"I am not a prostitute!" you say, much louder than you intended.

"A fact we are all well aware of," Novena replies with mock solemnity. "But he isn't, so you can kind of see how this works out for us."

"What Novena's tying to say," Caleb cuts in, "is that we just need somebody to make contact and confirm our suspicions. Nothing more."

"Exactly! Go in, lay on the charm, record him perving out on you, then just say you need to go freshen up or something."

"I just don't understand why I always end up having to do these things," you grumble.

"Well I would except somebody messed up my pretty face. Not to mention uh, hello?" She her waggles her floppy brown and black ears suggestively.

It's only been days since your fight with Novena but she already seems to be pretending like it was nothing. You're not sure whether you find the thought comforting or disturbing, but for the time being you put it out of your mind and focus on the task at hand. That task is the honourable gentleman from Illinois, Senator Robert Dufrense. According to Caleb Dufrense is one of the major backers of the Genetic Safety and Regulation Act, so securing his support would deal a hard blow to the legislation. unfortunately it won't be that easy. The problem is that Dufrense is a dyed in the wool conservative, extremely unsympathetic to clade rights. In fact according to your sources the only things he seems to care for at all is god, guns, country, and... whores.

Probably wouldn't trust them to get it done. For example, they could be anti-Clade and decide to leak the whole thing to the media instead, which would be Very Bad. And controlling for that would take time, and not be 100%.
>>
>>28715874
>>28715901
>>28716018
You can already tell this is going to happen, one way or another.

"Couldn't we just hire an actual hooker to do this?"

"No good," Caleb shakes his head. "Too unreliable, too susceptible to pressure. "Besides this is already putting us in a very gray area. I don't want anything that could compromise us."

"Fine, but you guys owe me for this."

Novena hops up and slings an arm around you, clearly enjoying this just a bit too much. "Don't worry kiddo I'll be there watching you the whole time in case he gets out of hand." She leans in conspiratorially. "Besides, I hear Dufrense likes the brown ones."

"Eyes?" you ask hopefully.

Novena simply smiles.

>Go get dressed.

Internet still a shit, if I vanish for a bit that's why. Also it looks like QTG just died as I was advertising. Suffering. ;_;

You don't really have anything for this type of... work. Frankly your wardrobe consists mostly of hoodies, jeans, sweaters, and whatever else you feel comfortable reading in. Novena drives you downtown and steers you into the first boutique store she spots.

"This one's on Gibbs and our generous backers, so go nuts."

"Wh- what should I get?" you ask hesitantly.

"Hell if I know, just make sure it's something Dufrense will like. Honestly I don't think it'll matter too much to that old lecher either way."

You browse around, looking at the scandalously revealing clothing that seems to be in this (and every) year. Eventually your eyes fall on three offers. One is an elegant black evening gown, the second is a cocktail dress you imagine would be quite suitable for whoring, and the third is a pantsuit that only a politician could find attractive.

You equivocate over the two dresses for some time in the changing room. Dufrense may be a pervert, but he's also a senator. You run your hand over the sheer fabric of the dress. You've never worn anything like this before. Images of yourself in the revealing piece race through your mind, making you blush. But.... if you're going to play a part, you may as well play it well. Dufrense isn't going to a seedy club on the edge of town to meet beltway functionaries. If he wants a whore, well, you'll be a whore.

"Felicia, some time today?"

Novena's voice startles you from your thoughts. You quickly scooch into the dress and open the door for approval.

"How do I look?"

Novena's ears perk up and she stands speechless for a moment. "You... wow. I didn't think you had it in you. But no time for the whole catwalk affair, we're late. Anything you need to know before we do this?"

You hurry to keep up with Novena as she pays for the dress and hustles you into the car.

"Hey uh... before we do this, do you know anything about this guy? I mean you can't just send me in there with just whores."

"Sorry kid, whores is what I got from my people, so whores is what you get from me. It's surveillance, not magic. The guy is a senator, we couldn't get any closer than that without tipping him off."

"Yea but," you wheel around in front of her and stop. "Look at least can we have a signal in case things get out of hand?"

"Anybody ever tell you that you worry too much? It's going to give you lines." She sighs as you continue to stare at her. "Fine, if you say "emerald" I'll hear through the wire and come riding in to save the day. Happy?"

"Hardly, but it'll do."

You arrive at a club with a large Neon sign that reads, "The Smitten Kitten". It doesn't look like the kind of establishment that serves Senators, but then you imagine that's the whole point. Novena manages to wire you up beneath your shred of a dress, a feat that is almost as impressive as it is embarrassing.

"Good to go Felicia, it's time for your big debut. Knock him dead kid. But not literally. Seriously. I don't think I could clean that up."

You take a deep breath and step into the club. You spot Dufrense quickly, recognizing him from the photo Caleb provided. He's sitting alone at a table drinking.

Get a drink of your own, not that there should be any drinking. Nice cover. Afterwards, approach him.

Gotta be honest, not many of his interests really seem to mesh with whoring well. Could bond over our 'mutual' hate of Clades I guess? Would maybe make him less suspicious too...but could swing the other way and make us more suspicious if we fuck up.
>>
>>28717351
>Go to the bar.

Rule 1 of undercover work is to let the populace acclimatise to your presence before making any moves, otherwise you seem out of place.

Give it 20 minutes or so. If possible, make him come to us rather than the other way around.

Unsure of what to do, you walk up to the rail and flag down the bartender.

"Vodka, neat."

The bartender nods and quickly returns with the shot. You down it instinctively, cursing yourself after the fact for drinking your cover. You order a Long Island and sit at the bar taking in your surroundings.

The club isn't quite as much a dive as you first thought. It's definitely not upper class, but there's a varied crowd. The urban fashion set mix with business men and the type of plastically beautiful women who seem to be a permanent fixture at these places. In the corners you even spot a few clades mixing with rest of the patrons.

Having sat at the bar for some time without being approached you pick out a heavily inebriated salary man and chat him up. His name's Shawn. He has a girlfriend. He thinks you're pretty. You listen to his fumbling pick up lines for a few more minutes, making sure Dufrense sees you, before you thank him for his time and stand back up.

Dufrense is still alone, curiously. He hasn't so much as moved from his private table, and nobody has come to join him. You get a text on your phone from Novena.

"What are you doing?"

>Go over.
>Wait a bit longer.

>>
>>28717720
Don't go over immediately, give him a few loaded looks and try to draw his attention our way.

Once he's consistently following us with his eyes, then we can make our move. We have to play it coy and make him chase us.
>>
>>28717748
This. Rule 2 of undercover work is to make sure it doesn't look like you are taking outside prompts.

Well at least we have experience with fighting!
>>
>>28717720
Go over, but dont make it obvious that the text tipped you off.
>>
>>28717748
You reply to the text casually, letting Novena know you're just blending in. You sit at the bar for a few more minutes, waving off would be suitors and finishing your drink. Sufficiently convinced of your cover (and buoyed by several shots of liquid courage) you stand up and make your way over to the table.

"You look lonely sweetie, room for one more?"

Dufrense looks you up and down impassively. "Just grabbing a few drinks after work, rough day."

"Well maybe you can buy me one and tell me about it." You slide into the booth uninvited.

He gives you a hard, unpleasant stare. For a moment you're afraid Dufrense is going to leave, but the anger in his face softens back into boredom. He checks his watch before turning back to you.

"I suppose I wouldn't mind, for a few minutes. What'll you have?"

Well now you're in, how will you play this?
>Play dumb.
>Try to impress him.
>Be overtly political.
>Other?
>>
>>28717961
What'll you have as in alcohol? If so, go for something feminine and sugary, got to live up to the ideal and all that.

Be political (or at least pretend to be impressed by some of his work as a politician), but don't try to impress him. A random whore walking in, going to the one angry looking guy sitting along, then blowing his mind with deep political theory screams set up.
>>
>>28717961
>Keep it light, pretend you don't know who he is.

>>
>>28717961
DONT be overly political. He obviously comes to a place like this to forget about work and be anything BUT a politician.
>>
>>28717961

>>28718015
You give the question a moment, furrowing your brow in what is only partially mock stupidity at this point. God, how many shots are they putting in Long Islands these days?

"Appletini," you finally settle on.

Dufrense flags the waiter and orders your drink, along with a scotch for himself.

"So tell me Mr. Hard-Day, what do you do that's so depressing it's got you drinking alone?"

"I work in corporate finance. Working ledgers, making numbers behave. All that sort of thing." He takes a drink from his scotch before placing it on the table. "All very tedious, but sometimes my co-workers can make it particularly onerous. And what about you?"

"It's hard to describe my work." You lean over the table, letting your breasts strain against the tight dress. "But you might say I'm in hospitality."

Awareness flickers briefly on Dufrense's face before his usual placid mask replaces it.

"How interesting."

>>28718267
>Keep making small talk.
Butter him up a little bit more. Talk about the club perhaps? Since we've never really been here (as our current disguise at least), talk about moving here recently and how nice it was to find this place, ask if he's got experience with it, if they have any particularly good drinks, etc.
>>
>>28718321
Seems reasonable. I'm hoping that dragging it out a little bit will make it easier to get him to say something dumb.
>>
>>28718267

"I only just moved here actually," you continue. "It's my first time at this club and you looked like you know the place well. A whole table all to yourself and all. I figured you might be able to show me around."

"Me and the owner are old friends, went to high school together. He saves me a table when he can. I'm a bit too old for it all really, but I like the ambiance." He brings his drink up before grinning stupidly. "And the scenery."

You force your mouth into a rictus grin. "How sweet. You shouldn't think of it like that though. I've never cared for younger men myself. They're so.... inexperienced."

The server brings another scotch and freshens up your drink. You've been doing your damndest to nurse it but it's hard without looking like the world's first teatotalling hooker. You chat about fake jobs, movies, the weather. Pretty much everything and anything except the topic you're interested in. Suddenly Dufrense looks at his watch before standing abruptly and reaching for his coat.

"It's been lively, but I have somewhere to be. It was a pleasure meeting you miss..."

You barely have time to register the sudden change as Dufrense starts to exit the booth.

"No!" you say grabbing his arm. "I mean... you aren't just going to leave me here are you?" You push your cleavage up against him. "I'm sure your friend wouldn't mind waiting." You give him your most suggestive look.

Dufrense's face suddenly flashes anger, and then just as quickly, pity. "No, I'm afraid I've already stayed too long. Have a nice night though young lady. Maybe I'll see you here again."

Dufrense steps around you and moves for exit, leaving you alone and confused. What the hell was that? Did you screw something up? You were sure he was into you.

You watch, dumnfounded as Dufrense exits the club. You suddenly feel very aware of people's eyes on you. You did make a bit of a scene after all. Rather than blow what's left of the operation you decide to return to the bar and order another drink. You sit at the bar, looking so venomously unhappy that not even the drunkest and most persistent barflies try to talk to you. Sure, it might have been a set up, and he might be a senator, but where does he get off rejecting you! You're pretty damnit! You could get somebody way better than him!

Your affirmations are interrupted by a buzz on your phone.

"ALL CLEAR."

You make your way out to the car, slamming the door as you get in.

"The hell happened in there?" she says as soon as you're in. "One minute he was making moon eyes at you and the next he's suddenly lost interest?"

"I dunno! I whore'd it up, just like you said. Any frat boy would have been falling over himself to take me home. Maybe the old man isn't into girls."

Novena looks at you for a minute, cocking her head and squinting. "Are you drunk?"

"I was sitting alone at a bar for two hours. OF COURSE I'M DRUNK."

"Ugh, whatever. Let's just go home. We'll keep working on him. I know where his house is so I'll post somebody there to watch."

"That old man was definitely up to something shady, no way I'm going to give up on this yet. I'll definitely find out what he's up to. Right after I get some coffee.... and a shower I think."

Novena looks at you for a long time before speaking. "Every time Dufrense's done this he follows the same pattern. He comes to the club, he talks to the owner, he drinks, a cab with a girl in it is waiting for him when he gets out, and he goes home. We've never followed him onto his property but..... If we could catch him with one of those girls it would be a hundred times better than just hearing him admit to it."

"Is that legal?"

"Strictly speaking... no. But neither is denying people their civil rights." She turns to you and holds your hands. "Caleb, Cassie, they mean well but they aren't going to be able to stop this. We could though. I just need somebody to back me up. What do you say?"

"Dufrense's second house... or mansion really, is in the area. Huge property, no visitors. Not even the wife. Security is pretty much non-existent. Just a couple of groundskeepers. Dufrense isn't important enough for a detail. All I've got on me is a camera, but if we can hop the fence and let ourselves in we could get some nice photographs of his... guest. What do you think?"

"But it's ok to involve me in it? Why, because you don't care if I get caught? Or because you think you can just push me into going along with anything?"

The words hit her hard. She looks away from you. "I... respect you. I know we haven't always gotten along but you always try to do the right thing. I thought maybe you'd understand. We're sinking here. The rest of them don't see it but we aren't going to make it at this rate....." She shakes her head. "It was stupid, I'm sorry. Let's just go home."

I'm not going to do this on a whim, when there's still 2 months to go. If we're still stuck on him in a month, I'll consider it, okay?"
>>
>>28720747
This. Tell her that if she really thinks it can work, then she needs to put more planning into this than "hop the fence and hope for the best like some drunken fratboys pulling a panty raid". And that in the meantime, we should pursue other avenues of attack.

"Look, is this really the right time? I'm fully aware that if I get caught badly, you're all gonna have to basically deny any contact and be very unhelpful you know. At least let me leave it as a last-ditch solution."

How much research is behind this plan? Because this is a huge gamble and if it goes bad then the consequences could be enormous.

You find yourself teetering on a knife's edge as you go over the risks again and again in your mind. This is far beyond anything you've ever done before. But to get so close and lose Dufrense.....

"This job. How well have you planned it." You turn and look at Novena coldly.

"Felicia... you don't have to do this. I planned everything to a T. I know all the doors, all the exits. But I'm not going to expose you to this sort of risk. It was selfish of me. I was just worried because Dufrense's been getting more erratic about these meetings. I think he's scared of something"

You aren't sure if she's trying to play you. Or if she just wants to believe this will be as easy as she hoped.

"If we get caught, it'll be bad. Caleb and the others...."

"Won't get involved. And we wouldn't say anything about them. Right?" She matches your gaze resolutely.

She seems ready, as ready as she'll ever be. "Yea. Let's do it."

You wait for her trademark grin, but this time it doesn't come. She simply reaches over and gives you a hug, before putting the car in gear.

Well, hope this doesn't go way the fuck wrong...
At least we can make up for kinda doing a bit more damage than planned last thread.
>>

You go and grab some coffee, change out of your dress, and go over the plan. True to her word, Novena has put a lot of thought into this. It's slightly unnerving to think she's been working this over in her head, alone, for this long. But at least she has been working it over.

You make your way to the address in question, taking care to park a block away. You follow Novena to a back end of the wall, where some trees obscure the wall. You take a running jump and quickly lift yourself clear of the wall, reaching back to grab the shorter Novena and bring her with you. The two of you make your way across the lawn and towards the main house. You can see lights on in the lower level, with silhouettes moving within.

"Alright," Novena says, already out of breath. "I think we both know you're better suited to this than I am so I'll wait out here. Just take the camera and get a few pictures through the window."

You grab the camera and make your way to the window but can't quite make out what's happening inside. You can hear a woman's giggling inside. You'll need to get in somehow if you want the proof. There's an open window on the third level but it's a steep climb, with little except the baroque stonework of the outer wall to find purchase on. Alternatively there's a set of doors on this level that might be open. However they're in the courtyard, flooded with light.

Worth mentioning that you still have two FP to blow on rerolls if/when you want.
>>
>>28721863
I'm guessing we can just switch the Flexibility roll to the second one then?

Either way, I'd say it's worth spending to try again for Flexibility. We wouldn't have to reroll both, right?
>>
>>28721906
Anyone? I don't want to waste a fate-point on my own...
>>
>>28721799
>>28721799
You opt for the window. You stare up the side of the wall and reassure yourself. Just like the climbing wall at the university. Put one foot in front of the other, carefully testing each new step as you make your way up the side of the house. You thank your luck that moon is particularly thin tonight, and wreathed in clouds. Nobody will see you climbing up the darkened wall.

You've cleared two stories and just need to make the third. You give a short jump and grab hold of the window sill.... only to have your hand slip from the dusty surface. You are suddenly hanging by one arm. Scrambling to get another hold.

>(FORCE + FLEXIBILITY)

>>28721906

Ok. Unless there's any objections. You can reroll both with TENACITY and opt to use PRECISION on the new roll if you want. They cost one each, you have two.

>>
>>28722168
How do we get new FP? Spending both on one roll would be galling...
>>
>>28722174
Well there's one. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not sure quite where we stand dicewise at the moment.
>>
>>28722207
Yeah, someone do the other!
>>
>>28722201
You get new FP basically every time you complete something. You can only bank 3 at a time, currently you have two.

>>28722207
You need to choose which skills you want, and then roll for them.

TENACITY would generate two rerolls for the check, PRECISION would generate a third in addition.
>>
>>28722256
Wait, what would adding PRECISION do exactly?
>>
>>28722307
The degree to which you succeed with it is subtracted from the target. It's a bonus dice.
>>
>>28722350
Ah, that would be nice.
However, that only works for the FORCE dice? So still a decent chance of failing?
>>
>>28722394
Yes, but as it is you're guaranteed to fail. At the risk of getting meta, don't worry too much about FP. You will receive more.

Your grip slips from the stone, just a second after you manage to swing your other hand up. to get a grip. Clinging to the wall you dangle for a moment, heart pounding in your chest, before you slowly manage to claw and kick your way up to the ledge. You finally manage to get yourself into the window before slumping onto the floor quivering. You do your best to control your breathing, but it's difficult to quiet your ragged gasps.

After some time you collect yourself and slowly creep into the hallway. You can hear Dufrense and the unidentified female downstairs. Padding softly down the stairs you prepare the camera. You could try to get a shot from the edge of the hallway, or you could move up to the adjacent room and get a close up shot.....

You halt just as the edge of the hallway. No sense in pushing our luck any further, not tonight. Besides Novena just needs pictures, not artwork.

Peering around the darkened edge of the hallway you can see the figures at last. Dufrense stands facing away from you, naked as the day he was born. The image is quite nearly enough to turn you off men entirely. The woman is lying on the bed. As she stands and embraces Dufrense you see your chance. You line up the camera to capture the illicit moment. The woman is quite beautiful. She has flawless skin, enticing curves, and platinum white fair peaked by two.... triangular.... ears? Holy crap.

The club, the taxis, the guest house. It all makes sense now. Not even Washington elites go to such lengths to hide their whoring, unless it's the kind that goes against their politics.

You stay in position, snapping a few more particularly lurid shots for good measure, before quickly slipping back behind the wall. You retreat through the courtyard door. And start making your way back across the moonlit lawn. All you need to do is make it across property to where Novena is waiting before-

You turn to see a very sleek, angry, brown and black dog closing on you from across the lawn. It barks menacingly and bears it's teeth.

You sprint across the open green, dog rapidly gaining on you. Foolproof plan huh? You swear to god that if you survive this you will never listen to one of Novena's half assed plans again. You can see the wall now, and Novena next to it urging you on. If you can just get to the shed propped against the wall you'll be up and out of here!

....Is what you're thinking as something latches onto your arm. The dog sails through the air, biting hard and jerking you down to the ground. It wrestles at the leather jacket, shaking you violently. You struggle to get away, tearing your way clear of the jacket and clambering up onto the shed where Novena grabs your hand. The dog makes a last ditch effort to grab your leg, but you manage to kick free and clear the top.

You run like hell, you and Novena both, through the sleeping neighborhood. You tumble into the car, and drive off as quickly as you can without attracting undue attention.

"Holy shit are you ok? I was afraid I was gonna have to jump down and fight that thing. I fuckin' hate dogs. Hey, Felicia! You here? Say something."

You start to laugh. A bit at first, but then hysterically. "The camera.... it was in my jacket."

"WHAT?!? Are you saying we left it there? We got nothing on Dufrense's whore?"

"Never mind that," you say as your laughter dies out. You turn and smile evilly at her. "I think I have a job for you."
That's it for tonight.
>>
>>28724410
Uh, I'm noticing a hole in this logic. That being, Dufrense will find the jacket and camera, and know people want to catch him in the act, and. You know. Not get any more whores.

Thanks for playing. Roll system is still a major pain in the ass. There were some that were meant to be that way (Dufrense giving you an overwhelming chance of rejection to prove a point, with a very small chance of LEWD) but most of them simply weren't meant to be as hard as they were. I'm thinking of switching to best of three rolls to fix that and other problems.

>>28724484
Something to think about.
>>
>>28724775
Ah, alright. Kind of stings that basically despite wasting all our FP and technically succeeding the last roll, it looks like we get absolutely zero out of it with that camera lying back there as evidence people are after him, though.
