Previously on Gundam X Quest:
>David acquires funding for, and begins production on the mobile suits that would make up the bulk of his hastily named organization.
>Miles comes to David with grave news; Ennil El has gone missing, having left Saint's Island the night before their departure.
>After wasting a couple of days repairing the black GX, David opts to convert the machine into a Bit MS, rather than waste more time dismantling it to rebuild a GX Bit.

The crew of the Freeden happened upon the distress call of a derelict ship, which had apparently been beset upon by Orcs and had a hole blown in the side of the boat.

While their story was convincing, and they looked, acted, and even -smelled- convincing, it was clear to the Newtype senses of you, Tiffa, Kai, and even the fading powers of Lucille Lilliant, that these fishermen were not all that they appeared to be...
>>
"Again, I can't tell you just how much of a help you've all been..."

You fight the urge to groan. Even with the combined precognitive powers of you, Tiffa, and even the fading powers of Lucille telling you that this "fisherman" and his crew were not all that they appeared to be, on the off chance that they were New UNE Soldiers, and that information could be extracted from them.

You, along with Jamil the Frost brothers, and the rest of the Freeden's pilots, including Garrod, wait patiently in the "Guest Room" that Sala and Toniya are leading them to, holding a handgun in your right. Hopefully, they committed entirely to this act of theirs and had no weapons on them to retaliate...

You hear the door open, and Sala directed the crew inside, shoving one of them in when they prove to be a little... rough with her, and closing the door. you and the others take that as your cue to step forward, guns ready.

"Drop your weapons and surrender." you state bluntly, frowning.

"H-hey, what's going on here? I have my rights, you know!" stammers out the "fisherman".

"Drop the act." interject's Jamil, stepping forward. "We know you're with the Federation. Now drop your weapons."

Begrudgingly, the four of them do so, four Uzis clattering to the floor.

"How?" mutters the who appeared to be the leader, a rather burly, violet haired man with a fair bit of stubble. "How did they figure it out?"

You choose not to answer, instead motioning for the others to cuff the soldiers. Better safe than sorry, after all.

Once the last of them were in cuffs, you heard the sound of footsteps rapidly approaching.

"There's trouble!" gasps out Tiffa, clinging to the doorframe. "Enemies are coming!"

You're about to ask what she means, when the ship begins to rock violently back and forth. So these guys were just bait, then? Shit!

You're about to rush to the hangar, when you're shoved aside by... the fisherman?! What in the Christ?! You're about to question how they got out fo the cuffs, when you spot them, along with four lockpicks, on the floor.

What do you do?

We let them run away? Shoot their limbs. Seriously, we're not going to play nice and let them act as decoys. Just shoot to wound/incapacitate. The doctor can handle them then.

Get Jamil to lock down parts of the ship so they can't run around.

Either way, I'd like it if we shoot to wound/incapacitate like I said in the post. This way, we can interrogate them. It also makes the chase scene alot less drawn out. You can shoot and tell them to freeze, then shoot to wound or even kill if they keep going. I think it is a bit silly they just ran off without us shooting, though.

When we're one of the heaviest hitters on board, we can't waste time chasing down some escaping prisoners. We need to get out there.

You curse, running after them, Jamil and Kai following closely behind you.

You eventually follow the quartet to one of the ship's exits, finding that they'd all escaped saved for their commanding officer, the violet-haired man.

"Hold it right there." you say. "Don't move or we'll be forced to shoot."

The man sighs and lifts his arms above his head as he turns around.

"Now then..." says Jamil, stepping forward. "We have some questions for you. What is the Federation planning? Why are they trying to revive the UNE, after all these years, when the war is already over?"

The man chuckles, and shrugs, despite the situation he was in.

"Hell if I know. I'm just a simple soldier; the higher ups don't tell me shit."

He then slowly reach down to a pocket, and pulls out a... piece of candy? Who knew the guy had a sweet tooth?

"There are two good things about me; it's what my dead wife would always tell me..." he says, popping the candy into his mouth. "I'm not an alcoholic, and I'm not a sore loser in the least."

"Though..." he continues, his smile slowly fading. "There are some bad things about me as well. That is to say; I'm a bit of a liar."

Before anyone can ask what he means, he pulls out a grenade form his back pocket, and holds it aloft, the pin already removed.

"No! You have to live!"

Tiffa pushes past you and Jamil, wrapping herself around the man.

"W-what? What are you doing?!" he asks, trying to pull Tiffa off of him. Unfortunately for him, that girl had a vice-like grip. "Let go!"

"No! You must live!" she says again, looking at the man, who is dumbstruck,

"Tiffa, get the hell away from him, now!" shouts Jamil, hesitating to step forward. one wrong move and they'd all die.

"No, I won't!"

"You... you're serious..." gasps the man, whose grip on the grenade loosens, causing it to clatter to the floor. Jamil is the quickest out of everyone in the room, and shoves the man aside, throwing the grenade outside before it has a chance to detonate.

(Cont'd.)
>>
As the man lay there on his side, he looks up at Tiffa, grasping the side of his head.

"Why... why won't you let me die?"

"Because you are a kind person." she says, simply.

"That's nice and all," you interject, frowning. "But we're kind of in the MIDDLE OF A CRISIS here!"

"David is right. For now, come with us quietly." Jamil turns to you, and nods. "David, join the others, and fend off the Federation's forces."

You nod, and within short order, you manage to launch in the Hyper-Spec, despite the chaos.

>Failure: Garrod, Roybea

Thankful that your leg-mounted missiles FINALLY work, you fire off a volley of four of them, watching as one impacts one of the new MS dead in the center of the chest, while another blows off an arm. The rest miss entirely, but they served their purpose; you wanted them to get out of formation, so you could corral them with vulcan fire, and pick them off with a few shots from your beam rifle. You manage to down one of them, and Witz shoots down two mobile suits with both of his shoulder mounted missiles.

Roybea, for his part, does his best to fend off the enemy from attacking the Freeden, but it's all he can do to keep them from attacking; not one round has hit them so far, and Garrod is having similar luck, finding it difficult to outmaneuver these clearly aerial combat-oriented machines.

>Continue attacking. Roll 1d20+2, and please specify how. DC is 16.

>>
Rolled 7 + 2

>>27979656
This time use the shoulder missiles to push the enemy MS into Roybea's arc of fire. The enemy MS will then be too busy and we can hit them with shots from our beam rifle.
>>
Rolled 16 + 2

>>27979656
If we have those shoulder mounted machine cannons installed, we should use them to suppress the enemy MS, and keep hammering them with beam rifle fire.

As much as I'd like to even the odds, I'd really rather not risk losing another G-Bit out on open waters. Bad things happen out in the ocean in this quest, after all.
>>
Rolled 14 + 2

>>27979656
>Continue attacking. Roll 1d20+2, and please specify how. DC is 16.

Fire our beam rifle & vulcans. If they dodge a beam shot, we already have the vulcans firing in that direction. Same with the inverse.
>>
Alright, just to make sure, we're all in favor of continuing to corral the enemy MS, right? There's two posts with similar suggestions and one that;s different; I want us to be on the same page here.
>>
>>27979962
Yeah. Keep them contained and don't give them a chance to go after the Freeden.

>Success: You, Garrod
>Failure: Witz (Near Miss), Roybea

You unfold the machine cannons from their compartments in your Mobile Suit's shoulders, and open fire on the enemy MS, drawing them into Garrod's firing range, and before they can dodge or move out of the way, Garrod opens fire with a shot from the Beam Harmonica cannon, obliterating three in one shot.

WItz and Roybea, unfortunately, are unable to take down more of these bastards, and although WItz can keep up with them, they seem to be wising up to his tricks.

Roybea is faring little better than he was, and much to his horror, one of the mobile suits flies past and hovers in front of the Freeden's bridge... only to have its midsection crushed by Olba, who lets the machine crumble into a heap on the Freeden's loading dock. Shagia's Virsago lets loose a blast from its Megasonic Gun, immolating another MS.

>Enemy MS count: 5

With their forces reduced by 2/3rds, the remaining Mobile Suits retreat, and one of them dives down close to the water, and scoops up what looks like-- wait, it IS the 3 soldiers that were with the other guy aboard the ship!

>Let them go for now; It's not as if they can put up much of a fight now, anyway.

>>
>>27989594
It was 2 or 3 threads ago I think

I think the commander head would be best as a high-performance variant.

The Hammerhead is the aqua one? Probably some kind of fusion of an SRA MS and the Z'Gok
>>
>>27989646
Isn't that technically what commander variants are, though? Higher performance variants of the original they were based off of, that are differentiated by something that marks them as a commander variant? the Commander Type Zakus didn't look all that much different from the regular ones, and yet they're apparently much better than the standard ones, at least until stuff like the Dom started being rolled out.
>>

Kind of. I meant more that they wouldn't be used for squad commanders of grunts so they know who to shoot at.

Aces who'd customize their MS's scheme or MS platoons of veterans are another story.

It's been a few days since your latest run-in with the New UNE's forces. Questioning the soldier you've captured, who you've learned his name is Katokk Alsamille, has proved to be fruitless. The only thing you've learned, is that he hates Jamil's, and by extension, every Newtype's guts, thus making your attempts at getting any useful information out of him useless.

For the past few days, Jamil has had Garrod and Witz doing recon, in the event that the New UNE were to attack again.

Meanwhile, you were stuck trying to find a way to busy yourself while Garrod and Witz were doing their rounds for today.

>>
>>27995031

>>
Alright then, writing.

>Don't be surprised if responses are slow; having dinner atm.
>>
You decide to call up a few of your contacts, to see if they've heard anything through the grapevine, both about anything regarding the New UNE, and the whereabouts of Ennil El. Although nothing's come up on the latter, rumors of a large force comprised of flight-capable mobile suits no one has seen before subjugating Africa have been circulating. You curse; of course they wouldn't just sit idly by, twiddling their thumbs.Hopefully, by stealing or destroying the Double X, it would deal a major blow to the enemy's morale.

You call up Lumark Kauto, who, last you heard, was still on Saint's Island. According to him, not only had your crew been assembled, but a couple of them, who seemed to know a thing or two about Mobile Suit piloting had been field testing some of the new Crusaders that had recently been rolled out. So far, there were about... four produced so far, but you hoped that at some point, that number would increase exponentially as your organization gained steam.

So, production was going smoothly; that was a relief; a few Crusaders were already rolled out and being tested, The Hammerheads were nearing completion, and the Peregrine's transformation process was being fine-tuned before production would begin. That was VERY good news.

You decide to busy yourself by going to the medical wing, in the hopes that perhaps Techcs had something for you to do.

Knocking on the door, you wait until Techcs calls for you to come in.

"So, David... Can I ask what brings you here?"

"Yeah..." you begin, scratching the back of your head. "You need anything done at the moment? I'm not too busy at the moment, and I need to do something to distract myself."

"Hmm... in that case, could you deliver Lucille's medication for me?"

"Medication?" you ask, tilting your head a bit. "Why would she need medication?"

"It's due to her condition." replied Techcs, as if the subject was a normal, everyday illness.

(Cont'd.)
>>
"The parts of her brain that allows her to use the special abilities exclusive to Newtypes are slowly dying. While her life is in no immediate danger, it puts the afflicted under great stress. These pills help suppress the pain and calm her down."

"Wait..." you say, holding up a hand. "If that's the case, why doesn't Jamil take medication? I thought they had similar conditions?"

"Similar, but not the same." replies Techcs, pushing the his glasses. "Jamil's loss of his Newtype powers was due to massive trauma and mental strain. If I had to come up with a comparison... think of the part of their brains that grant them their powers as a balloon. In Jamil's case, it's as if that balloon popped; all of his powers, gone in an instant; leaving blinding and near-crippling pain in its wake. With Lucille, it's as though air is slowly being let out of that balloon. what makes her a Newtype is in a sense, leaking out of her. Until her powers completely disappear, she'll need to take medication to control her bouts of mental and physical pain. Like Jamil, she'll be able to live a normal life as a normal human being, but until then, she has to endure many more months of pain."

You swallow the lump that had been forming in your throat, and take the paper cup with Lucille's pills in them from Techcs.

"I... I had no idea. She must be going through absolute hell right now." you say, chewing on your lower lip.

"Possibly." replies Techcs, sipping from a cup of coffee. "But she has everyone aboard the Freeden, including Jamil, by her side in her time of need. One must go through hell to find Paradise, after all."

"That's a rather... morose way of putting things in perspective." you say, smirking.

"Perhaps it is." replies Techcs, taking another sip of coffee. "Shouldn't you be going?"

"Ah, yeah."

You give the doctor a nod as you leave, walking through the hall until you come up to the room Lucille is in. You give her the meds, staying to make sure she swallows it all.

(Cont'd.)
>>
With that taken care of, you wonder what you should do next.

It's been long enough now that both Garrod and Witz should be returning from their rounds. You give Lucille your regards, and head down to the hangar, and right on schedule, Witz and Garrod are returning, and it looks like the Divider Gundam is carrying something... Even before garrod touches down, you can tell something's wrong as he talks through the Gundam's loudspeaker.

"Someone get a stretcher! Hurry!"

With those five words, the hangar erupts into chaos, and you struggle just who it was that needed medical attention, nearly freezing in place when you see Ennil El being rushed to the medical bay.

What could have wrecked her shit this time? Gadeels? Those are the only New UNE Mobile Suits I can think of that could keep up with the Esperansa, since Shagia and Olba are on our side.
>>
>>27996772
Makes the most sense; the Balients are good, but they're not -quite- Gundam good, and in canon, the Esperansa is fast as fucking hell. Prior to its upgrade into the Airmaster Burst, the Gadeel could fly fucking CIRCLES around the Airmaster, which is a Gundam BUILT for aerial combat, so it's the likeliest candidate.
>>
>>27996772
Could have been an ambush scenario. Alternatively she could have simply been boxed in by Balients or Daughtress fliers. We know that Zonder Etapa has a minimum of 5 Balients and 12 Daughtress Flyers (The survivors of our previous engagements).
>>
>>27996911
Of course, in canon, they got even more Balients, so we could be facing anywhere from 5 to god-knows-how-many of them when we reach Zonder Epta.

You rush after Ennil, who is being carted to the medical bay as fast as possible.

"Ennil! Ennil! Oh god, what happened... Ennil!"

As you run alongside the gurney, Ennil opens her eyes, and lets out this pitiful sounding squeak as she tries to turn her head.

"David..."

"Easy, now." you say, placing a hand on her head. "You're gonna be okay; Techcs will do what he can to fix you up, good as new."

"David... I saw... I saw a... Gundam..." she croaks out, just before she slips into unconsciousness.

Your pace slows, until you grind to a halt in the middle of the hallway, watching as Ennil is led past a corner.

"A Gundam...?"

Then the pieces fall into place. She saw a Gundam. Someone tried to have her killed because of that. You and the others were on your way to Zonder Epta, where the Federation was building the Gundam Double X.

The Federation. They had to be the ones that attacked and almost killed her. They HAD to be.

You immediately make your way to what was left of the cockpit of Ennil's machine, presumably the one Kauto had sold her, and hooked it up to an external generator. It took about a half hour, but you managed to pull up the flight data of the "Esperansa". It showed her embarking on a path remarkably similar to the one the Freeden had been on, save for a few detours to some islands that dotted the map. She must have thought that Zonder Epta was uninhabited, and tried to escaped when she found out when it wasn't.

Kauto's machines were top notch, and the idea that there was a Federation machine capable of taking one down... you had to find out what kind of machine it was.

You find Garrod and Witz in the rec room, sitting on the couch.

"Did either of you see what it was that attacked her?" you ask, your mouth set in a thin line.

"Yeah, we did." replies Garrod.

"It was some kind of mobile armor. Had what looked like a Daughtress head. Might've been a new Federation model, like that MS we dismantled... the Balient, or whatever it was called." added Witz, looking rather upset with himself. "I haven't seen a machine like that in all of my life; it was way faster than my Airmaster, and neither of us could hit the damn thing. We tried to stop it, but..."

"It's okay." you say, sighing. "You did what you could; that's all I could ask for."

"Boss..." says Garrod, sitting up, looking at you with concern. "Are you gonna be okay? You look like you're really on edge..."

"No Garrod... I don't think I will be." you say, chewing on your lower lip. "Someone I care about got hurt, and I couldn't do a damn thing about it. If either of you were in my place, I doubt you'd be all sunshine and rainbows yourselves."

"Yeah... you have a point." admits Garrod. "If Tiffa ever got hurt, I... I dunno what I'd do,, but I know I'd do SOMETHING..."

"Yeah..." you say. "I know exactly what you mean, Garrod."

"You have something in mind?" asks Witz, leaning forward.

We hit them hard, and we hit them fast. We bust out the big guns and unleash hell.

The Belphegor's Sonic Smasher Cannons, the Virsago's Megasonic Gun, the Divider Gundam's Beam Harmonica, and six heaping helpings of SATELLITE CANNON FIRE.

By the time we're done, Zonder Epta should be nothing but a charred rock.

"Yeah. I have a plan, all right." you say, smiling. It wasn't a friendly smile, or a smirk; rather, this smile sent shivers up the spines of Garrod and Witz, and for a second, it was as if the temperature in the room dropped ten degrees.

You ask Jamil to hold a meeting to discuss a plan of attack. At the pace the Freeden was at now, it would reach Zonder Epta by nightfall, so you all had to work fast.

There would be at least twelve Daughtress Flyers and five Balients, considering those were as many survivors that you had left during both encounters with the New UNE. There would undoubtedly be more, plus there was also the possibility of encountering that Mobile Armor that could take down the Esperansa. The one that could outfly a Gundam called the AIRMASTER, for God's sake.

How will you do this, David?

You have your plan of attack; you, in your GX Hyper-Spec, along with your Bit Mobile Suits, along with Shagia, Olba, and Kai in their respective Mobile Suits would take on the enemy mobile suits, while Witz, Roybea, and Garrod would hang back and protect the Freeden.

If things went south, you would use the Satellite Cannons equipped to all of your mobile suits as your ace in the hole.

You sit, watching as the Divider, Airmaster, Belphegor, as well as both the Virsago and Ashtaron launch before you. The Hyper-Spec hunkers down, and the countdown to launch begins.

If it's still in one piece, sure. With the way things are going, we just might end up torching the place.
>>
>>27998955
I think we should steal it. They're probably going to build a new one anyway, unless all the data is ONLY on that island and we destroy it.
>>
>>27999083
It's probably how it was in canon, anyway. After Garrod obliterated the Island with the Double X's Twin Satellite Cannon, there was never another Gundam Double X made afterwards, so it's safe to assume that all of the DX's data is located there.
>>
I just thought of something; in the event that we get captured/take over Zonder Epta/whatever, what if we stole the plans and data for the Double X and made more, or at least a Mobile Suit based off of it?

Nah, not the DX. We'll keep the juiciest tech to ourselves, because after this, we're officially at war. Everything else we steal - blueprints, suits, maps, plans - is fair game and we'll be selling it to the highest bidder after sharing it with our allies.

Rolled 1

I've been thinking about the ESTO for a bit and realized we never went into any detail about how it works, so I figured I'd take a shot at the broad strokes.

Legislative: The Chamber. Each country gets a some delegates and they vote on stuff like whether a new country should get in or if we should launch a preemptive attack on the SRA because of that huge Colony laser they probably plan to use on us. Honestly, we probably won't deal with these people unless they are doing something stupid.

Executive: The Council. Selected by the legislature, these are the guys who we might actually have to deal with for things like approving major offensives or whatever else we'd need political approval for.

Military:
National Armies: Makes up the bulk of the ESTO. Trained and equipped by member nations, they'll obviously vary in quality and for the most part these guys already exist, though most of them will probably upgrade to our designs over time if they can.

Alliance Military: Though payed and for and maned by individual countries, these forces are under alliance command, use alliance uniforms and organizational structures and are equipped with alliance equipment (as much as possible).
>[1/2]
>>
>>28006961
>let that be a lesson, never leave on dice

Independent Companies: Irregular units with broad desecration in their activities and lax organizational structures. Their equipment, training and tactics vary wildly between units and they make frequent use of salvaged or prototype Mobile Suits. At least initially these guys are basically going to be vulture crews we've recruited with the promise of a good cause, good pay, excellent salvage opportunities, and access to prototype or limited production MS to the groups that do well. The head of this organization will be Jamil Neate, commander of the 1st Independent Company with us as his second in command. Because of its organization we will be able to recruit vulture crews as intact units well be able to build up the strength of this part of our organization rapidly.
Current units:1st independent company (Us)
Potential recruits: Rosa Intenso's vulture group, Grits Joe's vulture group, Rosso Aramant's vulture group, Zakott Dattonel's Vulture group.

This structure is designed to be both easy to understand and keep track of, with the military having three separate "tiers" with generally escalating experience and equipment and decreasing size and the political section going into no more detail than necessary. I also tried to take advantage of already existing forces to let us grow in size quickly. Furthermore, I deliberately put us in a position of significant power while keeping us as far away from paperwork or politics as possible.

With you waiting on the Satellite System uplink, you were a sitting duck; you couldn't attack, or defend, as you had to remain in place for the uplink to be successful, and receive the microwave energy.

Wasn't suggesting it become one. Note how my suggestion of what the legislature would do is talk about whether people get to join the club, not setting tax policy. Also, we can't be Nato because we don't have a USA type superpower to make decisions by default.

Well, that sounds good. But I'm not sure how I feel about there being an alliance military. On one hand, it's giving an alliance it's own separate military force. On the other hand, we're going to allow irregular forces join us. And, I dont know the specifics of NATO but it doesn't just assume you have a superpower in it, when you look at the basic structure.

You curse, feeling your connection with two of your GX Bits end abruptly as a group of Balients hammer them with beam rifle fire at the torso, where the equipment that allowed it to function with the Flash System was located. You cringe, watching the two of them explode. In response, Kai let loose with a blast from the Belphegor's Sonic Smasher Cannons, obliterating the group of five Mobile Suits, as well as pushing a few of them into your firing range in the process. Your two remaining GX Bits perform admirably, corralling a number of Balients into your line of fire, and shooting down one MS each.

>Enemy MS count: 40 --> 33

While your Bit Gundam X managed to corral a number of Balients, it failed to shoot down and of the enemy Mobile Suits, and both Frost brothers were faring no better.

You curse again, looking at the progress meter; the connection had been made, but you were only 25% charged. Would that be enough?

It's still a roll.

OP, can we get the ability to negate up to 2, maybe three 1s? Because each time we roll a d20 5 times, we have about a 23% chance to crit fail.

Threads tend to average 2-4 critfails per thread with the basic "5#1d20, take highest" system.

I'm bringing this up because we just lost say, two very valuable and rare GX Bits to a critfail. We're probably going to lose them all this or next battle.

>Critical Success: Kai
>Success: Olba, Bit Gundam X, GX Bit x 2
>Failure: Shagia

Your eyes watch as the meter steadily climbs higher. 30%... 35%... 40%...

Shagia is forced to pull back, due to Balients attempting to overwhelm him; he'd been attempting to fire the Megasonic Gun, but thanks to Olba's timely intervention, had managed to fend off his brother's pursuers, and shoot down two of them. Kai caught four of them with his Sonic Smasher Cannons, immolating the Balients. all of your Bit Mobile Suits managed to shoot down one MS each, and corralled what was left into your firing range.

>Enemy MS Count: 33 --> 27

A chime alerts you to the Hyper Satellite Cannon's progress; it was finally done charging, and the entire MS was alight with the Satellite System's Microwave energy. You smirk; the situation had done a complete 180, and all of the cards were in your hands.

"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!"

... Or not.

Your attention is drawn to Zonder Epya itself, where you see the Mobile Suit Ennil had nearly died seeing; the GX-9901 Gundam Double X. Its two Satellite Cannons were deployed, and a Satellite System uplink established. Shit, not good...

"Gundam pilots of the Freeden, and the deserters, Shagia and Olba Frost... we will not sit idly by while you decimate our forces and threaten the New Federation's operations. Stand down and surrender unconditionally, or prepare for destruction at the hands of the Federation's newest model, the Gundam Double X."

"Impossible..." says Olba, his eyes widening. "The DX's Satellite Cannons shouldn't have become operational within the timeframe..."

"Even so, brother; the Freeden is well outside of the Double X's projected firing range." replied Shagia, in an attempt to calm his brother.

"Er, about that..."

You blink turning your attention towards the Freeden, and to Garrod who had spoken up.

(Cont'd.)
>>
To everyone's surprise, the Freeden was indeed moving into range!

"What the hell?" you croak out. "Garrod, I thought the Freeden was supposed to stay as far away from Zonder Epta as possible until the moon set?"

"It was... But that bastard Katokk took over the bridge; somehow he escaped confinement he's got a gun to Jamil's head." spits out Witz, sounding rather pissed off, even for him.

"You have three minutes to surrender." comes the voice of a man you recognize to be Colonel Aimzat from way before the Freeden had arrived at Saint's Island. "Should you fail to comply we will open fire."

Shit, what will you do?

Huh. I thought they wouldn't let Aimzat command anything after we defeated his forces back then.

>Like Olba said, the Satellite Cannons shouldn't be operational; call Aimzat's bluff.
Considering how much we've fucked with canon in our favor, I wouldn't be surprised if our fuckery's come back to bite us in the ass, and the DX is fully operational. Nonetheless, it's a chance I'm willing to take.

That, and I'd kind of like to see a Satellite Cannon uel happen. Just because.

are we in the Double X's line of fire? if so move so that he can't target both us and the Freeden. Then take aim and say "This is David West, Pilot of the Gundam X hyper-spec. I personally doubt that suit is ready. Even if it is, you have a choice, fire at the Freeden and take the return shot of my Hyper Spec Satellite canon, or shoot at me and see which of us has the better engineers. Of course, that will leave the Double X wide open to the rest of our mobile suits, but you can't have everything."
>>
>>28013299
I don't think we are, but I don't want to risk firing on them, only for them to fire on the Freeden if the DX is really completed. I'd rather be the one thing standing between the Freeden and its imminent demise.
>>
>>28012618
>For every nat 1 rolled, a nat 20 can negate it

Yes.

Mind you, I only counted the first set of crits for multiple roll votes. And I didn't count GunDAMN rolls, just PC. Though GunDAMN also got several crits, I'm positive they also tended to favor critfails.
T1: 1 Critpass, 1 Critfail
T2: 2 Critpass, 0 Critfail
T3: 3 Critpass, 1 Critfail
T4: 2 Critpass, 1 Critfail
T5: 1 Critpass, 5 Critfail
T6: 4 Critpass, 6 Critfail
T7: 0 Critpass, 3 Critfail
T8: 2 Critpass, 0 Critfail
T9: 0 Critpass, 1 Critfail
Total: 15 Critpass, 18 Critfail

I also did this with Persona Quest. In Persona Quest & Gundam X Quest (both which use the 5#1d20, take highest system), Critfails are favored over Critpasses by 1/6th, or about 16.66%. P & GX Quest don't have large samples, but I don't think it's a coincidence they both have the exact same margin of critfail over critpass. That's a significant number.

This, combined with the 22.63% of a critfail, or 40.95% chance of either crit (though with TGdice, you can see it's not an even split). I don't know if this will convince you to let us negate any 1s, but it's clear that:
1. Critchance is very, very high. You only have a roughly 60% chance to pass or fail, and a 23% chance of critfail. Compared to say, 1d20 where it's 5% to get a critfail.
2. /tg/dice favor critical failures over critical passes by about 17%.

He was locked in a room in canon, and apparently, the crew, in canon forgot to check his pockets, or they did, but thought that all he had on him was candy, when in reality, he had some plastic explosives on him that looked like tiny chocolate bars. Some poor sap got knocked the fuck out, and that's how he got a gun with which to capture the bridge with.

This was bullshit, pure and simple. It was bullshit how ONE MAN managed to escape imprisonment aboard the Freeden, acquired a firearm of some sort, HIJACKED THE SHIP, and brought it into the range of a mobile suit whose Satellite Cannons HAD to be nonfunctional.

This all reeked of bullshit.

"I'm sorry, but I'll have to call your bluff, Aimzat. You're as bad at that as you are beating a single ship like ours." you say, ice in your tone. "There is no way that machine is fully operational; your former lackeys said so themselves."

"Care to put your money where your mouth is, then?"

"Yeah, I think I will."

You fly down, directly in the path of the Double X's Twin Satellite Cannons, and pull the trigger on your Hyper Satellite Cannon. Due to the brightness of the energy blast, you failed to notice a light emitting from the muzzles of the DX's own Satellite Cannons, nor did you hear the cries of your comrades as you unleashed hell.

You grunt as you feel the Hyper-Spec being pushed back, and realize that you've made a mistake. The Double X was not only MATCHING the Hyper-Spec in firepower, but it was actually pushing it BACK.

Gritting your teeth, you pour everything the GX can give into the thrusters. You can hear everyone calling your name. You know you should be scared, and yet...

"Garrod... you there?"

"Y-yeah, Boss. I am." Poor kid; he sounds like he's about to cry. You couldn't tell if he was; your screen was a mess of static.

"You take good care of Tiffa, you hear? Protect her and the Freeden with everything you have, okay?"

"BOSS!"

Garrod is cut off by a hiss of static; the radio's dead. God it was hot; unbearably so. But still, you pressed on, despite the heat and the Hyper-Spec's protests, you pressed on. Your friends won't die, not today. You'd bet your life on it.

Suddenly, everything goes white as the collision of microwave energy detonates.

Pain. Nothing but a dull, constant pain... and incessant beeping.

Wait...

You instantly regret opening your eyes, as a bright white light greets them. While your eyes adjust to the sudden brightness, and your strange surroundings, your mind replays your most recent memory. You remember firing on the Double X, and to your surprise, it had fired back, and actually overpowered your Mobile Suit. You remember an explosion... an explosion?!

"Oh shit!" you exclaim, moving to get out of the bed you were in, and... falling flat on your face.

"Ow... okay, that hurt. I can't be dead if that actually hurt." you mutter, picking yourself off of the floor and dusting yourself off.

"Finally awake, I see."

You resist the urge to jump out of your skin, and turn around to see...

"Techcs?" you say, tilting your head. "What the heck is going on? Where are we? Last I remember, I, well... I -thought- I blew up..."

"Close, but fortunately, no cigar." he replies, smiling. "The clash between two large sources of microwave energy caused a massive explosion, and although everyone on board the Freeden escaped unharmed, your Mobile Suit was heavily damaged, and you didn't exactly come out of it unscathed either. Kid and Kauto have been working for the past couple of months getting your Gundam back in working order."

"I'm just glad everyone's oka-- TWO MONTHS?!" you repeat, flabbergasted. "I've been out of commission for that long?"

Techcs nods, much to your chagrin. So much for your hopes of it being an elaborate prank.

"So... I've been out of commission for two months... What's happened since then?"

"Well, after Garrod stole the Double X and eliminated the New UNE's General Staff Office's reinforcements, we took Zonder Epta, which we're in now, and made it the main base of operations for the organization you've effectively helped to found, despite your inaction, the Earth Sphere Treaty Organization."

"Earth Sphere what now? What about--" you pause, and shake your head. "Nevermind; that's a better name anyway. What else has happened?"

"Well..." begins Techcs, rubbing his chin. "We've earned the support of the Republic of Estard, as well as the Kingdom of Northernbell, and the Democratic Republic of Gastar following the success of pushing back the New UNE's forces and thwarting their attempts at subjugating Asia. With the combined power of the Gundams aboard the Freeden, along with assistance from Saint's Island's Mobile Suit forces, we came out relatively unscathed."

"That's... that's amazing!" you exclaim. "The Crusaders were really that effective, then?"

"Mmhmm." replies Techcs, nodding. " After our victory in Asia, the Freeden, and everyone aboard has returned here for repairs."

"So that explains why you're here, and why I don't recognize this room... I take it I'm in Zonder Epta's medical bay?"

"Got it in one." says Techcs, smirking. "Still, I must say, it's a miracle you came out of that as well as you did. There... -has- been some scarring, but in a physical and mental sense, you're A-OK."

"Scarring?" you repeat, curiosity overtaking you as Techcs hands you a mirror. You hold a hand up to yor face, eyes widening as your reflection does the same.

"I can understand if you're shocked; the facial burns were severe, and modern medical science, as well as my limited resources, were only able to do so much." says Techs, placing a hand on your shoulder. "Will you be alright, David?"

"Alright?" you say, looking at him. "Will I be alright?"

You sputter at Garrod's... coarse language, and struggle to maintain your composure.

"What?"

"N-nothing." you say, waving off any of Garrod's concerns. "Er... where is Ennil, anyway?"

"She's out instructing the trainees. Ever since the ESTO's been publicly announced, we've had people from Estard, Gastar, and Northernbell joining up, as well as some people from Fort Severn and Belgrass back in America." replies Garrod.

"A lot of them don't know jack about piloting, so Ennil's one of the few people who's volunteered to instruct our new recruits on Mobile Suit piloting. We're already fielding Crusaders, Hammerheads, and a handful of Peregrines, but we're also fielding older models, and even captured NUNE Suits."

"So, Boss... want to head to the training yard? We could set you up in one of the new models, or if you want, I could see about getting the Hyper-Spec out of storage. I imagine you're eager to get in the pilot's seat again, huh?."

"You read my mind, kiddo." you say, grinning.

You pause; what WOULD you pilot, anyway? One of the ESTO's new models? A Balient? Or would you rather get reacquainted with an old friend?

(Cont'd.)

Let's show off a little. What better MS to do it in than a motherfuckin' GUNDAM?

Test pilot time!
I'm sure the ESTO forces already got good data duing their battles using the Crusader.
Also, time to pull of a Graham Special!

But the Peregrine's designed for mid-flight transformation; in terms of looks, it's somewhere between the Airmaster and the Taurus.

Now if its design was based off of the Flag, it'd be another story...

Ennil. Maybe Jamil.

IIRC, that maneuver wasn't recommended with the Flag too, but Graham was just a crazy enough guy to pull it off.
Dave will probably get reprimanded if he tries to attempt that though, but since it seems like the Hyper-Spec is gonna get taken for a spin, there's not much point.

>>28031844
Jamil, then Ennil. In order of priority.
>>
"Why don't we take the Hyper-Spec out of storage? I'd like to break it in a little, now that it's been given a complete repair." you say, smiling.

"Sounds like a plan, Boss." replies Garrod.

---

You're eventually led to a large door, which is guarded by a pair of men in uniform, holding assault rifles. You blink as they salute, and continue blinking as Garrod returns the salute.

"We have uniforms?" you ask. Garrod can only give you a laugh that seems to say "I'll explain later".

"It's more or less for appearances." replies one of the guards.

"We aren't exactly military, but it doesn't hurt to look the part, right?" says the other.

"I... I guess not." you say, trying to smile. "My Mobile Suit is behind that door, right?"

"Your Mobile Suit?" say the guards simultaneously.

"But the only thing stored in here is the Sandshark's Gundam X Hyper-Spec..."

"Yeah. That's my MS. I should know; I nearly died in it." you say, pointing to your scarred face.

Both guards make an "Ohhh..." sort of face, and silently let you and Garrod pass. Garrod keys in a passcode on a nearby panel, and the large door clatters open.

"Seriously though... uniforms?" you say again, looking at Garrod.

"Don't look at me; it was Kauto's idea. I didn't think it'd catch on, honestly."

You sigh.

"Of course..."

---

You grin at the sight of the big blue sky; God it felt good to be in the pilot's seat again... Garrod had directed you towards the nearest training field, where Ennil would be taking the latest batch of trainees out for a field test.

Redundant statement is redundant. Anyway, we should show off a bit; we're flying around in a sweet-ass Gundam, so let's give the newbies in the Crusaders something to talk about.

>>28031927
No, I meant that the Graham Special would only be possible in a Flag-esque Mobile Suit; the Peregrine has a transformation similar to the far simpler Airmaster and Taurus.

We give them a scare and our MS gets peppered with paint or tackled at best.

You activate the radio, and thankfully, it's in working condition, as you can hear Ennil walking the trainees through the basics; this must be the first time they're actually piloting Mobile Suits...

"Excuse me..." you say over the radio. "Mind if I help out? You look like you might need an assistant."

Ennil, who seems to be piloting a custom Jenice Kai, turns to face you, and is silent as you touch down. You can hear the trainees' muttering over the radio, clearly surprised, and a little jealous of your Gundam.

"Yeah." she says, finally. "I'd like that a lot."

"Sorry I wasn't there to see you wake up, Ennil." you say, smiling.

"I'm sorry I couldn't do anything to help you guys back then..." she replies, trying not to look at your scar through the video feed into her cockpit. "Does... does it hurt?"

"Nah." you reply. "I'm feeling a sluggish, but that should pass soon enough."

"Good... I'm glad." she says, smiling.

"Now, what can I do to help?" you ask, turning to the trainees.

"I was planning on having the trainees engage in a few practice rounds, give them some marker shots, and familiarize themselves with operating ranged weaponry... But perhaps an exhibition match between two... -experienced veterans- should be a better learning experience for them all. What do you say, David?"

Switching over to another MS o having Enil switch to a Gundam type is optional to keep things fair.

"I have a better idea." you say. "There's about ten people here. Why not have them draw lots and split into teams? You command one team, and I'll command the other. It'll give them a crash course in squad tactics and firearm control."

"I can get on board with that idea." replies Ennil. She turns to the trainees, and immediately goes full Drill Sergeant Nasty on their poor asses.

"ALRIGHT, YOU PANSIES! YOU HEARD THE MAN. SPLIT INTO TEAMS AND GRAB A SHOT MARKER. YOU'RE GETTING A CRASH COURSE IN TEAM COORDINATION!"

You wince; hearing her yelling out orders like this gave you flashbacks to... less savory years of your life, and within seconds you bring yourself back to the present. The trainees had drawn lots, and teams were decided; ten Crusaders, no doubt fresh off of the line due to their lack of color, divided between you and Ennil, everyone carrying a special MS-sized paint gun, the "Shot Marker".

"You sure you don't want to use a Crusader or something?" you ask. "I mean, I've got the Hyper Spec, and you have... a Jenice."

"You know what they say about judging a book by its cover, David." chides Ennil. "Besides, this machine was customized by Lumark Kauto; that should be enough of an indicator of its quality."

"If you say so..."

---

You and your "squadmates" were given ten minutes to hide out in the vast forest surrounding Zonder Epta. A loud boom and a bright light in the sky signalled the start of the mock battle; Team David versus Team Ennil.

You were sure enough of your skills that you'd have little trouble against the other team's Crusaders, but your main concern was Ennil, and how your own team would fare against her. The key to victory would be in how well everyone meshed with one another, and how well they could with with each other.

You had a sinking feeling this would end in tears...

Those are pretty nice. See you next time.

Do we have our GX bits with us? We could use one of those to make Ennil her own Gundam.
>>
>>28033127
Ooh, shiny. Excellent for breaking it in, so to speak. Both machine and trainee...

>>28033136
This color scheme would probably be either for urban combat, or for selling to allied countries.

>>28033147
Perfect for waging jungle/guerilla warfare, which would probably be their doctrine since NUNE can outproduce and outnumber ESTO. And Vultures are used to this method of fighting.
>>
>>28033229
They are in storage; as in, they're stowed away in MS Containers, which are on the island itself.

>>
>>28033310
Turning one of our few remaining Bits, and losing its Satellite Cannon capability, just to get another Gundam when Ennil could get a custom suit with equal or better specs, is a terrible idea.
It's the same as when we cannibalized the Bit in order to reconstruct te Black Gundam X, and ended up looking like an idiot when it turned out no one needed or wanted it.
>>
>>28034398
Actually, we only asked Kai about it. Maybe Jamil would've wanted it.
But sure, let's build her her own Gundam out of her Janice and Esperansa.
>>
>>28034398
We can still make the GX bit worthwhile. All we have to do is upgrade it to the GX-Hyper bit.
>>
>>28034398
I agree.

I think what we NEED to do is upgrade our GX Bits. There's an implication they're very rare and/or expensive to make (FLASH System and/or Satellite Cannon tech?), but at the same time OP lets them die if we sneeze.

A one-off, high-performance mobile suit is probably cheaper to build in a long run than replacing the Bits.

I still think we need to be able to negate one or two critfails per thread, as I said in:
>>28013373

So, upgraded GX Bits I'm for. But not cannibalizing them so we can make more gundam knock offs.

I have a funny idea though. What if we made a limited-production runs of Crusaders, except they're very high performance, yet look exactly the same? That'd be sure to instill some paranoia in NUNE pilots.
>>
>>28038532
Well, we could upgrade our bits into Hyper Spec variants and let loose some hell. Though we should see if it's in any way possible to increase their durability or something.

For Ennil's suit, we have the Esperansa around - we can combine that with her Janice and maybe make something out of it. And besides, Kid and Kauto have been messing around Epta for a while, they probably figured out how to make Gundam-type suits, as well as upgraded the machines our guys pilot.

As for the Crusaders, we're probably going to have to improve them further. We're still outgunned and technologically behind the NUNE, and using dirty tricks would be to our advantage. So why the hell not, we could keep the same frame while improving the performances.
>>
>>28038696
This was over PM, but I asked GunDAMN about how the Crusader compares to NUNE suits. It's even to the Balient, but edges out for the modularity.

It's not quite as good as the Neo Daughtress, but it's good enough. So it's not suicidal to have base Crusaders go against NDs, just they"ll be at a disadvantage with all things being equal. The ND outclasses the Balient completely.
>>
>>28038779
Well, the ND was developed for about ten years after the old Daughtress was released. Our Crusaders are good when dealing with suits you encounter every day, but it won't hurt to improve them a bit more. I mean, we did steal their DX and formed an alliance that's opposing them, they will react accordingly and probably roll out the NDs against us en masse.
>>
>>28038850
It'll be like the fall of Orb all over again, but with more named Gundams!
>>
>>28038696
Didn't the Esperansa get wrecked to hell and back? iirc, the only thing from it that was recovered was the thing's cockpit block.

Anyway, I'm all for improving the performance of the Crusaders.

Considering that there are very few of them around, and they're meant to be high-performance machines, I'm hoping that a Peregrine would have a better chance at taking on a Daughtress Neo than a basic Crusader by the time the Neos are rolled out.

We'd probably dominate underwater combat, since there's nothing that suggests that the New UNE has made any new Aquatic Mobile Suits in the past 15 years after the war.

I'm also kind of hoping that chances for more ESTO Mobile Suits to be made, like that "Totally not the Wing Gundam" that was being talked about last thread... or was that the thread BEFORE that? I forget... anyway, yeah; the ESTO should eventually start rolling out its own Gundams.
>>
>>28043570
Yeah, the Esperansa was wrecked, but Kauto should have the blueprints for it lying around somewhere, shouldn't he? We could even use them to further improve the Peregrine - at least when it's transformed, if nothing else.

Anyway, the modularity thing we've got going on for the Crusaders is pretty nifty, and if possible, we should see if we can do something similar for the other suits. Our aquatic suits are so far melee-focused, and it'd be cool if we can outfit them with swappable arms and legs as well. Wears could focus on anti-air, bombardment or torpedo-equipped unis.

And if we do decide to roll out our own Gundams, we could use the Divider as the base. It was built from a Daughtress, after all, so figuring out how to improve from there shouldn't be a problem.
>>
>>28044777
Yeah, make a Divider Gundam Mk.II or something... and maybe even do something crazy, like... COMBINE UPGRADES.

You know how Witz upgrades to the Airmaster Burst, but one of the possible upgrades was the Gunmaster?

Yeah, shit like that. Gunmaster Burst, or something.
