It is 7PM, on October 25, 2043.

In 15 minutes, you're supposed to met with the love of your life for a date.

Instead, your blood is spilling onto the asphalt, painting the ground with rivulets of red, while you lie battered and broken on the ground, rain coming down like bullets. Company goons are walking down the gray, damp alleyway, and sooner or later, one of them is going to find you in your miserable, drenched state, and put a bullet in your skull.

As you lay there, contemplating your fate, your commlink buzzes with an alarm, text popping up on screen.

"DATE WITH HER IN 15 MIN. YOU CAN DO IT!"

Clutching the commlink in your hand, you look down the alley. Any minute now, they're going to find you.

What would you like to do?
>call her, and cancel that date. Apologize. Then hold off these goons as long as you can.
>tell her you're going to be a little bit late, but you'll make it up somehow.
>muster up what strength you have, and book it into the streets. You're not going to be late.
>other option. ( If you have something else in mind, this is the option you choose, and state what.)

Slipping the commlink into your pocket, you take a deep breath, and slowly crawl to your feet. Your insides burn like a thousand flaming hornets are on a rampage inside, but you grit your teeth and bare it. Clutching your side, you stumble away to the streets. Behind you, you can hear the company goons firing at you, but you ignore them.

You've got a date to catch.

So why did you take this mission?

Memories flood back from a few days ago, when this all started.

“Ask her out, man. What have you got to lose?”

You were in a small diner, sipping at a mug of hot coffee, awaiting a man who has a mission for your team, and trying very hard not to stare at that waitress you have a crush on. At the time, your teammate, Adam, was slapping you on the back, and egging you on to somehow ask this girl out. You looked at the only female of the team, Twitch, but she shrugged, and looked out the window.

“Leave me out of this.”

You sighed inwardly, and turned back to Adam, saying:

>”I'll do it. But after we go through this mission briefing.
>”No. the less people who know we were here, the better.”
>”I'll do it. Hold my coffee.”

A man arrives at the table, very clean in his modern, stylish suit, a stark contrast to the rundown, faded diner. Sitting down at the table, he pulls a datachip out of his pocket, and places it in front of you.

“I need a small package delivered from Queens all the way to the heart of Manhattan. I am paying you for a delivery within 1 day of picking up the package. Half up front, Half when you deliver, no questions asked. Pickup location and destination is on this chip.”

His sudden, terse delivery leaves you no room for questions, and you get the feeling he wouldn't answer any, anyway. You look at your teammates, who both nod, and you place a napkin with numbers down at the table.

“That's our fee, and our account number below it. Acceptable?” You say to the man, who merely nods, his face showing nothing. He makes a few taps on his commlink, and leaves the table, without saying another word.

“Nice doing business with you too, asshole.” Adam mutters under his breath, but you ignore him, reaching for the chip. However, before you can grab it, Adam snatches it from the table.

“It's showtime, Face.”

here it goes.

Clutching your coffee, you compose yourself.

How are you going to do this?

>Cocky: “Are you single? Do you find me attractive? What's your excuse for not kissing me right now?”
>Funny: Trip in front of here, and say, “That's the fastest I've ever fallen for someone.”
>Straightforward: “Hey, I know we just met, but I was wondering, do you want to grab some coffee or something after this?”
>Other option.

>>

Let's not forget that we are an asshole.
>>
>>27951421
>>27951483
You walk over to her, a faint smile on her face, and ask her in her most casual voice,

> “Hey, I know we just met, but do you want to grab some coffee or something after this?”

The waitress gave you a smile, and you grinned, before you realized it was the sad, apologetic smile of someone who wishes to lessen the wound she is forced to make.

“I'm sorry, but I have a family.”

You felt your confidence deflate like a recently popped balloon, and you slink away to the table, clutching a coffee that you no longer have any interest in drinking.

“So how'd it go, champ?” Adam said, a big grin on his face.

“She has a family.” You muttered, staring despondently into the distance.

In retrospect, it was a good thing she said no. Otherwise, how would you have met her?
As you rush down the crowded street, clutching you stomach wound, you check your gun. Three shots left. Looking behind you, you can see seven men pushing their way through the crowd.

If you were Adam, you could do something crazy, and escape unscathed.

Hell, if you were Adam, you wouldn't even have to deal with this situation right now.

Unfortunately... you aren't.

How are you going to try and escape the men?

>hijack a vehicle, and speed away.
>take as many down as possible, and book it.
>Duck into a store, take down the first one to come in, and get a gun that has more than three bullets.
>Other Option.
>>
>>27951570
Use our surroundings to our advantage. The crowd should be panicking, right? Get lost in it!

With the crowd in chaos as the men force their way through, you slip away, hiding in an alley as people rush by. As soon as one of the men crosses your line of sight, you rush him, bashing his gun away with your arm, and firing the three rounds into his stomach. As he drops, you pick up his firearm, and duck into the crowd once more.

Six men left.

13 minutes left.

Funny how numbers coincide. You remember what you said as the three of you left the diner.

“6-13.” You said out loud.

'What?” Adam questioned, looking at you inquisitively.

“that's the locker we're picking the package up from.” You say, flipping through the files on the datachip.

“So, we're picking the package of from one of the public monorail lockers, and delivering it to a man on top of the empire state building. Simple enough.” Adam says.

“How is this man ensuring we deliver it in a day?” Twitch asks, and you flip through a couple more documents.

“there's a sensor in the locker. As soon as we open it, the receiver will be ready to move within a day.” You respond.

Twitch thinks for a moment.

“We have the time on our side. We should plan it out. With half our fee up front, I say we hire decoys to run around the city, and throw off security, while we get it to the man in an entirely different manner.” She says contemplatively.

“Or, we pick it up now, and hightail it over the man, and drop it off. No one will be expecting it. It's brilliant.” Adam interjects.

“What do you think, Face?”

both of them turn to you, and you think about your options.

>Twitch's Plan

“We're going with Twitch's plan. Play it safe and sneaky.”

She nods, and says “All right. Here's what we'll do....”

After a few hours, you and Adam arrived at the station. In the crowd, you could see your decoy deliverymen, all ready for you to mark the locker and start the operation.

You and Adam were there at the metro, looking for locker 6-13, when it happened. You were the first to notice.

As one of the digital signs indicated a train would be arriving soon, you noticed someone heading through the crowd in straight line. Heading forward, when the rest backed up.

Not to you.

But to the tracks.

That was when you first saw her.

The first thing you noticed was that she looked lovely, and more than a few heads were turned her way. But when she glanced around, for a second, you locked eyes. Hers were those of someone who was chased, and could only find rest in death. Pushing her way through the crowd, you unconsciously followed. And when she was ready to jump in front of that train, you leaped, and pulled her to the side.

As the two of you laid there on the platform, you remember doing one thing.

>You asked, “why?”
>You took her up, and away from the crowd.
>You told her that you were here to save her.

“I'm here to save you.”

those words, uttered by train-light as it whizzed by, may have meant nothing to you.

But to her, it seemed everything. Her face, softened and creased, and as relief washed over her, her hands clutched your body, and together, you walked her through the subway, pulled her away to a bench, sat her down, and slipped away.

“I'll be back.” You said, before you left. Pushing through the crowd, they are replaced with those leaving the train, and the odd looks you get for your actions disappears. You head toward Adam, who looked at you oddly, before turning back to the locker.

“Okay, Face, remember. As soon as you open that locker, a decoy is going to snatch it and run. From there, we're going to give chase, and when he passes through the exit, he's going to deposit it in the bag. From there, he's going to mime handing it off to another guy, and we'll split. That should throw everyone off. You ready?”

You look back at her, and back at Adam. He stares at you a bit, before nodding. “Alright, we'll make it quick. When you're done, Twitch, who's monitoring everyone will give you updates on how it's going.”

“Ready?”

You nod, and open the locker.
>>
>>27952368
Inside is a small brown package no more than a few kilos in weight. Tucking it into your pocket, you turn through the crowd, only for someone to rush by you and roughly yank it away.

You nod at Adam, and the two of you give chase to the decoy, who turns the corner, you dash forward, enough to see the package get dropped into a bag sitting next to Twitch. As the two of you rush by, Twitch gives a small nod, and slips into the crowd.

You allow yourself a small grin, and follow with the plan. As the original decoy hands a bag to another, you and Adam nod, splitting up.

The chase continues for a block or so, until you both pull into an alleyway, and stop. Taking a deep breath, you nod at the decoy.

“good work.”

He shrugs, and says, “Payment?”

You pull out your commlink, and wire over his payment.

He looks at his screen, nods, and waves goodbye.

Now that your part is done, you decide to:

As much as you want to check on her, the job takes priority.

“Meet where?' You ask.

Coordinates are sent to your commlink, and you find yourself the main hall of the train station. You can spot twitch in one of the small stores in the area, while Adam surveys the hall from the second floor balcony. You find yourself sitting on a bench, talking with everyone over the commlink feed.

“Who's the girl, Face?” Adam asks, and you shrug. “Twitch, can you tell me what's happening to her?” You say, and a small screen appears on your commlink.

It's a camera feed of the her, walking through the area. She seems lost, without direction.

You think she's safe, but Adam interrupts.

“Face, this princess of yours has got two men on her.”

What? You look over that way, and he's right. You go for your gun, only for twitch to interrupt.

“Face, jnot the time! My plan needs all three of us to deliver this thing, and without you, it falls apart. Security will help a looker like her anyhow.”

You're torn. But you decide to:

“All right. How are we getting the package there?” You ask.

Adam chuckles. “Express delivery. You see the automated courier station here? We're going to slip the package in by putting it with a bunch of other ones with the decoys. Then, the three of us are going to walk into a car, and attract all the security that way, leaving the drones to do the work for us.”

“Ballsy. But it sounds perfect.” You say, and you can almost see the grin Adam has on.

“Yeah, it's-hold on, she's approaching you.”

“Wh-” Before you can say anything, you hear a soft voice say “Excuse me.”

It's her.

You turn around and as soon as she sees your face, she blushes, then takes a deep breath, saying, “I...I don't know who you are. But I wanted to thank you. Is it true? Were you really sent to help me?”

You said “Twitch, cut power, and give me a virtual overlay of the area.”

You turned back to this mysterious girl and asked her a question.

“Do you trust me?”

As she nodded, you took her hand, and snapped your fingers.

The power shut off in the terminal, and by following the map of the station, the two of you wound your way out of the area. Mixing with the crowds on the streets, you called a taxi over, and got her in.

You pulled away, only to be stopped by some resistance.

She was still holding on.

Gently but firmly, you remove her hand. “I'm sorry, but I have to go.”

She let go, but leaves her hand hovering. the taxi drove off...

Why did that thought stick in your mind?

You can't remember it too clearly, but afterward, a bunch of things happened, and now...

Now there's six men left, and you have a pistol with 15 rounds.

Play it right, and you walk out of here alive.

Play it wrong, and the gig is up.

As one of the men rushes towards the one you just killed, you keep your distance, eyeing them all. It seems they haven't spotted you yet. As you watch, one of them looks around, then starts staring intently at a public security camera.

Oh no. You look around. They street you're on is dotted with them, here and there. It's not enough to watch everyone, but if they have the right commands, they can find you easily enough.

The street is filled with people rushing and screaming, but without any sense of direction the crowd is still milling about in this area. You could:

>>27953644
>>27953652

You took aim with the gun, and fire.

Sparks explode, and then, the lights go out in the city block. In the faint moonlight, you can see two of the men approaching. Ducking down, you hit his groin with the pistol handle, then spin it and start hammering on his face. As he collapses, you turn to the other, and spin around him, jam the gun against the base of his neck, and fire.

As the two collapse, you rush away, adrenaline stopping the pain. Cutting through a nearby clothing store, you slip on a brown overcoat, and walk out the back.

12 minutes left.

You need to get going.

This situation sounds familiar.
>>
>>27954002
“So what was that about?” Adam says, as you approach the car, and you shrug. Having just escaped and put that girl in a taxi, you've just met up with them inside the garage.

Twitch is monitoring something on her commlink, and looks at the two of you.

“We need to get going. Adam and I got spotted by the cameras, so we need to get out of here, and lead everyone on a merry goose chase around the city.”

“how long are we going for?” You ask, and Twitch replies.

“We go for, one, maybe two hours. That should be long enough to throw them off our trail. By then, the package should be on one out of hundreds of drones flying around delivering packages. There'll be no way to tell where it's at.”

“yeah, while it is on express delivery, it's not going to reach the receiver in the next few hours. That would be too obvious. We're using same day delivery, so it'll reach him eventually.” Adam says, and you nod.

Sounds like it'll work.

As Adam settles into the drivers seat and pulls out of the garage, the goose chase begins.

The next hour is filled with perilous turns and dangerous accelerations, as the two cars weave in and out of automated traffic. Twitch is rapidly hacking feeds and controls to erase the chase, and you keep an eye on the cars.

Finally, Adam pulls a stiff turn, and you drift into an alleyway and take off, leaving the pursuers far behind.

“So,” he pants. “What now?”

Adam looks at Twitch, but she refuses to give him any sort of hint. He pulls up in front of the address, and you step out.

The address you gave her was to a public library. People of all sorts are inside, reviewing or reading for some purpose or another on the terminals. You walk around, and spot her at one, looking over a news articles from a week or so back.

Pulling up a seat next to her, you tap on the center of the screen, breaking her concentration.

She looks over at you, and breathes a sigh of relief.

“So, what do you need help with?” you ask.

She flips through the articles on the screen, and selects one.

“This.”

It's an article about a recent theft at some corporation's R&D plant that resulted in several deaths.

“I'm assuming you were one of the people working there?”

She looks at you, slightly surprised.

“No. But a good guess. “

She starts to tell you her story. She was the journalist who wrote the article. When she did some digging, she found that the attempt was staged, in order to eliminate a product that should have never existed. Said product was supposed to be able to brute-force its way into any system faster than thought possible. When she tried to reveal his information, her data got wiped. All her accounts, files, even her identity. And now, she's being hunted by someone who enjoys taking time.

“I haven't been able to sleep for the past few days. Every time I try, someone knocks on a door or window, letting me know they're there.”

“I'm being hunted.” She continues. “And it's getting so exhausting I can barely stand it. I was so close to ending it all, when you arrived.”

“What do you need me to do?” you ask, and she looks at you.

“What do you think?”

“So, kill the man following you, and make sure that article goes out to the public?” You say, and she nods.

“Yes, very astute. I'm going to stay here, and keep on researching. See if I can find anything else of value.”

“W-” Before you can finish your thought, a feed opens up.

“Face. One of the courier drones just got shut down.” Adam says, and you stiffen.

Motioning the journalist to hold on, you turn away, and look out a window. Out in the distance, you can see the wisps of smoke, and you feel your adrenaline heighten.

“Was it the one with package?” You ask.

“I don't know, Twitch says probably not, but she's not sure-oh, fuck!”

Outside, you hear a small rumble, and another smoke trail drifts in the air.

“Face, something is taking these drones down quick, and it's in in your area! Move quickly, before the package gets blown up.” Adam hangs up, and you look at your commlink momentarily before turning away.

“I gotta go. Don't worry, I'll take care of your problem too.” you say to the journalist, as you rush by.

“Wait. What were you saying to me before ?” her words freeze you, and you turn back.

>'What was your name? Because I'd hate to ask you out on a date without even knowing that.'

She takes your commlink and enters it in, handing it back to you. “there. I've put my commcode on there, and the file I need you upload to the Shoncorp servers. Anything else you need?”

“Your name, so I know what to call you?”

She smiles at you. “Leah Harlowe. And you are?”

“Charmed.” You grin, and take off into the city. Messaging Adam for coordinates, you turn the corner, and find yourself staring at a bunch of warehouses.

It's got to be one of these damn things. Hopping the fence, you land on the other side, and begin moving into the facility. Creeping around, you notice one warehouse that has a bunch of armed guards standing around it, at the ready.

That's got to be your target. But how are you getting in? Looking around, you see several options.

>There's a few lifting vehicles nearby. You could drive right into the warehouse.
>Speaking of explosives, the amount of fuel around here could cause a great distraction.

It's an old trick.

That's why it still works. Sneaking up to the restrooms, you crawl into one of the windows, and drop in silently. As the guard stands, taking his leak, you sneak up behind him, and grab him in a chokehold. He struggles a bit before dropping unconscious, and you quickly take his gear and put it on. Within minutes, you're walking outside, with no one the wiser.

Keeping to a walk around the perimeter, you eyes linger at the warehouse. The door is open just a smidge, and it takes you several passes to see inside clearly.

Inside is a man controlling missiles onscreen, targeting various courier drones around the city. As you peer in, his commlink buzzes, and he picks it up.

“Who's this?”

Someone speaks on the other end, but you can't make it out at this distance. All you get to hear is the man speaking.

“Yes, the job's getting done. No, it won't be traced back to you. I'm a professional, is why.”

“Yeah, it's crazy. Crazy enough they'll never even look for me inside the city.”

“Yeah, per your orders, every drone. You've got the payment, right?”

“Alright. Hope to hear from you soon.” He hangs up. “Prick.”

He sighs, and walks towards the door, and you quickly turn away, walking your patrol. He closes the door all the way, and you hear a lock click into place on the other side.

How are you going to get in there now? There's still the explosives and the vehicles. But maybe, if you could bluff your way to that power generator and disable it...

What do you do?

You walk over to the men confidently, and say, “orders to the relieve the two of you. Both of you are reassigned to general patrol.”

the two standing there look at each other, then shrug.

“Watch out for those pigeons, man. They'll get ya.” One of them says, and the other one laughs like there's no tomorrow. As they stride off, you plant one of the grenades on your vest by the nearby explosives, and set it on a timer. Afterward, you do the same to the generator, and walk away.

An explosion rings in the background behind you, and casually, as everyone around you rushes around, you walk over to the warehouse, and test the door.

Unlocked. Seemed all the locks were electronic. Sliding it open, you step inside-only for a bullet to whiz by your ear. Diving for cover, you narrowly avoid the next few.

“Who are you, and why are you here?” The man demands, and you shake your head. Does he really think you're going to answer him?

Your response is to fire a few shots in his direction, and rush him as soon as he's distracted. Grabbing him around the neck, you hold him close and point a gun at his head.

“Who's your client?” You demand.

“I ain't telling you shit, so back off!” the man throws his elbow back, landing a good hit in your gut, and you reel, letting him go. As he dives for cover, the two of you find yourself at a standoff, guns pointed at each other.

“Just tell me what I need to know.” You say, and he shakes his head.

“No.” He pulls the trigger on his gun, winging you in the gut, and you fall over, aim still trained on him. Do you:

>Shoot him. He isn't going to spill anything. But you've destroyed his control center, so the drones are safe.

As you go down, you wing the man in the arm. Quickly, you roll over around bounce to your feet, barrelling into the man. Shoving him to the ground, you train your gun on his back.

“Hold still.”

tapping your commlink, you open up a feed to Adam and Twitch. “I've got the guy responsible, but he isn't talking.”

“Where's his commlink?”

You look around and see it a bit out of the way. Reaching over you examine it. There's a few biometric scanners on it, and you tell Twitch.
“Good. That means if you bring him, finding out who his employer was will be much easier.”

“About that...” You say. “I'm in the middle of his compound right now. Anyway the two of you could help me out?”

“No problem. Can you hold out for 5 minutes?” Adam says, and you nod.

Grabbing the man, you drag him behind a desk, and hold your position. As people come in, you hold still.

Then one of them notices you, and you start firing. As targets into the crosshairs, bullets are spit out, dropping men like flies.

Then the gun clicks empty.

At the same time, you hear another explosion in the compound, and you get a message.

“Get going. Now.”

taking your cue, you grab the man's gun, and dart into the open.

Outside, you can see a forklift holding two massive containers barrelling into people, with Adam leaning out and taking potshots at anything that's threatening his movement. Spotting you, he guns it across the compound, blowing away a barricade and pulling up next to you.

“let's go, Face!”

You don't need to be told. As you hop into the forklift, man in tow, aiming at the guards, the two of you drive away.

“Twitch is getting the car over here. We need to make our transition fast!” As he speaks, a car pulls up, popping open all the doors. You quickly move over, and drive into the city.

Having Adam around makes things so much easier.
>>
>>27956457

It's pity you didn't have him a bit afterwards, when youwere being chased by the comapany men.

Hobbling down the city block, wearing that brown overcoat, you constantly check behind you for any sort of a chase.

Then a feeling of faintness comes over you, and you nearly collapse.

You're losing blood, and the adrenaline's worn off. You look down the street, and you can see the theater you were planning to meet Harlowe at.

You were about to smile-then a car screeched behind you, and several men got out.

You:

There was no way you could fight them. Not with a coat that was turning crimson and a single handgun.

You hobbled away as fast as you could.

But it was not enough.

They ttook you down with a taser, and you collapsed into a muddy puddle in an alley.

As you laid there, fading in and out of consciousness, you saw a face.

A face of a man you thought you killed.

Then the world goes black.

11 minutes left.

Not that you'll make it in time.

Back when you were first shot at the compound, you brushed it off as a healable wound. If only you knew it would set you back this much.

“It's nothing,” you said, brushing away Adam with the scalpel and stiching thread.. “Give me a localized painkiller and one of those medpatches.”

You, Adam and Twitch are in a safehouse, waiting for Twitch to finish decoding the mysterious man's commlink. It's slow going, but eventually Twitch gets a hit.

“Aha. Found it. Came from a company comm.”

You look over. The company that hired this man to destroy the drones was the one who had their product stolen in that news article Harlowe showed you.

You tell Adam and Twitch, and they both nod.

“Figures as much. Still, we're getting paid to deliver it to the opposition.”

'Where is this drone, by the way?” Adam ask twitch, and she shrugs.

“I don't know. By current estimate, it will deliver to the receiver in five hours.”

“And when is our deadline?”

“About seven hours from now.”

“cutting it close, don't you think?” You joke, but she sighs.

“Maybe. If the drone its on goes down for maintenance, we'll have no way of getting it. I should try and track it down specifically.' Twitch goes to her terminal and starts typing things, while you and Adam both look at the mysterious man.

“We could just throw him out. He's no harm to us now.” Adam says, and you consider it.

He struggles for an instant before dropping unconscious, and you and Adam tie him up.

“So, what now?” He asks.

You still need to upload data to Shoncorp servers, and take care of this mysterious hitman.

You decide to:

>bring Adam with you when you hit shoncorp servers.

You call her and ask her this.

“Hey, want to help me break into the server rooms of Shoncorp?”

“You're absolutely crazy, you know that?” She replies, and you pause.

“It just might work. Meet me there in 30 minutes.”

“Alright.” You say, and you turn to Twitch and Adam.

“want to meet my girl?”

half an hour later, the three of you enter one of Shorncorp's media centers. Harlowe is here, loitering outside, and you walk up to her.

“Ready for this?” You ask, and she nods. As all of you walk into the building, she passes out IDs. “I swiped a few of these before I was deleted from the system. They should get you anywhere inside the building, except the server room.”

“figures.” Adam says, looking at the ID. “So you need me and Face here to break in? Plant a bug so that Twitch can get us into the servers proper?”

“Yes. We'll be somewhere in the building, operating on a remote connection. You two plant that bug, and we'll make sure it goes to the right areas.”

“Alright. Let's go.” You say, and you and Adam take off from the group. With the IDs, its smooth sailing, until you hit the server rooms. Two guards stand there, and you consider your options.

“Alright, follow my lead.”

You stride out of the staircase, and towards the guards. You look at them then back at Adam.

“Crap, we're on the wrong floor.”

Right on cue, Adam talks back. “Of course we are. I told you it was the floor above. Why don't you listen to me?”

“Because I know that's the cafeteria floor.”

“No it isn't. Ask these guys.”

You walk up to them, and they tighten their grip on their guns. Hey.” You say. “Which floor is the cafeteria on? Because I want a.....knuckle sandwich!” You yell the last phrase and punch one of the guards in the face. As you do so, Adam deftly disarms the other and flips him over his back, knocking his face in with the rifle butt.

“Knuckle Sandwich?” He asks, and you shrug. “only joke I could come up with.”

he shakes his head and the two of you walk into the server room. Pulling out a datachip, you put it into the port of one of the nearby servers.

“Twitch, we've got it activated. Can you get in?”

“Give me a moment.” She says.

You and Adam give her several.

“What's taking so long?” you ask.

You hear Harlowe talk. “Damn. Security's put in a bunch of new counterintrusion measures she'll never be able to break any time so-”

“Give me that!” Twitch yells. “I can do it, but I need a few hours. Maybe more. Security will notice, though. Ohshi-”

her voice is cut off by a gunshot.

“he's here-” Marlowe's voice cuts off, and in the background, you can hear the harsh bark of gunfire. You look at Adam.

You barge into the floor, gun blazing, and bullets narrowly whizzing by your ear. Twitch is firing, using the guncam to help aim, and you can see several other gunmen on the cubicle floor. As soon as you come in, Adam busts in from the other side kicking the door open and spraying with a rifle. While he distracts, your angle giving you the most advantageous shots allowing you to drop more than a few of the men. As bodies drop, turning the odds, you see a grenade hurled high in the air and duck for cover.

It goes off with a boom, and the flash is visible through your closed eyelids. As you open them and look around the burned and blasted area, you catch the sight of a man that has guns trained on both Harlowe and Twitch.

“Put your gun down, if you would, please.” He calls out at Adam's direction, and you risk a peek around the corner..

He thinks there's only one of you there.

“Hurry now. A man like you should have never bothered putting ladies like these in danger.”

You attempt to look around for any way of solving this situation.

You could try and gun the man down, but with the other guards looking around, you'd be killed almost immediately after.

There's a terminal nearby displaying the location of a drone outside the window, with an option to control it. But if you miss, they'll know you're there, and they'll be just as strong as before.

Adam knows what to do.

Buy you time.

“Alright, you got me.” He crows, standing up. As dozens of guns train themselves on him, you crawl over the keyboard and begin typing.

The man strides over to him, and looks him square in the eye. “You know, you've caused a lot of trouble for me and my friends. It was simple wetwork. But instead, you have to muck everything up.”

“Jeez, Fucknuts, that must mean you suck at your job.”

That gets the hitman. He bashes Adam in the stomach with the rifle butt, and he falls to the ground.

You enable the controls, and start lining up the drone outside the window.

The hitman throws dozens of blows at Adam, who takes them all, weakly grinning. “Jesus, you hit like a girl.”

the hitman's response is to smash him into the ground and draw his pistol.

“the game's up, asshole. And because you're so nice to me, I'm going to kill you first.”

As he lines it up with Adam's head, you enable the throttle on the drone and gun it forward. A the glass shatters, you grab your rifle, and unload into the men nearby. Surprised by the attack, they are mowed down, and the drone catches the man right in the face, launching him out a nearby window before crashing on the ground nearby, propellers flying.

You stand up form your firing position and look around. Everyone's safe. You smile-then pain rips through the lower half of your body. You look down.
>>
>>27959203

Right were the bullet struck you earlier, sticks a sharp piece of metal from the wound. No one's noticed yet. Adam is looking for magazines, and Harlowe is looking around the office floor. Twitch looks at the wrecked drone and swears. “Shit. That was the drone carrying the package. We need to deliver it by hand.”

No one's noticed that you're wounded.

As Adam, Twitch and Harlowe move the drone to get to the package underneath, you spot an alarm silently beeping underneath a desk. A small line of text displays 'heavy corpsec incoming. Please lay down on the ground with your hands on your head.

The whole plan's gone to shite, real fast.

You:
>Make twitch and Harlowe leave the area. They can't survive a heavy firefight. Have Adam use the package and upload the data.

You turn sideways to hide your wound, and start giving out orders. “Twitch, Harlowe, get out of the area. Heavy corpsec is incoming. Adam is going to use the device and get us into the system. We'll upload the data, and get out of here.”

twitch and harlowe nod, and start moving, but Adam looks at you.

“What?” You ask.

He shrugs.

“You've been a lot more commanding today. Usually, I'm the one giving orders. What's happened?” You look, to make sure the girls are gone, then turn, showing the piece of metal sticking out of you.

Adam winces. “Can you still stand with that?”

“I don't know.” You say. “But we need to upload that file, and deliver that device halfway across the city, and I'm in no condition to move it. I'll lead everyone else in the other direction.”

“You sure?”

You remember your words.

“Damn sure.”

With a wound in your side, you weren't much of a speedster. But with a gun and a few grenades, you caused enough chaos to slip into the city and lead those company goons on a merry chase through the alleyways of the city.

It's been long enough now. Adam's sure to have made it.

A message comes into your commlink.

“thanks for all your help. can I buy you dinner and a play?-leah harlowe”

You look at the time. 6pm. You could make it in an hour. But with your wound, you don't feel all that hungry. You text her back. '715. theater first.'

You grin.

Then a bullet strikes the piece of metal stuck in your body, and you roar in pain, Struggling blindly, you fire your rifle until it's dry, and stagger into the city.
>>
>>27959848
An hour later, with your crippled form, you still haven't lost them. Despair washes over you, and you collapse in an alleyway, leaning against a trashcan.

That can't happen. You clutch your wound, and hoist yourself up with all your strength. Tooth and nail, you fought, until they tasered you in the back, and that hitman standing over you was the last thing you saw.

You wake up, and find yourself in a room, with a clock.

5 minutes left.

You can do this. You can escape, and still make it.

Right?

You struggle against the bonds holding you to a chair, but they refuse to budge.

4 minutes left.

You try and move the chair itself, but it's bolted to the ground.

3 minutes left.

You don't give up you struggle and struggle, but the only thing that exiist is that clock, counting away time.

2 minutes left.

1 minute left.

The clock clicks.

0 minutes left. The hands fall with a sudden finalty, and your drop your head.

You are very late for a very important date.

A door opens in front of you, and you see the hitman standing there, a wide grin on his face.

You:
>call him fucknuts.
>Spit at him.
>tell him to let you go, before you wreck his shit.
>Other.

>"Let me go, otherwise I'm going to spill and rape your shit."

The hitman laughs. “Really?” He then kicks that piece of metal in your body, and the pain sends you reeling. As you groan in pain, he roughly hoists you up by the arm, and pulls you into the next room over.

You find yourself in a large room, with all sorts of news articles plastered on the wall. A middle-aged man stares out the window, admiring the city below.

“That will be all, hitman.” He says when the hitman pulls you in. “Leave him there, in the center of the room.”

the hitman bows out gracefully after pulling you in, and the man turns to you.

“What is the function of a news company to you?”

You open your mouth, but he raises his hand. “Whatever you are thinking, it is probably wrong. The first newspaper in the world was made because someone saw profit in it. Money.”
>>
>>27960323
he waves his arms around the room. These headlines were picked for the most grabbing, the ones that would generate the most revenue. More than once, a sensational headline caused great strife in the history of our world.”

“You may ask, why then, did you not let that journalist release her article? It would have made great sales!” He pauses for a moment, and looks at you, square in the eyes. “Because I would make a greater profit from not having my stock portfolio drop. The investment I made, to break into every company and release their secrets, is out there, in the wild. And with the story out, I have nothing.”

“Nothing that, is except for revenge.”

the man draws a knife, and advances towards you. “I may have been torn from my place, by the unruly mob as you, but I will have the satisfaction of making sure you will never enjoy it.” as he advances slowly, you hairs go up on edge, and adrenaline starts coursing through your system.

You're not going to die here. You:

>Use your bindings, and choke the man.
>Cut the bindings with that piece of metal in you, and use it to stab him in the heart.
>Dropkick this crazy old man out the window.
>Other.

It's not ending here. Thrusting your bindings against the metal, they snap loose, and you pull the shard out, lunging at the man and plunging it deep into his chest. As he staggers back, you crouch slightly, then run and kick, launching then man out the window with a spectacular drop kick. As the glass shatters and he falls to the ground far below, waves of exhaustion wash over you, and you feel fatigued. You drop to your knees, and the hitman comes storming in. “What did you-” He looks upon what has happened, and his face turns an angry red. He moves to pull his gun, but before he can train it on you, the window shatters, and Adam flies in, clinging to a courier drone.

“YO, FUCKNUTS!” He roars, launching a kick at the hitman, who falls to the ground. Before he can recover, Adam picks him up, and smashes him once more to the ground in a suplex, before swiftly turning around and swing a drone at the man, which catches him and sends him sailing out the window before it explodes. He grins, and turns to you.

“Glad to see, you're picking up some new moves.”

You flip him the finger before you collapse to the ground once more.

You wake in a hospital bed, an IV attached to your arm. You look around. Adam and Twitch are sitting in chairs, lounging about, when suddenly, they see you alive. Twitch gives you a hug, and you look at Adam, who's grinning cheerily.

“Look at that asshole operative who made us lose have the paycheck.” He says.

'What happened?” You responded, and he rolls his eyes.

“You did. With all your helping a journalist, hijacking courier drones and getting caught, we ended up delivering the package late. One lousy minute late, and they dock us half. Of course, me and Twitch wouldn't stand for it.”

“So, what'd you do?”

He grins. “took the device and smashed it.”

You groan. “we could have taken it and found a seller. With the technology in it, we could have made a killing.”

“Actually, we did.” Twitch says. “Our regular client intercepted us beforehand and offered to buy it and give us a fake. Adam likes to leave that part out.”

“Makes for a good story.” He says.

“And Harlowe?” You ask. Twitch shakes her head.

“You didn't show up. So she left.”

“I see.” You say.

“Yeah, said she needed to work on some article.” Twitch responds.

You ask, “Where?”

Meanwhile, a journalist is hammering away at her typewriter. Not on some computer screen, god no. Words are hardly physical on those. No. She loved the smell of ink, the oil on the machine, and the dedication it took to make sure an article was perfect.

She loved all that, and a man who saved her life.

He never showed for their date. Maybe it was her. Maybe she was too rash, or helpless. So instead of lamenting it, she went home, and wrote an article, to get the disappointment out of her system. It wouldn't be any good to be published, oh no. It was a recap of events, for personal files. Something to help come to terms with. Unfortunately, as she came to the present, she wondered, very morosely, how would it end.

A knock on the door.

Who would ever bother to visit her? Pushing away from the typewriter, her feet cautiously moved across the wooden floor. Peering through the eyehole, she noticed it was blocked. Again. She really had to talk to the janitors about that, leaving notices on the door when they could slide underneath. Wearily, she creaked the door open.

And smiled.

Here in front of her is that happy ending.

Phew. Quest over. How'd everyone like it? comments? criticism? Lay them on me! Hopefully, the romance didn't to feel forced, and the perspective jumping wasn't too confusing either. please, tell me what you think.

it was good but the climatic hardcore part I think came a bit too rushed, maybe fleshing the moment a bit more before the climatic gtaV drone incursion? but it was an entertaining read

Awesome as usual.

As the guy who asked for More Face/Twitch Time last time, this was a nice change of pace...

... and its pretty hilarious seeing Adam's influence rubbing off on Face. Though half of that's just cuz its the same crew driving.

>Having Adam around makes things so much easier.
This made me crack up.

If anything it seemed.... a little too easy, actually. I really, really dig your narrative style and storytelling, but I'm more accustomed to quests that have the dice fuck things up at all the wrong moments.
This isn't a bad thing. Just different, and I like it.

I kind of want to see twitch's side of things, now. What makes her tick? What's her inspiration?
I'd kind of like to see her dragging along adam and face to a Hacker Convention and getting them to help HER with totally nerdy things where they're BOTH a bit out of their depth - which basically never happens for adam, or smooth-operator face.

>If anything it seemed.... a little too easy, actually.

Also, i should point out, this is biased by just getting here and reading it all in one go.

Upon further consideration/backreading, man that shit is tense and you have no idea if face is gonna make it as it was unfolding.

Nice! Thanks for running!

Thank you very much Rbroker! I enjoyed the read and the perspective jump was pretty good. Made me curious how everything will work out
>>
>>27961059
Yes, this is true. at the time, i had very little idea of how to extend it, so I went straight for an ending rather than risk using not-so-good ideas and filler. it's definitely something I need to work on.

>>27964283
yeah, you're part of the reason why i decided to switch over to face. as for not using dice, I ran with them in the very first net gain quest, and tried them without in the second, and for some reason, it helped everything flow a lot better. maybe next time, though, I'll try using dice again.

No no no.

What i'm saying is not using dice is a good thing, and it focuses on the cinematic/guided storytelling BETTER.

Sorry if I wasn't clear
