You find Miho almost by accident- she's wandering along through the crowds along with Yukari, who is talking excitedly as she points out things from each stall- a 47mm towed anti-tank gun, a collection of Russian large-caliber artillery shells, early Light Armored Vehical- and Mako, who seems to drag behind the other two, obviously desperate for a nap.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and, glancing around you to make sure you haven't been followed, you fall in step beside the girls, nodding over at Miho. "So, just got done talking with Kay." You mention, head still on a swivel. "Seems nice."

"She totally is!" Yukari says happily. "I met her on my trip to Saunders! She's super nice!" She bites her lip a few seconds later. "I hope she's not bad at me..." She says quietly.

Miho smiles at her. "Kay? Never- Kay never holds a grudge!" She reaches over and pats Yukari on the back. "She probably won't even remember you!"

There is one thing you do need to mention, and there isn't really an easy way to broach the subject. "So, your sister thinks I'm a tourist." You say evenly, as if it was nothing. "...Though that blond-haired girl is a bit..." You search for the correct word. "Abrasive." After its out, you glance over at Miho- her face is a perfectly calm pond of emotion.

"Erika..." She says quietly before nodding. "Yes, Erika isn't a very nice person." She looks over at you before glancing around the crowd. "Where were they?" She seems to instinctively grab your hand and squeezes hard enough for it to stop being entirely enjoyable.

You aren't getting your hand away from her, so you put on your best soothing voice. "Over by the Funnel Cake stand..." You say, wincing a bit as she squeezes while looking over there.

"We need to go." Miho says. "Somewhere. Right now." Despite her calm demeaner, her eyes betray desperation, glancing back and forth across the crowd like a trapped animal.

The first time I took it out, I got plonked in the lower frontal glacis plate while on a hill and I had to watch the poor thing slide down the hill sideways in a rather pathetic manner because it killed my engine.

Why is the hitbox for the engine in the lower frontal glacis?
>>
>>28611155
Long 75 if you want to snipe, 105 if you want to brawl. 75 is better all-around, but the 105 reaps delicious KV-1 tears.

Obama here.

Now while I will agree that some of the things he posted were upsetting, and maybe even offensive, it's um... important to remember that we all need to act like adults.

Stonewalling and reporting him isn't going to solve any of your problems. We should treat this as a teaching moment, where uh... the two of you can come together and talk these things over so that you can come to understand his anger and he can understand why your position is the well obviously superior one. After which there will uh... be no reason to continue these childish antics of his.

Now that you think about it, did all German tanks in service have frontal transmission in that general location?

It is.

My Sherman could get engine damage sometimes in that location.
>>

It is, but long-range shots tend to ricochet off the damned curved casing.

Short-range either kills the sherman or doesn't penetrate, so moot.

You smile. Calming Energy, Russells. Calming Energy. "Miho. Calm down..." You say, giving Yukari a covert look- she immediately begins guiding Miho out of the middle of the crowd and into a space between two tented stalls. Miho still has a vice grip on your hands and she still looks about a ten seconds away from hyperventilating, but at least you've got a bit of privacy here.

"Do you need a bag?" Mako volunteers, taking a seat on the ground now that she's no longer forced into being mobile. "You should sit down."

Miho nods, dropping to the ground and dragging you with her. Despite being fairly well hidden now, her eyes are still glued to the crowd. "Maho is here. Erika is here." Miho says, more calmly than he face reveals. "She's here." You haven't seen Miho like this before- even when Anzu originally conscripted her it had been a passive, almost shock-like resignation. She's in completely fight-or-flight mode now.

You extricate your hand from hers so you can put your arm around her shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry- nobody's going to find us here if they aren't looking..." You say, looking around to make sure of it as you say it. "It's just your sister- she seemed really friendly!" You say hoping this will calm her down.

Miho buries her face in her knees. "You don't understand..." She starts, tears finally managing to sneak their way past her eyes.

Well from my experiences, it lacks armour, but that is to be expected of a light tank. It has a pretty good fire rate with the 6-pounder. I played it mostly as a support tank, and I did alright with it.

Note: It doesn't have scout MM.

"Miho..." You start, before looking over at Mako and Yukari for some kind of help- Mako seems to be asleep and Yukari is as confused as you. You need to distract Miho, get her mind off whatever crisis she thinks she's in long enough to get her somewhere else. You need something dramatic. You need something hard hitting.

You need something supremely, irresponsibly stupid.

You look up momentarily, contemplating why this is even a plan, then, with your arm still around her shoulders, you reach over with your other arm, take hold of her chin and in a swift motion, plant a kiss on her lips. Your eyes snap open after a moment to see shock in her eyes.

You draw back from your first real kiss. With a girl.

Oh God. That just happened. You draw back as swiftly as you moved in. "Oh, jeez. I-I'm sorry Miho I just..." You feel every inch of skin above the collar of your shirt suddenly ignite as the weather seems to suddenly get about twenty degrees warmer. "You were freaking out and I though-"

"Finally." Mako says, evidently aware enough to guess what had happened while Yukari looks like a kid who's gotten kittens for Christmas.

You bite your lip- Miho still hasn't said anything, she's just looking right into your eyes. You continue yammering, making less and less sense- evidently that kiss has transferred whatever panic and terror Miho had been feeling right into you.

>RUN AWAY.

Mr. Speer, while he was a little extreme, he does have a point of the lack of resources and there beign a lack of targets. just point east and shoot, for all the good it would do. How? How does this help your family? Does your fleeing put them a single step further away from Stalin's hordes? Does it keep your home from being bombed or looted? Whether you die or run, your children grow up without a father. But if you run, they must grow up with the knowledge that their papa was a coward who fled his home when the specter of death loomed over him.

If you still think you must flee, then go. I pray that what meager fuel you hold lasts, and that you do not die a foolish death to the American pilots.

He started out in the Condor legion, mechanic for battle of Britain, pressed into piloting in the east, disillusionment follows. not sure whether or not to have him get killed/fail. Family gets to embassy, wife and infant daughter manage to escape to Japan, where they become mildly well-off due to pre-war connections. daughter grows up temperamental, but surrounded by children of the elite, including one Maho Nishizumi. It wasn't until Kursk that he really began to fear for his home, realizing that the Soviets had little regard for their own lives, and by extension, even less regard for their enemies. His family manages to flee to Berlin, and manages to escape to the British sector before the wall is built.)
>>
Now would be an excellent time to panic, start hyperventalating and assuming the worst of your future, but you'll have time for that later. "Yukari, Miho needs somewhere private to wait this out." You say, collecting yourself and attempting to keep the panic and terror inside from overflowing outside. You catch Miho's eyes again- she's still staring right into you.

You gulp a bit.

"What about the I-Go?" Yukari offers. "We aren't far- and it'd be quiet and private." You sigh and let yourself relax just a bit- Yukari to the rescue. "If we're quick, nobody will even see us!"

Miho finally looks away from you, nodding to Yukari. "O-okay." She says, still seeming a bit unsure of herself pulling herself- and you- to her feet. "I'm sorry- I'm acting childish." She says, trying smile for you guys. "Thank you for helping me, both of you."

It doesn't take long to get over to the Oorai exhibit- thankfully and probably expectedly, you don't see any sign of Miho's older sister or the angry, light-haired Erika.

Yuzuu is standing guard by the I-Go, ready to give information on the tank and Oorai's senshado program- As you help Miho up she tries to stop you. "What are you guys doing?"

"Family issues" you say bluntly as Miho climbs up onto the tank and slides into the commander's hatch. Yuuzu looks back and forth between you and Miho, unsure of what to do- she's probably been instructed not to let anyone in the tank.

Yukari comes up beside you. "We need the tank for a bit." She says, as you climb up yourself.

You turn around before you slide through the spacious commander's hatch yourself. "You won't even know we're here," you reassure her before disappearing into the tank. "Just don't let anyone in!" You say, poking your head out and smiling at her for good measure.

"I'm taking the chair." Mako says as she grabs the shaded chair Anzu had been lounging in earlier and sits down- Yukari maintains a guard outside.

As you close the hatch with a thunk you turn to Miho, who's composed herself back to what you hope is a normal level of freaking out.

You sit down in the gunner's seat across from Miho, who's almost instinctively taken the commander's chair. "You okay?" You ask quietly, leaning your head back against the side of the turret- not something you usually do, but it's been a long five minutes. You look back over at Miho, who nods at you silently. You nod back, closing your eyes.

"Thank you, Russells." Miho says after a minute or so of silence. "I-I'm sorry about how I was behaving. You must think I'm crazy." You don't respond- she wants to talk so you're going to let her talk. "I guess I owe you an explanation, though."

You shrug. "If you're comfortable with it." You say. "I've seen enough family oddity in my life."

Miho smiles a bit at this, but looks down at the floor. "It's not my sister..." She says slowly, not quite sure of herself even now. "My sister has always been there for me, even when I..." She stops for a second, "...even when I failed her." Miho reaches up and pushes her bangs back, covertly brushing away the beginnings of a tear.

"Erika then?" You ask- she seemed like the sort that'd give a girl like Miho a rough time, but Miho shakes her head.

"No- Erika is a..." She stops. "As I said, she is not a nice person, but she doesn't matter." Miho takes a deep breath. "It's just... If my sister is here, and Erika is here then..." She takes a breath. "...then my mother's here, too."

Mostly exterior details and stuff. Reference pics would be nice bonus.

In early 1941 the demand for air-cooled radial engines to power the rapidly increasing production of tanks and aircraft appeared likely to exceed the supply available. As a result, additional sources were sought for light tank engines with preference given to those engines already in production.
On June 6 1941, OCM16837 authorized the installation of 2 Cadillac automobile engines with Hydramatic transmissions and an automatic auxiliary transmission in a light tank M3. This combination provided 6 forward speeds and 1 reverse..
This action designated the M3 as the M3E2. It was subjected to a 2000 mile endurance test at the General Motors Proving Ground. Excellent results were obtained and the test vehicle was then transferred to Aberdeen. Although the M3E2 was ~2500 lb heaver than the M3A1, it had equivalent performance. In addition to the immediate availability of the standard automobile engine and transmissions, the other advantages of the new power train included better low temperature starting, quieter operation, and additional space in the fighting compartment because of the lower drive shaft tunnels. The Automatic transmission also reduced the driver's work load.

Here we go

The need for more armour in assault operations had been reflected in the Aberdeen proposal for a modified Sherman. The requirement for a special assault tank was established at a conference on 30 March 1942 between representatives of the Chief of Ordnance, Aberdeen Proving Ground, and the British Tank Mission. The latter indicated an urgent requirement for such a tank, but the US Armored Force had no interest at that time. It was agreed that each country would develop and manufacture two pilot assault tanks with the British based on the Mark VIII Cruiser and the US tank based on the M4.

After completion, one of each pilot would be interchanged and tested simultaneously in both countries. The Ordnance Committee issued detailed military characteristics for the US vehicle in May 1942, designating it the T14 assault tank.
Aberdeen Proving Ground was instructed to prepare preliminary layout drawings and to construct a wooden mock-up. At that time a British requirement was established for 8500 assault tanks.

the M4 was welded and had weakspots in the armor scheme where the welds joined, the A1 was cast and removed those weakspots, thats the only difference, one was welded hull, the other cast

In June, Aberdeen finished the preliminary drawings and the American Locomotive Company was assigned the task of completing the design and building the two pilot tanks. Both pilots used welded armor, but a design was also prepared for cast hull. The original concept specified the Ford GAZ V8 engine, but provided for its future replacement by the Ford V12 engine when it became available.
The standard M4 power train was used except for changes in the final drive gear ratio. It was increase from 2.84:1 to 3.57:1.
A leaf spring suspension design was considered but the availability of production facilities resulted in adoption of horizontal volute springs and 25.75 inch tracks from the M6 Heavy Tank. Three boogies were used unlike Aberdeen's earlier proposal, all of the wheels were 18 inches in diameter.
The suspension was protected by a 0.5 inch armor skirt which combined with the 2 inch lower side armor to give protection equivalent to 3 inch plate in this area. The upper sides of the hull were 2 inches thick at 30 degrees from vertical.

The T14 was armed with the same 75mm gun M3 in the M34A1 mount on the M4, however Aberdeen was instructed in July to prepare layout drawings for the installation of the 105mm howitzer. Future use of the 76 or 90mm was also proposed.

The inside diameter of the turret ring was 69 inches, identical to the Sherman. In addition to the gunner's coaxial .30 cal, another machine gun was fitted on the commander's turret hatch ring for antiaircraft protection.
The bow gun mount was designed to carry a .50 cal machine gun, but an adapter was fitter to permit the later substitution of a .30 cal weapon. Unlike the Sherman, the bow gun was equipped with a coaxial direct sight telescope.

Pilot 1 was delivered to Aberdeen in July followed a month later by Pilot 2. The tanks weighed `47 tons and achieved a maximum speed of about 24 miles/hour/ The tests at Aberdeen revealed the need for numerous modifications. Maintenance was difficult because of the inaccessibility of various components. The tracks were easily thrown and difficult to adjust especially with the skirts. The mobility was considered unsatisfactory and Aberdeen recommended that no further consideration be given to the T14.

The first pilot was shipped to Fort Knox in November 1943 then to Bovington.

The Armored Force never wanted the T14 and the Army Supply Program of 1 September 1942 made no provision for its production.
The Chief of Ordnance was directed to cancel arrangements with the General American Transportation Company to build T14s at a rate of 250 per moth. At the time, it was decided to continue experimental work on the pilot tanks, but OCM 26038 of 14 December 1944 recommended complete cancellation of the T14 Project

Isn't it sad, T14-chan?
>>
>>28615116
Unfortunately I can't seem to find the stat sheet of the T14 unlike the other tanks.

>>28615132
By the time the T14 was ready the British already had the Churchill to fill the spot of Infantry support and Assault tank.

Sad indeed, but I think they decided the Sherman Jumbo was a better route in 1943 or so and later moved on to the Pershing's design in 44.

The difficulty in maintenance may also have played a role in it not getting accepted. Shermans were more robust than T-34's and pretty easy to repair/maintain in the field, and the T14 seemed to lack those qualities.
>>
>>28615116
Should fix this. The 2 remaining Prototypes were split and sent to Bovington tank museum and Fort Knox

I thought the m4 was the cast version, and the welded ones were stringer/better/later versions? (ex the E8)

We better get angry at the explanation.

And then i expect ALL YOU FUCKERS TO VOTE FOR KNIFE HANDS
>>
>>28615854
So it was the A3's when they went back to welded armor.
>>
>>28616598
Not... quite. All versions of M4's were produced more or less at the same time. The main reason (from my knowledge) that the M4A1 was cast, was that they had a lack of factories capable of the weldings needed to produce the tanks. By making some M4's with a cast hull instead (and calling it the M4A1), they could get more factories producing tanks. Do note that all the other versions of Shermans were welded. The main difference between models was what engine they mounted.

Clearly the only way to get Miho to stop freaking out, is to simply make out furiously in the tank
>>
>>28618597

No no no, we reassure her that we've got her back if we run into her mother; no matter what. We can only hide from our problems for so long before they become unavoidable. Isn't it better to live in the world than to hide from it.

Then we take our own advice, as we kinda let that cat out of bag by kissing her in front of the others, in that we won't just support her before her family as a friend and subordinate, but as *dramatic two heartbeats* her boyfriend.

Then we kiss her again, and hopefully that goes somewhere long enough for someone to flip open one of the windows from the outside.

And it's Shiho, curious to inspect one of the Tanks of the school team her daughter commands.

Deer in headlights moment.

Then we can panic

Or you know it had less to do with 'lights every time' and more to do with 'as much burning as the flamethrower tank with a similar name.'

Though getting shot in the ammunition generally doesn't lead to fire so much as explosion.
