out, and we'll be sparring or something and accidentally murder another trainee.
>>
>>27947111
It already gave a minor bonus for the flighty tactics within the spar.

The actual technique would actually use very little to no water as it's originally ice, or cold based.

>>27947138

Skills require a time skip to properly learn them as they are a testament to your overall experience.

Techniques can be learned/created on the fly with prior/proper knowledge.

Also: You are not necessarily limited to Seel's moveset. You are also human and can ccreate your own variable attacks with what you possess.
For instance, a pulse-fire water gun variant would be an interesting thing to train for quick fire upon multiple targets. Or increasing the size of your pressure bladder to allow increased water storage and increased water pressure. Whipping an Icy wind into a small ice tornado. Or a.. Twister even.

/tg/ The more creative you get at using what's available, the more I'll let you use it. It's going to be necessary after all.

Beedrill attack in swarms.

guys we can learn hyper beam can't we?
>>
>>27947217
Do it like the ice-shota from Bleach and freeze layers of air between ice sheets so that it blocks out fire/explosions/whatever better.
>>
>>27947150
I don't want to spread ourself too thin though. Versatility is good, but you have to be careful with it.

Having a pile of weak abilities means that we're unable to do anything big and someone/something with a bit of specialization will stomp over us. Like Bubblebeam, sure it looks nice, but it isn't really that much better than Water Gun, and its flinching/speed reduce effect isn't all that likely and is done much better by Icy Wind. It's redundant and inefficient. We can use Water Gun and Icy Wind to cover what it does, and with some creativity do even more cool weird things with it.

>>27947217
Okay, with this in mind. Spend 2 points on Icy Wind to get it to 3, we have friends who can do Water stuff if we really need powerful Water attacks, but they can't cover the Ice stuff as well as we can. It also slows our enemies, makes us faster, and is overall extremely useful for battlefield control and manipulation.

I'd save the other point until we get another point to raise Water Gun or Horn Tackle.

>>27947270
Eventually, maybe.
>>
>>27947234
>>27947253
What about Icicle Darts? We could put some of them in our mouth and use the pressure of our Water Gun to launch them.

Also. It's funny how no one is bothered with getting hit by our spittle. It's good that we don't drool and keep it all in our water bladder.
>>
>>27947260

I prefer Dazzling Gleam. Though we're not at fairies yet. You'd better chase them if you ever catch wind.

>>27947270
Sheer cold's accuracy is negligible when you get a target snared/slowed down with icy wind/ held by an esper.
It could be absolutely broken in team play.
The attack strikes with Absolute Zero temperature.

Though you need to become dewgong to learn it.
>>
>>27947285
>I don't want to spread ourself too thin though. Versatility is good, but you have to be careful with it.
I was talking about early on. Like, right now. It'd be good to establish what moves we'll be using early on and improving upon them.

And be creative with their use!

>>27947301
Since Sheer Cold freezes the target, would it be useful in preserving pokemon parts? We could specialize in capturing.....
>>
>>27947301
Screencapped for the campaign to GET FROSTY
>>
>>27946938
Wait, wouldn't our wet swimsuit/uniform or whatever negate our fluffy fur?

>>
>>27947285
I mean cool weird things with them, referring to Icy Wind and Water Gun.

Freezing water and then shooting icicle spikes, shooting water followed by a extremely cold wind soaking people and instantly freezing a coat of water around them to imprison them. Learning to passively have Icy Wind active on us and shooting a pathway for us using Water Gun and freezing the water midair to create a ramp or a path across a gap.

Lots of possibilities. Let other people mess with bubbles. Instead of trying to be versatile by having more abilities than we need, be versatile by applying our abilities in interesting ways.

>>27947301
How well preserved are things killed by getting flash frozen? Is it pretty possible to thaw them out and stick their parts into people? Or at the very least dissect them for research afterwards?

If it's a result of using other, core techniques, it'll start higher than usual.

>>27947319
>Since Sheer Cold freezes the target, would it be useful in preserving pokemon parts?
So long as its a relatively dry thing. Water expands when its frozen, which could end up destroying a valuable part.

If you focused it down just to the thing's brain however, you could keep it cold enough to bring back a fresh body.

>>27947352
Honestly, if you wanted to ditch the seel parts after getting the green light, I'd let you all do it. I only gave seel as your starter from the high quality rolls for your water type origin. It's a pretty well rounded thing, and people are right that ice types are strong offensively.

Season Two When?
>>
>>27947368
I don't know?

Last thread it was mentioned that we felt our Squirtle teammate's rough/hard shell when she hugged us, and I'd figure in her case would clothes even really be necessary with a carapace?
>>
>>27947384
>If you focused it down just to the thing's brain however, you could keep it cold enough to bring back a fresh body.
That just makes it sound like espers are the ultimate hunters. Just slush the target's brain and good to go.
>>
>>27947408
>Last thread it was mentioned that we felt our Squirtle teammate's rough/hard shell when she hugged us, and I'd figure in her case would clothes even really be necessary with a carapace?
The clothes have equipment on them, I think, that help with swimming. They also help to carry equipment. Like the volt orbs.
>>
>>27947409
>That just makes it sound like espers are the ultimate hunters. Just slush the target's brain and good to go.
I think for a capture to be considered fresh, it'd have to be alive.
>>
>>27947377
Rest is more useful than bubblebeam. Healing up is useful, especially when you're out in the field and don't have good medical facilities available. Just plop us in some water and between Rest and Hydration we'll be right as rain pretty quickly.

1 level of Bubblebeam probably won't be as damaging as level 2 Water Gun, and it's nowhere near as good at slowing things down as Icy Wind is. With the points we would have to use to get it to level 2 to get it on par with Water Gun we could have gotten Water Gun to level 3. I can't really see Bubblebeam working as well with Icy Wind as Water Gun does. It just seems utterly redundant to get it.
>>
>>27947409

Destroys possible esper-like implants. Espers are a long-standing defender of Kanto City however. THe first superhuman rangers, as they are. Modified rangers came after.
>>27947421
It's not as bulky as a turtle shell, it's more like an armor forming over her flesh. She'd wear the core gear over that and clothing to give her some modesty.
>>
>>27947435
im just curious as to where bubblbeam could lead. lets not take it now, but lets make sure we do take a level or two in it some other time.
>>
>>27947437
So water and ice types. They can be frozen, right?
>>
>>27947435
I'll be updating the sheet tomorrow with new possible abilities. I'll likely be removing bubble beam due to attack redundancy.

Fair?
>>
>>27947449
Ice types are immune to freeze status. Water is not.
>>
>>27947449
probably only ice and ground, rock might shatter, everything else will either die or tissue damage. but some parts may be salvageable. might get a gland or two here and there
>>
>>27947452
Si
>>
>>27947454
But can they be imprisoned in ice in this quest?
>>
>>27947452
Eh, Bubblebeam still seems useful as a way of making opponents flinch and stuff.

It's irritating in a way Icy Wind and Water Gun aren't.
>>
>>27947452
fair enough but i don't like limiting ourselves. we could find a use for it down the line. best to leave it alone.

>>27947454
can still be encased in a block of ice, but doesnt matter cause there are no pure ice types
>>
>>27947449
Some of the Water ones, it's pretty likely, though it'd probably be harder due to Water being resistant to Ice. Ice, I'm not so sure about.

>>27947452
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>27947468
could work for scaring wild animals.

there are plenty of uses for it, especialy if we can increase its effects
>>
>>27947473
>can still be encased in a block of ice, but doesnt matter cause there are no pure ice types
Purity does not factor into type immunity. Ice types are totally immune to freeze
>>
>>27947483
That's in the game, but in this quest, we're relying on fringe logic. If ice can be formed around them, then they're stuck in it, right?
>>
>>27947482
Exactly.

Or if something seems to be charging up for an attack, that could help make them lose their concentration.
>>
>>27947483
fine, we wont need to freeze cloyster as they are ungraftable.

we probably wont fin a lapras

dewgong is the same as cloyster

articuno would require the full attention of fucking everyone

only thing left is jynx, and those are pretty rare.
>>
bubble beam still has its uses for example.
>frozen bubble reflection field

>forcing an air bubble into a targets blood stream through an open wound

>sting peoples eyes and limiting visibility
>>
>>27947521
>>forcing an air bubble into a targets blood stream through an open wound
If you can pull off that bullshit, you could probably just ram the horn through their eye with much more ease.

Or the wound is so gaping that they'll bleed out without the bubble air embolism nonsense.
>>
>>27947483
Only two ice things we would want to freeze are lapras and jynx
>>
>>27947521
We can also make mirrors and reflection/refraction stuff with freezing our Water Gun.

If we're in a situation where we can inject an air bubble into someone we could also freeze their blood or just stab them with our murderhorn and then Ice Beam, or something like that, them from the inside.

We can hit people's eyes with a lot of stuff, and reduce visibility in other ways, like with mist or freezing the water on their eyes through a sufficiently cold Icy Wind.
>>
>>27947521
i think you just broke your creative muscle.

i am sure there are good uses for bubble beam, especialy if we can make the explosions larger or make it so the bubbles dont dissipate and linger for awhile.

minefields

there are bound to be more
>>
>>27947542
Hynx is Ice/Psychic, though. We'd need to evolve into a Water/Ice type to get Sheer Cold, which would fill up our 2 type quota.
>>
>>27947536
We could make a projectile ice needle to inject the bubble.
>>
>>27947550
Minefields bro, Minefields.
>>
>>27947559
Or we could just use the projectile ice needle to pierce into their brain through their motherfucking eye socket
>>
>>27947556
we capture things for other people to. aren't you selfish?

>>27947567
need ice beam for that
>>
>>27947576
He was talking about what "we" would want.
>>
anybody want to start a list of normal flying or normal or flying/water or ice
>>
>>27947556
It wouldn't be for us. But I'm sure the boys back in the lab would love a Jynx to take apart for research or to put its parts into some 10 year old.

>>27947561
Nice, but that'd take a lot of investment in Bubblebeam to get, and if we want to render an area impassible we can just freeze the fuck out of it and possibly fill it with icy spikes.
>>
>>27947006
We are the most adorable thing ever
>>
>>27947559
>>27947567
In combat, the most efficient moves are preferable.

>>27947595
I wonder if we get paid well for fresh captures.
>>
>Realizing that Walrein is superior to Dewgong in almost every way.
Eventually, Hoenn.
>>
>>27947587
but "We" do want to capture a jynx since it would be a strong graft to place in a new teammate. it would help protect the city.

think IC
>>
>>27947567
Anywhere there is a vein is a much bigger target than the brain through an eye socket.

also Ice armour might be viable.
>>
Capturing a Jynx would be fucking crazy hard, since they mass-mindcontrol by dancing.
>>
>>27947595
cant be that much, i'm just saying to leave it as an option. you never know when you might have to float some bubble down an airshaft or you need a small force to flick a switch or knock something down. just leave it for when we may need it
>>
>>27947614
When we're talking OOC, we're talking OOC.
>>
>>27947623
>we interupt their moves
>live capture
simple
>>
>>27947637
Plus it's just one of the moves that Seel learns.

I really don't see much reason to bitch about it.
>>
>>27947596
And we'll only evolve to be even more adorable.

>>27947613
How can Spheal be so cute and Walrein be so not cute? It's just not right.

Though I wouldn't mind putting a Spheal in us if we ran across one. It'd probably be pretty compatible with us, and we could make our fur even plushier that way.
>>
>>27947652
Actually wait, no it isn't.

What the hell is it doing there?

You'd think that at minimum we'd need special training from Misty to learn Bubblebeam.
>>
>>27947654
Ice Body is a really good ability, too.

Regening in Hail makes Walrein tank as fuck.
>>
>>27947654
>I wouldn't mind putting a Spheal in us if we ran across one
Eh!?! But we aren't even -near- old enough to be thinking about that sort of that sort of thing!
>>
>>27947561
we could freeze bubbles and hide them beneath the ground as land mines.

we would probably need a way to make them more powerful to actually cause damage perhaps we could fill the bubbles with our icywind?
>>
>>27947674
Apparently we already have Ice Body as a Hidden Ability?

So I don't think we need Walrein to do that.
>>
>>27947670
Like since she's the one who gives out the Bubblebeam TM, it'd make sense that she would know how to teach it.

But just magically knowing it on our own?

We didn't receive a Poliwag, Horsea, or Startyu graft, what is this nonsense?
>>
>>27947670
the simple concept of having a water bladder opens up all water shooting moves that don't require more water than we can hold atm. but no one ever said anything about not being able to get more water bladders, they seem quite standard
>>
>>27947637
In the long run it'd be cheap to get it to 1 or 2, just 1 or 2 points, but to pull something like a serious minefield off we'd probably need it to be a fair bit higher. My guess at least 4 or 5 to do it well, but that's conjecture at the moment and could be inaccurate. But assuming a number like that it'd be 7 or 11 points getting it there.

Basically if it's at a low level it isn't going to accomplish all that much that we can't do just as well if not better with creative usages of other abilities, and if we raise it in line with our other stuff it's still kinda redundant and we could have used those points to get other stuff even higher and more dangerous.
>>
>>27947670
>Special training,
That's so. It was a TM in first gen, and you train at her gym.

>>27947654
>How can Spheal be so cute and Walrein be so not cute? It's just not right.
You'll notice that in your index, they haven't made direct connections to the ones that seem less plausible.

In the short term I would still much prefer more in Rest over 1 point in bubblebeam.

We're going to the Veridian Woods soon, being able to heal up faster after a fight and keep our stamina fresh by taking little naps every now and then seems extremely useful.

Also, Rest and Hydration are extremely good together, toss us in some water, let us take a nap, and we're likely to fix up whatever is ailing us.
