Previously on Gundam X Quest:
>David is filled in on all the gory details regarding the battle between the New UNE, and the alliance between Estard, Gastar, and Northernbell.
>It turns out David's worries have been for naught, as his Newtype powers are in no danger of disappearing on him, nor will he have to endure the slow painful process of gradually losing them.
>However, with the alleviation of one problem, another arises as the scientist that saves David, Jamil, Garrod, and Techs absconds into outer space with Tiffa in tow.

A few days have passed since then, and with the New UNE declaring them useless, the Newtype Research Facility has become far more accepting of Jamil's terms. Meanwhile, the Freeden's engineering crew is working themselves to exhaustion in order to get the Freeden able to move...
>>
You yawn, arching your back as you stretch as much as your haggard body will allow. Both you and Garrod have busied yourselves with the task of making sure the Double X was spaceworthy. Now, with two bright, mechanically minded people, that would make the process considerably easier. However, the Double X wasn't the only machine you've been making spaceworthy. You wipe the sweat from your brow as you look over the Hyper-Spec. While you weren't entirely sure events would unfold in such a way that you would be able to accompany him in his quest to save his girlfriend, it never hurt to be prepared, and prepared you were. You had appropriated the last working Hyper Bazooka on board, which was previously in the possession of Kai's Belphagor. Fortunately, Neither Kai or the aforementioned Gundam were on board, and you DID make the damn thing in the first place...

So there the thing was, in the grasp of the Gundam X Hyper-Spec's left manipulator, with the Buster Sheath Rifle in its right.
You play around with the idea of checking up on your contacts; most, if not all of them were actively working with the ESTO now, busy with the task of locating any old UNE bases with earth-to-space launching facilities.

There was also the idea of going out and doing some digging on your own, but considering the condition the Freeden was in, and the knowledge that while the New UNE did indeed retreat, you and the others weren't out of the woods just yet.

Of course, there was also that old UNE base that the bastard who kidnapped Tiffa had launched from... Even if there was nothing there that you could use to send Garrod (and maybe yourself) into space, perhaps there was something there to salvage?

What will you do, Dave?

>Salvage the old UNE base
At very least, the launch computers there should have the orbital launch trajectory in memory so that we can at least figure out where in space Tifa is being taken to.

The computers may also have intact connections to other launch facilities, or a database of locations.
>>
>>28311333
> Check in with your contacts
> Salvage the old UNE base
We can call some of our guys to dig for whatever information they can find while we go and investigate the base. If they were capable of maintaining a spaceship, who knows what else we might find down there.
>>
>>28311333
>Check in with your contacts
Check up Carris Nautilus in particular. Also, what are we using the sandshark for right now?
>>
>>28311398
Nah, the Sandshark is on Saints Island, along with Kai, the Frost brothers, and Kauto, maybe Lucille. Though we do have the Frost brothers working for us, if someone knows of any more space launch sites, it has to be them as former special forces or whatever General Staff Office was.
>>
>>28311485
So we aren't using it for anything? Should probably have it ship us some reinforcements.
>>
>>28311502
Well, we did just take out a NUNE base, so we could call in some reinforcements and engineers to help us with the repairs and salvaging, as well as establishing a foothold nearby.
>>
>>28311557
Well, we do need to secure the Newtype Facility.
>>
>Writing...
>>
You check in with your contacts, particularly Carris Nautilus up north in Fort Severn, and although they've made progress in locating old UNE bases, none of the ones found so far have space-launch capability. You sigh; since that was a bust, your best bet would be to get a hold of the Frost brothers, who you presume are back on Zonder Epta. You made a mental note to approach Jamil about doing so later, but for now, you elected to "secure" the old UNE base that the scientist had used to fly into space.

Chances were, if everything was still in working order, you could hopefully find the flight trajectory data in base's computers on the off chance they hadn't been deleted. There was no way this guy could have pulled off what he did on his own, after all. Not only that, but there was always the possibility of finding other things of interest, and the abandoned base could serve as the ESTO's foothold in the western coast of North America.

Before you head out, however... you ponder the idea of taking someone along with you.

You manage to track down Ennil, and convince her to join you on your little excursion. Aside from the fact that she's an accomplished Vulture in her own right, and could also determine what's valuable, useful, and the like, you wanted to talk with her. After all, you didn't really ask her how -she- had been doing during your coma. Like... how were she and Miles doing? For all you knew, they were still a thing, maybe.

Maybe.

But as always, plain ol' business always came before personal business.

You load some equipment up into a buggy that had been parked in the hangar, while Ennil would follow you in her Jenice Kai. That way, in the unlikely event of... confrontation, neither of you would be caught off guard. Of course, should you come across something of interest that you can't just load onto the buggy, there was always getting Ennil to carry it for you.

Once preparations were complete, the two of you set off, Ennil's Jenice plodding along behind you, keeping pace with your buggy.

It took a couple of hours, but eventually you both reach the base.

What's your first order of business?

>Find the mission control center, and acquire the launch data.

But,
>"Yeah... their relationship's sort of... done." he replies. "It wasn't messy or anything, but, well, apparently Mr. Miles is a bit... passive aggressive. He denies it of course, but honestly, I think the guy just needs to get laid."
>>

> Find the mission control center, and acquire the launch data.
First the important part. I'm kinda tempted into researching ICBMs now that we have a space launch system captured, but that's only going to lead to more trouble.

>>28312250
We'll see. Better to ask her how she's liking it so far aboard the Freeden now, and then thank her for taking care of us while were in a coma.
>>
>>28312311
Considering what WMDs did to the planet we'd be lynched if we tried to use nukes.
>>
>>28312216

We'll check out the hangars second. We're doing this for Garrod.
>>

You shake your head; you remember now; Garrod had said that the two of them had a falling out. Asking her about that would be the best way to get yourself slapped.

By her mobile suit.

And enter a coma. Again.

It takes a bit due to the size of the base itself, but soon enough, the both of you locate the base's mission control center. Of course, locating it was the easy part; the entire damn building was locked-- passcode protected at that.

Luckily, you have on your person an electronic security decryptor. No sane Vulture ever goes salvaging without one, after all.

You grin as you manage to successfully disarm the security system, allowing the both of you access.

It doesn't take long to get to the control center itself, but the both of you had to fumble around in the dark until you pulled out a flashlight. Particularly after your knee impacted with the corner of a desk, which led to lots of cursing. Cursing, and some giggling from Ennil.

You both manage to find a computer terminal, and you turn it on shortly after locating the power button. That was the easy part. The hard part was looking for what the heck you needed. You have little experience with computers that aren't a part of a Mobile Suit's operating system, so that just made the problem worse.

>Go through as many of the files you can and see if they have the data you need.

You try to sift through the files, but frankly, your inexperience with regular old computers has done little to help your progress.

Finally, you ask Ennil to help, and to your surprise, finds it easily.

"Whuh... where'd you find it?" you ask, raising an eyebrow.

"The recycle bin." she says. "Seems whoever used this thing last is about as good as you are at using computers."

"Hey now, that hurts..." you say, putting on the best pair of puppy dog eyes you can manage, before the both of you burst out laughing.

From the data provided, it seemed as though the ship that had been launched was en route to the colony called Cloud Nine. If it was a name you recognized, you didn't show it. However, Ennil was another story.

"Cloud Nine? That colony is..."

"Is what?" you say, turning to her. "What's wrong?"

"That colony is basically where the SRA was formed. If Tiffa is being taken there, then that can only mean that the SRA has taken an interest in her."

"That... That's definitely not good." you say.

"Should we do some more digging around, David? There has to be an underground bunker; where else would they have fit an entire spaceship?"

"You have a point." you say, rubbing your chin. "But if that is the case, I doubt very much that there's any leftovers for us to work with. Besides, how would we get down to this bunker?"

"There were other silos besides the one that the ship launched from." says Ennil. "In fact, one of them was busted wide upon. I could drop down there in my Jenice and tell you if I find anything. You want to come with me?"

>"Yeah, sure."
>"No thanks, I want to check out the hangars and see if there's something in there worth grabbing."

You look at her, and nod.

"Yeah, sure." you say, smiling.

With that settled, the both of you exit the building, and return to where Ennil had left the Jenice. It's somewhat of a tight squeeze, but Ennil is able to pilot her machine with no issues. Eventually, you locate the busted open sile Ennil had been talking about, and begin your descent...

>Gonna end it here for now, guys. Expect the quest to start back up a little earlier than normal tomorrow, though. See you guys then!
>>
Okay, once this is done, we need to take computer lessons from Kid and Ennil.
Because God damn Dave, that was embarrassing.
>>
Have we decided on the goals of ESTO? I was thinking something along the lines of:
> Preventing another Space War.
> Protection of its members.
> Promoting economic growth and free trade.
> Restoring Earth to a more habitable state.
>>
>>28320531
Sounds about right to me.
>>
>>28320531
My view is that our objectives are in order:
1. Ensuring the Protection of our members
2. Preventing the Occurrence of another Space war, or providing mediation if one occurs
3. Improving the Quality of Life of our member states, and then the rest of the earth sphere.

To accomplish objective one I think we need to do the following:
1. Continue to improve our military economic and industrial power by aggressively seeking out new potential member states and recruiting them wherever possible. (North American Resistance movement, Satalicon, OC)
2. Funding and supplying guerrilla movements in NUNE occupied territory.
3. Continue to improve and expand our existing mobile suit fleet. Focus on the Crusader and Peregrine.
4. Conduct offensive operations to defeat the NUNE, or at least force it to agree to a peace treaty and to renounce its territorial claims on our member states, and any territory they don't currently control. Probably by invading not!Jaburo or something.
>>
>>28324328
That sounds fine, though I'd prefer if we took a less aggressive approach to things. The NUNE already has Europe, Africa and most of Asia under their direct control, we'd get steamrolled if we attempt going head-to-head against them. We should only wage war if they decide to attack us openly (like they did in East Asia), but otherwise we should cooperate on improving the living conditions of Earth and establishing trade.

Failing that, I don't think the NUNE have conquered Australia yet. We should focus on North America, Oceania, Japan, Australia, and what remained from East Asia to form a stronghold in the Pacific. If we manage to bring the North American Vultures and the Pacific Orcs under our banner, we're going to be ridiculously hard to conquer, so that should give the NUNE some pause.
>>
>>28324438
My view is that given that we are already effectively at war with them we really shouldn't be worried about their tender sensibilities, and that economic cooperation is unlikely until we've hit them hard enough that they'll ask for negotiation. Given that, I advocate and aggressive but asymmetric stance. In particular, our advantage in Naval MS design should allow us to play merry hell with their water born transport and logistics. Furthermore, their elite pilot corps has been effectively annihilated, with the attendant catastrophic moral consequence.
>>
>>28324438
While there is a danger in being to aggressive, voluntarily surrendering the initiative is a bad idea. In fact your idea bears pronounced similarity to the Japanese military stratigy in WW2 which was basically: get what we want and then stand on the defensive and make ourselves as tough to conquer as possible and hope the American's will cut a deal.
>>
>>28324562
Fair enough. We should then investigate the islands in the Pacific, turn them into either fortresses and early warning stations or industrial and naval hubs for our troops. We have naval (and apparently aerial) supremacy, we should use it against them.

After that, taking on Australia and Northern America, advancing the Eastern Asian front, and maybe some attacks on the African and Indian coastline. South America is wrecked, so we won't have to worry about it, at least.
>>
>>28324732
Shouldn't we also attempt to get space launch capability as soon as we can?
Not just for Garrod's sake, but for being able to have global communications and orbital recon satellites to watch NUNE military movements.

Also, what about the colonies? Will we try to ally with any that don't want to stay with the SRA?
>>
Back, gonna go ahead and whip up a post here...
>>
It's not long before Ennil's Jenice Kai drops unceremoniously to the floor of the silo, which opens up into a massive bunker. A massive, very DARK bunker, the only source of light coming from the broken hatch of the silo... at least until Ennil illuminates the area with the searchlight built into the head of the Jenice.

With the area illuminated, you can see something off in the distance...

I don't think our current allies care so much about the colonies or having a space launch capability, especially considering how the NUNE is going to be knocking at our door soon enough. So if we do want to go to space, we're probably going to have to do it on our own.

As for the colonies themselves, sure, if they want our help, we'll do what we can to provide it, but I fear there's going to be a lot of bad blood between the guys on Earth and the guys up there. If we do get around that, we're still going to have to deal with the lack of communication, traffic and who knows what else. Basically, our guys on the ground wouldn't be able to help the guys above if push comes to shove without a space program.

Curiosity gets the better of you as you decide to explore the ship, if only for a little bit; the main reason you went to it at all was to check if it could at least move in the atmosphere.

From what you could tell, after forcing your way into the engine rooms, the parts seemed intact, if a bit rusted out due to age, but this thing was about as dry in terms of power as a desert in summertime. It COULD fly... but it needed a lot of work.

---

After returning to the Freeden and telling the others of your discovery, calls are made and Kauto, along with his engineering crew, as well as both Frost brothers and Kai, would arrive within a week.

You also learn that the ESTO's intelligence division has uncovered the location of an old UNE base on the east coast being used by possibly SRA-allied colonists stranded on Earth during the war, which has a Mass Driver; restored to working condition. Not only that, they seem to have a working spaceship...

You could leave the restoration of the ship to Kauto, which Kid estimates would take the better part of anywhere between three weeks to one and a half months.

Jamil and Garrod both advocate locating the base and getting the colonists to help Garrod get into outer space, and frankly, you didn't like the idea of waiting to save Tiffa, but there was also the fact that the colonists miight not cooperate, and it would be far more prudent to locate a base elsewhere that had space-launch capability.

If you decide to wait for Kauto and the Sandshark to arrive, you can ask that they bring along three more pilots. However, the machines they will be piloting will be at my discretion.

Should you decide to wait for them to arrive, the Freeden will be able to move again by then.

In addition, the crew of the Sandshark will pretty much be comprised of nameless NPC-type characters.
>>
>>28330451
Then lets do that.

>>
>>28330451
Let's wait for them. We can use the time to mess around with our crew and squee like a schoolgirl over our find.

So, in case that the new ship can't be repaired, are we going to combine it with the Sandshark?
>>

>>
You decide that waiting on Kauto to arrive with the Sandshark would be the better option but rather than wait until the ship you discovered underground is restored, you would take the Sandshark with you as... insurance, just in case the colonists weren't exactly going to be... cooperative.

Along with Kai, Shagia, and Olba, the ship would have three other pilots on board, whose names you unfortunately didn't recognize, however, you did receive a photo of them and their custom black Septems... Something about them seemed REALLY freaking familiar.

Nonetheless, you don't dwell on it for long, and begin wondering what you should do to occupy yourself until their arrival a week from now.

>Check up on Kid; even with the ship's repairs taking priority, the Hyper-Spec's upgrade SHOULD be done...

According to your contacts, most of whom are actually working WITH the ESTO, the organization has increased its reach rather significantly, not only establishing footholds on several islands in the Pacific, but managed to reach an agreement with several independent governments in Australia, in regards to "joining the fold" as it were. As it turned out, Australia was relatively untouched by the catastrophe that ended the 7th Space War, and was rich with natural resources, by which they meant that the entire fucking continent was a miner's wet dream. With the resources that you were allowed to mine, the ESTO was beginning to gain a large amount of power in a short amount of time.

From what you've heard, production on the first ESTO-made Gundams had begun, and the first few working prototypes would be finished within a month or so.

One was a variable form MS built using data from the GX-9900 Gundam X, and the GW-9800 Gundam Airmaster. This machine was designed as a "sweeper" of sorts, whose primary purpose was to eliminate large amounts of enemy MS with a powerful beam rifle, which, while nowhere near as powerful as a Satellite Cannon. was perfectly capable of eliminating large numbers of enemy mobile suits. The one drawback to that much firepower, however, limited the amount of full-power shots it could unleash to a measly amount of 3.

Another one was designed as a sort of successor to the Leopard. What it lacked in ground maneuverability, it made up for with its sheer volume of firepower, boasting chest gatling guns of a larger caliber than the Leopard, and a minigun with a higher rate of fire than that of the Leopard's.

The final one was built as a sort of sister unit to the Crusaders, primarily because its frame was based off of a rejected concept for the Crusader, which eventually became this MS. Instead of swappable limbs, it relied on hardpoints to mount specific equipment packages, allowing it to adapt to a variety of combat situations.

With your curiosity regarding the ESTO sated, and your excitement at the prospect of new Gundams, you wonder what else you should do before you decide to wind down for the day.

You make your way to the hangar, where Kid was putting the finishing touches on what you could only assume were the Full Armor parts for the Hyper Spec.

"Hey Kid!" you say, waving at the young engineer. "Is that what I think it is?"

"Yup!" replies Kid, climbing down from his perch atop one the the shoulder attachments. "Should really increase the Hyper-Spec's survivability, but you'll have to rely on your handheld armament until you decide to purge the armor."

"Hmm... Couldn't integrate any weaponry?" you ask, scratching your head.

"Unfortunately, no. I didn't have the resources to do that; besides, adding offensive capability would have made this thing take even longer to finish."

"I see..." you say, frowning. "Anyway, Kid... you seen Garrod lately?"

"Last I checked, he said he was heading to Tiffa's room..." replied Kid. "You checking up on him?"

"Yeah." you say. "Yeah, I am."

---

You find Garrod soon enough, and he's sitting on Tiffa's bed, holding what was probably her latest drawing.

"You okay?"

Garrod looks up at you, then to the drawing, and sighs.

"Not really, no." he admits. "I'm just worried, I guess. Worried, and a little scared, I suppose."

"I see..." you say, sitting down next to him. The drawing in question was of him and Tiffa; she was sitting in a chair, and Garrod was standing next to her, a hand on her shoulder. It was a nice drawing. It felt... innocent, for a lack of a better word. Nostalgic, perhaps.

You offer Garrod a smile, and place a hand upon his shoulder.

"You'll get her back, kid. I know you will."

Garrod chuckles, setting the drawing aside.

"Why do you say that, Boss? Newtype intuition?"

"Eh, something like it." you say, smiling. "Now c'mon; we need to get some rest. Kautyo and thee others should be here in a week."

"Okay Boss."

As Garrod gets up and leaves the room, your eyes linger on Tiffa's drawing. Whatever reasons those bastards had for taking her, they would have their hands full with Garrod for sure.

With Kauto's crew busy at work restoring the ship you found underground to full functionality, you were left in command of your ship, the Sandshark, commanding a bunch of people (outside of Kai and the Frost brothers) that you were unfamiliar with.

Both the Sandshark and Freeden were en route to an old UNE base on the east coast of North America, and with both ships going at full speed, would take a few days.

You're sitting in the Captain's chair, eyes trained on the Freeden, a good distance ahead.

What now, Dave?

You resolve to get to know your crew a bit better, and for now, you could start by actually talking with your bridge crew. There was your second in command, a woman whose glasses and short brown hair, along with the way she carried herself told you that she was no nonsense; you'd have to tread carefully if you didn't want to piss her off, which would be hard, considering every time you so much as even glanced in her direction, she was scowling. At you.

There was the helmsman; a young man with short black hair and a scar on his chin; the way he carried himself, he seemed like a mobile suit pilot, or at the very least, a former one. Nonetheless, he seemed rather comfortable with his position and didn't look like he was literally glaring daggers at you.

The communications officer was bubblier than a can of shaken up soda, considering she was always humming some upbeat tune, or fidgeting in place, like she was trying hard not to break out in dance. Out of everyone here, she seemed the most approachable, considering she'd tried to initiate a conversation with you before your second in command stared her right back into doing her job.

"So... I never got your names." you say, turning to your Second in Command.

"Mister Kauto should have given you a list of your ship's personnel for this excursion, Captain." she replies, pushing up her glasses.

"Well, unfortunately, I didn't." you state flatly. "Did he write it himself, or was someone supposed to give it to him?"

"Well, I had left that task to the CIC Officer, thinking it was a task not even -she- could mess up." she says, glaring at the young girl at the communications panel, causing a shiver to shoot up her spine.

"I... see..." you say, idly scratching your cheek. "nonetheless, could you at least give me your name? I'd rather have a name to associate with my second in command rather than simply addressing you as 'you', or Quartermaster... or First Mate, or what have you."

"Very well, sir. Considering the circumstances, I see no reason why not. My name is..."

"Either one is acceptable, Captain."

"I don't suppose I could get you to refer to me by name, Miss Beck?"

"Not likely, Captain. No." she replies.

"Considering you're one of the more knowledgeable of the crew members aboard, can I ask you something else?" you say.

"Of course, Captain." she replies, her expression a careful balance of professionalism and neutrality as she waits for you to speak.

"Would you happen to know the location of my red shirt and brown pants?"

Amidst the snickering of the helmsman and CIC officer, Beck is about to answer, before she finally processes what you just said.

You head to the medical wing to meet the person, or possibly -persons-, who would be responsible for patching up the other members of the crew, including yourself. Hopefully, visits would be extremely limited, if nonexistent.

Of course, knowing your shit luck, that was extremely unlikely.

"Charmed, I'm sure." she says, still smiling. Good god, every single cell in your brain was firing off a warning. That was the smile of a goddamn -predator-.

For whatever reason, your Newtype senses failed to feel her stride up to you, and place her hand to your forehead.

"My name is Ophelia Widow, Captain. It's a pleasure to meet you." she says, extending her hand.

Remembering that she said something about you having sweaty palms, you glance around her office, and find a box of kleenex. You don't hesitate in wiping your hands, then giving Ophelia's a firm shake.

"Er, likewise." you say. "Now if you'll be excusing me, I think I'll be going now..."

"Hold it right there."

You freeze, and hesitantly, turn around to face Ophelia, whose expression has done a complete 180. Oh Christ quit staring, QUIT STARING OR YOU'LL NEVER LOOK AWAY.

Averting your gaze, you answer, struggling not to sound like you're going to shit yourself.

"Er... what is it?"

"You're sick, mister. As this ship's resident physician, it is my job to make sure everyone, the Captain included, is in tip-top condition." she states matter-of-factly.

"Er, yeah... about that... I suddenly feel a lot better! No need for an examination today, I guess." you say, forcing the best damn smile you can muster. It does diddly squat; she's not buying it.

Shit.

Now what?

You take a deep breath... and sigh, your head in your hands. Christ, she's the ship's DOCTOR, man. She's here for a reason.

"Look... this is all a big misunderstanding, really." you say. "I'm perfectly healthy."

"But if anything, the reason I even HAVE those symptoms is... well..." you chew on your lower lip. Hopefully, she was the kind of person to take things in stride.

"Because, frankly... have you taken a look in the mirror lately? It should be pretty obvious."

She blinks. Once. Twice, and once more. She walks over to a full length mirror, and looks herself over, her expression completely blank.

"If it is, I don't see it. What's my body got to do with y-- Oh..."

-There- it is.

"I think I get it now..." she says. "It's all too obvious!"

"I know, right?" you blink. "Wait, what is? I want to make sure we're on the same page here."

She's chuckling. Oh god she's chuckling.

"It's obvious, my dear Captain..." she begins, gesturing dramatically at you. "That you... think -I- am SEXY."

You struggle not to roll your eyes, and sigh.

"Well... I'd be a liar if I said didn't think you were." you admit. "But c'mon, you're basically inviting those sort of reactions with how you're dressed."

"And what's wrong with how I'm dressed?" she asks. You neglect to answer, waiting for her brain to work out the problem on her own.

"Oh..."

"Yeah, Thigh highs and a miniskirt makes for a potent combo." you say, struggling to keep your eyes trained on her face.

"Is that right?" she says, her lips curling into a downright evil little smile. Fuck, a woman that knows she's sexy is a dangerous thing. Way to go, genius.

"Look... I'll agree to an examination if and ONLY IF you keep things professional." you say, frowning.

"Hmph... spoilsport." she says, poking her tongue out at you. "But alright, it's a deal. These hands of mine will go only where they need to go. Nowhere else."

"I'll hold you to it, doc." you say, allowing yourself a smirk.

(cont'd.)
>>
"Alright then... let's begin." says Ophelia, pulling on a pair of latex gloves with a rather audible -SNAP-.

"Wait a sec... You only said you'd go where you needed to, right?" you say, your voice wavering.

"Of course, Captain." she says, smiling. "And I'll have you know that I am VERY thorough with my examinations..."

As soon as the "examination" was done, you make a beeline for the hangar, where you assume the pilots and engineering crew to be.

Before entering the hangar itself, however, you take a moment to compose yourself, and make sure you don't look like you're wallowing in shame. The events of your "examination" would remain buried in the deep, dark recesses of your mind, where they belonged. After muttering an apology to Ennil, despite her not being aboard the ship, you step into the hangar...

You approach the pilots, who seem to be chattering amongst themselves. As you approach the trio, they stop conversing long enough to stare at you, making you mildly uncomfortable. It was one thing to look at them via a photograph, but they seemed a lot more... -homely- up close.

"So... you're the famed Sandshark, eh?" one of them says. He seemed to be the leader, considering that the other two were simply nodding along with this bearded man.

"That's right." you say. "And who are you guys?"

"Us? Well, we're the fearsome Vulture Team known far and wide as the Black Gale!"

You look at the trio, then to their mobile suits, and then back to the trio and shrug.

"Sorry. Never heard of you guys before." you say.

"Wha--buh--guh... Seriously?"

You can only nod in confirmation as the trio becomes rather crestfallen.

"But still..." you add hastily, forcing a smile. "Just because I haven't heard of you guys doesn't make you any less well known. I -have- been comatose for roughly two months, after all."

"He makes a good point, Boss." says the larger of the trio. "We did only get famous and all recently..."

"Fair enough." he replies.

"Anyway... why don't you three introduce yourselves? I'd like to know the men behind the Black Gale team."

"Alright then. We're..."

"We're...Harlan Pavel!"

"Lauri Icarus!"

"And Elliot Dachs!"

"And we're Team Black Gale!" finishes the leader, Harlan.

You give the trio a polite clap, and resolve to simple refer to them by their last names. Seriously; who names their son -Lauri-?

"Pleasure to meet you three." you say, smiling.

"Likewise, Sandshark." replies Pavel.

"Please, call me David." you say. "Anyway... I was wondering, how long have you been piloting those Septems? Ever thought about upgrading to something else? Like some High Mobility Daughtresses, or Crusaders?"

"We've thought about it, yeah." says Dachs.

"But we've been piloting these puppies for as long as we've been pilots." pipes in Icarus.

"We wouldn't dare pilot anything else, especially since Kauto's given them an upgrade." finishes Pavel.

"You don't say..." you muse. You don't know what Kauto's possibly done to overhaul these Septems, but you have little reason to doubt Kauto's skill, and you figure that it's better that they pilot machines they're familiar with for now. If they want to upgrade, they'll upgrade when they want to.

Now that you've acquainted yourself with Black Gale, you wonder what you should do next.

You decide to meet the group of engineers under Kauto's employ, which he has so generously "lent" to you for the time being. Though they are but a fraction of the number of engineers under the effeminate Spaniard's employ, you doubt that they're anything less than stellar, considering Kauto's high standards in employees.

Sometimes, you wonder if you should have taken his offer for a job, as much of a taskmaster that man was.

Seems the group aboard the ship were an antisocial bunch... married to the job, or something.

Nonetheless, well... you'd do what you could to get to know the engineers... later.

For now, you'd rather do something else.

You need to take a shower. After everything that's happened today, you feel, well... unclean, for a lack of a better word.

You make a beeline for the shower room, which is highly reminiscent of a bath house. In fact, that seemed to be exactly what it was, but on a much smaller scale. You remember that it certainly wasn't here when you bought the ship, meaning that someone, possibly Kauto, had done some remodeling.

A cursory glance around the room shows that there is no one else around, and that there's a sign that notes that there are specified times for male and female bathing. You sigh, thankful that you wouldn't have a run in with the doctor for the second time today. You put your clothes in a locker, and begin the rather... unorthodox Japanese bathing procedure.

Of course, a chance to just simply relax and unwind was a chance you couldn't pass up, even if you had to bathe beforehand before you could enjoy yourself.

Once you slip into the heated waters of the rather large bath tub... artificial hot spring... whatever it was... you feel yourself getting drowsy... losing track of the time... at least until you're awoken by the sounds of chatter.

-Feminine- chatter.

You look to the nearest clock and realize that you'd been in long enough that it was now past the allotted time for men to be in the bathing area.

Fuuuuuuck...

Kauto installed a hot spring into our ship.

I wonder what else he spent our money on. Maybe a bar? Though that wouldn't be such a bad idea, especially if we use the Sandshark for political meetings and gatherings with the ESTO leaders and potential buyers and sellers. Part fortress, part five star hotel.

Okay, this was going to take timing, reflexes like a goddamn cat, and superhuman levels of stealth.

Luckily, you weren't lacking in any of those... at the moment, anyway.

You had to be quick. You grabbed your clothes out of your locker, and hid, waiting until the few girls that were in the area had finally managed to enter the tub to relax. You could recognize Sarah's Voice, as well as Yolande's... not to mention Ophelia's. There were a couple of voices you couldn't place, but that didn't matter; what mattered was that you get the fuck out of there. You had to be quick, but light on your feet... Once you cleared the lockers, you booked it as fast as you could to your quarters, your clothes under one arm, and your hand gripping the towel around your waist so that it wouldn't fly off as you strode down the hallway.

Once you close the door behind you, you let out a breath you hadn't realized you had been holding.

This was turning out to be a hell of a week...
