Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are MORGAN HATHCOCK, a sniper for Wraith Team and a Valkrur (well, a partial one, anyways). For the longest time, you've been living a lie, keeping your true nature secret from everybody. However, now you finally have a chance to confront the legacy that has cursed your life since birth, as you descend into the Lost City of the Valkrur. When you and Milo explored the obelisk, you find what was apparently an elevator that would lead down to the ocean floor. It activated the moment you stepped inside it, but other than that, nobody has tested whether it worked, much less where it would lead to.

"Are you sure about this?" A voice interrupts you.

"Huh?" You blink as you see Simo standing behind you, a worried look on his face.

"You don't have to do this, Morgan. I'm sure Milo has enough expertise to handle whatever we find down there." Simo continues. "It's too dangerous."

>Simo, I have to do this. I need to confront the legacy of my ancestors.
>Simo, I'm a big girl now. I can take care of myself.

"Don't worry, Simo." You say as you stand up on your toes and kiss him on the cheek. "It's my turn to carry the mission, okay?"

Simo cheeks redden and he just turns away and grunts. Heh, he never could handle affection very well.

"Hey, after this mission, I gotta tell you something."

"Don't say stuff like that!" Simo tuts. "Things like that get people killed."

"Okay, okay!" You snicker and then step into the elevator.

Waiting for you are your squadmates Lucina, Charlotte, Falynn, Edwin, and Sparky. Also accompanying you are two of Whitmore's expedition members: Milo and Vinny. Milo of course knew how to read Valkrur, and Vinny was... well... Vinny.

"Are you guys ready?"

"Excited, actually!" Milo says.

"Yeah, I"m sure."

You press the elevator activation key, and you see glowing runes carve themselves into the flat ragnite metal panel in front of you.

>With Milo in your party Valkrur runes are automatically translated.

"What's it saying?" You ask, pointing to the panel.

"It seems like locations." Milo adjusts his glasses as he squints at the alien script. "I'm pretty sure I can read it."

You hit the runes signifying ARMORY and the elevator shudders as ancient motors that haven't moved in centuries are forced into operation again. However, other than that, the elevator has no other issues. The Valkrur seemed good at building stuff to last, anyways.

But... you still didn't feel very comfortable. In fact, enclosed spaces in general still made you feel uncomfortable sometimes. Still too many lingering memories of that prison camp...

You shake the bad thoughts out of your head. You were on a mission, after all. You can feel the elevator begin to slow as it presumably reaches its destination. With a loud PING the doors begin to slide open...

The moment the doors slide open you see large, humanoid shapes in the darkness. You're not sure who fired first. It could've been anybody. Hell, it could have been you and you just didn't realize it. However, everybody starts firing their weapons in response. Milo cowers in the back of the elevator, and even Vinny contributes a couple of grenades. When the smoke clears, you finally find out what was waiting for you.

There, littered on the ground are the remains of a trio of armored figures. The armor they were wearing looked beautiful yet alien, typical of Valkrur make. However, as you bend down to pick up a fallen helmet, you see a dusty skull fall out from under it and you shriek.

Apparently your gunfire didn't kill them, as they were already long dead.

Unfortunately, sifting through the armory doesn't give you much to show for, either. Most of the weapons you find are just simply too ancient or unkempt to work, and most of the rest was destroyed when Sparky and Edwin fired off their lances. However, you do find another Valkrur console in the room guarded by another long dead knight, still somehow in a standing position.

"Ummm, the last time I checked, lockdown orders were usually issued for a very good reason." You frown. "Maybe we should explore a bit more before we do anything rash."

"Understood." Milo nods.

You then notice something gleaming from the dead knight guarding the console. You see that it's a pendant similar to the one Sparky wore, though in a slightly different shape. You carefully slip it off the ancient warrior's neck, and the pendant begins to glow brighter. You then press it against the console.

SECURITY ACCESS. YOU MAY ACCESS THIS CONSOLE FROM ANY WORKING CONSOLE IN THE CITY.

Well, that was useful. You wouldn't have to backtrack all the way here if you changed your mind.

"Can we get out of here, already? Charlotte frowns. "This place is really giving me the creeps."

"Y-yeah. All these dead people.." Falynn shakes her head.

"Yeah, let's go." You say. You give the fallen warrior one last nod of respect before returning to the elevator.

You tap the rune for the Living Quarters. Again, the elevator goes further down and comes to a full stop. Fortunately, no long dead Valkrur knights are waiting for you at the door. Instead, you find another trio of them facing a sealed door.

"Any of you have any idea what's past that?" You ask.

Lucina knocks on the door, and then presses her ear against it and shakes her head. "I don't think there's anything on the other side."

"Tell that to those guys." Charlotte points to the knights.

"Maybe we should try opening it?" Milo asks.

"Let me check." You go to the console next to the door.

WARNING. DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED WHILE LOCKDOWN IS IN EFFECT.

"Well, in that case." Vinny steps forward, tosses an explosive charge up and down in hsi hand. "We've always got master keys, guaranteed to open any door."

"I'm not sure if it's a good idea to use explosives down here..." Milo frowns.

"Let's hold off on that for now." You frown. "Let's check out the library instead."

You all get back into the elevator and you hit the Libarary rune. The elevator then takes you all up and screeches to stop. When the door slides open, you don't see any knights or locked doors. Instead, you see large shelves of ancient tomes. Milo's eyes widen to the size of dinner plates and he rushes forward.

"Ooooh, oooh! This magnificent! Revolutionary! World changing!" He gushes.

"What are these?" You ask.

"Stories, epics, poetry, an entire lost civilization's worth of culture!" Milo grins. "Nothing of the sort has ever been found before!"

Curious, you take out a book and notice it's surprisingly heavy. You open it to see that the pages weren't made out of paper, but a thinner version of that ragnite stone the Valkrur seemed to love so much, with runes carved into them. You then look up and just realize that one side the library was a massive, plate glass window. You're sure that if the city was on the surface, it would've made magnificent view, but now all you see is the endless dark of the ocean deep, with a bit of sunlight just barely managing to make it down from the surface. Looking at it too long just unsettled you, so you turn your gaze away.

"Morgan, we found something." Lucina waves you over.

Putting the book back in its shelf, you leave Milo to his studies as you follow Lucina. She leads you to another sealed door. You see the runes above it and try to recall the Valkrur alphabet Milo taught you a bit of.

Okay, this was just getting way too heavy for you. You key your radio and call up Simo.

"Simo, did you read me?"

"Morgan! Are you under attack! Just tell me where-"

"No, no, nothing like that, you paranoid dolt!" You laugh softly. "It's just, we're just encountering stuff down here that doesn't seem to be adding up. I'd... I'd really like some backup down here.

"Okay... hm..." Simo sighs. "I don't want to just leave Whitmore and his people up here... Okay, I'll send Lucas and MK down to assist. Is that okay?'

"Yeah, that'll work." You nod. "We're on the Library level, by the way. It's the uh, first rune on the top."

"Roger that."

You then hear the elevator rumble as it's activated from the surface, presumably to bring Lucas and MK down.

"-I'm telling you, I saw something out there!" You hear Falynn cry.

"Come on, Falynn, I know you don't really like the ocean much and all, but I think you're just seeing things." Charlotte sighs.

"N-no! I swear I saw something moving out there!"

"Probably just some fish."

"Something the matter?" You ask, walking in on the conversation.

"Falynn just thinks she saw a sea monster or someting."

"No, I just saw SOMETHING." Falynn corrects her sister. " And yes, sea monsters do exist! Remember that giant robot lobster thing?!?"

"That's a ROBOT, not a monster. Doesn't count."

You shake your head and leave Charlotte and Falynn to their sisterly bickering and approach Lucina..

"Lucina, what's your take on this?"

"I don't know. Water visibility is poor and there's not a lot of light down here." Lucina frowns.

"Wait, I DO see something." Lucina frowns and points. "There!"

At first you're afraid it's that giant robot lobster you had encountered earlier. But at least you were very sure that thing wouldn't attack you. No, what you see is worse, Much much worse.

It was a U-boat. A massive U-boat that was slowly making its way toward you.

"We got incoming!" You yell. Everybody's gaze shoots towards the window and they all immediately begin to mobilize. At the same time, Lucas and MK finally arrive.

"Whoa, Morgan, what the heck is that?" Lucas gapes.

"Something bad." You scowl.

You then see hatches open up along the U-boat's side, and it begins to disgorge small little shapes, which you recognize as people. Men in diving gear, and heavily armed and armored. You even notice more than a few having the distinct shape of Artificial Valkyria.

"Oh shit."

One of the divers swims up to the window and peers inside, and reels back when he sees you all. He motions quickly to his fellows, and another diver looks in and slaps what looks like an explosive charge on the window and they all push off to get distance.

"OH SHIT."

"Run for the archives! That door should be watertight!" You yell. It might lead to a dead end, but it was better than nothing. You sprint over to the door and slap the knight's pendant on the console and hit the Y rune.

LOCKDOWN ORDER RESCINDED. ALL DOORS UNSEALED.

"Go go go!" You yell, waving everybody in. The rest of the squad gets in rather quickly, though Vinny and Sparky literally have to drag Milo in as he tries to save every book he can.

"N-no! All that knowledge! The culture! All lost!" He moans.

"We can always go back for it later." You say as you close the door and reengage the lockdown. You can hear distant thumps and clanks as countless doors reseal themselves. Then there's a large rumble as the charge explodes, shattering the observation window and sending water crashing into library. In seconds, the entire room is flooded with seawater.

"Hah, let's see those bastards get in now!" MK grins.

Then you all hear a faint hissing sound.

"What's that sound?" You ask.

"Sounds like they're using a torch to cut the door." Falynn says.

"How long will that take?"

"N-not sure. At least a few minutes for a watertight door. But I'm not sure what these doors here are made of."

"Okay, we'll take five minutes to rest." You say, looking around the room. "Milo, let's see what we can find in here."

"R-right." Milo sighs, still depressed over the loss of the library.

The archives looked similar to the rest of the library, though this time the books seemed to be documenting most of the history of the city, though most of it was just hard numbers and data. Population tallies, property records, deaths marriages, that sort of stuff. However, what you and Milo noticed was that as you you were delving into the most recent entries, the birth rates plummeted while the numbers of deaths began to skyrocket.

"What does this mean?" You ask.

"Well, if I'm to guess, these records occurred during the war between the Valkrur and the Darcsens." Milo says, adjusting his glasses. "Naturally, large scale war would cause birthrates to drop and death rates tor rise as attrition sets in and the populace concentrates on war production rather that reproduction."

"But wouldn't that sort of stuff be happening on the front lines? Why is all this happening in the city itself?"

"That, I don't know."

"We should get moving!" Falynn warns. "I don't think that door is going to hold out any longer!"

You nod and you lead the squad down a flight of stairs near the back of the archives. It leads you further down through more rooms that contain more records, most likely the ones dating farther back.

Finally, you come down to a door labeled LIVING QUARTERS.

Of course, the door is locked down. You disable the lockdown and rush the squad through before reenaging the lockdown, but you notice that the doors don't open or close quite as fast as they did before. You're afraid that all this sudden strain on door system left to it for centuries was starting to damage them. And this was happening to every door in the city at once. You shudder to think what would happen if they all broke down.

"Oh my god." Lucas gasps.

(cont)
>>
>>28080846
"What's the matter?" You turn and have to clasp your hands to your mouth to keep yourself from screaming.

The living quarters was choked with skeletons. Dozens of them. Skeletons were sitting in piles, or strewn about in the halls. You see more than a few knights in the mix as well, but unlike the pristine statue-like ones you've encountered before, it looks as if these ones were ripped to shreds. In fact, a lot the skeletons look as if they had suffered grievous damage.

"Okay, now I officially fucking hate this place. Can we leave already?" Charlotte scowls as Falynn cowers behind her.

"Milo, what's going on here?" Lucina asks.

"I don't know!" Milo shakes his head. "My best guess is that some kind of catastrophe took place here. Maybe it's why the Valkrur disappeared?"

Your squad moves though the living quarter level, gingerly trying to avoid stepping on any of the long decayed corpses spread about. You try to find the nearest console, which is laying in the hall, and activate it.

MESSAGE BULLETIN: THE LOCKDOWN IS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. PLEASE REMAIN CALM WHILE SECURITY FORCES DEAL WITH THE SITUATION

Every console says the same thing. Even pressing the knight's pendant against them doesn't seem to do anything. It's then that you hear movement.

"Everybody down!" Lucina hisses.

All of you take cover, a few unlucky ones among piles of bones, as you see several Imp commandos carefully move past. They come across one of the sealed doors. You then see an Artificial Valkyria stride forward and press on the console next to the door. Nothing happens. The Imps then seem to get into an argument with each other, but you can't really hear what they're saying.

Falling back on your sniper training, moving quietly while prone was a required skill. You carefully creep your way among piles of bones until you can get close enough to hear.

"I though you said your damn monsters here could work the system, Doctor." One of the Imps scowls.

"My apologies, Captain. My V4s have basic system access, but their capabilities are rather limited." You hear a very familiar, and hated voice.

STEINER

The grip on your rifle tightens. You don't have a good angle on him, as he's surrounded by his precious Artificial Valkyria.

"Wait, hold it!" You say quickly, changing your mind. The Imp squad begins to move as one of the V4s takes a step back and charges its lance, blasting the door open with a flash of blue light. The Imps and the V4s begin stepping through one by one, and then you see Steiner's back...

You pull your trigger twice and drill one into his back, causing him to stumble forward. However, you can't tell if he's dead or not, as immediately the Imps and V4s surrounding him spin around to open fire. You see a pair of V4s bend down and drag the body of their master to safety.

The return fire is pretty harsh. You feel a Valkrur beam pass just above you, crisping a bit of your hair, but you're otherwise fine. Lucas is also hit but you see the shot sizzle uselessly against his heavy ablative armor. Unfortunately, you see Sparky and Lucina take direct hits, causing them both to flinch away in pain. Milo unfortunately takes an unlock shot to the shoulder and he goes down screaming.

Fortunately, your friends' return fire is pretty punishing as well. Two frag lances streak in and score direct hits on the group, sending fire and shrapnel hurtling through the hallways. Combined with some deadly accurate gunfire, and pretty much all four of the Imp commandos in the group are wiped out, but there are still four armored Artificial Valkyria standing, though they seem more concerned with getting Steiner to safety than fighting.

And suddenly there's a huge BLAST that engulfs the entire hallway, showing you with bone fragments as the shockwave hurtles across you. You look up and you see what has to be the largest Artificial Valkyria you've ever seen standing between you and the door, its lance glowing bright blue as it charges again.

Its darkened slits scan you and you group, and then it seems to lock onto something of interest.

FALYYYYYYYYYYYNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. It growls.

"N-no! You're supposed to be dead!" Falynn gasps.

"TIIIIIIME TO PLAAAAAAAYY!"

Another massive lance blast shoots down the hall, pulverizing the wall at the other end. Distressingly enough, you can see water starting to leak in. This fight was literally tearing the whole structure apart, which was not good when it had to hold back millions of tons of seawater.

"M-Morgan!" Falynn cries. "That thing's after me! I-I can lure it away so the rest of you can move forward! You need to get to the control room before the Imps!"

"No way, Falynn, we're going to end this bastard together!" You yell.

Then your sniper sense notice something. Every time Kravchenko, or the thing that used to be Kravchenko, moved its head around ,you catch a glimpse of exposed flesh around its neck. If you could time it right...

"Morgan, I got an idea." Falynn says as she crawls up next to you. "It's a bit dangerous, but there's an... um... trick me and Charlotte practiced a lot, in case we had to fight really big enemies or vehicles on our own. It involves some close combat so we'll need some cover getting in."

While the MG doesn't quite have the punch needed to get through Kravchenko's armor reliably, it does cause him to flinch, preventing him from firing his energy lance for a few more crucial seconds. Sparky manages to get two lance shots off with Edwin following up with a third. The three lances slam directly into Kravechenko's chest, causing armor plate to splinter and crack, but it still holds firm.

With the perfect opening, Falynn sprints in, her gear and tools clattering as she slides in at the foot of Kravchenko's massive form. She then holds her shield above her and yells, "Char! Go!"

Charlotte then follows up, sprinting to the stunned Kravchenko and leaping on top of Charlotte's shield. Falynn grunts as she heaves up right when Charlotte jumps, giving her the boost she needs to grab onto Kravchenko's armored collar. Charlotte then pulls out her pistol, jams it into Kravechenko's neck, and starts firing.

Such teamwork and coordination, it makes you feel almost jealous you didn't have something like that with Simo.

"S-should we fire?" Sparky asks.

"That's a stupid question." Edwin sighs. "If we do, we might hit Falynn or Charlotte."

Finally, Charlotte unloads another clip right into Kravchenko's neck, and this time, it starts to take effect. Kravechenko's movements begin to slow, and he finally slumps down, his energy spent.

"DAMN." Charlotte groans as she finally lets go of Kravchenko's armored collar and massages her shoulder. "That was one tough bastard!"

However, Kravechenko is still alive, though just barely. He tries to reach out to grab Charlotte, but the weight of his own armor works against him. Then you see Falynn step forward.

"Falynn?" Lucas blinks.

"Wait." You stop Lucas. You were there that day, and you heard her screams. Falynn had to finish this on her own.

Falynn stands over Kravchenko, who tries to crane his head up to look at her. She then bends down, and carefully pull his helmet off. He had definitely seen better, days, as his face was frail and gaunt, and heavily scarred. However, his eyes glowed a deathly blue, that did nothing but glare at Falynn.

"FAL-"

"SHUT UP!" Falynn screams as she brings her wrench down on Kravchenko's head. "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!"

The repeated impacts echo throughout the room, but everybody is too shocked to stop her. Finally, after what seems like an eternity, Charlotte finally grabs Falynn's arm.

"Fal, stop it! You're just hitting the damn floor tiles now!"

She was right. Kravchenko's head was literally nothing more than a pile of mush. You let go of Lucas and he rushes forward. You can the hear Falynn start sobbing uncontrollably.

"She got what she wanted, while I want is slowly getting away and getting closer to the control room!" You shout. "Falynn's not the only girl here who's bee victimized!"

The whole hallway suddenly becomes quiet.

"Fine." Lucas nods tersely. He picks up Falynn in his arms. "Let's go."

"Boy, your squad sure has problems." Vinny mutters to his niece, miming the cuckoo motion.

"Like you wouldn't believe." Sparky sighs.

"Guys... can somebody PLEASE have this looked at?" Milo whimpers as he clutches his shoulder wound.

Your squad follows the path Steiner had forged. Fortunately, since you had left the lockdown in place, Steiner had to literally blow or cut his way through every door, which slowed him down considerably.

Finally, you reach the end of the path, where you see a massive, armored door with a hole cored through it.

"Is that you, Alisa?" You hear Steiner's voice call out from inside.

"What do you want?" You shout."And stop calling me that!"

"Oh, Alisa, always so temperamental." Steiner chuckles. "I hate to admit it, but I simply cannot decipher this confounded control system, and my V4s here can only provide so much help."

"And why should I listen to you?" You yell.

There, you see Steiner sitting at one of the chairs near it. You move slowly but determinedly towards him.

"Good..." Steiner wheezes, and you see that his shirt is soaked with blood. Apparently that first shot had actually done some serious damage.

"What do you want?" You say, standing above Steiner.

"As you can see, I've been reduced to a dying old man, thanks in part to you." Steiner sighs. "Would you grant a dying old man... no.... your father one last wish?"

"You're still thinking about that crap!" You shout. "And you fucking wonder why I want nothing to do with you!"

"Well.... I have an incentive this time." Steiner grins. "I'll grant you one question. Anything, really, and I will answer it to the best of my ability. How about it? I'm... a dead man anyways. But you, you've been through the experiments. You know you'll come out of this fine... well, relatively, of course."

Oh boy, that made me very sad for some reason.

Second.

>Fuck you.
A dying man has no reason to lie but he also has to reason to tell the truth. Morgan should probably ask herself what and if she wants to know.

Dragovich, Kravchenko, Steiner, all must die.

This actually sounds good.

hows about we ask our question then kill him?
>>
>>28082945
>Fuck you
Haha, No.
>>28083028
Steiner's too smart for that.
>>
>>28083042
hes too smart for us putting a bullet in his head? i'm confused by our statement
>>
>>28083048
Why would he tell us before hand? He has no bargaining chip then, he'd just tell him to shoot him then.
>>
>>28082956
This...this works.

I'm so goddamned late, but this.

We activate the raginate awakening our powers, what if that speeds up the collapse of the place? The raginate activating disables the place, what then?

"Okay, I have one question and one question only." You say.

"I thought so." Steiner smiles and he raises a pistol and points it at your chest. "Don't worry, I won't shoot you in the heart. Killing you instantly would defeat the point of the experiment. Now, what would you like to know?"

You take a deep breath. You know just what to ask. Something that's been keeping you up at night for years.

"Who's my mother?"

"I thought you would ask that." Steiner sighs. "Look for... look for a town called named Rautja, about thirty miles north of where Vorkuta used to stand. Ask for... Lysa Steiner...."

"Are you really telling the truth?" You blink.

"You will have.... to find out yourself." Steiner wheezes, manages to get up to his feet, and hugs you. "For what it is worth, I love you and your mother. I really do."

"Shut up. You have no right to act like a father now!" You say.

"I know." Steiner nods, presses his pistol against your chest, and fires.

The world suddenly becomes a blur as you feel a searing hot hammer blow to our chest. Your vision darkens as you go into shock.

"One last gift from me, Alisa. I will raise this city from the depths, so that you would not sink with it into the depths."

With that, Stainer takes you hand and presses it against the console. You see the runes shift and you can barely see make out the words:

QUARANTINE PROTOCOLS LIFTED. SURFACING.

And then your vision goes black.

You are LUCAS WILLIAMS, and you just saw a friend die right in front of you.

"MORGAN!" You scream as you rush into the control room as fast as your armor would let you. You storm up to control center and point your gun, but all you see is one corpse and one body barely clinging to life.

"FALYNN! GET IN HERE!" You scream. "MORGAN'S DOWN!"

With that, Falynn rushes into the room the rest of the squad following just behind her.

"Morgan. You're going to be okay!" Falynn mutters as she reaches for a ragnaid. Just hold on!

"Gotta find her... gotta find her...." Morgan mumbles deliriously.

Suddenly, the entire room, no, the entire structure rumbles, causing all of you to momentarily lose your footing.

"What's happening?" You yell.

"Rising..." Morgan manages to whisper.

Suddenly you see security shutters open, and what you once thought were solid walls turn out to be massive observation windows. You wince as sunlight floods into the room. And then your eyes widen as you see what's in front of you. The Lost City in all of its glory.

"Holy shit." You gasp.

>And that's it for tonight! The exciting conclusion to VMQ2 will commence Sunday night! Don't miss it!

It all feels too fast.

>>28083344
It is a shame, really.

The former was unavoidable, the latter less so, but still was going to happen sooner or later.
