You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Having gotten directions to the cemetary from Luciana, you and Citrine decided to head over there to visit Volker's grave.

>Congratuations, you are now a mangy DOG!
>While dogs are loyal, they're not all that smart...
>The Princess now considers you to be her friend!
>But while dogs are man's best friend, they still don't count as people.

>Approaching the monument, the two of you look around for Volker's grave...

>...and spot an old lady, supporting herself with a cane.

"Hello," you say, waving to her in an attempt to be polite.
"Hm?" the old lady slowly turns to face the two of you. "Ah, it's rare to see young people around these parts... I take it that you're here to pay your respects?"
"Yes," Citrine replies. "There was someone who meant a lot to us... my brother here just learned that his grave is in this cemetary, so we decided to visit."
"I see," the old lady nods knowingly. "It's a shame that people as young as you two would have already lost someone dear to you..."

She then moves out of the way so that you and Citrine can pass.

"Don't mind an old lady like me, this is how I spend most days..." she says as she waves you along.
"Sorry to disturb you," you say to her.

The marker for the Eschenwald family plot is right there, so Volker's grave should be somewhere close. After scouring the area for a few minutes, you find it.

And it's right where the old lady is standing.

"Ah, are you lost?" she asks.

"You're his grandmother?" Citrine asks, completely surprised by this revelation.
"Yes... his parents died when he was just a baby, so I raised him myself... it's such a shame what happened to him."

>>28405669
I've been following the thing since it was put up and I find that somewhat unlikely. It got a surge of votes from being reposted later in the thread and then again when Arch posted it on twitter. Marianne was ahead by the end of thread last night. Luciana only had the lead at the beginning. Still possible though.

>>28405669

No it was a gradual shift. I followed it most of yesterday.

Besides, a samefag would samefag until his girl won. Why samefag till the votes double? More to the point, why samefag 20 times over?
>>
>>28405669
109 follower oh arch's twitter for 113 votes
as a few peoples (including myself) follow the twitter without having twitter (simply by refreshing the page), that doesn't look that weird
>>
>>28405661
>what are proxies
>what are dynamic IPs

I trust 4chan votes where arch asks for numbers way more than strawpoll because 4chan at least has the most popular VPNs and proxies in existence almost totally blocked out.

Strawpoll pretty much accepts any kind of connection. So someone who votes from home, votes from their phone, votes from school, votes from mcdonalds would add an extra 4 votes.

In the flash-voting method, it's at least more difficult to samefag because it happens in the span of about a minute or two. So unless someone can vote on their phone and lives within spitting distance of a Starbucks AP, there isn't going to be much samefagging.
>>
>>28405610

I actually wasn't thinking it was magical, but that it might have some connection to the Eschenwald family. Or maybe there's a story behind how Volker got it.

I think there's probably a lot that she might be happier not knowing. Probably skip over the brothel itself. Just where we met him, and broadly, the merchant escort job that brought him there.

If she knew the merchant at all, she can probably join the dots if she cares to.
>>
>>28405700
>>28405723
>>28405729
The gradual shifts worry me the most, it only takes one neet to sit down for a few hours and scour proxy lists to get fifteen or twenty votes.

It seems far-fetched that anyone would care that much, but I never underestimate the tenacity of waifufaggotry.
>>
>>28405699
>Reinhold and Citrine are named heirs of volkers estate.
>>
>>28405699

>>

I like this more, I think she probably wouldn't want to know about the brothel and the merchant. She may be angrier knowing that the merchant pretty much signed his death certificate when he chose to go get a stupid sword.
>>
For your waifuing pleasure:
http://strawpoll.me/737032/
>>
>>28405778
The reason why I don't suspect samefagging is because if there was samefagging someone would have started samefagging back and we'd have much closer numbers and a much higher vote count.

That kind of lead seems natural.
>>
>>28405664
No you don't get it

The sword contains VOLKIER HIMSELF who sealed himself inside of it knowing that Reinhold would eventually take it for himself

And whoever controls the volkier sword controls HIS POWER

Seeing as how this is Volker's grandmother and the person who raised him, you figure that she has the right to know...

...so you tell her.

Everything.

As you and Citrine tell her about how you met Volker, the last time you saw him, and Adrien's quest vor vengeance, the old lady simply nods as she takes it all in.

"I see..." she sighs. "Shortly before he was killed, Volker sent me a letter saying that he and Adrien were going off to see which of them would be chosen to obtain one of the Sealed Kings, and that he had another surprise for me... I never would have expected that he intended to adopt some children..."
"Yeah, it was a real surprise when he sprung that on the two of us," Citrine replies.

"But that Adrien... he was always such a hothead," she says with a wistful tone. "I know that Volker would want to be avenged, but he could have at least brought the two of you to me before he went," she sighs deeply. "I'm so sorry."

I think it's possible there was some degree of scheming on her part. The legal systems aren't too clear. Grandma did mention knowing about the adoption, who knows if any kind of paperwork was done, etc.

One of the reasons I asked to show her the sword earlier was that I thought it might have something to do with the inheritance or bind us to the Eschenwald line in some way. "The blade of House Eschenwald may only be borne by a true heir of the house..." Something like that.

>>28406728
You could write interlude bits of Reinhold's happy alternative timeline life in between threads when you're bored.

His life with an actual parent, a great grandmother who loves him, Adrien is probably an uncle figure, Citrine is probably enjoying some parts of Marconetti's nobility. And because in all worlds Reinhold must be a Princess Guard he acts as Lucianna's bodyguard, and romantic target.

This might be too happy to actually work.
>>
>>28406711

I'm willing to accept unlikely, but not completely unlikely. It's possible that Luciana and Grandma Eschenwald know each other. It's also possible that Luciana has spies. So yeah, in retrospect probably unlikely that this was one of her schemes, but I think despite her playful and spontaneous demeanor that Luciana is cunning, ambitious, and highly motivated (although I don't thinks she's "bad").

I doubt Reinhold has more than an inkling of this though.
>>
>>28406812
I'm pretty sure the royal dragon couple was invited to the party, so they'll probably make an impact on Reinhold at that point.

You want sad? Think about Marie in that world, stuck with Monique. Isolated from her friends. Bottling it up. That would bite for Marianne if it worked out that way.

But it could easily not work out that way. I mean we'd have met her when we a lot younger probably. Considering how old we were when Volker died, and how close Luciana is with Marianne, assuming we befriend Luciana when we move here, we'd be her friend for a good 7 or so years prior to the start of the quest. That might help with a lot of her problems.

For sure man. I was interested in his character initially since your characters tend to have a bit of hidden depth, and I wasn't disappointed. If you're gonna do alternate universes, we need Reinhold and Monique to buddy up in a Volker x Adrien way. Hell, it could still happen maybe, but I'd really like Monique to stick around.

"It's alright," you say, trying to console the old lady. "we both turned out pretty well in the end. And if it wasn't for Volker teaching me and leaving me this sword, I never would have gotten where I am today."
"Yeah..." Citrine nods solemnly. "I got married and have a baby on the way, and Reinhold here's a fancy bodyguard back home in Granache. As bad as it was back then, things are pretty good for us now."

"God works in mysterious ways... yes he does," the old lady says, nodding her head in acknowledgement. "...in the end, you both came to me anyways and that's what matters. Now come here and give your great-grandmother a hug."
"You still..." Citrine covers her mouth with her hands, tears welling in her eyes.
"I- I mean-" you stammer. "Are you sure-"
"It's clear that Volker had adopted the two of you in his heart, and I can tell that you're following in his footsteps right now," the old lady replies. "Come on, don't be shy!"

Unable to hold back any longer, both of you hug the old lady. Citrine's sobbing eventually gets to you, and you can feel tears running down your face...

>>28407685
Stop shitposting. That isn't Reinhold's character at all. It's also the exact character every single other friend we've made in this story hates.
>>
>>28407549

Exactly. Looking ahead, especially if it turns out she's ill, unable to travel and visit us, or something like that, it would be a really nice memento to have. I don't want to focus too much on the superficial, but Reinhold has very few "things" that are important to him, other than the sword.

I'm projecting like a motherfucker, but just to elaborate-- my ancestors (well, great-great grandparents) had to flee Russia during the Revolution, we have very very few old family heirlooms-- I don't mean jewels or valuables, but not having pictures, records, etc. kind of sucks. We've got a couple worn photos, along with a single samovar, but that's it. It's nice to have pieces of your family's history. In my attempt to empathize with Reinhold I thought he might like something similar.
>>
>>28407581
Yes, yes. We need her to sign us into her last will and testament.

After what feels like quite a while, your tears finally dry up and your composure returns. After wiping your face clean, you turn to the old lady.

"I just realized that we never actually introduced ourselves," you say. "I'm Reinhold, and this is Citrine."
"And I'm Agnes Eschenwald," the old lady says, smiling. "Now that that's out of the way, I'll step aside so you can finally get to what you came here for," she laughs.

After Agnes hobbles off to the side, you and Citrine approach Volker's grave. It's a simple design, but still as large as you'd expect a nobleman's headstone to be.

"Ehehe..." Citrine laughs bitterly as she kneels down to place the flowers you bought on his grave, "...we finally made it out of there, Volker... I even found myself a husband, and we're gonna have a baby, too," she says, dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief. "If it wasn't for you, I'd probably be dead in a ditch somewhere... I wish you could see how happy my life is now."

After taking a few deep breaths, Citrine finally stands back up and moves out of your way.

We should say a few words, thank Volker, tell him about breaking Monique's sword and winning the tournament, "wish you were here, etc." Then place a hand on the grave and silently swear some kind of oath to protect his grandmother, find the sealed king, follow in his footsteps/etc. (or just one or a combination of those, or other things-- just swear some kind of oath I have a feeling it may do something for us later.)

>>
>>28408841
It doesn't matter. Reinhold won't mention his birthday until someone asks him, and his answer will be "a week ago"
>>
"Um... I'm actually here because I'm working as Princess Marianne's bodyguard, and she was invited to Prince Emilio's birthday party," you say. "Are you going to be there, by any chance?"
"Oh my!" Agnes clasps her hands together. "You said that you were a bodyguard, but I didn't think that it would be for Granache's princess... you certainly have come a long way!" she says happily. "I was indeed invited to the party, but I hadn't yet decided as to whether or not I'd attend... but if you'll be there, then I think I may do so after all."
"My husband and I will be there too, I'd love to introduce you to him," Citrine says.
"Well in that case, I don't have any choice BUT to go!" Agnes laughs.

"Are there any other members of the family that are going to be there?" you ask.
"Ah... I have a nephew, but I haven't seen him since he was a child," Agnes sighs. "Sadly, I have no other relatives who are still in this world."
"...oh. Sorry to bring it up."
"There's no need to apologize, I'm happy that you've taken an interest!"

"Did you have anything planned for the rest of the day?" Citrine asks. "IF you wanted to, I don't think that either of us would mind spending some time with you.'
"Ah..." Agnes sighs, "I was going to spend a bit more time here, and now I have some preparations to do for the party. Perhaps some other time, though?"
"Ehehe, I hadn't even considered that... sorry!"

>any more grandma questions before you leave?

That plan was for the afternoon. I don't think she'd leave an old lady to wait for us for several hours. Agnes would have mentioned something like that if she did.

I'm not sure if it would be too presumptuous, depending on what others think, but ask her for a token to wear in her honor, or what the house colors are, something like that. Over months, perhaps even a year, the casual flirting between us becomes something more. Celestino finally informs her that it's time for her to take a husband, and that he will begin searching soon. Her tearful letter to us makes us both realize how deep our feelings really are.
We beg Marie for leave. She, being one of our best friends, understands and allows it. We rush to Marconetti on lizardback.
Great Grandma opens the door to see us, standing in the rain, drenched to our very bones. She asks us what's wrong. We sob as we explain the impossible situation we find ourselves in, two star-crossed lovers.
She offers, then, to formally adopt us. To give us a title of nobility. It's our only shot, and we take it.
Now, perhaps we can win our dear Luciana's hand at last.
>>
>>28409043
Busy guarding.
>>
If we have time, and opportunity, let's talk to Sir Gregory about the Eschenwald family. He used to be Volker's friend, after all. I'm sure Nico has told him by now that Volker was our teacher, not sure if we should discuss the almost-adoption, but say that we ran into Agnes today, and would like some advice on how to help her out or do something nice for her. If it turns out she doesn't need our help, that's okay too.

Although there would be many benefits to becoming a noble, it's also a whole new ball game with lots of challenges. I think Reinhold would just want to try and help out, as well as get to know, this apparently kind-hearted old woman.
>>
>>28409292
She's old. Really old. Why does she care? For all she knows, she'll drop dead of natural causes before morning.

"Well, I'll be looking forward to it," you say as you prepare to leave. "Er..."
"You can call me 'Grandma,' just like my dear Volker did," she replies, smiling.

Yeah... gaining family so suddenly really does feel strange.

"I guess I'll be seeing you later then, Grandma," you say to her.
"Bye, Grandma!" Citrine waves happily. "We'll be seeing you around!"
"Take care, you two!" Agnes replies with a warm smile.

With that, the two of you take your leave, happy to have been acepted by such a kind old lady.

Explore while discussing grill problems.
Alternatively, explore while discussing our intimacy issues. Citrine was a prostitute, if anyone can help us put the fact that we had to have sex with someone without wanting to behind it's a person who has sex with people without wanting it as a profession.

Which means getting close to the girls, instead of going off of first impressions.

Hey, I don't want to increase shadowruns on this quest, but I was thinking about this entire Volkier thing, while we were talking about it. About Adrien and the dragons, etc etc.

A thought occurred to me: This entire premise of an ambush sneak attack relies entirely on Adrien's word. He was wounded, bleeding, on the edge of death. Yet it has some inconsistencies, like how was he able to bury Volk if he was on the verge of dying? Or How come Volkier was not hit in the initial volley of attacks? Or how about the sword that wasn't broken? Or how about him immediately disappearing without informing anyone about us and just leaving us to the whore house with no one knowing where he went?

I'm thinking Adrien may have not been very truthful to us in that flashback. It's really his word vs that of a dead guy. They were arguing about which one was going to inherit "it" anyway if anyone looks back on it. I understand they were hardcore BFFs and it would take a really large event to come between them. But how large of an event? Maybe acquiring a single sealed king sword when there were three people to share it amongst would have done the trick? Maybe Adrien's wounds were from Volkier merely trying to incapacitate an old friend instead of outright kill him?

It's something to think about, maybe ask around for if we ever learn who was selling that sword to begin with. It just seems like something a murderhobo would do. It's not like he had to tell us the truth.

He takes his work entirely too seriously, and is work is solely about inserting men into shows that were primarily about girls and their adventures because he feels emasculated by their primacy. Even though the purpose of the show is to present young men with images and stories involving pretty and cutesy girls.

I suppose this is why people either loved it or hated it because it took the original barebones concept of Strike Witches and completely went in another direction. Instead of a happy go lucky anime about young women with magic saving the day planefag produced a more mature and slightly insane take on a war where aliens invade and people have magic. Kind of like how hollywood reboots movie franchises and some people throw a fit about it while some people love it.

It seems pretty obvious the chain of events that happened to me, Adrian took the sword of kings, used the fact that it was a superior weapon to make the sword-breaker's technique useless (good luck breaking a sealed king) and killed his companions. Although he's still an inferior fighter to Volkier which explains his wounds.

Where else would he go when he's bleeding from every wound in his body? How about the brothel where their entire business is not asking questions of the people who come in there? He probably could have gone to any church or establishment along the way and found help, but instead, he chose our brothel.

Going down the left path, you notice a long row of bars and similar establishments. It looks like activity's starting to pick up since it's getting dark now, and you take Citrine's hand to make sure she's still there, a habit from your younger days that you apparently have yet to break.

"Don't worry, this city isn't -that- bad," Citrine says with a teasing smile.
"Just a force of habit," you reply. "Doesn't hurt to be careful, though."
"You're just as bad as Marius..." she says, sticking her tongue out at you.

Still though, you'd like to get out of this part of town as quickly as possible... you've dealt with more than enough drunken brawls in your life already, you don't need any more of tht crap.

His family might have been poor as nobility go.

>>28410411
Short answer? Yes.

Long answer? If all you care about is money, being a chef is pants on the head retarded. You are going to work 10 hour shifts in a cramped space who's temperature will regularly exced 100 degrees F. And you will likely get payed only a few dollars more than the dishwashers for the first few years after graduating with $30,000 of debt. It really requires you to love to cook as a trade, a craft, a profession. There are plenty of people who wouldn't do anything else with their lives even if they could, however. It's something you need to figure out yourself.

"Sorry, Citrine..." you sigh, turning towards the source of the commotion.
"Don't worry, I know how you are," Citrine replies.
"Don't stray too far, alright?"
"You know that I'm used to this by now, silly..."

And she certainly is, following closely enough behind you that you'd be able to step in in case something happens, while not so close that she'd get caught up in an attack directed at you.

You guess that at least something good came from being raised in a shithole...

As you get closer, you notice some rough-looking men arguing... with that black-haired guy from this afternoon? And the girl he was looking for is right there behind him...

"You really oughta mind your own fucking business, punk..." a guy with a mohawk says.
"Anything involving her happens to -be- my business, asshole," the boy replies.
"Seriously, I can take care of myself..." the girl says.
"Yeah, just butt the fuck out, if she ain't your girl then you got no business trying to cockblock me."
"Doesn't matter either way, dumbass..." he replies with a scowl.
"Alright, I'm sick of dealing with your shit..." the mohawk guy says, rolling up his sleeves.

Seeing as how the kid seems pretty confident, you decide to stay back and let him handle this, while also keeping a watchful eye on the bald man who's with the mohawk guy.

"You seriously want to do this, guy?" the kid taunts.
"Let's see how cocky you are when I bust the teeth out your mouth!" the mohawk guy shouts.

The mohawk guy rushes in, dashing to the side in an attempt to feint. With all his might, he swings his fit directly at the boy's face...

...but the boy easily reads his movements, stepping backwards just enough to avoid getting hit entirely before grabbing the mohawk guy's arm, redirecting the momentum of his swing to flip the man around his shoulder and onto the ground HARD, holding him in place with his own arm.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH MY ARM!!! YOU FUCKING BROKE MY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM!!!!" the mohawk guy screams in agony, unable to move from the ground.

While he did handle that mohawk guy easily, two on one still isn't fair.

Gripping the scabbard of your sword, you detach it from your belt as you try and catch up with the bald man before he can hit his target with that wooden plank.

Fortunately, you're MUCH faster than he is.

Catching up easily, you rush past the bald man, position your scabbard -just so-, and...

WHAM

Pivoting on one heel, you spin, swinging the edge of your scabbard right into the man's stomach. Completely winded, the man stumbles back in a daze...

..and then you punch him right in the face, watching as he crumples onto the ground, unconscious.

"Thanks, bro..." the boy says, looking over at you. "...oh shit, you're that guy from before!"
"Oh, it is!" the girl says, waving. "Hello again!"

>>
>>28412131
But I just got out of bed a couple hours ago.
>>
>>28412123
Apparently most people don't realize that the most likely result of doing that would be to make things incredibly awkward between the pair and possibly ruin their relationship irrevocably.

Besides, Reinhold giving relationship advice is fucking laughable.

I can confirm that at least one of those was facetious. Which is why I didn't link it at archelon's post•
>>
>>28412131
Seriously? How long have you been here? A guy describing his ideal of a feminine dick weirds you out still?
>>
>>28412105
wild guess:
the familiars and their masters share a strong bond, and some people didn't really appreciate 'maidens' having a cute/chibi tentacle monster as a pet

What

Are you saying you don't groom your foreskin?
>>
>>28412246
>has never seen a poorly groomed foreskin
>>
>>28412258
Well. *squidems
>>
The process involved drawing a magic circle and casting a spell that summons a nonhuman creature with the same affinity and less magical energy than the caster, then mentally binding said creature to them for life.

It fell off because dragons really didn't appreciate the occasional incident where a newborn baby would get whisked off to God-knows-where and used a servant.

ha!

Enough with the dick talk, seriously.
>>
>>28412293
So it's like reverse changelings?
>>
>>28412293
New thread time? It's 3 from the bottom, at this point.
>>
>>28412293
We should summon as many nonhuman creatures as possible until we get a dragon baby and then decapitate it.

>>>/soc/
>>
>>28412293
Well it just so happens I don't like dragons.

Someone needs to archive soon, at least.

So if Reinhold was to summon one, theoretically, it'd have to have a metal affinity?

What creature even has a metal affinity? Or which affinities do creatures have in general? I'm guessing all dragons have affinities but that's obvious.

These threads make me wish I could batch report.

At least the waifu talk has something to do with the quest. Talking about dicks doesn't.

Stupid isnt a bannable offense, sadly.

Not the sort archelon participates in and encourages. Whether or not Iori a shit is totally irrelevant to anything.
>>
>>28412388
What if we talked about Reinhold's dick?
Is it circumcised?
How common is circumcision in this setting?
How common is female circumcision?
>>
>>28412407
I actually legitimately would like the answers to these questions.
>>
>>28412364
>calling archelon a faggot

Get out, seriously.
>>
>>28412406
An anon brought Iori up, archelon never even said anything about her.
>>
I don't know how I'm going to cope with you next thread, PGQ. I'm losing my ferrets this Friday. What will I snuggle with? Who will I cuddle to distract myself from penises, traps, and waifus?
>>
>>28412406
Why are you arguing? Is arch not allowed to participate in waifu talk. And not allowed to express his dislike for people talking about dicks.
>>
>>28412427
He's said she's his waifu in past threads. Are you new to this quest or do you just skim, son?
>>
>>28412438
Do any of your ferrets have dicks
>>
>>28412438
>Who will I cuddle to distract myself from penises, traps, and waifus?
Cuddle with the penis of your trap waifu
>>
>>28412444
New thread. Please try not to shit it up.
>>
>>28412454
He talked about Idolm@ster on his twitter and someone brought it up so he said he was a fan and that he liked Iori and that was it. He didn't make several posts about it. Like some anons did about dicks.

YES! YES!
>>
>>28412468
So in other words, this thread is about dicks for the remainder of its lifespan?
>>
>>28412478
i dont like the dick talk but you are just talking out of your ass. been here since the first thread and we talked about alot of things not directly related to quest with archelon many a times, and idolmaster was quite often the topic of these.
just shut up. you make the dick talkers seem right.
>>
>>28412525
So, how do you groom your foreskin? I just usually iron mine before applying a bit of makeup.
