You are Yuri Ivanov a Corporal in the Tesenturian Reserve Guard who after attempting to save your best friend’s life you’ve been sent into the unknown country called Tristain, a place where the existence of magic and mages exist.

Yeah…magic.

However, despite this realization and after the consumption of an unknown quantity of alcohol you’ve somewhat grown used to your environment and with no way to get home in the foreseeable future you’ve decided to immerse yourself in various activities.

Like helping Half-Pint impress the Princess of the land by joining a talent contest and by some miracle try to win it.

However, for the moment that becomes a secondary concern in your mind as you eyed a familiar looking object strapped on one of the escorts to the princess.

A pistol.

“Hey Louise.” You managed to get out of Kirche’s grip and kneeled down low enough to whisper in her ear. This was enough for her to immediately jump up in surprise breaking whatever was plaguing her mind.

“Wha-What is it, Yuri?” She looked at you her eyes narrowed an act more out of reflex than actual agitation when you surprise her.

“Look near the carriage.” You muttered as you pointed into that direction. “You see the blond?”

“Yeah, but I don’t see what’s the big deal.” She replied back her brows furrowed wondering why you pointed her out when all the activity is going on.

“Look closely at what she’s carrying.” You muttered point at the point of interest. “Does it look familiar?”
It took a few moments but she began to piece it together and turns to look at you. “Isn’t that?”

You nod. “Yeah, though not as efficient it is similar to that as my pistol.”
>>
>>27989186

“Then why point that out to me then?” She asked as her brow rose slightly probably having an idea of what you want to ask but waiting in order to confirm it.

“I want to see if I can set a meeting with her.” You replied pausing for a moment before asking “So can you help me out here?”

“You do know she’s part of the Princess’s royal escort they won’t just drop their duty for idle chatter.”

“Yeah about that. I was hoping that you could get the princess to arrange a meeting….” You suggested but it withered as you now noticed the girl glaring quite annoyed at you.

“The princess is a very busy individual and to even try to suggest that you try to use my connections to her to set up a meeting just to get a shiny new weapon, I may have misjudged you.” She replied a bit of heat in her tone. She then turned her head away from you as she mumbled something to herself and then turned to you.

“If you want to meet with the princess then maybe if you win the contest you may be able to sneak a quick request.” She said flatly, as she began to walk out with the crowd as the greeting ceremony was now over.
In a couple of hours the contest will begin.

I suggest OP gets a twitter if he wants to build up a follwoing
>>
>>27989198
Well, let's make sure our guitar is properly tuned and get some last min practice in. We have a hard fought battle ahead if we want to win.
>>
>>27989198

"We'll then It'll be no problem if I win right?"

>>27989559
is a good idea. Make sure everything is perfect.

Also yeah OP a twitter would be wondrous. Almost missed this thread.
>>

Hey OP, will you still run this quest if we go completely off the rails?

I'll consider it, I have my misgivings about twiter but I'll do my best.

I have a twitter soley for following quests. It's nice cause you can just make quest related posts. And it allows people to ask questions without needing a thread.
>>
>>27989198
"It's more of a case of curiosity really."
>>
>>27989198
"Well if you really want to win that badly there's a couple of ways we could go in for "ALL-IN" gamble, where I'll either do incredibly well or incredibly poorly."
"First that I don't recommend is that we'll try to play into the unconfirmed theory that Colbert had about my runes. Chances are it'll fail horribly as there is literally no evidence to back his theory up."

"Second is that I could try to deploy a massive culture shock by starting to pull popular music genres out of my arse that aren't supposed to exist yet and claim that I composed them myself, which would make me the artist that revolutionized music if it plays out perfectly."
"This of course could backfire as history is littered with artists that came ahead of their time and got no glory."

"In the end, it's a curiosity at the most, nothing of major consequence."
>>
>>27989198

You’ve decided to head back to your cabin and make sure that your guitar is well tuned and the strings are well maintained. As an added measure you managed to practice a few songs to test it out over the next couple hours.

You are now pretty sure that you can do pretty well in this competition now though Kirche’s lizard and Tabitha’s dragon is a big obstacle to overcome but your pretty sure you won’t fail on the spot.

When you’re finally done you hear the sounds of the contest starting. You then double-time to the event with guitar in hand and navigate through the large crowds to find Half-Pint. Luckily, it wasn’t so hard to find her though a crowd of students and familiars considering her size she has hair that can easily be recognized.

That recognizable pink hair.

That pink hair.

Huh? Even after all the shit you've seen in this world you're still having a hard time coming to grips with her pink hair.

Well regardless of her hair color you walk towards the Half-Pint and sit next to her. She turned her head to avoid looking at you as you did so obviously a little mad at your suggestion earlier.

What do you say or do now?

>Sorry, couple of things came up

You’ve decided that you that it is better to just sit down and watch the other students and their familiars do their routines. Most of them were a combination of some simple magical obstacles and their familiars doing tricks around said obstacles. For the most part in terms of sparkly, visual magic became more mundane as the novelty wore off. There were a few exceptions to those however and strangely enough these exceptions were from people you are acquainted with.

Monmon did a bubble display as her toad hopped from bubble to bubble occasionally using its tongue to pop a few causing a display of sparkles to rain on the audience. There were others similar to her display but since she was one of the first ones it caused a deeper impression.

Kirche’s was more of a display of pure power and control than anything else as she and Flame literally turned the entire the entire stage aflame. However, did not even so much as scorch the wood let alone themselves as their combined flame turned into a huge wave that soared through the sky before quickly dispersing in a dramatic fashion.

Guiche….was well Guiche. You kind of half-expected him to be posing with his familiar as a talent but for him to actually do it well still surprised you. Even after several other acts after his your still wondering how he managed to surround themselves with sparkles.

Tabitha’s was as expected which in short was impressive. She did a demonstration of her magic and her riding skills to their fullest extent. She used some combination of ice and wind creating some visual displays as her dragon flew through them at full speed, she’d even used some moves that you taught the dragon which brought mixed feelings. Needless to say the judges and the princess were indeed impressed by the end of her act.
>>
>>27997610

By the time everyone else did their act it was your turn after giving an encouraging pat on the back to Half-Pint who seemed nervous after seeing the displays. She quickly composed herself as she introduced your ‘supposed’ musical talents to the judges.

Just sit down on the edge of the stage with maybe one leg hanging off and just play.

"I'm not much of a singer so feel free to throw a shoe if I start to sing."

Start with something very ethnic like Katyusha

or Korobeiniki

Then move onto something nice and peaceful

Then finish with something really upbeat and furious to blow their socks off like The Song of the Golden Dragon.

Since we're apparently shit singers, something without lyrics would be best. And since it's not an electric guitar, we should be mindful of the sound. Something classical, not too short, but not boringly long, either.

>Sorry for the long wait, this post took longer then i thought. Not sure, If I can continue tonight after this but hopefully tomorrow but I might have plans so not sure.

You quietly got on stage with nothing but a stool and guitar in hand. You could hear some of the nobles who had accompanied the princess and even a few of her bodyguards were talking amongst themselves about what was I doing here. The students and some of the staff who are watching you get on stage and have heard some of your practice session look at you unexpectedly.

You took the time to set your stool down and prepared yourself with your fingers at the ready.
“Excuse me; I have prepared a small set of musical piece for your enjoyment.” You stated in a clear professional matter. “I hope it proves to be satisfactory.”

With a curt nod from Half-Pint you begin to play.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRTYkzy2BOM

You started with one that your mostly familiar with back home normally played at the bars when they needed a good non-vocal drinking song before the bar fights begins.

This grabs the students’ attentions who have heard you played this song before during your practices. However, the guests were confused by your piece with some mumbling amongst themselves.

You decided to try another piece.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz51mRUGiEk

Another piece from your homeland to be exact or was it from that popular video game made by the Russians?

Ah, screw it. It’s catchy and it seems even the students are joining in by clapping to the beat and a few of the escorts are looking quite amused.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_mcImD5fJ4

Your next musical piece is one you’re normally not used to playing so it took some time getting used to it. After all, no one wants to hear such slow pieces at least while sober and the last time you did Maya threatened to shank you with a broken vodka bottle.
>>
>>28015311

Luckily, the crowd seems to have taken it more openly then your crazy friend judging by the look on their faces even the guests are now fully immersed by your skills.

You then proceeded to go for the finale.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gphiFVVtUI

The speed of your fingers moving through the strings turns into a blur. The tempo from the music suddenly increases and with that the excitement of the crowd as they see you work. This piece was quite longer than the others and you begin to feel your fingers stinging a little but you pressed on ignoring it. You continued to play and in turn brought your performance at its peak and once finished everyone from the staff, the students, and the nobles applauded. You got off your stool and did a bow until you noticed people throwing flowers at the stage.

And by flowers you mean roses.

And by people you just mean Guiche.

….You really got to ask him how he does that.

Getting off the stage Half-Pint looks at you with her eyes as wide as dinner plates obviously surprised by your performance.

“You think we have a shot now?” You asked with a small grin on your face as you clench and unclench your hand which is quite numb after that performance.

She dimly nods and is quite speechless.

Well there is some time to kill before the judges make their final decision.

>What do you say or do?

>Talk to someone?

Spoilsport.

They already drink wine. Time to toughen them up to something harder.

>>28025168
In the show, Louise has had wine on several occasions, referring to it as such twice. It also comes up in the novel a few times. Guiche and Montmorency had some on their moon viewing date during the first mention of it.

Besides, you have to remember what era this world is in. If we go by history, water wasn't very safe to drink, so even children drank wine and beer, albeit, lighter versions for general consumption. The moralities are much different, too.

Obviously this isn't our world, so I have no idea what they're capable of with their water magic, nor do I ever remember there being mention of the state of plumbing or purifying. Considering the way nobility acts, I'd bet they'd still choose it over water, anyway.
>>
>>28028118
Okay that makes sense. I havn't read the novel nor seen the show in a while so I forgot.

Actually water in medieval ages was relatively clean.
The reason why it was believed otherwise was because in larger towns with slaughterhouses, dying facilities or tanneries that didn't take precautions would find their water supply contaminated.

Medieval people weren't stupid however and realized this, so they generally did take precautions and there were hefty fines for contaminating the water supply.

Having some time before the final decision you’ve decided to get your hand treated. Normally, your hand could deal with some casual playing and performance but seeing that you pushed today your hand feels a bit numb. It shouldn’t be a problem if you were pushed in a fight but it does feel a little uncomfortable and it’s better to get it treated now then later.

You went looking for Siesta remembering that she had managed to get some ice when you got bruised by Guiche during your fight with him. Perhaps she can give you some now if you asked or at least some cold water to cool it down.

You head towards Marteau’s kitchen hoping to catch the maid while trying to avoid as many major as possible. They are probably discussing the contest and who their bids on who would win and you rather not be involved in the middle of it. However, as you make way towards the kitchen you seen no sign of the maid anywhere or the usual help.

Before you decided to head back and wait until the announcements in the corner of your eye you see a small mop of blue hair.

“Oh, Hey Tabitha, You and Slyphid did great today.” You greeted the girl and as always she merely gives you a nod in acknowledgement before moving her head back towards her book. “Speaking of which where did she go?”

She pointed her staff towards the forest and simply stated. “Lunchtime.”

Oh, she must be eating. Considering how she normally acts you sometimes forget that she is a dragon and think of her as some overgrown dog or something. However, before your train of thought goes any further with the subject you feel Tabitha poking your side with her staff in which you find the girl staring at your hand.
>>
>>28043439

“Your hand?”

“Oh this?” You said as you casually waved your numb hand. “Just a bit overworked, it will go away with some cold water or ice.”

She nodded in understanding before she muttered under her breath before you felt a sudden chilling sensation which you instinctively flinched and pulled your hand up.

To see it coated in a very thin layer of ice.

You take a look at your hand then to Tabitha then back to your hand before shrugging in acceptance to the convenience that is magic.

“Thanks Tabitha.” You said to the girl with a smile in which she responds with a nod before once again turning a page. You were about to ask her opinion on your performance however before you had a chance to ask an announcement echoed across the campus which again was probably due to magic.

“Everyone the judging has now been concluded, please return to your seats to hear the results.”

You decide to table the question for now and said goodbye to Tabitha as you make your way back to your seat. Once everyone was settled down you see the Headmaster on the stage his staff in hand which is creating a dim light which you assume is causing his voice to amplify.

“I would like to thank everyone who had participated for this little event today and the princess herself will like to give her regards to all the students and their familiars for the performances today.”

You could hear the students in the background mumbling to themselves obviously pleased to receive praised from the royalty even Half-Pint was smiling a bit as she grasped the edges of her skirt in anticipation.
>>
>>28043456

The headmaster himself let the commotion go on for a couple minutes before calming them down. “However, there is only one prize and thus only one winner however there was some close runner ups so we will like to mention them first as third and second place before announcing the winner.”

He paused taking this moment to rub his beard probably for dramatic effect. “For 3rd place is Kirche the Ardent and her familiar Flame!”

You hear various rounds of applause mostly from the male students as she took the opportunity to take a stand and smile though you could tell she is not all the pleased with third place. Once the applause has died down and Kirche taking her seat the Headmaster continued on to the next runner up.

“For 2nd place are Louise de La Vallière and her familiar Yuri!” You hear a roar of applause coming from your acquaintances from both the student body and staff. Half-Pint herself immediately jumps up both in surprise and perhaps more than a little disappointment but quickly covers it as she shifts to her whole ‘noble’ façade and waves. You yourself opted to just stand and give a small bow before sitting down.

“Finally, for first place are Tabitha of Gallia and her familiar Slyphid.” You then see a standing ovation of the teaching staff, students, and nobles as she calmly walks down through the crowd and steps onto the stage where the princess herself is standing with what appears to be a small crown and a fairly large jewel.

You look to your side and see Half-Pint a bit slumped over and even more depressed.

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>28043466
*Just put a hand on her head or shoulder and smile.* (Not the iced hand btw.)

"Hey second place isn't bad considering it was just me and a guitar versus a wind dragon. Besides I think that placing in the top three is enough to show the princess how good you are."

Fighting a dragon with guitar would make a fantastic song title.
>>
>>28044949

You placed your hand that wasn't icedt iced on her shoulder reassuringly and smile at the depressed Half-Pint. "Hey, second place isn't bad considering it was just me and a guitar versus a fucking dragon. Besides I think that placing in the top three is enough to show the princess how good you are."

Your smile widens more as you remember a tidbit about the girl’s pride and you lean in to whisper this revelation to the Half-Pint.

“Besides this also means you finally beat Kirche.”

Her eyes widen as she now realizes this fact and how she slowly begins to smile in an eerie fashion is a testament that she is also relishing it.

Leaving her creepy smile aside you really think that you got a handle on Half-Pint’s mood and how…simple? For a lack of a better word it is to deal with them.

With this idle thought you lean back in your chair and watch Tabitha received her praises and gifts taking in the relative peace of the scene. Because despite reassuring the Half-Pint you also know that this will later blow up with her feuding with the buxom red head.

Yes, just enjoy the peace….

----

After the celebrations, awards ceremonies, and stopping the eventual bickering between Half-Pint and Kirche over their ranking you were left a bit exhausted. Not in the physical sense such as pulling multiple shifts or being forced to run laps through muddy fields with full gear but more of a psychological sense even having to go through the more easier parts of the day such as congratulating Tabitha and Slyphid. Which the former responded with a regular nod while the latter just went for a full body tackle and gave you a tongue bath took lot energy than usual.
>>

Even dinner with Marteau while delicious took some effort to relax as the staff kept patting you on the back and showered you with praises for your performance. However, some including the head chef had slapped your back quite particularly harder than usual though not essentially out of malice. Especially, Marteau who appeared quite red-faced most likely has sampled your work. You also later learned from Siesta that there was a small betting pool in whether or not you’ll win and Marteau and the others had shelled some coin on your behalf in confidence.

You don’t know whether to feel bad for them or laugh at the thought of actually beating a dragon with a guitar.

….You choose to give a verdict at a later time.
After all that’s said and done you finally reach your cabin and get ready to turn yourself in for the night.

Highest Roll 13

Before you even had a chance to turn the knob of the door you’ve noticed a very dim light in the corner of your eye. You turn your head and focused your sight on the small source of light across the vast darkness of the field. You remember that by now most of the students should be back in their dorms and most of the staff is cleaning up after the day’s activities so seeing someone now is a little odd.

As your eyes adjust to the light which you recognize as a small lantern you catch a small glimpse of the user.

A slightly feminine shaped figure though even with the light makes it hard to determine as a fact and any other features are concealed by a brown cloak and hood.

And she’s headed towards Half-Pint’s dorm…

You sighed not really wanting to deal with this right now but considering the situation you have to check if only for peace of mind. After checking to make sure your revolver is loaded and secured in your holster you begin to walk towards the cloaked figure.

Once you’re sure that you’re within the range of the cloaked figure view. The person barely registers you before moving on to the dorm.

"Ah-hem. Kinda late for a student to be out and about, wouldn't you say?" You said while pretending to cough to grab the cloaked figures attention which it did as the person turn towards you.

“Good thing I’m not a student then.” The person replied pulling the hood out to reveal her short blond hair and her piercing gaze. “Do you need something because I’m in a hurry?”

"It seems highly suspicious that someone of the royal guard, and much less a member of the musket corp would be skulking about at night around the dorms.” You stated causing the women to raise a brow at you her expression showing slight surprised before she starts laughing right at your face.

“A Corp.” She replied as the laughter died down before a bitter expression washed over. “Tch, I wish.”

She looked like she was about to spit out something vile but immediately composed herself before facing you with a look of indifference though her tone was anything but. “What about you? Seems highly suspicious that a bard will be walking around near a dorm filled with delicate young ladies….”

You crack a smile and gave an impassive shrug. “Consider me a guard dog then.”
You then stick your thumb and pointed it behind you where your cabin laid in that direction. “Got a doghouse and everything.”

For a moment her expression became crossed between wanting to laugh and maintaining her professionalism which was already broken before by your previous comment in which the latter won out as she sighed.
>>
>>28059813

“Well then you still didn’t answer my question.” You decided to steer back to the original subject giving her an impassive look. “What are you doing here?”

She returned your look if only more of a pointed glare if anything. “It is not any of your business.

“Guard dog…, kind of is.” You quip back causing her brow to twitch slightly before scratching her head in irritation.

“Please tell me you’re joking.”

“Bark….”

She sighs again before turning her back towards you. “Whatever, just need to find someone and this is probably the first place she’ll be.”

She then takes a moment to turn her head towards you. “Unless you can sniff her out in some other direction.”

“I’m part of the Princess’s personnel escort.” She replied while giving you a even stare. “Who do you think?”

“Fair enough.” You said as you raise your hands in submission. “Follow me; I’ve a good idea where she is.”

You motion her to follow as you lead her into the girl’s dorm and travel up the spiral staircase until you reached Half-Pint’s door and politely knock on it.

“Miss Valliere, please open up.” You politely asked the owner of the dorm remembering not to say your personnel nickname for her and after a few moments she cracks open the door enough for her eye to peek out.

“Yu-Yuri, what are you doing here.” She asked surprised by your visit considering ever since you gotten your own place you rarely visit her room especially at night.

“Just wondering if you had any guests in your room?” You simply asked, a small smile spreading across your face.

“W-Why will you think that?” She stuttered a response not expecting this line of questioning or just really bad at lying or a combination of both. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”

“Princess, Are you there?” The guard cuts you off obviously a little impatient by you conversation between yourself and the Half-Pint.

“Agnes?” A voice comes within Half-Pint’s dorm prompting her to force the door open revealing the princess sitting in a chair with a small tea set in front of her on a table.

“Sorry about this.” You sighed scratching the back of your head meekly. “but she followed me back and just couldn’t shake her off.”
She shake you’re before smiling a bit awkwardly. “Can I keep her?”

Both Half-Pint and the Royal Guard member look like you were insane but you kept on smiling until a sudden thought hits and you look to Half-Pint and to the Princess then back at Half-Pint your eyes widen in realization as you quickly frown.

“How ignorant of me.” You said as you bowed down to Half-Pint trying to sound sincere as possible. “I was not aware that you are having a romantic rendezvous with the princess. Please forgive me and I shall excuse myself so that you may conti-“

Before you can continue you suddenly felt a forceful tug on you’re the collar of your shirt as you are pulled down to Half-Pint’s eye level which to even your surprised was quite shorter than even you had expected.

“Yu-Yu-Yuri, Have you’ve been drinking again!” She screeched her face as red a tomato, her brow twitching rapidly.

“Always Ma’am.” You replied coolly not missing a beat smiling so wide even the Cheshire cat will be proud. “Though never enough to be intoxicated.”

You yawn.

“A bit sleepy though it has been a long day.”
You don’t know what is going through her head but your pretty sure she doesn’t either as you see her react on instinct.
>>
>>28071369

Which involved a lot of yelling and shaking you down by your collar and by shaking you down more like wrinkling your uniform due to the relative difference between your size and strength and hers.

This lasted for a couple of minutes until it was broken by the Princess laughing in which broke Half-Pint’s hazing rage as she turned around flustered, her hands still on the collar of your shirt pulling it down as much possible in an effort of trying to make you bow.

“I’m sorry Princess; he’s usually never like this…” She stammers but before she continued on with would have bit a whole speech worth of apologies the Princess merely raises her hand to stop her.

“Please Louise, Don’t call me Princess we have been friends ever since we were children and it feels a little lonely to have you be so respectful even when we are alone.” She said, a small smile etched on her face before she turned her head towards you. “And with that said it had been quite some time that I had honestly laughed so I thank you….”

She paused for a moment which you take it that she didn’t catch your name.

And you thought your performance today was quite memorable as well.

"Corporal Yuri Ivanov of the Tesenturian Reserve Corps Ma'am and currently acting as a familiar to Miss Valliere.” You introduced yourself as you raised your hand in salute and broke off of Half-pint’s grip to properly stand at attention. Both the bodyguard and the Princess raised an eyebrow at you before what you assume might be their etiquette to return the introduction.

“Agnès Chevalier de Milan, Captain of the Musketeers.” The Blond guard stated simply returning the gesture.

“My name is Heinrietta de Tristain, Crown Princess of the Tristian Royal Family.” The princess introduced herself with a simple yet elegant nod. Even you are wondering how a nod of the head could be elegant.

Must be the whole royalty thing…

Speaking of which shouldn’t this be a big deal like meeting some sort of famous person or something? But doesn’t it seem a bit underwhelming?

However, one is a commanding officer of a military unit and the other is a bit of a underwhelming presence is still a high level diplomatic figure so you must show some proper etiquette befitting of a proper Tesenturian Soldier.

You rummage you kit and pulled out your wineskin and extended it towards them.
“Want some?”

Which is to offer them a drink.

“Yu-Yuri!” Half-Pint stuttered and from what you can tell is judging that what you’re doing is very improper but the Princess merely smiled and shook her head.

“Thank you, but I’m fine for now.”

“On duty right now so I also have to refuse.” Agnes also declined your offer in which you sighed before pulling the cord and sipping from the wineskin reminding yourself to fill this with your own brew sooner or later.

“A-anyway Princess.” Half-Pint spoke up changing the subject her bravado suddenly in full swing. “Do not worry about a thing; I’ll handle everything so rest at ease.”

“Louise…” The Princess looks at her friend sadly.
>>
>>28081311

“It’s fine, as a noble it is my duty to serve the royal family but more importantly you are my precious friend so I won’t abandon you in your time of need.”

You’re not too sure what they are talking about in which you assume it must have been their earlier conversation before you and Agnes showed up.

However, a small throbbing in your temple spiked up when Half-Pint said ‘as a noble’.
You have a bad feeling.

I'll start writing in a bit but quick question.

Isn't a snaphence and doglock an early iteration of the flintlock?

Essentially they are similar but the earlier ones were either too expensive or not as reliable as the flintlock?
>>
>>28087917
yeah snaphence and doglock were earlier versions of a flint lock. And they were simply a regional precursor to the flinklock. Dog from England and snaphance from the Dutch. They were simply different. The Doglock had an external safety, and the snaphance had a pan cover which opened automatically when it was time to fire.
>>
>>28087917
Snaphance is basically a flintlock, but it doesn't have open pan like a flintlock that you put the frizzen on top of to cover the powder.

Instead of covering the pan with the frizzen, the snaphance has an automated cover that opens when you fire the thing.

Snaphance was more complicated, but the benefit of it was that you could carry it loaded and it was ready to fire with the pull of a trigger, where as with flintlock if the Frizzen gets hit by something, the powder could fall from the pan.

Snaphance was more expensive so it wasn't very popular as cavalries already had wheellocks.
It's basically a flintlock built to fulfill the same purpose that a wheellock had, to have a gun that's ready to fire when you need it.

Snaphance or wheellock were basically the best type of muskets for cavalry if I'm not mistaken, then again I'm no historian.

Well you could ask her what she gotten herself into later right now there is something you want to ask the royal guard ever since you’ve seen her.

“Hey Agnes what type of firing mechanism do your pistols used?” You asked earnestly causing her to raise an eyebrow before glaring at you.

“Why do you want to know?”

You raise your hands defensively in the air trying not to appear threatening. “it’s nothing much, just pure curiosity and a rather healthy interest in firearms. “

Half-Pint took the moment to cough as you said that and turned her head avoiding your gaze when you looked at her.

Cheeky brat.

Agnes frowns for a moment contemplating the idea before she shakes her head and sighs.

“Wouldn’t hurt to just tell you.” She decided before pointing to her pistols still holsters on her sides. “As you can see these are the flintlock pistols and the top of the line in the Tristain’s armory.”

She stated it as fact rather than fact rather than a boast even the expression on her face looks like she is a bit frustrated as she said it.

You yourself are a little surprised at the firearm. Initially when you had talked to Colbert when you had first gotten here he recognizes it for what it was but told you they were uncommon in this country. You assumed they were equipped with matchlock or some early form of wheel lock considering the technology you have seen or lack thereof and the information he given you.

In short it was rather surprising to see such an advancement well all things considered.

It was at this moment the Princess stood up from her seat and curtseyed toward yourself and Half-Pint.

“Well then I must be going then.” She said cheerfully as she turned towards you. “It was a pleasure meeting you.”

>What do you say or do?

>Anything you want to ask them before they leave.
>>
>>28113575

Salute as the princess leaves.

"It was a pleasure to meet you too as well."

Turn towards Agnes.

"You might want to look into small wax covered paper packets to contain the powder and bullet. Should shave off a little time reloading."

(and if she asks why or how we know)

tap the side of our nose or hold up a finger to our mouth
"A secret trick from a superior officer. of mine."
>>
>>28113748
yeah sure, why not.

>>
>>28113848
Yea, me neither.
We could say something like "I guess it's only fair that I'll show you mine now that you've showed me yours" and when she asks how do we know this, reveal the holster that's carrying our revolver.

I don't think there's much to be gained from that though.
>>
>>28113748
This, and add on that you'd like to talk more with her about guns in the future.

Yuri Ivanov, revolutionizing the firearms industry of this world. When the time comes for war with Albion, and later, Gallia, it'd be nice to have a squad (hopefully under our leadership) outfitted with more efficient weaponry.

I mean unless we get paid really well, I don't support this action.

We can give them little hints. Small ideas that can help.

From my PoV Yuri would be a little sympathetic towards Tristain. Boxed in, less powerful, and surrounded by way more powerful nations. But at the same time we don't want to completely upset the power balance by introducing major ideas to them.

I'd suggest some scenes but at that point I might as well just run the quest myself. You have taken some good strides forward in terms of quality since this began. Posts definitely longer and better detailed. Grammar isnt atrocious anymore though there are still some moments every now and then which could use a tweak or two. Actually a really good way to check for errors in grammar is to read the post out loud, and make sure to pronounce everything. It helps when you accidentally leave a fragment in or a word doesn't fit quite right.

"It was a pleasure to meet you too as well." You saluted the princess in response before making way for her to exit with her bodyguard shortly following suit.

Until you blocked her path.

“What do you want?” Agnes said a little irritated at your sudden interruption of her duties.

“Just a bit of helpful advice from one firearm enthusiast to another.” You said a small smirk on your face and you lean forward towards the guard. "I suggest you look into small wax covered paper packets to contain the powder and ball. Should shave off a little time reloading."

She raises her eyebrow momentarily with a brief look of consideration on her face before shifting back to her indifferent expression. “Your proof?”

“A secret trick from a superior officer of mine.” You muttered a brief shiver went through your spine at the image of her when you mention her. “Uses this method to great effect. “

You suppress the images on how well she used a rifled musket as you told the royal guard who in turn brings a hand up to her chin in deep thought before looking back at you. “I’ll consider it if I’m able.”

You nod and smiled before getting out of her way and exchanged goodbyes. Once she is out of sight you quietly closed the door and turn to Half-Pint, the small throbbing when you briefly remember what she said.

>Now what do you say to her

Unfortunately even if we got one we would not really be able to use it. While we may be glandalfr we can't operate a tank by ourselves. Not to mention ammo and fuel. An artillery piece on the other hand we can do. Especially if it's one of the modern ones. Unfortunately most vehicles require two or more people. Unless we got our hands on a chopper with weapons linked to the control stick like an old huey or a single seat attack heli like a Ka-52 Hokum, choppers would be out of the question for fighting. A half-track we could easily do. That's open enough that we could jump from driver to gunner and vice versa with no trouble. Although with the apparent likelihood of any more items crossing over it's more than likely all that we'll get is more small arms. Though if I had to make a wishlist for any specific weapons an mg 42 would be right up there along with an m2 or m9a1 flame thrower and a ptrd/s.

If you can't guess I like weapons that are very distinct when you use them. Especially ones that make the poor fuckers scream

"So what exactly did you volunteer to do for the princesses?” You wearily asked Half-Pint as the tension you were unknowingly have been holding leaving your body making you more tired than before. “You act like you’re going to get the biggest and shiniest medal ever for this."

She glares at you for making that last comment before folding her arms staring at you at eye level.

Or tries to considering the size difference.

“I’m not doing this for praise for medals.” She said as a matter of fact. “I’m doing this not only for my country’s safety and for my best friend’s reputation.”

That already doesn’t sound good.

“Just tell me what you’re doing in service to your friend and country.” You sighed the throbbing becomes a bit more annoying but fortunately is more of a discomfort than anything else.

“I’m going to deliver a letter to the Prince of Albion.” She replied and you in turn look at her wearily thinking there must be more to this than being a messenger. “So I will be travelling there and locate him to ensure the message will reach his hands.”

“There is something more to this you’re not telling me.” You said still holding your gaze at the pink haired mage. “If it’s something as merely delivering a letter the princess could send some sort of messenger or royal courier or something.”

She shakes her head disagreeing with you. “She can’t, the matters involved here are rather….delicate to say the least and cannot be trusted to anyone in the royal court without being noticed so she confided her worries to me feeling helpless.”

She then sits on the foot of her bed as she sighed. “So as a noble and as her friends knowing the dangers of leaving this alone, I’ve decided to go give this letter myself.”

“Still doesn’t explain what does this have to do with your country’s safety?” You pressed causing her to look away.
>>
>>28139721

“I can’t tell you that will relate to the more intimate details of my princess’s worries which were between just me and her.” She murmured.

Highest Roll 16

"Look, if I'm going to get blasted around by magic voodoo and such things then I want to know what I'm doing it for." You explained though normally you’ll leave such things alone but considering the situation now every bit of information is precious.

“Wha-What? I didn’t say you were coming.” Half-Pint replied surprised by the suggestion you were.

“Really….” You deadpanned. “You were expecting to go at it alone in what I assume is possibly hostile territory.”

You cross your arms. “Its hostile territory isn’t it?”

She reluctantly nods.

Of course it is.

“The country is currently at Civil War in which the Albion Royal Family is battling with the rebels.” She explained her tone disgusted by the very fact.

“And the Royal Family is losing.” You guessed which she nods.

“I wish for it otherwise but it’s only a matter of time before their completely wiped out.” She sighed. “And the Princess is also bearing the full weight of these actions.”

“How so?” You asked while the idea of civil war is not an uncommon thing even back home you don’t see how this relates between Albion and Tristain.

“The Princess is having an arranged marriage with the Emperor of Germania.” She spat out with disgust. “A well-known womanizer but has a strong military.”

“So this marriage is to make use of Germania’s military?” You filled in the gap before hazarding another guess. “To make a united front against Albion and save the Albion Royal Family?”

She shakes her head. “Not quite, It’s frustrating to admit it but our country does not have a strong military and once the rebels are finished with the Royal Family in Albion…”

“The Royal Court here is afraid they’ll target Tristain next.” You nodded in understanding. “It’s a defensive pact but I still don’t understand how going to Albion and giving the prince there a letter has anything to do with the arrangements made.”
>>
>>28148370

“That’s because of the Princess’s private affairs with the prince.” She explained. “They were secretly courting each other for quite some time without anyone knowing and he might have a collection of letters or others objects that the princess had given to him which will come to light if the rebels get to him.”

“This will cause the wedding to be broken off leaving Tristain to defend itself against an invasion alone.” You finally pieced together the last of the puzzle. “Thus we have to go in and make sure he has cut off ties with the princess or at least get rid of the evidence.”

She grimaced slightly. “She did not say it like that. I think she wants to save him to take him back here in Tristain.”

You only nod in reply not willing to mention the various things that could go wrong.

Goddamit, going to a hostile foreign country in a possibly hostile and foreign world for some type of secret diplomatic mission is way above your pay grade.

This cannot get any more messed up.

Highest Roll: 1

The door suddenly slams opens a small whirlwind of rose petals blasting through the entrance as a figure stands in the middle of it, a rose wand in his hand, posing in a really obnoxious manner.

“Do not worry for I, Guiche de Gramont have heard the Princess’s plight and am willing to offer my humble services to the cause.”

You really have to stop doing that…

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>28148405

"Guiche I'm not even going to ask what you we're in the girls dorm, much less at the door. But I won't turn down a helping hand in this situation. No offense to you Louise but any magic is better than none."

We should ask professor colbert or one of the teachers about the specifics of transmutation. Because it seems to me that they can transmute elements, such as brass and what not. If we could transmute phosphorus, specifically the white we could make some seriously dangerous weapons.

(In my minds eye I'm seeing home made WP grenades, or even a rigging for a WP bomb for the A6M5)

Also we hit auto-sage
>>
>>28148720
Also

"So Louise when do we leave?"

Regardless of when we need to have the grease gun read and operational by the time we leave. I suggest maybe setting up a target with Prof Colbert watching and throw five rounds rapid at a target to do a few things

1. Make sure the gun is working properly.
2. Test out Colbert's theory.
3. Show Colbert what our weapons are truly like.
>>
>>28148765
Auto-Sage?

Does that mean, we have to start a new thread?

Just make the next post from you in a new thread.

I know it will be a while before you start a new thread due to your schedule so you may want to use this opportunity to post a twitter for the quest so we can know when you make the thread. That way more people can follow the quest.

That was the plan after this thread. So i'll make my next post then but will try to keep this thread alive for a bit longer to see about a consensus.

Should we start to try to mess with this revolution by attempting to splinter it into factions?

Soldiers: Don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel; who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate; only the unloved hate, the unloved and the unnatural.

Soldiers: Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written, "the kingdom of God is within man" -- not one man, nor a group of men, but in all men, in you, you the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.

Then, in the name of democracy, let us use that power! Let us all unite!! Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie! They do not fulfill their promise; they never will. Dictators free themselves, but they enslave the people!! Now, let us fight to fulfill that promise!! Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness.

Soldiers: In the name of democracy, let us all unite!!!
