You are a Magical Girl, and you're about to give your boss a debriefing about the last mission you just wrapped up moments earlier.

It's strange, actually. Yes, you had the option of going back to your apartment and getting some actual sleep, sleep without worrying if you'd suddenly find a giggling, green-haired idol trying to get fresh under your blanket. You also had the option to go directly to Charles', to unwind the only way you knew how (and also your favorite way). But you chose to go ahead and get your debriefing done and over with instead. Much better to do it now rather than wait till later.

Sayaka would've been surprised if she found out. Mami would've been impressed. Kyoko would've grinned, nudged you in the ribs and teased you about worrying about timetables and shit like that. Turning into a watch-wearing dildo.

...It's not really that, is it? You just want to get this shit over with, after all. The less you have to do with the last 48 hours, the better. Besides, after this, you'd have enough time to talk to Mami about what she learned from the rogue Magical Girls you rounded up last night. And then there's the upcoming mission to prepare for, you still need to get the intel about the off-shore facility you're going to be sent to steal something from. Not to forget about your dinner date with Midori too, and--

...FUCK. You ARE turning into a watch-wearing dildo.

Jesus Christ, things were really much more simpler before you got this goddamn hat to wear.
>>
>>27985185

In any case, you're currently at Headquarters, in the waiting area outside Kyuubey's office. The receptionist's desk is currently empty - it seems like Mami hasn't clocked in yet, or probably already out on business, you're not sure. In her place, however, was a monitor screen turned to face visitors, and it had come alive the moment you came in, displaying Kyuubey's usual impassive face.

He greeted you easily enough, after getting over his surprise of you reporting in so early. He asked you to wait, as he seemed to have company over. ...Tense company, from the way he sounded, but company nonetheless.

The monitor blanked out after he told you that he'd send for you once his affairs with the visitor is settled. It's been an hour since then, and you've spent that hour checking your Shield. Checking to see if it was clicking incessantly, a sign of the eldritchian nightmare inside being a bit prissy, or if you could use the only ability that'd been your one trump card before you suddenly got saddled with weapons forged from pure insanity and hate.

Nothing. Not even the quiet ticking of the mysterious, gear-infested mechanism within that was a soothing comfort whenever the world did its level best to kill you. Your Shield was silent, cold and dead.

It could turn, sure, allowing you access to the mysterious second inventory that you got Tiny Pete from, and where you stashed an entire wing of jets into - but any further than that and the mechanism inside locked fast and locked hard. It took you a lot of grunting and pushing to get it back to its prior position.

[1/2]
>>
It's like we were either really good at collating data through multiple timelines or were significantly practiced at carrying out investigative/bureaucratic work something!
>>
>>27985193

You were about to try again - contemplating smashing the shield itself into the wall nearby, just to dislodge whatever it was that was sticking inside the gears that blocked you from accessing your ability - when the monitor came alive once more, showing the face of your incubator. And yes, you're well aware that facial expressions aren't something mutant cats are any good at, but this time, he looked...well, frustrated. Resigned, maybe. Just a bit of angry, too.

"Come in, Matsuda." Kyuubey had said, in a tired sigh. "But before you do, please remember that I do not tolerate gunfire in my office."

The monitor switched off before you could ask what was that about. Gunfire? Was he worried that you were going to shoot him again? You've curbed that habit a long time ago, but he's just probably trying to play it safe, you guess.

You step through the double doors, and blink as you realize that Kyuubey's visitor is, in fact, another Incubator. One with the same smug expression as him, the same round crimson eyes - but where Kyuubey was all white, this was nearly jet black all over, with only the fur covering its head and face the same hue as pure snow. The teardrop insignia tattooed on Kyuubey's back instead imprinted on its forehead, between its eyes.

"Brother, let me introduce you to my Warmaster, Chiaki Matsuda." You hear Kyuubey say, with no small amount of pride. "Matsuda, allow me to introduce you to my brother, the Tenth."

. . .

The Tenth? Here?

How do you react?

I'm guessing that Jyuubey is going tell us something bullshit like "Mai Meguca have rebelled! Because I don't have any power to turn them into witches or mind control them into stopping I need you to go in and kill them all. Oh and only you can do this."

And the only reason why QB is giving him any attention because Dickbutt is going "You do stuff for me or I will tell everyone what you are keeping in that base in Siberia. You know that they will go Excommunicate Traitoris on your ass if they find out."

Well, that's probably going to happen anyway

...Well. Now you know why the mutant cat reminded you. If he hadn't, you'd probably have immediately drawn whatever firearm you could get your hands on and shot the little bastard to pieces as soon as you set your eyes on him. Yes, your memory may still be a little spotty with what happened back then at Siberia, but you remember enough to know that most of it came down to the fucker being butthurt about you keeping Midori for your own.

Midori's yours, you remember telling him, in no uncertain terms. Midori's yours, and you're not giving her up. If he thinks he's still got claim over her, then he can go fuck himself.

What name did you call him again? You remember calling him something, again and again on that computer screen, the Incubator ending up so flustered about it that you could taste his frustration in his typewritten words. Granted, it was a completely different you back then, and your memory of that time was strange in the sense that it felt like viewing a fuzzy camera recording of the events, rather than an actual experience - but some of it you could remember clearly. This wasn't one of them, but the nickname was so good, you'd feel really bad if you forgot it.

Dickbutt...? Was it dickbutt? It's dickbutt, isn't it?

It's here that both Kyuubey and the Tenth seem to bristle at the same time. "Now, Matsuda," Kyuubey starts, a warning tone in his voice. "I realize my brother has made certain decisions in the past that he must answer for, but there's really no call in tainting your first meeting in person with vulgar, puerile insults."

Huh?...But you didn't say anything. What the hell are they talking about--oh. Huh. You must've been thinking out loud. That's...well. You weren't planning on doing that, honest.

"I'm sure." Kyuubey lets out a sigh, here, before turning back to the Tenth. "Younger brother, please forgive Matsuda. She's just wrapped up a rather large assignment only a few hours ago, and she's had little chance to rest as it is. I'm sure she didn't mean to call you that, she..." Your Incubator stops as he sees you raise your hand. "...Yes, Matsuda?"

You lower your hand, and nod towards Jyuubey. Yes, you didn't mean to call him Dickbutt then, but you mean to do so, now.

"I don't think that--" Kyuubey tries again, but you cut him off. Turning back to Jyuubey and saying the word with as much venom as you possibly could deliver with your gravelly, deadpan voice.

Dickbutt.

Both incubators bristle again, as if on cue, and your Incubator is visibly more irritated now. "Now, Matsuda, see here--"

"It's fine, older brother." It's here that you realize that Jyuubey's been staring at you all this time - and that his voice, which you hear in your mind for the first time, sounds weedy and nasal, as opposed to Kyuubey's calm yet professional tones. The same sort of voice used to complaining and whining.

"It's no surprise that someone who takes after the Betrayer so much has no concept of common etiquette. I do hope you'll take this as yet more proof that you have made the wrong decision - again - in choosing who to lead your Officio." Jyuubey shakes his head. "A poor replacement for Tomoe Mami. Now, if there's someone more deserving to lead the Ninth Officio, it's her."

Ho. This little fucker's just baiting you now, isn't he?

"Tomoe Mami recommended Matsuda, and lobbied for her election." Your mutant cat of a boss replies before you could react, here. "I've no mind to seek a replacement, or keep the position unoccupied any longer. Whatever deficiency you think Matsuda may have, rest assured she is working to address them to become the Warmaster I chose her to be." Kyuubey's tone of voice, then, had never sounded colder. "And besides, you could hardly blame her. Sending an agent of your own over to disrupt her vacation?"

Jyuubey sniffs, clearly offended. "I merely wanted to retrieve my Callidus in a peaceful, amiable fashion. Even after she attacked my agent - without provocation nor justification, I may add - I tried again a second time, thinking that she might listen to reason after getting her pound of flesh." The Incubator shakes its off-hued head mournfully. "Instead, I am grossly insulted, humiliated, and deprived of yet another agent. Another one, on top of the one you helped her steal, older brother."

A clicking of its tongue, and Jyuubey turns its impassive gaze at you.

"Perhaps I can reciprocate by stealing one of your agents, then, older brother? Someone important to your staff, like the one-eyed scarlet one? Or maybe Mami Tomoe herself? I wonder, how would that go?"

...The little bastard's looking at you, as if daring you to react.

What do you do?

Constant threat of immediate Witch out or Soul Gem destruction, having her paired with a more loyal agent with a killswitch, and assuming direct control.

Besides, he's not doing it to gain an asset, he's doing it to deny us one. It's basically a threat to take Kyouko or Mami and force us to kill them because he'll direct control them into fighting us like he did with Mirai. And even if we take them down non-lethally, he'll remotely self-destruct the Soul Gem via Witch out.
That doesn't require them to be willing at all.

Firstly by the wording of the Kyuubey's first initiation of the recontracting, he was able to recontract midori to him.

Kyuubey himself says he despises the witch out and direct control clauses and so our girls don't have them. His wording was vague enough that he might not have been able to alter clauses, only contractorship. Thats one reason why we actually need to check with him if the clauses are still active with Midori.

If this remains true, Jyuubey may get the kidnapped magical girl without the clauses he needs to exert direct control except the direct kill switch by being paired with one of his own.

Then again if he attempts to pull a stunt like this, I'd like to see the resources he'll need to expend to capture someone on Kyoko or Mami's skills alive. The killswitch owner had also better be a damn special magical girl to not die within a few strikes from them.

This'll be my last reply anyways. My reply will still alway be Bring It.

You decide to keep quiet, here. No provocation your ass, the little bastard knows EXACTLY what went down in Siberia. You don't need to remind him, nor does Kyuubey need you to spell it out for him either.

So you stay quiet, merely returning Jyuubey's unblinking stare with one of your own. Breaking your silence momentarily only to ask Kyuubey if this is a bad time for you to be here, and if it's possible for your debriefing to be held at a later time. As if Jyuubey hadn't just tried to bait you into snatching him up off of his seat, smashing him into the floor and then stoving his face in with your heels.

"It's fine, Matsuda. Stay here. My brother was just about to leave when I called you in. We'll have your debriefing in a few moments." He then turns towards Jyuubey. "Younger brother, while I understand that you handle your own Officio differently--"

"Of course I do," Jyuubey snaps. "And clearly in a much more superior way to yours, older brother. You coddle your agents like children, even more than your vaunted Officio system forces us to." It's here that the nasal voice of the Tenth gains a sneering edge. "Do you consider them your daughters now, older brother? Do you consider yourself their progenitor? Or is that your insanity coming to the fore once more, like it did back then?"

Kyuubey is silent at this, his face coldly impassive, and it's a while before he answers. When he does, you could hear the note of derision in his voice, despite it being as cool and as collected as always.

"...I was just about to say, younger brother, before your interruption, that while I have always admired how headstrong you are, as well as your frank way of speaking. But as far as trying to provoke Matsuda here, as well as contemplating stealing one of my own agents...I would at least remind you that you came to me for assistance, dear brother. And I am giving it, despite everything."

He pauses here, his bushy tail flicking leisurely from side to side behind him. "Please do not try my patience, or my loyalty to my kindred. Unless, of course, you wish to see more proof of how insane I actually am."

Jyuubey had broken his stare from Kyuubey only halfway through his speech, listening to the rest with his head bowed and eyes downcast, seemingly contrite. Silence passes for a few moments before he finally replies, in the tone that reminded you of a freshly-scolded child. "...My apologies, older brother. The matter with the Prophet has set me on edge."

"A matter that Matsuda handled for us last night." Kyuubey turns to nod at you. "Ably and with little in the way of casualties on all sides - including yours, if I remember correctly." Your Incubator sounds amused, now.

"Indeed, but Yoshitaka Mine--" Jyuubey tries, glaring at you again.

"--is alive, with both his kneecaps intact." Kyuubey cuts in. "Which, I assure you, is a miracle after encountering my Warmaster. Your stolen client is safe, your revenue stream remains intact, and you do not have to expend energy to reconstitute a body for an agent casualty. Am I right, younger brother?"

More silence, and Jyuubey bows low here again, properly cowed. "...Yes, older brother."

"Good." Kyuubey nods. "I'll consider this matter settled. Now, forgive me, dear brother, but I need to attend to my Warmaster now. You and your Warmaster may see yourselves out. A car should be waiting for you outside to drive you to your destination." Kyuubey's chair swivels around with a whir of servos, making him face the array of screens in front of him. Signifying that his meeting with the Tenth is all but done.

"..." You watch as Jyuubey glares at the back of Kyuubey's chair, as if about to say something particularly venomous - but seems to think better of it, hopping off of the chair it was perched on and trotting towards the double doors.

It's also here that you realize that a Magical Girl was also with Jyuubey - except she'd been conveniently out of sight. She'd been standing a few ways off from the doors themselves, so still and quiet that you'd have mistaken her for a statue, or part of the background.

She had white hair, that was for certain, half-covered by a black beret worn on a rather severe angle. Her costume resembled something like a napoleonic general would wear, complete with epaulettes and badges and medals. A stiff riding crop slept on a sling around her waist, her legs and feet covered with thigh-high black leather boots. A monocle, perched upon her nose, shone from her right eye.

...You didn't even notice someone in the same fucking room as you? You probably need that break more than you thought, goddamn.

You watch her open the double doors for Jyuubey, holding them open before slipping through herself - but not before shooting you one last glare. You'd have returned it, but the doors quickly closed behind them.

"...I apologize you had to see that, Matsuda." Kyuubey lets out a sigh. "It's always taxing whenever I have to deal with my brothers - and with him, especially." Another sigh. "What am I going to do with him, I wonder?"

>>

>>27987200

Spending time as Kharn's underling probably helped a bit in that department as well. There must have been times when Chiaki/Homura wouldn't have had the chance to crank the shield for a timestop, or otherwise couldn't get the shield to work due to a certain witchy deity.
>>
>>27987218
AFAIK the shield got damaged some time AFTER Homu showed up in Charlotte's barrier. Before that it worked just like in the series, instant thought-activation.
No idea when Pinky started interfering.
>>
Gaiz, if the snatch&destroy mission is still days off, we should use a day or two for mastering some of our other golden toys, like Kirika's pigsticker and our own DEagle. Maybe the chainaxes too if we can wield them comfortably.
>>
>>27987255
We need to try the chainaxes. See if Madok-I mean Malal is in one of them.
>>
>>27987247

We weren't told the status of the shield during Mami's flashback. The earliest mention was during Kharn's flashback and it was already broken then.

My guess is that Pinky broke it before leaving us to die in Charlotte's Barrier
>>
>>27987255
Might be worth doing, but I think the eversor training should be higher priority. It would give us something to talk about with Kirika, too.

I don't think we have time, anyway, we'll probably leave tomorrow. Important clients don't like to be kept waiting.
>>
>>27987255
But why do that when we could master Midori's body instead?

I'm for Kirika time before the prophet gets super serious.
>>
>>27987255

I want to talk to DEagle so much it hurts.
>>
>>27987277
We have two days and a Midorin.
>>
>>27987255
We can wield the Gorefamily more comfortably than Kirika's evil slicy bit.

For that matter we should do our Eversor training with Gorefather/Gorechild since our bangles need to rest, and the sword is also right out
Also because we can use it with the chainblades turned off, so we dont risk turning Kyouko's bedwarmer into giblets.
Thirdly its a good test to see what happens when we use a golden weapon of someone who is still alive.
>>
>>27987247
Chiaki forgot she has TK abilities. She needs to crank it manually when low on magic ala end of walpugisnaght scene.
>>
>>27987255
IMHO we should take Chainaxes over (before) Pigsticker.
Kharn was jully murder happy, Kirikia was sadistic murder crazy.

Well, unless we go with the plan of dousing Muramasa in Kong bath, since Kirika calmed down when wasted (but that's meta knowledge from Sayaka Flashback we don't have access to).
>>
>>27987277
Where's the harm in combing eversor training with double chainaxes?

...Well, if he's asking you, then you tell him about a certain human saying: that if you give someone enough rope, eventually they'll hang themselves. Also, the one you heard during a Western movie - something about a leopard changing his shorts.

Kyuubey is silent for a moment, his eyes locked to the screens in front of him, the round crimson orbs reflecting the scrolling information on expensive backlit LCD. "Matsuda, while I do appreciate how rare this situation is - your trying to actually help me with my problem regarding a recalcitrant brother of mine - I fail to see the relationship between fratricide by hanging, and forcing a member of the Felidae family to change his underwear." A moment of silence. "Or is this your way of trying to lighten the atmosphere with a joke or two? Because as fanciful as the connection is, I don't find it amusing at all."

What? N-no. No, you weren't making a joke. You were just pointing out--

"I know, Matsuda. I was feigning ignorance as a joke of my own. I understand what you mean." Kyuubey turns to look at you for the span of a single heartbeat, before turning back to his work. "I guess it failed to amuse you, too?"

Yeah. It wasn't that funny.

"Alas." Your Incubator lets out a sigh. "Jyuubey is so hard to deal with, sometimes. Very mercurial. One moment he's your dutiful little brother, who wants nothing more than to please you - the next he's your worst enemy, accusing you of everything from treason to sabotage. It gets tiring fast. Even the Seventh, the kindest of us all, has a strained relationship with him at best."

Another sigh. "Simply leaving him alone to his own devices, and striking once he's lost everything...it smacks of treachery, and of the worst kind. It is very tempting, though, if only to remove a constant source of stress." He shakes his head. "Still, he has his contractees to take care of. I will not deprive them of their Incubator, unless I have absolutely good reason to."

Well, why not just assimilate his contractees into the Ninth, just like how he did with the Third? Isn't there some higher authority Kyuubey can appeal to, to ask permission for that kind of thing?

"You mean the First?" Kyuubey asks. "...no, such concerns are below my oldest brother. We are autonomous, a Officio to their own, and we rarely bother him with our petty squabbles unless he himself interjects." It's here that he shakes his head again. "And that kind of expansion...there is such a thing as contractee bloat. If I am to destroy my younger brother, I will have to reave his Officio clean of life, down to the last girl. And Mitakihara ill needs another bloodbath like that."

It's here that his chair swivels around to face you. "Ah, listen to me, Matsuda. Bringing family problems into business." He lets out an annoyed grunt. "Let's start over. Matsuda, I asked you to debrief me on your mission with Kirishima Ruri, right?"

Yeah. It's why you're here.

No, Ribbon Homura is Primary Homura.

We're some kind of bizarre Mirror Homura, based largely on the fact that we're left-right inverted. [x] Idol mission was routine for the most part.
One attempt from the Tojo group engaging the principal, turned away.
One attack on me in the stadium, holding the crowds hostage with suicidal magical girls. Claiming to be on a rogue group working with the Prophet, and the Tojo group was nominally involved with them, supplying them with information but disavowed them once they realised it was a setup of a terrorist attack.

Took them down with help from the backup teams. Interrogation would probably give more info on the Prophet and what those crazy bitches were about. They claimed responsibility for the dead girl dressed up like Mami.

No more idol missions from now on. And I think I'll avoid protection gigs if I can.

[x] "Kirishima Ruri had no need for a Warmaster's escort. She requested my presence merely because she COULD, and so that she could find out how I tick' or some bullshit like that.
She was irritating, manipulative, and horrifyingly effective at achieving her goal.
The Tojo Group attempted to coerce her into signing over to them. Ruri herself stated that any idols that do sign such a contract quickly find themselves married off to corporate executives. I believe the implication there is that the Tojo Group is operating a sex slave ring, focussed on flavour-of-the-month idols, whom they sell off for good once they fall pregnant. Perfect business partners for the Tenth.
And then there was that idiot 'reporter', calling herself NECO, that Sayaka seems intent on protecting. She's assured me that NECO will no longer be an issue, but I really doubt that."
>>
>>27987512

Key points:

>Day 1

Discovered that Sayaka is a big fan of Ruri Kirishima's work.

Kirishima appears to have been approached by the Tojo Group to work for them. Seemed very adamant about not getting involved with them; however, the Tojo group managed to get Yoshitaka Mine in the hotel to talk with Kirishima, despite the hired security at the entrance.

The hired security may have been enthralled or otherwise incapacitated momentarily by magical means. This may be related to Lucuis' involvement with Yoshitaka Mine, as learned in the interrogation on Day 2.

Learned that there was an incident involving the death of a Kirishima fan. Apparently, this fan looked almost exactly like Ruri Kirishima, but was claimed by another family before an investigation could be launched. Do you know anything about this?

>Day 2

Interrogated Yoshitaka Mine. He might have had involvement with the meguca Lucius in the past, but wanted out as soon as he learned her true intentions.

Everything else you know about already.

I've accepted the challenge and stalled the fight long enough for our Magical Girls (with help of stadium security) to diffuse the bombers without spreading panic in the crowd. Terrorist's Sould Gems have been captured for interrogation. Right now I only know that they were acting "in Prophets name" and generally full of shit."

[X] decribe all important events, meeting up with Ruri, getting Sayaka in as an 'adoring fan', the Tojo group entering the hotel with magical assistance, calling extra security and finding evidence of a spying cat, the stadium security, the tojo group arriving yet again and in the middle, trying to leave with the rich managers looking really scared, detaining and interrogating said people, the loss of our squad member and the challenge issued by Lucius, the coordination between squad Hiryuu and the non magical assets to single out the bombers, the fight between us and Lucius+lackeys, retrieving the soul gems of the fallen opponents and every bomber in the stadium, staggering off the field (with a little help), getting healed up and the uneventful end to the mission then on.

[x] "47 hours of an insufferable girl pulling my strings, one hour of good, honest work. Without Miki and Karasawa to take some of the attention and work, I'd probably have gone insane. Or killed the principal, either or.

The incident was expected, even if its nature provided some complications - frankly, I had half expected your brother's officio to interfere on the yakuza's behalf, and for this prophet business to wait for later, but such is life. I would certainly recommend investigation into their ties, after I nicely packed them up for you - I'd imagine they originated from the dissolved third, or maybe went rogue individually, but their associations in the time between then and now would be very important to know.

Dealing with them proved rather simple, as their leader was, quite honestly, a single-minded idiot. Personally I mostly stalled them then beat them up once I got the clear, I believe the other girls could tell you more about the operation in detail, especially our dependable callidus."

“You saw it? You saw the sacrifice yourself?” The dark-haired girl tittered across from me. …She hadn’t shut up since we sat down for coffee together. Her name was...Himiko something or other. The self-styled Shrine Maiden of the Golden Lady, my contact in Mitakihara, and yet another pain in my ass. …I tried to explain to her I was sitting in the stands, but she wouldn’t hear of it – it just made her talk more, and louder.

“Was it glorious? Did-did the screams fill the stadium? Were the people there awed by Her-“ Jesus Christ, kid, have you never heard of subtlety? I cut her off before she could go off on another tangent, and she deflated in her seat, staring out the window instead.

…I took a sip of my coffee. Black. Probably not what I would’ve ordered, but it was waiting for me when I got here. …It tasted pretty bad, but I guess I was grateful that Himiko – Shiraki, that was it. I was grateful Shiraki didn’t get me dog blood or something.

“…What’s the Black Shieldmaiden like?” I took another sip, giving the cup a good, long look this time. It was plastered with the image of some angry-looking metal singer. …I wasn’t really sure how to answer Shiraki’s question, but she didn’t give me much time to think about it before asking again, louder this time, with a face like a pet waiting for its master to get home.

“…Apostle Cooldown?” Pretty sure none of these people even know what ‘apostle’ means.

The words were razors on my lips as I tried to explain what she...what Murderface was like. …No, what the Black Shieldmaiden – what Warmaster Matsuda – was like.

She was amazing. She was...I don’t know. Enchanting. A blossom of violence in a garden of sinners. Seeing her work was watching a whirlwind of icy hate and manic, primal joy. Every gunshot, every bloom of fire and thunder from every grenade was placed with a steely tenderness that only a killer could understand. She made murder graceful. She made it more than just a game, or a job. It was her own sort of kindness, and she loved it.

…She was like me. She understood how it…felt. What it meant to kill someone. She stared through the horrible shit in the world and she stripped it away with her beauty. That was the Black Shieldmaiden. That was Matsuda Chiaki.

…There was more to it, but Shiraki wouldn’t have understood, even as she leaned in closer and closer, hanging on my every word. …She was infatuated, too. But she didn’t know Murderface. She didn’t love her, she just loved the idea of the Shieldmaiden. A savior for the sick fucks out there. A hero for the crazy and the bloodstained.

“I’d really like to meet her.” I bit back a ‘fuck you’. She wasn’t the one with a Kill Order on her head. All she had to do was walk to her Warmaster’s office and ask for two minutes to kiss ass. She was in the Ninth, she could just walk up to her and eat lunch together or something. My hand squeezed around my knife. Bullshit. It was bullshit. She didn’t even know her. She didn’t-

Deep breaths, Wendy-san. It’s over. You died, she forgot. You don’t have a place in her world anymore.

A gentle voice murmured from the table behind me, one that carried a golden warmth that made my cheeks burn a little.

…Yeah. …She’s better off anyway.

Much as I would’ve liked to ditch her for a late lunch consisting solely of a bottle of tequila and the barrel of my service pistol, Shiraki was most of the reason I was in Mitakihara. Apparently some Prophet and her goon squad had been giving them a lot of trouble here lately – the same Prophet, I confirmed last night, that was after Tomoe Mami. The girl Matsuda was hunting.

…If I knew Murderface, the problem was as good as cleaned up already. This was basically a waste of time. But that wasn’t good enough, no matter how many times I told her. Of course she wanted to see the Shieldmaiden splatter the unworthy all over the pavement, but it was our job – mine especially – to join her. To help Matsuda hold up the unbearable weight of her sins.

The sanctification of the city began when Lucius and the false Prophet were crushed by the Blessed Lady’s power, she’d told me. The gates to the Golden Land had appeared in the stadium last night, and now every drop of blood spilled in Her name would pry them open more and more. …I was supposed to oversee a ceremony, the first offering the Church in Mitakihara made to Her.

Getting real sick of crazy bitches telling me what to do.

We reached the old Shinto shrine at the edge of the city a couple of hours before the ceremony was supposed to start. I don’t really know from shrines, but it seemed like the place had been fixed up recently. Probably the effort of a lot of girls, treating this like an after-school club, or one magic architect. …Guess it was a little cute, if they were all as cheery about it as Shiraki.

Wait, why do we think Ruri's Meguca crush is Nanoha again?
>>
>>27987916

They’d wheeled in a huge flatscreen to watch the concert footage on. Must have been a bitch to get out here, and it’d be even worse if it rained or something. …Wasn’t really sure what kind of crowd to expect. Maybe they needed a projector or something instead. It didn’t exactly seem like much of a religious ceremony thing. Little like reviewing a tape of a bunch of fanatics firebombing a mosque before mass.

Maybe that was what they did now. Shit. I haven’t been to mass in like ten years. Not since Dad stopped dragging me out of my room to take me. …Wonder if he’d be mad if he knew about all this. Disgusted, probably.

Someone inched up next to me while I was thinking, like she didn’t think I’d notice. I grumbled out a ‘what’ while she was opening and closing her mouth like a fish with Downs Syndrome.

“S-sorry! Sorry.” …It was one of the girls that I met up with when I first arrived. Didn’t remember her name. Somethingko. Aqua blue hair, weird eyes. Nervous temperament. Probably expected it to rain, she was carrying an oversized umbrella that I thought might fit over the TV. Maybe she was the one that brought it.

Spit it out, Umbrella.

“Sorry! …Are you really the Apostle she sent? The Living Miracle?”

…Sure. Why not. It was like all these people did was make up stupid titles.

“Real…ly?” She cut herself off halfway through the word, like she’d choked on it, and the kid seemed to shrink as I stared at her. “Right. Really. I mean, why would you lie about that, right?” She spun the umbrella in her hands.

“So…did you meet her? Do you know the Blessed Lady?” Even cringing away, her eyes were wide, filled with a wonder you only see in little kids and idiots.

Now that’s rude, she’s your fan, sneered another voice, faint and distorted, like it came from the bottom of a sea of thick tar.

…Of course I’d met her. Met her on the edge of Hell, and she…

A high-pitched whine filled my ears, and a hiss that almost sounded like giggling. …Yeah. …I’d met her, and she brought me back. So I could see Kong again.

Umbrella took a deep breath.

“…I’m a little scared of her. Is she…is she really like this? Himi-chan’s been acting weird since she joined, and…I don’t know. I don’t want to bathe the world in b-blood. I’m not really…I just wanted to be friends with youkai...Sorry, I know this is probably…” She trailed off, gripping her umbrella with everything she had. “…Please don’t kill me…”

I opened my mouth, then shut it again. It was sort of nice to know that not everyone that touched this whole thing immediately turned batshit insane. …I couldn’t give her a good answer. Couldn’t just tell her to run, not when I wasn’t sure what to believe myself. But I wasn’t going to hurt her.

“…Whatever you believe,” I told her, “don’t rush into it like a dumbass. A blood cul…church is probably not worth it if you’re not ready to serve a crazy murder god. …It’s something we always told the new kids back at the Eighth. You don’t get to take it back, once you start spilling blood. That taste stays in your mouth forever.”

She smiled a little, though something about it seemed kind of forced. …There was one other thing, though. Felt like I couldn’t just…I don’t know. Let the only sane person I’d talked to in a while walk away without hearing it.

“…Things are gonna get messy. No matter what you do. Especially in Japan. The Ninth Warmaster – the Black Shieldmaiden, Her herald, or whatever it is now - knows that better than anyone. What that means, though…” I just shrugged, and she seemed to get the message.

I barely got a minute to myself after that. As more and more magical girls filtered into the grounds over the next couple of hours, they all wanted to meet me. Ask questions I didn’t want to answer, or questions they wouldn’t like the answer to. It was, unexpectedly, a hell of a relief when the ceremony finally started. …First time I’d said that about a sermon about the Blessed Lady in a long time.

First time I’d bothered to sit in on one in months, too. It was all the same, whether it was Alice or Shiraki, whether it was the Second or the Ninth. …At least they had the dignity, now, to strip away the bullshit. There was no beautiful goddess to greet us when we died. There was only a candy-scented monster with more teeth than face, and if you were lucky and the people around you were crazy enough to…to throw away way more than they should have, then you got to come back. But you wouldn’t sleep the same anymore. And everything would be cold, and she’d…

…Doesn’t matter. Nevermind.

“Sisters! Chosen! Beloved of the Blessed Lady! The Black Shieldmaiden has returned to us, and she has anointed our city with the blood of the wicked! The minions of the Prophet, the slaves of the False World, have fallen unceremoniously before Her Golden Power! The sacrifices have begun!”

Shiraki howled out her rhetoric the moment the video ended, her eyes glowing a sickly yellow-gold in the darkness of the evening. The crowd screamed mindlessly in response, beyond a few…less-than-enthused newcomers, like Umbrella.

“You have now seen Her Glory for yourselves – and not just you! Every blasphemous soul in the world now knows the Truth, now understands Her Beauty! The Age of the Blessed Lady has begun! The Doors of the Golden Land have appeared in Mitakihara, in our beautiful city, pried open by the power of the Shieldmaiden, who has finally chosen to grace this world and bear our sins once more!”

(6/9)
>>
>>27987955

The screams became deafening, and an acrid, unbearable scent met my nostrils as I stared down at the magical girls that had gathered.

“Children of the Third Messenger, of the Tenth Messenger! Of the Seventh, and our foreign guests! Rejoice and honor the Ninth, the House of the Blessed Lady! The Officio that Our Shieldmaiden has chosen for Her Golden Army! Honor the Golden Light who leads us! Honor her Holy Blade, honor the Blood Knight! We are but servants under Her Power, and tonight! Tonight, we begin our service anew!”

…Shiraki paused for a breath, waiting for the crowd to simmer down. …She was breathing hard, her face flushed. …This was worse than Annie. This was even worse than V.

“Tonight, we begin our consecration of the False World, our preparation for Her arrival! Tonight, we cut away the first of its rotting flesh! Tonight, we too shall begin to pry open the doors to the Golden Land with our very hands!”

Lights, Callidus-provided I guess, shone down on the altar at the front of the shrine, silhouetting Shiraki and me as we stepped out of the way. …The scent got worse. I could hear it. I could hear Her.

…They’d strapped a girl to the altar. Bound tight by sacred ropes, gagged and blindfolded. Silent. Probably didn’t have a voice anymore. Maybe literally.

“Victim of wicked cruelty, child of the dead world! This creature will be the first of many to know the Lady’s Grace in Her loving arms! She is ignorant and broken, knows not her own misery! She mistakes paltry illusions around her for grand Truths! She knows only vulgar platitudes for joy! But now, now she will be free, and her worthless shell will be the foundation upon which we all reach the Golden Land! Apostle Cooldown, please! Please, honor this poor soul with the Lady’s mercy!”

(7/9)
>>
>>27987961

My knife flicked into my hand of its own accord as I approached the altar. ...I didn’t want to do this. I couldn’t do this. The magical lights on me seemed to burn me through my uniform. …I never pretended not to be a sick fuck. I’m a killer. But I don’t…want this.

Don’t you love her? Sweet breath in my ear as something…soft pressed against my arm, guiding my knife toward the girl’s chest. …A white, bloodstained glove rested on my own, with wicked claws that seemed to pierce through the metal and into my hand.

…This has nothing to do with her. She doesn’t want this.

Of course she wants this. You were there. You saw her. She looked like she was dancing, didn’t she? A small, soft head rested against my shoulder. …My gazed flicked to the side, and I met sunless eyes. Beautiful, sunless eyes, and a sweet, dark scent that filled my senses.

You’re doing all of this for her, aren’t you? You’re here for her. You came back for her. …I need you to do this. She needs you to do this.

…No, she doesn’t. This is crazy. This is…

You’re the only one who can, Wendy. You’re one of my chosen. A very, very special one. You’re my living miracle. We can show her to the Golden Land together.

“…And she’ll remember me…?” …I mumbled it out loud. I didn’t mean to. My mind had gone entirely numb, save for Her words.

She’ll always remember you, Wendy.

…The girl on the altar screamed as the knife sank into her chest, as it cut through skin and muscle and bone. As I dragged it down to her stomach. She thrashed in her bonds, what was left of her voice cracking in her gag. I didn’t care. I barely noticed. My body moved on its own in long, practiced strokes as my knife sliced down to her pelvis, and as I drew it again and thrust it into her thigh.

My arm was so light. My knife was a part of me, like it used to be. …The cold knot deep in my body loosened, then vanished. I could feel it again. Warmth. It was so easy, as my knife carved through her, as her thrashing grew faint, then limp. …It was a little too soon, though. I hadn’t even gotten to her face yet.

The crowd’s murmurs grew into cheers as Shiraki shifted, a smile of heated ecstasy growing on her face. Her hands moved, a flourish that I doubted was at all necessary, the gestures of a miracle worker. The girl – the near-corpse – under me began to convulse as her wounds erupted with a torrent of blood, one that whirled into the air, curling into a beautiful spiral.

As the girl was drained entirely, it became an elegant, shining snake that shimmered scarlet and gold in the light as it danced over the crowd, sprinkling red scales onto their faces. …Clever. She’d cut her wrist to add more blood to it. Made a bigger show for the people. Preaching was half showmanship, I guess.

I left my knife decisively buried in the girl’s neck, but it would be gone in moments. It was me, and it never strayed very far. …I didn’t really mean to, but I smiled out at the crowd, with the soft touch of slender arms of a pink-haired goddess wrapped around one of mine, squeezing it into an almost-nonexistent bust. The stench of blood and candy filled the grounds, and I could see the love of the Blessed Lady fill the hearts of every single girl there.

For the first time since my contract, I felt really, truly free.

>She scowls down at you, before suddenly smiling sweetly as she licks her teeth. Changing tack - as well as emotions - at the speed of light. "Well, to be perfectly honest, no, actually that's really easy to do. But it's really, really annoying sometimes, especially when they suddenly get into their heads that they're some sort of superhero! One of them actually tried to blast me with the weapon I gave her before flying off! And she was really pretty too, we had the same taste in hairstyle and everything!" Pinky blinks her midnight-black eyes after a moment. "W-well, she had long brown hair, though, and she kept blathering on something about making friends and everything..."

>"A hero, Chiaki-chan." Ruri breathes this out into the airconditioned cold of the room. "She's...someone kind and strong and brave. She never thinks about herself or her safety - she just does the kind of thing you'd expect Superman to be doing, if he was actually real."

>...What, like saving kids from burning orphanages and all that?

>"Sort of." Ruri giggles here. "She just...does it. The rescuing thing, the saving thing. All the superhero stuff. And I don't think she's got an Officio like you, or all the other Magical Girls I've encountered. She always works alone, and she never takes any reward money or anything like that."

>Sounds...well, remarkable. And a bit stupid, really.

>"Is it, really?" The idol's tone of voice is pensive, here. Quiet. "Isn't she doing what Magical Girls are actually supposed to be doing, Chiaki-chan? Helping people, rescuing people? Protecting everyone's hopes and dreams?"

You joking anon? If pinky's still on the table, Wendy sure is too. We'll just need to get rid of this cultist shit first, of course.
>>

>>
>MAMI'S A CULTIST KILL HER
From white knights to batshit in a heartbeat. Never change, /tg/
>>
>>27988380

Mami would never condone such bloody sacrifice and if she did, she stopped being the Mami we know and love and became an obstacle.
>>
>Mami is a known golden weapons user
>had to resign from Warmaster for dubious reasons
>notable absences

What if she is the prophet?
>>
>>27988417
Hang on.

Magical girls are liches. They don't die unless their Soulgem is smashed.

What if the 'sacrifice' didn't die and just bled on everything?
>>
>>27988442
I think when blood magic is involved things get wonky, especially whn souls are thrown into the mix.
>>
>>27988421
>Golden Weapon user
>Being the Prophet

Have you EVEN been paying attention? Golden Weapons are gifts from the Blessed Lady, and the Prophet and her faction are anti-Blessed Lady.
>>
>>27988442
>What if the 'sacrifice' didn't die and just bled on everything?
Can we be sure that it was a Magical Girl?
And even if it was, with Pinky drawing out their blood like that, maybe Soul Gem destruction isn't necessary for the soul to be consumed.

Yeah, I was thinking that throughout. And I don't see why the cult would give the tiniest shit about non-MGs - certainly not to earn that insane tirade - so I can only assume she was one.

You know, considering how the Callidus squad we sent for to support us for the Ruri misson keep going on about the Blessed Lady, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that something like half the Officio is compromised by cultists.

And I can imagine the officio descending into civil war as we have to purge the cult.
>>
>>27988456
>Hating fun this much
>>
>>27988486
I think a bit of idol-like behaviour could turn them all around into a cult of personality on Chiaki here. They already percieve her as the shieldmaiden, all we have to do is denounce those preachers as heathens and make ourselves head of the cult, then curb the shit out of their murderous tencencies.
>>
>>27988497
I can get behind this.
>>
>>27988486
>All of the Officio is cultists
>Even Kyuubey
>We are the only ones not in the know
>...Well, maybe Sallaka too.
>>
>>27988486
You're not thinking right, anon. They revere Chiaki. And only a few of them have any kind of contact with Pinky. We simply purge those (Wendy and, if shadowruns are right for once, Mami potentially excepted) then take control of it ourselves! Rule #1, no worshipping, just believing is enough. Rule #2, no sacrifices. Rule #3, be nice!
>>
>>27988497
I wonder how the cult would react to Chaiki saying something along the lines of "I'd really like nothing more than for your goddess to find a place to live that isn't inside my timestop and to stop fucking up my shield."
>>
>>27988497
>then curb the shit out of their murderous tencencies.
Actually, aren't their murderous tendencies the result of Pinky's manipulation and corruption of their minds through these rituals? I think they're already all compromised.
>>
>>27988548
Party in Murderface's shield!
>>
>>27988411
Gotta love it. It's why we love yanderes; they remind us of ourselves.
>>
I want to clear something up here. Why is everyone suddenly getting their purge on for Wendy? Because she (rather reluctantly) stabbed a bound sacrifice that, if it were a Magical Girl, may possibly still be alive? Because we already knew our ex was at least as crazy and murderous as we are, so that alone can't be it.
>>
>>27988620
This is true. Hell, we already know we regularly splattered captured magical girls in the Silent Room as Murderface.
>>
>>27988620
For me, it's that, reluctant or not, she still willingly aided Pinky in her plans. And I don't like the sound of her plans.
>>
>>27988620
Because TT is full of wimpy jellybeans. Wendy did that for Chiaki, so as far as we're concerned, we have her complete loyalty. Only those who will get in our way of saving Pinky need to be removed, Wendy stays.
>>
>>27988682
Technically we're still aiding Pinky in her plans.
>>
It's...it's from that unlisted number, again. The one that sent you that message, way back in Iori's suite. In Midori's illusion. Asking you to wake up. The message before that told you to give up, and move on.

The message now was no different, no less cryptic.

No less irritating.

>Don't bother with the procedure. It's not worth trying. It's not worth the risk.
>No matter what you do, the outcome will be the same.
>You should just give up. Isn't it time you gave yourself a break?

>Who the hell are you?

You tap at the SEND button, ignoring that small and often-ignored logical part of you that said that there is no way that message is going through. Kharn said it herself - if the reception inside the base didn't suck, what with you being deep underground, then any outgoing signal would probably be heavily dampened to the point of uselessness. But logic, right now, clearly wasn't working, with this nameless ray of sunshine able to send you a message.

The message goes through.

And the reply pops up immediately after. Surprise surprise, it's as cheerful as ever.

> My identity is not important. Only my message is important.
> The real Akemi Homura would have understood. She would have known that it was hopeless.
> Let this be the last time you try to do the impossible.
> Let this be the end. You cannot save her. You cannot save anyone.

>A Fool.

So, who was this? Wendy?
>>
>>27988666
>>27988620
Because it happened right in front of everyone's eyes? Look, everyone knows Mami is evil to some degree, she LIKESmurdering people, any sort of people. It is the entire reason why she is so good at fighting and killing. Yet we don't care. That's easy because we never saw her do any right in front of our eyes. If you had twenty pages of Mami: After Action Reports lying around you'd be thinking of her very differently.

Also Wendy is clearly not only nuts (that was clear since day one) but also very very possessed and may not be in control of her actions anymore. And that's a loose cannon you can't have kicking about.
>>
>>27988666
Theres a difference between killing people and twisting their souls into the service of a batshit insane goddess.
>>
>>27988682
>willingly
I'm not sure this counts as willingly. After all, Pinky's been throwing her voodoo magic at Wendy for quite some time. And even without that, Pinky's got her existance in her hands, both being responsible for her living, and easily able to cause her death.
>>
>>27988708
Doubtful. She wouldn't have known "the real Akemi Homura."
>>
>>27988708

We don't know for sure yet, but there's a chance that it might have been Malal, since she was shown tinkering around with phone programs and encryptions during the Kharn flashback.
>>
>>27988744
It doesn't sound like anything Malal would say...

Look, one or two murders are neither here nor there. Hell, I bet we could forgive Lucius if we overthink it a bit.

Here's my proposal: We rename Wendy Cooldown Wendy Stabbby Mcstabby, and we make a rule that whenever she starts stabbing people all we need to do is say "STABBER NO STABBING" and she stops.

How's that for compromise?

>>27988906

HONORED COURT I AM HERE TO HOLD THE DEFENSE OF ONE WENDY COOLDOWN, MAGICAL GIRL BY PROFESSION, FUCKING NUTS BY REBIRTH.

AS WAS MADE KNOWN OVER THE COURSE OF THIS TRIAL SHE DID INDEED MURDER A FELLOW MAGICAL GIRL IN COLD BLOOD. HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A CASE FOR HER NOT BEING IN POSESSION OF HER MENTAL AND BODILY FACULTIES IN FULL WORKING ORDER AT THAT VERY TIME, IN FACT THEY WERE IN POSESSION OF ONE MADOKA "FAUST" KANAME WHICH WILL BE ADRESSED IN ANOTHER TRIAL VERY SOON.

I HEREBY WANT TO SUGGEST THAT HER PUNISHMENT BE LENIENT AND REFLECTIVE OF HER CURRENT STATUS. ONE AND A HALF YEARS OF SILENT ROOM PAIRED WITH RE-EDUCATION TO PURGE HER MIND AND A WALPURGISNACHT TREATMENT OF HER SOUL GEM IN ORDER TO RID HER OF ANY LASTING INFLUENCE OF AFOREMENTIONED INDIVIDUAL.

THE DEFENCE RESTS, YOUR HONOR.

Maybe we need to get Midori on the case.
>>

Pretty sure it was actually Pinky who resurrected her because of the emptiness and cold she always feels

We do need to do something to sever Pinky's control over Wendy though she would be too useful in murderfucking this cult to pieces to just kill
>>
>>27989111
Well to be fair, it's possible (though unlikely due to context) Wendy came back normally too; everything else could have been manipulation/corruption after the fact.
>>
>>27989111

And the way I see it, Wendy is our gal on the inside of the cult. We find this out IC, give her the sign and she purges the more maniacal members for us.

You may need to read up on correlation!causation anon. Just because she's a loon that gets off on gore, doesn't mean she did this BECAUSE she gets off on gore. She clearly has an understanding of how fucked up it is, and very good self-control in most cases. I'd imagine that's why she took up MGing in the first place, for a chance to direct her urges at more deserving targets (whether that worked out or turned out to be entirely too optimistic, well that's another matter).

>“…And she’ll remember me…?” …I mumbled it out loud. I didn’t mean to. My mind had gone entirely numb, save for Her words.
>She’ll always remember you, Wendy.

As in, she thinks that through murder she'll get her chance at Chiaki and thus the warmth. Basically she needs a purpose to devote herself to.
>>
>>27989413
Does it matter where the crazy comes from? Not really. In the end she's still a mad dog and needs to be put down.

>>27989430
Which currently is Pinky.
>>
>>27989325
Even if the warmth was Pinky-induced, there's zero reason to think that it's a make-or-break kind of thing. If anything it's just Pinky's method of conditioning so that she can control her better, feeding her already unnatural obsession with murder and stabbing so it eclipses her reason, judgement and Chiaki-obsession. And given the series of events in this write-up, I'd hardly say it's gotten to that point yet - while she appreciated the kill once it was done, she never felt compelled to do it by that need for warmth or whatever. Only her wish for Chiaki actually convinced her to do it, there's none of the addict's desperate craving in >>27987972
>>
>>27989454

>>27989488
Magical Girls, redemption, saved Karn from a witch barrier, yada yada.

>>
>>27989454
Actually it does matter, she has inside info on Pinky's plans and her entire cult so killing her loses us all the information and the chance to use her to wipe it out in one shot by using Wendy

And on her own she is no more crazy or broken than Chiaki, are we going to put a bullet in our own soul gem as well because of that?
>>
Whatever the result, I vote that this whole shitstorm ends in Chiaki flipping out in front of the cults.

"Fuck YOU, fuck YOU, fuck YOU, and ESPECIALLY fuck you Wendy for being enough of a dumbshit to believe anything that crazy bitch says!"
>>
>>27989503
>change the others mind.
I can accede to that point.

>>27989509
But she won't ever be alone, because Pinky is inside her gem.
>>
>>27989488
She didn't exactly do it against her will, she simply didn't resist when she was presented with the hope that the one she loves will love her again.

So... You have to wonder, just how many apostles are there? There is no way Wendy is the only one, is there?
>>
>>27989488
How does that follow exactly? I just reasoned out why she's NOT Pinky's sockpuppet, even if Pinky obviously has a hold on her - that hold is only through Chiaki, which means that there's still a decent chance it can be broken. And anyway, to be reluctant enough that Pinky has to step in personally to convince her, combined with her obvious lack of reverence for Pinky, are more than good enough indicators that she's nowhere near the level of fanaticism of other Blessed Lady goons.
>>
>>27989526
Pinky's also inside our timestop. I fail to see how it's relevant.
>>
>>27989526
And? We have a piece of walpurgisnacht in our gem and Midori has us controlling her gem

There are ways to get around that shit already in universe so it isn't the end of everything

If we take too long and she ends up fully under her control then we will need to but while Wendy is still Wendy and able to think and even object to what she is doing then she is redeemable
>>
>>27989554
Our timestop is an ability we can just not use.

Not using your soul, your very being, is a bit hard.
>>
>>27989589
>Our timestop is an ability we can just not use.

Didn't Pinky force it to activate at least once? There's also the time where she made it tick like a motherfucker when she wanted to talk to us, and she got pissy when we didn't respond.
>>
>>27989624
Yep, on the way home from Siberia she dragged us into time stop because she wanted screen time
>>
>>27989624
The easier explanation is: she views Chiaki different from Wendy and all the other pawns. She has no objection to just forcing them to serve her without question, but she wants to break Chiaki the proper way, with their 'game'. That's why Chiaki is a-okay with the timestop, and Wendy and the rest are in danger.
