Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You have collected and reforged each Shard of your past self. Three of the four keys to Hecate's prison are in your possession; you are certain as to the location of the last. The Black Lady has joined the alliance between the Great Forest, Felnoir, and Archon. More importantly, you've convinced both you allies in Haven and the Archonians that this is a good thing.

Soon, your collected followers will meet in Arland, ready to shock the world with a force comprised of outsiders and rulers joined together against the demon lords summoned by Kan-Abar.

It's halfway through winter. Auriel has predicted that Kan-Abar won't move until the snow thaws and spring arrives, but rather consolidate control over their newly captured territories. So far, that prediction has held true.

A banquet was held in the Black Lady's honor by Yi Fang, introducing her to the Archon nobility and cementing Abigail as a councilor and major political force. Once again, he's turned the unexpected into a powerful advantage.

Things seem to be aligning themselves as you've planned for some time. However, one last thing weighs on your mind: City 002, the source of the highly aggressive constructs that have repeatedly attacked you.

You've gone back to where they last emerged and are following the path they dug there. But in your way is a nest of vicious, gruesome creatures: the vog...

You bring forward the power to null out chaotic energy. In a flash, a light like darkness fills the room, expanding from your position and enveloping the central chamber, and the outer three, as well.

But the spirit mesh that binds the vog together resists your power. It hums brighter, affirming itself in the face of your denial. There's too many of them in one place!

Their eyes flicker open as one, all locked on you.

<Resolve!>

Your shard answers your call. In an instant, the power of your Nightblaze redoubles. Lose rocks shake with the force, then vaporize, little bits of matter that are no match for the Order you impose upon them.

The connection between the vog pulses, flickers, and dies. The hard, vicious gazes go blank. You see drool leaking out the mouth of the one closest to you. They're totally vulnerable!

What do you do?

>Consume as many as possible.
>Eating will slow you down. Use Darkness Within; kill as many as you can.
>use another spell to futher incapacitate them

You know how that adamantium vein channeled our deep focus? What if that's one of the methods the robos used to locate various magical sources of power.

>mana: 27/58

You spin up a chewing orb of magic within your maw and launch yourself forward, scooping up and consuming the unconscious vog whole. With their link to one another disabled by your magic, it's quick and brutal work.

>you've gained 8 EXP
>you've gained 4 mana (31/58)

In just a few moments, you've consumed 20 of the Vog in the main chamber. The connection between them flickers once, and then begins to pulse rapidly. They stir on the ground, scrambling to stand upright.

Meanwhile, the Vog in the other chambers have...split up. One group of ten is headed toward the main room in which you occupy; the other group of ten is headed away, seemingly burrowing through the earth in a random direction as fast as a horse can gallop.

What do you do?

How much Mana does that cost again? We're at like half now, and the Vog might be gathering reinforcements.
>>
You gather your mana together in Spirit, and unleash it in a shockwave of pure Terror.

>mana: 17/58

But your magic can't quiet destabilize the currents running between the brutes. As you push your power onto them, they fight back, crawling toward one another, closing the distance that their connections have to cross. Before you can manage to overpower them, the ten vog from the side chamber make it to the main cavern. The extra boost pushes them over the edge.

The connection between 40 vog at once is too great. Your magic slips and rolls over them, dissipating against the cavern.

They form into two groups of 20, as coordinated as clockwork soldiers. A thick band of Spirit connects the two groups, while smaller strings connect individuals to each other. They form a tight-knit pack.

And then they move. One group of twenty stays in back, preparing a spell. The other group marches forward, and then splits again, into two groups of ten, flanking you come either side.

The ten retreating Vog are nearly out of your range to sense...

What do you do?

You wait. And wait. The Vog on either side close in. You can feel earth magic building below you.

And then, at the last moment, you blink! A dozen stalagmites grow from the ground like spears - but they pierce only the air where you used to be standing. The two groups closing in pause, momentarily baffled.

And you land on top of the vog focusing on magic, your Gaping Maw already twisting. You sheer off half the bodies of two of them before they can react, and then dark between them, consuming one after another. Panicking, they scatter, somewhat sacrificing coordination to try and save as many bodies as they can.

>mana: 13/58
>regen: 14/58

You manage to consume ten Vog in the confusion! That leaves about 30 in the cave.

>you've gained 4 exp (14 total)
>you've gained 3 mana (17/58)

The other two groups you left behind reform into a block of twenty - and this time, they're the casters! The immediately begin to cast another spell. Meanwhile, the group you blinked into is still in confusion.

And then you feel a rumble of Spirit course through the earth. It comes from the direction the other vog went.

It's strong.

You again sent a Nightblaze shuddering through the room. The earthen walls and slick stone invert in color; for a moment, dark is light, and light is dark. And then the magic connecting the Vog comes crashing down once more. Connections severed, they slump into the dirt, useless.

For a moment, your gaping maw stutters - you slip and fumble with the magic. But with your enemies down for the count, at the moment, you got away without consequence.

>mana: 3/58
>regen: 4/58

You leap atop the Vog, shredding and scooping them into your body, absorbing their life force as rapidly as you can.

You manage to consume 15 vog.

>you've gained 5 experience (19 total)
>you've gained 2 mana (6/58)

14 Vog remain. The connection between them attempts to regenerate itself again, pulsing like a magic heartbeat - but it's much more sluggish, this time. You have a moment before they gather themselves.

And then you feel it. A huge presence of spirit enters your sensory field. It's a roiling, tangled mass, centered around a core of spirit that shines like a sun. You've rarely felt such concentrated power. It's headed right toward you, but you still have a little time...

What do you do?

>continue to consume the Vog before you
>focus on killing all the Vog; make sure they're dead
>retreat back down the tunnel and regroup with Shade

The main reason is that the sleeping vog only noticed us when we attacked, because they were sleeping an unawares of us while we were stealthing. While the incoming group is aware of a threat and looking for a fight.

It's less the qualitative assessment of power and more of how one was a sneak attack on sleeping enemies and the other is a gigantic magical force looking for an enemy to smash. And that anon from before wanted to "take a look" at it.

You barely dodge out of the way as a rolling ball of Spirit power blasts through rock and stone and into the chamber. You hit the deck, shielding yourself from the debris, but you can't dodge everything.

>you've taken 3 damage (78/81)

The dust clears. A vog appears in the hole.

Only it's attached to another vog, hooked together by the claws on its hands and feet. And then another, and another, in an interconnected chain four vog thick and extending back into the hole. And they aren't still - they're crawling, moving, squirming around each other as if they're the muscle of a giant hand.

The vog-beast rolls its way out into the cavern, half stepping forward, half sliding along in a living conveyor made of creatures. Before you is a tangled mass of more vog than you can easily count. It's a construct seemingly made from vog as if they're bricks.

A heavy Spirit power coats the outside of the creature, projected from an inner core. You can't sense individual connections between the vog - it's all one giant pulsing monstrosity.

What do you do?

What do you want me to clarify? Here is the ability description:

Enslave - Target comes under your direct control, but with the loss of all initiative; you direct them like a summon. While controlling an enslaved target, you can use no other magic (any ability which requires mana). Only 1 target can be controlled in this manner at a time. People released from your control will remember what they have done while enslaved. (5 to 20 mana)
>>
How about running, why does no one consider running. We have absolutely no reason to be in this situation, and even less to fight this thing considering how low our mana is.

So after the Spirit Siphon attack, what should we do? Strats&Tacts?
>>
This enemy isn't like anything you've seen before. You've got to reach deeper into Spirit to counter this power. You channel the untapped energy you've gained from consuming your foes into the darkness of abilities lost long ago...

But your mana is gone. What can you do?

The pulsing Spirit around the vog construct provides an answer. If you don't have any mana, you'll simply take it.

You reach out tendrils of spirit. They're like the tendrils of shadow you use to dissolve what you eat, only ethereal - meant for mana, not the mundane. They sink into the outside of the vog's shielding and begin to drain mana.

An ugly, disjointed roar of protest echoes from the monster - not its own, but a hundred combined shrieks of individual vog. Your ability is working!

Countering that power with your own is a difficult task. Your Siphon doesn't take everything, but it does some damage.

>you've gained 20 mana (20/58)

Meanwhile, the construct casts its own spell. Five orbs of spirit shoot toward you! It follows behind, lumbering and rolling forward in an awkward but oddly balanced gait.

What do you do?

>dodge the magic
>nightblaze the magic; enter melee with the beast

To clarify; even though it's already fired the orbs at us, we've had trouble with intelligent foes having homing spirit attacks, so that's what the multishade is for.

No it did not; supercrits count only in the first three rolls, regardless of the number of actions. Sorry.

You use Fast Blink.

>mana: 15/58

The orbs of spirit swirl toward your position. You Blink away - and they follow you, tracked onto your person! In a flash, you blink around the cave, behind rocks, between stalagmites.

The orbs swivel and stop and spin, trying to keep track of your location. Three of them crash into the ground, throwing up harmless clouds of dirt. Another strikes and pulverizes a boulder. The last one, however, slams into a stalagmite, one of the biggest in the room. The hunk of rock breaks, falls, and slams into on of the vog-beast's arms, crushing a dozen of the creatures in a single blow. A hundred shrieks scrape your ears.

The confusion keeps the vog busy. It keeps turning, spinning, attempting to track your position. Its senses are keen, but the magic being thrown every which way throws it off, and its eyesight is rendered useless as dust fills the room from the explosions.

And then you're behind it, a Siphon extended, ready to suck all the magic you can. You down it like a thirsty man drinks water.

>mana: 0/58

>you've gained 30 mana (30/58)
>regen: 31/58

The heavy pulse of magic shielding the vog is significantly weakened. Where once there was a solid form of spirit, you can feel lines and connections - a thick band extending from the center, and out to each limb like branches, then splitting off into individuals.

It whirls on a dime - in fact, it doesn't even have to turn around; its body simply contorts and rolls back the other way. It closes the gap in an instant, and you're forced to cut your siphon.

What do you do?

>dodge and counter
>adamantize before it strikes you
>use a magic attack
>some other strategy
>>
>>28428810
Its so big we can't miss. Wait for it to close and CONEMIND IT.

>>
>>28428810
>adamantize before it strikes you

>>
>>28428838
>>28428834
We can adamantize, cast cone of destruction when it closes in to attack us, and then respond with DW right after.
>>
>>28428810
Nightblaze it and dodge.
>>
>>28428810

Dodge + Cone of Destruction.
>>
>>28428852
I would second but with a nightblaze after the cone of destruction leaves them vulnerable, so the DW doesn't destroy the XP.
>>

I like you. Lets do it.

Actually yeah, that would get us the XP accessible for CONSUME, so I'll second that instead of my original suggestion.
>>
>>28428903
>>28428871
wouldn't cone destroy them anyway?
>>
>>28428810
Terror+420nightblaze.
It stuns them and disables them
>>
>>28428913
I think they were saying DW would be overkill after CoD.
>>
>>28428810
dodge then nightblaze so we can consume them all
>>
>>28428913
Some of them, yeah. But that's kinda the point, to disrupt their form and open that opportunity for nightblaze.

Some people are still forgetting that even though it's spirit shield is down it's still a mass of vog greater than the ones we failed to nightblaze before. It still has the strength to resist that direct attack with the hivemind.
>>
>>28428925
well they were talking about getting extra XP so would dodge+nightblaze or terror+nightblaze work better.
>>
>>28428955
it was terror they resisted if my memory is right.
>>
Vote 1:

Running on the fumes of your fast blink, you try to dodge - but the contorting arm of the Vog sweeps you up and sends you flying. The impact hurts, but you manage to blink back to another location before you run into anything hard.

>you've taken 5 damage (73/81)

You use nightblaze - and the world inverts in color. Shadow magic eats away at the Spirit holding the vog together.

And to your surprise, a breakthrough - the left half of the body is severed from the core! The vog collapse away, still hooked together, but cut off from the main body that is now struggling for balance.

And then you see the center of the thing. A squirming, slimy thing - vaguely reminiscent of a vog, but as if its flesh was turned into brain matter. The repulsive sight makes you blanch in disgust.

But now's not the time - you've got to damage it before it puts itself back together!

And then something pulses at the edge of your senses. Earth. Not the spirit-earth of the vog, but a pure, cool earth. Smooth like metal. Taking your eyes off your enemy for just a moment, you glance over toward the tunnel at the other end of the nest.

There's a small metal box, square and compact. As you watch, it retreats back from where it came, rolling along on small wheels. Printed on its casing are bold black numbers:

-001-

A dozen shrieks drag your attention back to your foe. You've got to act, and fast!

Sooo, how do we get that vog in our belly?

Grab onto it/rip it out and then stuff it into our pocket?

Use severing shadow magic on the vog its connected to and then grab and run with our treat?

So many possibilities...
>>
>>28429395
straight up consume the brain while its vulnerable.
or
Nightblaze the brian
>>
>>28429419
>why not both.jpg
>>
>>28429419
That's a really good idea. Instead of using nightblaze on the creature generally, we apply it specifically to the brain.

Save that one for next time.
