A long, harsh draw of rich smoke plumes out only a moment later, gray swirling into the dimming sky above. You watch it for a moment as it fades into the air, and as much as you'd like to think of something prophetic, you can't really channel your inner Socrates.

Especially knowing now that he's still living as a rather dirty old drunkard immortal inside the remains of the great library of Alexandria.

That, and you are honestly pretty tired.

After all; this entire journey, from start to now, had been incredibly and understandably exhausting.

“You're hardly out of it now, mortal, I can promise you that. Or would you rather I sadly lament at your ill fortune and put you back down into that deep dark sea?”

A rather uncharacteristically amused voice from behind an almost indistinguishable smile, just as out of place on those features that had inspired men to worship it as a god. Behind those slightly unnerving purple eyes.

“Women vent out their frustrations. Men internalize everything and live and die an island. Not my fault you somehow wound up stranded on mine.” You flick the ash from your cigarette and push yourself back to your feet. “You can stay on the monkey infested side.”

Stretching now, you feel much more back in your own skin. Gone are the stuffy, out of place clothes, and you are truly back in your element now.

“You feel that good about that ugly shirt, mortal?”

You raise an eyebrow toward the enigma floating beside you, on her back in the air, as though bored.

“Don't lie, you know it looks good.”
>>
Unable to fight it now, a smirk cracks and flourishes across your rugged, manly (at least you'd describe them that way) features. Partially because you're glad even this coming hurdle hasn't dragged you down, but mostly because you're back in a floral Hawaiian.

For as much of a pain and annoyance as this floating, aloof and mysterious witchy woman can be, you've gotten rather used to her. Perhaps more than used to her, maybe you even enjoy her company. At the very least, you like the fact you aren't currently fish food anchored to the ocean floor.

Which, in your book, is always a plus.

“And how about you, blender of behemoths. Not shaken up? Anxious? I mean this could be the biggest fight in what, millenia?”

Kiara's eyes turn from the pale moon above down toward you, and whatever small smile may or may not have been there, is absent now.

“I'm not really sure what to expect. This isn't the first time I've clashed with Arcinter... But I honestly do hope it is the last...” Her eyes darken as she turns herself to stand upright.

“It isn't something I want and certainly not something I'm looking forward to. While I'll be the first to gladly put to rest that cocky attitude of yours, mortal... I hope that this time, it isn't without due reason.” Kiara; Ruin, the destroyer of both Atlantis and Rome, the bringer of the black death adds, without hiding the anxious tone behind her words.

Though the sound of the Hind's engines whining to life resonates through the air, this little solace between the two of you may as well have been silent as a tomb.

“Think he has a plan?” You finally ask.

“Of course he has a plan.” She replies airily, gazing at the sky again.
>>
You almost don't expect her to continue until her lips twinge at the corners, almost as if...

“And I will take great pleasure in destroying that plan, and furthermore, the soon to be late Magos himself. Provided he actually dies, this time around.”

...Excited?

This gives you a bit of pause. You don't often see the great destroyer of birthdays excited. Not to this extent. Not with that sort of look on her usually regal, aloof face.

You don't have long to think about it as the crunch of gravel from behind washes away your budding sense of uncertainty. As you turn around, even the veil of darkness isn't enough to obscure the rough features of Diego, who grins behind an unlit cigar.

“Not until the fat lady sings?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Fuck the fat lady,” Diego rolls the tobacco between his teeth, “C'mon boy. Devil's going down to Georgia.” He jerks his thumb toward the awesome flying angel of death sitting dormant on the runway, her 30mm Gau-8 silent for now.

“But that's North of here...”

“Semantics, kid, now let's roll. Our flight plan is all squared away, now all that's left to do is get there.”

“It's time, Mortal.” Kiara returns her focus to you.

Well, who are you to keep a lady waiting?

It's happening.

It's really happening.
>>
When you finally step onto the waiting Hind attack helicopter, the sight inside is not exactly what you had expected. Your own father, red in the face, is currently laughing so hard the shot glass in his hand has very clearly been spilled all over his own knees. The nearly empty bottle of vodka being passed between the eight men tells the rest of the tale.

“Pre-flight checks?” You inquire. More or less at a scream to be heard over the noise from the old soviet beast.

“Don't worry,” your father brushes aside your concerns, “Ruslan is great pilot!”
You shift your eyes to Ruslan, a rather skinny and short friend of your dad's, who also waves his hand in dismissal.

“Nothing to worry, nothing to worry!” He shakes his head, “Back in Afghanistan, we drink two bottle before mission!”

A fact that does not exactly fill you with confidence as the little aging slav works himself into the pilot seat as his gunner buckles himself in. After all, these men haven't seen real combat in decades, and drug scuffles and hits don't really count.

“Do you still have a pilot license?” Is your first question after donning a headset and finding yourself a seat on the bench. You thought about trying to vie for one of the side machineguns but found both spots quite taken.

“Did I ever have pilot license?” Ruslan asks after a pause.

A question answered by a flurry of retorts in Russian stuttered only by the occasional English curse.

“Oh, well, good.” You raise your eyebrows at Kiara, “I was beginning to lose my confidence.”

Cleaver and witty banter until we get to the part where we kick the mages ass.

Did we ever figure out what he was doing Alexanders body? That was a thing right?

Should have re-read archive threads.

Find a way to blare Flight of the Valkyries from the Hind.
>>
Though the Hind was never known for its great speed, cooking along at some 200 miles an hour, it's certainly faster than traveling by road. You watch the lights of Miami fading behind you as the craft turns north toward Georgia and what awaits you there.

Which is, hopefully, a very alarmed but very alive conspiracy theorist.

And, just as hopefully, an ancient Atlantian wizard who is not nearly as prepared as he thinks he is.

Now you're really wishing you'd gotten a shot at that bottle of vodka before it had been emptied. As apparently, to much lamentation, nobody had remembered a second, third, or tenth. To the point that the crew was almost in full mutiny and you had spent no less than five minutes berating Ruslan that, no, he was not allowed to just “Set her down” in the parking lot of the closest liquor store. Despite several attempts and “Look at how close it is! We go in, we get drink we get in air again, da?”

You're already high enough profile, you think. You cant imagine the local news getting a call about a soviet gunship landing at the Publix being a good thing.

It is a miracle that you all at least remembered cigarettes, a filthy haze now filling the entire aft of the chopper.

“I can't believe you forget vodka.” One of the other men shakes his head at another across from him.

Kiara, for her part, is as quiet as she normally is. Though uncharacteristically restless, it seems, fingers drumming against the side of the craft as she watches out a window.

Though now that you assess yourself, you've burned through half a pack in less than half an hour. Which is likely a new record for you. Good thing you're not exactly worried about lung cancer. If the witchy woman next to you can heal up bullet holes, she can probably do away with a few rogue cells.
>>
>>27989831
Scratch that. Blare Basil Poledouris.
>>
For probably the fourth or so time this trip, you check through your gear. Yes, you already know it's all set. No, that isn't helping your pre-shit-hitting-the-fan jitters.

It had become pretty evident that platinum bullets were going to be both expensive and hard to procure in quantity in any sort of bulk. A problem amplified only further when it had come to light the plethora of calibers first brought forth.

Thus, a bit of standardization had been in order.

Not that you're complaining, as the weapon in your hands is one you are more or less a master of.

Push down safety lever. Pull charging handle. Release charging handle. Pull trigger.

About all it takes to use an AK, whatever derivative it is.

A jet black AK-107, the choice armament for you and the rest of the crew aboard the rumbling gunship. While not exactly spaceship precision, it, like nearly all Russian arms, is about as prone to malfunction as a rock.

And, in fact, makes for quite a formidable club, if pressed into the role.

Paired with it and about equally as formidable, a chattering little piece of death, the PP-2000.

Seated in the magazines layered across your rig, likely the most expensive ammunition load to perhaps ever grace any single man in the history of ever.

Ammunition of platinum. The one thing you know, for sure, is as formidable against magic as it is formidable to the wallet. Staggered in each magazine, a mixture of solid platinum bullets, and fragmenting rounds.

I picked up a series that's kind of like this, and that you might like Papa-N, called Monster Hunter International.
>>
You've experienced firsthand... Second... Well, you aren't exactly sure what to call it, the sensation of platinum harming the mind and soul of the witch currently plugged into you. But you know how painful and debilitating it is. Enough that even the best of the best witches give it as wide a berth as they are able.

“We're on approach to the coordinates. I'm entering a holding pattern. Call in the fire when you need it.” Diego's voice crackles over the comms.

“Everyone know the plan?” One of your father's friends asks, leaning on the AK he has propped on the floor of the chopper.

Ah yes, the plan. While you certainly have a rather imposing arsenal at your disposal; what with an A-10 and Mi-24 loaded for bear, or rather, ancient Atlantian wizard, you can only begin to imagine what Arcinter is bringing to the table.

To complicate matters further, he has himself a hostage. The man who had been such a crucial part in getting you thus far, either by ingenious investigative skills or pure unadulterated paranoia and an unprecedented amount of luck.

Either way, you can't just abandon him now.

>You have 6 heavily armed innebriated Russians as ground forces
>an Mi-24 with full weapons crew
>an A-10 loaded with platinum rounds for its GAU-8
>your own personal armament
>a small but spirited fisticuffs witch
>and the mind and soul of Ruin herself

Against an an enemy you know little about. You know he is a powerful immortal who will possess the nearest body when his own is destroyed. You know he is capable of necromancy and has the body of Alexander. You know he has your friend hostage and is waiting for you to arrive.

>What is your plan?
>>
Oh my god

It's happening
>>
>>27990006
Go in quiet, get Jenson, have the A-10 and Hind cover your escape. If discovered, you and Ruin hold off Arcinter. After they're out bring the pain with the A-10 while you get out.
TL;DR- Go in soft, but ready to kick teeth in.

>>
>>27990006
It's good the have you back, Papa.

Alright. I'll toss my 2 cents in, only to be rapidly shot down.

Our 6 ruskies need to spread out - keeping them together just increases the chance they can all be incinerated, or struck by lightning. We need them to both maintain a perimeter and lock Arcinter down once he's been drawn out. The GAU-8 on the A-10 is hot shit, but a human sized target possessed of otherworldly speed needs to be kept penned in an area for the A-10 to be effective.

The Hind I'm concerned with. Do we know anything about magical projectiles? How fast they travel, what kind are they? If Arcinter can call forth lightning strikes at a whim, that Hind is going down, like it or not. But if he's stuck with fire balls or something, keeping it at an altitude where it can spot and hopefully evade any SAM fire, magical or mundane, while still providing fire support would be great.

We should probably be the decoy that draws Arcinter out, bait or kite him into the platinum crossfire and call up the A-10, after he tries to recover from that, nail him with the Super Falcon Punch and have Loli McFireFist follow up with an uppercut that sends the bastard into Hind-Sight for further insult to injury.

So, query our witch bitch on magical projectiles, please.
>>
"So you've seen the Magos have to use his little immortality jump at least once, right?" You ask the witch, who is currently sitting quietly, patiently. Or at least so she appears now.

"I'd prefer to see it for the last time today, but yes, I have."

"Then do you know anything about the range of it? I mean if we blast him to ribbons here, he can't just jump halfway across the planet, can he?" You ask, rather annoyed at the thought of winning this only to have to watch as some little ghost-Arcinter shoots off to China or something.

"The range of that is dictated by his own magic reserves. Think of it like opening an amphorae. You can still move it while it leaks, but if it takes too long, the vessel runs dry. And no, I don't know what happens to the Arcinter in such a case. I was rather busy escaping the doom of Atlantis myself."

Well, that gives you some comfort. Worst case scenario is he possesses a different body after leaking some of his power. However unless he's hanging around a bunch of undesirables, that would also mean he has the body of someone you know.

"And if this comes down to a magician battle? What can I expect? Rabbit in a hat? Always loved that one."

"Arcinter is, or was, at least, an elementalist. Just as you've seen me focus on life, his focus has always been the raw land. In our final clash, he had whipped up quite the hurricane. I was caught a little off-guard, but I managed to deliver a final blow with a well timed attack of raw magic. Which had the consequence of draining a substantial amount of my power. I'm not in the sort of state I can manage something of that intensity again, but I doubt the Arcinter has regained all he has lost, either."
>>
"You hit him with a magical blast? I didn't realize this had become a..."

"You're severely underestimating what it takes to do something like that. Magic in its purest form, unfiltered by land or beast, is something none but perhaps a half dozen have ever been able to reproduce." Kiara cuts you off, clearly annoyed at the direction you'd taken.

"So difficult and consuming that to even attempt it could drain someone like the little brat here," Kiara gestures at Sarna, who is busy swinging her feet as she toys with a set of thermal goggles, "to the point that it might forever impede their ability to replenish themselves."

This, you mull over for a few moments.

"I'm trying to figure this out. What can he do, then? Make it a little windy? Bit of rain?" You frown.

"A few thousand years ago he could raise colossal waves and split the sky with lightning."

"So we're fighting against an ancient Palpatine? If I pretend to go to the dark side do you think my dad can manage to pitch him into a badly placed reactor vent or something?"

"I didn't realize I'd inhabited the mind of a force user. How lucky of me." Kiara groans.

"Hah! You finally picking up on some of my references, then?"

But your momentary glee is cut short by a hard stare.

"He and I destroyed a city the size of which wasn't seen again until just a few hundred years ago in a single night. I assure you, Mortal, this is hardly a joking matter. I don't know what to expect. A storm? The ground splitting beneath us? Arcinter has the upper hand in that we have to play on his field." Kiara's eyes darken, "This isn't like the one sided encounters we've had so far."
>>
ok, I reviewed the archives, now I just have to catch up on this thread. Almost there...
>>
From what I've gathered so far, you'd prefer to go in first with your ground forces to the rear, while keeping the Hind and A-10 on station to strike?

>>27990515

>>
Ok, finally at the point where I can contribute.

>>27990515
That's probably our best bet. One thing I would note is that it's probably best to keep the Hind as safe as possible. It's not going to be able to do anything the Warthog can't, and more importantly, the Order's going to crash the party eventually, so we're going to want to have a solid escape plan.
We can probably "requisition" something locally, but there might not be a lot left in the immediate vicinity after we're done.
>>
>>27990796
Also, could someone either give me a quick run down of the whole body of Alexander thing, or point me to the right thread? I remember that being a thing, but not any of the specifics, and I don't think it was mentioned in the last three threads.
>>
You've seen Kiara grim and the like before, but not quite to this extent. It's a far cry from how she was acting earlier, seemingly so fired up and ready to rock.

That thought sticks with you and is left unanswered, even as Ruslan breaks the silence.

"I get the feeling that this is it..." The aging slav nearly groans, absent his usual banter.

"What? Is he down there? Let me get a look at... Whoa..."

"Whoa" being all you can mutter as the sight comes into view. You had expected maybe a field or something, with Arcinter standing over your captured friend, holding a pistol to his head. Something more akin to a cheesy 80's flick that would devolve into long monologues as the villain remained unaware of the hero's craftiness.

The spectacle before you leads you to believe that Archey has been expecting you for a bit longer than you'd first anticipated.

"An Atlantean temple?" Kiara mutters, apparently just as shocked as you are.

"Oh well if it's just a fucking ancient temple, nothing to worry about." You bite, unable to stop staring at the impressive pyramid of white marble and flowing water in front of you. How did someone even keep something like this hidden? Even from here you can see that it must be the size of a minor league baseball diamond.

"How have I kept the Library secret for all this time, Mortal? Magic can be more intricate than firestorms and curses."

"Set us down here, Ruslan. And don't get too close to whatever the fuck that is."
>>
Holy shit it's actually happening!

Fuck you Papa-N, I need to get up early tomorrow, and it's already late here but reading on the archive sucks.
Fuck it, I'm getting some coffee, here we go.
>>
You don't have to convince anybody of that, a point driven home as Ruslan backs away another few hundred meters before beginning to lower the craft.

"Everyone stay back as support. Stay just inside your real effective range in case you do need to get to shooting. Ruslan and Diego, hang well enough away you can scram if you tornadoes picking up cattle, but close enough I'm not waiting five minutes if someone needs a little bit of airborne pacification."

A flurry of acknowledgements just before you step off the ram, falling to the ground some five feet below. Massive monuments of a long dead civilization suddenly cropping up in buttfuck nowhere Georgia have a strange habit of putting most people at ease.

Yeah, you're as cool as a cucumber.

"What the unholy fuck is going on here, Kiara? Am I losing my god damned mind?"

"Would you shut up already!" A twinge of pain shoots through your skull as the witch fumes, "It's just a mound of rock, more or less."

"Mound of rock..." You murmur, as, despite your own intuition, you begin to approach the mighty structure.

At least for their part, the old soldiers behind you seem to have kept their edge. Despite following you, each is doing their best to stay out of sight in any little dip of terrain or patch of foliage that they can. You'd tell them it was probably not doing much good, if you were in any state of mind to even be thinking about it.

Even Kiara doesn't seem free of anxiety. You can tell by the slight glow to her eyes that she's very much on edge and ready to strike.

To the point that you almost crack a small grin when she squeaks in surprise as a figure emerges suddenly from a dark arch set in the side of the structure.

"That was you, Mortal." Kiara manages, before the figure comes into full view, standing midway up the pyramid.
>>
I love you Papa.
>>
>>27991031
Time for the big fight. We might even live through the experience.
>>
so does Arcinter get extra water powers or something from the pyramid, or is it just a home away from home for the guy?

>>
>>27991222
I've been assuming hard c.

If it's a soft c, then it sounds kind of like "arse inter"
>>
"That's a fucking lie and you know it." You bite back as quickly as you can manage, before quieting yourself.

As your eyes focus in the last few fleeting shades of dusk, your senses define more and more a figure quite opposite to what you had expected.

Though you had imagined the Arcinter as some grouchy old bearded man, bent and weatherworn, that is not the sight that greets you now.

Rather, an imposing figure of tanned and tone muscle looms over you instead. Everything from the long and unkempt dark curls of hair and hanging robe portray someone of a more youthful tone.

"Ah. I had been beginning to wonder as to what you had done with the body, Arcinter. What were you before this, Arcinter? You looked a bit like a senile old man the first time I bested you, you're going to look a lot more pathetic when beat you like this." Kiara seems to have found a bit of bravado, even if you can't hear the usual snap behind her words.

"Ruin!"

A new voice to your right nearly gets you to shoulder your rifle, barely managing to overcome that urge.

"How good of you to come. I'd rather thought you'd be smarter than this. You always had a knack for being rather..."

"Slippery." Another voice finishes, toward the top of the pyramid.

More and more figures emerge from seemingly everywhere on the temple. Men of all shapes, sizes, and ages. The young and scrawny standing right net to the portly and hideous.

You can't help but take a step back as the gravity of the situation hits. Everything you'd been expecting up to this point had revolved around there being one dude. Not at least two or three dozen.

"Arcinter," Kiara asks, and you can feel the rising sense of anxiety coming from her, "what have you done?"
>>
>>27991266
Good thing we brought air support.
>>
>>27991266
Well ok, at least the Warthog will hit /something/ and I was just about to say that you guys probably overestimate the accuracy of that thing. Not that it matters now.

Also if we're coating our bullets in transition metals, why not Osmium? Not only is that even more expensive than platinum, it's also *incredibly* toxic.
>>
At once, there is laughter. A torrent of voices in unison, some belting, others raspy. Each, however, directed toward you.

"I have waited and plotted, plotted and waited, for long enough to drive lesser immortals to suicide. The very moment from which you destroyed my city, I set out. From your final laugh as you took to the sky until you rose from the prison that by every right should have been your finality." The first man you saw is the one speaking now, while the others remain silent, though watching.

"I have watched the world change. I have watched my utopia on earth be relegated to the realm of hoax and superstition. And all this while, Ruin, all this while I have waited for this day." The man raises his arms now in a broad, encompassing gesture.

"And I continue to see, girl. As the waves consume it all, again, and again, and again." His arms fall back to his sides and his head falls, obscuring his face from your view.

"Now... Now you will truly and finally pay for the actions none has ever been able to bring judgement upon you for, until this day. This, Ruin... This will be your just end."

All at once, sweeping across the rows of shadowed figures before you, dim eyes in shadow begin to illuminate a cold blue.

"Kiara," You ask, already raising your rifle to a low-ready, "What the fuck is going on? Which one is him?"

"One of them?" She answers so quiet it is barely audible, "None of them?"

And for the first time, you see what fear looks like as it rests upon her.

I don't know, but only thing we have left is bravado and firepower. Little from column A, lots from column B would probably save the day. And if it doesn't, lets pour the rest of the column B on it and throw some matches after it.

After that, I have no idea.

Maybe we could bravado them to death?

I have a feeling that, if arcinter doesn't murder us, kiara will do it for him.
>>
Even your own usually stout resolve is shaken when you see how Kiara looks. Clearly she hadn't expected anything like this, either.

"I don't know what's going on, Mortal. I've never in my thousands of years seen magic used like this. This goes beyond necromancy, this goes beyond the complexity of even our bond..."

Well if she's not going to say anything...

"Gotta say, Archy, didn't expect your pyramid here to look so shabby. I thought you guys were supposed to be advanced or something? Even the Egyptians managed something nicer than this." You put on your best heckling face you can manage, hoping to just get a splinter under his skin. Or skins. "I mean the fountain part is sorta neat, reminds me of Disney World. Where is the talking Zeus head? Actually, doesn't he wear something that looks like this as a hat?"

"Ah yes the rambling idiot, I do suppose you're a rather perfect fit for her, aren't you? Smart enough to realize the power of what has possessed you, while too foolish to see the rest. If you think you can goad me, child, you are welcome to try. I have not been patient all this time with the intention of losing that now."

"Yeah that's cool and all, I'm not some ancient figurehead talking riddles and nonsense, but where is my friend?"

A booming, resounding chorus of laughter echoes across the expanse beneath the temple.

"Tell me, boy. Did you honestly believe you were not lead here? That you were not guided? That all you have done you have done alone? You have danced well to my flute, so here, your friend."

You look away as a corpse is rolled from the top, careening and spinning until it crashes into the ground.
>>

We can rebuild him. We have the magic.

"What better way to lead you here than by using those oblivious to my employ? To use the blind to guide, so that even the great Ruin could not see? Though I admit, a bit ahead of my schedule. I had planned on using you to remove the order... But everything is as it is."

At his last word, you see the water of the temple cease to flow. Or rather, stop in place, where in defiance of gravity, the stream is reversed.

And as the water rises into the air above the ancient relic of a bygone people and forms into a shimmering circle of water illuminated only by the faint glow of eyes, even you take a step back. Noticing, at the same time, so does Kiara.

"Ah, I was hoping you would recognize it. This was supposed to be the greatest achievement of our kind, Ruin. A doorway that would allow us to spread our way. All that was required, the last piece of our salvation... Let it now serve as the tomb for the one who damned it."

"Kiara, what am I looking at, here?"

"Something I thought had sunk a long time ago. It's all magical theory, I'm not even sure any of the Magos knew exactly what it would do, but the short of it is that this gateway would serve as a bridge to anywhere. Now... Now I don't know what it is..."

Her words are cut short as you both quizzically watch as a small stone begins to vibrate, move, and then begin skipping end over end toward the base of the pyramid.

Even the air around you feels different, powerful, energized.

As more stones begin to move, you realize what is happening. You're being pulled in.

"Diego!" You yell into the mic even as Kiara's eyes illuminate as you've never seen before.
>>
Those of the men atop the temple follow in turn.

You watch as lightning collides in the air with such splitting brightness that you're forced to look away from it. As Kiara shouts in fury and trees uproot themselves to fight for her, only to catch fire from the strikes of a quickly blossoming storm. To someone like you, this is what you imagine Armageddon might look like.

Kiara lights the very air aflame, only to find it quickly buffeted aside as the bodies of Arcinter direct their own magic and wind.

A blast of lightning collides only a few feet away from you, the ground beneath it rupturing and the force throwing you back. Now, keenly aware that this is not an everyday thunderstorm, you struggle to right yourself and get your own weapon into the fight. Out of the corner of your eye, however, you see Kiara crouch and place a hand to the ground.

Almost you cry out to her, before you realize your own call to calm, that she might alert the Bleeding Sword to your location... You're of the mind that they are already quite aware.

As around the body of Ruin, the green grass fades to ash as the land begins to die.

What sort of a target do those sidewinders need? It'd be better to keep him at range.

Well if she's getting into this fight...

Though the crack of the 5.45 is barely audible now, just the feeling of it in your hands is enough to do away with a bit of your panic. If platinum can hurt the witchy woman inside your mind, there's no way this smug mage is immune.

As you finally get your sights on target, which is a lot more difficult than it would seem with shit flying around everywhere and lightning strikes, you see the first rounds impact.

A burst catches one of the men atop the temple square in the chest. You're not one to brag, or anything, but that was some great damn shooting.

Watching now as at least that one piece of the Magos, screaming and clutching his chest as he falls...

"Light 'em the fuck up!" You yell into your set even while dropping into a crouch to brace yourself against the pull and continuing your own stream of fire.

Arcinter, for his part however, seems rather unfazed.

Likely because soon you find your entire field of fire blocked as the land itself rises to block you.
>>
>>27992758

>>
Forced to move now, you dash behind Kiara, who has taken to melting rock and pitching the ensuing molten weapon toward the Magos, who seems to have little difficulty in knocking it aside with a counter of his own, as if toying with her.

Unfortunately for the Magos, however, it doesn't appear as though he planned for something that will cause even the most battle hardened to shit their pants if they find themselves on the receiving end.

A torrent of sparks erupts on the pyramid, kicking chunks of stone skyward. Though Arcinter again tries to raise his wall of earth, but to the 30mm GAU, this offers little resistance. Rounds continue to rip through flesh and stone alike, severing limbs and exploding torsos.

Only when the storm of metal ceases do you see the plane rip past above you.

And a moment later...

You had hit the deck to avoid any shrapnel getting kicked your way, however you notice now that the pull of the gate above the temple is steadily increasing, enough to at least cause any to fall short.

Getting your feet under yourself again, rifle clattering to life once more, you see that several of the Magos still stand. Albeit, more than one missing a limb or adorning at least one gaping hole or missing half of body.

Trying to focus on those still standing, you seem to be able to knock more than one down with a shot. Your mind, as crazy as this entire situation is, now scrambles to find a reason why these bodies even survived the attack run at all.

Your best idea is that your own 5.45 fragments, leaving traces behind, whereas the 30mm seems to just blow right through and take chunks along with it. Though the Gau seems to have more or less disintegrated half of them...

"Hah! Well fought! However it's about time I end this! An eternity of solitude, Ruin! It is time you..."

Again the temple is engulfed in what you assume is as close as one can indeed get to pure distilled violence. As the sparks fly and walls crack, even through the smoke and dust you can see the circular gate of water go crashing to the ground in a deluge of water that rushes down the sides of the temple.

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

The sound is so intense you can actually feel your teeth chattering inside your head.

Though this run comes at a cost.

With a furious howl, the only body you see still standing raises an arm toward the craft. A bolt of lightning rips from the sky above, shredding through the fuselage and splitting the craft in two.

However this last body, little more than a chest with one arm and stumps for legs, collapses after the strike.

And from that same body, a shimmering wisp, almost silver in tone.

A wisp that careens right toward yourself.

Give the ghost a riddle

>>
>>27993173
Fill the Ghost with Platinum bullets. We're already possessed by a ghost, Kiara, and I think she can help us take him in a fight.
>>
Out of time and out of ideas as what you can only assume is the soul and mind of Arcinter whip through the air toward you, you do the only thing you can think of. Which so happens to be the solution you've tried on a whole host of problems, recently.

The AK-107 does a great job of staying on-target as the 5.45 rips through the approaching Magos, however aside from bouncing it around in the air, it doesn't seem to be having much of an effect.

With it maybe only fifteen feet away now, you just mash the trigger down and let the rounds fly. Though this slows it slightly, it isn't going to be enough.

You really don't want a second magician in your head...

"Holy shit get the fuck down, what the fuck are you doing man?!" A hoarse voice from behind you screams as it mashes something onto your head and shoves you to the ground.

Wide-eyed now, you watch as that silvery floating mess of magic comes within inches of your head, only to stop short.

Where it dangles for just a second too long, enough for the hand of Kiara to close around it.

"Ahhh... Hello again, Magos. How good to see you." Kiara almost purrs now, clenching her fist tighter and tighter.

The silvery strand quivers, clearly trying to escape.

"Oh no, I'm afraid that is quite impossible. Don't struggle now, Arcinter. Do at least die with some dignity, this time."

As Kiara's eyes glow brighter and brighter, the object in her hand spasms more and more violently, shrinking and fading. Until a distinct head emerges in the mist, its neck rotating to face you.

"You have doomed all." It says, voice as though speaking through water, before whatever remained of the Magos disappears entirely from your view.

You don't have time to even process that before whoever tackled you to the ground shakes you so violently that whatever it is he mashed onto your head falls off...

Tin foil?

"I warned you about reptilians, man! I told you dog!" An skinny, unkempt man yells right into your face, clearly irate.

With a loud and long sigh that turns into a groan as she sinks to the ground, Kiara finally just lays completely against the ground.

"I didn't expect it to take that much out of me..." She says between heavy breaths.

"You alright?" You ask, though more from habit than anything else.

"I'll be fine. Just give me a few moments."

When you look around, you aren't exactly surprised. As far as your eyes can see, from the tallest tree to the smallest blade of shrub, none of it is still alive. Nothing to replenish herself.

"I really, REALLY need to blog about this, man." The skinny man says, pulling your attention back to him.

Baffled, completely, you look between where you'd seen the corpse fall to the ground and where this lanky man is now.

"Didn't he kill you?" Is all you can manage.

The man's eyes go wide and he mashes a hand over your mouth to stifle you as he shushes you loudly.

When he at last seems satisfied after whipping his head around, as though expecting someone with a dagger to be right behind him, he gets a bit closer to you.

Closer than you really want to be, but that doesn't seem to phase him, so wrapped up in what you'd thought were just his delusions.

"Don't tell anyone..." He whispers, whipping his head around around one more time, eyes still wide, "But I'm pretty sure I'm a fucking wizard."

I wouldn't be able to deal with this.

"Kiara can you confirm what he's saying?" You ask her in your mind, to keep who you still hope is just a crazy conspiracy theorist unaware.

Though you don't get an answer.

"Uhh..." You look down at Kiara, laying on the ground, eyes closed, "Witchy woman?"

Your magical compatriot finally opens her eyes, staring hard at this familiar newcomer you know only by voice and mannerism.

"He's quite weak, and no immortal, but he must have some possum ability. Uncommon, perhaps, though not unheard of."

"...Is he the Atlantean?"

"I don't think he's the Magos than you or I. Now as much fun as tangling with whoever shows up would be, I suggest we leave the area. Preferably as fast and low key as we can." Kiara scoffs at your questions while she rises to her feet. Literally rises.

"Low key... Attack helicopter..." You frown, "Well, it's all we've got right now."

You key the mic and call in for a lift, watching your dad along with his men on the ground slowly approaching now. Each looking quite cautious.

"What the hell is going on!? I thought you said we were fighting magicians! THAT was not a fucking magician!"

"Yeah, seriously, you didn't tell us shit and I hate it!"

"He hates it!"

As your father attempts to calm down his understandably shaken friends. You thought he had filled them in a little more on the gravity of the situation. Though honestly you're not sure why they would expect you'd need an attack helicopter and a fucking A-10 to deal with some magicians.

And just in time to settle your own gut a bit, you see the outline of the Hind on its way.

"You got those cigars ready?" You ask over the comms.

"Is the fat lady singing?"

"Yeah." You look at the ruins of what had been a rather impressive looking pyramid, "Yeah you more or less made sure of that."

>>
It seems like some down time might be in order. I would be hesitant to crash at our Dad's place, just out of fear of someone finding out about him, but we could just grab a hotel nearby for a couple days. We have the trip to the cemetery in a day or two, and O Mistress Roundup here seems like she might need a long nap.
>>
>>27995336
I understand it no better than you, and I'm apparently the dead one. Also, you're back? When'd that happen?

.....what the hell did I miss here? My head is killing me.
>>
As the dust washes over you from the blades, you stop just shy of the entrance ramp, with everyone else already loaded inside.

"You sure you're alright?" You ask Kiara again.

"Hmm? Concerned, mortal?" She raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah if you're good enough to be witty, you're fine, I suppose."

Hauling yourself up and in with the help of an outreached hand...

No, no that is a bottle of vodka.

"I forget important rule, always keep backup." The man grins.

You grin through a mouthful of spirit as you spot Diego, standing arms crossed, leaning against one of the window PKMs. He just puffs on his cigar.

"Shame about your plane." You smirk.

"Don't rub it in. You know as much as I do that without this magical bullshit I'd already have her halfway home."

As you take a seat, it is only then that you remember you'd even brought Sarna with you. The little girl is sitting with a rather dejected look on her face, staring at her hands.

"Err... Did you get left out? Sorry?" You offer.

"Ah, you!" She proclaims with a start, springing up to stare at Kiara, "Where is my power up? How could you have forgotten me? I could have helped!"

"Eh?" Kiara stares through the strands of black hair covering part of her face, "I'm not going to give it to you now. Go sit down, I'm too tired to deal with you."

Sarna stamps her foot hard enough to shake the deck as she turns around.

"All of my hopes and dreams... Shattered!" She throws her hands up in the air.

Before you even know how to respond, the man you rescued, whom you don't even know by name, leans in toward you again.

"Are you in the Russian Illuminati or something?"
>>
>>27995584
>and I'm apparently the dead one
I thought you had disappeared as well?

I've been trying to come back, but my current schedule has been a real bitch and a half. Crazy work hours plus school.
>>
>>27995644
>"Are you in the Russian Illuminati or something?"
No, better. Russian Mafia.
>>
>>27995376
Someone blow in a powder horn and assemble the /k/ team. I've seen everything from a FAMAS to a Boys AT rifle on /k/. I think they could manage this.

>>27995417
Do you shoot it?
>>
>>27995703
You don't shoot a Nambu. You survive it.
>>
>>27995644
"No. There is no Russian Illuminati, I think.

I just know more than I should and brought along some old friends and friends of friends."
>>
>>27995644
Have one of the other soldiers answer with a "You wish comrade."
>>
The laughter aboard the gunship stops temporarily as all eyes turn to the newcomer.

The slav closest to him leans over, chewing on the end of his cigarette.

"You wish, comrade. Us here?" He looks around, "Mafia."

For several more moments, nothing but silence.

"I can live with that, man."

The crew erupts. Knee slapping, vodka-spilling, holy shit we survived that crazy shit laughter.

Which might have carried over for the rest of the flight.

If the missile approach warning hadn't started to scream over your headset.
>>
>>27995994
Seems a fitting cliffhanger until next thread, no?
>>
>>27996022
Yes, yes it does. Doesn't mean I like it one bit.

So I'll ask... thread when.

But in all seriousness this weekend is a possibility. Mid-term exams are this week and I have some other things going on as well. But my schedule is improving, if slowly.
>>
>>27996095
Good luck with your midterms and hopefully it's not 'soon'.
>>
>>27996095
Then we can only hope we see you this weekend.

And good luck with midterms.

I suppose I did. Long story. Lots of booze. Hilarious misadventures.

I just happened to wander back onto the /tg/ main page and saw your thread at the top just by chance.

Fuck, has it really been that long?

>>27996129

There's a chance for a later night thread some time this weekend. All depends on when I get done at work and if I'm awake enough. I'll be keeping up on my twitter a lot better so that should help get thread times going.

Schedule has just been hell, though. I have shows that sit on my drive for days before I can get around to them. I mean I didn't see the latest monogatari until late last night.

I really hope planefag is next.
>>
>>27996237
I'll wait patiently regardless of how long it takes so just keep being awesome.
>>
>>27996202
It won't be too long. Also I'm getting HLQ2 set up which is more difficult than you'd think, being that I wrote out most good enemies and I want to avoid repeat situations and the like. But I've got the ball rolling now so expect some Eight and Max in the coming weeks when Z&W wraps up.

I want to do a little drawfagging of my own for HLQ2 as well. Even if I haven't really improved.

>>27996218
Long ride to 'bama.

And I still want that track.

>>27996250
Good to be back. Always good to be here.

I'd say there is a chance.

This was wonderful Papa-N. Thank you so much for running.

You should probably put quest in your title though, I missed most of the thread because it dodged my filter
>>
>>27996359
(also someone should archive)
>>
>>27996359
I could start doing that. I just haven't ever put "quest" in any of my titles so didn't even occur to me about filters.
>>
>>27996396
Yeah. Helps keep anti-quest people from spamming the thread too, as there's some weird peace between the two camps as long as they can filter. Or something, I don't really pay attention to this intraboard shit.
>>
>>27996445
>as there's some weird peace between the two camps
Glad that finally happened. I'll try to remember for next thread.

Hey, what be dis, mang? Episode of cribs and extreme home makeover smashed together? Too bad I missed it.

Also, holy internet speed. Winter is coming and taking away my speed.
>>
>>27996518
It's

IT'S HAPPENING

Good to see you again. Love your work, as always.

Winter affects your internet speed?
>>
>>27996489

In any case, it's good to see you again buddy. If you get a chance, I'd like to talk shop about quest shit; I could use some help getting myself a bit more organized.

And yes, dear /tg/, I'm back on the radar. And I WILL continue HoboQuest; I'm just extraordinarily busy. Being drunk. But there are plans, and they shall come to fruition.
>>
>>27996569
Nah, just realized that the original of over 4000px tall was never going to upload.
>>
>>27996601
Same. And you can always hit me up on twitter or PM me through it. I check it every day or so, depending on if I'm anywhere my phone, which I can't carry at work.

>>27996622
>4000px
Yeah I can imagine.

My sizes always seem to creep up and up and up until I beat them down again.
>>
>>27996644
Yeah, that would happen to me too if I were to actually draw anything, that scribble was the first one in a long time.

I have absolutely no inspiration these days, so that was quite nice to just blurt something on an empty space. Thanks.
>>
>>27996743
Inspiration can be hard. I sorta stop for a few days and then try some more, etc.

I'd love to get to the point where I could use it in my quests, but I know I'm a ways off.
>>
>>27996807
Yeah. I'll try to cover with scribbles until then, then. Maybe try again with the animation, too, now that you're here again to provide inspiration.

I think I still got my old files somewhere.

Somewhere under all the arma 3 stuff that I need to operate operationally operations with other such operators as I. Damn that game makes me want to just model guns, but I've resisted so far...
>>
>>27996981
Always look forward to seeing more from you. If there's anything I can help with let me know.

I haven't played anything in a long while. I think Warthunder might have been the last game I touched.

Anyways it's midnight and I've got to be up early, so I'm going to crash.

Thanks for making this thread a success, everyone. It was really what I needed.
