You’re Rodger Grant, a man living through the end of the world. Four days ago, billions of people dropped dead in an instant. Strange natural disasters shake the world. Many of the people left alive have become “Marked” (including your ex-wife) and are actively trying to kill anyone who isn’t.

Of course, all of this has fallen to the wayside in the last few moments, as you’ve happened upon an occupied house. Inside this house, an unseen man looks down the barrel of gun and threatens your life.

“Stay back or I swear to God I’ll shoot you both. And the dog,” the man calls from his house.

You can’t help but to feel rather powerless at the moment. The Ruger .22 is slung over your shoulder and your pistol sits uncomfortably in your jeans pocket, but you might as well be unarmed. Even if you got a gun out, he'd kill you before you could get a shot off. You’re at the mercy of this man. There’s no cover to be had, nowhere to run. No car to duck behind or fence to cover your retreat. You stand in a damp lawn with Mariah by your side and Lucky at your feet.

The dog seems to be aware that something isn’t right and stands at attention, no more sure of where the danger lurks than you are. Your eyes strain to pick out a figure lurking in one of the windows, but in the bright orange light of sunset the windows act like mirrors, revealing only the scene of you and Mariah standing terrified in the front yard.

“Easy, easy!” You call out, hands raised, “We don’t need to jump straight to shooting people, do we?”
“You take another step on my property and that’s exactly what I’ll do,” the voice answers.
“We don’t want to hurt you. We aren’t marked,” you show him the backs of your hands and gesture for Mariah to do the same.
“We won’t hurt you,” she says.
“How long have you been in there watching us?” You ask, keeping your hands in plain view.
“I’ve seen you pick these houses clean all day. Not mine. You try that at my place and I swear to God almighty I’ll put you both in the ground.” There’s anger in this man’s voice, a kind of bitterness that makes you think he might have wanted to loot those houses.

You weigh your options for a moment. Mariah looks to you with wide eyes.

You give her a reassuring look. Maybe this guy could work with you. He’s armed. And obviously not afraid to fight. He knows you’ve got plenty of supplies. This could work.

“Hey, man. I’m Rodger, this is Mari—“ you start
“I don’t give a fuck what your names are! Get away from my house!” he screams over you.

You start back away, accepting that this guy is going to stay in his house until someone burns it down around him, when you catch a glimmer of movement on your right. Mariah has seen it, too.

A group.

There are four of them, one has a rifle, but it’s hard to tell if any of the others are armed. They stand still, staring right back at you and Mariah. The man in the house shouts something, but the words fall away.

Not much cover around. You guys are kind of between a rock and a hard place here.
>>
You consider shouldering the Ruger, but the man in the house might take that the wrong way.
You consider running for cover, but the group might take that as positioning for attack.
In the end you take a short breath and raise your hand.

The other group doesn’t do much at first. They’re far enough away that you can’t make out any faces, but you see them turn and talk to each other for a moment. Then, the one with the rifle raises his hand.

“What the fuck are you doing?!” shouts the man in the house.

The group starts to approach. You get a better look at them as they get closer. Three men, one woman. The man with the rifle seems well dressed and has a dark complexion. The woman with him has dark hair thrown into a messy ponytail. The other two men trail behind them. They’re both black: one is overweight; the other, lanky.

You want them to understand the situation they are about to walk in to. If only there was a universal symbol for ‘there’s a guy with a gun pointed at us right now.’

As they approach the man with the rifle points it towards you.

“Let’s see your hands,” he says with a polite tone before a voice calls out from the house:

“Now who the FUCK are these people?!”

Slowly, you and Mariah extend your hands, palm down. The rifleman seems distracted with the man in the house, leading his female sidekick to say to him: “They’re good, Xander.”

“Did we interrupt somethin’?” the larger black man asks.

“Slight neighborhood issue,” you reply.

“All of you! Back away – SLOWLY! Take them back to your house. Now!” The voice calls from the house.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Why don’t you show yourself and let’s talk this—“ Xander takes a step forward as he speaks.

“Why don’t you shut the fuck up and listen to what I’m telling you before you get a hole in your head!” The voice calls out.

Xander takes a step back. You see the woman scowl at the voice’s threat.

>Argue with the man in the house. You can’t just take strangers into your home.

“Hey, Xander, is it? Listen, this guy is about one second from killing all of us. Come back with us, we’ve got plenty of food and water,” you explain.
Xander’s expressions tells you he doesn’t like being ordered to some stranger’s house at gunpoint, but he relents and follows you back to the house.

Lucky trots into the kitchen as soon as you open the door, making a mad dash to the empty food bowl on the floor. The rest of the group huddles into the living room, eyeing you and Mariah suspiciously. Xander keeps his rifle pointed at the floor, but never takes both hands from it.

Well, this thing seems to have run it's course, actually.

Thanks for playing dude, but I think I'm throwing in the towel. I've got to call it quits early tonight, and this thing just isn't keeping steam.

I'm sure its due to lackluster story telling and sporadic scheduling, which is my fault. It's my first time doing anything like this, so my apologies if it kind of puttered out after a strong start.

Thanks to all the guys who played and supported this when it started.

I'll be on for just a short time if you've got any questions about where things were headed or anything.

Sorry to cut out on ya.
>>
>>28516064
Its alright man.

The writing itself was of good quality and fairly fast. The real problem was the update schedule and the hiatus.

You actually had a good story here, too bad its dead.
>>
>>28516064
I honestly thought this quest was dead for a while. The story telling's fine, hope you pick it up again later.
>>
>>28516104
Meh, maybe.

I'll probably spend some more time playing them, see where I went wrong.

Just lack of awareness, or maybe the story wasn't inviting to newcomers. I dunno.

I'll probably post the details here and archive it in case anyone who got excited about the first one wants to know what was happening in the world.

Thanks for the encouragement, dudes.

I'll post this in case anyone is interested or finds this in the archives or something.

-The Rapture killed billions of people. Anyone that believed in a God and was moderately good natured went to heaven, regardless of religion

-The rain was acidic and would lead to the destruction of crops worldwide, but no flood.

-There was no saving Brandie. Anyone turned becomes completely convinced that any unmarked people are the enemy. There is no cure. No going back.

-All of the Major characters (There were going to be seven) were loosely based on the seven deadly sins.
Rodger is Wrath, He has anger issues and is generally violent.
Mariah was pride - always looked out for herself first.
Xander was greed.
Christina was envy.
Willie was gluttony (pill addict).
There was going to be an old Catholic priest that had molested boys (lust) and some lazy girl (sloth).

-Eventually demons were going to show up. They would make you hallucinate, mess up your head. One would infiltrate your group and try to turn you all against each other by planting seeds of dissent in the group.

That's all I had. Thanks for playing everyone

So, no light of hope in all of this?
>>
>>28516356
I didn't know how it was going to end. I planned for a time jump at some point. Maybe get to the end of the 7 year Tribulation and fight with God's Army
