It's lunch. And the idea of exposing your crew to the world is beginning to sound dumb. Especially as you look over at your radioman and driver, who are attempting to see who can fit more pieces of sushi into their mouth at the same time. You close your eyes, rub the bridge of your nose and shake your head slowly. Richard's girlfriend Saori seems to have the same sentiments.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and you honestly wonder if this kind of behavior from your crew even crossed Anzu's mind when she offered you up to be interviewed. Granted, the interviewer is for a fairly inconsequencial English-language tank blog, but you're already having waking nightmare about how this could all go horrifically wrong.

"HAEN!" Patrick says, really being a noise more than than the number ten- despite yourself you'd been keeping count. Morbid curiosity is one of your weaknesses.

>Find Anzu, we need to fix this before something bad happens.
>Maybe we should go look for Yukari?
>Have a sit down with your crew and brief them on what you expect of them for the interview.
>Other.

She wants this to look good, she'll have to take the steps to do so. And this involves distracting Pat and Rich away from the venue.

might be a good idea to throw in some vague threats and maybe ask Saori to make sure at least Rich is on the level.

Is daylight time moving the clocks back one hour or moving them forward?

I'm part of an advanced tropical culture that doesn't use daylight savings so it always confuses me. I was expecting the thread to be an hour earlier than normal.

I was being sarcastic.

Queensland is the only state in Aus that doesn't use daylight savings. The Northern Territory is the other one but that's a territory not a state.
Three quarters of the state is in the tropics so we don't get much variation between summer and winter.

>>28147244

You take a deep breath as Patrick proudly shoves another piece of fish and rice into his mouth, showing no sign of choking- first aid training had been part of tanking basics back in the states, and though you have no idea why that training included the Heimlich Maneuver, you're wondering if you might use it today.

"Patrick?" You say, and he looks at you with the kind of pride in his eyes a dog who's brought back half a tree in his mouth has. You look over at Richard. "Richard." He stops halfway through shoving an eleventh piece of sushi in his mouth. You sigh. "Spit 'em out- we gotta talk."

With a collossal effort, Patrick merely chews through the sushi and, over the course of about ten seconds, managing to swallow the entire mouthful. "And waste good food?" You stare at him with horror and amazement. "What's up, Cap'n?"

Richard finishes his a few seconds later in much the same way- actually pretty impressive that they were both able to do that. "Interview, right?" He says.

You stare at him, wondering how he'd heard about it already. "Yeah, listen- they're going to be interviewing all of us." You say gravely. "I need you guys to at the very least attempt to not look like idiots." You look at Patrick. "That means no boasting about your repertoir of fake fart noises." You look back to Richard. "And this isn't a dating interview video, either. I need both of you to be professional- keep your answers on topic and, well, you know how they say you should be yourself?"

"Yeah?" Patrick says, taking a swig of juice.

"Don't." You say. "Seriously- we need to look good so maybe we can get some press for the team."

"Why?" Richard asks- actually not a bad question. "Why do we need good press?"

we mustn't show weakness in front of the boys. especially not towards Anzu.

"Because if we screw this up, or if she even believes we've screwed this up, Anzu is going to make us miserable for the forseeable future." You say, staring at your driver and radioman gravely. "She will find thing- things we've never even considered- and she will make us absolutely miserable."

"So, we've-" Richard starts, leaning back and throwing a glance at his girlfriend.

"No." You state, cutting him off. "No... So far Anzu has been playing with us, testing us and genuinely thinking she's helping us..." You say, drilling into his face with your eyes. "Anzu hasn't even been trying. Right Saori?" You say, looking at the girl next to Richard.

She nods. "Anzu is very creative..." She says. "She gets what she wants by any means, and if she doesn't..." She lets the statement hang like the Sword of Damoclese over their heads... Sorry, World Literature earlier this morning. "You really don't want to be on her bad side..." Saori says, looking a bit worried.

You look back to your crewmen. "So, you're going to be on your best behavior today- no rambling, no bragging about how many pieces of food you can fit in your mouth... Just stick to the topic on hand and give him answers and it'll be done with and you guys can go back to..." You look at the plate full of sushi on the table between them.

"Fine- we'll try." Patrick says, "Anzu scares me enough as it is..."

Well, that was easy. You hope.

You've got way too much to do- it's time to deligate. "Hey Saori, you got the Auto Clubs numbers?" You ask the red-head across from you while she attempts to clean a piece of rice off her boyfriends cheek.

"Of course!" She says smiling and holding up her phone. "I've got everyone in the club and then some!" She flips it open and prepares to text rapidly. "Who needs to know something?" She says with a smile- Saori was to rapid communication what Rose was to gunnery- some sort of force of nature.

"Can you see if you can get ahold of Yukari?" You ask- she hadn't answered any texts from earlier, but it wouldn't hurt to keep trying. "I'm still worried about that girl..." You say, standing up. You've actually got something else to attend to- the Automotive Club. "Also, Saori, try to coach these two on what they should and shouldn't say during the interview." With her influence on Richard, she might actually be able to get a decent interview out of those two.

You hope.

The Automotive Club is where they always are- the hanger. In this case eating lunch on top of the Lee. "Hey!" Suzuki, the tanned and generally least surley of the club waves down at you. "We found it!" She says- "It's huge!"

Nakajima repositions herself on top of the tank to be able to look at you. "Was right where you said it was, Commander." She says, nodding with approval.

"So, figure out what it is, then?" You ask, climbing up the side of the Lee and taking a seat against the turret. "It was German, right?" You say, eyeing their spread of food- you'd neglected to grab anything at the cafeteria.

"Definately German..." Hoshino, the tall stern mechanic who never seemed to have the top part of her overall's up, says as she grabs a half of a sandwich and takes a bite. "Past that... we've never seen anything like it before."

"It's engine is crazy!" Tsuchiya says. "It's got two diesel engines driving generators- it's like a train's engine!" She's the engine expert and you've rarely seen more than her legs sticking out from some tank's engine compartment. "Really complex stuff. Typical German engineering..."

You sigh, you'd hoped that it'd be something relatively easy for them to get running- maybe even have it time for Saunders. "It's using an 88mm though, right?"

Nakajima nods, finishing a cup of noodles. "Yeah- looks like a Tiger's turret. Maybe it's some sort of prototype like the Excelsior?" She sighs. "Either way, it's going to be a while until we can get it up and running."

Ammo, spare parts.

What about whole tanks?

Since at least on this quest seems that thing is non existent. Miho mentioned how Kuromorimine hunting for any Tiger II they can find, and even try to reconstructed the wreckage they can find. If a whole tank replica do produced, surely Kuromorimine can just buy it fresh from factory.

Not sure how is it on GuP canon or in LGA quest.
>>
>>28151750
Maybe they only manufacture the more commonplace tanks and the weird prototype tanks are more or less unheard of and never get to be produced in large quantities.

Maybe it's just a matter of costs? Full reproductions could be several factors more expensive than just getting surplus tanks up to snuff--especially for larger or late-war tanks. On top of this, reproduction build quality could be anywhere from milspec to shoddy, based on quality of materials, whether or not the accurate machining tools are used, and other factors.
>>
>>28151750

It's a mixed bag, actually.

Certain tanks are more easily replicated- less technically complex tanks like the Sherman and T-34 are widely available since they were manufactured so widely, however heavier or more complex tanks are prohibitively expensive to recreate. (More advanced German tanks tend to be rare for this reason- even having a Tiger or Panther is something of a status-symbol for a team- having a Tiger II is almost unheard of...)

Not to mention the plans and blueprints for a lot of tanks were often lost when factories or archives were bombed during the war- another reason American Shermans are common enough for Saunders to run literally dozens of them is that they're incredibly well documented so it's relatively easy to make good reproductions of them.

"Define 'a while'?" You ask Nakajima. "Days? Weeks?" You really don't want to rush them- they've already got their hands full maintaining the team's tanks as it is.

She looks back at the last member of the Auto Club- Tsuchiya, one of the few girls at Oorai to already have a car, mainly because having one was almost useless on such a small space- you could generally walk or, at worst, ride a bike wherever you needed to go. "Well- considering we'll have to re-disassemble it and get it back up here piece by piece..." She shrugs. "Probably about a month before we even start getting it back together. And then you have to take into account our maintainance work for the rest of the tanks..."

You get the picture and it's a bit disappointing. "What if I could get the rest of the team to help?" You offer. "Maybe if there were more people."

"It's not a matter of manpower," Nakajima adds. "It's a matter of throughput- we can only disassemble it so quickly, not to mention there's only really enough room to get a single cart going back and forth to carry the stuff." She takes another bite of sandwich. "The Automotive Club of old had dozens of members to take that thing apart and, just like Miho said, they probably brought it down there over a few months..." She shakes her head. "It'll be done when it's done, but it's way too early to tell you how long that'll be. Either way though..." She glances back at the rest of the crew before looking back to you. "Thanks- that tank means a hell of a lot to us, both for the team and for the history of our Club." She nods at you. "We'll get it done and we'll make it worth your wait."

You need to find Anzu, that much you know. Of course when she'd told you about the interview earlier she'd given almost nothing in the way of details- you need to find out more about what she wants out of the interview and why she's doing it. But, as you crawl down off the top of the Lee, you hear your stomach protest- you didn't eat breakfast this morning. Your stomach was still upset after the destruction wrought on it by yourn grandfather's chili.

You look at your watch- another thirty minutes of lunch. Plenty of time to grab a bite before you go off to face the Class President and her entourage. So you head back towards the cafeteria, contemplating just what items would probably be least likely to cause your upper digestic system to go into open rebellion- noodles are supposed to be pretty tame, right?

As you're about to enter, your name is called over the din of the crowd. "Russells!"

You turn around and see the fluffiest tank loader pushing towards you. "Yukari?" You say. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU-"

"No time, Russells!" Yukari says, panting and out of breath. "Where's Miho. Have information. Video needs editing."

Well, there goes lunch.

>Last time on Sheilas and Sentinels

>Aly turned and quickly sighted in with her binoculars. She had no trouble finding the rather large flock of seagulls taking off from the trees ahead of them. "Shouldn't have opened my damned mouth."
>And then the first crusader burst from the treeline.

Alysha ducked into her tank immediately, closing the hatch. She grabbed her handset and started yelling. "Take them down now! Don't let them get into range!" Into the tank, she cried, "Get this bitch into gear! I want those tanks dead NOW!"
No one wasted any time on replying as Sarah readied a round and Ellie aimed the gun. "Firing!" The breech blasted back with a deafening WHUMP, and the gunner-loader pair was moving as soon as the breech was back in position. Alysha looked through her cupola vision block to confirm the shot. The shot sailed over the oncoming crusader and landed where it had been a moment before. As she watched, another two burst from the trees.
"Gunner, adjust for lead!"
"Roger!"
"Up!"
"Firing!" Another shell left the barrel and thudded into the face of the turret of the lead crusader, just as two other shells impacted the tank. One of its tracks was torn off, and the crusader spun out of control, ripping up grass and dirt and ending up on its side.
"Ouch," Alysha muttered to herself, hoping the occupants hadn't been seriously harmed. "Gunner, fire at will!"
"Up!"
"Firing!"
Again, the seventeen pounder spoke. The shell hit the dirt to the left of its target, sending chunks of turf flying. "Miss!" Alysha called into the tank. "Adjust left two degrees!"

A sudden flash in the distant treeline caught Aly's eye, and her instincts reacted before she could.
"Brace!" she screamed as a shell smashed into the sentinel to her right. The tank stopped firing, and a white flag signalled its demise. And then the fear set in.
"Retreat, retreat, retreat!" she screamed, both to her driver and her headset. The tank shifted backwards, rolling into cover behind the hill. The other remaining sentinel soon followed. They were hidden from the approaching tanks, but so were the approaching tanks hidden from them. Without eyes on the enemy, Aly had no idea what they would do. They were outflanked, outnumbered and, Aly realised, completely outsmarted.

Aly quickly grabbed her map and did some very quick mental exercises. The two remaining cruisers were moving west across the field towards her hill, with a sentinel covering them from the tree line to the east. There was an open gap to the south, but it only -seemed- open. Taking into account the last known position of the matildas and the Churchill, they would be moving into position at the southern end of the clearing in less than a minute, no doubt waiting to catch Aly and her team as they tried to flee south. Alysha's team were pinned behind a hill in the top right corner of the playing field, with enemies to the east and south. They were trapped. Unless... Aly did some quick thinking. The traverse rate of a sentinel's turret is twenty degrees per second. So if they came from an unexpected direction, the time it would take for the sentinel to aim at them would be... Aly snapped her fingers. Perfect! She was still holding the radio, so she lifted it to her mouth and spoke.
"Who's left with us?"
"Danni's tank," came the reply.
Aly sighed in relief. "Good," she said. "Here's the plan..."

Matsumoto Miko glared through her commander's periscope. The Australians had hidden themselves behind the hill and hadn't come out yet. They must have realised they were trapped. It didn't matter in the end, but Miko had wanted them to fall into her trap.
Her radio blared. "Infantry tank team is in position! Over!"
"Received," Miko replied. "Do you have eyes on the Australians, over?"
"Negative, commander! Over!"
"Received. Remain in your position. Cruiser team, report."
A different voice replied. "Cruisers are moving steady, commander. ETA to target is thirty seconds. Over!"
"Received. Out." Miko returned her eyes to her periscope. The Australians still hadn't shown themselves. Were they waiting for the cruisers to come over the rise so they could shoot the weakly armoured bellies? The cruisers weren't even going to scale the hill until the other tanks had moved up, so-

A shot from the right sailed into the lead crusader, instantly killing it. The second crusader stopped and then began turning to face the sudden threat from the north.
"Break break break!" someone yelled. "Sentinels spotted to the north! T-" The rest of the signal was cut off as a round slammed into the second crusader. Miko had already turned her periscope north before this happened, however, and as the crusader me its simulated demise, she spotted the pair peeking out from the northern side of the hill. "Gunner, target north, at the base of the hill!" Dammit, if only she had been watching her sectors properly, they wouldn't have-
The Australian's seventeen pounder turned and aimed at her tank.
"DRIVER, FULL RIGHT! FULL RIGHT! FULL RIGHT!"
-Clang!-

"Good hit!" Alysha said as she patted Ellie on top of her head. She grabbed her radio and called, "Their cover's dead! Go go go!" She didn't need to say it twice as Vin shifted the tank into gear and floored it. Hundreds of metres south, beyond the 'burning' wrecks of crusaders, the Matilda and Churchill tanks opened fire. But as a two hundred metre shot at a moving target through smoke and flames, they predictably missed. The tanks burned across the clearing and into the trees, leaving the wrecks of four tanks behind them.
