Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are ANYA WELLINGS, a Lanseal Academy graduate and a fresh recruit for the Gallian Secret Service. You've just been dropped off to GSS HQ, better known as Fort Novak, located in southern Gallia. You're a bit apprehensive. After all, only the best of the best in Lanseal were eligible to graduate straight into GSS, and considering your parents were both highly distinguished members, you had a lot to live up to.

As you step out of the truck, you review your transfer papers one more time.

Like Mom, you enrolled as a scout. Good scouts were always in high demand, whether it be a special forces unit or regular army, and you were one of the best scouts in Lanseal's history ever since it had been refounded.

Still, you can't help but feel a bit intimidated in this environment. At Lanseal, you were quite content being the big dog on campus, but here, well, suffice to say you were now a big fish in a really damn big pond. Your fingers nervously grasp at the lovingly made gas mask clipped to your belt. You had grown past the stage where you would wear it all the time, but it still comforting to carry it around with you.

Well, you could just go straight to HQ and report in, but your scout instincts are going into overdrive at the sight of Fort Novak. Once a mighty medieval castle keep, Fort Novak had bee extensively converted into a military base, but much of the original castle architecture still remained. There had to so many nooks and crannies, side halls, secret passages, even LOOT hidden away...

Your scout's instincts draw you away from your current objective and you decide to wander the castle. Fortunately, nobody seems to give you a second glance as you move throughout the castle. Of course, you haven't really wandered near any sensitive areas yet, so they had no reason to suspect you of anything.

But what surprises you is simply how easy it is to move from one hallway jam packed with personnel trying to carry out their daily duties, to an adjacent one that was all but abandoned. It was in these cold, dark hallways where you were free to do some REAL exploring.

>Double 13s

You don't really find anything of note. Mostly what you find are just empty rooms, no doubt having been picked clean by previous explorers. However, the exploration factor alone was enough to keep you well occupied as you mentally mapped out the various passages and hallways.

Finally, you come across an ancient, wooden door. You see that it's padlocked, but the lock is so ancient that it's literally rusted away to nothing, and just touching the handle gives enough of a shock to the door to cause the lock to crumble to oxide dust.

With your curiosity overriding your apprehension, you open the door and peer inside. What you see is a staircase. Unlit, which goes down and down into the darkness. You can't even see the bottom, but you have the feeling that there's something down there.

Hah, well, there was no harm in checking out what was at the bottom, right? You totally weren't super nervous and you weren't putting on your gas mask to comfort yourself. In an old castle like this, there had to be some poisonous mold some other toxin in the air down there. Yeah, that was it.

Every footstep you take echoes throughout the stairwell as you go farther and farther down, your hand trailing along the wall as some sort of measure to remind you you're moving forward.

You shouldn't be here.

You freeze in your tracks. You could've sworn you had heard something.

However, you don't Yes really hear anything else come and you shrug a little and continue down the stairwell CLOSER.

How far down have you gone? If you were counting correctly, you'd be well below the castle by now.

How much farther did these stairs go?

If we find something in here trying to take our loot before we can grab it, we will stab them in the face. Just like mother, in her stories. Stabbing things in the face has always worked when looking for loot, except for that one time when the door slammed shut behind us and we were jumpy and father almost lost his eye and I think he still has that scar and we should really have our knife in hand right now like mother taught us.
>>
>>28045216
I'm not sure how Morgan or Lucina are going to react to doing it with Lucas. Hell maybe Lucina becomes more flirty or sociable, and Morgan somehow unlocks her Valkyrian powers through the power of love.

Against your better judgment, you creep further down, your increasingly heavy breathing magnified by your gas mask. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, you apparently finally reach flat ground. You have absolutely no idea how far down you are now, which troubles you, since you're normally good at that sort of thing.

And then you hear something. Just a soft little pitter patter behind you, and heavy, determined thumps, slowly getting louder and louder.

It was getting closer.

Taking a deep breath, tighten your grip on your flashlight and draw one of your knives. You mom told you no matter how big and scary it was, they always went down after a stab to the face.

Or multiple stabs. Mom was never very consistent with her storytelling.

You then finally whip around to face your assailant.

Well, you're too proud to scream like a little girl, and even if you did, it would have been muffled by the gas mask anyways.

But you totally didn't scream like a little girl.

You try to stab your knife into the monster but it swings its arm and knocks your trusty knife out of your hand, sending it clattering away in the darkness. You instinctively back up, but you press against a wall, leaving you no more space to maneuver. A scout's worst case scenario.

The monster leers at you as it comes every closer.

You look down and see that the ugly leering face you had seen earlier was just a mask, that you had smashed apart as you were stomping on its face. Now that you get a clearer look, you realize that it's just one, heavily armored figure.

"L-lloyd! Help me get out of this thing!" You hear a muffled voice inside the armor.

"Hah hah, it looks like our plan backfired a bit!" Lloyd laughs.

Wait...

"Plan?"

>Hah, that was a pretty good one.

You stand there speechless as your mind tries to process what's going on. Meanwhile, Lloyd bends down and pulls the helmet off of the armored figure, revealing the face of his twin sister Lilith.

Oh, it all made sense, now.

"YOU SONS OF BITCHES!" You bellow, pummeling Lloyd's back with punches as he laughs.

"Hahaha, sorry Anya, sorry!" Lloyd laughs. "We knew you'd go snooping around the castle first, and we found this staircase..."

"...and we couldn't pass it up!" Lillith says, trying to get back her feet, but obviously having a hard time with all the heavy armor she's wearing.

"Here's what's going to happen." You crack your knuckles and stretch your neck. "I'm going to kill you both right here, right now, so brutally that nobody will EVER find you again. At least in one piece."

"Haha... a joker as always, I see." Lloyd laughs nervously.

"Y-yeah, that's a g-good one." Lillith nods.

However, before you can do anything else, you feel a powerful, heavy hand grab your shoulder. You turn and see none other than Colonel Price standing behind you, a huge frown on his face.

"Goddamn FNGs." He grumbles. "Of course you'd be fooling around on your first day on the job."

"S-sorry, sir!" Both Lloyd and Lillith sputter.

"And you?" Price glowers at you, specifically, and you suddenly feel very guilty for wandering off in the first place.

"...sorry sir." You mumble.

"You're lucky I've got nothing but respect for your father, Anya, which is why I'm gonna let this slide." Price says, finally releasing your shoulder. "Pull this sort of shit again and the three of you are going to be cleaning toilets for the next six months. Is that clear?"

"Sir yes sir!" The three of you affirm.

"Now get your asses to HQ and report in to the General!" Price barks, and as the three of you double time it out, you can hear him grumble again. "Goddamn FNGs..."

"Gooooosh, Price is so scaaaaary!" Lillith whimpers.

"Yeah, I can't believe your dad is friends with that guy." Lloyd sighs.

"Hey, Price is cool. Knock it off." You glower. "Plus you shouldn't be talking about my godfather like that."

"You know, that always made me curious." Lloyd frowns. "Why didn't your dad make Mac your godfather? They're way closer."

"Because... he's Mac. Did you really have to ask that question?"

"Point."

You sigh and shake your head. You had been friends with the Everheart twins for as long as you could remember. Apparently your mom was really close with theirs, and they used to be classmates, so naturally they decided to shove all of you together. Lloyd was an engineer while Lillith followed in the footsteps of her parents and chose to be a shocktrooper. They were pretty nice and easygoing, which was a polar opposite of the very stuffy way their parents would act.

"But still, I think it was worth it to see Anya squirm for once." Lillith giggles.

You give her a nice, healthy deathglare to shut her up.

At this point, you've finally reached the General's office. The guards in front take one look at you and open the door, as if you were expected.

"Aaaah, Wellings and the Everhearts. Welcome to Fort Novak!" General Novak smiles warmly. He was really getting on in years, but he still seemed to have a lot of life left in him, at least enough for the administrative work his position required. "I see you've taken your time to acclimate to the surroundings."

"Heheh, yeah." Lloyd laughs nervously.

"Now, I'm really sorry to have to do this to you on your first day, but I need you to undertake a mission. A very special one." Novak says.

"Just tell us what to do, sir." You say.

"Ah, there's the good old Wellings sense of duty." Novak grins. "You see, I've recently received a very personal request for assistance, from Asimov Industries."

"What would they want with us?" Lloyd blinks.

"Yeah, isn't that some big shot corporation? I thought we served the Archduchess." Lillith adds in.

"Normally, yes, but Asimov Industries has been a vital contributor to the GSS and Gallia as a whole, which is why I'm willing to make an exception." Novak takes out a remote and hits it, turning off the lights in the room and activating a projector. "Asimov Industries has a private property here in central Gallia. For the past twenty years they've been aggressively keeping people out of the area."

"Until now?" You ask.

"Mr. Asimov believes the security he's stationed there has been compromised. Since royal decree prevents corporations from maintaining armed security forces in Gallia, and he wants somebody with a bit of firepower at their command to check things out."

"You can't send in another team?" Lillith frowns.

"Without giving too much away, most of my operatives are currently busy with other missions. These are turbulent times and GSS is spread thin." Novak sighs. "But as far as I can tell, there's nothing out there but some abandoned mines."

"So, it's just a basic recon mission."

"That's correct." Novak nods. "Just go in, gauge the situation, and report back. You'll have full access to our armory, of course, so you can equip yourself at your own discretion."

Well, this was still a recon mission, and you didn't want to bring so much gear that just be being in the same general area would give away your position. On the other hand, you guys also wanted to be reasonably prepared for what you might face. With those concerns in mind, you decided to meet in the middle. You all decided to take on your standard combat armor, along with an ample supply of explosives and grenades. Lillith also took an underslung flamethrower for her rifle while you took a 40mm grenade launcher attachment.

The ride to the site isn't TOO bad, but due to the need for stealth, you have to stop several clicks away from the target area, to make sure you wouldn't be spotted. It takes you three about a full day to get into position, where you overlook the target area.

"Well, it looks like an abandoned mine, all right." Lloyd mutters.

"But something's not right." You narrow your eyes. "Some of those buildings down there look too new."

You definitely weren't seeing things. You could see freshly set up temporary structures, tents, and trailers scattered all around the mine entrance. However, you were too far and it was too dark to make out any sort of activity.

"I need to go in." You say, getting up.

"You need any help?" Lillith asks.

The twins also pack up their gear and move to follow you towards the camp below.

However, when you do reach the mine entrance, there's.... nothing. Sure, there was evidence that people were here, but other than that there didn't seem to be anybody around.

"Okay, this is seriously giving me the creeps." Lillith shivers.

"Yeah, I'm not liking this." Lloyd frowns.

You nod but remain silent. Your eyes dart in all directions, taking in everything you see as you try and figure out just what the heck happened here.

Your eyes quickly scan your surroundings, and the first thing you note is the logos being prominently displayed. The first logo you don't immediately recognize, but vaguely recall it being associated with some Federation-affiliated mining conglomerate. The second logo, though, your recognize more fully.

Artemis Security.

Whatever they were doing here, it wasn't for anything legal, as foreign PMCs were strictly forbidden from operating inside Gallia. Even worse is that you could deduce that these Artemis mercs came in heavily armed, and given the fact that you didn't see any weapons lying around, were definitely using them before they disappeared.

You then carefully slip on your gas mask, and Lloyd and Lillith blanch. Gas mask mode always meant the situation was serious.

Suddenly, you hear a clattering from one of the trailers, and the three of you immediately whip around to face it. You nod at Lillith and she nods back, and the both of you carefully approach the trailer while Lloyd covers you both from afar. Grabbing the door handle, you make one last eye contact with Lillith before tugging the door open, with Lillith entering, rifle drawn.

"Don't shoot! Don't shoot! I'm human!" You hear a scared voice squeal.

"What do you mean by 'human?'" You scowl. You had Darcsen blood in you, after all.

"Come on, Lillith, weren't you paying attention in class? We're not going to get anything out of him in this state, and hurting him more isn't going to change that."

"General Novak!" Lloyd says as he makes a connection with HQ. "General, we're at the site, but it looks like somebody beat us there. Artemis mercs were here. They're long gone but they left most of their equipment here."

"I was afraid of that." Novak sighs. "Listen, I'm updating your orders. This is no longer a recon mission, but a secure and hold mission. Secure the mine entrance and make sure nothing gets in or out. ROE no longer applies. I'm sending in team right now to reinforce."

"R-roger that." Lloyd says. "You guys hear that?"

"Fine, give me more work to do, will you?" Lloyd bends down and helps the spaced out scientist to his feet.

The trek to the mine entrance is just like when you first entered the camp. Dark and lonely. You cross more empty tents and trailers, but this time you can see visible damage on them now.

And blood. Lots of it.

But oddly enough, there were not bodies. You can see streaks on the ground suggesting that bodies had been dragged, and the all lead to one place, the mine entrance. It's here that you see the full extent of what had been going on.

What used to be a massive, concrete plug had now been chipped away, replaced with a steel security door. Looking down, you can see several dead Artemis mercs. One is slumped against the door, with what looks like a remote control in his hand. Creepily enough, you can see more than a few severed arms and even a head lying at the foot of the security door, suggesting those had been cut off as it closed.

"What the hell happened here?" Lloyd gasped.

"I don't think we want to know." Lillith frowns.

Chicken. Face your fears like a man, plasma cutter in hand.

"You heard Novak, nothing in or out." You say.

"But-"

"Look at that shit, Lillith." You motion to the dead bodies and blood scattered about. "You really want to take a risk to see what's on the other side of that door?"

"No..." Lillith concedes.

Suddenly, your danger perk lights up and you whip around. In the distance, you can see pinpricks of light. Headlights.

"Are those Novak's reinforcements?"

"Too fast." You shake your head. "It took us almost a day to get out here. It must be that 'rescue team' that scientist guy was talking about."

"Well, what do we do?"

You squint your eyes. You see at least six headlights, meaning at least three vehicles, so you were looking at at least a squad of men.

I only got my copy of Dead Space and DS3 a week ago, I know how it feels bro.

Still going to attempt finishing it though, because someone was awesome enough to give that shit away to me for free.

Explosives all around, in the area near the door.

They get close, BOOM

We REALLY need those Artemis reinforcements.

This, the more soldiers we have, the more bodies we have between us and the Necromorphs.

Surviving in this case is having more guns between us and the RAGNITE NOVA 6 NECROMORPHS. Artya was certainly not stupid enough to shoot at potential support in the original quest.

These guys are already operating illegally in Gallia.

This is also the Merc corp that runs FOR MONIES.

And you trust them not to shoot you in the back.
>>
>>28049290

I trust them wanting to shoot at the necromorphs more than at us.
>>
>>28049293

THey dont even knows whats inside, they opened the mine to see wtf was inside.

You sure they aren't here for a sample?

Thanks for describing literally every single PMC ever.

"Guys, I'm about to do something REALLY stupid."

"Again?" Lloyd quips.

"Again?" Lillith quips.

"Ugh, shut up." You scowl. "I'm gonna try and talk these guys into helping us out here."

"You can't be serious."

"I'm damn serious. Do YOU want to deal with whatever the hell is behind that door? If whatever is in there does get out, we can at the very least use those Artemis guys as meatshields.

"That's cold, Anya." Llloyd shakes his head.

"Runs in the family. You guys should go find some cover."

With that, your partners move off to nestle safely behind a collection of crates with the captured scientist. You stand in front of the doors as the vehicles slowly pull up and the Artemis mercs pile out.

"Hey, you're not one of ours." One of them grunts.

It gets significantly less scary when you realize that it's less of a horror game and more of a TPS with jumpscares.

Load up that plasma cutter and put on your stompin boots, because when it comes to killing power YOU are the real monster in that game.

"Yeah? Well I don't give a shit." You say. "I suppose you're here to clean up this mess?"

"In a way." The mercs' apparent leader says simply.

"Look, I'm sure you've got some orders from your bosses telling you to clean this shit up and leave no witnesses, but honestly, you've been made."

"And what's your point?"

"I'm in no mood getting shot up tonight, and I doubt you and your guys are, either. So how about we just agree none of this shit happened, and we go our separate ways?"

"Hmmm..."

Well, it seemed to be working, for now. You just needed to give him one more little push...

"Look, we found that scientist who called you in to save his ass. How about this. We give him to you, and you can go back to wherever you came from and get your paycheck. We don't get shot, you don't get shot, and you get paid for your work. Everybody wins. How about it?"

"Let me see him." The leader says.

You nod to Lloyd, who pushes the scientist out of cover. The merc leader takes one look at him.

"Yep, that's the guy. Bring him in." The merc leader waves a couple of his men forward and then turns back to you. "Our job's done. Pleasure doing business with you."

With that, the mercs pile back into their vehicles and barrel off. No doubt their bosses were going to write off this whole affair as a bad investment.

"Jeez, Anya, you really do know how to give me a heart attack." Llloyd sighs.

"Hey, we're still alive, right?" You shrug.

An hour later, a fresh GSS team paradrops in to help you secure the area. The day after that, Novak arrives with a full Army contingent ready to tear the place apart.

"Good job, soldiers." Novak grins as he steps out of his jeep. "It looks like you've got what it takes to be GSS material."

"Sir, what about the mine?" You ask, pointing at the steel doors.

"I'm afraid that's something we'll have to deal with sooner or later." Novak sighs. "But I need to have a good, long talk with Asimov, first."

"So... we're just going to leave it like this?" You sigh. You didn't feel like you accomplished much of anything.

"Sometimes, maintaining the status quo is all we can do. It's one of the painful realities of our line of work." Novak sighs. "Anyways, good job. I've arranged transport for you back to the castle."

With that, you, Lloyd, and Lillith hop into the waiting truck. Both siblings say and lean on you, trapping you between them in sort of strawberry sandwich. You just sigh and try to get some sleep as well.

>And that's it for tonight! We'll be back to the main story on Friday night, so make sure to be there!

you handed a guy who apparently knew what was going on, or at least was researching the scary shit, straight to the bad guys when explicitly told to not let ANYONE LEAVE
>>
>>28049507
Oh, I'll get back to it in due time...
>>
>>28049514

I didnt vote for it.

I dont know ewhy all the let him go votes came out.
>>
>>28049514
Because sometimes, you have to make sacrifices so idiots won't let out the gribblies.

I doubt the scientist got much data considering his entire expedition was massacred.
>>
>>28049550

Thats beside the point.

Ww've just made artya's spawn be someone who is willing able to deal with the enemy to make things easier even if it runs counter to gallia's security and that is something I am very uncomfortable with.

Even if he did not gain data, he was obviously highly placed enough to warrant 3 squads to extract him and wouls know why this expedition was comissioned and how these resources got funneled INTO GALLIA UNDETECTED.
>>
>>28049612
Or, Artemis could've not wanted any evidence of their misconduct being left as loose ends?

Besides, it was us three versus at least a squad, we've done all that could be reasonably expected of us. Certainly Novak thought so.

Sometimes compromise is the best way out.
>>
>>28049648

Yes, indeed.

Why the fuck did we even go up to them in the first place. If we hadn't we could have stolen away and watched from a distance and we won't even be in the situation to hand over the scientist.
>>
>>28049648

Or you know, we could have TRIED appealing to them first instead of immediately handing our the scientist.
>>
>>28049660
>Why the fuck did we even go up to them in the first place.

because the retards are stuck trying to play Lucas the diplomancer and are being extremely out of character
>>
>>28049678
It's okay, there's certainly enough evidence in the buildings around the base to fuck them over.
>>
>>28049612
>Ww've just made artya's spawn be someone who is willing able to deal with the enemy to make things easier even if it runs counter to gallia's security and that is something I am very uncomfortable with.

same, pity I wasn't around for that vote, now I've lost almost all interest in this character
>>
>>28049720
Was it better to risk a firefight when we're outnumbered and need to defend a door with God knows what horrors behind it?
Or was it better to let the Artemis guys open the door to said horrors? I remind you, their whole expedition got slaughtered before they closed the door last time. And I'm pretty sure there were more dudes there than in these three vehicles.
>>
>>28049864

Or cut the wires to the door control switch
>>
>>28049864

The suggestions were there to lay explosives WHICH WE HAD around the door where they would most certainly gather around.

One press of a button and we'd only need to mop up.
>>
>>28049864
there is a reason we brought the explosives with us...
>>
>>28049918
No more, extra side writing for tonight
