Epic /tg/ stories and screencaps. Id like to start with my favourite of all time, The Adventures of Edgardo: Overflowing Spirit.

If the guy who originally wrote this somehow sees this, you need to get that shit copyrighted and have someone make an animated series.

That's all I have, but I know this board has the best stories, so let's hear them.
>>
>>28263904
I could try to regale the tale of how our DM more or less put us through an alternate version of the legend of Tamamo-no-Mae. I forget a lot of the rolls and such unfortunately and I don't know if it would be the most interesting but if you want to hear it I can give an attempt.

As far as I know, /tg/ has never refused storytime. Let's hear it, anon.

Alright. So the game was basically a heavily homebrewed version of D&D set in Feudal Japan...mostly. I say mostly because the setting threw in pretty much the entire kitchen sink of Japanese folklore and mythology, as well as a bit of European as well, mostly for the race choices. Our group where all more or less ronin and other various mercenaries that had been hired by an employer to meet at an inn in this small town called koriyama, just a few miles north of Nasu. I'd picked myself a human warrior who'd traveled from the west while exploring the world in search of fame and fortune. My bro picked a dullahan ronin who weilded a massive kanabo and took no shits from anyone. We also had a half-oni monk and a homunculus onmyoji which was more or less a re-fluffed and slightly altered Sorcerer. Homonculus in the setting where more or less artificially created elf-like humanoids with really large forearms and hands and cat-like eyes. The party socialized in the inn and enjoyed a meal together while they waited for their employer to appear and explain the job to them. A few moments later a woman in rather modest robe who was described as perhaps one of the most striking women we had ever seen walked in. She sat down at the table after giving a bow and introduced herself as Mizukume, though she also was known as Tamamo-no-mae. She wanted our help in proving that she had been framed for the attempted murder of the emperor.

Just Wiki'd Tamamo-no-Mae, sounds interesting.

Being the most versed in eastern folklore besides our DM I was both amused by this... and more than a little worried for my character. Still I rolled with it. The DM had us roll to see how much we'd heard about the attempted murder. I rolled respectably enough to know that someone had attempted it and that an Onmyoji by the name of abe no yasuchika had used their miraculous powers to expose them. The man had pretty much become a household name by now and had more or less become the emperor's personal adviser on all matters. The others had rolled very poorly and nor heard much... except my bro oddly. He rolled high enough to have basically heard nearly every little detail, including that the target was a kitsune that had disguised as a human. She explained to us that it had not been her, and while she was indeed a kitsune she held no ill will towards the emperor, they where going to be married days before he became ill. She went over the events leading up to her being forced to flee. It was more or less a more in-depth version of the myth. Laying out various scrolls and such it contained all sorts of details and evidence she had accumulated. It was our job to use it to root out the most likely suspect and eliminate them. There where a few that stood out but the Onmyoji, Abe no Yasuchika stood out the most to me. He had been in town several days before hand to help heal some locals and had been in the imperial palace twice before he had 'exposed' Tamamo-no-Mae. He also had a lot to gain from this giving him a solid motive. We would have to be discreet since some of the emperor's best men where hunting her and would probably murder anyone working with her. We argued a bit but finally agreed. She was paying damn well and had a pretty solid alibi for her case. By the time all was said and done it was late in the afternoon so she paid for all our rooms and we spent the rest of the day preparing for the adventure at hand.

The next morning we set out to bring justice to this fair lady. Well the monk and I where at least. My Dullahan bro was mostly just sticking around because he figured it would be amusing to see if we succeeded or failed and the homunculus was only in it because she needed the money bad. Tamamo-no-Mae had actually gotten us a wagon with horses to make our travels a bit easier. Being at one time the potential wife of Emperor Konoe has it's benefits after all and she had a lot of income to work with to get us started at least. After we left town we would be on our own though. The Dullahan almost immediately decided he wanted to be the driver. He was really going for the headless horseman thing a bit and had taken a number of ranks in animal handling and such. We mostly did casual chatter as we rode to the nearest town north of us. I decided I wanted to dig up as much dirt as I could on this Abe no Yasuchika character as I could. The man was my prime suspect. Not too long into the ride we where beset upon by a bunch of bandits. Dullabro hit one of them so hard they ended up embedded in a nearby tree. On the whole not a very hard encounter barring one nasty botch which resulted in me accidentally dropping my sword on my foot, stabbing it. (cont. I should really get in the habit of doing this more often.)

Along the way we encountered the occasional traveling merchant or friendly youkai. There was a brief scuffle with a tengu that tried to steal the half-oni's prayer beads but it was resolved relatively diplomatically and the sun was starting to dip down in the sky. Most of this had been character interaction with many jokes being passed around... then the DM threw IT at us. There was what the DM described as a thunderous crowing noise which sent chills down our spine and the ground quaked and shook while trees cracked and snapped like the god damn darkness from Alan Wake was coming after us. Out of the trees came a massive form, which could only be described as a godzilla sized fire breathing chicken. The moment he said chicken all tension was lost. I recognized it as a youkai called a basan and probably should have been more intimidated but come on. It's a giant chicken! Luckily for us we managed to not be noticed by it without much effort as we set up camp for the night. After the session was over our DM showed us the stats the thing had. It would have probably stomped us hard. I cooked up some campfire stories and told some tales about my knights previous adventures back in the west. One thing I forgot to mention was that Tamamo-no-Mae was not coming with us. After fleeing from the capital she was saved by a monk named Genno whom she befriend and would be hiding with him while we tired to redeem her. (cont.)

The next day comes and we arrive at the village. Me and the dullabro get a few odd looks from the locals since we seem quite outlandish in our suits of armor and such. We asked around about Abe no Yasuchika.

He was apparently a man who had great skill in healing, and particularly in dealing with magic poisons. Didn't take a genius for me to see where the DM was gonna go with this but I kept my trap shut, meta gaming and such. I could have a suspicion but if I wanted to prove anything I'd need evidence. I share my theory with the homunculus. Since she's the product of alchemy she has some innate ranks in it and she threw a few more in as well so we agree to see if we can't put my conjecture to the test. We did some tests with people that had been treated by him in the village and a pattern started to form. Every one of them had been affected by the same deadly wasting poison. Nothing could cure it but a VERY specific antidote. One that our Onmyoji adversary just so happened to be one of the sole makers of. The poison could easily be concealed in food or drink without the victim knowing as could the antidote. It was becoming painfully clear that this man was abusing his arts for personal gain in a most heinous manner. His ancestors would be ashamed. This moment formed sort of a friendship bond between me and the homunculus who called herself Aya. My character's name was Douglas. We met up and laid out our findings. The others had tried to learn more about the Onmyoji himself and come up with very little. He claimed to be a descendant of the famous and heroic onmyoji, Abe no Seimei but no one could remember for the life of them if he had ever said where he was from nor if he had any living family. The man was an enigma and all anyone knew was that he was a healer who claimed to be the descendant of a hero. (cont.)

Combining my knowledge of western sciences with Aya's alchemical knowledge we decided to pretty much form the Feudal equivalent of CSI. We kept what evidence we'd gathered in a trunk in our wagon and where trying to decide on if we should make a hideout somewhere. We'd actually been lucky enough to get an empty vial of what had been Yasuchika's cure. There where still trace enough amounts for the homunculus to work with. Taking down someone like Abe no Yasuchika would not be easy. He had a veritable cult of personality in addition to the emperor's ear. If we wanted to make our move then we would need a very large body of evidence and more support than we already had. Allies would be the most important asset for us and right now we where in short supply. That was about to change soon enough. (cont.)

Indeed it is, as is the story tied to it.

>>28265718
Our first ally would come in a rather unexpected form, that of a man named Miura-no-suke, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Happy with our first successes in the case and rather hungry since we forgot to have lunch, we decided to spend a bit and enjoy a meal at a local food stand which was said to serve some of the best foods in town. There was another man seated with us, a somewhat rugged hunter who was drinking himself stupid and seemed washed in self pity. He didn't strike me as much at first and while we enjoyed our food and drink we started to discuss our plans for digging deeper into things. We'd only managed one lead, that our adversary might have been born in a village in the mountains to the west. While discussing things the half-oni just happened to let slip some things about redeeming Tamamo-no-Mae. Before we even knew what hit us the hunter was on him, demanding they tell him everything we knew about Tamamo-no-Mae. Dude was a very depressed and desperate Miura-no-suke. With a few good diplomacy rolls we managed to talk him down. He was one of the best hunters in all of Japan and had been personally picked by the emperor to hunt down Tamamo-no-Mae who was someone he had known and been really good friends with. He couldn't believe she would ever do such a thing but Yasuchika had provided a good enough case to support it and the emperor himself had told Miura-no-suke and his friend Kazusa-no-suke personally to hunt her down and kill her. We offered to present our evidence that she was being used as a scapegoat and he reluctantly accepted. Upon seeing what we had discovered his doubts about his mission where rekindled. With a bit of talking we convinced him to join our cause. He knew the land better than any of us and was really skilled with a bow. He agreed to be a trail guide for us and shared what he knew about the incident. We recorded it down for future reference. (cont.)

One thing that really caught my ear was that Yasuchika had pulled Kazusa-no-suke aside and said that he would pay the hunters handsomely if they brought him Tamamo-no-Mae's tails. There was no obvious reason why he would want them except perhaps as some sort of gruesome trophy that we knew of. He'd also handed them an arrow that was enchanted to be able to defeat Tamamo-no-Mae in a single shot. A powerful sealing arrow of some sort. We'd have to keep an eye out for that and if we could, destroy it. A dead employer doesn't pay after all. The prospect of killing a friend had driven our new friend into a nasty drinking habit so he was going to be a bit of a strain on our cash for a little but we'd survive. As we set out to check on our only lead we didn't realize we where being followed by someone with ill intent though. Our little investigation was not as secret as we thought it was. (cont.)

As we traveled for a bit the world around us started to get dark, Unnaturally so. Eventually it got to the point where the only thing visible to us was the road we where riding on and various headless jizo statues lining the road. An ill omen indeed though me being from the west I didn't understand the significance. A dark figure stood in our path forcing the wagon to come to a stop. They where heavily covered in armor and one could not make out any part of their actual body but they reeked of burnt and rotting flesh. Without saying a word they drew their weapon. It was time to roll initiative.

He is an orc barbarian and rolled a 4 in one of his stats.
orc stat modifiers are: +4 STR, -2INT, -2WIS, -2CHA.

Good old Durk is actually fairly wise and intelligent, for an orc: he has 10 in each, whereas his racial average is 8. But yeah, with 2CHA, he's not really the most socially acceptable chap.

Sorta makes up for it with 22 STR while not even raging.

The monk managed to land a hit and knock him down. We assumed that was the end of it since our surroundings returned to normal. As we discussed what to do with the now dead zombie thing (Besides loot his stuff of course) we hadn't noticed that he had vanished until minutes later. This unnerved everyone and I knew one thing was for sure. We wouldn't be seeing the last of Mr. Crispy. The rest of the trip was mostly uneventful besides the monk nearly getting his ass dragged into a river by a Kappa that had challenged him to a contest of strength. You NEVER accept a challenge like that from a Kappa. Still mulling over the mystery of the deadguy and how the entire world seemed to change around us when we encountered him we came up with a few theories, most of it involving the area being cursed. We paid a pair of tengu a toll to pass. It wasn't that expensive anyways so we saw no reason to attack them or otherwise antagonize them. Not long after we arrived at the village... or what was left of it. Apparently a famine had hit the area and everyone had more or less starved to death. All that remained where mostly scavenger youkai and a shit load of dead bodies. I didn't like the feel of the place and neither did Aya. She seemed to sense something I didn't. Reluctantly we set up camp in the town square. Boy was it a terrible night to have a curse though. (cont.)

We tried to sleep for the night but where interrupted by a persistent and annoying ringing in our ears. The DM asked us to roll perception check. Almost everyone failed. Only the homunculus Aya had rolled high enough... barely. The DM slipped her a note and as she read it she turned pale. The player herself had actually turned a bit pale. He then asked me to make a grapple roll as something massive tried to pick me up. I just BARELY made the roll. As I moved to avoid the grasp of what ever it was a massive skeletal set of jaws snapped closed where I was moments before. We where beset upon by a god damn Gashadokuro. Since the entire village had effectively more or less starved to death they had produced enough bodies to create this abomination and it hungered for our skulls. Angered that it could not sate it's eternal hunger on my delicate brain case it let out an inhuman roar and engaged us. The fight was quite brutal and the thing hit hard. It managed to grapple Dullabro and tried to eat his head... but he had no head to eat so it gnawed on his armor which hurt but was far less of an issue. Eventually we managed to wear the titanic beast down. Being made of lots of bone and such it didn't exactly have anything valuable on it but we did manage to find a small lead. A number of scrolls and such that appeared to be the diary of the person who was our primary suspect. It was mostly boring stuff but there was mention of him planning to set out and explore a cave to the north. Something of interest was there and he wanted to investigate it. When he had returned he wrote like he was a different person... someone with great ambition... dark ambition. (cont.)

Reading further it was clear this man was sinking further and further into madness. There was brief mention of finding a staff of some sort in the cave which had 'burdened him with glorious knowledge and power.' Mild, possibly unintentional Avengers reference aside this thing stunk of one ring syndrome. That or we where dealing with an evil doppleganger. Yasuchika had apparently been a farmer beforehand but now it seemed he was aiming for nothing short of the emperor's seat itself. After a collective oh shit moment it became clear that our slow investigative methodology might not be able to cut it. Dude was probably nearing the final stages of his plan. We rode out the second it became dawn. Our destination? The capital of japan. We where on a war path now. (cont.)

>>28274845
So anyways we where riding along aiming for the capital. We don't have a concrete plan yet but we have a small group of allies and a truck load of balls. We where gonna rescue the fuck out of the emperor and earn tamamo-no-mae the god damn happy ending she deserved!
We ended up more or less being adopted by a cat along the way. Given the appearance and such I figured it was a young nekomata that had yet to become truly human-like. Boy was I wrong. (cont.)

Man I don't even know where to begin, I remember most of it but I'll start from the beginning.
>Start a club with a few RPing friends
>First game we play is a Modern Zombie Survival with a few really interesting mechanics
>We spend time creating characters and what not
>Finish browsing the rules and finally decide on my character
>A young ex-military captain who specialises in dual-welding pistols, who from a young age has always wanted to be a cowboy in the wild west.
>After everyone else is done, I look around to see the other characters and I can still remember the feeling I had when I saw them, it was just pure, unfiltered "dis gon be gud"
>Pure sniper who is basically a slight psychopath with a kind heart
>A Trucker who specialises in using axes and obviously trucks
>Finally a priest who thinks himself a samurai

Continue?
>>
>>28283867
For pure absurdity value, by all means.

But hey, if the world is going to hell with zombies everywhere, I might start thinking I was a samurai, too.
>>
>>28283867
>With all the characters done, the Gm gives the go
>We start out in a grassy valley, thing is massive but luckily we're on a hill and we can see a fair way
>We're pretty new to the game so we all start thinking of were to begin
>Well the Sniper, having a few screws loose just gets out his weapon and fires once at the closet living thing
>We're all like wtf but he rolls beautifully and manages to one shot a drowner type monster
>Lucky for him, bad for us, suddenly Zombies are up our collective jimmies because he let loose the loudest shot ever
>So we run the hell out of there and before long we get to a small silo
>We start investigating it and soon enough we find a father and son living out nearby
>The father doesn't take kindly and starts threatening us
>>
>>28283995
>Obviously being a good kind people we are we try to reason with him
>That's when the Gm makes the roll, the roll that determines this persons personality
>So no worries we start try to calm him down
>'Do you like Coo Coo Clock?' The Gm just sits there and repeats that to us deadpan
>Allllllrighty then, we bite, maybe it'll help calm him down
>He then begins to recite the (Abridged) history of coo coo clocks
>We tell the Gm we try and sneak away however, Mister Coo Coo will have none of that so he starts firing at us
>Initiative is rolled and we all duck and cover, well everyone except the Priest Samurai
>He just stands there and quick draws his katana rolling a nat 20, decapitation
>However just before he dies he makes one final statement
>'I have a thousand little men inside me'
>At this point the Gm is pissing himself over the roll he just did, because suddenly out of the silo right next to where the guy dies bursts 100 odd Zombies
>>
>>28284074
>So at this point the son is more than a little freaked and he begins to run away
>Obviously as chivalrous as I am I run to catch the kid for he will no doubt suffer a gruesome death to the new Zombie hoard if he isn't saved
>So as everyone runs away I go to get the kid, after a little I catch up and start running away
>That's when the kid started speaking what I can only imagine to be an evil demon language while trying to claw at me
>Resolving that he most likely both a demon and impeding my speed I do.. kinda.. throw him into the hoard
>Running like hell from this madness the group bolts it to the next area

>Resolving to just put all this madness behind us we look for a place to lay low
>Luckily in this new area we find a massive military guardpost, thing is its controlled by a gang
>Thinking we can smooth talk our way in we approach the front guard
>Once again we roll for the conversation and what not and the Gm makes his roll for the personality
>Suddenly the guard starts talking about how her gun makes her feel really good
>By this point the Gm is laughing and making personality rolls
>No matter all good we're able to charm our way inside and be escorted to the head of the gang
>We talk for a little and the leader, says its fine for us to stay for the night, so we go about our ways talking to some of the other gang members, trading and what not
>That is until the trucker, starts talking to the guard lady from before who just got off her shift
>Turns out that gun of hers made her feel so good she just wanted to try it out
>She then proceeds to fire a grenade into the side of the room
>All hell breaks loose and Zombies which were attracted by the sound start pouring in

So we had more or less been adopted by this adorable little youkai cat which had started to become the group mascot more or less. As it happened it was a Kasha in their cat form... and one that had been hired by Yasuchika to hinder us. He was a lot smarter than we had anticipated... and he had eyes and ears everywhere. As we traveled we started noticing that the bodies of our enemies where disappearing on us more and more often. Three irl days of side-questing, adventuring, and gaining new allies passed before things came to a head and we realized the scope of what we'd gotten ourselves into. While gathered around the camp fire for the night we noticed that the cat was not there. It took a while to notice since we had grown so used to it's presence. Not long after there was a pained and deep moan... followed by a cacophony of others. They came from all directions as shambling forms came out of the darkness into the fire's light. Zombies. A horde of them. All foes we'd felled in battle revived. A female figure stood on a large rock outcropping backed by the waxing moon and gave a cackling laugh. It was the kasha and she had been building a small army led by the burned zombie we fought on the road. (cont.)
>>
>>28284213
Quite frankly, it sounds like your games would have a lot fewer problems, if your GM stopped rolling for every single personality and just did some actual worldbuilding like he is supposed to.
>>
>>28284213
>Whole place just turns to madness, the gang starts fighting for their lives against the never ending Zombie hoard, the building starts to buckle, so doing the only sane option we get the heck out of dodge
>Not looking back we hike it half way across the zone until we come to a small loading dock which through pure chance and roll luck on our part seems to have a massive crate right in the middle of it
>Excited by the prospect of loot we run over to the crate and open it and as he was first The Trucker rolls for loot
>nat 20
>That's special category loot right there, so he makes another roll
>nat 20
>We find a freaking Scout. Class. Space. Ship.
>There's no stopping this train now
>We enter it and begin work of finding out how it works
>Luckily two of us put a heck ton into electronics/computers so we are able to find the power button
>Starting it up we're greeted with the AI known as Genard Fellington, I still remember his name even now
>Resolving that this AI would know pretty much everything about the ship we try to talk to it
>After a few seconds the AI calibrates to English and starts talking to us
>After a while of talking we learn a few things, the AI as it so happens think of us as its masters and also is a little paranoid, not only that but by the will of the dice gods, he is currently in a romantic relationship with Vender or 'Trader of Goods' from a nearby city
>>
>>28284372
Mostly it was just the rolls, he admitted afterward that the rolls were just to perfect to let up, plus the flow was excellent
>>
>>28284373

Seems I'm not the only one with zombie related stuff. Your story is most amusing so far sir.
>>28284260
We're about ready to get our shit shoved in. We'd done fine enough fighting all these foes individually... and not undead but now we where dealing with what was 3 irl days worth of the dead. That's a lot of corpses I'll tell you. The following battle was an absolute murder fest. The best we could do was carve a swath through the mass of walking dead to try and escape. I ended up getting knocked into the negatives from all the attacks I sustained and thank the gods Dullabro risked his ass to save me and drag me out of there. The DM passes me a note. What it reads pretty much amounts to 'if at any point you die now you revive as a Jiang-shi and must make a will check to see if you don't become a soul hungry fiend that wants to eat the rest of the party.' My feelings are highly conflicted since this is one heck of a double edged sword. He's effectively handed me an extra life but it has about a 75% change of backfiring horribly. (cont.)

So now I'm on death's door and I got a jiang shi curse just itching to pop itself on me. I look up to the DM from the note and he gives me the most blank and stone cold look I've ever seen a person give and just nods. Too this day I still don't know what his intent was for this. Eventually the group manage to break through the horde. Aya kept the evidence chest strapped to her back, it held a lot of our medical supplies as well so it was kinda not expendable. They managed to stabilize me while running but things where not looking good. We'd took some serious knocks from that brawl and had our nose bloodied. We where also down our cart and horses as well. Shit sucked but we would survive... for now. That horde was still after us and the kasha was sure to have our scent to follow. In one fell swoop Yasuchika had crippled our group, deprived us of our main mode of transportation, and forced us on the defensive. The party was pissed, even those that had been in it for the money now. The dude had made it personal. We would need to find a way to deal with the horde though. (cont.)

So we spend the entire night wandering through pitch dark wilderness and wouldn't you know it? We're fucking lost! Half the session was hiking through dark wilderness and trying to avoid being noticed by ghoulish patrols. Our DM made some rolls and said we stumbled through a grove of trees and stumbled into a sprawling and very festive city scape. We'd gotten so lost we'd slipped into the spirit world and wound up in it's capital which was basically the setting's equivalent of sigil. This was mostly a good thing actually since it put us a HUGE distance away from the immediate threat and gave us a chance to browse around, possibly buy some curious wares not available anywhere else in the world, and recruit a few of the friendly locals. Many of them had sympathy for our cause and after a few days our presence ended up reaching the ears of the city's head honcho, the king of all youkai, Nurarihyon. He sent a request for us to meet him at his abode and we could do little to refuse. (cont. Need to go for a few hours so try to be a bit patient. More will be to come in due time.)

Amusing as hell though not sure how it relates to my story. Anyways last update for the day. You'll all have to wait for more sadly.
>>28284826
We end up being escorted to him by a pair of fuckoff huge oni that looked like they'd been feed a steady diet of steel girders. The Nurarihyon wasn't exactly a terrifying individual despite his social standing in youkai society. He looked to be all of 90lbs of skin and bones in the form of an old hobo mixed with E.T. yet he had one hell of a commanding presence. For whatever reason he wore a Star Wars tee shirt with Chewbacca on it, a pair of flipflops, some denim jeans, and what looked to be a Boston Bruins jacket. To top it all off he was smoking a cigarette and drinking a Kirin beer. We never did get a straight answer out of him how he had access to such 'strange and exotic attire'. He asked us to sit down and tell him our story and tell him we did. He took a sip from his beer now and then and listened intently as we told him everything from our being hired to our stumbling into his domain. After taking a long drag from his smoke stick he considered us, then said to come back in the morning. He would have a decision for us by then. We got a paid night at the inn so everyone decided to relax a bit. I ended up schmoozing with the inn's kitsune inn keeper a bit. My character found her a bit cute and decided it might be fun to flirt with her a bit. The DM made a roll and looked me straight in the eye, then said as follows. ' She grins at you slyly, hooks a finger into the collar of your armor and pulls you in for a kiss' This all culminated to her dragging me off to my room and closing my door behind us with a thankful fade to black. There was no mistaking what had just happened that night and my feelings where mixed. It would be a bot awkward to explain this to the others in the morning. (the end for today. Stay tuned /tg/!)
