Dave's not here, man

You find yourself in a strange world of vibrant color and exquisite sound. All around you are wild flowers and trees so vibrant they almost hurt to behold. The sky is a swirling mixture of blues and greens, turning around each other as if someone were stirring them with a great spoon. The air tastes powerfully sweet, and the ground is soft as you walk. You wander through a field of flowers and grass as butterflies dance around you, and only stop when you come to an odd house in the middle of your path. It is at least thirty stories high, but at the same time only twice as tall as you. The door seems a bit narrow, but you think you could squeeze in if you try, and you do try, because let's face it, you like a challenge. Inside the tiny tower you find a small study, with a roaring fire of green flame and books strewn about, and in a tiny chair is a tiny woman in tiny robes, looking into a tiny crystal ball.

A) Ask her where you are
B) Ask her where she is
C) Eat cake

You approach her and kneel down. She doesn't seem to acknowledge you, but she must be aware that you're present. You ask where you are.

"Why you are right there, in front of my table, little one. Unless of course you are asking where in particular this place is, in which case I'm afraid the answer is no where in particular. Unless of course you were asking for the name of the place you are generally located in, in which case the answer is the fairywood."

You ask the tiny woman why you are here, and how you came. She responds sadly, "Child, everything is here because it is meant to be here at the time that it is. As for how you came to this place, I didn't see you come in so how would I know something like that?" You ask her who she is, and what her purpose here is. "I live in this tower, searching this orb to discover the secrets of the fairywood. So far, I've been staring at it for a few hundred years, but no such luck. I do not give up hope though!"

You scratch your head. It seems that this place isn't very straightforward. When you ask her how you can leave, she recommends going back the way you came, which obviously helps you very little.

"If you will be staying here for very long, would you like to help me with something?"

A) Agree, you might as well
B) Decline, you need to find your way back

You agree to help the tiny woman. She smiles and claps, thanking you in an excited voice. She tells you to climb to the top of this tower and fetch her a black box that rests there. She warns you that the climb will be arduous, and may take weeks if not months to complete, and that there will be great enemies to battle along the way, as well as deadly traps.

"Then again, you are quite large. Perhaps it won't take as long."

You get up and head outside to begin the ascent, there being no staircase or ladders inside this room. Outside the same sickeningly colorful flowers and butterflies are still present, but seem somehow even more irritating after coming out of the dark. You turn to face the massive tower, and grab hold of any hold available to begin climbing. It is a slow process, and extremely dull, but after a short 80 years you arrive at the second floor window. Looking back down, you're a staggering 4 feet off of the ground. You try not to stare too long, for fear of vertigo setting in.

The room you enter is lit via the window, and has in it nothing but a simple giant bull. He greets you, and you shake hands. He asks why you've come. You tell him that you are looking for a black box. He laughs and informs you that he is guarding the way forward, and to pass you must answer his riddle.

"Has Anyone Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?"

A) Ask him to give you an easier riddle

You drive your weapon into the bull's still beating heart, and rip it out of his chest, spraying blood all over the room. He gives a final soliloquy, passionately recited, and so beautiful that it brings tears to your eyes even as you consume his heart to gain his power. Using this newfound strength, you hurl him aside and discover a door. You break it open with one swift kick and begin ascending the stairs on the other side. At the top, you come to yet another room, but this one seems to serve as a great bath. There is a grand pool of steaming water that must stretch for a hundred feet across, and floating in the pool are flower petals and slices of sparkling fruit. You begin to wade through the waters, but as you draw closer to the exit on the other side, you are swarmed by nude women. They beg to bare you children, promising to be faithful to you for all eternity.

A) Accept and give up your quest
B) Tell them that you have erectile dysfunction and leave

You thank the women for the offer, but claim that your manhood does not function to full capacity, which leaves them sobbing in the bathwater as you leave. You ascend more stairs and then come to a rock. It's a large rock.probably the third largest rock you've ever seen. It's surface is made of rock, and the top of it is pure rock with rock trimming and rock all around. The rock of the rock is rock, rock, and rock. Finally, after many long hours of toil and hardship, you reach the highest room of the tower. It's glory is almost too much to behold, with boxes and tarp covered objects standing all around, gathering dust. There is a geographically incorrect globe, a dress wrapped in plastic, and even an old, broken typewriter. You realize that this is just an attic, and that the woman downstairs needs to learn to throw things away. You find the black box she asked for in a pile of other boxes, none of which are interesting in the slightest.

A) Have a look inside
B) Bring it to her

Donning the incredible dress of power, you transform into an amazing new form, which is to say that you become you, but in a dusty dress. Filled with boundless self confidence from your well accentuated hips and bust, you leap from the nearby window and land feet first at the front door of the tower. You come back in through the door and walk over to the tiny woman, presenting the box to her. She thanks you with a pat on the knee and a piece of cherry flavored candy. You eat the candy, and it's pretty okay, but you don't like cherry much.

When the tiny woman opens the box, you are able to see the very limits of the universe cramped together within it's cardboard confines, an almost unassailable darkness within an infinite space outside of time. She pulls from the box a pink nightgown and sleeping cap, then closes it back up and kicks it over to the corner of the room. She thanks you for finding her pajamas and retires to her tiny canopy bed, falling asleep quickly.

A) Leave

You spit the tiny candy out, causing it to bounce off of the wall and into a pile of freshly washed undergarments. After staring at the pile for a moment, you get up and exit the tower.

You open your eyes to an orange sky, filled with shifting clouds. You feel slightly better than this morning, and you think you have the strength to get up if you try. As you look around your immediate are, you notice that Leman Russ is no longer with you. In fact, you aren't moving anymore and there doesn't appear to be anyone around but the horses. All the things are still in the cart with you.

You climb out of the cart, throwing the blankets off of you. You feel a sudden chill as you leave the warmth of your temporary bed, and step out into the grass. You begin wandering through the trees, in search of any sign of your friends. Every direction you see looks the same, and there don't even appear to be animals around, except for the birds who call now and then. You walk in a large circle around the wagon, making sure to keep it in sight so that you don't get lost, and eventually hear the flow of a river somewhere in the distance.

A) Go to the river

You elect to stay by the cart and horses, instead of wandering off into the dangerous woods alone. You hop back in and take out a piece of cured meat to chew while you wait. You finish it slowly, but still have not heard nor seen anything in the time it took. You start to get worried, but just as you are about to start searching again, you hear talking and footsteps in the grass. From the darkening woods emerge your companions, dirty and chatting about something or other. When they see you are awake, they smile and welcome you back to the world of the sane. Andre is carrying a pheasant with him, and Diane is holding a large tree leaf serving as a bowl for herbs and berries. Anna climbs into the cart and embraces you while the others set up camp.

"I was so worried, you kept talking in your sleep, and it was scaring us. You talked about some tiny woman, who wanted to bear you child and then you shot her with lightning, it was total nonsense."

You tell her you feel fine now, and climb out of the cart to help with the camp. Andre explains that they stopped when they realized they had wandered off of the trail and it was getting dark, then Leman Russ spotted the pheasant and went bounding after it, forcing the rest of them to give chase. You cook the pheasant together and eat it with the berries, and Diane makes you a tea from the herbs which takes your mind from fuzzy and disjointed to calm again. Andre offers to take first watch that night to afford you some rest.

A) Let him watch first

You take first watch, claiming that you're tired of lying about while everyone else works. Andre doesn't argue, and slips into his bed to sleep. The length of your watch goes by smoothly, but sometime near the end you hear loud coughing from behind you. It originates from Anna, which troubles you a bit. You go to see her and feel her body temperature, but when you do you hear more coughing, this time from Diane. You don't remember coughing last night in your sleep, but it is disconcerting that these two are now.

You decide that, rather then gamble on your memory, you should wake up Diane and have her sort out the problem. You go over to her with all three bottles and shake her awake. In her tired state she grumbles something about cookies and then opens her eyes. Seeing you, she seems taken aback for a moment, then comes to realize that you are carrying the bottles of medicine. You explain that she and Anna were coughing in their sleep, and you wanted them to take some medicine before the symptoms of your illness start kicking in. She thanks you for your concern, and takes one of the bottles, having a swig from it before returning it and laying back down to sleep. You take the same bottle over to Anna, and wake her. She doesn't open her eyes, but opens the bedroll for you to enter, before you prod her nose and tell her to drink the bottle Diane picked out.She bitterly drinks some, gagging a little when it goes down. You tell her to sleep well, then put the bottles back and go to wake Andre for his shift. He crawls out of his bed and over to the fire. You roll your eyes and climb into your own bed, falling asleep soon after.

The next morning you feel absolutely fine, and more energetic than you have in weeks. You go over to wake the others, who all emerge from their beds fresh faced and ready to go. Except Andre. His face is red and his breathing is slow and heavy. Diane asks you if you gave him a dose of the stuff you all took, and you reply by explaining that Andre didn't show any signs. She rubs her temples in distress. It takes both you and Anna to haul Andre into the cart, and put him in the same position you were in the day before. Diane gives him the medicine and you try to sort out which direction to go. You aren't sure which way leads back to the path set for you, but you know which cardinal direction you face and so you can only really go one of two ways.

A) East
B) West
>>
>>28800399

>>
>>28800500
What and turn back to follow it after mid-day?
>>
>>28800537

Yeah, that's why following all day would be bad. Though we would have a nice break at noon for lunch. Or we'd have to learn how to fly...
>>

Where the fuck does flying come into anything?
>>
>>28800578

>>
>>28800601
You're still suggesting then that we head one way for half a day, take an hour's break, then head back the way we came. Why not cut the bullshit and head to the sun's ultimate direction?
>>
>>28800627

Actually, I'm not. You misread, I've been agreeing that that is a terrible idea. I specifically said it was. My vote was heading towards the rising sun, which I took to be in the East as that's how it is in reality. You said it was the West and assumed I meant to follow all day when I said no.

Seriously, reread what I said, I'm really not sure how you misunderstood me this badly unless you're just attempting to be a ruseman.
>>
>>28800424
You turn east. Andre moans nonstop in the cart, babbling about random events and people who you're sure don't exist. At one point he calls out to Diane to tell her that he loves her, giving you and Anna a chance to laugh and Diane a chance to turn red as a rose from embarrassment. Eventually you do find a trodden path that continues south, but there's still no way to tell that it's the one you started off on. You continue anyway, without any way of determining its validity. As you ride, Andre begins to sing a song that, while feverishly nonsensical, is somewhat catchy and the rest of you join in once you've got the hang of it.

A few hours later, around noon, you ride by a large covered wagon tied to a team of oxen. A man and a young boy stand outside, cooking over a fire. They see you ride by, but don't say anything directly to you.

You keep your pace, but greet them from afar as you pass by. The boy waves at you, but the older man just seems to focus on his work. Diane keeps fixated o them for a while, but eventually puts her eyes back on the road ahead. All that day Andre spouts gibberish, but he seems back to normal after dinner, and you all rest easy as always.

Some days later, you crest a hill and spy something terrible, as an orc warcamp comes into view. There are large wooden walls and three towers manned by orcs with crossbows. Andre prickles up at the site of it, but you estimate somewhere in the area of 40 orcs could be living inside it. It's too bright out to sneak by unnoticed now, but as you watch them mover around you notice they are behaving oddly.

You tell the others that you'll wait here, behind the hill for nightfall, and then try to get around the camp under cover of dark. They agree and begin setting up a temporary campsite while you observe the warcamp. Hours go by, you eat a small meal, and eventually the sun falls behind the mountains. You and the others gather up your things and mount your horses, riding down the hill slowly and without light to see by, for fear of the orcs spotting it. You make your way around the camp, keeping a large berth from it the entire time. As you pass by you are shocked to see a wagon approaching the camp as if it weren't even there. More shocking still, the gates of the camp open and allow it inside.

You decide to go with Andre to try and gather information on the camp before moving on. You tell Anna and Diane to stay with Leman Russ and not to come out unless the orcs appear to be hostile. You and Andre begin crouch-running up to the walls of the camp, trying your best o avoid the gaze of the orcs in the towers above. You come to the log walls that surround it, and inside you can hear talking and shouting. You have time to think before your next action, so you need to choose the best course of action from here.

A) Try and scale the walls and take out a guard, then use the height for a better view

You settle in and listen to the talking inside, trying to get an idea of what's happening. Most of the words are hard to make out, with people talking and shouting over one another, but together you and Andre piece together that they apparently are holding human children inside the camp. Listening further, you can even make out crying. Andre hesitates but still recommends action, even if you are outnumbered.

Anna agrees, and Leman Russ is energetic as always, but Diane doesn't feel confident in her ability to enter undetected, let alone fight in such a cramped place.

You think on your options, and decide to let Diane remain behind with Leman Russ, in reserve if things go poorly. She agrees and the rest of you head back to the warcamp. You make it back to the wall unseen, and run around the perimeter searching for a gap in the wall large enough to squeeze yourselves through. It's easy to find something big enough for Anna, but you and Andre are having a much more difficult time. After a few minutes, Anna suggests allowing her to go in alone, while you and Andre keep looking for a way. She promises to stay low until you come to find her, but while she's inside she may find out something useful.

You decide that it is too dangerous to split the group up at this point, the cost outweighing the potential benefits. You continue along the wall, searching for a way in, and finally find a gap that will accommodate all three of you. You take a look inside to see if the coast is clear, and see that there is an orc standing watch nearby, but he doesn't appear to be looking in your direction at the moment. you might have a chance to get all three of you in without being noticed, but it is risky.

You tell Anna and Andre to wait outside while you deal with the orc. You slip in quickly and duck behind a hut close by. He doesn't notice you yet. You step lightly, approaching him from the side while his attention is on something occurring elsewhere in the camp. You manage to get behind him and then bash him over the head with one swift elbow. This isn't enough to put him under however, and you are forced to wrap your arms around his neck in an effort to cut off his air. He stands up and tries to throw you off, but you plant your feet in his hips and squeeze tighter. He even attempts to shout for help, but with nor airflow, his cries only come out as raspy whispers. He continues to struggle against you, but gives up in time, and blacks out, falling to the ground on top of you. Andre and Anna slip in now, lifting the orc from on top of you and helping you drag him behind a hut where he can't be seen. Now you are inside the warcamp.

The three of you begin ducking behind and between all available cover on the floor of the camp, from huts to tall grass to crates and boxes of miscellaneous objects, trying to find out exactly what's happening here. You come across a group of 5 armed orcs, standing around a human man and woman holding a baby is swaddling clothes. They shout something to each other in their language, and then one of them pushes the two of them into a nearby structure. Three of the orcs remain outside while two go in with the couple and child. Anna gasps, and Andre grits his teeth upon seeing this occur.

You head back the way you came and maneuver around the back of the building where the humans were sent. There is small window a few feet above your head, and you have Andre give you a boost up so that you can peer in. Inside you see, there are a half dozen orcs, all armed or at least armored, standing around three human women holding babies. There are also two human men and a boy. One of the orcs snatches the baby from a woman, causing it to cry out. He sniffs it and prods it with his large fingers, and the woman he took it from begins reaching for it, demanding it back. Andre begins to tire beneath you, so you hop down from his back and tell them the course of action:

A) Parley with the orcs
B) Threaten the orcs
C) Try to sabotage the camp
>>

>C) Try to sabotage the camp

These dudes are not going to haggle with three humans who snuck into their camp.
>>

>C) Cause trouble elsewhere to distract the orcs, maybe Diane can help with that (a spell can do it very easily), then go in and rescue/talk to the humans.
>>
>>28803771
>>28803799
You formulate a plan to distract the orcs while you help the humans. Andre breaks off of the group to serve as the main focus, being the most adept at loud and attention grabbing noises. Anna heads to the front of the camp for her role as well, and you stay behind to watch the room with the humans.

Things begin suddenly when Andre starts spooking the chickens and horses i the camp, causing them to make one mighty commotion that brings some of the orcs over to examine it. That done, he proceeds to cut the horses free so that they can run about the camp. More orcs attend to this, and while they are thoroughly occupied Anna runs to the bonfire at the front of the camp, takes a burning branch from it and lobs it onto the roof of one of the huts. All but three orcs are now hastily trying to get things settled down, but unfortunately for you the three that aren't distracted are in the room with the humans. You don't like your chances, but you have no other choice, so you run up the wall and shimmy into the window from earlier, landing with a loud thud on the wooden floor. The humans look up at you in awe as you draw your sword and Holy Symbol. The three orcs turn and take notice of you, then brandish their weapons and begin their attack. The first comes at you with a large axe, but his swing is slow and you manage to weave around it and cut his forearm, forcing him to drop his weapon and stumble back in pain. The second and third come at you unified, with spears. One grazes your leg as you try to sidestep, and the other takes you on the chest, but does not pierce your mail. The get up close to one orc, and while jumping hit him in the head with the pommel of your sword. The other tries to grab you, but is stabbed in the thigh as Anna enters the fray. The rest of the fight is short work beating and disarming the orcs. You then approach the humans

You tell the humans to gather themselves so that you can make a break for the gates of the camp. Most of them seem worried, but follow you regardless as you exit the building and run toward the gate. The women drag behind a bit, but you fall back to cover the rear, and eventually you meet with Andre, who helps you and Anna push open the gate. Nearly home free, you run from the now smouldering camp. Looking back you see that the fires have mostly been extinguished, but nobody appears to be chasing you, at least not yet. You make it back to Diane, who is surprised to see who you have brought along. The orcs will undoubtedly realize you're gone soon, and most likely form a search party to hunt you down.

A) Load the women into the cart and try to get as far from the camp as you can

You tell the women to climb into the cart, and the man to share a horse with the boy. It takes some time to get everything organized, but eventually you settle them down enough to be on your way. Anna shares a saddle with Diane, in order to make an extra horse available. As the orcs begin rallying in the camp, you head out in the opposite direction, riding nonstop until sunrise. Finally your group can't push on any more, and you are forced to make camp beneath a rock face that should afford you some concealment. As you set up, you notice that the women have fallen asleep nursing the babies, still wrapped up in the blankets. so that only the faces of the women can be seen. The man and boy step down from the horse and stand near the cart, watching as you and your group lay out the bedrolls and fire. After everything is done, you let Anna and Diane sleep while you and Andre keep an eye and an ear out for the orcs, in case they thought to follow you this far. Andre stokes the fire as you approach the women, who by now have woken up and watch you like the others.

You try to calm them down, assuring them that nothing bad will happen before you set in with questions. However as you try to persuade them, one of the women speaks up.

"If you don't want to hurt us, why did you kidnap us?"

You look to Andre, who shrugs, just as befuddled as you are by this question. You ask for her meaning, and she explains that the orcs were only taking them in as refugees. She then pulls her baby from her breast and unwraps it, showing it to you. It seems normal at first, but when it opens its mouth to yawn, you see the beginning of large canine teeth in it's mouth. You still don't quite comprehend, however. The women inform you that these children were born of the same father, who himself was half-orc, born of an orc mother. You learn that he took them in to keep them safe from townsfolk who want to see them killed as abominations. You suddenly begin to regret your actions, but Andre reminds you that there is no time for regret, only redemption.

You apologize to the women for your actions, and for frightening them. You tell Andre to watch the camp while you guide them back to the orcs again. He asks to go along, but you don't want to leave Anna and Diane alone and tired in the wild. You mount your horse and tell the man and boy to mount as well, and you set out back in the direction you came. Things are quiet on the trip. Nobody seems much in the mood for talking. At one point you try to converse with the older man, but he only looks stoically forward and ignores your niceties. After two hours, you stop to allow the women to nurse the babies, and give the horses water. The boy volunteers to help you, which gains silent anger from the man. Just then, however, as you wait for the women to finish, you feel a sharp jab in your side. You look down to see a bolt has taken you, fired from the cover of the woods. You look around to find the attacker, but before you spot anything another ctches you in the left arm. The women scream and the man ducks down, wrapping his arms around the boy to shield him.

You think it better to be prepared for the worst, and draw your sword as you wait for the enemy to show itself. You take two more bolts, both in your leg, and fall to one knee. You try to take the shield from your back, but as you do, an extraordinarily large man with green skin comes out of the woods and walks toward you. He is wielding a greatsword and does not look at all happy to see you. You assume him the father of the children, and ask him for forgiveness, explaining the misunderstanding. He stops before getting to you and looks over to the women in the cart. They exchange looks, and he goes back to you. He seems to think about something for a moment, but then brings down the pommel of his sword, and you lose your senses.

When you again become aware, you have a powerful headache. You find yourself casually thrown into a wooden cage, back in the orc camp. It is night now, and the camp is quiet except for those on guard. You have all your clothes, but your weapons and money have been removed from your person. You crawl over to the orc guarding you and try to speak to him. You explain that everything has just been a misunderstanding, and a mistake on your part. You say that you realized what had happened and tried to bring the women and children back unharmed as soon as you did. He turns around to look at you, "Doesn't matter why you did or, or even if you're sorry. You tricked the chief, and took his women and children. Tradition is tradition, and now you're gonna fight." You ask him what he means by fight, and he explains that there will be a dual at noon tomorrow, to decide your fate. If you win, you can take any prize you want from the camp. If the chief wins, he owns your life. When you ask why the chief would challenge you, he only says that it is tradition for those who challenge the chief to undergo these rites. He suggests that you sleep to conserve your energy.

The rest is uneasy, and you wake several times, but you keep forcing yourself to fall asleep again.

At some point in the night, you are awoken by something jabbing you in your side. You look over to see Andre standing outside the cage, poking you with a long stick. You check the guard, and see that he's fast asleep and snoring.

You try to talk Andre out of his mindset, but he's completely convinced of this. He puts away his saber and begins heading back out of the camp.

After a terrible night's sleep, you awake in your cage again. It is morning now, and you offer a prayer to the Father of Light to help you in the upcoming battle. The orcs feed you a bowl of odd mush with a dry biscuit. It isn't the worst thing you've ever eaten, but it is pretty awful. About the time noon rolls around, some of the orcs lift your cage and carry it over to the center of camp. There you see a circle of small stones meant to be your arena. It is only about 25 feet across, but it'll have to do. As you're inspecting the circle, you hear the camp gates open and look up to see your friends entering, just as if it were any ordinary day. Andre shakes hands with one of the orcs and speaks to him while Anna and Leman Russ come up to you. Anna wishes you luck in the contest, and gives you a kiss for luck. Even Russ extends his paw in favor of you. Then they are all directed to an area outside the circle to watch, as an orc unlocks your cage and tells you to step out.

While you stretch to warm yourself up, the orcs begin cheering for someone, and you realize that the large half-orc who knocked you out is entering the circle. He tosses off his hide coat, revealing a body that rivals even Scipio's. He invites you to enter the circle and you do.

"Before we begin this contest, we must get formalities out of the way. As the challenger, you have the right to choose the weapons we use. We have any kind you like."

Up close, you see that Andre is only up to the orcs chest. He'll have to use his speed as his advantage. Andre bows back, and the both of them step backward for the duel to begin. The chief raises his hand to the sky, and all goes dead silent. He holds it there for a moment building tension in the crowd, then brings it down and the battle begins. The one-eyed orc, Darogo, lunges at Andre. Andre rolls sideways and begins taking a stance, but is quickly knocked across the ring by Darogo's great foot. His reflexes are amazing for someone so big. Andre gets back up and tries to counter attack, but Darogo has the reach, and backsteps away with ease. He then brings down both swords over Andre's head with a great battle cry. Andre tries to parry, but the force of the orc's strike is too much and sends him downward into the dirt. Diane yelps from the sidelines. Andre tries to get back up, but Darogo grabs him by the collar of his robes and tosses him aside as if he were a bed pillow. Andre hits the floor and rolls, whether of his own volition or from the momentum you can't tell, then rights himself and struggles to get to his feet. Darogo approaches slowly, raising his swords up, gaining cheers from the audience. You look over at Diane and see her crying as Anna holds her. You watch as Andre tries to crawl away from Darogo, but is grabbed again and lifted up above Darogo's head, presented to the sky like some sort of offering. The crowd begins chanting excited cheers, "Break him! Break him! Break him!" as Darogo turns in place to show the crowd his work. Darogo cries a bloody roar of agony, and collapses to the floor.

Diane runs in to embrace Andre, wiping the blood and dirt from his face and opening his robes to see his wounds. Anna too moves over to make sure he is alright, along with Leman Russ. You attempt to go over as well, but you are blocked by the chief, with a sour frown on his face.

You peer around him and see that Diane is healing Andre, which calms you a bit. You offer to have Diane heal Darogo, but the chief shakes his head. "Darogo will heal. Orcs do not die as easily as men. He is honored to have fallen to a superior warrior, and his scars will be a badge of pride. To help him now would be insult to injury. Now choose your prize!"

"Very well. Your man may choose any prize he likes."

You walk over to Andre to tell him the news. He seems much better after Diane has healed him. He ponders the prize, and looks around the camp slowly, rubbing his chin. Then his eyes go wide and he gets to his feet, running over to a tall, half-orc woman in leather. He slaps her rear and claims her as the prize he chooses. The orcs are silent for a moment, then slowly a uproarious laughter builds. Even Darogo, bleeding in the dirt, begins laughing through grunts of pain. Diane is less amused, getting up and stomping off to the camp gate. You tell Andre to come along, but the chief says that since he has chosen his prize, he must enjoy it. The half-orc woman laughs as well, grabbing Andre and drawing him up to her chest. Andre seems to be okay with this. You rub your temples. A headache is beginning to develop.

A) Tell Andre to pick something else and come. You can't wast time.
B) He did nearly die for you...

Andre attempts to convince you with sad eyes, but you tell him to pick something serious or you'll pick for him. He lets go of the woman's hind quarters and throws his head back with a groan. He then shuffles his feet over to a crate and pulls out a flask of ale. The both of you meet up with Anna and Diane at the camp gate and head back to your own campsite.

That night, as you sit by the fire, Andre solemnly chugs his prize, muttering under his breath. Diane isn't happy either, as she won't look at Andre directly, or even speak his name, instead choosing to spend the entire ride back as well as dinner time reading a manual on wild herbs.

A) Try to get them to talk
B) Just sit by the fire. They'll talk when they're ready.

Sensing that the uncomfortable silence will only be prolonged as long as they are embarrassed to talk in front of you, you elect to head to bed. Anna doesn't seem tired, but when you say you want to lay down together after your rough sleep the previous night, she agrees. The two of you climb into your bedroll and assume your usual position. Anna nods off in a few minutes, but you try to stay awake and hear if Andre and Diane talk at all. Sure enough, after a while Diane speaks up, asking him why he would choose a prize like that. Andre gives what he must think is a rational answer, but whether it's the booze or his libido talking, it comes out pretty bad. The rest of the conversation just sounds like hissing and whispering, as they try not to wake you and Anna. Eventually Diane goes to sleep, and you follow after.

After a few days, things are mostly back to normal. Diane and Andre still poke at each other, but it seems to be in good nature. You continue your trek, eventually coming to the foot of the western mountain range, just where the map puts it. It is morning now, and you are ready to begin the ascent over the mountains. However, you do spot a town a few miles from you. The others would like to rest there for a day or two, but you feel like you've spent a lot of this trip getting sidetracked.

As the others try to persuade you, you explain that you've wasted too much time already, and need to makeup for it. They make the excuse that you won't have enough food, but you point out that the map states these mountains are swarming with goats and birds. They try to claim you won't have water, but you point out that it snows at the peaks often, not to mention a large river starts here. Eventually they run out of excuses and begrudgingly follow you up the mountain pass. You make good time that day, and the following few days until you reach the summit.

The air at the peak is cold and crisp with the first chill of winter. Soon snow will start falling, and you won't want to be at the summit when it does. As you ride, Anna takes it upon herself to compose a song about how cold it is, and how mean you are. Andre joins in soon, and even Russ howls along. Diane seems to be the only one not singing, and even she is nodding her head to the melody.

A) Find a town so they'll shut up
B) Just keep pushing a little longer, you're nearly to the desert!

After hours of repetitive, albeit catchy, satire, you cave in and agree to stop at the next town if they'll just be quiet until you get there. Much to the chagrin of the others, the next town doesn't appear for another day and a half. It is a small mountain town, built beneath the summit on uneven ground. As you enter, you see that the higher tiers of the town are homes, and the lower tiers are businesses. Through cheers of baths and wine, you think that if nothing else this will be a good place to stop for advice on tackling the desert. It's only just past noon, and so you have the whole day to wander about the town. You split into two groups; Andre and Diane go to secure hot weather gear, and you and Anna go to find a place to rest for the night.

You enter a small inn built partially on the side of the mountain. The sign above the door says 'Bird's Nest'. Inside there is a plump woman cleaning up the front room, and a young man drinking coffee and reading a book in the corner. The plump woman greets you as you enter, giving each of you a warm but slightly uncomfortable hug. You ask about two rooms for the night, for you and two others.

"Two couples, eh? Well we've never had two couples come here at once but it does sound like a lot of fun! It's 5 gold per night per room, but each room has a great big bed and comes with complimentary breakfast in the morning! Also, you can use the hot spring to your hearts content, and if you buy our deluxe lovers bundle, you can even schedule an hour for you and your special someone to have a bath all to yourselves!" For a moment you and Anna both look at each other for answers, but neither of you comes up with anything, and so you ask the woman directly. "Oh aren't you here for a honeymoon? Most people come here for that. The mountain air and hot springs really brings out the romance in people! Why I bought this place myself after my husband and I stayed here after our wedding, and 14 kids later!"

You decide that a bed, bath and meal are a good deal for 10 gold. You pay the woman and start bringing your things into the rooms while Anna ties the horses and cart outside. The rooms are much more luxurious than you're used to seeing in most places, and it becomes evidently clear that this place is less of an inn and more of a vacation spot. You dump your things out on the floor and sort out clean underclothes for yourself and Anna.

Later, Diane and Andre return with loads of hot weather gear, and Diane even presents you with a new robe, built for the heat, which she had the tailor affix with the mark of the sun, to replace the one ripped off of your robes by the cat weeks ago. You point them to their room and they go off to settle in. As you stand, admiring your new robes, Andre returns and asks why their bedroom only has one large bed to share.

A) "Because I'm mean."
B) "If you don't like it, pay for an extra room yourself."

Andre seems unsatisfied with your response but goes back to the room anyway. You proceed to lay out your clothes as Anna plays with Leman Russ on the floor, and Andre comes back just a few minutes later holding a bottle. He tells you that Anna won't let him drink if they're going to have to share a bed, so he doesn't want the free wine around to tempt him. You spy another bottle on the nightstand next to the bed. He tosses the bottle to you and you catch it without thinking, as he disappears back behind the corner. Anna asks if the two of you are going to drink them. You remember the night of the party nearly half a year ago, when she had her first drink, and decide it better to just put these away for the next people who rent the room. Once things get settled, you lay on the bed and tell Anna to get her bath in before you do since you have it for two hours. She starts toward the door, but then turns back and asks if you wouldn't rather share it. She doesn't make direct eye contact with you, apparently finding it less awkward to play with her fingertips.

A) "I really don't think you could handle that sort of thing."

As much as you'd like to say you resisted temptation that day, and as much as you'd like to say you were not a slave to your instincts, you agreed to go with her. After all, you paid for 2 hours, no point wasting them, right?

The two of you walk to the bath, careful to avoid being spotted by Andre and Diane. There you undressed and hopped in. letting the hot water soothe your sore muscles. Indeed, something about the cold air and hot water did make you feel a bit more romantic, just as the plump woman in the front room told you. Anna never looked so appetizing as she did while you were in the spring, and as you soaked and washed in the water, she continually took glances at you like never before. After about 15 minutes of the bath, you found yourselves adequately clean and proceeded to simply talk as the sun set below the horizon. At first it was just talk about the trip, and how far you'd come, and how much was left. Then it came to be how dangerous it would be when you arrived. Then, it became about how much you didn't want to lose each other in all the chaos that would ensue. Finally, after a long pause in the conversation, Anna brought up the topic of the orc camp, and how those women looked to content when they were holding and nursing the little babes.

A) "I feel sorry for those children. They have to grow up in a world of violence, and hate."
B) "I've never much liked children to be honest. I'd just as soon be the last of my line."
C) "Someday I'd like to have a son. Someone to teach, and to play with."

You say that you would enjoy having a child someday, to pass on your knowledge and wisdom to, and have fun teaching. Anna smiles at this, leaning into you more. You stay in the bath for nearly an hour total, until you start to get light headed and head back inside. That night ends just as the night you left the Holy Palace, with the two of you together in the dark, beneath the covers, drinking each other in and becoming mixed in the daze of sleep and love.

The next morning you dress and head downstairs for breakfast, where Diane and Andre are already waiting. Andre looks at you over a mug of coffee and asks how you slept.

After breakfast and packing up, you all mount up and get back on the road. The plump woman sees you off, waving as you ride into the distance. On the way down, you talk to Diane about what they learned about the desert while they were out yesterday. She tells you that most of the desert is uninhabited, but bands of people often travel from oasis to oasis, living as nomads year round. It isn't as hot as usual this time of year, but nights can get very cold. She also tells you that the city you're looking for lies deep withing the desert, almost at it's center, and is a known haven for thieves and criminals, who more or less run the place by now. All this is disconcerting, but you must press on nonetheless.

It takes nearly two days to reach the base of the mountain, which turns from chilly crag to sweltering right quick. You stop at the base for the night once you get there, to let the horses rest before this long and testing stretch of the journey. While eating, an old man wanders by, asking to share your meal in exchange for a few copper pieces.

You tell the old man he is welcome to a plate free of charge. He's so pleased at this that he jumps a full 4 inches off the ground. He sits down with you and immediately lightens the mood with various anecdotes about his travels, many of which are likely false but still entertaining to hear. After you finish up and the sun has gone down, he starts to tell you a story about an old witch he ran into on the mountain in his younger days. He tells about how she lured people into her home and got them drunk on wine before taking their life force as they made love. He himself tricked the witch into dropping her wand, which of course turned her into a beautiful woman who he then wooed.

Once he's out of tales to tell, he stands and dusts himself off, asking where the lot of you are headed.

A) "Just to a town in the desert."
B) "We're on a mission from the church of the Father. We're going to investigate some things out here."
C) "We're going to save the world from a dark god."
