>MAGIC ITEM MAKER CHALLENGE

ITT: we try to make the coolest magic items possible

>Every challenge needs rules
1. Challenge is for items, not mcguffins. Stuff that players in a campaign could use rather than the focus of a campaign.
2. Items that are alchemical/made from fantastical materials are acceptable also.
3. Every item that is actually magical must have a drawback/cost/sacrifice of sorts for its use.
4. Joke items, pun items, and items that are entirely worthless (aka "Ring of Invisibility: this ring is invisible") are automatically considered shit-tier this time around.
5. If you're basing it off of something from fiction, give credit (so nobody uses it and gets called out for it without being aware it's not original content).

>We've ended up with some pretty bitching items doing this before
>Let's see what you've got up your sleeves this time, fa/tg/uys
>>
A human skull, yellowed with age, with the jawbone wired in place with fine copper wire. The skull has been etched with very fine runes, visible only in bright light, that identify it with the name of "Jerimr".
Properties: When the skull's name is spoken aloud by someone holding it in their left hand, it will rise into the air and assume a position over his left shoulder, hovering unsupported, whereupon it will burst into cold green flames, providing light equivalent to a lantern.
>>
The Murderer's Cloak

Upon activation, the wearer and all items currently carrying or wearing turns into a flock of ravens of equal mass. The flock remains unified by a singular will, but remains mostly human, but feels incredibly hungry due to the energy needed for the transformation. If a Will save is not passed, then the flock will immediately seek out food.

So named due to the popular urban legend of murderers who would use such an item of clothing to consume or otherwise disfigure the victim of their crimes in a state where they do not feel quite so repulsed doing so, before escaping via flight.

This is fucking awesome. Consider it stolen.

>cool one from last thread

Bestial Blood Bowl
A small wooden bowl engraved with the heads of a snarling lion, bear, a screaming eagle, and a fish's face.
If the blood of a dead animal is put into this bowl and then drank from the bowl, the person who drinks it transforms into the type of animal blood that he drank.
However, he does NOT keep his intelligence from his original human self.
He can be changed back, but only if somebody who knows what happened forces the animal to drink blood from the bowl of a dead human. He will return with his memories restored.
This was used commonly in shamanistic practices- letting shamans run as an animal and they could divine insight from the experience. It always comes back as a blur, but many seem to enjoy the freedom of being an animal, though few will volunteer to lose their will a second time.
>>
>>27972750
>and the optional part 2

The magic is also infamous because of its use during a particular famine.

A king forced some beggars, petty thieves, and other street urchins to drink from the bowl with the bowl full of cow's blood. They all transformed into cows and the Kingdom feasted. At first the king only did this because his people were starving, but he soon realized that it was much cheaper and faster to make cows through the bowl then any other way! He started to produce tons of cows, sheep, goats, and even horses and dogs through the bowl, but the next day the bowl was gone, all the animals in the kingdom disappeared, and the king dead in his bed, looking like he had been torn apart by teeth and claws. Nobody knows what happened that night, but since then nobody has used the bowl in this way.

The Another knife has been heard to sporadically surface in the criminal underworld for centuries, although its peculiar nature can make it hard to tell if someone actually possesses it. The nature of the Another knife is such that it has no true physical form, but if its owner ever is entirely disarmed and in dire need of a blade, he will find that a knife or dagger of some description has materialized, concealed somewhere on his person. Should this weapon be discovered and taken from him as well, another knife will appear. The Another knife itself can only be given away freely or taken from the dead body of its last owner, where it will materialize in the moment of his death, again taking the shape of a knife or dagger of indeterminate description. As long as the Another knife has an owner, its different physical instances tend to vanish into thin air as soon as they're not being observed.

Inspired by a certain Discworld villain who always seems to have, well, another knife.

The Perfidious Blade.

An ancient sword which gives you strength and agility while striking at your oponent.

yet, if you use it to parry, it will take strength and agility from you in return

better use this thing with a shield.

pic semi related, its a nice sword.
>>
Have you ever been going through your possessions after an adventure, and noticed you picked up an extra dagger somewhere, and assumed you'd forgotten about it?

You didn't forget anything.

The Breeding Knives are alive, though in all senses they are identical to a knife forged by human hands. What sets them apart is the blood they absorb; where blood runs off steel, it soaks into these knives, the iron and carbon within the blood reborn as new; and suddenly, there is another dagger in your bag.
>>
>>27972984
I think it's cool, even if in D&D it would be +2, -2 shield bonus to AC, or something like that.
>>
the daywalker chalice
kill a paladin at the moment he falls
fill up the chalice with his blood, up to the brim
drinking this cures a vampire of all the ill effects of vampirism while allowing him to keep the advantages

The Shield of the Pariah

When equipped, the shield will contort the owner's visage into that of a lump of flesh, and will cause as much distress as if they were an undead in the holy capital city. The owner must pass a DC 20 will save to notice anything affecting them. Emits a high level fear aura that makes enemies and allies alike in 50 feet pass a DC 25 or become shaken, Pass a DC 15 or be feared for two rounds.
>>
Magic fungus. Consumption gives a nice but temporary bonus. For every one you consume, two will grow out of your body next time you take a rest. You take 1 point of damage for each. Will save to resist addiction.
>>
What's the best way to make "corrupts and turns the wielder evil" weapons, and how do you make weapons that would turn the wielder Lawful Good without making it too obvious? Having to pass a will save or you're forced to, say, give food to the starving old lady seems a bit heavy-handed and easy to spot.
>>
>>27973644

Normal +1 sword. Turns +5 and vorpal against people who trust you.
>>
>>27972662

It should also include a rule for combat/raven losses. For each raven lost the wearer rolls a d 20, on a roll of 2 - 12 the player takes damage, on a roll of 13-19 the player looses a random item of gear, on a roll of 20 the player gets to choose the item lost. A roll of 1 the player takes a critical hit, if the player rolls more than 3 ones, they suffer instant death as soon as they return from raven form with no saves.

My own would be "The Boots of Unusual Gravity" these boots allow you to walk on any solid surface as if it was the floor. You can climb vertical walls or even walk along the ceiling per your normal movement rate. Objects that leave your possession fall as normal. The boots impose a severe limit on your carrying capacity while in your possession, and only function when at least one boot is in proximity to the surface, should a user jump or sprint they fall as normal.
>>
>>27973644

Cursed magic ring that gives you nice physical bonuses; the bonuses are always there, but you also get a nagging self doubt and lingering guilt whenever you commit an evil act. Mechanically this could be a mental status effect/attribute damage. The effect is cumulative with each evil act and only fades in time or if they do something good without expectation that it will remove/reduce the status effect.
>>
Bloodseeker

This battleaxe always slowly moves towards the nearest source of blood other than the owner.
>>
>>27973571
id have the temporary bonus be diminishing with extended use and the addiction being increasing. so more have to be taken to get a worthy buff, yet running the risk of addiction and/or death by becoming a mushroom farm
>>
The cloak of unknown. Wearing it will allow you to become unknown to everyone. Friends, family, enemies, will all forget you. Records of your existence (marrige documents, portraits, your will) will misteriously disappear. Removal of the cloak will not return these things. Also, while wearing the cloak, you are unnoticable. Every person will ignore you, even if you are loud or attempt to attract attention.
>>
The hot pot.

A survivalist's best friend, the hot pot is the size of a large cooking pot. Putting a liquid (or ice/snow) into the hot pot heats the liquid up to near boiling, regardless of external temperatures. Said heating point is "individualized" for the liquid; the final temperature for water will not be the same as alcohol.

The heating process is not instantaneous, taking exactly 30 seconds to get the liquid to a near boil.
>>
Sidereal Sword

A sword made of glass. It is ordinary glass, it breaks pretty easily. But if starlight is falling on the blade, it absorbs the light and becomes an +5 longsword which is as difficult to break as any other +5 weapon.
>>
Maidens Gem

A clear glass bead the size of a large pea - glows red when near a virgin... male or female
>>
Lightning Armor

Every time this armor is struck, it gives out some electricity which hurts both the attacker (as lnog as he is using a metal weapon and attacking in melee) and the one who wears it.
>>
Firefly in a jar. Not bright enough to be a light source, but if the jar is broken, it will unerringly find the quickest way to get "outdoors". Too fast to follow. Will attract the attention of everything in its path.
>>
Dead Man's Brew

A particularly foul form of magic, the Dead Man's Brew is a liquid that allows one to know all of a man's secrets. One must kill the man, and drain all his blood. One must distill his blood using his skin to catch the vapor. His brain must be pounded into a fine pulp, then have its juices squeezed into the distilled blood. When this process is finished, a small cask must be constructed of his bones. The liquid must be allowed to ferment in the cask with his eyes ears and tongue. For an even more potent brew, his nose and one of his hands can be added. The longer the mixture is allowed to ferment, the memories become more numerous and vivid. A properly brewed and aged Dead Man's Brew will allow one to know all of a man's secrets, all the inner machinations of his mind, and all his thoughts. A quickly crafted brew may allow one to know a few details.
>>
Assassin's Longbow

The first arrow loosed from this bow each day will vanish into thin air. It will reappear exactly one day later, retaining its precise location and momentum.
>>
Weird Hat

While you are wearing this hat, everyone who sees you for the first time that day will look at you and ponder why would anyone wear this hat. The effect lasts a few rounds until they lose interest. Useful for distractions.

>>
"Boom" Sword

When someone holds this sword, the person who held it previously can shout "BOOM!" and the sword will zap the new holder with lightning and teleport to the previous holder's hand.
>>
Shatter Sword

Normally a +3 Longsword, the Shatter Sword can be activated with a simple phrase. On it's next successful attack, the Shatter Sword will shatter into hundreds of shards of metal with great force, retaining the direction of momentum of the swing or thrust that caused the hit. This causes horrendous physical harm to the target of the attack while leaving the wielder unscathed, but destroys the weapon in the process.

For when you more or less want the effect of Explosive Runes, but don't want to kill yourself in the process.

This is from a short story from Dragonlance novels.

I remember reading this shit forever ago; it was neat because it was written from the dagger's perspective around one of the first fights the "real" party of the series had on their "real" campaign.

It eventually got thrown into a plank or stone or something and died of starvation, I think.

>>
Ring of Creeping Cancer

Upon adorning this ring, the wearer will grow on any desired part of his body a chitinous extra appendage, ending in a large crab's claw. This limb will be completely under the bearer's control, and will allow the bearer a small AC bonus and an optional additional round of attack for the use of the arm, if desired. However, each day the ring stays on, the chitin spreads over the body a little more, increasing the AC bonus but also reducing the Dexterity of its wielder. The ring can only be removed after three days minimum, at which point the bearer will revert to normal.
>>
The Spellbane Rose

A single rosebush, in a garden of a forgotten ruin, whose petals appear to be made from garnet. When a magic user touches any of the flowers their magic is burned away and they take damage relative to how much magic was purged. The rose will still have its effect through clothing and armor but does nothing to those who are not attuned to magic.

Cuttings from the bush do not sprout and flowers cut from the bush whither within a month.

Hellforged Sword

"The man or woman who wields this sword will die. They will then be reborn as a hellspawn. They will be of one mind and body with the blade. They will protect it and it will protect them."

Abilities:
>Super Strength
>The sword heals just like your body
>The sword is bound to you so you can call it and it will fly into your hand.
>Sword is sentient and can know things you don't.
>Automatic respect from demonic beings.
>Control over hellfire
>You take no damage from flames
>If you die you can climb out of hell

Downsides
>You must face the pain of death and climb out of hell to use the sword.
>Once you have it you are a demon forever.
>The sword will always be bound to you.
>It gets jealous and destroys your other weapons.
>Angelic beings automatically hate you.
>The sword tempts you to do evil.
>In the end the sword will devour your body and become dormant until it finds another owner.
>>

Clever.
>>
>>27974623

It could be any level of enhancement, really. I just used +3 as an example.

I guess an alternative to actually destroying the weapon would be to make it reform after a few seconds, with a use per day or something like that.

Swords forged with the Bond of Steel are intensely magical, powerful weapons. Most things will cut like warm butter, those not cut through suffer incredible knockback. Time seems slowed for those wielding one of these swords, increasing reaction time.

After only a few short uses, it becomes hard to release the sword. More and more uses make it simply harder and harder to release your grasp from the sword until you find it no longer possible to relinquish it. Soon, your armor refuses to come off, also fused to your very body. All the while, your skill in combat increases. You find yourself not sleeping nor being tired. The steel from your armor and sword creep onto and into your skin.

Whoops this isn't cool this some cursed shit but I might as well post it anyway?
>>
>>27974910
Or you could make it so that when ever you are not in control of your body (ie: unconscious, dead, mind control) it begins taking control and you have to pass a Will DC check to retake control. This may or may not occur when sleep, depending on what you want.
>>
Debtor's ring

A gold ring shaped in the form of a manacle, uncomfortably tight regardless of how it's worn.

This item makes the user astoundingly persuasive in all matters financial.
The ring functions so long as the user's wealth increases at a trivial-but-growing compounding rate.

The persuasive magic of the ring degrades over time at a rate at first unnoticeable, which accelerates exponentially.

Silver Horseshoe

A silver horseshoe with foreign writing etched on to the side of the shoe. Roughly translates to "Trailfire".

>Bloodrose Arrows

Blood Roses are a kind of roses which grow only in the most remote groves. They are extremely hardy and very rarely blossom but when they do they are beautiful beyond compare.

Their extremely sturdy nature extends even to their leaves and a non-educated observer would easily mistake them for a very small wooden spear of sorts. That is until they have blossomed.

The blood rose rarely blossoms though and when it does, it happens in seconds. The known way to make Blood Roses to blossom is by sprinkling them with blood. As soon as blood has hit the blood rose, it will be absorbed by the woody exterior and the head of the rose will expand and unfold in all its glory within seconds. Onlookers describe it as one of the most beautiful flowers they have ever seen, were it not in the particular circumstance.

The hardy exterior of the bloodrose is so tough that it can even pierce metallic armor and nimble herbalists rish the harsh thornes of the blood rose to attatch arrow feathers and carve knocks into them, making them into gruesome arrows which will expand violently upon entering their victen, shredding the innards of any creature unfortunate enough to be hit by it.

While not specifically magical in nature, blood rose arrows are only handled by the most skilled or foolhardy of magicians or herbalists and it is very rare to find them outside shops which deal in such rarities.
>>
Viscous blade

A long sword with a greenish tent to the metal. Whenever the sword is swung the blade turns into slime as it strikes the target. When the handle is pulled back the slime solidifies and tears up flesh as it flies back to the blade.

Maybe it ignores armor or something, but there's a check to see how well the blade forms.
>>
>>27975234
>Dawn Stone

A softly glowing stone which emits a faint blue light. When anything comes within a few inches of dawn stone the stone will light up in a flash and slow the object considerably. This makes it very valuable for spot-protection but the brittle nature of dawn stone causes it to make very bad armor in itself. Dawn Stone can be extremely hard to mine because of its properties, slowing down pickaxes to a point where they are almost pointless. Many fine suits of armor, however, are adorned with dawn stone as precious stones, lending protection to the wearer of the armor. It seems that the larger the mass of the dawn stone, the stronger the effect is. This means that the small pebbles used to adorn armor has a rather limited effect while the greater quantities it is mined in, makes said mining extremely difficult. This has caused the rise of a very specialized profession who mines out dawn stone by grinding it out of the very rock with rough tools, taking care not to damage the stone itself. Clever duelists sometimes have specially crafted Dawn Stone handles for their swords to protect their hands in duels.
>>
>>27975306
>Tenebrine

A rare stone that swallows light from its surroundings, causing it to appear perfectly pitch black and casting the surrounding area in deep shadows. Useful enough for this reason alone in its pure form, it can also be forged with metals to make so-called "umbral" alloys, which share many of the properties of the base metal or alloy but additionally possess a weakened form of tenebrite's light-draining power and serve as an effective focus for the amplification of shadow- and darkness-related magic.

Hearth Sword

An otherwise unremarkable longsword that when stuck into the ground causes a shelter to assemble itself around where it was stuck. The style and stability of the structure depends on where the sword was stuck: a log shack in the woods, a sand castle on the beach, etc. The entire process takes about an hour to complete and remains even after the sword is removed.

> Thunder-Titan Orb
The orb builds energy over time. Once every 24 hours it will unleash a devastating lightning bolt to the sky and send it crashing down on the tallest object/living creature in a large radius. With enough magical knowledge, you can command the orb to unleash it's energy early, but it will resume it's normal cycle, setting off lightning bolts at the same time.

Downside (other than a very situational item) is if you are lost in an area where you are the tallest thing, you're gonna get hit. Can't take it into water without creating a permenantly electrified lake/bath/etc.

> Ogre Liquor
The name is the nickname local thugs and brutes have given this formula. It makes the wearer's skin more resistant to pain and damage for a few hours. The down side is the "hangover". Other than normal hang over symtoms, it causes the sensation of a "full body bruise", where the victims body is very sore and achey. Most people require a day of rest to recuperate.

> Mimic Maker
A wand/staff/etc that causes inanimate objects to become animate. The object grows a large mouth lined with razor sharp teeth with a stomach with strong acids. You can control as many mimics as you can animals/familirs (One by default, but if you can control 2 animals, you're smart enough to comand two mimics). Max of 5 mimics, using the wand again restores the first mimic to it's natural form.

These mimics need to eat every few hours (3 meals) eating as much living matter as large man would for dinner. The matter has to be alive, flesh and blood. If they miss a meal, they will turn wild and eat the nearest thing, controller included. If they miss 2 meals their abilties/stats sky-rocket. When they miss 3 meals, they revert back to normal objects (the normal object, providing it is not indestructable, will implode in on itself at this point. Wood splinters, metal crumples into a ball, etc)

>Cavorite Armor

Cavorite is a rare floating gel-like material found only in very deep marshland where it floats gently above the surface of the mud while its covered in grass or held down by branches. It is lighter than air which makes it float.

Skillful armorers make hollow armor and fill them with Cavorite to create virtually (or, quite literally) weightless armor. Master Armorers sometimes work with powerful wizards to forge magically hardened steel into armor so thin, yet strong, that if the armor is not weighed down, it will fly away when filled with the cavorite. This may prove problematic for the salesman, but it also allows the wearer to jump incredible distances and run at amazing speeds as the weight of the wearer is decreased.
>>
Great Veil

A tiny veil that only blocks a portion of the face. While the user is wearing it they cannot be identified by anyone nor will anyone clearly remember their appearance. It does, however, make their clothes disappear and replaces them with a skimpy Arabian dancer's outfit that offers no armor protection.

>A large gear of solid iron, enchanted to turn constantly by means of a circular magical diagram inscribed on its face. Although it turns very slowly, it does so with apparently unlimited torque; it will turn at that constant rate no matter how much resistance is put on it. An entire city--state is built around it, powering its whole infrastructure off of this source of unlimited mechanical power - the mountainous city of Eth, pumping fresh air deep into its caverns. Every fifty years, the diagram on its face must be renewed in fresh, human blood.

>A hoop of heavy, silvery metal over nine feet in diameter. If it is placed on the surface of a solid object, a corresponding hoop will appear on the other side, no matter the distance, and if you look into the hoop you will see a ruler-straight engraved metal tunnel of the appropriate distance linking them. A city is built around this ring, as well; if it is placed down on solid ground, and no caves lie below it, it will tunnel down to the Earth's mantle, allowing a flow of hot magma upwards. This source of unlimited geothermal power is the key to the arctic coastal city of Steamhold, built of cast basalt; the endless supply of superheated steam provided by the magma channel and the nearby sea provide heat and power to the city's many devices.

>Ersatz Satchel
A nondescript satchel made of rough leather. It used by placing any item inside, and upon taking out will turn into any desired item. Items produced by this effect are mostly non functional, and upon closer examination appear "off". The imitation item is only limited to the size of the bag, and only one item can be made at a time. The magic runs out after a few hours or it is discovered to be an imitation.

Stygium - A peculiar semitransparent, smoky gray metal that can be found in convoluted deposits near graveyards and other areas where the dead are found in large quantities. It is composed of the spiritual residue shed by departed souls as they cast off worldly attachments in the process of their passage to the afterlife. It is very light, comparable to mithril in terms of weight-to-strength ratio, and possesses the unique property of being able to interact with incorporeal spirits of the dead as though they were real. A thin gilding or mesh of stygium is an effective barrier against ghosts, and can be used to proof armor, shields, or even entire rooms (if you have enough) against ghostly attack and passage. Stygium weapons can harm ghosts as though they were corporeal, and ritual implements made of the metal are highly effective for use in spells intended to interact with the dead in some way.

Its semi transparant properties also make it highly valuable to those who do not wish to seem like they are wearing armor like spies, diplomats or even kings. While no stronger than steel, it is almost impossible to see it more than a few feet away and even those close would easily mistake it for a simple weave of fine cloth unless closer examined

The Cards of True Justice

In a distant realm when the societies of the world were young, a god of order and justice made these in an attempt to answer forever the dilemma of how much any good deed is worth in compare to any other. Each card is made of a firm, indestructable stationery, and has two white sides upon which a being who helps, and a being who is being helped, may each sign their name (or, should one be illiterate, make whatever mark they desire.) The helper's side will turn solid black, and the helped person's side will glow faintly red. From then on, at any point so long as the card is in the helper's possession, he may use it to force the helped party to do his bidding. Each use of the card will cause the red side to glow more brightly, until the contract is fulfilled to whatever strange standards that god holds. After that point, the card reverts to its original white setting.

Pray you don't find yourself in too large a debt. The cards' usefulness is dependent on a number of relative, or even arbitrary, factors- a king will care less about you saving one of his farms than the farmer himself will, for instance- but a shrewd man could use these to conquer the world...

The Underdog's Axe

A battered, dented, seemingly useless axe that's blunter than a tree trunk and so rusty merely looking at it could give you tetanus. In combat, however, it's size and sharpness scale to how much stronger your opponent is than you, as long as you're able to hold it and can muster enough strength to wield it.

This leads to some helpful situation (Axe is strong enough to cut through BBEG's magic armor or duel the ancient warrior badass with or whatever) to very unhelpful ones (Axe growing to gargantuan and unusable proportions against a dragon, practically inverting itself when turned against weaklings like rodents, etc.)

I suppose this could work with any weapon, really.

Urist Axeandarm's Flagon
Owned by Urist Axeandarm, a famous Dwarf adventurer.
Since dwarven ale is made from mosses and Cave Fungi, it tastes pretty bad. In the Clanholds it's not so bad; spices can be bought and grown. But when off adventuring, Urist couldn't take spices with him.
So he created the Flagon, which magically flavours any alcoholic beverage poured within it. It also chills it or warms it, however the drink (or the drink it's imitating) tastes best.
The flavors are random, but good. Range from heady, hoppy ales to sweet meads. Each new drink is different. Also, this suppresses the original flavor entirely.
Works on potions and poisons, too, so long as they're mixed with alcohol.
There's no way of telling what the original drink is after it enters the Flagon.
Urist was known to prize the Flagon over most other possessions, and several of his tales describe how his various enemies Steal it from him, only to have him go to hell and back to get it (in one case literally).

The drawback being that, should you find this Flagon somewhere, expect to have a visit from old Axeandarm. He's pretty old now, and a mighty adventurer. Might even be a ghost. Who knows.

The Athame - a curvy, sacrificial knife with a soft plastic handle and a USB cable coming out the back. By plunging the dagger into your hand, you have the ability to enter a computer as a TRON-like world and do Hollywood-style "hacking." Wounds left by the dagger heal in seconds, but leave a scar.

Zworykin's Doorway - A heavily-modified CRT monitor, with a strange diagram scratched into the glass.

Kline's Band - An anti-static strap wristband with the word "Lo" embroidered into it a dozen times. The wristband's cable ends in a USB port. (Or, more likely, an obsolete plug type and a hacked-up USB adapter covered in electrical tape. The problem with computer-based magic items is that they can quickly become incompatible.) As long as the user is wearing this strap, a "?:" drive appears, containing only one .txt file with the user's name. (The file itself is about a kilobyte, and contains an incantation in a long-dead language.) If this file is deleted, whoever's wearing the wristband instantly dies; editing the file results in hideous results. The main use of the Band is teleportation - the file can be attached to an email message, sent via FTP, or encoded in a torrent, and the person encoded in the file will re-appear in front of the computer of whoever opens the file first. (This cannot be used to copy people. As soon as the attachment is opened, all other copies of the file become corrupt and unreadable. God has incredible DRM)

Any two devices plugged into the two ports can communicate with each other and the Adapter itself can be stretched and molded to accommodate nearly any plug. I'm terrible at naming items, anyone else can try if they want.

A necklace that makes the user supernaturally beautiful to the point where they can gain absolute dominion over weak minds. Minions' love for the wearer can get so extreme that death itself cannot stop them from following an order. (Love zombies, baby)

A knife that makes the wielder completely silent. Completely. Unable to speak or even create sounds like footsteps. Certain attacks with the knife can silence enemies, as well.

A lion's hide cloak that can, and will, warn its wearer about backstabs and such. Grants an intimidating roar as an encounter power and allows communication with big cats.

Stolen from Wakfu, but could be neat for someone who hasn't heard it: A sentient map that can show any location in the world but is so stubborn and haughty that it any information needs to be coaxed out with compliments. The map is also a chronic liar.

Some of the other items are a bit mcguffinee

When plugged into a device, the USB re-creates any file deleated or destroyed on that computer. The usb can also warp an adapt to plug into any electronic device, even a destroyed device.

Files deleted from this USB are permeneatly removed. If a file is deleted while the USB is plugged into a device connected to the internet, it sends out a virus that will destroy all copies of this file (If a copy has been heavily altered the virus migh not go after it). The virus adapts and can only be blocked by the best firewalls.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to Wales - a thin pocketbook-sized book, seemingly with less than a hundred pages, with the binding hand-stitched in fiber-optic filament. When the book is opened, it opens to a two-page spread of Wikipedia's front page, in black-and white ink; in fact, the entire book is a constantly up-to-date fork of Wikipedia- plus a few extra pages on magic-, which works without power or internet connectivity. (During the Wikipedia blackout, it showed only completely black pages.)

The Oculus of Reisse - a homemade-looking VR headset. Putting it on shows you an image of real life, but in neon-green wireframe - allowing you to see through walls as if they weren't there. When plugged in to a cellphone with Internet connectivity, if you ask the Pendulum any question, it will point the way towards where you can find information on that question. Perfect Mirrors

Three dozen of these were recovered from an ancient wizard's lab. The size of an adult human's palm with a golden backing, the mirrors reflects all forms of energy that strike its surface, from pure physical force to the most exotic of eldritch energies. However, this does not mean that the wielder is invincible by any stretch - the mirror is nothing like the more common defensive enchantments that reflect hostile spells back upon the attacker.

While the mirrors can be used to reflect hostile spells back upon aggressors, they are very small and must be held at a very precise angle to aim the reflected energies. They also do absolutely nothing to protect the rest of the wielder.

The setting does have ley lines, which were used for telecommunications by the wizards of old. Magic is, inherently, about embedding power into the flow of information; originally by injecting magical energy into runes and sign-language gestures and spoken words, now by doing the same into network packets, coded pulses of light, and synthesized soundwaves. The Ley Lines of old were ancient roads, trodden continuously for centuries, and that flow of news and information gave them power. Nowadays, the same function is served by the current fiber-optic network backbone, as petabytes of information flow back and forth, the arteries of the Internet. And like the Ley Lines of old, they can carry not only information but magical power, and they serve as potent sources of magic for wizards living near them to draw upon.

"The Misenchanted Sword" From the book of the same title.

This sword was enchanted by a great magician in order to help a soilder who was trapped behind enemy lines. Unfortunately the sword was enchanted in the dark and the aging wizard mistook a copper ring for a gold
one in the waning light.

The sword makes the wielder Immortal, but provides no protection against damage or the effects of aging. (In dnd being reduced below -10 may cause unconsciousness at the GM's discretion, but not death.)

The sword is incredibly sharp and practically wields itself, often dragging the wielder along behind it as it cuts a swathe through enemies. (+10?) No force can cause the wielder to put down or sheath the sword until it has killed an enemy.

Once a wielder has unsheathed the sword it is impossible to get rid of. Increasingly unlikely coincidence will force the sword back into the owners possession, up to and including major floods and earthquakes should the owner attempt to bury the sword.

The sword has a limited number of charges, and the sword looses a charge whenever it slays an opponent. Once the sword has depleted it's charges, it will kill it's wielder. (No save allowed.) The next person to pick up and unsheathe the sword gets one less charge then the previous wielder. (97, 96, 95, etc.) Once the sword has depleted all of it's charges, it remains enchanted, slaying anyone who attempts to wield it.

Although many modern technomages still prefer to cast using their wetware - assembling spells in their brain out of magical power and thought, and allowing them to leave their body through drawn runes, spoken commands, or typed messages- wizards since the dawn of magic have used devices to augment their casting. Wands were the first - originally, they were magically-conductive instruments imbued with magical power, and often filled with a high-magic substance to enhance the power of such spells. Much like holding a stylus allows for clearer handwriting than writing on a tablet with a finger, wands allowed for finer control of magic and allowed the amplification of spells. The basic form of the wand or staff survives today- although still filled with highly-magical substances, the outer body is often metallic, for enhanced conductivity - antennae, as could be found on cars or radios, were preferred instead of the wooden-bodied wands of old. The reason? Amplification. Not only does the handle of a modern wand typically contain a magically-active substance, but it often contains electrical circuitry as well. The additional non-magical wattage multiplies the effectiveness of the magical elements, just as casters of old drew additional energy from fire, or tectonic stresses, or lightning-storm energy, or else their own bodies. Heavier-wattage staffs of considerably larger length and diameter can be found, often making use of aluminum frames and composite materials for enhanced lightness. They may even collapsible, and often can be adjusted in length for ideal resonant frequencies.

The rod form is not the only one, however. In fact, a common "wand" today can trace its ancestry directly back to a modification of the Nintendo Power Glove, with its mixture of gestural tracking - perfect for use with signed casting- and an arm keyboard, providing useful input in other functions. Drawing tablets and their styli, laser-pointer devices, and even Wiimotes have been used.

>Key of the Chariot
When held at waist-level and twisted, a blinding light erupts from this plastic and brass key. Once the light clears, an automobile designed at the time of the key's creation will have appeared, the key in the front driver's side keyhole of the vehicle, which is now unlocked. It functions exactly like a car of the given type until the door is re-locked, at which point the vehicle will vanish again in a similar flash.

The vehicle is without any magical properties, suffers from ordinary wear and tear, and must be refueled and maintained. However, when locked, the vehicle effectively does not exist, meaning that no time passes for it or anything stored inside of it. Unfortunately, the key will not turn while living beings are inside the vehicle.

Wizards being what they are, most of these keys call forth luxury vehicles such as sportscars. However, the occasional hybrid, offroad utility vehicle or minivan are not unknown.

>Hubcaps of Flight
These ordinary, dinged-up hubcaps hide a powerful secret - any vehicle with all four of them attached to each wheel will enable the vehicle's driver to mentally control the altitude of their vehicle, flying up or down as fast as the car can drive. The car can further drive through the air as if it were asphalt, without any bumps or potholes. Speed is not changed, and the car may fly as fast as it is driven.

The use of less than all four hubcaps will lead to the death of the driver and everyone in the vehicle, as the magic accelerates it into a wild spin. Landing will require practice.

>Decanter of Endless Fuel
By all appearances a mundane gascan, when poured into any vehicle that runs on the fuel contained within, an endless supply of fuel will pour forth until the vehicle is full. The fuel type is determined at the time the item is made, and is ordinarily gasoline - but cans of diesel and even jet fuel exist. Rumor has it some cans exist without safety measures, and can be poured without a vehicle...

However, just as critical in modern magic is the element of programming - the ability to write programs and encode files that are themselves capable of manipulating magical forces. In this case, although the programmer must themselves have access to reserves of power to imbue their keystrokes with, the processor itself must have some access and ability to manipulate magical force, much as a human caster's wetware can (although on a more primitive scale, comparable to the difference between computer intelligence and human intelligence.) After all, in this case, although the spell may exist in the human mind, it is the computer that must compile, interpret, or run it. This generally involves some modification to the CPU - usually an electrified silver-wire grid with a very basic servitor spell bound to it, encoded with that processor's instruction set- and some kind of magical storage. For desktop machines, this often involves adding in a battery augmented with some magically-active material; for laptops and other mobile devices the processor grid is typically linked into main power and the battery itself is enchanted for thaumic storage.

However, for correctly-designed program spells, they can be run on non-magical platforms as well. In this case, the program is designed such that the spell structure has the ability to store some spark of magic within itself to feed its activation and course through the silicon nerves of a mundane machine. This is how magical programs, although they must be written and compiled on mageware, can run on mundane hardware. Advanced programs may even include some means to sustain themselves by encoding a means of drawing magical energy from the surroundings- perhaps even by draining the life of the user.
>>
>>27978516
Throughout all of this, it must be remembered that magic is deeply, closely interlinked with the nature of thought and mind- and that software is the most primitive form of mind. Exposure to magic tends to have unusual results when applied to machinery - just as the magic flowing through human neural computations creates our astral presence, our "soul" , the essence of human consciousness, machines whose computations also involve magic flowing through their logical structure tend to develop an astral presence as well, a tiny fragment of soul. As magical computers grow older, mundane software on them tends to develop unusual errors, and quirks, and become seemingly sensitive to the emotional state of the user; programs may boot up faster if asked nicely. On mundane hardware exposed to external magic, the influence of these additional data-pushing forces tends to cause corruption and temporary errors; although mechanical objects like guns are not effected, the rigid, unyielding structure of mundane code is not designed for life. During a heavy working of magical power, the effects may be felt on users of mundane devices for miles around. For self-modifying software - genetic algorithms, simple machine-learning routines, even the most primitive forms of AI- the results are even more dramatic; rather than causing errors and corruption, they instead adapt to the influence of their new miniature soul, gaining a rudimentary consciousness and becoming notably more alive. Many technomages who have used a casting device for a long enough period swear that it has emotions, and a life of its own, and even talk to it (and they swear that it listens.)

Some, notably the Devotees of Kurzweil, believe they can create an exponentially-growing Godform of their own given sufficient power, computing hardware, magical energy, and the right seed-AI code. There is a low-level street war between those who believe this hypothetical magical Singularity will save mankind and end death and suffering, and is thus worth killing for in order to immanentize the eschaton, and those who believe it would doom us, and is thus worth killing to prevent.

It is also worth noting that there is a significant element of handicraft and garage-hackery involved in technomagic. There's a reason for this - industrial mass-production actually severely diminishes the strength of the magic involved. However, a machine made by your own hands allows you, personally, to imbue your magic into each piece and component, giving it a much stronger connection to magic and a much greater affinity to your own abilities. Modifying a mass-produced item with your own home-made devices similarly enhances the uniqueness and personal link- this is why nobody mass-produces "mPhones" or such a device. The closest that can be done is selling hand-made kits to modify an iPhone (which people do sell; there's a magic marketplace on Tor where aspiring maker-mages hawk their wares), and mages are still heavily encouraged to customize and personalize their devices.

This is one of the main reasons that magic is still a small-scale garage-tinkerer thing, and not a widely-known industrial-scale deal with Google bundling their phones with a "Teleport" app.

The other reason is that magic is still, largely, secret - although open-source hacker culture thrives within the magical community, wizards have always been insular and secretive. Much like in World of Darkness, or Harry Potter, there's a Masquerade on. (And unlike Harry Potter, the wizards are totally aware of the latest technology and are actually keeping pace with the whole "stay hidden" deal.)
>>
>>27978973
In fact, the element of handicraft even persists in software - code you write yourself, or at least customized yourself from distributed code, will always work better than if you just sent out the source code to Fireball.exe to all your friends. If you want to draw arcane sigils in a computer, drawing them yourself with a mouse or tablet, letting the magic flow directly from your central nervous system into the drawing software will always be more effective than downloading it off the Internet. (Although you can download it and re-draw it yourself, and a mass-distributed sigil will still run.) Most wizards above the script-kiddie level have had to deal with the deeply-irritating experience of building your own font to express assorted arrangements of arcane runes, and have at least a working familiarity with Inkscape. (Vector-drawn sigils and diagrams are more effective than bitmaps, since the vectors directly encode the shape and flow of the diagram's curves, rather than approximating it with a series of dots.)

Note that the power of customization and write-it-yourself means that, for wizards, the absolute most powerful heavy-duty mainstream OS to use is, at least in theory, a custom Linux distro. (Although most wizards prefer Windows or, increasingly, Android. Mac wizards do exist, though - Steve Jobs was a fairly powerful latent sorcerer, and the shiny geas on Mac systems is extremely useful for mind-affecting or compulsion magic. Plus, the iProducts were the first widespread ultraportable computing devices, and a lot of spells were developed for those platforms.)

Of course, there are those who use magic for evil. Moral purity is not exactly a requirement for learning magic. Magically-enhanced cybercrime is certainly not unknown - self-replicating magical viruses, necromantic virtual energy-pumps that can suck out a person's life to feed the owner of the botnet, zombie diagrams, tulpas, Explosive Runes.txt, even BLIT images that can effectively hack human wetware. (Think http://www.infinityplus.co.uk/stories/blit.htm, or D&D spells like Symbol of Death, Symbol of Madness, or Symbol of Pain). (BLIT images are rare - they are typically very power-intensive and computation-heavy to construct, and dangerous to work with- just thinking too hard about the systems and mathematics involves in constructing one can cause damage. The details of constructing a BLIT image are very, very secret and considered Dark Magic by every major magical body. But it's not unknown for the particularly evil to distribute them, or set such a program as their screensaver.)

Wizards must be especially careful about internet security - the laws of Old Magic still apply, and getting your personal information hacked doesn't just mean your attacker knows your SSN - worse, they may also know your True Name. Most wizards go by their usernames and IRC handles instead, or post on their own anonymous Tor-based 'chans. Fortunately, magical security measures - firewalls (occasionally literal), antivirus servitors, and Enochian encryptions - have kept pace with the assorted forms of magical black-hattery.

The Snake Stick

This artifact can actually be created- the recipe is passed down by secretive shaman cults.

First, the caster takes a walking stick. He must then kill 10 snakes and bathe the walking stick in their blood. He must also use two needles, which can be made out of any nonmagic material, and must dip one in the venom of each snake, and the other must prick himself and get his blood on it each time, all 10 times.

Once that is done the needles must be attached to the staff through simple twine and hanging off it or actually set within it. As long as they are together, the creator can willing throw/hold the staff and turn it into a venomous snake. The snake obeys the caster and is slightly more intelligent then the average snake. It is also as long as the staff it was made from and its venom seems to be a cocktail of all the venom that was used to create it, as well as any and all diseases the caster has/had when he pricked himself, if any.

The snake's fangs remain the needles each time, looking the same even in the snake's mouth. The snake can be activated without the needles, but would obviously have no bite. If the snake is killed, it reverts to a broken stick. If the stick is broken, it remains a broken stick and the snake cannot ever be called again.

>Glowsteel Sword

Glowsteel is a special metal mined out only very close to lava. It has absorbed much of the heat and glow of the lava which leaves the steel with a constant warm glow. Requires special scabbards since it will otherwise burn the wearer because it constantly emits heat - this however also means that enemies take burn damage when hit as well. Very popular and extremely valuable in cold regions and it is said that the Gluttonous King once had an entire stove made of this metal to save on money for firewood with the obscene amounts of food he required.

Weapon smiths also make good use of the alloy, making ever glowing swords which eliminates the need for torches and freeing up hands for adventurers raiding ancient tombs. The natural heat from the glowsteel swords mean that they need special scabbards but it also means that their blades sear enemies and that they can be used to brand the hero´s wounds so they arent infected.

Some whisper that ember steel, which glow much like a dimmed version of glowsteel and which is slightly warm to the touch, is just an alloy of glowsteel added to a regular sword to save on money. The Blacksmiths Guild denies this of course and many an accuser of this have been kicked out from blacksmiths around the lands and outright barred from trade at every single blacksmith in the guild

>>27983848
>Sporegrain

Not a material as such since it is a fungus but sometimes the wood dwellers (druids, elves etc) plant these fungi in their wooden weapons. The spores emitted in the bloodstream when hit, infect the brain almost instantly and start wrestle with the "host" for control over the body. If the spores take over control it will head to a cold dark place in the nearest forest and try to bury itself (unless stopped) as a new colony for the fungus. The victims are said to die a slow and painful death as the fungi makes sure that there is a breathing hole and feed nutrients to the host to keep it alive as long as possible while it feeds off his/her muscle tissue to kick start the colony. Infected hosts turn almost feral and about as intelligent as you might expect a fungus to be so they are clearly visible and a few men can normally stop an infected person before it goes too bad. The spores die naturally within a few days if they didn’t get the host buried properly. The host loses all memory of being infected if the spores die but if they get the host buried, they will just leave the brain to colonize the body, leaving the host conscience until it dies.

Apart from using Sporegrain in arrows and spears, these properties also make Sporegrain a very potent terror weapon and some very skilled alchemist herbalists make small glass spheres with sporegrain spores and enough nutrients to keep the fungus alive for a few weeks. These glass spheres are incredibly potent as terror bombs as, when the sphere breaks, the spores will spread in a large radius infecting everyone they touch. Onlookers have described this as if the bomb possessed those it hit with almost demonic strength, making them into wild feral zombies who attack even their oldest friends and after the battle they went to bury themselves.

Ring of noticeability.
Kind of the reverse of a ring of invisibility or items to make the wearer less noticeable.
People wearing this always attract the eye of whoever has him in his view. Even if immensely camouflaged or near invisible (not counting true invisibility, that cancels out this effect) the wearer will immediately be noticed by whoever looks at him or her.
This does not in any way or for mean that people will keep staring, but they will notice you are there, and perhaps give them pause a bit longer than they would have normally.
Popular uses include bards wearing one to attract more people, using someone as a distraction so the rest of the group can do something with less risk of being noticed, and the occasional dicking over the party thief.

I'm not sure that would entirely make sense. The idea is distilling knowledge from a person's meats, using their sensory organs to amplify your ability to put yourself into their memory. Unvisibility Cloak

Woven from the mane of the elusive Silk-Plumed Lion those who wear this cloak will be unnoticeable by sight. The cloak does not actually hide one from vision however, it merely makes it so other's don't notice you. If an image of the wearer is viewed, such as in a photo or a mirror, than the illusion is broken until the user can hide from sight once again.

--La máscara de la bestia oculta--

Made from any normal mask of whatever design you wish.

>Easy enough? WRONG!

1.The mask must be completed within one day of the completion of the monthly lunar cycle.

2. Dipped in virgin sheep blood for 1 day.( This will prepare it for the future resident) Proceed to the next step when dried. Remember to keep the sheep teeth, it's really important.

3.Urinate and Defecate onto the mask. (This will establish that mortal beings are dominate to the mask and it's future inhabitant.)

4. Embark with the Mask, the sheep teeth, some paint(any color will do I prefer white), a 10 year old boy, Wizard capable of summoning a demon (whatever type or strength level is your business not mine), and a quadriplegic tiger to the top of the nearest mountain within 50 miles.

5. Along the way greet people cheerfully as you personally carry the tiger the whole way.

6. Once you reach the base of the mountain, openly challenge the mountain. (This will "awaken" the mountain to try you and your companions)

7. Continue to carry the helpless tiger by yourself and battle the elements that the mountain is bombarding you with. (rain, fire, lightnings, mud slides, random bard encounters, etc.)

8. Now that you've reached the top of the mountain, have the 10 year old boy place 8 teeth of the sheep at 4 different corners, and painting circles around the piles of sheep teeth, and connecting the 4 corners with the paint.

9. Use the Wizard to summon a demon or devil of your choosing(I'm not prejudice). It can be a random demon/devil or a specific one that you have a vendetta against I don't care. Make sure to have the being summoned with the designated area.

10. Put on the mask and proceed to the designated area. Challenge the foe to a contest of strength, and exchange witty banter. Neither of you can leave the designated area without the permission of the 10 year old boy (so make sure you give him a shit ton of candy or that he likes you.)

>--La máscara de la bestia oculta-- Continued.

11. Pin the outsider into submission, and say the incantation "Ravioli Ravioli, get in the Maskioli!"

This mask will now increase the wearer of the mask with immense supernatural power that is determined by the "strength" of the being held within the mask
>Blinding Speed and Agility
>Supernatural Strength
>Increased witty banter
>Other Demonic powers based on GM

The draw back is the mask will lash out with you with psychic blasts as you wear it. Continual use of the mask could cause serious psychological damage resulting in a split personality that believe's that all things must be grappled at all times or else he's not being AN HONORABLE LUCHADORE

After the wearer takes of the mask he will also mutter in a mix of Outsider and Spanish for a few minutes to days depending on the usage of the mask.

Mask can not be worn by women

>after your journey you will know the true reasons for all the random crap you had to go through to get the darn thing. I gave a few insights but let's see what adventurers truly understand

I always thought the secret to magic items was making them a tad less remarkable.

Armor of Metropolis

A set of common clothes that can we worn underneath armor. Can be activated once per day. When used, you are surrounded by a mass amount of illusions (humanoid) that will help you blend by either walking with you, walking in both directions, or just standing around.

Belt of Baghdad

A hempen belt wrapped multiple times around. When unraveled is normal 50ft rope except for it weighs only 3 lbs. On command, it can extended in any direction and remain taught, allowing you to climb it without anchor.

Masquerade

A makeup kit, when applied allowing one to hide their true alignment or intent. Works until washed off or for about 4 hours depending on how much was applied. Plus on whatever check needed.

Fflam’s Blessing

A harp(or whatever) that when played gives you a big boost to lying or convincing others. The harp itself is lightweight and can not deal damage but is almost indestructible. However, the user will slowly go mad, assuming that everyone around her is lying. If used for a very prolonged time, can effect will.

Revnall’s Barnstar

Must be in direct contact with a beast of less than human intellect. Allows one to instantly tame and control said beast. During contact, you can communicate with the beast as though you could understand and speak animal. If the barnstar leaves contact, the beast can longer understand you and goes back to whatever it was doing.

Steele Pickaxe

Takes on the properties of whatever material it touches. Always remains shaped like a pickaxe and can be handled normally without penalty. Always weighs 10lbs and deal 1d6 dmg (or whatever for your game). Deals additional elemental damage if applicable.

I stuck away from making actual weapons. If anyone is interested, I would.

Hmm I especially like the armor of the metropolis.
Dodging people in streets is awesome.
>>
>Orb of Qa'tchem-Ul

These small orbs allow you to capture sufficiently weakened monsters and bind them to your will.
Upon contacting a weak enough creature, they will be pulled into the orb's pocket dimension. If the creature stays in the orb long enough, it becomes totally obedient to your will.
The creature can be called upon any time by hurling the ball and speaking the invocation "Ai Chu'se Yuu (Name)"
For reasons unknown, you can only ever hold 6 orbs with stored creatures in them at any one time.

Spending long enough periods of time around the orb compels you to be the very best.

Seven-Leek Boots.

When viewed with magical detection, this item emits a moderate aura of Conjuration(Teleportation). Putting these boots on gives you an innate feeling that saying "Seven Leagues" and taking a step transports you exactly seven leagues in the direction that you step. However, this information is not entirely valid, as saying the command word instead causes 2d6 leeks to appear in and around the boot, forcing a DC 15 Reflex save or Balance check vs. falling prone.
>>
>Statue of Temporal Sending

A sixteen-inch high bronze statue of an odd creature. Some see it as a wolf, others see an owl, all see it as strange. Once a month, by standing before the statue and speaking a day and time, a message can be sent as if by the spell "Sending" (or your system's equivalent), but back in time, and only to the sender's past self.
Not a macguffin, but definitely a campaign focus, so I openly disqualify myself. Obviously to send a message back in time you either have to drag the whole game back to that point in time and do-over, or the GM is going to have to generate future-messages received in the present, prompting characters to complete the grandfather loop.

Use of the magic words "Mientras tanto" to activate it is also acceptable.
>>
A King's Hand

The desiccated hand of a long dead king, decorated with precious stones and rings worth a small fortune each, however these riches seem practically impossible to remove. It has spectacular abilities. It can heal the sick, it can turn anything to gold, and holding it gives the user unmatched confidence and speaking skills. However, this power comes at a price. The user will start believing they are the king that the hand belonged to (obviously one logical to your setting), first sometimes acting grandiose and a bit strange, but then slowly becoming more and more demanding and pompous, making ridiculous requests on the grounds that they are a king.
>>
The Ring of Binding

When you put this ring on a woman, it makes her your wife.
>>
>>27996187
>confirmed for didn't read OP
>>
Hammer of The Gods
A two handed warhammer that hungers for the blood of all non-humans, it is drawn towards the smell of non-human blood. Obviously paladin weapon.
>>
Pad of Lies

A small horizontal binder topped pad which reveals if the written statement is a lie. It has a creased and wrinkled green cover/backflap and appears to be college ruled paper. There are 73 blank pages left. It will not answer questions just the answer to the statement.

e.g. Message: "I murdered my wife." - Pad: "Truth."
Message: "The code is 9384930." - Pad: "Lie."

Does the Dagger of Impregnation count as joke, pun, worthless or none of those?
>>

Joke item.
>seriously, only a THAT GM would put that in a real game

It's also already a thing on /tg/, rather than OC, so doesn't belong in an item creation thread.

The Lich's phylactery being a backup of their mind and memories. Rules specify it's kept on a hard drive of a certain terabyte limit, that costs a certain amount, but players think they're smart by putting the backup on any mundane flash drive, or on a broken hard drive in the middle of an e-cycling event.

The Boot of Vitharr the Mute

A huge leather boot which appears to be made from old bits and pieces of leather, it is mended whole by powerful magic and engraved with ancient runes. Any attempt to destroy it will fail, and as such The Boot of Vitharr effectively forms an impenetrable shield. The boot is very heavy, and will cause anyone but the strongest of warriors to walk with a limp, unable to run or perform acrobatic maneuvers.

>if you eat it, shortly after...
means, if you eat it at any time, then, after your death...
>if you eat it shortly after...
means, if you eat it after you died then you...
