You are Yuri Ivanov a Corporal in the Tesenturian Reserve Guard who after attempting to save your best friend’s life you’ve been sent into the unknown country called Tristain, a place where magic and mages exists.

Yeah…magic.

However, despite this realization and after the consumption of an unknown quantity of alcohol you’ve somewhat grown used to your environment and with no way to get home in the foreseeable future you’ve decided to immerse yourself in various activities and situations.

Such as waking up early the next morning in a very soft bed in the luxurious and very fancy inn called the Goddess’s temple. You jumped out of bed with your kit and equipment still attached to you as you collapsed on the bed the night before. Your careful not to wake Guiche who’s sleeping deeply in the bed next to yours and trudge yourself to the nearest washroom to shave and clean yourself up.

Once you’re done you look to see that it is still early and seeing that everyone else is probably still sleeping you decided to take a look around town. The town itself was entirely different from back home or the capital in Tristain, the buildings and houses were carved from the earth and mountains. Though you started to question if that was the case where a few of them seemed to be too extravagant or complex it couldn’t have been craved at least by hand.

…Must be magic.

With a shrug and an eerie acceptance you walked towards the nearest marketplace to stock up on provisions. The marketplace had plenty of foodstuffs, bread, roasted meat, and pastries that even made your mouth water. However, you could eat later and had a supplies to restock unfortunately you don’t see much in terms of non-perishable goods so you make due. You ended up buying some bread, some salted or dried meat, and some few canteens of fresh water using the gold you looted off the dead bandits.
>>
>>28364419

>Crafted 3x semi-perishable rations (they only last a few days)

Having done what you needed to do and grab some breakfast along the way you headed back. By the time you reached the inn it was nearing noon and you thought that Half-Pint should be up by now so you decided to visit her.

“Bleeegh”

Only to see her majestically heaving into a medieval equivalent to a wastebin, her hair disheveled, and her movements sluggish.

"Good morning sunshine. Have a nice night with your beloved?"

“Good morning Sunshine.” You beamed as you walk towards the pink mess that is your benefactor. “Have a nice night with your beloved?"

She groans.

“Morning sickness can really be a pain huh?” You said as you sat at her bedside, her face still hovering over the waste bin. "You two should really have used protection if you were gonna-“

You were then cut off as a pillow hit you square in the face.

“Wh-Wh-Who do you think I am!” She yelled out as the pillow slowly slid from your face and fell promptly on your lap. You see that despite her possibly heaving out the caffeine ever since she woke up and quite pale in the face she still manages to create a deep shade of red across her face. “I-I-I-I’m a noble not some wanton harlot….I-“

Before she went on another rant you see her face turn green and her cheeks puffed before going back to heave into the bin which you wonder how it isn’t overflowing by now.

“I know, I know you’re not. I’m just joking.” You sighed as you gently patted her back letting her in a literal sense let it all out. “But see, that’s what happens when you drink a whole pot of coffee and I did tell you that you’re going to feel terrible afterwards.”
“Yeah, after the fact.”

“Eh, what can you do?” You replied just when Wardes enter the room carrying a fresh bin, some refreshments, and strangely enough without his coat. You turn to Half-Pint who only retreats underneath her covers.

“Oh, Mr.Ivanov good morning.” He greets you as he sets the stuff he’s carrying aside. “I see you have meet little Louise while she is….indisposed.”

"The life of a familiar is a glorious life, is it not?" You said as you spread your arms wide emphasizing your point.

Only for Half-Pint to sneak a quick jab to your gut. While the punch itself was not strong considering how frail she is now it did catch you off guard causing you to double over instinctively. “And very peaceful as well.”

Wardes chuckles at your little act before shaking his head. “Indeed, it does sound quite interesting then again I wouldn’t expect anything less from little Louise.”

“…I’m not little.”

“However, I couldn’t put all of this on her. I had heard she had quite an adventure or two ever since you were summoned.” He said with a brow raised. “Care to tell me more. I would ask Louise but I rather not aggregate her….condition.”

He then tugged on the shirt he is wearing now. Last time she was my coat suffered quite dearly.

You can feel her retreating into the covers now.

Tell him the general things that have happened but not anything extremely specific. Like about the guns and whatnot unless he specifically asks.
>>
>>28375558

"How nice for you Louise you caught a man who doesn't mind you when you let your hair down.” You smiled at the Half-Pint who is still curled into her blanket before you turn to Wardes. “Come we'll let her crawl out of the covers in peace. We can talk and discuss out plans for the day outside."

He nods and both of you exited the room as you walked and talked discussing the various things that happen to you that counted as ‘adventures’ since you had gotten here. Though you made sure to keep to yourself on how you overcame these adventures especially the piece of metal strapped at your side. When you finally gotten outside to a small garden or resting area judging by the various chairs and benches placed around is when you reached the end of your tale.

“To make a long story short, 'Poof!' I get summoned, considered my options and ended up helping the kid out seeing as it was a mutually beneficial arrangement." You summarized your story to make sure he understood. "After that, not much happened, made some friends, did some bounty hunting, built myself a home, made some booze and introduced couple of unprecedented music genres to the Tristain nobility."

You smiled at the slightly older gentleman. “Which I’m sure you’re aware of.”

“Your music was…interesting.” He nods. “It was very enjoyable to listen and the princess was quite pleased with your performance earning you full marks from her, you probably earn first place if it weren’t for the fact the other judges didn’t quite enjoy the performance as much.”

He shrugs. “Not to mention a few didn’t quite believe you’re a familiar.”

“But you do?”

“I must admit it is rather rare for a human to be a familiar.” He replied eyeing you. “However, I believe what Louise said when she told me that you’re her familiar.”
>>
>>28380494

He begins to take a few steps forward before turning towards you. “Though I must admit some of your details seem sketchy and seeing the bodies of the several slain bodies I presumed you killed when we first met, I’m rather interested in your prowess in combat.”

He goes for his wand and casually pulls it out. “If you’ll oblige me that is?”

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>28380515
"I suppose it would be beneficial to actually use my sword for once. What do you say to some actual use Derf?"

Use Derf for the fight. We aren't trying to kill Wards so no guns.
>>
>>28380515
"I'm afraid I can't do that, sir. As a familiar, such a thing could be interpreted as an attack on your house from miss Valliere's, not to mention the high lethality rate of my combat style. I also have limited resources to work with in regards to combat at the moment, and I would rather keep them saved for emergency situations."

Then we offer him some vodka instead, or perhaps then go onto say this:

>>28380662
>>
>>28380515
Let's keep with the 'Obscure details' line as long as we can.

"Hmm... I don't think I'm that interesting, but I suppose I could give my sword a few swings."
"Do try to be gentle, I'm not exactly a master of the sword."
*fight with ONLY your sword*
*throw in the towel as soon as he starts flying or blasts you with magic*
>>
>>28380703
We don't want people to know exactly what we are capable of.
Better keep them guessing.
>>
>>28381361
>>28381330
Agreed. Better to keep them in the dark and be able to take them by surprise. After all the Chinese, the Russians and all manner of foreign countries underestimated Tesenturia. It's still here. Not to meantion we probably don't trust Wards all that much. He's only been around for a little bit.
>>
>>28381504
Yea, I mean we haven't even told Louise or anybody else for that matter about most of the shit we can do.

I'm guessing we're sort of treating them like foreign allies at best.
We might like them, but we trust them only as much as protocol allows.

Though Kirche, Tabitha and Sylpheed have been saving our asses enough to score a bit higher on the 'trust-meter'
>>
>>28381757
Let's see
We've told Guice and Monwhatsherdrillhair that we use something similar to a musket.

Louise, Kirche, and Tabitha have seen our comp-B bomb go off and obliterate the golem.

We've told Louise to not hit us with one of her explosion spells due to what we carry. (Comp-B might be completely stable but I doubt and RDG-3 is the same)

And Guiche has seen us pull a fast draw on the bandits.

So yeah I'd say that's about right.
>>
>>28380662
Why not use Derf and the Kukri at the same time?
Derf for blocking and the Kukri for attacking while blocking.

>>
>>28382622
I think he meant that we used the Sword to block, while we attack with the kukri.

Then again, this is just a spar, so there's no reason to pull it out.
>>
>>28382538
>>28382644
What was that style of sword fighting called? Stinger or something? Since it's not used as a parrying dagger, it's instead the primary offense.

>>28382622
Derf can absorb magic. Not entirely sure if he's up to it, considering we haven't de-rusted him with our gandalfr power, yet.
>>
>>28382770
We don't know that he can block magic. So far as we know he's just a talking sword.
>>
>>28382791
We don't know Wardes is a traitorous cunt, either. It's hard not to meta-knowledge when you know how the entire story goes.

At least we can hope Derf feels like bringing it up. Hell, even the protagonist knows he's an enchanted, talking sword. Why not ask him if he knows any neat tricks, or to share with us his combat knowledge?
>>
>>28380515

"I suppose it would be beneficial to actually use my sword for once.” You mumbled as you pulled out your sword. “What do you say to some actual use Derf?"

“Its about damn time!” Your slightly rusted sword roared. “It feels like I haven’t pulled out of that blasted scabbard in ages.”

“…I take that as a yes.” You replied back as you turn towards Wardes your stance in the ready position and judging by what little you could tell by Wardes’s indifferent expression, you could tell that he’s a bit surprised by your amateurish stance. "Do try to go easy on me; I'm not exactly a master of the sword."

He nods and points his wand towards you. “First one to yield loses, you can have the first move.”

>What do you say or do?
>>
>>28382919
He did say we get the first move.
Walk close to him all casual like.

Attempt to push the wand away with the back of the sword while tripping him to the ground. with our foot and then turn it into a wrestling match.
>>
>>28382919
"So, Derf, know any tricks? Or will I be charging him like the animals on the front lines?"

We'd probably be better in close-quarters combat. We could try to pin and disarm him like we did Guiche.
>>
>>28382919
Do a simple rush forward into a feint dodge then move to disarm him.

>>28383024
He's not going to let that happen.

>>28382901
I think we did ask Derf about his past and we didn't get anything out of it.

Memory may fade but instinct doesn't. At least we can have a second pair of eyes - more skilled eyes for this world's combat arts.

And you tripped in a small gopher hole halfway. Are there even gophers in this town?

“Wind Spear…”

Before your train of thought could go any further with this you feel a blow across your chest as you fell forward only to be propelled to move back instead as you flew a few feet above the air before landing hard in the ground.

“…Is that all?” Though your back is on the ground and your eyes are looking towards the sky you could imagine Wardes with his brow raised on how easy the take down was. “If you willing to yield speak now for I’m going to continue my assault.”

Highest Rolls: 19, vs 17

“I told you I wasn't very good with the sword didn’t I.” You said as you gripped Derf’s handle and feeling what you think it’s adrenaline following within you. “So might as well get some practice in.”

You hear the sound of air being cut in which you instinctive rolled out of the way dodging the impact of air hitting the position in which you lay just a moment ago.

Highest Roll: 22 vs 15

After dodging another wind spell you swing your body forward as you bet back to your feet before getting your stance back and then running toward the mage in an arc trying to get to his flank.

“Air Hammer.”

He tries to deter you by launching another flurry wind spells which were shaped into small spheres and launched at high speed towards you.

Highest Roll: 21 vs 20

Miraculously you dodged them though they were too fast and too transparent towards the naked eye you were able to bob through the attack unscathed. Just as you got close to him you bring your sword down him in a downward slash hoping for him to counter it with another spell so you can pull back and strike in a unguarded position.

Highest Roll: 18 vs 20

However, he sees through your feint and just cast a quick spell towards your legs losing your footing so when you pulled you blade back for the feint, he manages to cast another spell hitting you square in the chest.

Highest Roll: 18 vs 18

However you bear the pain as you spun around to go for his now exposed side and getting a hit on the mage.

Highest Roll: 17 vs 19

“Air Saber.”

Which he blocked point his wand where you would have hit you see the tip generate a small current of wind which gain momentum and speed as the current compressed itself and extended into a thin blade like form.

Which blocked your strike.
>>
>>28400686

“A noble just doesn’t know how to cast a spell from a distance.” He said casually as he keeps your blade from reaching its mark. “He must also learn the art of close-quarters combat as well. “

He pushes you back stunning you before creating another sphere like projectile hitting you in the chest again causing you to fly and land hard on your back almost in the same place as where you started. Your chest even with the light body armor absorbing the blunt blows is in a good degree of pain as your breathing becomes a bit hoarse. You’re sure could probably still continue this spar but you not sure if your body will be able to take another blow like that and still fight at full strength.

“That’s three for three, Mr.Ivanov.” He says. “and so far I’m not impressed. Do you yield?”

>What do you say or do?

Yea, the rolls get a + something whenever we're using weapons thanks to the runes.

Also, presumably we should be able to shrug off injuries as long as the runes are active.
>>
>>28400716

"Sure, why not. No reason to go overboard on mere practice after all." You shrugged as you sheath Derf back into his scabbard much to his discontent while you got back to your feet. You look towards Wardes and you could tell he was surprised as well and normally you’ll agree. However, spending some time in a training camp in which getting bruised and beaten up on a regular bases especially by your comrades intentional or otherwise can be a remedy for any over ego or pride.

…Yeah, let’s not go through that line of thought shall we?

“Yeah, as much as I want to continue, sometimes the best strategy is to withdraw.” You sighed as you dust yourself off. “Especially, since we’re on a mission. Thank you for the rather humbling exercise."

You begin to walk and slightly winced as you move reasoning that the adrenaline is starting to wear off and feeling the potential bruises underneath your armor doesn’t give you pleasant thought of what you have to patch up later.

So in essence not too different from your drinking sessions with your friends or keeping Maya in check which is basically go hand in hand.

After shrugging off the pain you look to see Kirche, Guiche, and Tabitha with varying expressions on their faces and you assuming that they’ve seen your spar.

“Hi…” You greeted them in an indifferent tone though you’re not ashamed that you lost but having to give up after a practically one-sided battle may have changed their perception of you.

“Darling!”

Or not…

You see the buxom red-head coming at you at full speed and considering your bruises it’s going to hurt…a lot.

Highest Roll: 10

However, either due to your sores or she was just that fast she managed to tackle you in a way that will make Slyphid proud bringing both of you to the ground. Your body screams as she got you right in the sore spot and if it weren’t for your body instinctively bracing itself when you realize you couldn’t dodge you might have blacked out from the pain.

“Are you okay? You fought brilliantly!” Kirche said as she brought your face into her chest. “Though why didn’t you continued.”

Your reply was a muffled response as you try to talk through the cleavage.

You’re starting to get into a disturbingly familiar position in which you begin to notice that your air supply running out and just when your mind is trying to figure out a way out. You feel Kirche’s arm that was constricting your head loosened and you feel a tug at the back of your collar which your body was dragged out of the red-head’s grasp. Once you were dislodged from the fleshy prison you look up to see Tabitha one hand gently grabbing you while the other is holding on to her staff.

“Tabitha, what are you doing?” Kirche pouted disappointed from having you dragged away from her. “You are planning on having him to yourself? How interesting!”

You see her pout change to a wide grin obviously thinking on such a scenario to which Tabitha shakes her head while pointing her staff towards your chest. “Treatment…”

“Oh, I see.” Kirche replies as she looks at you in realization. “You got hurt pretty bad didn’t you? Don’t worry darling, I will take care of your wounds.”

She crawls towards you and leans her head to whisper in your ear. “And I’ll be very thorough.”

“Thanks, I really appreciate it.” You said as you slowly ease away from the red-head. “But if you don’t mind I think I rather have Tabitha check it out.”

You turn towards the small bespectacled girl. “If you’re okay with it?”

She responds with a nod as she then helps you up and then leads you into yours and Guiche’s room. Once there you sit down on the foot of your bed and removed your tunic and body armor and examine your injuries. Once again your light body armor helped weathered a good portion of the damage but unlike the duel with Guiche your bruises are more severe, the size of the discoloration, and the places where you were hit made you briefly wonder if he was aiming to kill.

While you let yourself stew in your thought Tabitha procured several sack and bags and proceeds to fill them up with ice before placing them on your chest.

Just thank her and ask how we did. The vodka is something that can wait. And I thin the seduction was a joke.

iirc we had very little vodka left. Better to save it to clean wounds and such than offer out of the blue.

“Thanks again Tabitha.” You said grabbing the bag of ice and placing them on your chest the cold making you shiver slightly but offers an immense relief to your sores. “Between the Forquet, the bandits, and now you’ve been a great help.”

She just merely nods her head, takes a seat, and pulls out a book from under her cloak to read. You just lie on your bed and relax letting ice numb your bruises as an awkward silence enveloped the room between the two of you.

“So did you think Kirche was serious when she said that?” You asked trying to break the silence in which she only replies with a shrug as she turns a page so you decided to continue. “She can be very…provocative. I know she means well, but knowing her and Half-Pint's tendency to rub each other in all the wrong ways, I'd probably get caught up in their roughhousing if I let her treat my wounds."

“Half-Pint?”

“Uh, it’s a nickname. Don’t tell her.” You quickly said before trying to shift to another topic lest she might press on. "So, how'd I do for my first time with a sword?"

“Amateurish...”

“I thought so…” You replied with a sigh but considering you never even used a sword before that was a given but after the first blow to the chest you felt a burst of energy flow through you. It couldn’t have just been adrenaline is it? It doesn’t fade away as fast. However, before you continue to think further on the matter you hear the door burst open.

“You fought with my fiancée!”

You turn toward the scream to see Half-Pint still pale in the face and wearing her nightgown.

“What were you thinking? He’s the captain of an order of knights! You’re a soldier! You could have killed each other!”

>What do you say or do

>sorry for such a late update.

"What? No, we are two professional combatants. He was holding back on his magic, and I don't know how to fight with a sword yet. Neither of us was in any real danger, besides it was just a bit of sparring, it wasn't a real fight."
>>
>>28452326
"I don't know what you heard, but it was a sparring match and it was his idea."
"He was curious of how I fight, I thought that I should probably use my sword at least once in my life. Anyway, I called the whole thing off in order to avoid further injuries."
>>
>>28452326
"Two people experienced in combat have a better chance of not killing each other than two amateurs. If there was any danger of us killing each other I would have ended up a lot worse than I did"
>>
>>28453241
To be fair he DID aim at our vitals, so theres a good chance he could have killed us if we didn't wear body armor.

Which isn't exactly visible on the outside.
>>
>>28453306
Should have explained that part better, it could have been fatal if he were to add more power.

After hearing our story, he assumed we could take a more powerful dose during sparing.
>>
>>28454985

"He was curious of how I fight; I thought that I should probably use my sword at least once in my life.” You sighed looking at the Half-Pint as she was catching her breath probably having run in a full sprint to see you. “Neither of us was in any real danger, besides it was just a bit of sparring, it wasn't a real fight, and I called the whole thing off in order to avoid further injuries."

She looks at you as if you were still insane before looking at your bruises currently being covered by bags of ice. “You are still really stupid. This isn’t a duel like with Guiche.”

“This is true.” You nodded before motioning towards your bruises a smile on her face. “He packs a heavier punch then Guiche did.”

“This is not funny, why are you smiling?”

“Well something like this isn’t too uncommon for me, though normally I will be very drunk and there will be several others with me in a similar or worse state then I am.” You shrug. “You learn to laugh at something like this sooner or later.”

Your smile turns almost malicious which didn’t go unnoticed by Half-Pint who instinctively took a step back. “However, Miss. Valliere I would think you will see your fiancée first rather than me. I’m touched.”

“Of course, I did your my familiar and it is my responsibility to make sure you don’t get into trouble or get hurt.”

“Though shouldn’t you see your fiancée first? I mean to visit the man who your love had fought first what he will think about that?” You said in a teasing tone in which the pinkette’s face flared up quickly turned around and headed towards the door.

“Idiot!”

And slammed it shut.

You thought it was hilarious.

You spent the next few hours just resting in your bed relaxing and resting while the ice cools your bruises. Tabitha provides a quiet but reassuring presence as she stayed behind to replace the bags every now and again even. When you felt that you were mostly recovered and didn’t ache as much anymore most of the day had passed and was well into the evening. You decided to leave your room and head into the dining area where the rest of the group had gathered even Half-Pint who seemed to look like she recovered and was dressed in her school uniform.

Why she was wearing that you don’t know and rather not question it.

Shrugging the thought you grab ordered some food and proceeded to sit next to Wardes.

“I see that you recovered.” He said

“No thanks to you.” You replied. “Couldn’t you have held back a bit?”

“I thought that the power was appropriate considering your exploits thus far.” Wardes explained setting aside his drink before turning towards you. “Though I seem to have overestimated you.”

“Well I did say that was the first time I was using a sword.” You sighed. “You could have put that into consideration.”

“You’re still up and about after the fact so I don’t see much of an issue.” He replied.

“Point.” You said relenting on the issue before changing the subject. “So when are we leaving?”

“Tomorrow morning.” Wardes replied. “The ship is already at port and is currently refueling so it should be ready to depart by then.”

“Yeah about that.” You said with a brow raised. “I know this is a port city but I haven’t seen any ocean or body of water let alone a port so what gives?”

Wardes in turn raises his brow at you a look of surprise on his face. “You mean you don’t know the ship we’re riding on is…”

He was cut off by a loud crash coming from the lobby shortly followed by series of yells and warcries.

Of course…

Highest Roll: 20

You instinctively head towards cover prompting you to lift the table as an impromptu barrier towards the entrance of the dining room drawing your sword waiting for the imminent attack.

Or not.

You peeked over not seeing the door broken down or a stream of bandits, or soldiers, or whatever is attacking the inn. You inch closer to the door pressing your ear against it and while the dining room is not near the lobby you can hear the numerous voices of looters….well looting the inn. You do hear a few trying to establish order by telling them to get revenge on the nobles but most are ignored and preceded to plunder.

You shake your head. “The ride never ends does it?”

You proceeded to inch back towards where your group is their wands at the ready some and some looking more nervous than others.

“Good news and bad news.” You start explaining. “Bad news I think the bandits from before brought friends and want payback from what happened before.”

You see Guiche turn a shade paler and Half-Pint gulped.

“Good news is their greedy as hell and are distracted by the available plunder that the inn has so that will buy us some time to escape so we sneak out the back and I guess try to get to the port.”

They nod agreeing with the plan and proceeded to do so.

You managed to sneak out back through the back without anyone noticing and when you and the rest of your group had gotten to the back of the inn you turn back and see a golem.

A very familiar golem.

“Fucking hell, I thought we took care of her.” You cursed before looking toward Half-Pint then towards Wardes.

“She must have broken out fairly recently.” He said as he stared at the golem .

No shit….

“We best get moving then.” You sighed as you look towards them to lead you to the port.
